Broom Boats Forging Ahead
Broom Boats is forging ahead due largely to their significant ongoing boat development programme and their re-entry into the charter fleet boat build market. Broom’s aggressive development plans have continued in 2012 with the launch of the New Broom 35 Coupe at their Open Weekend two weeks ago. The new boat received a fantastic reception from existing and new customers and five of the Broom 35 Coupes have been sold for delivery later this year to customers in the UK and Holland. Many visitors at the Broom Open Weekend participated in a factory tour and got a glimpse of the New Broom 30 Coupe and the New Broom 395 in build. The Broom 30 Coupe will be launched later this year and the first order for the 30 Coupe has just been taken. The New Broom 395 will be launched at the Ijmuiden Boat Show in Holland in September and again the first order for this boat has been taken for delivery in late summer. Plans are underway for a New Broom 425 in late 2012 and Broom dealers are already well advanced with prospective orders for this boat. This busy development year for Broom follows the development and successful launch of the Broom 455 and Broom 370 in 2011. Broom has built 8 of the new award winning Broom 370s since its launch last Autumn.  Equally significant is Broom’s formal re-entry into the European Inland Waterway Charter Fleet Boat Build market. Broom’s heritage in this market is incredible and Broom dominated the market in the 1970s, 80s and 90s. Broom has returned to this market with gusto, launching a five-boat charter fleet range, spanning from 30ft to 48ft and which includes the Broom Cadet, Broom Captain, Broom Commander, Broom Classique & Broom Grande Classique. Broom has already delivered boats to Ireland and is currently building boats destined for the Thames, France and Germany. It looks like it won’t be too long before Broom is back in command of this market.

Heesen Yachts Awarded Two Neptune Trophies
Heesen Yachts is proud to announce that the 50m Satori and the 37m Aurelia have been awarded Neptune Trophies at the prestigious World Superyacht Awards which took place in Istanbul, Turkey on Saturday May 5, 2012.  Aurelia, 37m semi-displacement, prevailed over five other finalists in the very competitive "Raised pilothouse - semi-displacement or planning motor yacht" category. Aurelia sports a very different exterior look with her bright orange and blue color scheme that recalls Gulf Oil racing cars. Her precious and rich interior by Bannenberg and Rowell is inspired by the automotive theme. The judges commented: "An unusual, but very worthy winner".  Satori, 50m semi-displacement, won in the "Three-deck - semi-displacement or planning motor yacht" category, competing against six other superyachts.  Satori has been the most awarded yacht in the Heesen fleet. Last September in Cannes, she was awarded two Yacht Trophies and the prestigious Prix du Design by Prince Albert of Monaco. Frank Laupman drew her streamlined exterior and Rémi Tessier her sophisticated interior décor while naval architects from Heesen Yachts in collaboration with those of Van Oossanen have created her high-performing hull. Powered by a pair of 2,720kW diesels, Satori can reach the remarkable speed of 24 knots, which places her amongst the fastest 50-metres afloat, while her fuel consumption at 12 knots is such that she attains a respectable 3,200 nm range.  These important recognitions for two Heesen semi-displacement yachts confirm that this Dutch shipyard is the undisputed world leader in design, engineering and construction of all aluminium luxury vessels.

Itama and Mochi Open Days
Itama and Mochi Craft Open Days were held last Saturday and Sunday in Santa Margherita Ligure - a magnificent setting for this spellbinding event organised by the Ferretti Group to introduce their customers and enthusiasts alike to the Group’s leading models. During the weekend all guests had the opportunity to step onboard Itama’s open yachts and Mochi Craft’s lobster boats against the wonderful backdrop of the Ligurian Riviera. Numerous sea trials were performed on Itama’s and Mochi Craft’s fleets, to the delight of the many sea lovers that gathered in Santa Margherita.  More specifically, Itama presented the boatyard’s two most recent crafts, 45 and 62 - which were officially launched at Cannes and Genoa 2011 Boat Shows - as well as the fleet’s flagship, the Itama 75.  The Open Days would not have been the same without the Itama 75’, the fleet’s flagship, which combines extraordinary habitability, the use of innovative materials and technologies, and a slender profile that perfectly reflects this yacht’s sporty character.  Mochi Craft added its unmistakable, colourful touch to the Ligurian landscape with two different models representing the Dolphin line: Dolphin 44, the smallest yacht in the range, and the flagship, Dolphin 74 Cruiser.  The event could also rely on important partnerships: Lancome presented some make-up and face treatment products; Cantine Ferrari's tasting sessions allowed all guests to savour its Perlè; and Philips Saeco introduced its Xelsis and Intelia One Touch Cappuccino Metal coffee machines.

