CRN First Refit

A wonderful CRN jewel left the Shipyard: the 46-metre vessel Eight, the first refit of a CRN yacht by the home builder that marks the first tangible step towards a new development path. Sobriety and style, streamlined and elegant lines, airy spaces and very refined interiors which have been totally reshaped and rebuilt: these are the main distinctive features of this megayacht designed by CRN’s Engineering Department in cooperation with the international design firm Nuvolari Lenard, which conceived the outer lines.

Ferretti Group New Dealership Agreements in Asia Pacific

Ferretti Group further strengthens its sales presence in the Asia Pacific region by signing two new dealership agreements with important local partners targeting increased growth and development in foreign markets. The first agreement, signed with Starship Yachts, a pioneer company in the Asian yachting sector, covers the markets of Hong Kong and Macau, giving the company exclusive dealership rights for Ferretti Yachts and Pershing branded boats. The second agreement, on the other hand, was signed with Ray White Marine, a major player in the marketing of new and used boats as well as pre- and after-sales service, part of the wider real estate group of the same name with over 70 years of experience. This agreement covers the markets of Australia and New Zealand, providing exclusive dealership rights for Ferretti Yachts, Riva and Pershing boats. In Australia, Ferretti Group, with the support of Ray White Marine, will attend the most important trade events on agenda for next year, scheduled in locations where the dealer has its main operating sites. Participation at Australian trade shows is intended to help increasing the Group's local market share, and these will include Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, to be held in Gold Coast in May 2016, and Sydney International Boat Show, which will take place in the capital city in August 2016. The two agreements are in line with Ferretti Group's strategy to strengthen commercial expansion on a global scale, with a focus on the APAC area. Indeed, these agreements will allow the Group to further grow its selected distribution network, made of around 60 international dealers worldwide, which guarantees its customers the highest level of support in over 80 countries.

Hatteras Caribbean Cruise Camaraderie

Each year, the Hatteras Antilles Rendezvous, organized by Antilles Yachts Brokerage and Sales of Puerto Rico, brings Hatteras owners together in the Caribbean for a long weekend of cruising, camaraderie, and fun in the sun. The 14th Annual edition of the Rendezvous, held July 9-12, drew Hatteras yachts ranging from 60 to 77 feet to Peter Island Resort and Spa, a scenic, upscale private island resort and marina in the popular British Virgin Islands. The event kicked off on Thursday evening with a welcome cocktail party that included a Martini Challenge. On Friday, the Hatteras owners and their guests gathered by the pool at Peter Island Resort for a delicious outdoor barbecue, then explored the tiny, jewel-like island and lounged on its soft, white-sand beaches. The next morning, John Ward, president and CEO of Hatteras/CABO Yachts, and his team, who attended the Rendezvous, gave the owners an update on new Hatteras Yachts products. On Saturday afternoon, the Hatteras Rendezvous fleet “invaded” nearby Norman Island, which inspired Robert Louis Stevenson’s pirate novel Treasure Island, and anchored out in the appropriately named Deadman’s Bay. That evening, the group returned to Peter Island Resort for the Rendezvous’ traditional costume party and awards ceremony.

Numarine Makes First Legal Charter in Cuba

Numarine has the pleasure to announce that Numarine 78 Flybridge M/Y Still Water has been the very first US flagged yacht cruising to Cuba since the trade embargo between the two countries were implemented in the 1960’s. Numarine Still Water were docked in Marina Hemingway near Havana last week. The yacht carried 12 American guests and three of crew. Yacht crossed the Straits of Florida and Gulf Stream after the departure from Key West four hours prior. First glimpse of Cuba came with the single bright beam from the light-house of El Morro, a colonial era fortress which welcome along with Malécon lights ship approaching Havana. Before to meet immigration a voice crackled over the radio to welcome Still Water and give directions to find out light-house buoys marking the channel. A unique experience. Passengers and crew entered the country on a “person-to-person permit”, one of twelve different types of exemptions American citizens can bypass the ban upon visiting Cuba. Currently non-American flagged yachts are able and free to visit the island, but then they are not being able to enter American waters for the six months following. Based to Numarine and local brokers hard activities seven months to obtain the legal go-ahead for Still Water’s departure to Cuba and cruise the island! Public ferry companies operating from the States now aims achieve the same result and open to a large market of tourism-related opportunities to the region.

