Monterey Ends on Rocks in Haulover Inlet

An eleven meter Monterey sport cruiser ended colliding in the rocks while entering Haulover inlet during the night of 27 February.  Miami Dade Police, the Fire Department, and Tow Boats assisted the sport cruiser who seemed to have only one person onboard at the time of the collision.  With assistance from Tow Boat the sport cruiser was later escorted to a boat yard for repairs.  All the event after the collision was filmed by Haulover Inlet YouTube channel, video linked in comments.  Haulover Inlet has become in recent years a social media sensation with a handful of YouTube channels filming boats going in and out of the famous channel which leads to the Atlantic ocean.  This is not the first time a boat collided in the channel, although she might be one with the most damages and bigger in size of recent times.

Aicon To Offer Patent Energy Collecting Glass

Saxon Capital Group, Inc., announced the appointment of Aicon Yachts, manufactured in Italy, as distributor for Energy Glass Solar, an energy producing glazing for yachts in the 66′ to 100′ range.  With the need for using less fossil fuels and the generation of power from non-toxic and non-polluting materials, Energy Glass is a perfect addition to any product that has substantial glass.  Aicon’s modern and heavily glass laden yachts will have the ability to produce electricity through its large glass portholes and windows, storing it in on-board batteries for use while docked in a harbor or anchored at sea.  Marc Udo Broich, Chairman/CEO stated: “We have been following with enthusiasm the development of Energy Glass Solar™ with the intent of installing this advanced innovative glass in our award-winning yachts while offering the same to other yacht builders.  “We are thrilled to have been named exclusive distributors for Energy Glass Solar for luxury yachts in the 66’-100’ range. The electrical power generated from the energy glass will reduce the need to continuously run the diesel-powered generators. This is of particular interest as yachts anchor or dock in populated areas. At Aicon we continue to look for ways to reduce the environmental impact and feel the Energy Glass Solar will play a significant role”. EnergyGlass™ is a patented, Optically Clear Vertical Building Photovoltaic Window System that produces continuous Energy from Sunlight, Diffused, Ambient Light and Ground Reflectance and has 100% field of vision.  The entire surface of the windows is clear – No grids, dots or lines! This proprietary Inorganic Nano Technology and Solar Collector does not degrade from IR like typical solar cells do. DC electricity produced from EnergyGlass™ can be inverted and returned to the grid, charge batteries, be wired direct to DC electronics, and offers a value-added solution for power independence from the main electrical grid! EnergyGlass™ uses inorganic nano particles that are co-infused in a polycarbonate interlayer, which is then laminated between two lites of 1/4″ inch glass.  The nano particles redirect components of the light spectrum to the edge of the glass while letting most of the spectrum through. The light that reaches the edge of the glass is collected and sent to our patented edge frame collectors.  Because our edge collectors are at the edge of our glass and actually fit inside of the photovoltaic curtain wall framing system, they are protected and do not suffer degradation from IR as typical solar cell installations do.

CRN Wins 2023 Boat  International Design and Innovation Award

CRN M/Y RIO, the steel and aluminium bespoke work of art by CRN, has won the accolade for Best Naval Architecture, Displacement Motor Yachts at the eagerly awaited Boat International Design and Innovation Awards. The prize was presented on the evening of Wednesday 8 February at the Superyacht Design Festival in the elegant setting of the Alexander Girardi Hall in Cortina d’Ampezzo at a gathering of the leading lights in the nautical world.  This prestigious award is given to the design adjudged the most innovative for its naval architecture and advanced engineering solutions while also considering the visual aspects and the elegance of the lines.  As well as reflecting CRN’s superlative design and build quality, the Best Naval Architecture, Displacement Motor Yachts award also underlines the shipyard’s unrivalled ability to turn an owner’s vision and brief into reality. The result is a unique work of art with a vibrant identity and a strong sense of style, a 62-metre design of exceptional comfort, seakeeping and performance that also vaunts an enviable range.  In giving their reasons for the award, the jury noted CRN’s considerable design achievement of reducing resistance through the majority of the speed range, in perfecting the position of the spray rail forward, and in determining the stern height and trim conditions to keep the lower-deck beach area dry even while running at top performance. Numerous design aspects caught the eye, especially the elongated bow with its large open-air space and the judicious distribution of weight through precision positioning of the main on-board systems and a careful attention to the layout (including the guest cabins and crew quarters). Also instrumental in winning this Boat International Design and Innovation Award were the focus on the main equipment size to optimise overall efficiency and an insistence on weight reduction, enabling the vessel to cruise at 10 knots at a fuel consumption of under 200 l/h.