Kadey-Krogen Introduces I-Pad Application
What's the next best thing to making passage aboard a Kadey-Krogen trawler yacht? Now you can get a visual taste of the Kadey-Krogen lifestyle by scrolling through the travelogues, scenic photographs and glimpses of the adventures of Krogen owners to be found in the new, free iPad application available through the company's website or via the Apple Store. Here's a fun-to-use (and useful) lifestyle app that is At Home on Any Sea.  The app is viewed through a combination of topical sections found along the bottom of the tablet page and vertical "chapters" seen along the side. Tapping a chapter photo and then swiping pages in each chapter reveals a new vista, captures a moment, or explains a precept of design and engineering. Included also is the storybook tale of the company's founding and photographs of many world class, breakthrough yacht designs Kadey-Krogen has created in its 35-year history. There are excerpts from the company's magazine, Waypoints, and chapters detailing engineering philosophy that have captions in windows that expand and close at the tap of a finger. There are also technical explanations about the building process, specifications for and photographs of the current boat models, and links to more data at the company website.  The iPad app can be downloaded directly to your iPad from Kadey Krogen, or at the Apple Store searching Kadey-Krogen Yachts. It can also be downloaded to any computer with iTunes installed that you will later use to synch your iTunes downloads to your iPad for actual use. Depending on your local bandwidth, the application takes from two to five minutes to download.

Marlow Spring Rendez Vous
The 17th Annual Marlow Marine Sales Spring Rendezvous will certainly be remembered by our Cruising Club members as one of the best ever! Close to 100 members, friends and guests attended the spectacular fun event in Key West, FL on April 12th thru 15th. The tradition of welcoming the boat owners with a complimentary boat wash kicked off a fabulous four day event.  As members gathered at the dockside registration center to receive their special goodie bags and to discuss all the events planned over the next four days, it was evident that everyone was glad we had chosen Key West once again. The gorgeous weather, along with a beautiful sunset, added to the ambience of the welcome cocktail party held outdoors on the Sunset Terrace at the Pier House Resort. Guests were served libations and delicacies while listening to the steel drummer play a variety of island music. This was the beginning of new friendships and the reacquainting with old friends.  Our members always enjoy the educational aspects of the seminars we offer, and this year’s attendance continued to prove just that. Our speakers were very well versed and members gained product knowledge on a variety of topics. Round table discussions topped off the two days of seminars and, once again, the consensus was that these discussions lead by David Marlow are never long enough.  Our Friday afternoon activity was a trolley tour of Key West. There wasn’t a seat left on our private trolley and by all comments, it was a very relaxing time and no matter how many times you’ve been to Key West, there is always a bit of history, previously unknown, that is discovered.  Our traditional theme party this year was Foolish Fantasy. The members came dressed as their fantasy or in foolish attire. Their creativity was later honored at our awards dinner. After a scrumptious dinner, the crowd was wowed and mesmerized by world renowned magician and mentalist, Joshua Lozoff. So many wondered—how did he do that! The live band entertained and dancing continued once the floor show concluded.  After the Saturday morning seminars, guests gathered at the Sunset Tiki Bar for lunch and the Crazy Hat competition. Our members went all out to flaunt their hat creativity and winners were rewarded at our awards dinner. After lunch, we were off to walk the Galleon docks to visit boats and witness the christening of one of our newest member’s boat.  The Saturday evening awards dinner was held on the upper deck of the Westin Resort overlooking the vast waterway. Soft music radiated over the night air throughout the cocktail hour and dinner.  Salsa dancers performed and then taught the group some lively moves.  The rendezvous ended with a Sunday farewell breakfast as members left at their leisure for further cruising or for a return to their home port. For 17 years, the Marlow Marine Cruising Club has held its annual rendezvous. Members include Marlow Explorer, Marlow Prowler and owners of other quality yachts.

