Azimut Thinking Ahead

Azimut Yachts chose the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show for the debut in the United States of the new 53, the model awarded "Motorboat of the Year 2010" by a selected team of journalists and the UK magazine Motorboat & Yachting. Azimut will also present the 72S in Fort Lauderdale and the 38 is to be launched at the New York Boat Show in January. Azimut also presents Grande and Magellano: "Made in Italy" enjoys a rebirth, to the USA. The novelty of the season that has just started goes further than the debut of these three new models. Two further collections are ready to cross over the ocean to offer the best of contemporary Italian style to American boat owners. From this year, Azimut Yachts offers its clients Azimut Grande: a range of yachts above 30 metres and a portfolio of services dedicated to owners of megayachts. Innovative services that also include the availability of the Personal Design Team, a unique group of specialists that can reach the client anywhere in the World, to discuss the design, collect the individual wishes and quickly present the proposal that will translate dreams into reality. Furthermore, American boat owners will have the possibility of discovering the Magellano Collection, that is enriched this year with the new 50, presented at the worldwide preview at the International Boat Show of Genova in October. The Azimut range is boosted by a new category with the Magellano Collection and offers products that are market-leading in terms of their minimum environmental impact. The interest shown in the new Azimut Magellano 50 has gone further than the wildest forecasts, with significant commercial success: after only two weeks from its launch, the Magellano 50 was sold out for the whole 2010/2011 season. However, Azimut Yachts can confirm that the boat will be present in the States in the autumn of 2011 at the most important American shows. Azimut also presents three new dealers in the USA: growing its network and improving the service. The official distribution network of Azimut Yachts is increasing. New dealership contracts have been signed to cover Central America. The new dealers are Ever Marine in Panama, IYG in Colombia and the Landon Marine Group in Costa Rica.

Azimut-Benetti Group Extend CMD Agreement

CMD Marine has extended its long-term supply agreement with Italy's Azimut-Benetti Group (ABG) for another three years. The company will continue to provide the Italian motoryacht producer with its full line marine propulsion systems, from sterndrive products to the QSM11-litre 715hp engine, until 2013. The agreement affects production at Azimut's Avigliana yard in Italy, Orhangazi-Bursa in Turkey (where the Azimut Marine joint venture is located) and Atlantis Gropparello in Italy.

Bavaria Nominated European Powerboat of the Year

Only just presented to the world at the ´interboot´ boat show in Friedrichshafen, the new Bavaria Sport 34 has now been nominated to European Powerboat of the Year. The latest model of the innovative Bavaria Sport Series, which was designed in close cooperation with BMW Group DesignworksUSA, a subsidiary of the BMW Group, impresses with its sportiness, dynamic and well-formed proportions. The Sport 34 is nominated in the category motor boats up to 40 feet maximum amongst four other motorboats. Thanks to the well thought-through design, Bavaria concepted a 34-feet yacht that offers much more space for its actual size. Keen onlookers can take place next to the driver on an extra spare seat, whilst sun worshipers relax on the wellness sun lounger behind the windscreen. The treasured award is also known as the ´Oscar of the boating industry´ and is handed out each year at the boat show ´boot´ in Düsseldorf, Germany. Bavaria could already take home two prizes in the past two year: the Sport HT 30 won in 2009; in 2010 the Deep Blue 46 was awarded Powerboat of the Year. The jury is a team compiled of editors and testers, choosing the 20 most interesting models for four categories from all newly released boats. Hereby the team puts special emphasis on safety standards, quality, handling and driving characteristics, space layout as well as the value to price ratio. The list of all nominated boats is a good indication of the trends and innovations on the market today.

Broom Building Boats Again

Broom Boats Ltd, Britain's longest established boat-building firm, is to start building its power cruisers again after a major re-organization. It is only three months after it changed hands under difficult financial circumstances. The news, which should reassure many boat owners and those in the Norfolk Broads boat construction business, follows actions by new investors who took the company over in July and have since carried out a major financial re-organization. Boat-builder C.J.Broom Ltd., the subsidiary company of 112-year-old Broom Boats Ltd., of Brundall, Norfolk, went into voluntary liquidation two months ago with major debts and redundancies. Tuesday October 19th, 2010 investor Mark Garner, now managing director, said that a total business review, re-organization and a new dealer network has been completed and this has provided Broom with sales worth 1.5- 2.5 million, sufficient to re-employ some of our past talented boat-building craftsmen. The new sales are for up to seven new cruisers being built in the next 12 months and work has already started. The Broom marina and boat service and repair business which always operated under the Broom Boats Ltd banner did not lose money in its own right and is largely un-affected. Mr Garner also announced a new major investor and director to aid development. He is entrepreneur Tony Chancellor of Norfolk. In future, prospective owners will buy only from dealers, not direct from Broom. The new dealer network includes two new firms. One is Norfolk Yacht Agency, a sales organization which moves around 300 new and used boats a year and which has already brought in an order worth more than 650,000 - for a Broom 450, twin engines luxury cruiser capable of 30 knots. Broom has also appointed a new Thames region dealer, Thames Boat Sales of Bray, run by Dominic Smulders. He and the other existing dealers, in Ireland, Holland and Germany, also Newark, have confirmed or have pending, subject to finance, sales worth up to a further 2 million which should keep the reduced building force busy for a year. A new Broom 395 is already in build at the yard and a 450 will start within the next few days.

