Hatteras reports on Fort Lauderdale Boat Show

Hatteras Yachts enjoyed a solid Ft. Thanks to a strong international market, the debut of the new 72 Motor Yacht, and the continuing success of its proven line of sports fishing convertibles, Hatteras secured a significant increase in retail sales and stock orders from its authorized dealer network. Class 1 - Dubai U.A.E. Mina Seyahi Preview

After an enthralling and compelling season, where spectacular racing has been matched by intense rivalries on and off the water, the final throws of the dice to decide the 2007 WPPA Class 1 World Powerboat Championship will unfold with two races in a week in Dubai, and the stage is set for yet another nail-biting finale, as the two remaining title challengers go head-to-head after a gruelling, season-long tussle. Victory 77 will line up for next weekend’s Mina Seyahi Grand Prix, round 7 of the WPPA Class 1 World Powerboat Championship, tantalisingly close to lifting their first World title and a record seventh for the mighty Dubai-based, Victory Team. If they finish ahead of their title rivals, the championship is theirs. It has been a stellar season for Sanchez and Al Zafeen, racing together for the first time. They won the season opener in Athens, with Al Zafeen becoming the first rookie to win on his Class 1 debut and two wins later, in Romania, became the first rookie, and Sanchez the first Frenchman, to win the Class 1 European Championship. Their fourth win of the season last time out at the Qatar Grand Prix in Doha means they head into the penultimate race of the season with a 22-point advantage over their nearest rivals in the overall race for honours and a slender two point lead in the Middle East Championship. Standing between Victory 77 and the title that they are so desperate to bring home, is Qatar 96, who simply have to finish ahead of Victory 77 and by a margin of three points or more if they are to take the battle for the World Championship down to the final race of the season, the Dubai Grand Prix on Saturday, 8 December. Sheikh Hassan and Nicolini are enjoying their best season to date, and with six podiums on the bounce are sure to keep the pressure on the leaders until the very last lap. Spirit of Norway’s tenure as World Champions effectively ended in Qatar, when they limped out of the race on lap 15 with engine problems, but could still add the Middle East Championship to the Edox Pole Position Championship - which they clinched in Doha with their fifth consecutive win in qualifying - by winning the final two races. Outside of the lead trio, just 24 points separate the next five boats and the scramble for points and to be the best-of-the-rest may well become an unwelcome headache for Victory 77 and Qatar 96 as they fight it out for the title. Victory 7 lead the chasing pack, and are undoubtedly quick, but have lacked the consistency seen in the opening two rounds, but if they pull it all together on race day, they will certainly be amongst the front runners. Currently lying fifth is Qatar 95, are the pick of those running V8s, and fourth place in Arendal, a podium in Romania and fourth again in Qatar confirm their credentials. The most improved outfit over the last three races is Negotiator, the only outfit in the championship running Sterling V8s, taking fifth, fourth and a podium last time out, and sees them on a hard-charge and climbing up the championship standings. Just two points behind them is Foresti & Suardi, who, after competing in the last two races in his second boat, is expected to be back in his favoured raceboat. Tom Barry-Cotter and Pal Nilsen will be trying to repeat the performances that have produced three top six finishes in their first season together, and will be aiming to add another, with Nicola Giorgi and Tomaso Polli hoping to see out the season in the Cougar with some solid points finishes. Whilst Jotun will simply be wondering when the run of bad luck that has blighted their season, will end, and will be praying that they have a trouble-free race to realise their pace and potential. The race weekend kicks off with official practice on Thursday, 29 November and the first opportunity for the teams to familiarise themselves with a revised course. A second practice session on Friday morning is followed by the Edox Pole Position in the afternoon and a final practice session on Saturday morning, followed by the Mina Seyahi Grand Prix.

