Alicante Doma 4 Acclaimed Barcelona Beauty

The prestigious British magazine “Motor Boat” has selected Doma as one of the most impressive new launches at the past International Barcelona Boat Show. Is in that way how the Doma 4 has been defined as the “Barcelona Beauty”. The new launch from Astilleros de Alicante clearly shows the international expansion strategy of Doma. As Motor Boat has pointed out, one of the evidences of the Boat Show is to confirm the evolution of Doma, the “Spanish growing marque”. According to this publication, the Barcelona Boat Show has unveiled the new and “thrilling” Spanish launches, which “much temp the British buyers”, among which the Doma 4 has shown to be one of the stars. This recognition from Motor Boat adds to the acclamation that Doma 4 has received since its world premier last November. And the passion for design that Doma represents has been again remarked by a prestigious publication.

Azimut Show 2000 Metres Above Sea Level

The Azimut 43 S is choreographically included in the Alpine context: the yacht’s wake has been made by snow artists and sculptors to create the fascination of a yacht plowing through the waves of the sea... amid splendid snow-covered peaks. In the sixteen days of the show the yacht is being visited by the exclusive guests of Courchevel 1850, who will be able to dream about their next summer vacation aboard one of Azimut’s prestigious yachts, symbols throughout the world of contemporary elegance, comfort and distinction.

Hatteras Moves Production To New Bern

Hatteras Yachts has announced that over the next several months it will gradually shift production from its Swansboro plant to its larger New Bern facility to take advantage of productivity gains there. Though Hatteras is forecasting a double-digit growth in sales for 2008 versus 2007, Hatteras management is confident that improvements in its manufacturing process at New Bern will allow consolidation of its boat building activities there to satisfy production commitments. Upon completion of manufacturing Hatteras product in June, the Swansboro facility will be available for manufacturing of other Brunswick boat brand yachts. Over the course of this production shift by Hatteras, 200 positions will eventually be eliminated at Swansboro. For those employees who do not stay with the company, Hatteras will offer appropriate severance and other assistance.

Riva Hits St.Moritz Ski Runs

If the mountain will not come to Mahomet, Mahomet must go to the mountain. Following this principle, Riva celebrates the beginning of 2008 reaching his owners and lovers who, in winter, leave the sea for the ski runs in the most exclusive locations of Europe. In December the first Riva Corners were inaugurated, giving brand lovers the chance to admire miniatures of the famous yachts and photographic panels running through images of the Riva history. Two special corners can be admired at the renewed Carlton Hotel, former summer residence of tsar Nicholas II built in 1913 and facing the St. Moritz lake, and in the exclusive Corviglia restaurant, which, placed at 2500 m, is one of the highest Yacht Club in the world. This new project couldn’t miss to include also the Queen of the Dolomites. Cortina, the Italian ski resort par excellence, hosts in its famous Cristallo Palace Hotel & Spa a miniature of the Rivale and three panels of the Riva Historical Archive, telling the evolution of the shipyard from the origins in 1842 until today.

Riviera Scoops The Pool In Gamefish Tournament

Riviera scooped the pool at the Riviera Light Tackle Masters game fishing tournament held off the Gold Coast over the month of January. Rivieras took out both first and second team places. Overall Champion Boat went to Reel Deal, a Riviera 37 owned by Les Corby. Les took delivery of his boat on the Thursday before the event started, just in time to complete registration. Runner up boat went to the new Riviera 48 Offshore Express, Freelance, in its very first tournament. A fleet of 56 boats, from trailer boats of less than 20 feet up to an 85-foot cruiser, competed through the three-day tournament in often difficult sea conditions. A total of 15 marlin were tagged and released. According to Gold Coast Game Fish Club President Craig “Grinner” Newton, it was one of the most successful events ever run by the club.