Ferretti Group Open Brazil Showroom

Italy's Ferretti Group recently inaugurated its new Toys and Tools showroom in São Paulo, Brazil. Located in the Cidade Jardim shopping centre, the 1,000m2 showroom follows the creation of Ferretti Group Brasil in April this year. The new company was set up by Ferretti and Brazilian boatbuilder Spirit to provide sales and aftersales service on the Brazilian market. As a Ferretti Group licensee, Spirit now plans to open a 32,000m2 production facility in São Paulo by the end of 2010. At full capacity, the plant will be able to produce up to 130 yachts of up to 24m (80ft) per year.

Ferretti Yachts Further Acknowledgement in China

Ferretti Yachts, historical brand of the Ferretti Group, producing flybridge motoryachts measuring 15 to 27 metres, continues to expand in China, which has been further confirmed by the many top, high visibility acknowledgements of international importance it has received: the Robb Report Best of the Best Award and the Hurun Report Best of Italian Luxury. Robb Report China, a prestigious magazine devoted to the world of excellence, recently presented Ferretti Yachts’ new 750 with the “Best Of the Best Award”. This award follows the “Asian Marine & Boating Awards” that awarded Ferretti Yachts in May on occasion of the China International Boat Show 2010. During the awards ceremony, held in Beijing at an event held specially for the most representative international brands, Ferretti 750 won the award in the “best mid-size yachts” category. In addition, in Shanghai Ferretti Yachts was awarded by the important Best of Italian Luxury Award assigned to the best expressions of Made in Italy: Ferretti Yachts is the only marine industry brand that received this recognition. The event was organized by Hurun Report magazine and sponsored by the Consulate General of Italy and the Institute for Foreign Trade in Shanghai.

Heesen Sign Sixth Contract in 2010

Heesen Yachts is proud to announce the signing of its sixth new-build contract in 2010. Following the sale of two 47-Metre full-displacement yachts, a 37-Metre semi-displacement yacht, and two all aluminum fully customized builds, one of 50-metres and the other of 35-metres. The sale of this 65-Metre fast displacement yacht represents the cherry on the cake for Heesen’s sales department. Following the positive results of tank tests completed at the Wolfson Unit in April 2010, Heesen Yachts announced the revolutionary 65-Metre concept based on the Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) during the Monaco Yacht Show in September. The FDHF is the result of design studies and tank tests carried out over 20 years by the highly respected Dutch Naval Architects, Van Oossanen and Associates. At the end of the presentation Fabio Ermetto announced the signing of the contract for this revolutionary yacht, which will be delivered to her owners in June 2013. The construction of the 65-Metre Fast Displacement will start in mid-December 2010 at the Heesen shipyard in Oss, the Netherlands. While the aluminum hull will be manufactured in shed number six, the yacht will be fitted out in the dry dock in shed number five, which will be lengthened by about twelve meters to accommodate the 65-Metre yacht.

Intermarine Ends Azimut Agreement

Intermarine shipyard in Brazil, ends the past 12 years agreement with Azimut Yachts building their models in Brazil by license sold exclusively in the South American country. Due to the market needs, where the weather is pleasant during the entire year, the yachts built by Intermarine were different from the Italians, with longer cockpits and swim platforms, more powerful engines and generators, diverse interior layout, and different decoration, even though the exterior looked like an Azimut model. Intermarine also kept building a range of high performance boats of its own during the period of the partnership with the Italian group. In 2009 Intermarine and Azimut Yachts discussed the possible acquisition of Intermarine, after its owner´s death at the beginning of the year. The negotiation did not work out and each company decided to continue with its own strategy. At this moment we are preparing to discontinue all the models built under Azimut´s license, whose contract is valid until 07/31/2011, but Intermarine has declared it will conclude the production months before the contract is expired. Now managed by an experienced board of directors, Intermarine decided to build a totally new product range of its own, projected by renowned design studios: BMW Group DesignworksUSA, Luiz de Basto Designs and Fernando de Almeida Yacht Design. The task given to the talented design studios is to create Intermarine´s new design identity with focus on innovation, premium quality and performance. At the São Paulo Boat Show last week Intermarine presented as pre-launch four new models that, among others, will be on the water on the next year: 55 designed by BMW Group DesignworksUSA, 60 designed by Intermarine in collaboration with Fernando de Almeida Yacht Design, 75, and 85 both designed by Luiz de Basto Designs. Three other new models will be launched in 2011 and more will come in 2012. Even though projected by different design studios, the new models share a family feeling. When the new models the range will be complete and Intermarine´s new design identity will be strong and unique. Exportation is also included on Intermarine´s strategy for the future. Brazil is one of the most important markets for the nautical industry at the moment and is the shipyard focus but others markets are also part of Intermarine´s target.

All three will be a first for the Americas, Turkish and Croatian markets. Riviera dealers Navtika Centar Nava in Croatia and IVI Yacht Sales in Istanbul, Turkey sold both Sport Yachts sight unseen to the new owners who will no doubt be cruising the Mediterranean during the summer months, while the third 5000 Sport Yacht has been shipped to Florida where it will be on display at the annual Fort Lauderdale Boat Show which starts on October 28. Riviera Qld Fraser Island Experience

A fleet of 21 Rivieras ranging from early model Flybridges through to the latest model 5800 Sport Yacht embarked on a 350 nautical mile round journey from the Gold Coast to Fraser Island earlier this month for R Marine Queensland’s annual Great Sandy Strait experience. R Marine Queensland dealer principal Randall Jones said every year they chose a marine theme to give them safe travel and this year it was the Starfish. Mike and Jan Bolton on board their 40 foot Open Flybridge, Relajar, which means relax in Spanish, were among the fleet of 21 Rivieras. This was the maiden ocean voyage for the Brisbane couple who purchased their Riviera nine months ago. Mike said highlights of the five-day trip included the beach party where Riviera owners and their families enjoyed cocktails and hors d'oeuvres near Kingfisher Bay Resort, cruising into Tin Can Bay, the parties on board and the Seafood Festival. Although this was not the first time Mike and Jan had been to Fraser Island, it was the first time by boat. Mike said it was a totally different experience with views of the island rather than the bush and ocean. On the journey north, the fleet moored at Mooloolaba in Queensland’s Sunshine Coast for the first night where the crew went ashore to enjoy dinner at the Hogs Breath Café before a dawn start the next day.