Gulf Craft Honoured at Boat International Awards

Gulf Craft’s Majesty 120 Superyacht, was named the winner in the ‘Eco Award’ and ‘Best Naval Architecture, Semi Displacement or Planing Motor Yachts’ categories at the BOAT International Design and Innovation Awards 2023 last night.  The 2023 edition of the Design and Innovation Awards, hosted by the leading yacht industry magazine, BOAT International, celebrated the very best in naval architecture, innovation, and engineering across nine sought-after categories. The BOAT International Design & Innovation Awards are one of the most prestigious accolades in the industry and are specifically formulated to recognise the teams responsible for individual elements of the world’s most innovative superyachts. Named the winner in the ‘Eco Award’ for the Majesty 120’s innovative energy-efficient heat recovery system. Gulf Craft has been developing new ways to improve the energy efficiency of its onboard systems and minimize electrical consumption, leading to smaller generators and lower fuel consumption. The new HVAC system, together with a holistic approach to the integration of other onboard systems has been developed and installed on board the Majesty 120 in collaboration with Netherlands-based MAR-IX advanced HVAC systems. The systems significantly reduce the electric load on-board, saving more than 80,000 KW per year for basic systems (like hot water heating and fresh air re-heater). The remarkably lower e-load ensures lower fuel consumption in the generators and lower shore power usage which ultimately reduces the vessel’s carbon footprint, resulting in a more sustainable operation as well as lower operational costs.  Gulf Craft was also awarded the ‘Best Naval Architecture in the Semi Displacement or Planing Motor Yachts’ category for its outstanding design, the Majesty 120 impressed BOAT International’s panel of esteemed judges with its energy-efficient naval architecture along with maximising the indoor-outdoor living capabilities the Majesty line is known for. Her spacious sundeck, for example, is 30 percent larger than other yachts in her class, and her capacity to accommodate up to 12 guests in its five (up to six) cleverly designed large staterooms – further underlining her significant volume.

Like all Heesen yachts, the new design will also be available with Heesen’s hybrid technology for intelligent power management and a silent cruise capability. The layout will emphasise the connection of the outdoors to the interior, providing plenty of natural light and fresh air from sliding windows in the main saloon on the main deck. The design will also feature separate crew routing for discreet and efficient service, while with tenders and toys conveniently stored on the main deck forward, guests can enjoy the split-level aft deck terrace, overlooking an infinity pool and a large, fixed swimming platform. Six staterooms will accommodate twelve guests. Heesen’s Marketing Director, Mark van Heffen, worked closely with the engineering and production teams to create a detailed brief, which was not only based on experience gained from previous series but also took into account a thorough analysis of the market. The result is a 50-metre series concept that splices Harrison Eidsgaard’s creative flair with Heesen’s industrial DNA, fitting perfectly into the shipyard’s future commercial strategy. Heesen engineers and the Harrison Eidsgaard team will work together on translating this design into a perfectly engineered superyacht. Construction is scheduled to commence in Summer 2024.

New Model: Baglietto T52

The first model in the successful T52 line has finally hit the water: hull No. 10238 was launched during a private ceremony.  The first T52 launched is fitted with a hybrid propulsion system that will allow to choose a more efficient cruising mode, reducing both consumption and environmental impact. When cruising in electrical diesel mode, the T52 can indeed reach a range of up to 7,600 nm, and remain at anchor up to ten hours relying on the batteries only.  Her two MTU engines, however, will also allow her to reach quite an impressive maximum speed of seventeen knots and a range of 3,600 nm in traditional navigation mode.  The lines by Francesco Paszkowski reinterpret the classical design elements of Baglietto’s traditional steel displacement yachts under 500 GT in a highly contemporary, distinctive style and conveying a very strong personality, the same found across the interiors, also designed by Francesco Paszkowski in cooperation with Margherita Casprini.  Just like her seven sisterships currently in build, the first T52, too, has truly unique features that perfectly meet today’s market demands.  Close contact with the sea is ensured by the original open stern featuring a beach club that develops over three levels and has already become a hallmark of Baglietto’s new course.  The large pool can easily be concealed thanks to an ingenious up-down movable floor that further extends the available deck surface when the pool is not being used.  On the upper deck, the wide floor-to-ceiling windows opening on three sides create a pleasant “al fresco” lounge, with a conversation area and a dining area to be enjoyed in all weather conditions.  The approximately 24-metre-long sundeck, another distinguishing feature on Baglietto T52 is unmatched on a super yacht of this size and volume, and follows in the wake of Baglietto’s traditional displacement yachts.