Princess Partner with Pink

British luxury yacht manufacturer Princess Yachts is launching a stunning limited edition capsule collection of merchandise to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Renowned Spanish illustrator Jaume Vilardell was commissioned to produce two images encapsulating the 1960's holiday-chic vibe to incorporate into the designs. A glamorous couple lounge by the pool, with their Project 31 yacht moored in the distance - the first model produced by Princess 50 years ago. Produced with rich colours reflecting the bold illustrative style of the mid-60's, this collection is a real departure from traditional staid merchandise. The collection has been co-developed in England by Jermyn Street shirt-maker Thomas Pink. The gentleman's silk pocket–square and hand printed ladies' silk scarf feature a full illustration and Jaume Vilardell's signature while the timeless men's polo shirt pulls through subtle cues from the illustration onto the under-collar. The polo that is available in Ice White, Hillier Pink (named after the famously coloured West Australian lake) or Azure Blue, features contrast tipping details on the sleeve, placket and side seem, and sees the signature Thomas Pink fox with a witty Princess twist - sat on sailing rope, wearing a Captain's crown hat and blazer with epoulets. Reflecting the luxury, style and craftsmanship ethos at the heart of Princess' celebrated yacht design and drawing on Thomas Pink's tradition of quality and sartorial excellence, each piece has been designed using luxurious cotton piquet and silk fabrics from Italy. The three classic silhouettes are set to become must-have wardrobe essentials, allowing those who purchase them the opportunity to step into the coveted and elegant world of Princess Yachts. As well as being the muse for the newly created merchandise, Project 31 has been at the centre of a dedicated restoration programme. Commissioned by Princess to celebrate the company's success over the past five decades, a team of Princess Craftsmen, some of whom worked on the original boat, have dedicated their time to lovingly restore her to her former glory. The Princess Yachts' limited edition merchandise collection will be available to purchase from September 2015 and will be unveiled and on sale at the Cannes Yachting Festival marking the beginning of the company's 50th anniversary celebrations.

Owners and special guests from across the globe will attend a VIP champagne breakfast event on the 9th of September to celebrate this achievement which signals a true coming of age for this iconic British brand. The launch of Sunseeker’s first 100ft+ model, the 105 Yacht in the summer of 2000, was the initial step in the brand’s progress towards becoming a major player in the superyacht sector. Since then it has taken the companyless than fifteen years to reach this impressive milestone, producing on average around seven 100ft+ yachts every year at its manufacturing facilities in Dorset, UK. Sunseeker’s 100ft+ offering has rapidly evolved and now extends from the sleek and powerful 101 Sport Yacht to the majestic flagship 155 Yacht, with a diverse range of options in between. The company also has several exciting new models set for launch in 2016, including the new 131 Yacht and 116 Yacht which have both attracted multiple forward orders from customers until 2017. An appealing feature of every 100ft+ Sunseeker is the company’s ‘Bespoke’ service which enables owners to tailor the interior design and layout to their personal preferences. This flexible approach has contributed to thewide array of international awards and recognition Sunseeker has received for its 100ft+ range over the years, ever since the debut 105 Yacht became the first British-built production boat to win two of the world’s most prestigious accolades – the International Superyacht Design awards. Sunseeker is constantly setting new standards and benchmarks across its entire range. With the arrival of new CEO Phil Popham earlier this year, and the strong financial backing and support of its strategic shareholder Wanda Group, the company has ambitious plans to strengthen its position as the number one global brand for luxury performance motor yachts. The company currently builds more boats 80ft and above per year than any other brand. Viking Pirate Cove Billfish Tournament

In the end, Sea I Sea's lead was insurmountable. After jumping ahead on day three, Don Mills' Sea I Sea held off a fleet of nearly 60 boats. The Viking 66, run by captain Rob Mahoney released 15 billfish to take the top honors. Captain Ryan Higgins, at the helm of the Viking 70, put angler Patrick Healey on a dolphin that weighed in at a hefty 63.6 pounds on the scale earning the title of Top Dolphin.