Sunseeker Says Peters and May are Transport Experts

The official magazine of Sunseeker, recently distributed at the prestigious Boat Show in Southampton, England recognized marine journalist, Julian Gollogly, noted the trusted relationship that has developed between Sunseeker, the leading motor yacht builder and international boat shipping leader, Peters & May. The two companies have worked together for over a decade and now, as Sunseeker's Official Worldwide Logistics Provider, Peters and May ships the majority of Sunseeker's new boats from its manufacturing center in Dorset, on England's South Coast, to ports from Hong Kong to Miami and from Dubai to Australia. Since 2008, as its Approved Freight Forwarder, Sunseeker credits Peters and May as a company that "Knows no Bounds" despite the challenges created by Sunseeker's growing number of yachts, and their growing proportions, including the newest 40 meter (130') yacht seen at Southampton. Peters and May ships approximately 300 new Sunseeker yachts annually of all sizes, to all parts of the world. Peters and May's in-house professionals efficiently handle "minutae" notes Gollogly, from customs clearance and specialist shipping documentation, customs, insurance and legalities, providing dedicated boat loadmasters, surveyors and equipment including shipping cradles. While Hong Kong and the Mediterranean are considered regular service areas, less frequent routes are planned individually with painstaking attention to detail to provide the best service at the best price. Planning particular sailing dates, surveys, and customized shipping covers, arranging delivery skippers and personnel en route and at the destination, ensuring smooth operations at both export and import, as well as providing proper loading and unloading are all a part of Peters and May's services. In addition to shipping its yachts, Peters and May also supports the entire Sunseeker network in the delivery of spare parts and after-market items to customers and dealers worldwide. Earlier this year, Peters and May shipped a new flybridge Sunseeker 88 Yacht from Rotterdam to Hong Kong in just 25 days.

Projects: Uniesse 53 HT, Uniesse 55 Sport, Uniesse 60 HT

Uniesse presents three projects set to be unveiled in 2011. Two of these projects are fully new models destined to fill the new HT range presented in 2007 with the launching of the 75HT. Above is in fact the first of these being the 53 HT. This fully new Uniesse will have a three double cabin two shower heads layout and although its owner suite is located to fore it is made in a way as to feel a full beam affair. The main deck which is the novelty of the HT range is fully closing, thanks to patio doors and sunroof opening. The Uniesse 55 Sport is a new model based on the 2003 launched 54. Similar to the 54 here in this new project is just the hull, as the rest comes from an evolution rethinking of the spaces offered by the patio door design. So its not just redesigning of the superstructure and adding a door to the wheel house area. But all the spaces onboard follow a new pattern from the aft deck, going to inside, and the three double cabins area below. For example on the 55 Sport you will loose the saloon in the lower deck, but thanks to this the owners stateroom while still located forward is moved further aft, and its head is moved to the fore peak. This makes it possible to take advantage of the full beam of the yacht, without complicating technical matters as when moving the owners room to midship. Another advantage is also that the two guest cabins keep a good space. Galley remains below, but the saloon is on the main deck covered under the hard top or fully open to sun and light. Uniesse 60 HT project is the pearl of the three new offers from this quality renowned North Italian builder. Not only for its larger size but for having a very intelligent use of spaces and the right mix of US European influenced design. Compliment this with Uniesse sea keeping fame of Jim Wynn Walt Walters derived hulls and this should actually be hard to miss for those looking for a top tier boat. The plan shows a well spacious aft deck, which also give an L-shaped mezzanine style table, and an unbeatable lower deck with a full beam midship owners room, VIP suite to fore, third double with en-suite shower head, and galley below. Also to note is that all these three new Uniesse projects feature a CE A certification.

New Model: Ferretti 500

A model this of the Ferretti 500, which is a further development of the 470. Unlike the also new 620, which is developed on the 592, the 500 is more subtle in its changes, having Ferretti increased the aft deck thanks to a one foot and a half extension of the length, and for adding four large hull windows to cater for the owners suite, and the two guest midship rooms. For the rest the 500 builds on the nice touches of the 470 like the astern galley, which is still the best place to locate the kitchen especially if you cruise in the Mediterranean or hot climate spots. Although fair to say Ferretti do loose the small dinette they used to give in there previews saloon layouts. Power also remains the same of twin 600hp Cummins, which will loose a one knot of max and cruise speed versus the 470 even tough preliminary displacement weights are quoted as the same. Personally I think that Ferretti with the 500 missed a chance to make it more competitive and interesting versus what the competition is offering, but then may be that's another story of economics as is to start the line at quite a large size of fifty feet.
Technical Data:
LOA - 15.11 m (49.7ft)

