Best of 2023

Some supply chain normality starting coming back in 2023, which allowed for the arrival of  out of the box evolutionary thinking models to come from the popular and those less known names.  Obviously supply chain delays and disruptions have been a headache for all boat and yacht builders since 2020, that is why some of these models have been in waiting and delayed for a year, or two.  For example the 2023 best of the year was announced in 2020 for a 2021 launch but ended launching in late Summer 2022.  A similar story comes from Pershing's first GTX range model, project presented in 2020 for an end 2021 launch only for it to arrive in mid 2023, and Sunseeker's Superhawk 55 announced in 2021 to arrive a year later but then launching in early 2023.

PowerYacht best of 2023 is the Holterman X-treme 105. I could tell about the innovation of the X-treme 105, from its eleven meter record tender carrying ability on a 32 meter super yacht, to its twelve squared meters which holds nineteen tons of water aft deck swimming pool.  But the most important note in the best of 2023, is that you do not need to be a corporate giant to make a product, in this case a futuristic explorer looking super yacht, full of innovative features which stands out from the crowd.  You just need a buyer with a plan, a builder interested in building it, and designers who listen and transform dreams into reality.

The others.

Albemarle 53 Spencer Edition. It's the first ever custom to production sportfish builder collaboration. Albemarle largest ever build brings custom features and looks as an off the shelf available production product.

Arksen 85. A UK brand with cross-over marketing into Apparel, Overland, and Marine launches its biggest explorer super yacht. Fully custom build of aluminium this is serious globe trotting with a range up to six thousand nautical miles in 27 meters of size.

Centuno Navi Vespro 16.70m. Marco Arnaboldi is a naval architect ambassador to jet propulsion, re-enters yacht building with Centuno Navi in 2022. Vespro is the debut model of Marco's new firm, a 57 knots fast yacht with a futuristic T-top and an extendable aft deck.

Coronet 35 Suncruiser. Coronet is a pillar in motor boating history, and in this third re-start shows respect to its roots and 21 Daycruiser classic model.  No two without a three!

Ferretti InFynito 90. The first Ferretti InFynito makes a clever re-use and planning of the fore-deck, it's stand out feature covered-open area which gives privacy yet full views.

Fratelli Aprea Lancia 52. In English Lancia is a launch boat, as used by mercantile ships of days gone by to drop goods and people to land. Fratelli Aprea Lancia is a centre console-sport yacht hybrid, with the looks of a Gozzo, and the stern of a down-East lobster boat.

Pershing GTX116. Announced as TO project in 2020, the 35 meters GTX is a super sport yacht from Pershing which debuts a new range rethinking exterior spaces. The first GTX is also Ferretti's Group first Asymmetric yacht.

Riva 82 Diva. The name carries it's weight, that is why this new Riva looks your traditional flybridge pocket super yacht outside, but then re-invents the stern with a beach sunbathing area that extends space with side drop-down bulk-heads.

Legend Rethought. Sunseeker Superhawk 55. The Hawk range, which debuted in 1987 with the 37 Tomahawk, has been Sunseeker high performance range for sport-powerboat-cruisers able to reach fifty knots or more of top speed with the big gas-guzzling power option. Things change and after twelve different models and 36 years Sunseeker re-invent the Hawk as a day-entertainer. The biggest ever Hawk has smaller wings but a bigger belly.

PowerYacht wishes to all its followers, friends, readers, and visitors a Healthy and Prosperous 2024 year.

New Model: Holterman X-treme 105

Holteman X-treme 105 was one of the show stoppers for the 2022 Cannes boat show thanks mostly to its large tender storage system on the aft deck, able to accommodate a tender up to eleven meters in length.  Surely a record for a yacht measuring just over thirty meters!  But the records do not stop here, as remove the tender, and then you have an area, which drops down in the water, and fills a twelve squared meters swimming pool making this aft deck an exquisite unique entrainment lounging area. If you think this is over, it  is not!  The X-treme 105 designed by Bernard Weel for exterior and Diana as naval architect is not only about this, with the innovative looking tug from the future inspired super yacht which breaks some yacht design convenience rules, and thanks to this winning two awards by the end of 2022.  The X-treme 105 for example also brings the astern galley layout, so popular in yachts sub twenty meters in a 105 feet size, and also make redundancy its virtue thanks to its double systems, which also includes twin bow and stern thrusters, and four technical; electricity, water makers, generator, battery separate rooms.  Another interesting feature of the X-treme 105 is an easy engine take away system thanks to big hatches which makes a removal job done in a few hours, compared to a day or two of some other yachts.  Beside the aft deck able to accommodate the large ten meter tender, the X-treme 105 also features a side midships located garage with space for a rib tender of three and a half meters, and two jet bikes. That would be another record for tenders stowed in a yacht of 32 meters.  The Holterman X-treme 105 is an impressive machine in both its innovative and technical elements, with the markets noticing this and seven other X-treme units from sixteen to 32 meters being in build.

Best of 2022

2022 was a strange year, Covid-19 looked more like influenza second version, and finally we learnt to live with it without masks, and then humans continue to show the way of destruction with a war returning in central Eastern Europe after many years.  In the meantime the yachting World has been busy presenting new models; some innovative breaking the rule book, while others update what has been written before into the year.  Here is PowerYachtBlog 2022 favorites.

The Best of 2022 for PowerYacht is the new Sanlorenzo SP110.  Under Massimo Perotti Sanlorenzo has turned from a conservative name to become one of the most innovative thinkers in the motor yachting World. So how to build your first super sport yacht of 33 meters?  With a different design, and standing out from the rest with an un-edited vertical loft.  Sanlorenzo first super sport yacht, the SP110 has been four years or more in the making directed by a who's who list of people knowing a thing or two about making a class leading act.

The others.