Classic Riva Sinks in Sapri

A ten meter classic Riva flybridge motor cruiser sank while in her berth in Sapri yacht marina, to the South of Naples in Italy on the morning of Wednesday 22 February.  The Riva classic cruiser was unattended at the time of sinking and according to some reports had the bilge pumps going on for quite some days, before energy ended and power faded which led to its sinking.
The Riva in this sinking is a Portofino 34 model produced between 1976 to 79 in 38 units.  Sharing hull with the longer produced Summertime 34 the Portofino was a nice mix of sportfish influence to those of a sport cruiser, with an open main deck and a double berth with head lower deck.  Powered by twin 350hp gas or 225hp diesels the Portofino 34 reached 35 and 29 knots top speeds respectively.

AB Yachts has given no details about the interior of hull one, with the builder saying this is fully  made custom to order, and crew accommodation for four persons in two cabins.  The first AB Yachts 787 was powered with triple Man 2000hp engines and jet propulsion giving top speeds up to 56 knots and a cruise of fifty.

Project: Delta 48 Coupe

Ever since Delta Powerboats was introduced in Sweden in 2003, the name has been associated with efficient hydrodynamics, authentic craftsmanship and advanced technology integrations. The new Delta 48 Coupé is no exception, rather the ambition to capture the very essence of sleek, versatile and energy efficient sports cruiser made of carbon fibre the Swedish name has build its reputation on. As the latest result of the Lar Modin and Mannerfelt design partnership, the 48 benefits from the experience of previous projects and combines features from both the Open and Coupé series.  The Delta 48 Coupe will feature generous deck arrangements allowing guests to enjoy multiple exterior lounges and sun beds or seek shelter within an enclosed saloon with panoramic all around views. Sliding aft and side doors blur the boundaries between the inner and outer decks and due to the large electrical roof top the 48 easily adapts to changing weather. Below deck the interior accommodates six guests across three cabins where the owner occupies a forward master stateroom with generous storage and an en-suite bathroom.  Delta 48 Coupé features an all new twin stepped-bottom, designed to reduce friction, deliver speed and a consistent plane with less pitching. In the construction, only advanced carbon fibre composite materials are used, making the hull strong, stiff and impact resistant and keeps the weight of the vessel low, which further reduces engine load and  fuel consumption. The Delta 48 Couple is to be powered with either twin Volvo 440hp inboard sterndrives diesels, and or Mercury 600hp outboards petrol gas.  Estimated top speeds are up to 45 knots and a cruise of 32 giving only three litres per nautical mile from the twin Volvo diesels.

Pearl New Web Site

British boat builder Pearl Motor Yachts presents its new web site. Founded in 1998 by Iain Smallridge Pearl started up by developing a line based on the Northern, British looking motor cruiser featuring the master aft cabin typical of the classic UK design. Pearl started up by presenting first a 45 model in the Southampton show of 1999, which was followed in the next four years by a smaller 41, and 43. In the year 2000 Pearl moved to Stratford in Avon, and in 2002 Tony Whittaker, a professional engineer, renowned RYA instructor, and boat owner took the helm of the company. New Launch: Van Der Valk 33.00m Hull no. WV0133

Van der Valk delivered the Raised Pilothouse 33-metre Blue Jeans to her owners at the end of 2022, its second in size model and flagship of the RP range as introduced in 2014 and so far launched in six units. After handover at the Van der Valk shipyard in the Netherlands, this custom build Raised Pilothouse 33 meters superyacht has cruised through Belgium, France and the UK to London. Designed by Guido de Groot the exterior style is closely aligned with the request for high ceilings in the interior, which rise to almost 2.5 metres in the lounge. The yacht’s sleek profile features lots of exterior glass, including for the bulwarks. Her blue hull paint was developed with Alexseal while de Groot used colours, surfaces and lights to remove any hint of white. Al fresco highlights include balconies both sides of the main deck and a retractable dive board on the flybridge. The anchor windlasses are hidden within the raised bow to free up room on the foredeck for a recessed chill-out zone with pop-up table. This cool feature typifies the detailed design and engineering which went into this project. The interior features an intricate fusion of Northern European and Asian styles, some remarkable lighting displays and a wide variety of materials. These include liquid metal walls, copper accents and reconstituted teak in small wooden trims on the walls and ceilings. The master stateroom features rare Lapis Lazuli Blue marble while other fine stones include Nero Marquina and Fior di Bosco in the dining area and White Carrara in the saloon. The overall layout entirely reflects the owner’s preferences for everyday use within a multifunctional, multigenerational concept. Blue Jeans is ideal for large groups on day trips and the kind of extended stays onboard involved in her maiden voyage. Blue Jeans carries a fully-custom bare aluminium tender placed sideways in her own large garage. This set-up generated space for a large engine room with twin MTU 2600hp which give a top speed up to 28 knots.