Engine: Volvo D13-700MC 700hp

Volvo Penta is introducing the D13, a new inboard marine diesel for marine commercial applications. The D13 in 700hp versions delivers impressive performance with low fuel consumption and minimal exhaust emissions. It is suitable for fast patrol boats in high speed operations as well as for performance work boats requiring low life-cycle costs. Massive low-end torque is also the feature of Volvo Penta’s inboard diesels from low rpm, a prerequisite for rapid and safe acceleration. The new D13 is equipped with Volvo Penta’s highly efficient twin-entry turbo with pulse charging, the power in each exhaust pulse provides the pulse pressure. Another important feature is that the D13 retains a very high torque throughout its speed range. This makes it possible to maintain good operating speed even with a heavily loaded boat or in rough seas. EMS 2, the engine control system developed by Volvo, regulates fuel injection and monitors engine conditions. The system controls the unit injectors, one per cylinder, which operate at a pressure of as much as 2000 bar and atomize the fuel for optimum combustion. The result of this efficient combustion is lower fuel consumption for the D13 than the previous model, at the same power output. The D13 is also very low on noxious emissions and particulates. All versions are certified to the IMO NOx Tier 2, EU IWW, and US EPA Tier 2 requirements. They also meet the upcoming US EPA Tier 3 emission regulations the world’s most stringent. The D13 is available with quick-shift reverse gear that provides very fast but soft shifting with a minimum delay. The reverse gear also comes with a low speed function as standard, which means that the speed when idling drops by 50%. Low-speed mode is available as an option for all reverse gears. The D13-700 have the same robust basic architecture as the Volvo D9, D11, and D16 inline-6 diesel engine platform. The platform features a robust block design, wet liners, rear-end transmission, ladder frame and a single cylinder head with overhead camshaft operating 4 valves per cylinder and the injectors. This contributes to smooth running, high reliability and long-term durability. www.volvopenta.com

New Model: SACS 13 Strider Coupe

Not really a new model as its hull and design are identical to the Lancia di Lancia model launched in Genoa last year, but the SACS 13 Strider Coupe is in actual fact the standard version. Here Christian Grande as in the Lancia version presents nice solutions to this Rib Cruiser like the wind screen opening which take you to the fore deck, and the intelligent use of spaces onboard. Accommodation is for two berths inside, a separate shower head, and a living area with galley outside in the deep cockpit. Project: Estensi 640 Maine

Estensi who had quite a success in Italy with its US inspired line of produced boats presents the 640 Maine project, third model of this line and its largest ever built yacht. The Maine is Estensi line of Explorer Yachts with a Vee shape deep fore foot and flat aft hull which makes good for medium speeds of around 20 knots but also slower economic with a longer range at around 10 knots. As expected due to its larger size the 640 Maine shall boasts better the live aboard features of this range, and offer more spaces. Its lower deck presents an impressive four cabin plan, plus two crew aft with all the cabins looking rather large on plan, and the owner stateroom being a full beam mid ship affair. Worth to note is that all of the guest berths have no bunk berths too. The main deck being the living area is a split level saloon based on Italian style with a separate galley located in the middle, welcoming saloon aft, and dining area by the helm to fore. Reaching to the flybridge is from an internal and external stair case. The fly is reserved as an area of relaxing with an area aft usable for free moving deckchairs, C-shaped dinette, and helm. Standard power is to be from twin 600hp engines.

New Model: Rio 54 Colorado

After a couple decades concentrating in the medium sizes Rio returns to the over fifteen meters large dimension with the new 54 Air presented in Genoa. Rio had in the early nineties the revolution looking 16.90 its still biggest ever built yacht to date which at the time had an average success, but in my understanding this new flagship of the current range has all the right cards to worry the competition. It has looks, super finishing details, and most of all a space which is unbelievable and seems coming from a boat minimum to three meters longer. The new flagship also comes after North Italian builder Rio updated all its cruiser hard top Air, and soft top Art models in the last three years and my understanding is that a huge input came from this experience which resulted in unique spaces. Rio's new flagship has also the latest gadgets of invisible patio door to make the main deck an all weather area fully open or closed, up down hydraulic platform, sun pad conversion to the C-shaped settee aft, and ZF Zeus pod drive technology with joystick. Its interior follows also latest trends of a full beam midships owners stateroom, VIP to fore with scissor movement which becomes two single beds, and a third spacious L-shaped cabin. You also get a single roomy crew cabin with shower head located to midships, which unlike other boats is not an after thought and has a separate entrance. Rio also follows other builders as Pershing and Sessa and in the 54 present a designer galley located on the lower deck, here made by Italian ArcLinea in a unique stainless wood combination finishing. Power is from twin Cummins 600hp propelled by ZF Zeus pod drives with dual props.

Project: Tiara 3100 Open

Tiara continues the introduction of new projects and after just launching the 4500 Sovran goes on its next step by presenting the new 3100 Open. This is a back to the future kinda of project with this quality renowned US builder challenging itself to one of its most successful boats ever, the nineties built 3100 Open. The project of the new 3100 Open gives a nod to tradition, in particular versatility you expect from a Tiara Open series, which is surely given considering this company is renowned as top tier in quality, new design and technology. Tiara for the new 3100 Open which should launch in a few days at Fort Lauderdale show is promising a cockpit with significant space thanks to this model superior beam. The 3100 also borrows cues from her larger latest introduced Open siblings, the 3900 and 4300 by sporting a new double wide mezzanine seat that provides great sight lines and abundant storage, unmatched helm visibility, and similar looking windshield. New Model: Austin Parker AP72 Fly