Apreamare 45 Gozzo. The third and largest model of the Gozzo line which debuted in 2017 gives what the two previous smaller models missed, cruising accommodation with aplenty day cruising abilities.

Austin Parker 85 Ibiza. The largest ever build by the Italian builder, it is not sport yacht re-invented, more found again.  Looking like a massive centre console with its long big bow.

Benetti B.Yond 37m. There is a lot of important news in this semi custom triple deck super yacht. It was the last design from Stefano Righini, and a steel Benetti sub forty meters in many years.

Grand Banks EastBay 60. Its the first EastBay to come with Mark Richards efficient hull shape following nearly thirty years of Raymond Hunt bottoms.  Classic looks with range and efficiency, the EastBay 60 give this and more.

Jarrett Bay 56 Open Convertible hull #67. For decades custom sportfish builders offered the same style, but in the last ten or so years we have seen a change in this. This sixteen meter is a flybridge sportfish yacht with the feel of an express, from one of Carolina's most respected names.

Overmarine Mangusta 165 Rev. Igor Lebanov is renewing Mangusta successful sport yacht fleet, and here he renews the fifty meter flagship which sold twelve units in thirteen years.  The hull is the same, but the rest is totally new including of which is a forward main deck owners stateroom.

Rizzardi GR SessantaTre. Today most sport yachts above fifteen meters are enclosed.  This new nineteen meter Rizzardi is a return to the real Mediterrean open sport yacht, with traditional propulsion, central engine position, and a guest VIP suite aft.

Tiara EX60. The largest ever yacht build in Michigan.  For a precise production yacht it offers a lot of options, and offers what Tiara did with the Coupe series, a Down-East lobster boat feel into that of a modern sport yacht.

Doing different. Fiart P54. A sport yacht with the outside area spanning the whole sixteen meters size, in three split levels without losing any lower deck accommodation. Fiart did break design rules in 2021 with the Cetera 60, and here they go again with what is there bread and butter open yacht with an unusual offer.

PowerYacht wishes to all its followers, friends, readers, and visitors a Healthy and Prosperous 2023 year.

New Model: Sanlorenzo SP110

Sanlorenzo presents its much waited new SP110, which launched in early Summer with World wide premier at the Cannes 2022 boat show past September. A project of over five years in the making, which was presented officially in renderings for the first time in May 2022 during the Venice boat show.  For its first super sport yacht above 24 meters Sanlorenzo left nothing to chance; with design by Zuccon, technical input by Tilli Antonelli, hull engineering by jet propulsion expert Marco Arnaboldi, and interiors for hull#One by Pierluigi Lissoni.  The new Sanlorenzo SP for Smart Performance 110 wants to rewrite the sport yacht segment, with the innovative vertical loft unbounding the main and lower deck split, and merging it with the aft deck lounge and beach area.  There is something fresh and different about the Sanlorenzo SP110, looking classic yet very modern and at the same time fluid and warm.  For this and the Vertical loft the Sanlorenzo SP110 is the super sport yacht above 24 meters of the year, and probably of the past ten years or so.  Sanlorenzo SP110 super sport yacht rewritten, chapeau!

Best of 2021

The times are a changing, and against all forecast 2021 featured unthinkable growth to the yacht industry.  No one ever thought that Covid-19 and lock downs and social distance would bring this to the yachting World.  The yachting industry has been on a growing pattern in the last five to six years, but what happened in the last year was unthinkable, even in the best of forecasts, with some models having order books going into 2025.  Without further ado lets go into PowerYachts best of 2021.

PowerYacht's best of 2021 is the Sunseeker 90 Ocean. Announced as 8X project in 2019, the 90 Ocean was one of the first creations directed by Andrea Frabetti at Sunseeker.  It represents a total novelty for Sunseeker design language thanks to unique internal and outside space volumes, yet at the same time competing with similar explorer inspired super yachts without looking a copy-paste thanks to Sunseeker signature identity.  The Poole famous name was on a roll in 2021 with the 65 Sport Yacht also short listed for the Best of list.

The others.

Azimut Grande Trideck 38m. The largest Azimut ever build is full of innovation.  From a record breaking internal volume to size, to the three plus one deck, and going into Azimut Displacement2Planning patented hull which reduces fuel consumption.

Bimax 28 Alchimia. Bimax an unknown name to most, presents a forward looking shaft drive propulsion reducing fuel consumption, planning entrance, and the hump at slow speeds.  In these days it is unusual for boat builders to do propulsion, but the small Bimax is doing all this.

Evo Yachts V8. Initially born as an independent project called Velar 78 of designer Valerio Rivellini, Evo Yachts main design man.  Seeing the interest in the project Evo Yachts jumped on this sailing boat inspired explorer sport yacht.  It looks different.

Fiart Cetera 60. Helped by Francesco Guida Fiart defy convention when they present the brands first live aboard explorer yacht.  Its all unusual in the Cetera 60 from its exterior looks to the cabin area on the main deck, living on the upper deck, and a technical area below deck.

ISA Super Sportivo 100 GTO.  55 knots fast and sleek beautiful for an ISA like never made before, thanks also to designer Marco Casali.  Guess if it had that famous American badge the accolades would have been double.

Lion Evolution 6.0.  A fast explorer yacht of seventeen meters from a new young Italian name.  Its style defies convention, as does the engine propulsion choices, which goes from quadruple petrol gas outboards as featured in hull one, to inboard with IPS and or line shaft.

Otam 70 HT. This new 70 HT sees Giuseppe Bagnardi take first design duties for Otam who presents the boutique custom boat builder with its most modern looking creation to date.  Hull one was named Darth Vader, which I think does look the part.

Solace 415 CS. A twelve meter US made centre console is all about three or four outboards at the back and high fifty knots plus speeds.  Solace a young 2019 founded builder new 415 CS flagship changes this, powered by twin 440hp Volvo diesel on stern drives.