Project: Leopard 28m

Things are getting in motion at the revived Leopard Yachts, with this 28m project starting construction in 2022.  Leopard returned back to life in 2021 acquired by Seven Stars after Paolo Picchiotti blessed the acquisition of the legendary name, which was a sub name of Cantieri Navali Arno introduced in 1973 to the avant garde Poalo Caliari designs introduced in that year, which eventually became permanent.  The Leopard 28m comes from a design of Andrea Ramasco, known for his work for Amer yachts, and naval architecture courtesy of Optima from La Spezia.  Permare is helping in the construction of this first Leopard 28m, with the new ownership having high hopes in following the success of the Paolo Caliari 27m Sport model sold in 48 units in a sixteen year production run from 1995 to 2011 which this model replaces.  The Leopard 28m will feature a sport bridge design, and a sleek profile full of windows.  Leopard is not giving any details for the interior of the 28m, although sport yachts in this size usually have a four double cabins layout with full beam owners stateroom, and two crew cabins for three or four persons.  The Leopard 28m is to be powered by triple Volvo 1000hp and IPS pod drives propulsion who should give an estimated top speed up to 32 knots and a cruise of 28.  The first unit is expected to go in the water this 2023 year.

Project: Ocea Commuter 33

Ocea present the project for the Commuter 33, which at 33 metres is the smallest of the Commuter family of yachts, which features two other larger 40 and 50 meter models.  Designing a transoceanic super yacht based on commuter boats designed for short trips on a river was no easy feat! The New York commuters in use at the beginning of the 20th century only crossed the East River, not the Pacific Ocean. However, one of the very first Ocea Commuters, Abely Wheeler, a 32.50-metre boat completed in 2004, has travelled around the world.  The Ocea Commuter 33 is designed in house and will offer a four double cabins arrangement below decks, while crew accommodation is for four persons. The Ocea Commuter is estimated to reach speeds up to eighteen knots, with a fast cruise of fourteen, and a long range of four thousand nautical miles possible at ten knots.

New Model: Azimut Grande 36M

Just a year later to the launch of the largest ever Azimut, the 38 meter Trideck flagship which has so far sold in eighteen units and deliveries going into 2026 the famous Italian name launch a two meter smaller Grande 36M, which is also a replacement to the 2017 launched Grande 35M produced till 2021 in nineteen hulls.  With only two meters smaller to the big Trideck the Grande 36M is a different second in size model, with designer Alberto Mancini giving sleeker lines, also because unlike the flagship she is a two deck with raised pilot house design.  It is interesting how the Grande 36M though looks sleek and sporty, thanks to the clever deck integration by Alberto Mancini, doing all this without losing space.  This is also happening also for the extensive use of carbon fibre for the super structure, which is part of a triumvirate high technology features going into the Grande 36M. The other two being its low emissions D2P displacent2planning hull shape by Pierluigi Ausonio and Azimut research and design which reduces fuel consumption by up to 30%, and an innovative air exchange treatment system that continually refreshes and treats the interior environments.  The Azimut Grande 36M offers two interior layouts, with this being about a private dining area on the top deck behind the pilot station or in the lower deck.  The cabin  arrangement is identical in both versions with a five double cabins layout including which is a master stateroom on the forward wide body part of the main deck.  The Azimut Grande 36M is powered by twin MTU 2200hp as standard or optional 2400hp engines with these giving top speeds up to 24 knots.  Azimut has so far sold eight hulls of the Grande 36M with deliveries going into 2025, with the yacht making its first appearance at the Cannes and Genoa fall 2022 boat shows.