After starting its relaunching program in the most difficult times with the Fulvio De Simoni designed 42 Open just about a year ago, Austin Parker launches its third model with the AP72 Fly, the new flagship. The AP 72 Fly is a traditional yacht which inspires itself above the waterline to the classic down east lobster boat lines, but with a planning Vee hull below. Classic cues are the upright bow, or the smart ship sides, but none the less although still being a very sea keeping vessel down below there is little taking from the lobster collecting boats of the down East US. The AP72 Fly wants to compete with similar traditional lobster inspired yachts as the Mochi, Abati and the French Arcoa just to name a few. For sure it is presenting itself with all the credits to make a big challenge, with its very Italian style finished four cabin interior wrapping up well with the exterior De Simoni looks. Surely the video also shows a boat which navigates very nice, and takes moderate seas with extreme ease. So far Abati has started its new course in good direction with the company declaring to having sold nine in less to a year of the 42 Open, and three of this 72 Fly. Good job to them and designer De Simoni who presented very qualified looks to all the range.

Projects: Benetti Class 164 Vision Supreme, Benetti Class 132 Classic Supreme

After presenting its new semi custom Class line, which also meant the introduction of five new models, Benetti enriches this with two further totally new projects. Unlike the other projects introduced, these two models are totally new, design from up to down, and hull shape. The 164 Vision Supreme above will be the largest of Benetti's Class semi custom line and is designed by Stefano Righini exterior, and Francois Zuretti interior. Definitely semi custom here is an under statement as the only thing the same will just be the outside. Accommodation in this three decks plus flybridge super yacht will be for twelve guests and eleven crew. Speed is an estimated 16 knots with twin Cat engines. At 49 meters the 164 Vision Supreme is also a new challenge for the Azimut Benetti Group, as it will be its largest ever made fiberglass construction. Both the two new Benetti projects represent a challenge to the since 1873 founded builder, as the Vision above is the largest fiberglass construction ever made, the 132 Classic Supreme hits to one of the most sold super yachts. The Classic series first as 35, then as 120, and now as 121 has sold over fifty units in less to a ten year span surely a top selling number for a thirty five metre plus of length Super Yacht. The new Classic Supreme 132 will be a forty meter three decks plus flybridge deck, and will sit between the smaller top selling 121 Classic, and larger 140 Crystal. Design is again to Stefano Righini exterior, and Francois Zuretti interior. Accommodation is for ten guests in five cabins, and seven crew members. Twin Cat engines should give a 15 knots top speed to a RINA Cross of Malta Class fiberglass constructed 132 Classic Supreme.

New Model: Ferretti Custom Line 26 Navetta Crescendo

Ferretti Custom Line presented the new 26 Navetta Crescendo in Cannes what is the first model to be produced in the new semi-displacement line. Crescendo is Italian for growing although Ferretti press department explains that it represents the note build up phase in classic music. The 26 Navetta Crescendo is the natural development of the previous 26 Navetta the smallest of the semi-displacement line, and continues the never stopping close working relationship between Studio Zuccon International Project, Ferretti Group Advanced Yacht Technology naval research and design centre, and the team of architects designers at the recently opened Centro Stile of Ferretti Group. This new model is a rethinking of the previous model with more stream line shaped features in more synthesis the main deck and upper deck windows but still complementing the usual classical external Navetta lines. Light coloured elm wood was chosen for hull one, with sand and dove grey colours used for on-board details create a warm, welcoming environment. Still Ferretti Custom Line points out that furnishings, fabrics and decor can be personalised according to owners’ preferences who, with the aid of the Centro Stile architects and designers, can choose from the proposals offered by top Italian and international companies. Inside the 26 Navetta Crescendo can accommodate eight or ten guests, depending on the layout chosen. New Model: Viking 70 Convertible

Viking launches the new 70 Convertible which completes the change into its bigger sized models which all come with the introduction of the Super Sportfish 82 flagship introduced two years ago. In my understanding the 70 Convertible should replace the 68, and takes look cues from the 76, and 82 models on the outside with a raked stem which has eight feet of free board on the bow, and the sheer line that tapers aft to just three feet. The aft deck cockpit features a nineteen squared metres area, with observation mezzanine that provides ample stowage, multiple freezers, an insulated refrigerated drink box in the salon entrance step, plenty of drawers, and engine room access. The lower cockpit fish combat area provides a sizeable fish box, a stowage compartment, and an available live well beneath the molded nonslip sole, and at the transom. The accommodation for the saloon is a flush open deck having a forward galley with three bar stools, L-shaped sofa, and dinette. Standard lower deck accommodation is for four double cabins all with en-suite heads. Cabins three and four offer both bunk berths, and the master room is located to mid ship. A tournament proven center console helm on the flying bridge features three adjustable Murray helm seats, port and starboard lounges each with rod stowage below and aft facing jump seats, and third lounge ahead of the helm. Power options to the Viking 70 Convertible are a total of four choices from MAN, Cats, and MTU from standard 1550 to 2600hp. Hull one of the 70 Convertible featured the biggest choice of twin MTU 2600hp which touched a wide open throttle speed of 43 knots.

