Arcadia Yachts Greener Then Ever

Arcadia shipyard was the first to target eco-sustainability has restated its determination to reduce as far as possible the impact of its production on the ecosystem, starting with its futuristic production sites overlooking the Gulf of Sorrento. In the last few months, 612 solar panels totalling 1,200 square metres have been installed on the yard’s two facilities. As a result, Arcadia Yachts now produces 70% of its own energy requirement, or a total of around 250,000 kWh/year. The shipyard also has plans to increase the surface area covered by panels, as well as to improve the performance of the existing ones.

Beneteau Group and Volvo Penta Second Testing Phase

Volvo Penta and Groupe Beneteau have completed the second phase of their study into the key drivers that will help the boating industry shift toward more sustainable boating solutions in the future. The focus of the research was on the viability of hybrid-electric solutions as an option in what is predicted to be a multi-faceted boating future.  In 2023, the companies welcomed 120 boaters to participate in a bespoke trial that tested a hybrid-electric leisure boat concept. This unique project delivered feedback that will help transform the future of experiences on the water across both companies. Participants included stakeholders from across the leisure boating segment, with trials held at Volvo Penta’s Krossholmen facility in Sweden in June and the Cannes International Yachting Festival in France in September.  The study incorporated 240 hours of real-world trials and gathered precise, in-depth information on the market readiness of the unique hybrid-electric experience and what could attract boaters to adopt the technology.  “What we learned from this demo is that we can leverage unique technology features, with comfort in mind, as an enabler towards choosing more sustainable boating solutions,” said Johan Inden, President of the Marine Business Unit at Volvo Penta. “What impressed people most was the improved experience the hybrid-electric concept provides. Features like silent cruising; peaceful nights onboard with batteries in place of a generator; or Joystick Docking in electric mode which makes leaving or arriving on dock a silent and stress-free experience. This is what will motivate consumer behavior in future.”  Planning for the initiative began back in 2022, and participants ranged from beginner boaters to experts. Customers, dealers, boat builders, OEMs and media all took part, with stakeholders coming from far beyond both Volvo Penta’s and Groupe Beneteau’s networks. The testing spanned users of cabin cruisers, multihull vessels, motor yachts, recreational trawlers and more, with the trial open to a wider database of end customer via social media, online event and email invitations – as well as walk-on participants at Cannes.  Ages ran the full gamut from under 25 to over 65, with a split of men and women from across Europe and as far as Brazil and Australia. The study was designed and executed in conjunction with Swedish company Detector, an independent market research and consulting organization.  When asked what their primary motivation was for joining the testing, the group cited three main aspects: more silent boating experiences, the potential for reduced carbon footprints and exploring new technologies.

CRN Sup-Y Wins 2023 Boat Builder Award

The Sustainable Powered Yacht (SuP-Y) project by CRN has won in the “Supply Chain Collaboration – Superyachts” category at the prestigious 2023 BOAT BUILDER AWARDS. This success was the fruit of an excellent team effort between the Ferretti Group Superyachts Division, the Weichai Power Science & Technology Division and RINA Services SpA. The honour was presented on Thursday 16 November at a gala evening in the magnificent setting of the National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam at a gathering of the leading lights in the nautical world.  This accolade for CRN – a Ferretti Group brand specialising in the design, engineering and construction of superyachts of up to 90 metres – reaffirms its commitment to breaking new ground in the field of sustainable maritime applications, underlining the proactive approach to integrating sustainable energy sources into its vessels. The award also shows how CRN continues to operate at the cutting edge, leading the way in bringing sustainable technologies into the nautical world.  One aspect that particularly impressed the judges was the collaboration and the R&D coordinated effort of Ferretti Group Superyacht Division with Weichai Power Science & Technology Division and RINA Service SpA. The technical board, composed by the CRN Engineering team, the authoritative fuel cell experts at Weichai-Ballard and the quality-certification specialists at RINA Service SpA, led to the development of a certified sustainable energy architecture for future superyacht builds. The project comes at a time when the environmental credentials of the large-yachts sector have been called into question, so an approach that can quantifiably reduce overall emissions is an objective improvement in environmental standards.  In terms of the specifics, the sustainable architecture provides for the installation of an innovative fuel cell system, powered with “green methanol”, aboard CRN superyachts, meeting all efficiency and safety requirements. To that end, CRN developed two architectures for two dedicated naval platforms: an 11.5-metre platform with hybrid propulsion for 60- to 70-metre yachts, and a 14.2-metre platform with diesel/electric propulsion for 75- to 90-metre yachts.  Both architectures feature a PEM fuel cell system as an alternative energy source powered by hydrogen reformed from green methanol, optimised to predefined range and performance levels. This provides several days at “full-hotel” without firing up the diesel generators, offering zero-emissions cruising for several hours, with an autonomy depending on the speed set by the captain. This approach significantly reduces overall emissions in line with the strictest eco standards.  Organised by IBI, the reference magazine for the global leisure marine industry, and by METSTRADE, the world’s largest trade exhibition of marine equipment, materials and systems, in partnership with Raymarine, the Boat Builder Awards celebrate companies, teams and individuals working in the international pleasure boating and superyacht sector that excel in crucial areas from innovation and collaboration to sustainability, talent and marketing.  The new technology at the heart of SuP-Y is a major step forward towards the future of yachting, with an easy-to-use solution that meets all the regulatory requirements for safety at sea.