Never stop. Wally Why200. Luca Bassani's Wally has been rewriting yacht design since its appearance in 1994.  Previous to 2021 and the Why200 there was a large consensus though that Wally's trend setting minimalism was irresistibly beautiful, and unknowingly reshaped both modern sailing and motor yacht design.  The new Why200 has many saying it is an ugly duck, and then there is that fore main deck master stateroom with 270 degrees views, something unseen in a yacht of any size.  It is a Wally!

PowerYacht wishes to all its followers, friends, readers, and visitors a Healthy and Prosperous 2022 year.

New Model: Sunseeker 90 Ocean

Presented as a project in 2019 as 8X, the Sunseeker 90 Ocean is a revolutionary new model part of the famous Poole, British boat builder Yacht line.  This new 90 Ocean is a forward thinking model which goes away from the usual schemes we are used from Sunseeker; the forward upright full bow, and the aft 24 square meters open beach club are different to what has come before her from Poole.  Yet upward to the shear line it is all so distinctive Sunseeker, with the radar arch an always important design feature showing aggressiveness and sportiness.  We have a lesson and statement from the 90 Ocean; forward thinking yes, but forgetting your design distinctiveness never, and why should Sunseeker forget, considering they have one of the most known boating signatures in the World.
Technical Data:
LOA - 27.10 m (88.9ft)

Best of 2020

2020 was a year marked by the Covid-19 pandemic, something which humanity has not seen like since a hundred years.  The last pandemic of such a scale was the Spanish Flu which started February 1918 and ended April 1920, leaving up to one hundred million deaths in its 26 months.  Covid-19 was not as bad to yachting as some might have thought though.  Brokerage used boat sales have benefitted the most of all this, possibly due to the social distance boating has as its main merit.  As Covid-19 first wave started to get under control at the end of Spring boats starting to sell strong especially at the lower budget side of things.  Onwards with the best of 2020.

Poweryachts's 2020 best is the Cantiere delle Marche Flexplorer 40m. Since founded in 2010 Cantiere delle Marche has become the address to build custom or semi-custom explorer super yachts sub fifty meters, and this new Flexplorer 40m designed by Paszkowski shows why CDM is at the forefront of these type of yachts.  That large commercial type A-frame crane which hides in the aft deck floor is pure genius to say the least.

The others.

Azimut Magellano 25 Metri. For nine years we thought that a Magellano over 24 meters will never come.  This all changed when Azimut announced the project of this 25 Metri in 2018, which with its raised pilot house looks different to the previous smaller Magellano's.

Bertram 50 Hardtop. The American Eagle makes its first large express yacht over fifty feet ever.  It can come fully open, or as an open hard-top, and fully enclosed hard-top with or without patio door.

Invictus TT460. A turning point for Invictus which have arrived to this beautiful, distinctive yet modern fourteen meter flagship.  With Christian Grande designing all the models since the founding in 2015 it was an announced success from the start.

Mazu 82. A future classic which disregards time that's what Mazu new 82 flagship model is all about.  A super yacht of 24 meters which transmits Mazu distinctive design language without breaking the rules of what a sport yacht should be.

Prestige X70. Garroni and Prestige come very innovative in this new X Prestige model and range which looks and is different.  Wide body, forward looking windscreen, are all unusual features, in all this giving one of the most spacious aft decks for a flybridge yacht in this size.

Sundeck 430 S. Walk around central console are in abundance nowadays, but this new 430 S reinvents itself in the genre, in its very own Sundeck way.  It has this exterior with a very utilitarian look which does not forget a comfortable two double cabins below deck.

Tornado T-Rib 48. Tornado has build most of its fortunes on the copy-paste 38 model launched in the eighties.  This Tornado-Rib, sees the Italian famed builder challenge this, without forgetting its roots and pedigree of efficiency and high performance.

Uniesse Exuma HTC5. Uniesse which since 2017 is under American ownership, presents its second model, the Exuma 5, what is the 48 Open presented in 1996 updated for current times.

Space unusual. Princess X95. When one looks at the Pininfarina designed X95 which is possibly one of Princess most awaited models ever, I cannot really understand its purpose and what its want to be.  Step aboard and one starts to understands that it is all about the unbelievable space to be found in a 29 meter super yacht.

PowerYacht wishes to all its followers, friends, readers, and visitors a Healthy and Prosperous 2021 year.

New Model: Cantiere Delle Marche Flexplorer 40m

Cantiere delle Marche has launched its first Flexplorer 40m, titled M/Y Aurelia this is an explorer super yacht designed by Sergio Cutolo and as the title says with flexibility of usage in mind.  In ten years time Cantiere delle Marche from an unknown new name, shaped itself as the shop for custom explorer super yachts.  What is a fact is that the Cantiere delle Marche success was widely imagined by its management and how it evolved the type explorer super yacht into various versions starting with the rugged looking Darwin, and into the first evolution that is the Nauta Air without forgetting the sea-ability and toughness in each yacht build.  This new Flexplorer 40m characterises itself for the novelty of the A-frame crane which when not in use hides itself into the deck.  But the other novelty for Cantiere delle Marche Flexplorer 40m is the collapsing bulwarks which increase deck space to 115 square meters.  The interior designed by Francesco Paszkowski and as per owner wishes is of a four double cabins layout, with an owner apartment style stateroom forward on the main deck, and three guest cabins on the main deck.  Crew accommodation is for six persons in three cabins.  Flexplorer 50 m is power by twin Caterpillar 1000hp engines which allow for top speeds up 14 knots, and a cruise speed of 10 knots which allows for a range over 5000 nautical miles.
Technical Data:

Best of 2019

The just ended second decade of the 2000s started in the worst recessions of recent times, with the World in 2010 still recovering from the 2009 global financial crisis.  From 2014 things started to become better for the boating industry. As decades go the just finished was one for the outboard, becoming immensely popular under the twelve meters size.  Super yachts were the other winners currently having one of the largest order books ever, with sizes becoming bigger, from 28 meters in 2010 to 37 meters average size today.