Project: Beneteau 32 Antares

After revamping all the Antares range in the 2009 season Beneteau presents the project for a new 32 in this range. Designed by Sarrazin the 32 Antares, is based on the 30 and will be the smallest twin engined flybridge in the Beneteau range. As to everything there is two sides of every coin and while the twin engines of the 32 Antares gives easier manoeuvrability in port, better balance underway, and greater security you will be paying a price for more fuel of about 30% at the pump and a double to service and parts. Accommodation for the 32 Antares offers a two cabin interior same to the 30, minus the engine room. Sizes are all also the same to the single engined 30 Antares, although beam is surprisingly slimmer by six centimetres for the twin engined 32 Antares. www.beneteau.com

New Model: Haines 400

Haines is a UK builder mostly known at home who specialize on British looking motor cruisers. This Norfolk based boat builder recently launched its latest flagship model the 400 which was presented the past July, and made its official debut during the Southampton 2010 show. Although I found about them only recently, Haines has been in business for thirty years since 1980, and is good to see a company still believing in improving and taking to the future a British looking design. The new Haines 40o is as any pure British cruiser a forty feet aft cabin motor cruiser with a superstructure design by Justin Haines. Having contemporary British looks with proven sea keeping ability, the 400 represents a leap forward for Haines upgrading its size by five feet from its previous large offer, but having also choices at heart in hull shape planning or displacement, engines single or twin, wood type options, but also for a further dinette to port which reduces the galley size. The 400 incorporates latest trends toward light spacious living areas, with large bonded windows and roof hatches. The exterior plan offers a large enclosed aft deck area with seating for eight, double helm to starboard with an easy to operate canopy, and wide side decks for safety which lead to the fore deck sunbathing area cushions forward. Interior accommodation plan presents a U-shaped saloon, entertainment centre with TV on the aft bulk head, and galley with two large double master cabins with spacious en-suites below. The galley is an impressive feature of the 400 with spaces abounding and full beam offset size from port to starboard sides and includes a large stainless fridge freezer, four burner hob, combination oven microwave, and good work top space. Fitting out is in light oak veneer finish with walnut steps, flooring to the galley, feature panels, along with blinds to all windows giving a contemporary look. Hull one which featured a planning hull was fitted with twin Volvo 330hp engines giving 30 knots wide open throttle speeds. Important to note that choices are part of the 400 not only in hull shape planning or displacement, engines single or twin, wood type options, but also for a further dinette to port which reduces the galley size.

Projects: Calafuria 30 Swim Version, Calafura 30 Fly

Calafuria is a known boat builder in Italy who built his fame for building sea worthy boats, and was also among the first to introduce modern hull solutions to the traditional local Italian fishing boat the Gozzo. Here Calafuria presents two new projects, both based on the same 30 platform. Showing the rendering above is the 30 Swim Version which is a closed pilot type traditional cruiser which features modern touches which add better on board living solutions. Options are also at heart in this project offering a total of three variations to the interior. Choices vary from separate owners room, to a Vee twin berth, and galley up or down. The 30 Fly is in fact a reediting of the same previous model which is shorter in overall length by 59 centimeters, and wider by two. The most visible difference for this new version is the flybridge which has more modern looks. Options are again a part of this project which has choices for three variations, here concerning always the lower deck. A different option in this size is surely the lower deck fully dedicated fully to a single cabin having a settee, separate shower room, head, and central island berth. You also have a four berth open plan choice. In all the choices the galley remains on the main deck. Power for both these new Calafuria 30 model which in fact over 34 feet is for a max twin 320hp diesel engines choice.

New Model: Italian Yachts 72 Jaguar

Since I saw the rendering for the new Italian Yachts 72 Jaguar over a year ago I was inspired by its looks, mostly because it has a very sport profile to its lines. Designer Roberto Angel who comes from the school of designer Paolo Caliari this one being a big contributor in the seventies and eighties to the copied by everyone Italian modern yacht, keeps the Jaguar heritage to the entry level Genoa built Italian Yachts 72, and presented an aggressive looking sport yacht which looks going fast even when tied up. But the 72 Jaguar is not only this. It also features practical elements like its deep side decks, which take you safely to the fore peak but here developing into a full beam protected area. The fore deck is also a clever and modular having an area with a forward looking settee, and a different central circle shaped sun pad. Not a first here as another Italian builder located more South presented this on its flagship model two years ago but surely cool, and apart this it does not interfere the helmsman view if persons are seated on the sunpad while underway. I wonder what kind of choices one can do to that circle shaped sun pad. May be for extravagant clients a small jacuzzi pool can be fitted, or for the more practical ones this can be made to transform to a circle shaped dinette. The standard accommodation plan for the Italian Yachts 72 Jaguar offers three double cabins all with private heads. The owners stateroom is located to mid ship, while the VIP suite is to fore. Crew accommodation is for two members in a separate cabin. Power to the 72 Jaguar is from twin MTU 1500hp standard or 1600hp optional, with ZF Searex surface drives propulsion giving a wide open throttle max speed of 45 knots.

Improve-it = Linssen 25.9 Grand Sturdy

Linssen Yachts takes a course of innovation introducing a 25.9 Grand Sturdy with a hybrid propulsion system. For this improved unique 25.9 Grand Sturdy Linssen adopted the new Mastervolt E Power which uses the DriveMaster 7.5 Ultra electric motor, combined with a 48 V Mass Combi, and four LI-ION batteries what becomes a particularly efficient drive system. The DriveMaster arrangement is backed up by one of Mastervolt’s proven 3kW Whisper Generators to cope with the power demands of serious cruising and longer voyages. When travelling slowly, the main arrangement will provide up to eight hours of relaxed, fully electric cruising facilitated by the lack of vibration, engine noise or exhaust fumes. At cruising speed, the range is around 3 hours without generator backup. At the end of the day on the water, manoeuvring into a berth becomes a pleasure, helped by the high torque provided at lower engine revs. Another integral part of the electric propulsion system being installed on the 25.9 Grand Sturdy hybrid version is Mastervolt’s 48 V Mass Combi combined battery charger and inverter. This intelligent power management system combines a sophisticated battery charger with a pure sine wave inverter. On the Linssen 25.9 Grand Sturdy, it will ensure smooth battery charging and drive power when the boat is using the Mastervolt Whisper Generator for extra motoring range.