Sarnico Group Logo

Four companies working in the nautic field are gathered under one sole logo: the starfish, the most charming among the marine creatures with its typical pentamerous symmetry which represents an advanced example of geometry in nature. A perfect symbol for those who design and build boats, right through the refinement of the shapes create a great “feeling” between man and sea. The five typical arms, that in some specimens may reach the number of fifty, symbolize activities of expansion and extension and depict notably the link among the different companies through the centre that sets the policy of progress and direction, as well as the starfish wraps its vital organs. Presently Sarnico group is composed by Cantieri di Sarnico, builders of prestigious yachts, Giacomo Colombo &C, producing speedboats and day cruisers of first class since 50 years, Sarnico II, a company located in Campania, dealing in moulding and assembling fiberglass manufactured products, Yacht Service Rapallo charged to give assistance and storage to the clients. The star, symbol of the sea and ideally the farthest point in the universe, represents the nautic identity of Sarnico group and points out the purposes of research and development beyond every aim.

Projects: Fashion 141, Fashion 112, Fashion 88, Fashion 72 Classic, Fashion 55 Tender

Fashion Yachts located in the glamorous Tuscany region in Italy, presents some important projects for the future, starting with this big 44 metre Super Yacht. As yet the builder provided little information accept for this exterior design which shows a two and a half decked flybridge super yacht. Fashion estimates speed of 30 knots with 2 x 2500 hp MTU engines. While 141 feet might seem big the yard has also in project 2 other bigger yachts of 166 and 192 feet, a very ambitious future indeed for such a young builder, who has already gained a lot of reputation with the smaller 55, 68 and 116 models. Second project for the Fashion line is this flybridge super yacht of 35 metres with 2 and half decks and an estimated top speed of 32 knots. The new Fashion 88 project follows the lines of the 116 model but in a more aggressive design. With an aft located living zone under a carbon, crystallised hard top which gives a strong and light weight construction for the super structure giving a safe navigation to the guests in the difficult conditions. A top speed of 40 knots is being estimated with 2 x 2400 hp MTU engines propelled with Arneson Surface Drives. The Fashion 72 Classic project is something unexpected of what this yard has presented since its origin a few years back of fast sport hard top yachts. In fact this is a project of a semi displacement flybridge motor yacht with generous horsepower of only 2 x 700 hp engines giving maximum speeds of 21 knots and cruising of 18 knots. The interior will be available in 3 and 4 cabins layouts. Based on the lines of the successful Fashion 55, the 55 Tender is a fast runabout aimed at the client who has a big superyacht or a villa by the sea and wants a big comfortable daily runabout sport yacht. The interior is based with a layout offering 2 cabins, one double for owner and a single for crew. Standard propulsion is a classic shaft drive style. A hidden jet bike garage is located forward just behind the anchor winch.

New Model: Rodman 44 Muse

The new Rodman Muse 44 is the compact model in the Spanish builder luxurious range, which recently received Best Development Project award at the World Yacht Trophies in Cannes. With a twelve-metre long hull, the Muse 44 respects the attractive modern style the rest of the range enjoys, with the marked superstructure lines, the three lateral windows and a lively sports character for a flybridge cruiser. The 44 maximises the available volume, enabling a highly attractive, functional, and comfortably spacious three cabin interior that matches that found in bigger boats. The 44 Muse is also innovative in it's propulsion system featuring Volvo's IPS system giving the best in marina handling, superior speed manoeuvring and greater interior accommodation. While the use of the IPS system is very common today it is still very rare seeing the POD propulsion used on any flybridge cruisers and yachts, but the fact that Rodman was among the first using it on the 41 IPS can give a reassuring guarantee that this project is well developed in its roots.

Casa presents this very important project of there new 64 Hard Top, which will be the largest model produced to date, trying to follow on the success enjoyed with the 54 and 46 models. Measuring an overall length of 20 metres, the new Casa will have a versatile interior offering 2 different layout options. The 64 optional layout will be quite unique in it's competing size range, offering 4 guest cabins, without sacrificing any heads as also this version features 3 head similar in size to the 3 cabin version. Galley and crew cabin in the new 64 are located in a separate area mid-ships making for the best in privacy an owner would desire. Projects: Ferretti Custom Line 33 Navetta, Ferretti Custom Line 112 Next