2019 also means PowerYacht's best of the decade 2010 to 2019.  Unlike the previous decade this one was a close affair, but the 2017 presented Sanlorenzo SX88 is the one which made the bigger change in the industry with its free aft use how you want to party or to put more toys deck space.  To be fair the Sanlorenzo SX was not first with this concept as Arcadia Sherpa a year before presented a similar lengthy aft deck, although not connected as well with the interior.  The SX has after the 88 became a line of yachts, with Sanlorenzo a year later in 2018 adding the smaller SX76 sister.  This is game changing design in yachting and the fact that more names are jumping into a similar concept from Bluegame's new BGX model which is our 2019 best of the year, ISA new Extra line, and Sunseeker upcoming X8 concept, proves how Sanlorenzo SX line of thought is a revolution in design and a new way to use space in yachts twenty to forty meters in size.

PowerYacht's 2019 best of the year is the BlueGame BGX70. For its new flagship BlueGame shakes itself and takes a couple of ideas from parent Sanlorenzo SX series, evolves and unites them into its utilitarian concept to create the explorer BGX inspired line and its first 70 model.  This 21 meter medium range explorer yacht features un-edited inside-outside uniting living solutions on the lower deck, with the midships located lower saloon connection to huge aft deck.  But the BGX70 also marks an un-edited never seen before use of vertical spaces.

The others.

Azimut 78 Flybridge. An important Azimut year marking design duty change from Stefano Righini to Alessandro Mancini, with his first three new models all debuting in 2019; S8, S10, and the 78 Flybridge being the important one, as it's also the first Fly line yacht with Volvo IPS propulsion.

Dutch Craft 56. Entertainment and party designed yachts are a new sub-genre.  With designer Mulder, Zeelander presents its new Dutch Craft name debuting with this seventeen meters all main deck party three double cabin yacht.  Unique and different but it works.

Mostes Audace 80. Unknown to many for new builds, Mostes gets a client request to design and build this custom 24 meter five cabin liveaboard ocean going pocket super yacht.  The result is astonishing including that of being the smallest yacht with an owners stateroom on the main deck.

Pershing 140. Like another Ferretti Group brand usually associated with fiberglass, for its 43 meters largest ever flagship Pershing goes into aluminium construction.  It is one of many notes, another being the fast even when still looks by all time Pershing designer Fulvio de Simoni.

Princess F45. Working first on the R series, and the upcoming volume-full X95, Pininfarina is thrusted with Princess's conservative looking flybridge line exteriors.  Result is that the F45 is Princess sleekest flybridge made to date.

Riva DolceRiva. Sweet-Reef is one of the most beautiful Riva made, surely of the latest generation era.  The DolceRiva is a homage to Riva details like the pivoting bathing platform which doubles the size of the swimming area.

Spencer 50 Jet Drives. Founded 1996 Spencer is the busiest of custom sportfish yacht builders, building its hundred hull back in 2016.  The 50 Jet Drives sees the Carolina builder take a challenging request for the ultimate handling, fifty knots speed first made jet propulsion sportfish yacht.

Van der Valk Beach Club 600. Three Dutch unite; Wim, Cor, and Ginton, and re-think what an aft cabin should be about.  The result is a living saloon on sea water level connected to a large aft bathing platform re-inventing the experience of the area.

Fuel Power. Solaris Power Lobster 55. The high end sailing yacht builder Solaris get its Power line going with help coming from Norberto Ferretti who directs the program, and Brunello Acampora responsible for naval architecture and design.  The first of more models to come for a range which will span from fourteen to 27 meters, the Solaris Power Lobster 55 is a modern Down East boat inspired yacht, with fold down side bulkheads, and central sun-pad replacing the open space of the traditional lobster boat.

PowerYacht wishes to all its followers, friends, readers, and visitors a Healthy and Prosperous 2020 year.

New Model: BlueGame BGX70

BlueGame presents its new BGX70, its current flagship and largest model to date which also launches the BGX range.   A 21 meter explorer sport yacht hybrid design courtesy of Zuccon, the BlueGame BGX70 brings a sophisticated and revolutionary exterior looks and a distinct layout perfectly combining elegant lines and wide living spaces. The centrality of the owner’s cabin, finds one of its highest expressions in this model. It is in fact centrally located with access both to the living area and to a private area, which can be used as a guest room if necessary. Light plays a fundamental role, particularly in the living areas, where the percentage of glass surfaces is so large that exteriors and interiors merge as a part of the same environment. The result is a transversal and thoroughly nautical vessel in which the impression is that the sea itself is furnishing the interiors. The BlueGame BGX70 is standard powered by twin Volvo 900hp and or optional 1000hp, both with IPS pod propulsion as.  The standard power gives 28 knots max speed, with additional two knots coming from the large engine option.  Awarded as “Most Avant-Garde Yacht” and “Motoryacht of the Year” respectively at the Cannes 2019.