New Model: Maritimo 440 Offshore Convertible

Maritimo presents its new entry level model with the 440 Offshore Convertible which is a cruiser usable for fishing. This means it is not a pure big game machine as the experts of the genre will notice but none the less it still can be used for some competitions. Presented by Maritimo's boss Bill Barry-Cotter during the opening of the Sydney boat show the new 440 Offshore Convertible is a very competitive Sportfish Cruiser, and features unseen solutions in this size like the internal staircase to the enclosed bridge. It also has other extraordinary features as astern galley, bi-fold doors which open the saloon to the aft deck, and buoyancy tanks in the engine room. This last feature introduced first in the Sanctuary Cove presented Maritimo C47 Sports Cabriolet. The interior offers a three cabin two head plan, with owners room forward, and two cabins to mid-ship. The main deck presents a split area saloon, with the welcoming galley looking aft, and the fore part having two L-shaped settees. Project: Mano M37 Gran Sport

Mano seems to be putting a lot of new models in recent time and after launching its M42,50 flagship in early Summer this Italian boat builder moves on to present this M37 Gran Sport project. The M37 Grand Sport seems an expansion of the M32 Gran Sport project presented over a year ago and is designed by Naples firm Cabes Yachts. Taking innovation at heart both Mano and Cabes present a center console with a full length cockpit with cabin spaces nearly competing to those of a cruiser in similar sizes, with a lower deck offering an owners cabin to fore, double berth to midship, shower head, L-shaped saloon, and galley. The 37 Gran Sport is also full of options not only to color choices, but also to what regards its fitting out. Its exterior offers four choices to decide from; the radar arch model as the picture above, full open, T-bar, and last a glassed hard top covering all the center console. You also have inside options where an owner can choose to swap the galley for a second settee. With this you will have the galley on the main deck, which stands behind the central helm position only. But can be an interesting option for those who use such a boat mostly in Summer. Choices again are vast to what regards powering the M37 Gran Sport with a total of eleven engines from Mercruiser, Volvo, and Yanmar from twin 220 up to 320hp. Propulsion comes from all the stern drives from these three engine manufactures, and the option of a Volvo IPS pod drive option.

New Model: Astondoa 50 Fly

Astondoa launches its new 50 Fly model, a flybridge motor yacht of just fifteen metres which features incredible spaces for its size. May be the only sin for the Christian Gatto designed 50 Fly just as the smaller 44 sister is just for copying too much the triangle bow of a certain Italian builder, but for the rest the 50 Fly breaks new ground in this size for its space which is over whelming. The 50 Fly has also to be appreciated because it does this without looking too heavy on the lines. The most important area of the 50 Fly is its lower deck, this place having three double cabins, and two heads. Nothing new here, sure but the owners stateroom is full beam, and the third cabin is no bunk. So that is also an improvement on the Astondoa 55. You can also get an extra crew cabin which stands behind the master room as optional. The main deck is the other thing to like, and versus recent designs goes a bit backwards having a split level saloon with dining and helm in the raised part, and saloon with C-shaped sofa and entertainment desk on the lower welcome area. Power is from standard twin Cummins 600hp in a shaft propulsion configuration, although to get these spaces I am sure the ZF Integral vee drive units are used. As every year FPT, Fiat Powertrain Technologies presents a new edition to its range of marine engines at the world’s most important nautical event. The new C90 650 engine is according to FPT the best in its class, thanks to its outstanding power output, extremely quiet running and excellent reliability and efficiency, all packed in extremely compact measurements, a combination that makes it the ideal choice for leisure boats up to sixteen metres long. Confirming the technological excellence and innovation that distinguish all FPT marine engines, the new engine features the latest advances in engineering technology that are available on the market. This new straight-6 cylinder, 8.7 litre engine has 4-valve-per-cylinder timing and a sophisticated fuel supply system with a second generation Common Rail with electronic control incorporated into the cylinder head cover, which has unquestioned advantages in terms of safety and noise abatement. Turbocharging is provided by a water-cooled fixed geometry turbo blower with a waste-gate valve and after-cooling. These features enable the new C90 650 to deliver a maximum power output of 650hp at 2530 rpm, and engine torque of 2,152 Nm at 1,700 rpm. The excellent specific power output of 74.71 Hp/litre is the highest in its class and further proof of the outstanding efficiency of the C90 650. The cutting edge technology that went into the design and development of the new C90 650 has made it possible to combine sporty performance and low specific consumption of 228.5 g/kWh. Thanks to modern injection systems and electronic management, the engine has a minimal environmental impact and respects the most restrictive international standards, including Imo Marpol, Epa Recreational and 2003/44/EC. The characteristic measurements of the C90 650 make it another winner, even where ease of installation is concerned; this is underlined by the excellent weight-power, and volume-power ratios, which are respectively just 1.45 kg/Hp and 1.48 dm3/Hp, setting new benchmarks for its class. New Launch: F&S 54 Hull 15