The project for the new Ferretti Custom Line 33 Navetta will be launched in the coming Spring. Biggest yacht in the Navetta series from she will replace the successful 30 Navetta and follows the long standing collaboration of Ferretti with Zuccon design for the exterior lines. The new big Navetta follows themes showed in the just presented 26 model but has also design elements reminding of the much appreciated 30. She is like her smaller sisters a three deck motor yacht and will be offered in two different interior layouts of 4 cabins named or 5 cabins. The 5 cabin layout features the master stateroom on the main deck. Her semi displacement type hull will give top speeds of 19 knots and cruising of 16 knots, which gives an estimated range of 780 nautical miles. Engine options are 2 options, both MAN with the biggest twin 1550hp giving the before mentioned speeds, but smaller 1360hp are also available. The upcoming Ferretti Custom Line 112 Next, as the title suggest is the next interpretation of the successful 112 model with some very apparent changes aimed at continuing the leadership in the coming years. The immediately noticeable changes are the hard top up on the flybridge and huge cabin windows on the hull sides, aimed at giving spectacular views to the owner and his guests. Other important change is the free lounging area in the upper deck, flybridge area offering what is a big party socialising area to the owner and his guests. Based on a fast planning hull design, the flagship of the Custom Line should give top speeds close to 30 knots with a pair of MTUs of 2400hp each. She is certified and classed, as are also her smaller sisters in the Custom Line fleet to rigorous RINA A-1.1Y standards, showing the high level of construction Ferretti uses in it's range of super yachts.

Boat Review: Intermare 36 Fly

Presentation
So after some critics from some friends that PowerYacht is too much of the bigger boats, although that is not the case as it is mostly the market which is pushing in that direction, I decided this month to have a better view of a medium sized flybridge cruiser the Intermare 36 Fly. Presented in the 2006 Genova boat show this new Intermare is an interesting entry medium level boat with an overall length of 38 feet. For interested parties Intermare also offers a hard top version named the 36 Cruise, obviously missing the flybridge and second helm station up top.
Accommodation
Medium sized family cruisers of 30 feet plus have been the building foundation of the Intermare brand in the last decade and the 36 Fly is all about being a comfortable family cruiser. It offers 2 cabins both with double berth, with the master stateroom located forward. A separate single shower head is located to port. The saloon located on the main deck features an L-shaped settee with a hidden counter top galley located opposite to the settee to port. The interior helm station with a single seat is situated forward of the L-shaped settee in the saloon area to starboard.
Being a Med based producer the exterior space is pretty good considering the small dimensions of the 36 Fly, offering a very spacious aft deck cockpit, a big bathing platform which can hold a tender and a comfortable fly bridge up top. The fly area is very smart offering a small c-shaped settee, sun pad and a single seated helm station.
Performance
Intermare is renowned for seaworthy boats, and the fact that this model uses tradition shaft driven engines confirms this. The Intermare is also very economical to run with the Yanmar engines which deliver among the best power to weight but also a very good power to consumption levels.
Positive
Aft deck cockpit space
Negative
Low safety railing in flybridge
Competition
As I said in my introduction this size of boat is very much pretty much abandoned by most of the builders, or to be precise by the companies who build a solid reputation around this size of craft in the eighties and nineties. Still if one looks closely at the market there is a handful of new comers but also some old builders who consider this size of utmost importance to there production. Here is what you have to look for:
DellaPasqua DC10S - classic squarish look, seaworthy, big inside with 2 heads
Jeanneau 36 Prestige - more space, similar in size and style
Portofino 37 Fly - gozzo evolution, bunk guest cabin, rich finish, deep around deck
Rodman 38 Yacht - big interior accommodation thanks to IPS propulsion
Sciallino S34 Flybridge - Gozzo modern function, interesting and spacious
Searay 36 Sedan Bridge - spacious, 2 huge cabins 1 head but owner walk in wardrobe
Sealine F37 - spacious, huge galley, 2 big cabins and also 2 heads
WILD CARD: Riviera 3600 Sport Yacht - hard top, patio door opens all, bunk 2nd cabin
Conclusion
The Intermare 36 Fly gives a lot of goods of form and function for an only 38 foot flybridge cruiser. Gone are the days when owning a boat this size was like having a ship, but I am sure that for people trading up this is still the case! Today there is less status symbolism in this dimension, so builders compete on the practical, trying to put a lot in the available size. Sure this was never easy and competition is always as heavy as it ever was. The 36 Fly wins the game if you want a sport looking flybridge boat that does not look heavy: extended fly, extended platform and spacious cockpit all say, I am made for the Med but this is not the only reason for having a look at this good looking flybridge cruiser.