Moonen Partnership with Owners and Suppliers
Construction is proceeding apace at Moonen Shipyards in the Netherlands on the 42-metre luxury motoryacht Sofia. As is the case with any genuinely custom project, changes and additions are still being made to the design and facilities as the build progresses, meeting the owner's requirements in every respect. And as the largest Moonen to date takes shape, the value of partnering with best-in-class suppliers is also clear to see. The 42-metre Sofia is one of three major builds currently under construction at Moonen alongside two refit projects. The other new superyachts are an explorer and a fast displacement vessel, emphasising the unrivalled diversity on offer at Moonen. The same goes for the wide range of skills and disciplines available in-house, which are supplemented by close relationships with many leading marine equipment supply companies. These partnerships are coming to the fore as the build of Sofia continues on schedule and within budget. The owner's close involvement in the project adds to the sense of excitement as key milestones are passed. Among the recent changes he has requested in this evolutionary process has been to upgrade the dashboard to an integrated foil bridge. Moonen is implementing this in cooperation with Tijssen Elektro. Meanwhile, the entertainment system is being engineered and installed, increasing in sophistication all the time to include a full Kaleidoscope video server with Samsung Smart LED TVs and multi-room control (including lighting, blinds and climate control) via i-Pad. And the yacht's atrium will be executed with a custom piece of Concetto art made and supplied by Ceaser Stone in Israel.  An earlier change to the specs for Sofia saw the owner decide to extend the yacht by a further four feet in order that she could carry a submarine from U-boatworx capable of seating one captain and two passengers instead of the originally intended two in total. Sea trials on this submarine will begin in Malta in mid-May while back in Holland the dedicated launch crane is being pre-assembled and tested before final installation onboard the yacht.

Nordhavn New Offices
On the heels of news that another marine group has filed for bankruptcy, last week Pacific Asian Enterprises, Inc. began refurbishment of an iconic 9,000-square-foot Dana Point building that will serve as the company’s new world headquarters. The new state-of-the-art facility will house sales, project management, engineering, accounting, commissioning and shipping/receiving, which currently is spread out amongst three separate locations. Unifying all the departments into one space has been a long-term goal of P.A.E. ownership. Last year P.A.E. was awarded a 30-year-lease of the site of the former Beach House restaurant, located just down the street from the current site of Nordhavn’s Orange County-based southwest sales office and has spent the past several months designing and reconfiguring the building to include new offices for staff, owner/guest office suites, a conference and showroom and a gallery dedicated to the history of P.A.E. and the Dana Point waterfront.  Production will continue to take place at P.A.E.’s two partner factories, Ta Shing Yacht Building Co. in Taiwan and South Coast Marine in China.  While boat sales – new construction, in particular – have been stagnant across the industry for nearly three years, P.A.E. has been able to navigate the down period through the strength of its brand. Even more encouraging: the company has seen an uptick in both new and pre-owned sales in recent weeks, perhaps an indication that the worst of the yacht buying recession is in the past. Work is scheduled to continue throughout the summer and Streech said he is hopeful the staff can move into its new offices in November.
Numarine New Ownership
Numarine the Turkish high performance motoryacht shipyard, with a range from 55' - 130' based in Istanbul - is proud to announce for this May 2012 a "new course" for the yard. The previous owner and the founder Omer Malaz is again the sole owner of the Numarine Performance Yachts.  After the joint venture with Abraaj Group, which started in August 2008, the yard acquired a very positive identity and image in the international yachting market and the target was to be a worldwide well-known brand. Abraaj added additional brand values and as a partner  enabled Numarine to pass through the economic recession with few negative impacts. This powerful partner helped the business to continue more effectively.  For Numarine, Mr Malaz’s decision to come back as sole yard owner in 2012 will enforce business development with a worldwide expansion actions in the most important emerging markets, new management and new product launches. Omer Malaz - and his family - is one of the most famous entrepreneurs in Turkey (Malazlar Match Co, Turkey's second largest mach manufacturer) and the financial backing is stronger than ever in this very positive moment of Turkey’s economy. Situation of Numarine with recession, 2007/2008 business for Numarine was lighter but active and strong: 2012; 10 Boats sold and 51% of growth from 2011, 2013; 14 Boats (preview), 2014; 18 Boats (preview). Numarine for this 2012 new course is again cooperating with – the same "dream-team" of yacht designers of the calibre of Tommasso Spadolini, Can Yalman and Umberto Tagliavini (from Genoa University) - on new great yacht projects. Marketing policies are even stronger. Mrs Pinar Coskuner Genc manages all marketing and sales matters while Ali Tanir (previously in Vicem Yachts) is the new communication adviser. The commercial strategies preview to be stronger in homeland market, South America especially Brazil, Mexico, Venezuela and Middle East namely Lebanon and Far East with most attention in Hong Kong. The yard is planning to attend major boat shows such as Cannes, Ft.Lauderdale and Miami in addition to local but important shows in Rio, Beirut, Hong Kong and Jeddah. A worldwide advertising campaign will follow main launches of the yard during the 2012-2013.