Best of 2018

2018 has been another good year for the nautical industry, it is though not all roses and flowers with some parts of the sector doing great, others good, and a part just managing to keep going.  The winner in recent years has been the 24 meter plus super yacht industry.  Another sector which has seen impressive growth is that for large tenders, day cruisers, and centre consoles, with these last becoming the boat of the most important North American sub fifty feet segment.  Still recovering is that of cruisers and yachts from ten to twenty meters, far away from the numbers it had ten years ago.  It might also be a change of demand, so it is possible that the flybridge motor and sport cruiser and yacht will never see the sales it had, at least in the near future.  Sportfish boats are doing good, stable, with this repeated formula dominated by a few names, and a handful of custom builders building on demand.  This again a market reserved for the most part to the East Coast of North America.  The coming year looks difficult to predict, with clouds on the horizon, mostly in the old continent, and three major countries having a set of different circumstances that will create uncertainties in the European Union and beyond.  Obviously the important one will be Brexit, which not only means a cloud on the British boat builders, but also to the United Kingdom boat owners using them in the EU.

PowerYacht 2018 best is the Maritimo X60. Aft cabin was the standard for Italian made sport yachts in the nineties but today are a thing of the past, which is unfortunate as this layout has its benefits including optimum engine positioning for balance and shaft angle, and the privacy an aft cabin usually gives.  From down under Maritimo decides to follow balanced engineering first with its new X range, debuting this nineteen meter European looks inspired sport yacht.  Although it will be a big mistake to think the X60 is just about balance with the aft area being the main innovation, available in four different versions; aft cabin, beach club, and tender garage, or other custom requirements from the customer.  The nice day is shown in the morning, with Maritimo already working on a smaller X50.

The others.

Baltic M78. This Finnish yacht builder famous for high end custom or semi-custom sailing yachts is reportedly close in buying out an Italian super yacht builder.  In the meantime with the help of German Frers they present this medium range unusual looking low profiled explorer yacht.

Cayman F920. Cayman launches its largest 27 meter build to date.  With Ferragni on design duty the F920 is an innovative super yacht, although its stand out feature is its light to the eye super structure which makes her look sportier to any similar sized and styled yacht.

Ferretti 670. The famous Italian name celebrated fifty years in 2018 with a party held in Venice, and the presentation of the new 670 which starts the Filippo Salvetti style era, who replaces Zuccon after 28 years.

ISA Yachts Extra 76. The Extra is Palumbo's shake up since taking over the Ancona super yacht builder in 2016.  With innovator designer of the times Francesco Guida, the Extra is a product for those wanting endless aft deck space.  The first SX competitor.

Overmarine Mangusta 54 Gransport. This new flagship and Gransport line from Overmarine Mangusta defies convention, able of a top speed up to 29 knots or be a globe trotter at twelve knots.

Palm Beach GT50. Mark Richards is a master of high-tech light weight construction and hull efficiency, and with the GT50 he delivers unthinkable low fuel consumption in fifteen meters of length.

Princess R35. The usual conservative Princess breaks its mould of doing things for its first ever runabout sport cruiser designed by BAR with styling by Pininfarina.  R for revolution and runabout.

Sanlorenzo SL102 Asymmetric. In 2015 Sanlorenzo announced a cooperation with Chris Bangle famous for changing the car industry.  The result is asymmetry, fully body to port side on the Sanlorenzo SL102, which adds ten per cent of interior space and undisturbed sea views.

Line shafts. Sunseeker 50 Predator. With this new entry level Predator 50 Sunseeker take a step back, to itself and the competition in this size, returning to traditional line shaft propulsion.  It is an interesting turn of events with Sunseeker being among the first with the Portofino 48 in 2008 which was then updated into the 50 San Remo in 2014 to jump in the IPS propulsion and large midships cabin layout.  But do not be mistaken thanks to aft located engines with U-drive line shafts the Predator 50 midships master cabin is still there, and with Sunseeker magic is even more spacious to that of the San Remo model it replaces.

PowerYacht wishes to all its followers, friends, readers, and visitors a Healthy and Prosperous 2019 year.

New Model: Maritimo X60

Launched during the 2018 Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, the new Maritimo X60 marks the first of many displays of the highly anticipated first X-Series model throughout 2018, which will include further appearances at exhibitions in Australia, New Zealand and the United States. Development has also commenced on the next model within the X-Series Range, a Maritimo X50 which the company is closely guarding until its introduction at Sydney International Boat Show with its world premiere scheduled for 2019.  Integral in the X-Series and what differentiates to the S-series is the versatile aft cabin space that enables high levels of custom-ability for owners to cater to the space to their specific requirements. Inherent in the X60, the space enables an additional cabin accessible from saloon and swim platform, that can be arranged as beach club, additional stateroom, tender garage, euro galley and other custom options.  Maritimo lead designer, Tom Barry-Cotter said the X60 was one of the most versatile sports motor yachts available in the international market, with multiple arrangement options of the aft cabin, and regency suite. With units already in production, bound for new homes in Australia, New Zealand, North America, and Europe, he credits the early momentum in sales to the value added into the design’s increased accommodation spaces to that of its competitors.  Inherent in the X-Series bloodline will be the company’s race driven performance prowess. With a complete new efficient shaft-driven hull and drive-line design, the X60 has been tested at speeds up to 34 knots with 925hp Scania power, with excess speed capability available with Volvo 1000hp power option. Hull efficiency within the cruising speed range was a major focus of the hull and driveline design. The X60’s class leading range and economy has been recorded at over 30 knot cruise and consumption rate of 200 liters per hour at a 27 knot cruise. With superior economy and greater fuel capacity than direct competitors, the X60’s range capabilities are revolutionary within the sport motor yacht segment.  The new era variable deadrise hull design with deep-V bow entry, also offers a soft dry ride, whilst weight distribution within the hull design allows for effortless transition to plane and running attitude through the power range.  Maritimo has also worked closely with Twin Disc in the development of marina maneuvering EJS joystick systems. The latest Twin Disc system has the most sensitive joystick docking ability in the industry, enabling stress free docking in tight spaces. The X60 is fitted with Twin Disk Quickshift transmissions, EC 300 Electronic Control System, Express Joystick and has the option of being fitted with Express Positioning System technology which enables precise and continuous position and heading hold.