Project: Cranchi 36 Pelican

Based on the hull design and lines of the new 36 Zaffiro, the new Cranchi 36 Pelican aims to recapture the success the Pelican sport fishing line enjoyed during the 80s. The new 36 Pelican is a winner in many cases, offering good accommodation inside with a comfortable 2 seperate double cabins and a transformable c-shaped dinette as is the case for the Zaffiro. The new Pelican enjoys a special sport fisherman friendly cockpit with design enjoyed for making an anglers life as easy as it gets. Hull design is by Aldo Cranchi and the project is by Cranchi Research Development Department. It has two engine options from Volvo offering the D4 engine in 260 or the optional bigger 300 hp format. Propulsion will be an economic and efficient stern drive configuration. The new 36 Pelican is an interesting project capturing both worlds in one boat, that of a sport fisherman in the cockpit outside and of a comfortable cruiser inside with it's well laid out interior.

Mochi Craft New Web Site

Mochi Craft presents its new World wide web show room.  Mochi was started in 1962 by Luciano Mochi Zamperoli and Renato Raffaelli as partner. In 1970 Raffaelli separates from Luciano and Mochi Craft is founded, this is followed in 1972 by moving the premises from Fano commercial harbour to the Pesaro industrial park.  Mochi boats are first build of marine plywood, with the switch to fiberglass construction coming in 1977.  In 1991 Luciano retires and gives leadership duties to Luigi Prosperi, a second in command to Mochi since the early eighties with a previous Iveco Fiat diesel engines sales experience.  Prosperi will manage Mochi till 1999 the year of its bankruptcy.  In 2001 Ferretti Group will purchase the Mochi Craft name, entering into the lobster down East cruisers and yachts market two years later.  From the late seventies up until the early nineties Mochi is one of the influential and important medium large Italian motor cruisers and yacht builders which set trends in the market not only in Italy but World wide.  From the beginning Luciano Mochi shows well thought commercial moves from entering with Renato, and winning the hardest and longest offshore Viareggio-Bastia-Viareggio race in 1968 with the production made Mochi Tahitian, to starting and produce only diesel powered boats. Other clever moves come in the eighties and the smart use of designers, like Fulvio de Simoni who penned the early eighties Dominator series, and is followed by Paolo Caliari who designs all models for ten years from 1984 to 94. Mochi last designers before the Ferretti Group era were the emerging Nuvolari Lenard, who will design three yachts from nineteen to 25 meters from 1995 to 99, with two other projects of a seventeen and a twenty meter which will be later produced by Dominator, which will take over some of the Mochi Craft assets and designs.  Paolo Caliari was the most important Mochi designer, with models like the 44 and 46 becoming icons at launch and a representation of the Italian yachting renaissance of the late eighties.  Another interesting Mochi strategy was that of corporative branding, started with the 1983 to 87 Mochi Comar corporation which will produce two models, to that of the Caliari Yacht off-shot which created the Puma, Coanda, and the CY series, this last selling four units of the 27 meter in between the late eighties and early nineties.  When Ferretti Group take over the Mochi name in early 2001, the design is trusted to Zuccon and Brunello Acampora for naval architecture of the traditional Down-East lobster cruiser and yacht series which debuts with the 51 Dolphin and is followed by the smaller 44 and larger 74 models in the space of a few years.  Mochi always launched important flagship models, from the C50 Fly in 1984 which debuts Paolo Caliari design partnership, to the largest ever Nuvolari-Lenard designed 25 Mega, which again put the Venice duo as main designers for the next four years.  Mochi currently offers five traditional lobster cruiser and yachts which start with the 44 Dolphin and go up to the 74 Dolphin, with the latest models being the new 54 Dolphin and the 64 Dolphin Flybridge.  Mochi new web site is available in Italian, English, and Chinese language and takes you around with the following buttons; Home, Company, The Fleet, News and Events, Dealer and Service Network, Pre-Owned, and Owner's Area.  Mochi is also on social media with a link taking you to its Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Telegram, and Pinterest pages.