CRN Wins ISS Design and Leadership Awards

CRN m/yY Ciao, a full-custom all-aluminium yacht by CRN, has triumphed at the prestigious ISS Design and Leadership Awards in the Best in Motor <500 GT (above 24m) category. The honour was presented on Thursday 26 October at a gala evening in the elegant setting of the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Fort Lauderdale Beach at a gathering of the leading lights in the nautical world.  Now in its 33rd edition, these historic awards, the first in the yachting world, celebrate excellence in design, engineering and innovation.  A testament to the shipyard’s total dedication, its creativity and talent for innovation, ISS Design and Leadership Awards are given for the designs adjudged the most ground breaking not only for their naval architecture and engineering solutions but also for their aesthetics and the elegance of their lines. As well as reflecting CRN’s superlative design and build quality, this accolade underlines the shipyard’s unrivalled ability to turn an owner’s vision and brief into reality. The features that especially impressed the jury include the taut, svelte lines, the vertical bow and the continual interplay between the internal and external spaces. The generous windows were admired for the glorious natural light that brings out the vivid splashes of colour that are such a feature of the furnishings and materials. On the technical side, the judges also praised the clever use of the open-air garage to keep the yacht under 500 GT, as well as the excellent handling of space to enhance the on-board entertainment experience for the owner and guests.  This 52-metre vessel was designed and built by CRN, which also developed the entire naval architecture. The yard partnered with architecture and design studio Omega Architects, who conceived the external lines, and architects Massari Design, who created all the spacious outdoor guest areas and the well-lit interiors.  Creativity, passion, experience, originality and uniqueness: these are the key elements that go into making every CRN superyacht. The quality shines through in every aspect, from the virtuoso craftsmanship and in-depth technical know-how to the meticulous attention to detail. Recognised for its innovative naval architectures and advanced engineering solutions, CRN specialises in designing exclusive, tailor-made, one-off yachts – perfect fusions of ideas, expertise and professionalism.  At 52 metres long and 9 metres in the beam, this 5-deck yacht has a gross tonnage of 499 GT. She accommodates up to 10 guests in the sumptuous main-deck owner suite and 4 VIP cabins on the lower deck. There are also 6 cabins for the 11 crew.  CRN m/y Ciao reflects the character of a knowledgeable owner with a passion for the sea. He was particular about the social zones, requiring roomy, comfortable open-air spaces linked with fluid precision to the large, luminous interiors. The magnificent outdoor areas – like the two palatial lounges with sunbathing area and pool, one on the sun deck and the other on the main deck, or the ample al-fresco dining area on the upper deck – are conceived as multipurpose convivial spaces for enjoying the open-air life to the full in intimate touch with the sea.  CRN m/y Ciao is a product of creative design, flexible thinking and state-of-the-art technology, a superb example of the Ancona yard’s supreme construction expertise.