The third boat for the innovate range, the 4400 included a number of firsts that included resin infusion, joint Volvo and Riviera design thinking, and IPS drive technology! Project: Fairline 55 Squadron

The new Fairline 55 Squadron project is a highly expectation project from this famous British builder. The design for this project shows a sporty modern med flybridge motor yacht and an innovative use of space. Sleek lines and beautiful external shapes are the visiting ticket, to what Fairline is promising a modern natural light with plenty of space interior layout. The new 55 Squadron follows the trend in this size category, offering a full beam owners cabin which includes an electro opaque walled bathroom transformation, something seen on the other bigger Fairline models. Interior accommodation is for a three double cabins, two heads and a single crew berth aft. The interior plans show the much requested minimal design approach especially in the upper saloon area but also demonstrate what will be one of the most spacious flybridge areas in this size category. The new Squadron 55 model will have the difficult task to follow the success of the old Squadron 55, produced from 1996 till 2003 and has been the most sold model in this highly demanded Motor Yacht range from the British builder. The challenge is encouraging!

New Model: Dalla Pieta DP 50 HT

Innovative is perhaps the most correct term to use when defining the DP 50 HT, even though it does not derive from a brand new concept, but is a successful restyling of the 48', presented at the Genoa boat show in 1997. Particular importance was given to the deck house and the stern area, with the extension of the garage that can now hold a 2.70-metre tender, while the driver's position can boast a lower deck with contemporary lines as one of the most distinctive parts of the new décor. The interior design has also been fully refreshed, with a complete change in the style of the décor, while keeping the exact same layout and leaving lots of room for custom solutions in terms of choice of timbers and wood varieties. One of the most important changes that stands out is also the possibility to turn one of the guest cabins into crew quarters, complete with bathroom, with separate access directly from the deckhouse. The powerful and reliable duo of 715 horsepower each Caterpillar engines is confirmed. The capacity of the tanks has increased from 1650 to 1900 litres. Lastly, the standard fittings have been supplemented with certain accessories that were optional in the 48'. Some of these include the automatic pilot, television and stereo in the living area, effluent containers and electronic remote control. The DP 50 HT expands the Dalla Pietà Yachts fleet with a boat that has nothing to envy bigger boats in terms of fittings and prestige.

As result, the saloon will have two independent relax areas, also the space downstairs is remarkable, particularly in the galley and in the master cabin, were we can see dimensions typically used in bigger yachts. The exterior design of Doma 7 offers three independent areas. The first of them is the solarium forward. Secondly, the cockpit with hydraulic platform provides habitability and comfort to have pleasant journeys. Finally, the solarium on the hard-top clearly identifies the innovative proposals from Doma 7. New Model: Azimut 58

Azimut continues in the updating of its motor yacht range with the introduction of the new 58. A much expected model from this World famous manufacturer which sits in between the long standing 55 Evolution and 62 Evolution models. The new Azimut 58 has many bonuses on yachts of this size dimension but most interesting is the use of minimal style to create open spaces on board, especially on the flybridge and in the saloon. As for the other solutions Azimut continue this new model with the development of huge side windows not only for the master cabin, now in three rectangle form fitted to the side in flash form but also for the VIP cabin forward. It also presents on this flybridge model the squarish bow solution we saw introduced in 2004 with the introduction of the 40/43 model. Project: Jeanneau 38 Prestige S

Whilst it will only be launched officially at the beginning of 2008, Jeanneau have unveiled the unpublished designs for the new Prestige 38 S. Although announced as far back as September 2007, no information had been made available about the new Prestige, which slots in between the Prestige 34 S and the completely new Prestige 42 S. The real novelty comes from the dual cockpit on board, a feature up until now reserved for open models over 40 feet long. The first cockpit, structured around a table, is traditionally located forward beneath the sport top, while the second, the real innovation on this boat, is located on the after deck, and can be converted to a sun pad or a comfortable settee around a second table. Another decided advantage for an open of under 40 feet is the tender garage, hidden beneath the cockpit. Fitted with a galley and extended by a huge bathing platform, the Sport Top with it's electric roof dully open becomes a particular outside/inside space. In particular, information on the interior layout reveals 2 cabins, a very large saloon and a spacious dressing room. Designed by the Italian office of Garroni Designers, the Prestige 38 S benefits from a hull developed by the well-known American designer, Michael Peters, who has already designed the hulls of the Prestige 42 and the recent Prestige 42 S for Jeanneau. The twin engines are the new Cummins QSD 4.2-320HP with stern-drive transmission. The yard is actively working on the launch of this Prestige 38 S, for which the stakes are high, since of course its arrival completes a 30 to 50 feet range of new Prestige Fly and Open power boats.