Best of 2017

2017 has been another good year for the nautical industry and since couple years the market is settling itself to a stable growth. The second decade of the second millennium started low and slow, with all sort of problems created by the largest recession in decades, and other outside forces as governments over taxing the segment. Now that things are settling down nicely, some names are returning, and the innovation which is the focal point of the boating industry is again very spirited.

PowerYacht best of 2017 is Sanlorenzo SX88.  With Massimo Perotti Sanlorenzo has ventured into new pastures, but what it does with the SX is well beyond what the usual conservative name has done before with the SD, Alloy, and Exp lines he introduced into his twelve years at the helm.  The SX is first and foremost a new type of yacht, with a layout which offers double spaces outside in its size, uniting the exterior into the interior living areas in a new un-edited way.

The others.

Apreamare 11m Gozzo.  Cataldo Aprea revolutionised the traditional Italian fishing gozzo boat in the early nineties, transforming it into a cruiser with the Smeraldo series.  In 2017 helped by Brunello Acampora he does it again turning the classic Italian fishing boat style into that of a fast runabout.

Azimut Grande 27 Metri. While the rest is focusing on putting 28-29 meters super yachts with a 23.9 load line, Azimut pulls a trick from its sleeve and puts the space of a thirty meters in a 27.  A lesson in using and redefining spaces in yacht design.

Baglietto MV19. Inspired by WWI and WWII MAS torpedo boats, which Baglietto used to build, this fully custom, alloy constructed, is a bigger custom build inspired by the MV13 launched in 2013.  Six more meters in size, give accommodation for six plus one crew.

Canados 428 Gladiator. Its over thirty years since Cantieri Navali di Ostia offered anything smaller then fifteen meters.  In this sporty configuration probably never.  Yet the small thirteen meter Gladiator is Canados at its best form, build to order and able to be customised as it can be.

Dominator D28 Ilumen. Three years in the making the Ilumen represents a big change from Dominator who move into volume a plenty, explorer inspired super yachts.

Fairline Targa 63 GTO. The first totally new Fairline of the new ownership and in four years, which represents a changed way of working, in an Italian type system, with exterior styling by Alberto Mancini who has taken full design duties from now onwards, and hull design by Vripack.

Grand Banks 60. Mark Richards first fully new 60 model reinvents Grand Banks, now being all about efficiency, light weight, and speed.  Challenging an iconic look is a big ask, even for Grand Banks.

Pardo 43. A return to motor boating after twenty years absent.  Pardo enter in the genre of the moment, with a thirteen meter centre console walk-around with four berths accommodation below designed by Zuccheri.  A big hot seller in the fall 2017 boat shows.

Custom production. Bayliss GameBoat 60. Custom sportfish yachts are the ultimate machine to build, own, captain or crew in the sport fishing realm.  Founded in 2002 Bayliss has risen very fast to the top of the custom sportfish addresses to look if you want a new build, and in 2017 presented this custom-production platform called GameBoat.  While still a custom build to order in cold moulding the GameBoat reduces build time, thanks to a confinement of layouts.  The result was approved by the Sportfisherman with a further GameBoat ordered, albeit in a larger 62 size and a bit fatter beam.

PowerYacht wishes to all its followers, friends, readers, and visitors a Healthy and Prosperous 2018 year.

New Model: Sanlorenzo SX88

The new Sanlorezo SX88 has been one of the most awaited projects for the year 2017.  The wait was due for many factors, important was the promotion Sanlorenzo created for the SX88, but another reason which got many people excited was seeing something completely new and out of the box design for the famous yet usually conservative Ligurian yacht and super yacht builder.  Truth be told, that since Massimo Perotti took over in 2005 we have seen Sanlorenzo go into other different segments see SD and Exp line, but this new SX88 is surely something very new even in respect to the other lines.  For the SX88 Sanlorenzo entrusted the help of many known designers; Officina Italiana exterior, Lou Codega for hull shape, and interiors by Piero Lissoni.  The SX88 will feature a helm only on the flybridge deck, and there is a choice for four or five guest cabins layout, with an owners stateroom located to midships or on the main deck option. Three different deck layouts are available from Sanlorenzo without moving any structure areas of the super yacht.  The helm station on the flybridge can be fully window closed and air-conditioned.  The stern area is a lowered spacious open space and can be used for tender stowage or a free beach area.  Power for the Sanlorenzo SX88 is from Volvo 800hp engines with IPS pod drives propulsion, this being another first for the Italian boat builder.  Commercial success has gone beyond expectations with the Sanlorenzo SX88 selling nine units before its official boat show debut in Cannes a week ago.

Best of 2016

2016 marked another growing year for the pleasure boating industry, with important builders reaching new sale highs of the last six years.  This is all positive news considering that the World in 2016 took some complicated decisions, which will make the future a less liberal place to be.  Forecast tell that 2017 is also looking to be another positive year for pleasure boating, with estimates suggesting for another double digit growth compared to 2016.  Interestingly it is not the first time we see this, that when the World feels confused the nautical industry gets a boost and grows with 2002 being an example of this.  It is just that with the bad news, boat people think that it is just not worth to bother and switch into enjoying life.  Why not?  Life is also about enjoying it, and boating apart being an adventurous independent way to do that makes also switching off  from the rest amazingly easy.

The best of 2016 is the Arcadia Sherpa 60. The boutique only six years old Italian from Naples builder does it again, taking PowerYacht's best of the year for the second time with the Sherpa, its new entry level model out of normal thought and designed sixteen meter tug boat inspired explorer yacht.  Arcadia and Francesco Guida shows why they are the builder and designer of the times, thanks to the innovation the Sherpa 60 delivers; unseen for the size exterior spaces, one or two or three cabin layout choice, and Volvo power with IPS propulsion good for speeds up to the mid twenties.  Can Arcadia deliver a third best of the year, in Italy they say there is no two without a three.