Fairline Takes Designer of the Year at the Boat Builder Awards 2023

Christian Gott, lead concept designer at British luxury motor yacht manufacturer Fairline, has been announced as Designer of the Year at this year’s Boat Builder Awards at METSTRADE in Amsterdam.  Up against stiff competition with innovative designers from Rand Boats, TYDE and HH Catamarans also shortlisted, Christian took home the award after being recognised for driving the styling of the brand’s latest models. This includes the Squadron 68 launched in 2022, the Phantom 65 the same year and the new Squadron 58 launched at this year’s Southampton International Boat Show. The Targa 40 which makes its world debut at Boot Düsseldorf in January, joins the Squadron 58 as ground-up firsts for Christian and his concept design team.  Award judges commented: “Our final decision was influenced by our winner’s rise through the ranks of Fairline. In 14 years, he progressed from a boatbuilder apprentice who studied for a design degree on his own initiative to being appointed as Lead Concept Designer. He is now responsible for styling the company’s latest launches – including the impressive Squadron 58.”  The awards, which have recognised business achievement since 2015 are run by IBI and METSTRADE and take place annually at the National Maritime Museum during the trade show. The awards recognise the significant contributions of individuals, teams and supply chain partners within boat building companies globally.  James Powell, Sales Director at Fairline said: “Nurturing talent is part of Fairline’s DNA and we’re delighted to see Christian’s hard work get the recognition it deserves. Christian has been such an integral part of our design evolution while remaining true to Fairline’s roots and bringing an unprecedented vision of where we go next.  “The development of the all-important connection to the water is Christian’s focus. We know our customers want to be on the water in every capacity, the more connection you can have the better, whether that’s inside the boat with large glazing or outside, enjoying the entertaining space of a large cockpit or flybridge.”  Christian said of the award win: “To be recognised for the work I’m so passionate about is fantastic and I’d like to thank those who were part of the judging process and congratulate the others shortlisted in this category.  “Fairline’s are always classic in design, you can look at a Fairline that’s 20 years old and a brand new one and easily tell they are both clearly Fairline. The design evolution over recent years has been ensuring those key Fairline design features like our hull windows on every model have a signature shape. Within each of our model ranges there are subtle differences, but within each range it remains clear they are families of boats and I’m proud of our work to ensure that the Fairline DNA still shines through.”  Fairline will be making the world debut of the all-new Targa 40 and the European debut of the Squadron 58 at this year’s Boot Düsseldorf. Its UK and European network of dealers will be represented at the stand in Hall 6, Location D59, together with key personnel from Fairline’s factory teams, including Christian.

Ferretti Group Second Edition of Scuola dei Mestieri

After the success of the first edition held in spring, Ferretti Group kicks off the second edition of the Scuola dei Mestieri project, starting on November 13 in Forlì. The aim is to train specialised workers (deck fitters and carpenters) to recruit for luxury yacht production, not least at the soon-to-open Ravenna production facility.  The three-month course, totalling 500 hours of training, is for 18 to 29-year-olds who want to start a career in the high-end Italian yacht industry. Lessons will be held by technical experts, including former yard managers and line foremen.  After the first edition in Forlì and subsequent launch at the Mondolfo and Sarno plants, the Group’s objective for this second edition is to focus on the recently acquired Ravenna yard, aiming to grow the workforce in view of the upcoming opening. The students on the course are, in fact, based both in Ravenna and Forlì.  The Scuola dei Mestieri is not based on simple extra-curricular apprenticeship but provides professional training courses that combine both theory and on-the-job experience in the shipyard.  The theoretical part of the course is structured as follows: an overview of materials and composites technology and a section on engineering, from construction principles to the types of systems found on boats, with a special focus on the different types of semi-finished products and on planning outfitting operations. The practical part of the course, in collaboration with Cnos FA Forlì, takes place initially in a wood workshop, before moving to the Shipyard.  Including the Forlì edition, a total of over 50 apprentices could be hired by Ferretti Group shipyards.  Ferretti Group announced: “The outstanding skills of our workforce are the real strength of the Made in Italy yacht industry and of Ferretti Group: a unique combination of talent, experience and know-how that only we can offer the world. That is why the Scuola dei Mestieri is of paramount importance, because we want to open our doors to young workers and give them the skills and expertise to maintain the inimitable standards of excellence that set us apart. We expect to identify new professionals who are the right fit for our shipyards, establishing a lasting and profitable working relationship.”

Hatteras Lays Off Eighty Workers

Hatteras Yachts has laid off approximately 80 workers this past week at its New Bern plant in North Carolina, USA. Bass Pro, which acquired Hatteras Yachts through White River Marine Group in 2021, stated that the cutbacks were driven in part by the "current economic environment", but that every effort was being taken to "support [its] people" as the yard continues to navigate the uncertainty of the market. The news comes two years after White River Marine Group announced plans to open a new coastal manufacturing centre in New Bern with a target to create 500 jobs in Craven County. The company said it would continue to support and grow Hatteras Yachts onsite, while also moving its existing MAKO and Ranger saltwater brands under the same roof. “With Hatteras’ rich heritage of craftsmanship and access to some of the world’s best offshore angling, our aim is to help solidify New Bern as the world’s capital for saltwater gamefish and boat building,” Bass Pro CEO Johnny Morris said at the time. Bass Pro later stated that even after the layoffs, Hatteras Yachts "continues to employ considerably more people than when [the shipyard] was first acquired by White River Marine Group in May 2021." "Our plan is to continue to invest boldly, as we have done over the last few years, in the future of the legendary Hatteras brand," Bass Pro said in a statement. "Last week at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, we were proud to announce plans for a totally new generation of high-performance Hatteras sportfishing boats that will be built in New Bern, North Carolina. We are optimistic that employment at the Hatteras plant will continue to grow as the next generation of high-performance Hatteras boats is brought online." According to Bass Pro, the new sportfishing line will be officially introduced in late 2024.

