Sunseeker Yacht Sinks Near Andratx Mallorca

A sixteen meter Sunseeker flybridge yacht with five persons onboard partly sank as it was cruising near Camp de Mar, Andratx, to the South West of the Balearic Island of Mallorca at around 10:00 hours morning time of Saturday tenth August.  A larger yacht of about nineteen meters responded to the yachts distress call, with the Maritime Safety Agency and then the Police coming later.  The private yacht saved the five boaters which also included a German couple and a small child.  The boaters were transported to Port Adriano without any injuries.  According to Salvacion Maritimo saving the Sunseeker yacht was impossible, with the water entering the interior cabin area, and the yacht fully sinking at 17:00 local time.  The cause of the sinking is not reported, though locals advised that an unmarked underwater reef in the area is most likely the culprit.  No pollution was reported from the sinking, with the yacht owner advised he is responsible for a salvage operation.
The Sunseeker yacht in this sinking is a Manhattan 52 model as produced between 2016 to 2020 in 131 units.  The Manhattan 52 is considered as the most successful Sunseeker flybridge, selling the first fifty units in less to its first year.  The Manhattan 52 came out as a replacement to the Manhattan 55, and evolved into a Manhattan 55 with little detail changes in 2021.
