Two Persons Saved from Yacht Fire in Clearwater Harbor Florida

Two persons were saved as a fifteen meter motor yacht went ablaze West of Coachman Park and north of the Memorial Causeway bridge, in Clearwater Harbor, Florida at 03:00 morning time of Saturday 24 August.  The couple were first helped by a good Samaritan boater, with Clearwater Fire and Rescue, Clearwater Police and the US Coast Guard coming later to control the flames.  The yacht was eventually wrecked by the blaze and sank.  The couple were just departing for a ten day cruise to Sarasota when they decided to anchor and sleep.  The two boaters were not injured though they were given a medical check when transported to Clearwater Harbor Marina, with the cause of the fire not known.  A plan is being made to float and remove the yacht wreckage on Thursday 29 August.
The yacht in this fire is an Ocean Alexander 540 Pilothouse as produced from the late nineties to 2002.  The 540 Pilothouse was a replacement and evolution of the 520 Pilothouse and was replaced by the 548 Pilothouse.