Projects: Sanlorenzo 44 Steel, Sanlorenzo SD 112

The famous San Lorenzo shipyard after presenting it's first Alloy Super Yacht last year follows with the project of the 44 Steel. As the title suggest the new Super Yacht from the Viareggio shipyard will be built in Steel. Little information is as yet available about the new project accept for the fact that it will be a three deck. Whatever the case if it will be as innovative and catching as the latest 40 Alloy we are for another threat this renowned yacht builder.
Another new line for San Lorenzo which was introduced in 2007 with the SD 92. SD standing for a semi displacement type hull yacht, giving comfortable but also a more economic speed compared to the planning line this builder is renowned for. The SD 112 unlike it's smaller sister is a three deck motor yacht and will have a 5 cabin interior for 10 guests. Crew accommodation is for 7 members in 4 cabins. Performance is an estimated top speed of 18 knots with continues cruising at 15 knots, powered by Caterpillar C32 Acert engines of 1622hp each. The SD 112 confirms similar characteristics to the SD 92 introduced in 2007 but in bigger more important dimensions. It will be curious to see if San Lorenzo will try to take the concept of a Semi Displacement Yacht in lower size range under 24 metres in the future.

New Model: Astondoa AS 42 Fly

Presented during the 2007 Barcelona Boat Show the new Astondoa AS 42 Fly comes to the market with a few innovative well taught ideas. Designed by Italian Christian Gatto, this biggest and prestigious Spanish builder continues to offer extremely spacious and innovative forward looking boats. The interior is a spacious unusual three cabin offer, with all cabins of spacious and important size with no bunk or squeezed third cabin. Considering the dimension of a 12 metre flybridge motor cruiser this is a huge feat. The upper saloon area also enjoys a small dining area to port side of the interior helm station and that is something you also don't see much in boats of this size. The interior furnishing takes a minimal squarish approach with finishing in light colored oak woods with dark wood Wenge colors. From the engineering point, this new Astondoa flybridge will also be offered with an IPS engine option something not seen much on flybridge boats, but for the traditionalists the shaft powered version is the standard offer.

Project: Pershing 64

This project of the new Pershing 64 will be launched later on in 2008 and follows the success of the 72 model which was introduced the past year. Pershing continue the Moving Idea concept with many innovation characteristics introduced for the successful 72 and more to be found in this new model, as has been always the case with this very innovative yacht builder. The new 64 is a spacious 3 cabin hard top sports yacht, feeling much bigger then it's actual size suggest. It will feature a full beam owner's cabin that can even make a fly bridge yacht of the same dimensions a bit jealous, but also the galley offers spaces not usually found in yachts of this size and type. Top of the category performance has always been of prime importance from Pershing, and this new model does not disappoint with the builder estimating a top speed of 45 knots with a pair of 1550hp MAN engines with the latest Arneson Surface Drives units.

Project: Tecnomar 43 Nadara

The latest Tecnomar project is represented by a new flagship of 43 meters long and entirely made in fiberglass. Nadara 43 is ready to set sail next July 2008 and like any other Nadara model its outboard profile has been built to maintain cleanliness and tradition. Passageways are everywhere on its three decks and there is no full beam deck to ensure greater protection when passing through one area to another. The motoryacht is designed to accommodate 14 passengers and 6 crew members. The flying deck for relaxation and sunbathing is equipped with a spa bath and a spacious sun deck, comfortable sofas, sunbeds and armchairs. Almost entirely reserved for the shipowner, the second deck, which can be reached through a private staircase from the hall hosts a studio and a big shipowner's cabin with en-suite bathroom behind the wheelhouse. Spectacular lighting and large glass surfaces are the cutting edge design of the new flagship. All decks are connected by one imposing spiral staircase. The sleeping area has 4 master bedrooms and two twin-bedded cabins. Three twin cabins and a dinette with kitchenette have been reserved for the crew. Between the guest area and the engine room there's a buffer area for the crew with laundry and ironing room, which is directly connected to the engine room. The main deck reveals somewhat of a retro style; the prow features a very large kitchen connected to the crew area, handy and functional, with refrigerator cells and a huge galley. Behind the kitchen, the large dining room can seat 14 diners and can easily be divided into two smaller areas. The interior design is classical marine style with the predominance of warm colors, mahogany and pear wood. The furniture lines are smooth with blunted corners. Power is provided by two 3000 hp MTU engines with in-line propulsion and should give a maximum speed of around 28 knots, with a maximum cruising speed of 25.