Riva on National Geographic Channel
The famous motorboat Aquariva by Riva, a brand of the Ferretti Group, will be the protagonist of an episode of the TV programme “Megafabbriche Italiane”, on Monday 28th May at 9.55 pm on the National Geographic Channel (Sky’s Channel 403).  Next Monday “Megafabbriche Italiane” – the TV series that lets the public find out about Italy’s great, innovative factories, where world famous Italian products are manufactured – will “land” in Sarnico, on Lake Iseo, where Riva’s legendary history, which still lives on today, began 170 years ago. Starting from a humble shed located on the Bergamo side of the Lake, the Riva boatyard was capable of developing and modernising while keeping the charm of this unique, historical site unchanged, turning it into a reference location for the boating industry worldwide. Monday’s episode will be devoted to Aquariva, the brand’s 33-foot powerboat characterised by soft, stylish lines, that, more than any other craft in the range, reflects Riva's style evolution over the years. This model is the result of the cooperation between the designers of Officina Italiana Design (the design firm that exclusively designs all Riva yachts), AYT - Advanced Yacht Technology (Ferretti Group’s research and naval design centre), and the team of architects and designers of the Centro Stile Ferrettigroup.  Just like all Riva yachts, Aquariva is a true object of desire for noble people, actors, sports champions, businessmen and celebrities. Among them, it is enough to mention Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot and Liz Taylor, Sean Connery and Jean Paul Belmondo, Richard Burton and Jackie Stewart, but there are also royalties, princes and sheiks from all over the world.  Thanks to high-definition shooting and computer graphics, the public will be able to admire and find out more about this prestigious yacht, as well as to follow step-by-step the various production stages that unveil Riva's unique craftsmanship, care for details, and unrivalled skills and experience.

Sunseeker Help Launch New Marine Technology Center in Dorset
BMF member, Sunseeker International is backing Bournemouth & Poole College with a new venture into Marine Apprenticeships and training.  One of the South’s most prestigious companies is supporting a new Marine Technology Centre to train the next generation of marine engineers and boat builders. Sunseeker International has chosen The Bournemouth & Poole College as its education partner for the new Marine Technology Centre at its Poole campuses in Dorset. The College will open a new Marine Technology Centre by this September.  There will be upwards of 70 places for Sunseeker apprentices and capacity for over 250 at the new dedicated marine training facility, which will cover all aspects of the industry at both a craft and higher technical level.  Sunseeker says that to maintain its reputation and position as a world leader in luxury motor yacht design and manufacture, it needs to encourage the honing of high level skills in marine engineering and boat building. That’s where Bournemouth & Poole College comes in.  Although the bulk of funding for the project is through Bournemouth & Poole College, Sunseeker is sourcing essential equipment from its own supply chain to train apprentice engineers and boat builders.  Already Cummins Onan has agreed to supply a marine generator and Southampton-based CJR Propulsion is supplying boat propellers and shafts.  The Bournemouth & Poole College is funding the new centre with an investment of £250,000. They are also recruiting marine specialists to deliver the training in addition to support from Sunseeker.  Principal, Lawrence Vincent will unveil the new Marine Technology Centre in August. Existing Sunseeker apprentices, as well as new recruits, will get the centre off to a flying start.  Moving into marine engineering is a natural extension of The College’s core areas of expertise as the places planned for the new Marine Technology Centre will cover all aspects of the leisure marine industry sector, from marine mechanical and electrical engineering, to traditional boat building carpentry. Sunseeker International, which employs just over 2,200 at its seven manufacturing centres in Dorset, has been a global brand for more than five decades. Ninety nine per cent of its motor yachts are exported, making Sunseeker an important contributor to the Dorset economy and a major local employer in Poole.  The Bournemouth & Poole College is a large further education college with an Ofsted Grade 2 (good), with outstanding elements in employer engagement, and an excellent reputation for delivering training and Apprenticeships to local businesses.

