Azimut Benetti 9th Yacht Master Edition

The ninth edition of the Azimut-Benetti Yachtmaster, the event which every year gathers the Benetti fleet captains and the captains of the Azimut yachts above 85', brought a wave of excitement and freshness bringing together all the members in the charming setting of Marrakech in Marocco. The event, held in Marrakech from March the 2nd to the 6th 2009, has been possible also thanks to the warming support of a significant number of partner companies which have sponsored this 9th edition with enthusiasm. Goes to them our greatest gratitude. The main topic of this 9th edition has been the State of the art technology consistent with some new products developed by the shipyard in collaboration with partner companies and with the request of the captains elaborated in a customer satisfaction questionnaire after the past edition. The workshops, developed during the morning, have been dynamic and interactive and saw the captains discuss topic of great interest. Norma Trease, international editor of YachtNLife, opened the workshop session according to the Yachtmaster tradition. Then, Hein Velema, the just appointed CEO of Fraser Yachts Worldwide has involved the captains in an interesting analysis and discussion on how the international economical situation affects the owner's life and the captain's business. Nextworks, an engineering company active for many years in the research and development of telecommunication network and audio/video that developed Benetti's Exclusive Sea Technology, an exclusive product purposely planned and realised to suit the Benetti's fleet, integrating all the electronic components on board. Among the sponsors there must be mentioned also Rina, Proventia, Boero, MTU, Asea, Dockwise, VTNaiad. The Azimut-Benetti Yachtmaster is also a big opportunity for all the attendants to exchange experiences, opinions and to meet new interesting people. This also thanks to the team building activities that usually take place in the afternoon and that in this 9th edition have seen captains racing in a quad adventure desert and driving the jeep to the Atlantis mountains. Next Azimut-Benetti Yachtmaster will be in 2010 but the destination is still top secret!

CRN Presents Conceirgerie Monaco

It looks after and pays attention to the leitmotif of the service offered by the company of Ancona: the clients are "cuddled" with unique 24 hour services and a reserved area on the internet with constant updates regarding the progress of their own megayacht "CRN Conciergerie Monaco" is an exclusive service that CRN offers to its current and past clients. 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, this "club" is strictly reserved to ship owners and their families, who can benefit from the dedicated services: including hotel and restaurant reservations and events; ranging from theatre tickets to a boat parking space; from private planes to helicopters. Based within the strategic setting of Munich, where last year CRN opened its agency, CONCIERGERIE MONACO derives from a fundamental principle on which the entire CRN is based: placing the client at the centre, offering the best, with care and dedication, which is also applied to shipbuilding.A Conciergerie Card gives clients access to the services being offered, presently active all over the Italian peninsula and Cote D’Azur and soon available in the best places of the Mediterranean. Moreover, to ensure closeness to its ship owners, CRN has also set up a reserved area on its website, www.crn-yacht.com, giving access to a "virtual window" on the shipyard such that one may obtain the latest updates regarding one's own craft: through a virtual meeting room ship owners can be constantly updated on the work progress of their ships being built, making it possible to enjoy the step by step "birth of their megayacht". CRN has devised an extraordinary service to be side by side its ship owners: complete assistance is provided, taking care of the least details with a single objective, that of providing an unrepeatable experience in maximum tranquillity both on board and on land. Therefore, CRN goes beyond its core business and offers its clients a real "Personal Assistant", that is, the CRN Conciergierie Monaco service.