Viking MidAtlantic

Big crowds gathered in the late afternoons at the MidAtlantic's two weigh stations to admire the gorgeous fleet while hoping to see a big money fish hit the scale. Thomas McMurray and his crew on the Viking 70 Makara kept the crowds happy. On day three the striking Makara weighed a 566 pound blue marlin to claim the Heaviest Blue Marlin of the tournament. Captain Walter Harmstead put the Viking 70 Goin' In Deep on the leader board with a 138 pound big eye boosting the team to Most Points Tuna while the Viking 60 Placid C's took Third in the Most Points Tuna category. Adam La Rosa's Viking 48 Canyon Runner weighed a 199 pound big eye to capture Second Heaviest Tuna of the event.

Viking White Marlin Open

Viking dominated the leader board at the world famous 42nd Annual White Marlin Open last week. Topping the board was Larry Hesse and his team on the Viking 70 Goin' In Deep with a 551 pound blue marlin. Angler Larry Hesse, Jr., boated the blue on the first day of the WMO and it held on through the five day event to claim Top Blue Marlin amongst the fleet of 307 boats. Jay Mascaro, fishing on the Viking 47 Warden Pass, also found his payday on the first day of the event. Jay landed a 45 pound 'hoo to take the top spot in that category. Viking 52 Miss Annie did the opposite and hit the board on the last day with the final fish weighed of the event. Miss Annie angler Mark Donahue jumped to the top of the tuna category with a 200.5 pound big eye cementing the board for the year. The Viking 62 Tra Sea Ann took a spot with a 42 pound dolphin. Project: Privateer 84 Trawler

It is always an important time when a builder goes above that 24 meter size.  Dutch custom boat builder is not there yet, but with the project of the 84 Trawler it is surely setting its future to enter what is called the super yacht size.  The 84 Trawler continues what we have seen from Privateer in smaller sizes, for a steel build sea worthy explorer type vessel with a full displacement hull. The standard interior layout will offer a four double cabin layout accommodation with two crew cabins aft.  Interesting the standard plan offers the owners room forward which will have two shower heads. An utility room is located to starboard side below deck. The main deck offers a saloon, dining and galley areas, with the raised pilot house up six steps offering a central helm station and a dinette.

New Model: Galeon 500 Fly

Impressive is how Galeon turned around its stakes in recent years, and became one of the innovators, and this is not an accident since the Polish builder keeps on bringing important design first in each new model it launches.  The introduction summary on Galeon website say the 500 Fly has no equal in yachting today, and on this we have all to agree. Transformation of exterior spaces have been coming since some years, and if my memory is serving right the first in this regard was the 2006 launched Mediterraneo 50 Continental from Italy and its side opening bulkheads becoming bathing platforms.  Obviously Galeon takes much further steps to that, also thanks to the opening of  flybridge side doors on what usually are windows, creates an unseen single level of entertainment from mid to the aft deck.  But Galeon does not stop there and also reinvents the fore deck of its new sixteen meter motor yacht.  I am sure some questions will be asked to Galeon about the structural integrity of all this, and how the bonding of the large windows copes in couple of years of usage.  But till this moment we can just admire the Galeon 500 Fly and the innovation it brings to the World of motor yachting.