Nordhavn Convoy in Sea of Cortez

A convoy of Nordhavns, led by a Nordhavn 57 and comprising of crews manned with members of the brand’s design, project and sales teams departed Dana Point, CA Wednesday for an extended cruise through international waters. No, this isn’t the Nordhavn Atlantic Rally part 2 – though there’s no denying the common threads that run between the two trips. It’s the Nordhavn Convoy to the Sea of Cortez, a two-week cruise throughout Mexico’s Baja California peninsula, where five Nordhavns are kicking off a post-Thanksgiving sojourn that is certain to initiate a relaxed countdown to the end of 2023. “It’s been a couple of very busy years for us,” said Jim Leishman, vice president of Nordhavn/Pacific Asian Enterprises (PAE) who will be piloting the company Nordhavn 57. “I want this trip to be all about fun.”  In addition to the N57 are two Nordhavn 80s, an N63 and N68. The group will wind its way around Mexico’s secluded cruising grounds known for their vibrant sea life, making several stops along the route. The crews will provide updates on their trip with photos, video and log posts.  With just five boats participating, the fleet is considerably smaller than that of the NAR. Still, it’s easy to see how this Sea of Cortez convoy harkens back to the Atlantic Rally, where a Nordhavn 57, also helmed by Jim Leishman and other PAE staff, led a group of boats that included 15 Nordhavns across the Atlantic Ocean in a stunning two-month, trans-oceanic cruise. The similarities between this Convoy and the record-breaking event in 2004, which is coming upon its 20-year anniversary in June, is not lost on Leishman and he is happy to give a nod to it. But just a nod.  Whereas the NAR was comprised of a far more rigorous and complicated route and itinerary with endless stresses about the welfare of so many boats in the middle of the ocean, the Sea of Cortez Convoy will have a much more relaxed air about it. Additionally, the NAR was almost entirely about business. This trip is strictly (mostly strictly) about pleasure.  “We’re no different from any other buyer out there who just wants to jump on their Nordhavn and go,” said Jim’s son, James Leishman, a broker who this year has led the way in bringing about the company’s most productive sales activity in over a decade. James will join his dad, his uncle, Chief of Design, Jeff Leishman, Jeff’s son Drew, project manager of the Nordhavn 41 and 51, as well as longtime project manager Justin Zumwalt. James, Jim and Justin were also all aboard the N57 Atlantic Escort during the NAR nearly two decades ago.  The N57 leading the charge this time around is Grande, the boat that Jim and Jeff Leishman purchased with partner Dan Streech this past spring. Grande will be a safety net per se for two brand new Nordhavn 80s – hull #3 was delivered only a couple of weeks ago – who are eager to start their major cruising in Mexico. They’ll also be alongside N63 True Blue and N68 Dragon, both with considerable miles under their keels but who jumped at the chance to join in the revelry.  Other PAE staffers will be participating on the trip. Jim’s son Eric Leishman a Nordhavn broker, PAE media arts specialist Doug Harlow, and Dan Streech’s son Trever Streech, whose company Prime Fabrications designs stainless components on Nordhavns will crew aboard the Nordhavn 8003. They’ll be joined by west coast Commissioning Manager Brian Leishman and boat technician Bret Leishman elsewhere in the fleet.  Instead of stops in Bermuda, the Azores and Gibraltar, this group will visit Ensenada, Turtle Bay, Magdalena Bay, Cabo San Lucas, La Paz and Laredo. James Leishman calls this part of the Pacific a still mainly undiscovered gem for cruising. It’s not quite crossing an ocean, but, he says, “you’ve got to have a boat like a Nordhavn to get there.”