Maritimo Boat of the Show

Mochi New Advertising Campaign

Since the beginning culture feeds on the past in order to build a different and possibly better future. Mochi Craft agrees completely with this philosophy and becomes holder of "A new sea culture", the new pay-off that goes together with the red Dolphin symbol of the shipyard. Future and innovation, by the way, are always inspired by imagination, dreams and by the aim to look forward and farer. This visionary attitude moves Mochi Craft and pushed architects and designers to conceive unique and unmistakable yachts. Two hearts of Mochi Craft - Dolphin line which invented the Lobster Boat "Italian Style" and Long Range 23 the revolutionary first motor-yacht over 20 metres able to cruise in "Zero Emission Mode" - are in the spotlight of the new advertising campaign which will be planned on the main nautical and lifestyle magazines. The communication agency INADV conceived new advertisements that fully reflect the shipyard character in two campaigns: the campaign "Islands" created for Dolphin line embodies this concept through unreal islands that represent the most beautiful cities in the world, far and unreachable for everyone but not for Mochi. Headline "We Create Words that others can't even imagine" strengthen what in shown in the visual part. Mochi Craft is a visionary and strongly innovative brand, talented to make what is inconceivable for other shipyards. The second campaign "Drop-curtain" realized for the last model of the fleet Long Range 23 reflects the aim of the brand through the overcoming of the horizon line that the owner pulls up like a sort of curtain: limits are moved because going where everyone can go is not enough for the person who sails in this revolutionary motor-yacht. The sub head, "The ambition to look forward. The ability to get there" appears in both campaigns and underlines that Mochi Craft is reaching these target thanks to his visionary and dreamy attitude but also thanks to absolute quality and cutting hedge technology that represent the yard's DNA.

Mochi Gets Another Award

During the eagerly awaited Internautica 2009 boat show in Portorose, Slovenia Mochi Craft Long Range 23 was awarded as "BOAT of INTERNAUTICA 2009" in the category "Motor Yachts and Boats" and at the same time obtained the prestigious honour of "Yacht of the Year" assigned by the leading magazine Val Nautika.

Project: Diano 30

The largest boat ever from historical Riva Trigoso, Genoa builders Diano a company part of InRizzardi Group, is a 30 meter motor yacht, hardwood built on an individualized basis as in this builders tradition. An epitome of Italian style, Diano Crowbridge’s sober and elegant design is made contemporary in the straight lines that create a tension of slender surfaces and the wide, soft curves that give dynamism and a sense of continuity to this boat. Diano 30 meter Crowbridge is hardwood and mahogany marine plywood hull to superstructure. Interiors feature details of a striking refinement. Paint conceals Diano’s woodwork totally, yet it is thanks to the nobility of this material, to the sobriety of lines and simplified forms that this boat stands apart from the hyper sophistication of most fiberglass yachts. Diano Crowbridge has five staterooms, including one central full beam master stateroom. Twin guest staterooms are forward with aligned beds. Additional twin guest staterooms have beds arranged to form an angular scheme. Each room has private facilities, air conditioning, telephone and HiFi systems, LCD television. Twin crew quarters are aft and have air conditioning, television and stereo systems and separate facilities. Interior fittings are cherry wood with blue leather upholstery. Deckheads finishes are precious fabrics and white lacquered woods. The spacious galley is fitted with an African black marble top and white teak slat flooring. Bathroom vanity tops are statuary marble. The opening aft hatch and accommodation ladder on the starboard side are also distinctive features of Diano 30 metre Crowbridge. Naval carpentry is an excellence in naval construction because wood boat construction processes are very complex to achieve quality standards as per applicable legislation. Wood yachts are amongst the most prized ever. Their fascination lies in a particular way to navigate that bears in itself the evolution of technology and the entire history of navigation. Based on a study of Diano’s brand DNA, Crowbridge’s design has been developed in a symbiosis of the Genoa builders and designers from Proship, La Spezia. The objective was to conjugate client expectations and functionality and usability of this construction.

XL Marine New Web Site

A website for Italian Sport Cruiser and Yacht builder XL Marine. This is an interesting youngish builder offering traditional big open yachts with a deep vee hull design of over twenty degrees dead rise for high speed performance in rough weather as started in the US, and followed by the Italians in the seventies and eighties. XL Marine as a company is quite new, founded in Rome on January 2006. It is also a low volume builder, producing a max of five boats a year. While XL Marine has only three years of age all its three managers have an important profile and previous experiences in boat production, with two also having a past with Itama before this eventually went to be part of the Ferretti Group. Today XL Marine produces two models: its first model the 43 which will make its twelfth delivery this Summer, and the 51 presented in 2008 having hull number three under construction and to be put in water late this Spring. A 58 and 65 are also in project stages. XL Marine also represent also a high degree of customisation to all its models. The new website wants to give XL Marine a higher brand recognition status and takes you in the following tabs: Home, Philosophy, Models, Used, Boutique, News, Contacts, Reserved Area, and Press Area. So far it is only available in Italian language, hoping an English version to be available soon.