Best of 2007

2007 is PowerYachtBlog first year, as this motor boats and yachts blog was started in March.  2007 was a year as the one before it, which continued the growth of the pleasure boating industry, with the old continent, and Italy first pushing this seven year or more lasting upward trend.  The Best of Year list marks the year ended PowerYacht favourites.  The criteria's for the Best of the Year are not really written, but technical innovation, and design challenge are the most appreciated two.

PowerYacht's Best of 2007 is the Sanlorenzo 40 Alloy. Since 2006 Sanlorenzo has a management lead by new owner Massimo Perotti.  The 40 Alloy designed by Paszkowski shows the forward thinking direction Perotti is about, rivalling some neighbouring names in sleekness with technical innovation thrown into the design, see drop down balcony in the main deck owners stateroom.  Worth a note is that Sanlorenzo also released the SD92 which would have just been in this list have it not been for this future looking new current forty meter flagship.  Two new different lines for the first full two years in management show that Sanlorenzo will be a big force in semi-production super yachts in no time.

The others.

Absolute 52. Immediately trying IPS pod propulsion in 2006 with the current tri-engines 56 flagship, Absolute follows it a year later with two smaller 47 and 52 models.  The 52 is a fully enclosed hard-top with patio door, and a lower deck fully dedicated to the three double cabins layout.

Baia 70 Italia. Baia is regarded top draw for surface drive high performance cruisers and yachts with comfort.  The 70 Italia follows this with a fully enclosed hard top with disappearing act patio door, something seen in the 78 Atlantica launched in 2003.  Modern classic style at its best.

Feadship F45 Vantage. Its been possibly decades since the Dutch super yacht renowned name offered a semi-custom platform.  But here we are with Feadship offering this 45 meter semi custom model with the help of Dutch designer Sinot.

Ferretti 510. The astern galley on the main deck as presented in the fall 2005 with the 630 goes two into this second smallest size Ferretti.  It works so well and is a layout revolution, that will feature in most flybridge yachts sub twenty meters in the near future.

Overmarine Mangusta 165. Mangusta has been breaking size record for what is called the maxi super sport yacht over the years since the nineties.  Can anyone beat the Mangusta 165?

Riviera 4400 Sport Yacht. Riviera all enclosed hard top Sport Yacht range has been a success since debuting with the 3600 in 2005.  In 2007 Riviera wants more of this and presents the 4700 and a more innovative 4400 Sport Yacht, this last also being its first IPS pod propulsion boat.

Sealine SC35. A new minimal design from Sealine which translates to one of the most spacious cockpit decks in its size.  Reports say it is selling very well.

Uniesse 75 Open HT. Uniesse new 23 meter flagship expands the Carolina sportfish inspired looks as designed by Fred Hudson.  Trademark distinct looks since founded in 1990 gets biggest ever.

Going large. Princess 95 MY. A new Princess flagship brings attention, taking the famous British brand to a new large size of 28 meters, three meters to the previous flagship.  The 95 also brings Princess new MY range with a cleaner sleeker more standardised looks compared to the M series it replaces, with an 85 MY replacing the previous 25M flagship currently in project-build stages.  Can Princess go bigger to this, only time will tell.

PowerYacht wishes to all its followers, friends, readers, and visitors a Healthy and Prosperous 2008 year.