The Calima is a very spacious flybridge cruiser featuring a 3 double cabins, 2 heads accommodation finished in very warm light colored oak finish with chromed grey and silver metals additions. Based on the variable Deep Vee hull of Raffaelli, it offers a very good performance level of 30 knots with only twin 400hp Iveco Aifo engines on shaft drives, a comfortable speed considering the 18 tons of loaded weight for this cruiser. This horsepower speed configure should give superior fuel consumption levels. The new Calima continues the Raffaelli guarantee of a superior CE A Category standard, something not found much in this size of craft plus a 6 year Osmosis and structural warranty.

Class 1 - Victory 77 wins in Doha

Victory 77 took a giant step towards the coveted Class 1 world title after producing a championship winning performance to take their fourth win of the season in today’s Qatar Grand Prix, round 6 of the WPPA Class1 World Powerboat Championship, and now lead the title race by 22 points, with the final two rounds in Dubai in two weeks. Qatar 96 keep the title hopes alive, bringing home a second place, taking their sixth podium of the season, with Negotiator 50 producing the best performance of the year to grab it's first podium, taking a well deserved third place. But for the defending World Champions, Spirit of Norway, who started today’s race from pole position, there was bitter disappointment, retiring on lap 15 with a broken engine, and their title aspirations in tatters and the hopes of a sixth world title now beyond their reach.
The race was all but decided on the opening lap, with Victory 77 producing a spectacular lap to move from fourth place on the start line to lead at the end of lap one, with Spirit of Norway second, followed by Qatar 96 and Negotiator. With the three title rivals holding station and opening up a lead, Negotiator came under increasing pressure from a hard charging Jotun, who grabbed fourth place on lap four, but Negotiator responded immediately to regain the position a lap later and two laps later a technical problem ended Jotun’s race. Negotiator then held of a challenge from Qatar 95, who in turn had Victory 7, who dropped from second at the start to eighth after hooking the boat at the first corner, breathing down their necks. Over the course of the next six laps the leading trio exchanged long laps. Qatar 96 went first, followed by Spirit of Norway and the race leaders. By lap 13, with both long laps taken, Spirit of Norway had reduced the gap to Victory 77 from 12 to four seconds, but two laps later the defending champions were out, a broken engine destroying their title bid. Now in an unassailable position Victory 77 were able to cruise home and take the chequered flag and the win, with Qatar 96 crossing the line over a minute behind them. For Chris Parsonage and Bard Eker, the first podium of the year for Negotiator was a rich reward for the team. Qatar 95 were able to stave of the persistent challenge of Victory 7, with Spirit of Norway 20 taking their third top six finish of the season with Foresti & Suardi finishing in the points in Seventh, with SeveneleveN retiring early in the race. Class 1 now heads to Dubai for the Mina Seyahi Grand Prix on Saturday, 1 December, the first of two races in a week. The title race is now between two – Victory 77 and Qatar 96.

With a lot of important ideas which will capture exclusive clients in this very competitive market segment, Couach is promising an innovative Super Yacht which stands out for it's 30 knots top speed performance, something very rare in a 50 metre Motor Yacht but of most importance this performance does not effect the range with a capability of Trans-Atlantis crossing in 10 days. Constructed in strong Kevlar resins the new 5000 Fly as all Couach Yachts is a fully custom project. Other important design notes for the new French builder flagship are the superior private upper deck arrangement and the garage which when opened becomes a really live beach front. Interior accommodation is for 5 or a 6 cabins layout.