F&S from Delaware presents this new 54 feet Hull number 15. Designed by Applied Concepts this cold molded custom built Sportfish Yacht is for a repeated customer who with this launch is now on his third F&S following 62 Hull 8 from 2006, and the 2007 built 45 Hull 10. Applied Concepts and Jim Flloyd's F&S presented a Sportfish Yacht which certainly is coming from the future with innovative super structures being testimony to the revolution this 54 feet classic Carolina lined hull wants to show. F&S hull number fifteen breaks the mold indeed with its all-weather bridge and unique composite tower. The main deck area is also a living closed-open cross over, having comforts associated with a flybridge but being a light filled area. The revolutionary tower built of composite sits on the hard top which covers the main deck, and indeed it does offer the comfort of a flybridge, although space is limited to two persons. The main deck welcomes you on its two step raised area with the mezzanine and full entertainment relax zone under the hard top which has an L-shaped settee, a central pompano style helm station with bolster style seat, and two co-pilot seats. Down below the interior has been made simple with a spacious C-shaped sofa, two open bunk berths, galley, shower head, and an owners stateroom to fore. Power to this 54 Hull 15 is for not so big twin Cats 1015hp.

Project: Pershing 58

After no new models launched in 2009, Pershing wants to make the 2010 year one full of them, presenting three novelties in this years fall, and after taking the 50.1 in Cannes, at Genoa it presented the 58. As it is easy to see with this rendering this new 58 comes from the updating of the successful 56 model launched in 2005. With the Pershing 58 Fulvio De Simoni updates the super structure, and adds the hull with six large view windows, three per side situated in all of the three large cabins below. As those who follow Pershing can see the hard top now takes the New Idea looks as presented with the 72 in 2007, and there after followed by all new models launched since then. In particular De Simoni 58 new hard top lines take a lot of inspiration from the 72, 64, 80, and the new 92.

New Model: Atlantis 44

Atlantis presents the page two of its new direction with second 44 model debuting at Genoa. Important to note that both the new Atlantis models represented a full novelty and where not just a make up change to an old design. The 44 replaces two units from Altantis who both sold quite well, the 42 which was the first badged Atlantis, and the top selling Gobbi designed 425 SC. Young designers Neo Design who take over from Righini as expected bring a family feeling to the details shown on the 48 presented just about a month ago in Cannes. You have the open feeling with a hard top which is light on features, and the cockpit although smaller features a similar layout to the bigger sister with a sun pad aft, C-shaped dinette, galley opposite, and lounger under the windscreen. The interior has also a similar layout to the 48, with a full beam owners room, VIP suite to fore, galley, and a C-shaped saloon. Basically if you compare it to the 48 you miss a high low bathing platform, a smaller aft deck, and stern drive propulsion instead of line shafts. Stern drives do consume less to shaft or pods, although higher maintenance costs are to be had. Power for the Atlantis 44 comes from Cummins 350hp with an unusual for a European builder for having a Bravo Three dual propeller propulsion set up. So far there seems to be no Volvo option, we will see if this will change.
Technical Data:
LOA - 13.43 m (44ft)
Beam - 4.25 m
Fuel Capacity - 900 l
Water Capacity - 350 l
Accommodation - 4 + 2 berths
Max Persons - 12
Engines - 2 x Cummins QSD 4.2 350hp
Propulsion - Mercruiser Bravo Three dual propeller stern drive

New Model: Mondomarine 40 Meters Semidisplacement

A success on the market for its super yachts induced Mondomarine to launch the 40 Metres Semidispacement. Unlike recent Mondomarine which are built of alloy or steel this 40 meter named Villa Reis was built in fiberglass composite material. This new model is based on an in house project by Mondomarine design team, with an interior by architect Luca Dini. The external lines of this 40 Metres Semidispalcement which is the the fifty fourth yacht boasting the logo by the Shipyard of Savona related to Mondo Group of Gallo D’Alba, are characterized, by the wheelhouse, perfectly circular and with a semi circle view. A difference is the positioning of the sun-deck area, provided with a Jacuzzi, in the outside bow area of the upper deck, instead to the usual stern cockpit or on the sun-deck. The interior layout, rather traditional in the layout and with a neo-classical touch, includes the owner’s suite complete with a study in the wide body area of the main deck, a large salon with dining room and the galley on the same deck. Four guest cabins are located on the lower deck while the upper deck includes a living room, a gym full of light, the Captain’s cabin and the wheelhouse. The interiors with their sober and elegant lines, the meticulous care for stylistic details, the use of light wood for the floors of salon and lounge and of Italian Walnut wood and Radica of Madrona for the furniture, the marbles of great value and the ceilings in light Alcantara make the rooms warm and comfortable and emphasize their classic and elegant character. Improve-it = Maxi Dolphin MD51 Power

Maxi Dolphin launches a new improved version of the MD51 Power. This sport yacht is once again the expression of the Maxi Dolphin philosophy to build custom projects suited to the clients needs. Here it combines the designer style typical of its range with advanced technological research resulting in a unique sport yacht. This new version has also the capability to handle all electric, electronic and infotainment systems through an Apple i-Pad, which is located on the noticeable central aileron radar arch. But this improved MD51 Power achieves a lot more by reviewing some of the components, such as: carbon inserts on the boat sides, that set off the metallic light blue paint of the hull; windscreen extended to aft, offering extra protection; air outlet grills on the transom enlarged, to underline the power of the craft; prow with integrated Led navigation lights and the drive seat turned into a one place capsule. The interior arrangement is an open space; with many details and parts in carbon fibre like the companionway’s steps, skirting boards, washbasin and centre table enhancing this sport yacht look. Power for this sophisticated open sport yacht is twin Volvo 435hp with IPS forward looking dual propeller drives propulsion giving a max speed of 38 knots.