New Model: Ferretti 550

Ferretti has launched the first 550, the new model of the well-known brand, marking its return to the flybridge yachts production under 60 feet in length.  When the first 55 feet hull was set afloat at the Cesenatico quay, powerful feelings of pride stirred up in all Ferretti’s personnel of the shipyard in Forlì, where the yacht was built. Interior and exterior fit-out, as well as all technical testing - i.e. certification test approval by RINA performance tests, checking of all on-board equipment and systems - will be completed within the next few weeks. Although just set afloat, the new 55-footer by Ferretti Yachts already enjoys a commercial success: three units have already been sold way ahead of its official world premier at Cannes 2015 show, slated in Côte d’Azur coming September. This is yet another proof that Ferretti Yachts 550 has already captured the international yachting market.  While the first yacht is just about to be delivered to her French Owner, the second Ferretti Yachts 550 has been sold in the Principality of Monaco. A third unit was bought by a Dutch Owner.

Project: Cranchi 60 Fly

Cranchi is preparing itself for the closing of the 2015 season with a couple of important novelties.  The 60 Fly was presented as a project to clients and dealers of the Italian company in Spring and is a further evolution of the 58 model, with important changes both outside and inside.  The most distinct visible change outside is the large side glass surface on the hull, and the settee on the fore deck. Inside the 60 Fly also features important layout changes some being more surprising then others. The  most surprising is the galley on the main deck which in the new 60 Fly has been moved to port side of the central helm station from astern.  Below decks we have two important changes from the owners midships cabin which has been redesigned with the bed now looking to aft, and a third guest head being added to port-side.

New Model: Cantiere Delle Marche 107 Darwin

Cantiere delle Marche continue to launch exceptional Explorer Yacht and here they are present the current new flagship the 107 Darwin.  Weighing just over three hundred tons, and built in steel and aluminium for the super structure, this is the acclaimed Darwin Class range from Cantiere delle Marche. This new flagship confirms the ongoing strength of the Ancona shipyard, the world leader in the market of displacement yachts in steel and aluminum. The shipyard marks a new success with the first delivery of a vessel over one hundred feet. In fact, thanks to this delivery, CDM starts a series of launches all above 100 feet, having under construction two Darwin Class 102', one Nauta Air 108', one Nauta Air 111'. 107 Darwin meets the usual technical characteristics on which the worldwide success of this range is founded. In terms of style, Darwin 107' has absorbed all the updates introduced on the new Darwin 86 and 102 which include a more balanced longitudinal profile for a more contemporary style, increased window surfaces, lowered gunwale for a closer contact with the sea. From the technical point of view, the Darwin 107 is the direct development of smaller models and takes into account the feed-back from the navigation experience of the six preceding models that already sailed thousands of miles.

New Model: Sanlorenzo 460EXP

Sanlorenzo celebrated last week the launch of the first explorer unit of its range, a superyacht characterized by high technology and comfort on board, and most of all, significant cruising self sufficiency and endurance. 460EXP is a 460 gross-tonnage super yacht of 42,2 meters in length, with a displacement hull in steel and an aluminum superstructure. She has five decks and, like every Sanlorenzo in over fifty years, was built according to the highest construction standards, with special attention given to the elegance of the design. The 460EXP external lines are strong and imposing and they evoke the big exploration ships that cruise in remote and unknown areas. The superstructure is shifted forward, leaving vast space on the main deck astern where a large tender up to ten meters, water-toys, sailing or fishing boats, surf boards, etc. can be housed while cruising. When at anchor and free of equipment, the main deck of the 460EXP becomes a wide solarium featuring, on this specific unit, a large and heated “endless swimming pool” in which guests can swim against an artificial current. The lower deck welcomes a beach-club with a bar and, thanks to the fully open-able stern, it becomes an additional and exclusive terrace on the sea. The interior layout includes 5 guest cabins on the lower deck, a fitness room, a large owner’s suite and 2 spacious salons on the main and upper deck. The crew cabins and service areas are large and comfortable, something not always found in yachts of similar size. An under lower deck linking the crew accommodation to the engine room provides the laundry space and storage necessary for long range cruising. Performance wise, the 460EXP is capable of covering over 4000 nautical miles autonomously at an economical speed of 11 knots, thanks to twin CAT 1319hp engines. Sanlorenzo 460EXP will be unveiled on September 23rd on the occasion of the Monaco Yacht Show 2015.