New Model: Uniesse 65 Sport

The Uniesse 65 Sport is the new model for the modern Sport range from this prestigious Italian builder. Continuing the evolution of a modern futuristic hard top design, Uniesse offers a splendid coupe Sport Yacht of classic contemporary Italian lines that always stands out, whether berthed at the marina or sailing off at sea. The new 65 Sport has the Uniesse family feeling outside but also down below, thanks to a superior hull design from American Fred Hudson which gives this North Italian builder the rightful fame for a superior comfortable ride in the tough weather situations. The accommodation for this new model is also equally spacious offering 3 separate spacious double cabins all with there own heads and that includes the large full beam owners cabin and the L-shaped galley down below. Crew accommodation is for 1 person with a complete cabin located aft. As it is expected from Uniesse the performance for this new model is also very good considering the not so big 900hp MAN engines giving a top speed of 34 knots, when making the sums of a 65 feet Yacht weighing at 30 Tons plus it is very impressive indeed.

Class 1 - Doha Qatar Preview

Home team Qatar 96 second in the charts will try to win the all important home GP

With three races remaining in the 2007 WPPA Class 1 World Powerboat Championship, the race for the title is reaching fever pitch. Fuelled by an intense rivalry, the sports three heavyweights, Victory 77, Qatar 96 and Spirit of Norway 10, remain locked in an unforgiving three-way battle for championship honours, with no quarter asked and none given. The fast and flowing circuit around Palm Tree Island on Doha Bay has seen some spectacular racing action and dramatic incidents in recent years, and this year’s Qatar Grand Prix, round 6 of the WPPA Class 1 World Powerboat Championship, could well prove pivotal in the outcome of title race. Victory 77 led the championship standings from round one in Athens, and with the luxury of an 18 points advantage, hold the whip-hand in the title race, and although they would clearly like to try and wrap things up sooner than later, with points in hand do not need to take risks or push for the race win in Doha. But they are being stalked with a ferocious intent by Qatar 96 and the defending World Champions in Spirit of Norway, both outfits posting notice last time out at the Egyptian Grand Prix in Porto Marina, that neither is in any mood to concede the title without a monumental fight, and both finishing ahead of the current leaders after a memorable race – Spirit grabbing their second win of the season, with Qatar 96 second and Victory 77, third. The title battle is intriguing – Qatar 96 and Spirit of Norway must win - at least finish ahead of Victory 77 in Doha and in the remaining races – but that still may not be enough, so will be looking to team-mates, Qatar 95 or in Spirit of Norway’s case, the likes of Jotun and Negotiator, to join the fight for podium places and points and shut out the leaders, whilst Victory 77 will look to their team-mates in Victory 7 to get ahead of or between them and their championship rivals. After impressive performances in Egypt, where both challenged strongly for podium finishes before technical problems ended their hopes, Qatar 95 and Jotun – both running the Mercury V8s - look likely challengers to cause the top three problems, and will be hoping for trouble free runs to give themselves the chance to capitalise on their pace. Negotiator could also be up there in the mix, now that they have found reliability with the Sterling V8s and will be looking to improve on their fourth place in Egypt. The first action takes place today, with the first official practice session, giving the teams the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the revised course around Palm Tree Island on Doha Bay. Second practice on Friday is followed by the fifth Edox Pole Position of the season in the afternoon, with the final practice session and the 20 lap, 92.88Nm Qatar Grand Prix on Saturday, 17 November. Of the leading protagonists, Spirit of Norway has by far the best record in Doha winning five times since the first Qatar Grand Prix was held in 2002. Victory 77 grabbed their only win here in 2005 and last year the Qatar Camp took their first win on home waters, with Qatar 95 stealing the headlines from Qatar 96 – but this weekend it just might be their turn to take the race win.

