Four boats were destroyed and severely damaged by fire in a boat storage facility located in Birzebbuga, to the South-East of the Island of Malta on the late evening of Wednesday seventh May. The fire is reported to have started on a sport cruiser of nine meters in length, and then spread to other nearby boats. Civil Protection Malta responded to the fire with five fire engines, five water carriers, and a foam tender, with firefighters from Stations 1, 3, 4, 5, and 8 also responding to the fire. The fire was successfully brought under control. Some boat owners were treated for minor smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire is not reported.