Sunreef Natural Fibre Composites

Sunreef Yachts Eco is a holistic concept reassessing every aspect of the yachting experience to make it more energy efficient and responsible. The shipyard’s R&D department is currently implementing natural fiber composites to take another big step toward a sustainable yacht-building process.  Natural fiber composites (NFC) implemented by Sunreef Yachts Eco, use flax fiber to obtain composite structures of the highest quality and excellent mechanical characteristics. The high-quality fiber is paired with bio-based or recyclable resin to create solid and reliable natural composites.  Flax fabrics demonstrate a negative CO2 footprint, due to the absorption of CO2 during the plant growth. On top of that, Sunreef Yachts Eco natural composites can be recycled. This process involves the extraction of both the resin and the fiber, in order to give both materials a new life.  The flax fabrics can be woven into countless patterns and can be dyed into an endless variety of colors. The Sunreef shipyard’s R&D department has integrated Natural Fiber Composites (NFC) into the interior and exterior design offerings, marking another significant stride toward a sustainable yacht-building process.

Viking Record Breaker

Captain Chris Moward and the crew on Scott Crump’s Viking 55 Best Trait were enjoying a day of fun fishing in the Gulf of Mexico when the bite that everyone dreams of hit. The blue marlin was hooked near an oil rig approximately 110 miles south of Orange Beach, Alabama. It ate a live blackfin tuna and took two hours to boat. The fish measured a massive 145.75” inches from bottom of jaw to fork of the tail – and had a 62” wide tail. At the scale, it clocked in a 1,145.6 pounds. While waiting on verification, this monster blue unofficially broke the Gulf of Mexico AND Alabama state records.  Angler Scott “Scooter” Anderson said, “It really hasn’t sunk in yet. The trip wasn’t going our way then we reorganized ourselves. The rest is history.”
“Running out of places to pinch myself,” said Captain Chris. “I’ve been dreaming of a fish like this my entire life.”

Viking Wins Los Cabos

The team fishing aboard The Daddy Rabbit, a Viking 58, has been crowned as the 2023 Los Cabos Billfish Tournament champions. Captain Angel Agundez Sandez, behind the wheel of owner/angler Dennis Hoods’ boat, released an incredible 140 striped marlin in three days. Meshuga Fish, a Viking 68 led by captain Jeffrey Stolarz, claimed 3rd Place honors with 110 striped marlin and one blue.  C- Student, a Viking 72, weighed the Heaviest Dolphin at the Bisbee’s Los Cabos Offshore. Ian Megarity’s fish registered 50.2 pounds on the scale. The 2nd Place Tuna went to Mike Wells and his 149-pound yellowfin. He was fishing on the Viking 62 Chasin’ Tail.

Viking Marlin Lady Anglers

As big supporters of the fishing community, Viking teamed up with Marlin magazine, Pelagic and Bucked Up energy drinks to create the Marlin Lady Angler Team, a group of accomplished anglers that bonded and fished together this past season.  “The goal of the Marlin Lady Angler team is to help create more awareness of female anglers in competitive tournaments around the world,” says Marlin magazine publisher Natasha Lloyd. “We are thrilled that Viking Yachts jumped on board to help support us with this vision. We are looking forward to 2024 and having this team fish more events to showcase the amazing females of our sport.”  Nine prestigious women in the marine industry, each with diverse fishing abilities and a shared passion for the sport made up the group. Team members Shelby Callison and Dusty Adinolfe have extensive familiarity with the Viking product. Dusty is a dedicated philanthropist, proficient international tournament angler and proud owner of the Viking 80 Surf Bum. Both Dusty and her husband are looking forward to the delivery of their Viking 72 and Valhalla 41.   Shelby is the Sales Coordinator and Office Manager for the Florida location of Valhalla Boat Sales and a highly accomplished angler. She was named this year’s Top Lady Angler at the Buccaneer Cup Sailfish Release Tournament and The Billfish Foundation’s 2022 Top Tagging Lady Angler in South Florida.  Throughout the competition, these ladies demonstrated resilience in the face of challenging conditions. And each team member persevered in high spirits and learned invaluable lessons. Dusty said, “As the senior angler on the team, I brought a wealth of life’s lessons and insight. It's clear that the camaraderie and support system encouraged each member, regardless of age or experience, to learn new things both about fishing and life in general.”

Viking Dealer Acquired

Germain Motor Company a fourth-generation family business founded in 1947, announced that it acquired SI Yachts. Previously known as Staten Island Yacht Sales, SI Yachts was founded in 1964 by Frank Bongiorno, who established what has become the longest-operating Viking dealer. Frank plans to enjoy a well-deserved retirement after more than 60 years. “We couldn’t imagine a more perfect opportunity and partnership to carry on the legacy of Frank, first started in 1964,” SI Vice President Jay Hendrix said in a statement. “The resources, technology and team that Germain has is a complement to what we are building at SI Yachts.” Germain’s acquisition of SI Yachts comes two years after CEO and partner Zach Germain established Germain Yachts.