The others.

Amer 94. This semi-custom yacht builder from North Italy surprises the Volvo world in 2016 by building the largest ever IPS propulsion boat, with triple 900hp powering this 28 meter 64 tons super yacht.

Astondoa 655 Coupe. For its first century celebration the Spanish Astondoa launches two new ranges, the super yacht Century line and Coupe sport cruiser and yacht series.  The 655 is an innovative ultra modern looking sport yacht designed by Christian Gatto with unedited solutions.

Bertram 35. Gavio took Bertram from Ferretti Group in 2015, and this 35 designed by Michael Peters is the first model. A modern re-interpretation of the 31, Bertram's and World first production deep-Vee hull boat which sold over 1700 units in a twenty year production run.

Horizon FD85. Horizon decide to offer something new and different, enters the Fast Displacement 85 designed by Dutch designer Cor D.Rover which gives an extra 25% of volume to comparable yachts of the same size.

Otam SD35. For its largest ever build, semi-custom or as is this case fully custom boutique yacht builder Otam goes to a new different direction, building in alloy and going for a semi-displacement hull shape.

Overmarine Mangusta 42 Oceano. Famous for building the largest semi-custom super sport yachts in fiberglass, Overmarine make huge investments to enter the important segment of steel hulled full displacement globe trotting super yachts.  Perfection planning for a new product offer.

Sacs 47 Rebel. While not its largest rib to date, the 47 Rebel designed by Christian Grande is Sacs most innovative product to date, thanks to the use of mouldable semi-rigid tubes and an un-edited layout.

Tecnomar Evo 55 Open. After over a decade Tecnomar return to offer a sub eighty foot yacht, with this semi custom sixteen meter sport yacht designed by Gian Marco Ciampanino. Saying ultra modern is an understatement with the Evo 55 looking coming from a sci-fi movie set into the future far away.

Welcome back. Rizzardi 48 In. In the second part of the 2000s first decade, InRizzardi which at that time featured six brands looked to be the next big yachting Group to come from Italy.  Unfortunately the fall 2008 recession turned the economy upside down, made easy money a thing of the past, and the Rizzardi dream getting lost in all this.  Or so we thought as Rizzardi is back in 2016 with new projects, and its 48 In model, a redevelopment of the 45 Incredible which was the best fourteen meter sport cruiser to come from the Genoa boat show of 2004 and the South Rome builders top success from there onwards.

PowerYacht wishes to all its followers, friends, readers, and visitors a Healthy and Prosperous 2017 year.

New Model: Arcadia 16.80m Sherpa

Arcadia forward thinking is shown again with the new Sherpa, possibly the most innovative yacht to be produced in recent years for what is looks, concepts and layouts.  There is a lot to like about the Sherpa, from its raised living area, to its huge aft deck cockpit available in two different layouts, Mediterranean and Tropical.  The Sherpa takes navigation to a new level, with its very forward located pilot house adjoined with living galley area being somewhat unique. Another important feature for the Sherpa is it's also a semi planning boat meaning she is not a slow boat, cruising at twenty knots and reaching top speeds of 25 with twin Volvo 435hp coupled to an IPS pod drive propulsion.  Inside the Sherpa is a again a comfortable offer with Arcadia offering three interior choices of one large stateroom, two, and three cabin layouts.  A single berth crew cabin, located to port side midships is offered in the single or two cabin layouts. Welcome to the new Sherpa age, if medium sized motor yachts needed someone thinking out of the box, those engineers in Naples Italy really got it right.

Best of 2015

A new year always means a fresh start, with a will to do better then the previous one.  2016 and the years ahead will be an interesting one for the boating industry with the planning boat seeing growing competition in the sub twenty meter sizes from the semi-displacement-planning hull shape. Is fifteen knots really the new cruise speed to be? In a World going always faster I am not so sure.  But for the people who have a lot of time in there hands, it is an interesting option.

PowerYacht's best of 2015 is the Riva 88 Florida. The dominion of hard-top sport yachts upwards of fifteen meters in the last ten to fifteen years, has shown its shortcomings.  The main one is that boating is first and foremost life in the open air, and the three part hard-top reduces this a lot.  Ferretti Group and Riva resolve this with the 88 Florida, thanks to a clever patented hard-top called the Convertible Top which becomes fully open and hides in the foredeck.  Italian invention does it again.

The others.

Cruisers 60 Cantius. Euro looks have invaded North America, and this shows with Cruisers new largest ever eighteen meter flagship designed by Facheris, who brings a modern design language for this 1956 founded company.

Galeon 500 Fly. Flip open side bulkheads are not new, with an Italian builder presenting the technology back in 2008.  Polish Galeon introduces it first time on a flybridge yacht, and the affect is a fresh take how to expand social areas from inside to outside.

Raffaelli 42 Typhoon Sportage. Raffaelli has been quiet in recent years, now returning with this innovative new thirteen meter which tries to give the best of flybridge and hard-top boats.  In the seventies we had some similar designs which turned out to be successful.  Will it do the same today?

Sabre 66 Dirigo. At 22 meters Sabre's new flagship is the largest fully American built and designed down east inspired lobster yacht.  Considering the genre is American it was time to do it.

Sanlorenzo SL86. Replacing your top selling model after twenty years of production and success is not easy.  Sanlorenzo does this courtesy of Mauro Micheli, who is on duty for a smaller similar 76.  Has the Sanlorenzo overhaul started?

Sunseeker 57 Predator. Sunseeker catch with the Italian competition and present a fully enclosed hard top sport yacht with a patio door that fully opens and disappears in the floor.  This is Sunseeker hitting a sweet spot of comfort inside and outside with sporty lines in seventeen meters.