Boat Review: Hinckley T55 Talaria

Presentation
Traditional lobster yachts have received a tremendous boost of attention and success in recent years, with Italian, French, Turkish and British builders jumping to offer their version to the original United States Maine New England status symbol boat. Founded in 1928 Hinckley has been at the forefront of this design being the original builder of the lobster boat back in the nineteen thirties. PowerYachtBlog May 2009 Boat Review takes a more insider view at the Hinckley Power Yacht flagship, with the beautiful and timeless T55 Talaria launched in 2005.
Accommodation
Hinckley T55 Talaria accommodation is all about offering spacious spaces and satisfying as much as possible its customer needs with four different lower deck plans all concentrated on the second cabin area. The T55 welcomes you inside trough its sliding patio door to the saloon with a c-shaped settee to starboard, two relaxing sofas to port side, and dual seated helm station to starboard.
The lower deck below is dedicated to the cabins, heads, and galley located mid ship to starboard. The owner cabin with its en-suite shower head is a spacious full beam affair, but not mid ship located with its queen size berth also surprising for looking aft versus the normal way of looking to fore. Standard guest cabin area located to starboard can have four different choices: twin single berths, office, c-shaped settee, and a double berth. The guests or day head is located to port side adjacent to the galley and in front of the three stairs which bring you from the main to the lower deck. Performance
With Hamilton jet drives propelling the T55 Talaria, Hinckley's flagship offers a super handling and steer ability unmatchable in its size not only to similar traditional yachts but also to more aggressive looking sport yachts. Performance is also the best of its category with the bigger Cats C18 engines choice giving a maximum speed of 38 knots and a 30 knot cruise. The other smaller standard twin Cats 800hp will give a 33 knots max and 26 knots cruising. For tight marina manoeuvring the T55 also has the Jetstick which make the difficult stuff all look so easy. Another winner for the T55 is also its draft of only 0.89 metres which will take you where similar sized boats can never go. If you think jets are not for you the T55 is also offered with optional propeller drives, which should give less speeds and a deeper draft.
Positive super jet drive handling performance
easy joystick use
various interior layouts
Negative
cockpit side deck connection no three cabin option
Competition
Competition in the Traditional Yacht series have increased a lot in recent years with many builders especially Italian ones jumping on the Lobster Boat design wagon and offering a different view how this should be made in the new millennium. Whats interesting that most of these designs look different to the other. If you like a lot the traditional Hinckley I would say have a look to the slightly bigger Grand Banks Eastbay SX, Sabre Saloon Express, and the Turkish cold molded built Vicem Classic Series. If more modern looks are your thing have a look at the Italian builds Franchini, Mochi, Solare with Abati and Estensi giving a good compromise between old and new. Still with all said the T55 Talaria is unbeatable for handling and performance thanks to the Jet propulsion and 38 knots of max speeds. Competition criteria is based for 16 to 17 metres of LOA and two or three cabin interior.
Abati Yachts 55 Portland - traditional, 3 cabins 3 heads all separate entrance Grand Banks 55 Eastbay SX - two or three cabin option, 17 m + 34 knots max
Estensi 540 Goldstar S - 3 guests 2 crew cabins classic topsides with modern stern
Franchini 55 Emozione - modern! 2 or 3 cabins, 17 m 34 knots max
Mochi 54 Dolphin Sun Top Version - 7 guests berths in 3 cabins + 1 crew modern!
Sabre 52 Saloon Express - double stateroom plan, another US contender
Solare 52 Lobster - 34 knots max with twin 670hp, 3 cabins + 1 crew
Vicem V54 Classic Series - Turkish cold mold built available in 2 or 3 cabins WILD CARD: Nordic Tugs 49 - Explorer yacht 16 metres 16 knots
Conclusion
Hinckley T55 Talaria is the flagship and symbol of its traditional yacht range, and manages to look timeless classic testifying this legendary boat builder glorious past. Hinckley also does not sleep on its successful past and moves ahead setting the future in motion with three exclusive items you want find on other boats traditional or not. First is the super solid Scrimp e-glass construction method giving a life time guarantee for solidity, second is the Hamilton jet drives which give a super handling on the dime, and last the joystick command which unites the thrusters to the drives making marina manoeuvring easy. While the joystick is common used today with the pods, when the T55 was introduced in 2005 it was a unique affair of the renowned US builder, presenting its exclusive patented Jetstick in 1998.