Project: Yachting Developments 38.7 m Sportfisher

New Zealand shipyard Yachting Developments is proud to announce the signing of a new order for a 37.8m sportsfisher superyacht. Known as Hull 1015, this is the second super yacht project signed by the shipyard in twelve months, and follows on from the order of 33.5m sloop Hull 1012 in September 2014.  With the contract signed in July 2015, work on Hull 1015 will commence immediately with delivery set for 2017. Naval architecture and exterior design is by Michael Peters design, with interior styling by New Zealand-based Below Decks Marine Interiors. Project management will be undertaken by Australian-based Motor Yacht Build. Constructed entirely from carbon the yacht is being built for an experienced owner, who is an international sportsfisherman. The owner approached the yard due to a number of factors, including their expertise in carbon and experience with similar projects. Hull 1015 will be the second sportsfisher project the yard has worked on, following the 2012 launch of 27.4m Satu. Hull 1015 will commence construction alongside 33.5m hull 1012, which is now over half way complete, in Yachting Developments new state of the art shipyard facility. In addition to their superyacht work, 2015 has seen the yard launch two smaller new build projects: 37ft Anarchy, designed by Bakewell-White Yacht Design, and 36ft IMK-7, designed by Reichel-Pugh. The yard also has a busy refit order book with projects including the refit of the 22m iconic Kiwi yacht Windhaven, as well as residential and commercial projects including the composite roofing for a new luxury golf course.

Jo Nunez 1971 - 2015

Following a vision set forth by his widely respected father Pantera Boats founder Pepe Nuñez, Jo Nuñez blended decades of powerboat design, construction and racing experience with his love for motor sports competition such as motocross and NHRA Pro Stock drag racing to enrich brand recognition and carry on an esteemed family legacy. Sadly Jo, 44, passed away following complication with advance stage IV thymus cancer.  The recent backbone of the company in Hialeah, Florida, that was established in 1974 by Pepe and Linda Nuñez, Jo is survived by his mother and father; his sister, Barbara; his wife, Yvette, and their son, Jo. Throughout his career Jo built dozens of boats from 24 to 41 feet, set endurance records, won world championships and, most importantly, established a huge group of friends thanks to his deep-rooted passion for boating.

Project: Azimut 72 Flybridge

Azimut will go to Cannes with a new important model which should in the future replace the 70. Azimut is saying the 72 is totally new but a couple of important technical details as hull Vee dead-rise and beam seem to be identical to that of the out going 70. By the renderings so far shown the 72 seems to have a more big yacht feel, without forgetting the sporty lines associated with this model which is a heir to the top selling 68 Plus launched in 1999.  The long fore deck, and low profile curved flybridge all shout I am a sleek machine and know it. The 72 will feature a four double cabins arrangement for guests.  A two crew cabin berth should be located to aft. Power will come from twin MAN 1400hp engines which give top speeds up to 31 knots.

blogger - The Escape

Finally many boat owners will come to that time when the ropes are dropped in the water, and they escape from it all.  Escaping from the usual routine and finding a new adventure is what boating has always been about, and the basics are still there for all to get.
Truth is if you do this on ten or one hundred meters the principle is more or less the same, the way of doing it changes a lot. But boating is all about having contact with the water, the sea, and discovering new harbors and picturesque anchorages. Sometimes the small sizes offer more of this, then the bigger ones.  The bigger size though does offer the more creature comforts and abundance of luxury you get, which never go unobserved by the trained and untrained eye.