As you can see in this latest picture, the 430 HTC starts looking more as a completed boat, even more so in this photo, see side safety railing installed.   We can say that the outer main shell of the 430 HTC is done, now is just to finish the job to its perfection which a high standard sport cruiser has to have, and install the pieces which make the boat.  A long journey especially in hull one, when the things start coming more together in reference to the design ideas showed on plans. An interesting detail of the 430 HTC which also comes from bigger Galeon, or yachts is the indifference it shows between the connection of the lower and upper structure in the aft part.  The Galeon 430 HTC actually looks as to be made all in one piece from aft thanks to seamless moulding between the structures, which then develops to a stainless steel rub rail.

New Model: Benetti Class 132 Classic Supreme

The technical launch of the first Benetti 132 Classic Supreme was held on Friday, May 4th at the shipyard site in sea side town Viareggio, the new location deputed to the construction of the six composite models of the Class line, from 93 to 145 feet.  Following the customary preliminary steps, the yacht was launched into the water, a ceremony witnessed by technical personnel, workers, and all Benetti staff who oversaw outfitting and construction over the past months.  A mark of design continuity today lasting over a couple of decades, follows the new gem of Benetti's Italian style, and springs from a project with exteriors designed by Stefano Righini and interiors by Francois Zuretti who, for this first boat and following the owner’s indications to draw inspiration from a particularly contemporary style, creates a sober, elegant interplay between the oak natural shade, the warm wenge, and diamond pattern leathers and hide.  The outfitting includes the most modern navigation systems developed by the shipyard: from the innovative integrated wheelhouse to the exclusive BEST technology platform; Benetti Exclusive Sea Technology integrating all onboard electronics and systems.  The new 132 Classic Supreme, among the different design solutions, offers also a gym-area on the upper deck, carving out an exclusive space for the Owner and his guests to further relax.  The 132 Classic Supreme is not just a new model to complete the Benetti Class range; it is also the first model built and outfitted in the Lucca Dockyard, the company’s new 4200 meters squared plus facility. Located adjacent to the historic site in Via Coppino, this facility can simultaneously handle production of three megayachts of up to 140 feet, thus effectively doubling the current production capacity and concentrating production of the entire line in Viareggio.  Power for the new Benetti Class 132 Classic Supreme is twin MTU 1450hp which give a 15 knots, 14 cruise, and a 12 knots long range speed delivering a 3500 nautical miles range.

Project: Carver 36 Mariner

Carver yachts has always been into making these hybrid looking sport bridge cruiser which makes maximum use of beam inside in a wide body feature, and the 36 Mariner keeps this heritage coming. Do you remember the nineties Santego series?  The 36 Mariner features a clever single level living main deck inside offering a relaxing L-shaped sofa, dining table, and galley.  Below to fore is a roomy owners double with en-suite head facilities.  Another nice feature of the 36 Mariner which comes from larger boats is also the forward settee located on the fore deck, something not seen much in modern cruisers of this size.  The aft deck of the 36 Mariner is left free, but the sun deck area where the helm is located features three bench settees, with a table in the middle.  Power is from four choices from Crusader, Yanmar, and Volvo from 200 up to 375hp in petrol gasoline or diesel power.  The twin Yanmar 315hp is the diesel option.