Project: Enterprise Marine EM 490

A project from Italian builder Enterprise Marine, which continues to upgrade its line made up of flybridge cruisers and yachts from 42 up to 60 feet. This new EM 490 project will be the second in size model from the Adriatic sea based builder, and takes a lot of the design element from the 2008 introduced EM 600 model. The plans of the EM 490 show a spacious boat and surprisingly it does not include a full beam cabin, choosing a traditional three cabins two head layout with the master stateroom with en-suite head to fore, and VIP cabin located mid ship port side looking of a relatively similar size. There is also a fully equipped crew cabin aft. The upper saloon looks also spacious offering a c-shaped settee for relaxing, galley, helm station to port side, and a forward c-shaped settee for dining. Power will be twin 590hp diesel engines with Enterprise Marine estimating top speeds of about 32 knots.

Projects: Maritimo A60 Aegean Enclosed, Maritimo 56 Cruising Motoryacht

Australian boat builder Maritimo presents the project of two further upcoming models to join its existing range of cruisers and yachts. The first of these pictured above is the A60 Aegean Enclosed, and this is a three, closed upper bridge version for the A60 Aegean Flybridge model presented in 2008. With the enclosed bridge the A60 Aegean Enclosed takes a whole new dimension and modifies all the interior plan versus the model on which it is based. The main deck presents a different more spacious saloon, now with twin spacious l-shaped settees, galley aft and an internal staircase leading to the third deck. Up in the third upper deck enclosed area one finds a central located helm station, and two settees to both sides. Below the standard layout is also different offering a 3 cabin, 3 head version with a mid ship located owners cabin. Power for the A60 Aegean Enclosed is twin C12 715hp Cats, of which Maritimo expects a similar 25 knots cruising speed as the standard Flybridge version.
The other project set to be unveiled this month is the new 56 Cruising Motoryacht, and will be the fourth and second in size model of this range from Maritimo. The Cruising Motoryacht is a very interesting range offering hybrid looks, associated with a Sport Fisherman but adding to it comforts coming from Motor Yachts, like deep side deck, extended integrated bathing platform, and an aft deck area more made to relax and socialize then the usual open plan associated with the gaming machines. This 56 Cruising Motoryacht is expected with great anticipation mostly for pushing also the envelope of this range to a more modern direction and will offer an enclosed bridge, an interior with 3 cabins 2 heads, and an abaft located galley. Power will be twin Cats 715hp which will give a cruising speed of about 25 knots to this 27 toner.