Tiara Q44. One of Americas favourite names does it again, turning the walkaround concept into a hard top sport cruiser full of versatility.  This is an all season cabin, day, and fishing cruising boat in one which Tiara calls the Adventure Yacht.

Wider 150. The third model from Tilli Antonelli Wider goes 34 meters bigger.  But forget the size, as this new flagship is all about using diesel electric propulsion to new affect, including which is a forward located engine room. *

Sweet sixteen. Ferretti 550. Ferretti returns with a new entry level sixteen meter of length flybridge motor yacht model.  For a year or two the famous Italian name abandoned sub eighteen meter sizes, in a strange act of product placement, especially when you think that among its all time best sellers two have been in this sixteen meter size.

PowerYacht wishes to all its followers, friends, readers, and visitors a Healthy and Prosperous 2016 year.

New Model: Riva 88 Florida

If history is a remark, the original wooden Riva Florida spurred a glorious moment for the today Italian status symbol boat builder and sold in its time between 1952 to 69 over one thousand units.  This new Riva 88 Florida which continues the over two decades long Mauro Micheli design efforts is a totally different boat, from size to construction materials. But yet again the new 88 Florida spurs imagination forward, something also the small runabout did.  It is in simple terms a genius effort to change a hard top yacht into a fully open one in some seconds, thanks to the Ferretti Group patent called the Convertible Top. This system alone changes what kind of customer the 88 Florida attracts, and in simple terms feels to be a more juvenile yet in its own right already looking a classic super sport yacht.  At this moment a big question comes to mind, and it will be interesting to see if Ferretti Group will keep this patent Riva only, or try to use it on the other brands.
Technical Data:
LOA - 26.84 m (88ft)
Hull Length - 23.9 m
Waterline Length - 21.4 m

Fuel Capacity - 7500 l
Water Capacity - 900 l
Accommodation - 8 guests in 4 cabins, 2/4 crew in 2 cabins

Best of 2014

The Show Boats order books always displays the market vision of super yacht 24 meters plus in size industry.  Even though the top three positions have not changed, with the Italian dominance continuing unchallenged in the sub fifty meter sizes, with these now also pushing into the bigger sizes of fifty meters plus and over one hundred meters.  The World has currently 734 yachts under construction, one less then 2014, but sizes are increasing. Sales have increased in 79 to 89 feet, and the over 250 feet sizes, receiving ten more orders each then in 2014.  The second increase came in the 100 to 119 feet, with the largest decrease coming at 120 to 149 feet.  United Kingdom has gained a spot thanks to the increase in size of its production brands in motor and sailing yachts. This position gain comes at the expense of the US who falls in fifth.  But in my opinion USA can regain ground over its Atlantic Ocean divided neighbour, if demand of plus eighty feet sportfish yachts continues to increase. An area which is an American specialization.

PowerYacht best of 2014 is the Viking 75 Motor Yacht. Its been thirteen years since the dominating force of sportfish yachts build a motor yacht, and nineteen since it presented a new model in the segment.  The 75 Motor Yacht changes this, challenging European elite production builders in lines and looks, with a design that one would think came from Europe's or Italy's best designer.  But no the 75 Motor Yacht is fully designed inhouse at New Jersey, with Viking giving skin deep engineering as in its Sportfish yachts.  Welcome back to Motor Yachting Viking, who made 2014 a special year by two, launching its largest ever new 92 Enclosed Bridge Convertible flagship which was also short listed for this year best of list.

The others.

Absolute 58 Navetta. The always growing and moving forward Absolute present its first explorer yacht with the first Navetta range model.  A more Mediterranean explorer yacht giving liveaboard comfort and medium-distance-range.

Gamefisherman 42 Walk-Around Sportfisherman. Custom sportfish builds are mostly believed available only at fifty feet plus.  Gamefisherman from Florida is an exception to this, and the 42 Walk-Around is proving to be a custom-production success already sold in four units.

Ocean Yachts 64 Makaira. Its been six years for this modern looking sportfish yacht to make it from paper to fibreglass.  The current second large Ocean Yachts is also a first to bring a custom specialized designer enter that of a production builder.  A rare bond.

Pershing 70. Fulvio de Simoni adds buttress wings to create an updated visual to Pershing's unique design identity.  An unedited superstructure and hull design integration, from the name which pioneered integrated windshield design in 1991.

Riva 122 Mythos. The largest Riva in 172 years of history, and also the first to be build in aluminium. Called the Rolls Royce of the sea, for the beauty and elegance the wooden seven to nine meters runabouts represented.  The story moves on.

Sarnico 60 GTV. A clients custom request for a single floor aft deck gives life to the third and newest GTV version of the 2005 presented Sarnico 60.  One element marks a big change.

Sea Ray L650 Fly. The largest volume production boat name presents a new flagship and line to stop the European wave which has gained aplenty market success in North America in recent years.  The design is in line to take the competition.

Sunseeker 155 Yacht. The Poole builders aim of going larger never stopped since in 1987 it launched its at the time 47 Malibu flagship.  This new biggest ever model though takes the stakes higher as it is Sunseeker first aluminium build yacht.

Flat Floor. Steeler Panorama FF46. The Dutch are usually associated with super yachts above 100 feet, but in recent years they are emerging as a force in custom and semi-custom builds sub 24 meters.  To semi-custom Steeler adds innovation with the Panorama FF for Flat Floor designed by Vripack, which reinterprets a liveaboard with living and cabin all located on the single floor of the main deck.  It is a unique and different offer and for living aboard purposes works aplenty, adding comfort, that once aboard becomes unbelievable to think this is an explorer cruiser measuring just fourteen meters.

PowerYacht wishes to all its followers, friends, readers, and visitors a Healthy and Prosperous 2015 year.