New Model: Azimut Magellano 60

Azimut Magellano 60 was first presented during the twelfth Azimut Yachting Gala 2023 in Toarmina, Sicily with the official World debut following a couple months later in  Cannes.  The Magellano 60, is the latest in Azimut crossover line which debuted in 2009 with the revolutionary 74 model, a line designed for owners who want longer voyages full of adventure.  This eighteen meter yacht is also today the new entry level in Azimut Magellano explorer yacht range, presented in a new size for the line.  Sure some might say it replaces the 53 model, but if one would go onboard the Magellano 60, this new model stands out more as a smaller 66, also for the large spaces on board, generous without compromising the elegance of Ken Freivokh's lines. The cockpit is configured as a natural extension of the large lounge on the Main Deck and the stern transforms into a terrace capped with a transparent parapet that creates an Infinity Terrace overlooking the water that offers a navigation experience in complete harmony with nature and the sea. The crossover soul of the Magellano 60 is also through the efficiency Dual Mode semi-planning, now into its eight hull, which allows navigation at low speeds in total comfort but also to handle higher speeds by attenuating the impact of the waves and optimizing consumption and emissions. As is usual to Azimut looking forward never stops and the Magellano 60 was also the yacht chosen by the Italian yacht builder for the first test voyage powered by HVOlution biofuel, produced by Eni Sustainable Mobility with 100% renewable raw materials.  The tests carried out by Azimut in the summer of 2023 recorded exceptional results in terms of compatibility and performance, with a reduction in CO2 emissions of more than 80% compared to a yacht of comparable size powered by fossil diesel.

New Launch: Jarrett Bay 64 Sportfisherman Hull #65

Jarrett Bay Boatworks has delivered the latest evolution of their popular 64’ hull to owners with deep ties to the company since its inception nearly 37 years ago. The fifth custom boat to be commissioned by a family spanning three generations, Hull 65 has taken to the water with sleek styling and peak performance worthy of her force-to-be-reckoned, titled as m/y Rebelette as a nod to the owners’ allegiance to Ole Miss. Jarrett Bay has built many sportfish convertibles in the sixty-foot range over its history, but a series of recent 64 commissions have established this size as a signature length for it's custom fleet. Similar to every hull built before her, Rebelette was designed and built to the owner’s exact specifications and requests. Although the Alexseal Cloud White hull and top sides, along with the centreline helm station built into a peninsula console on the flying bridge, may resemble other recent Jarrett Bay builds, other likenesses are few in this latest launch. Hull 65 is the first new Jarrett Bay to be splashed with Caterpillar Marine’s latest propulsion technology, which has undergone hundreds of hours of strenuous testing on the Beaufort's custom builder 70 Sportfisherman hull 48, serving as the research and demo platform for Cat. With twin turbos on each engine, hull 65’s Cat engines are rated at 2,025hp and are complimented by the Three60 Precision Control joystick system. Jarrett Bay 64 Sportfisherman Hull#65 sea trials did not disappoint with smooth rides found at both an efficient cruise of 37 knots, with wide open speeds pushing 44 knots. Additionally, these CAT powerplants were extremely responsive in manoeuvring her loaded weight of over 35 tons as nimbly as vessels a fraction of her weight.