New Model: Sea Ray 22 Pachanga

Sea Ray 2009 lineup will mark the return of the yards history with the new 22 Pachanga first 100 units coming with a 50th Anniversary Limited Edition package that commemorates the company's five decades of business and includes special Ultraleather upholstery, red gel coat, and a numbered builder's plate. The original Pachanga was introduced in 1969 and represented a radical departure in style for the builder. Designed to satisfy a growing number of boaters who were more attracted to speed than to size and amenities, the 18-footer could exceed 50 mph and had a low profile, rakish windshield and prominent racing stripe. Pachanga means "lively party" in Spanish, was brought back in 1986 when the 22 feet Pachanga II was launched. It pioneered the 260hp MerCruiser stern drive. This latest version of the Pachanga, measuring 24 feet, honors the past but also incorporating advanced technologies that boaters expect from today's Sea Rays. The exterior is fast and flashy, with a sleek windshield, reverse sheer line and stainless-steel hardware. The limited edition red gel coat, Pachanga logo and patterned vinyl give it an eye-catching, vintage feel .But don't let its retro looks fool you. The new Pachanga is a modern hot rod from the keel up. It runs on a deep V-hull and six lifting strakes that allow it come out of the water quickly and provide fast, nimble maneuvering. Standard power is a MerCruiser 350 Magnum 300hp with MPI Bravo I stern drive. For extreme speed demons, three additional engine options range up to a scorching 496 Magnum HO Bravo III 425hp. Project: Sarnico 80 Grande

Sarnico presents more detailed design rendering for its new upcoming flagship project announced as far as in 2005 and still being waited much by the critics and passionate boaters alike. The new Grande, Italian word meaning big, will be Sarnico biggest model at 80 feet of length, what is normally associated with pocket sized Super Yacht status. As all this respected builder range design is by the able renowned hands of Nuvolari Lenard. The Venice design duo now have been long collaborators to the North Italian builder since 1995 when the yard presented it still in production and successful 45 model. Hull shape also continues the collaboration with the renowned Brunellos Acampora Victory Design. As seen in the latest Sport Yachts of this size the Grande will also offer a Sport Bridge above the hardtop, offering a sun lounger as standard with the option of a second helm station in the Command Bridge version. Project: Freedom Boatworks 56 Sportfisherman

For those who think US custom Sportfish builders innovation is just in the cold mold building method just make a rethink of this. In fact North Carolina's Freedom Boatworks presents this very interesting 56 Sportfisherman project set to launch the coming Summer and already in advanced building stages. The 56 Sportfisherman will in fact be the first Custom Sportfish Yacht with flybridge to be equipped with triple Volvo pods latest generation second series IPS900 700hp each. The other novelty for this Sportfish Yacht will be its spacious interior offering a four cabin three head layout, and in all this giving the owner a full beam mid ship cabin, and a fore VIP cabin for his special guests. This is a very interesting new build, and as Freedom Boatworks put it here we have a 56 foot Sportfish yacht which gives 20 metres in space, and the efficiency of a 45 footer. Performance estimates are an impressive 40 knots plus of top speed with cruising in the mid thirties.

Improve-it = Cigarette 49 Grand Sport

New Model: Queens Yachts 62

Queens Yachts presents its fourth model with the much waited 62, second bigger model in its current produced range. The Italian Queens, here competes in a tight market spot with all the major builders offering similar themed and sized boats. Queens Yachts major advantage seems to be big spaces, spacious three double cabins all with private head, private crew cabin aft, and not so large engines with twin 900hp MAN pushing this 29 toner Sport Yacht. Wondering what the performance will be as this is a very small choice for this size, but if this manages thirty knots plus I am sure those who choose the Queens Yachts 62 will smile a lot at the pump. In the interior the new 62 has a three cabins heads layout, with a spacious full beam owners cabin. There is also a fairly spacious crew cabin aft. The galley is located on the main deck to the fore port side and down two steps of the main deck bridge area, aimed at creating a separate area. Aft of this there is also a dining table and L-shaped saloon settee.