Mew Model: Clipper 50 Hudson Bay

A new challenge for down under Clipper motor yachts, who with the Hudson Bay series presents a mix up of traditional looking modern function down East lobster boat inspired yacht.  The Hudson Bay series is so far offered in two models; the 54 first project presented currently under development, and the 50 number one launch of the series taking to the water past March.  A different product from the more explorer Cordoba series offered by Clipper, although the same hull type of semi displacement design is offered in the Hudson Bay series.  But with a faster speed. The 50 Hudson Bay is first of all a very functional yacht with two layout choices available to the buyer, from the standard three cabins with owners stateroom to fore, or a two suites format which moves the master to midships.  Another interesting feature is also the choice of the helm station located to starboard, or central in the optional layout.  To like in the 50 Hudson Bay, is the galley located astern of the main deck saloon which thanks to the pivoting window of the patio door, becomes also part of the aft deck.  Power is from twin standard Yanmar 440 or optional 480hp which give a 26 knots max, 16 cruise, and a long range 8 knots economic run.

Improve-it = Fiart 33 Seawalker

Fiart clients ask, and the South Italian boat builder responds.  This is in synthesis how the press release for the new central hard top option on the 33 Seawalker was introduced on the official Fiart web site.  The 33 Seawalker introduced in the 2011 fall has a size which puts in the tax free small dimension Italian legislation. But the Seawalker is a twin engine diesel or petrol gas, and has also an interior which sleeps four in a two-plus-two cabin arrangement.  In this we see Fiart follow other Italian builders in the hybrid cross over center console sport cruiser which seems to have a growing interest in Italy and Southern Europe especially in the thirty to forty feet size.

Project: C.Boat 18.70 mtr One

C.Boat is a Sicily island located Italian builder on the outskirts of the city Palermo, which started its venture a few years go with a concept mixing Italian flare, semi displacement hull shapes, and a steel construction.  The initial venture of C.Boat was so far above the 24 meters plus Super Yacht size, but now the builder presents an entry level project of just above eighteen meters in length, seventeen in waterline, six in beam dimensions called One.  Again the design as all the range is by architect Mortola and the new small One C.Boat will keep similar characteristics for a Mediterranean yacht of its larger sister with a stylish very elegant line complementing the customisable interior.  The standard plan of the 18.70 meter One is for a three double cabins layout, though fair to say customization is not an option, but part of the process when a new C.Boat is in build.

Project: Tarquin Trader 585 Sunliner

Showed in conjunction with the 48 Signature the Tarquin Trader 585 Sunliner will be the bridge which fills a gap in the current range of this builder. The initial renderings show the 585 Sunliner as traditional to the DNA of this British company, that is as an aft cabin motor yacht, with a very big boat feel to it.  This is further shown in the huge flybridge, very wide and safe side decks, and the tender stowage up top.  Live aboard features are standard in nearly all Trader models, so you definitely will have the same in the 585 Sunliner, which will be fourth in size model behind the 75, 70 Motoryacht, and 64 of the same range.  So far Trader has not shown any interior plans, and not even mentioned engine power.  But do accept a semi displacement hull as in nearly all Tarquin Trader models, minus the recently introduced 38 Sprint.

New Model: Steeler NG50

In recent years Dutch builders of medium sized craft have been getting high global interest. Steeler is one of these builder who in recent months has launched two new models the NG43 and 50.  After showing the medium sized new 43 a few weeks ago, now is turn of the large and current Steeler flagship NG50.  As all Steeler, and as the name says it all the NG50 is a steel constructed conservative looking sport yacht, which never looks out of fashion.  So far Steeler have delivered two NG50 with hull two being an eye catching bronze color and more modern minimal finish inside, featuring oak and Wenge against the maple woods of hull one.  Interior standard plan of the NG50 is standard with a three cabins layout, with owners room to fore, two double cabins to midships, and a saloon and galley in between.  Engine have also been different in both models; with hull one having a single 264hp Yanmar more an inland waterways package, and number two twin Steyr 280hp.