Project: Rodman 44 Muse

The new Rodman Muse 44 is based on two principles, powerful performance and elegant modern lines. Each item of this new model from the famous Spanish constructor responds to a need, and noting is left to chance on board. The new Rodman is optimized for the best use of space and designer Fulvio De Simoni did the best in providing a superior spacious thirteen metre flybridge cruiser with an incredibly spacious 3 double cabin accommodation. This incredible interior space is the result of the use of Volvo's innovative IPS propulsion, which the new 44 Muse can be credited as being one of the very first few flybridge cruisers build and projected around this system. Apart from the extra accommodation the new IPS will give the new Rodman a superior performance and economy, which should make it as the top choice for those looking for a medium to large flybridge cruiser.

New Model: Sarnico 65 Special

The flagship of the range, forerunner of the coupè fleet, is proposed in a new “Special” version. The interiors of the boat have been completely reshaped in order to offer an even more comfortable and pleasant owner suite. The owner’s cabin covers a wider surface, in correspondence to the centre of the hull, where the boat is more steady. The open space is made even larger by the new side window, that changes the look of the sides and allows a spectacular panoramic view. The furniture is built in order to increase the wardrobe volume. The suite is completed by a true bathroom, provided with a broad shower box. Of course the other characteristics and the whole quality remain unchanged. The guests may comfortably stay in the VIP bow cabin or in the stern one, with independent access from the cockpit and completely isolated from the saloon, for a better privacy. Both cabins have direct access to their bathroom, each one provided with shower box. The salon maintains enough space to host a living space with a table and a fully equipped galley. The crew cabin and a hallway with all household appliances complete the under deck layout. Key elements of the success remain the sharp line and the hard top, whose frontal opening, starting from the upper side of the windshield, enables to air the cockpit and fully appreciate the speed sensation from the piloting position. Although sporty, the Sarnico 65 always shows a clear elegance which makes it standing out from the other boats of similar typology. Despite the dimensions and the displacement, it reaches 39 knots with two 1360hp engines.

Projects: Blu Martin S.T. 62, Blu Martin S.T. 55

Following Sun Top 13.50 success, Blu Martin introduces its new flagship project, the Blu Martin S.T. 62'. This 18.70 metres sports yacht comes to light by developing the already successful concepts so greatly appreciated like practicality, extremely high quality materials and important standard equipment which are the shipyard's unique characteristics. The project revolves around the idea of creating a yacht that makes life on board simple with the rear closing and total opening of the cockpit, creating a unique space revolving around the dinette, at the same time offering an area of full weather protection. On her exterior, the Family feel has been maintained, though not renouncing to innovative solutions such as the opening Lexan covering and large piezoelectric liquid crystal obscuring glazed back. Blumartin presents the new Blu Martin S.T. 55', created to continue its project and to enable its devoted customers to grow together with the shipyard. Following the success of the Sun Top 13.50 and Sea Top 13.90 models there was need for a bigger model to enable the more demanding customers to plough the sea with a bigger more prestigious yacht. Developing the winning concepts which has enabled the Blumartin brand to make a reputation for itself in so little time and to be appreciated in every port, we have created the new Blu Martin S.T. 55', a sport yacht standing in between the big S.T. 62 and Sea Top 1390. The Blu Martin S.T. 55' brings together the stylistic experiences and solutions of the previous models: so here is the distinct division between the sleeping area and the living area. Below, the large cabins with two bathrooms and a nice galley, outside the cockpit living area, with a large leather sofa, a comfortable table and an equipped cupboard, enclosed by a back glass wall which shelters completely from the atmospheric elements and enables you to enjoy the ship in every season and in every weather condition. A large and safe side passage enables the guests to enjoy the entire 16 metres length of the ship easily, moving safely from the large stern sundeck to the comfortable bow cushions. Finally a nice garage contains a tender of 2,80 mts with rigid keel. The standard interior layout, contains a forward VIP double cabin, with direct access to the bathroom, a guest cabin with two single beds which can be turned into a king size bed and a full beam owner's cabin, midships with own private bathroom. Standard engine is the new Volvo IPS800 or as an optional, shaft driven engines Volvo Penta 670hp or Caterpillar 715hp.