Posillipo New Web Site

Posillipo presents its new web site.  Posillipo was founded in 1942, although before these years it was called first Posillipo of Gallotti, of Marcello Pane, and then of Turrini, these names representing the names of the master builder who were managing the boat yard located near the caves of Posillipo to the West of Naples, where in reality boat repair and building have existed since decades if not centuries before.  In 1950 the shipyard of Posillipo was acquired by Doctor. Casa and Count Giovanni of Campello who will start serial model production in 1951, launching its first production model the Positano runabout speed boat in 1952.  In 1960 Posillipo will move to a larger dedicated production facility and boat yard in Sabaudia, in province of Latina, some seventy nautical miles from the place which gave the name to the brand, and what will be its home till 2012.  In 1969 Posillipo will launch the Aruba 25 model, its first fiberglass construction. Posillipo will make the seventies a mixed decade building both in wood and fiberglass, and moving slowly to full production in the new plastic material method by around 1979.  In 1972 following financial difficulties Posillipo is taken over by GEPI; Gestioni e Partecipazioni Industriali, a Public Finance founded by the Italian government that helps valid industries restructure. This restructuring is followed by the launch of the Costaguta designed Tobago 47 and Martinica 42 models in the fall of 1973, a high moment for Posillipo with the flagship of the time 47 Tobago model being its best selling to date fibreglass model.  Posillipo will hire Giovanni Zuccon in 1978, who will design the forward thinking Technema range onwards from 1978, starting with the futuristic 65 model which debuted in that year, and ending with the second generation 65 which launched in 2002. The Zuccon designed Technema line will launch some innovative models, but probably it's most important is the 52, which was a sixteen meter flybridge yacht destined to shape the future of things to come in motor yacht design.  In 1990 the USA Nouri Group, lead by Dennis Michael Nouri falls in love and buys Posillipo, only to re-enter financial difficulties towards the end of 1991 due to the luxury boat tax by both the Italian and USA governments, with Gianfranco Rizzardi taking over the brand in the start of 1993.  Posillipo will close in 2012, when the Inrizzardi Group enters financial difficulties, and reopens again in 2016.  Today Posillipo is offering two models; the 90 which was updated from the 2009 presented unit in 2022, and the upcoming 78.  Posillipo new website takes you around with the following buttons; Company Info, Privacy Policy, and Cookies Policy.

Project: Cheoy Lee CLB80

After launching the CLB65, the entry-level model in the B-Series, Cheoy Lee CL Yachts has made a strategic move to fill the void between CLB72 and the B-Series CLB88 flagship with the introduction of the CLB80 project. An enclosed bridge pocket super yacht of just over 24 meters in length, and just under eighty tons of displacement the CLB80 is designed by Jozeph Forakis, who was entrusted with the mission of preserving the brand's distinctive DNA while also infusing the overall concept with a more streamlined and sporty aesthetic. Throughout this creative process, particular emphasis has been placed on enhancing onboard comfort rather than focusing solely on raw performance. The exterior of CLB80 showcases a refreshing and contemporary aesthetic, blending modern elements with the hallmark features that define the brand’s, and the B-series, identity. One distinctive aspect that sets this model apart is the evolution of the unique stepped side windows. These carefully crafted windows not only infuse a modern touch but also enhance visibility, allowing natural light to flood into the living spaces. The CLB80 is to be offered with an aft or forward galley, and single or double fly and main deck helm station choices. These choices compliment a four double cabins lower deck, which features a separate entry VIP suite forward. Two crew cabins are located aft.  CL yachts has not announced any speeds and engine options for the CLB80 but expect speeds in the mid-twenties.

Fabbrica Italiana Motoscafi also known with the acronym of FIM has debuted in the fall of 2023 its new 440 Regina model.  A sport cruiser of over eleven meters in length the 440 Regina fills the gap in between the 340 Regina which debuted the brand in 2021 and the 2022 introduced 470 flagship model.  The FIM 440 Regina like the smaller 340 and bigger 470 models is a surprise in the market presenting itself as a hybrid between a walk around day and cabin sport cruiser.  For the 440 Regina Fabbrica Italiana Motoscafi changes design duties bringing in Alessandro Lottici, a young designer from Brescia which debuted in 2018 with his aLot studio.  For the 440 Regina, Lottici brings a soft curved exterior but keeping inline with the smaller and bigger FiM models family design language. The interior is also design furnished by LDI a company from Rome, which presents a two plus two layout, with a forward U-shaped saloon which converts to a double berth, galley, head, and a spacious full beam midships master stateroom. In the exterior the FiM 440 Regina shines its best qualities in an all walk walkaround fore to aft deck, giving relaxing and lounging space features in all areas, with a large central wet-bar behind the centre console served by a central dinette further aft.  The FIM 420 Regina is also available with opening bulwarks which increase the space in the sun-pad and bathing platform area by about 40%. The FIM 440 Regina is powered by Volvo 410hp as standard with optional 440hp and or triple 400hp Mercury outboard petrol gas options also available.

Fairline Squadron Burns Down in Swansea Marina

A thirteen meter Fairline flybridge cruiser went ablaze while berthed at Swansea Marina, to the Southwest of Wales at 17:52 hours of Sunday nineteen November.  Five fire fighting crews from Swansea Central, Swansea West, Morriston, Gorseinon and Llanelli responded to the fire, taking about an hour to control and two hours to extinguish.  No one was injured in the fire, with the causes of the blaze reported as accidental, with the flybridge cruiser ending half sank, and her flybridge deck burned out.  A fire involving two small boats happened in the same Marina on the end of May of this year.
The Fairline in this fire is a 43 Squadron, a flybridge cruiser designed by Bernard Olesinski and produced from 1994 to 97.  Available in two or three cabins layout the 43 was the entry level Squadron, Fairline's flagship flybridge range which in that time arrived up to 65 foot.  The 43 Squadron came as a replacement of the 43 and was replaced by the Phantom 46 in 1999.