Capitalizing on the same deep displacement hull as the standard 42, Selene in hull number 33 showed the new EuroDeck configuration.  The Selene 42 Eurodeck offers significantly more living space and fuel capacity than its popular sister ship, here having an increase of just a bit less to 20%. The 42 Eurodeck is also different inside with its layout having a more European flavoured staterooms forward layout, plus an increases in the size of the salon by nearly one-third. That is excluding that this has also a connection feeling with the aft deck when patio door is open. Along with more room in the salon, the 42 Eurodeck advances in cockpit and storage compartments.  Power is from a single Cummins 230hp which with the seaworthy displacement hull, and solid heavy construction giving eighteen tons plus of weight gives a cruise of about 9 knots.

Project: Azimut 55 S

A new Azimut project is always big news for the yachting community, mostly because of the advances this Italian builder brings to the design of the genre in general.  This Azimut 55 S project has been always an awaited project from my side may be since 2006, mostly because of the gap I always felt there was between the 43 and 62 of the sport series range from the known Italian yachting brand.  With the 55 S Azimut present a totally new innovative project.  What is a surprise here is that Azimut sort of returns to pod drives with this new project.  After the still in production 2005 presented 43 S, and loads of testing, research and design with the 50 and 55 flybridge models, and 62 S it was always felt that Azimut sort of distanced itself from pod drives, as none of these actually made it officially in the market.  Fast forward to now and the 55 S will be powered by triple Volvo 435hp, and IPS pods which will give a top speed of 35 knots.  On the design fronts the Azimut 55 S also breaks some molds from its predecessors we here see a near to axe bow which is in fact a more vertical steep but it gives that impression, and a forward looking settee on the fore deck, which apart traditional Gozzo, or explorer cruisers makes it the smaller yacht size to offer this.  Inside Azimut 55 S will offer the usual modern spaces coming from the Italian brand with a full beam owners stateroom, no bunk guest cabin, and queen sized berth VIP to fore.  Interesting is also the spaces offered on the main deck with a sofa which will be over seven meters in length.  Construction wise Azimut says a lot of innovation goes in to the 55 S structure, a bow reinforced with stainless steel, carbon components in all reinforcement areas plus a superstructure fully sandwiched in this material,  and crystal inserted windows which apart from being a design stance are also part of the structural integrity.  Construction of hull one is well underway, but official presentation for the new 55 S is expected in the fall of this year, think Cannes 2012.

The exteriors follow the specific requests of the Owner but it is in the inside that he freed his creativity with the co-operation of Overmarine’s Design Team of experts starting from the layout with four cabins: one full beam Master stateroom, two guests and a spacious VIP. The rest is then dedicated to full relax and enjoyment from the main deck, to the cockpit, main salon with relax and dining areas, the lower deck together with the cabins, a relax room and a gym. New Model: Kardis 50 Akuma

Italian builders Kardis have recently launched their new Rib Yacht 50 Akuma.  Design of the new Kardis flagship comes from Andrea Cardinetti and his team of Molina and Cavagna. The design team presents the 50 Akuma with sleek looks, and aerodynamic lines emphasized in the aggressiveness of its deck shapes, which are followed by aesthetics of design and the functionality of the inflatable structure. Project: Austin Parker 36

As it always happens legal aspects can make a builder to present new products which where not in the immediate planning, and this is the case with the Austin Parker 36, which is made to suit small ship dimension and the currently enforced new tax laws for boats over ten meters.  Designed as all the range by Fulvio De Simino the Austin Parker 36 continues this Italian builder looks of down East lobster cruiser with a modern influence going into its exterior department.  Accommodation wise the new entry level Austin Parker 36 offers a very spacious aft deck with three dinettes, and an interior with a Vee shaped berth, L-shaped sofa, galley and separate shower head.  Power comes from Volvo twin 260hp with IPS pods, again a novelty for Austin Parker who in its other models has always stayed with the tradition of line shafts.  Estimated performance is 34 knots max, and a 30 cruise.