Unattended Flybridge Boat Ends Aground Near Alghero

An unattended flybridge boat of ten meters in length ended aground in between the waters of Bosa and Alghero to the West of Sardinia on Sunday nineteen November.  The boat was first reported by the Guardia Costiera, during a random patrol on Sunday afternoon, who then called assistance to the Vigili dell Fuoco, who intervened with a helicopter, in order to drop two specialized divers in the area.  Upon arriving on the boat, and following an inspection onboard the two divers found it to be unattended.  The Guardia Costiera is now looking to trace the ownership of the flybridge boat.
This abandoned grounded boat is a Rodman 1040 as released in the mid noughties.  The Rodman 1040 Adv is part of the fisherman cruiser line of boats of the Spanish boat builder. The 1040 Adv came out as an evolution of the 1040 with a different stern layout, with the model replaced by the 1090 Evolution Flybridge.

Ferretti Custom Line New Web Site

Ferretti Custom Line presents its new web site.  Custom Line was founded in 1996 by Carlo Moschini, Ottavio Caschino, with Norberto and Alessandro Ferretti joining some months later.  With the joining of Ferretti, Custom Line becomes the big 25 meters plus super yacht brand of Ferretti, and sets the first stage of the Ferretti Group creation.  In the beginning Ferretti Custom Line will build its first units at the Moschini shipyard in Fano, who at time was also building yachts and super yachts under its own Siar Moschini brand from 21 to 43 meters, but this ends prematurely in 1999 when Azimut-Benetti Group buys the shipyard.  In around 2000 Ferretti Custom Line will make a short production move at the Ferretti yard in Forli, and then sets up home at the Ancona Ferretti Group super yacht yard in 2002, where today it has five dedicated sheds in the 80,000 square-meters facility.  Ferretti Custom Line shows its first three projects, the 94, 106, and 112 in the end of 1996, with the smaller 94 launching in 1998, followed by the 112 in 2001, and the 106 remaining as a concept.  From 1998 up till today Ferretti Custom Line has build over three hundred super yachts from 26 to 42 meters, which makes it one of the most successful super yacht builders in this size segment.  From 1996 till 2018 all Custom Line have been designed by Giovanni Zuccon, Ferretti's main designer from 1990, with Francesco Paszkowski taking over the planning line with the 120 in 2017, and Filippo Salvetti the Navetta series from the second generation 30 in 2020. Today Custom Line offers eight models, three in the Planning and five from the Navetta line which start from the Navetta 30 and go up to the alloy build Navetta 50 project. The Custom Line latest model is the 140 which debuted in 2022, with the Navetta 38 project set to launch in 2024. Project: Azimut Grande 30M

Finally we are presented with some details of the Grande 30M project which was announced during Azimut yearly Cannes Yachting Festival press conference.  A new super yacht designed by Alberto Mancini, the Grande 30M will sit in between the top selling 27M and 32M models, and brings style cues in an evolutionary way from the 2022 launched 26M and 36M as designed by the same designer.  For the new Grande 30M Alberto Mancini presents a sporty profiled raised pilot house design with a semi-wide body main deck, and a unique fully flush upper deck with a full walk-around fore to aft and for the full length of the yacht.  The Grande 30M will also feature latest designs from Azimut Grande line, from the Deck2Deck Terrace which expands the aft deck when raising the garage hatch, to the Infinity Skydeck, and the Glass House with fully disappearing full-height windows transforming into a veranda open on three sides, establishing a union between the large aft lounge and the Infinity Pool which overlooks the sea off the bow.  The Grande 30M will feature interiors as designed by M2atelier of Marco Bonelli and Marijana Radovic, who for the Azimut-Benetti Group will create fluid and informal spaces set in a sustainable minimalism. No details of the layout are presented as yet but seeing the rendering above, expect a huge forward fore-deck master stateroom, and a four guest cabin below. The Grande 30M is also part of Azimut Low Emission Yachts, which today includes over half of the brands models guaranteeing a twenty to thirty per cent reduction in consumption and Co2 emissions, thanks to the use of carbon fibre, dedicated hull design for this efficiency and the use of pod propulsion.