Following extensive testing, the Enclosed Bridge version of the 51 is now available with triple Volvo Penta IPS drive systems. With more than 150 of Riviera 51 Flybridge delivered this classy three cabin Sportfish Yacht, now has the option of Volvo innovative front looking IPS pod drives offering additional space amidships. Project: Bruno Abbate Primatist B62 Aerotop Pininfarina

Bruno Abbate Primstist continues the collaboration with Pininfarina presenting more detailed renderings for the fourth model to be designed by the famous Italian firm for the renowned Italian builder. Announced a couple of months back first as the G62, the B62 Aerotop Pininfarina project is an important step for the Lake Como company, and will be its second bigger model after the G70, this last also being the first to be styled by Pininfarina. By these renderings alone I would say this will look bigger to the G70 and offer also a different space environment with a fully enclosed main deck hard top. The B62 seems also to be having fuller rounded upper bow sections, something introduced by another Italian firm in 2004 and why it looked trendy at the time this solutions seems to be more used by more builders the more time passes. Now it will be curious to see how this looks on the Primatist aggressive bow! Another interesting detail is also the windscreen which will go as far as the forward part of the deck, this area forming part of the lower accommodation deck and I am led to be believed to be also glassed, which if it is so will let natural light to flow in the cabins.

New Model: Marquis 720 Tri-Deck

The new Marquis 720 Tri-Deck is the enclosed bridge version to its flagship model introduced in the fall of 2008, offering a third deck usable in any weather conditions. Enclosed bridges while not so popular in Europe are very much requested in the US mostly on Sportfisher Yacht, but later trends have made this request be added to Motor Yachts too, mostly for the advantage they give in comfort. Still Italian designers Nuvolari Lenard managed to make a great looking affair to the Marquis 720 Tri-Deck enclosed bridge. Apart the third deck enclosed bridge in the 720 Tri-Deck this new model keeps all the Flybridge model specification like a three or four cabins choice, crew room aft which can also be outfitted as a sea side cabana complete with shower, and lastly high standard CE A Classification rating something standard in all models of this US builder from the smaller 420 SC up to this flagship.

Project: Scarani 25 Cruiser

Spanish Scarani boats which is part of Italian company Rio Yachts presents the project for the 25 Cruiser. The 25 Cruiser projects follows on the modern design the 35 and 31 Cruiser represent, and in this smaller package Scarani wants to make entry level boaters appreciate the joys of boating in a size abandoned by many manufacturers in the last decade. As shown in the latest generation Scarani cruisers, the 25 Cruiser makes an excellent combination of outside and inside spaces. For example a rarity on a 7 metre boat is the large sunbathing platform. Inside the 25 Cruiser will incorporate all the comforts needed for life on board such as a separate bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen with fridge, a mid ship double berth, and a convertible vee berth which converts to another spacious twin berth. Powerboat P1 - Malta GP SNAV OSG Seagull Chaudron Win

While the traditionally rough waters surrounding Malta never materialized, the Powerboat P1 season opening Malta Grand Prix of the Sea still provided exciting offshore racing and saw seasoned veterans capture the checkered flag in both Evolution and SuperSport classes, and an impressive showing for American boat and engine manufacturers.
Saturday's Sprint Race and Sunday's Endurance Race culminated in a Grand Prix Evolution victory for the Italian #88 SNAV OSG, a Mercury Racing powered Outerlimits and a SuperSport win for the Italian 43 Seagull Chaudron, the Maltese made hull powered by Ilmor Performance Marine engines. All this after a number of penalty situations which can only be attributed to first race weekend jitters by those involved. Following an impressive Evolution win on Saturday, The Italian #10 Cigarette Smash Poker jumped to an early lead on Sunday, only to see the race end after a violent spin out in the fourth lap that filled the engine compartment with water. The American #77 Lucas Oil/Budweiser, a Chief-powered Outerlimits moved into the lead, but unbeknownst to them, broke a water pick-up line that started filling their bilge. As the water rose, the boat slowed, allowing Saturday's third-place finisher SNAV/OSG to move into first, and ultimately take the checkered flag, followed by Britain's #47 Silverline, a Sterling-powered Buzzi, and the #77. In the end, Lucas Oil/Budweiser and Silverline had a second and third place podium appearance for the Grand Prix. In SuperSport action, Team 26 Racing, following impressive wildcard finishes in 2008, picked through the pack on Saturday, moving from 7th place to second, and finishing first following speed limit penalties imposed on both the #38 Baia Atollini and #43 Seagull Chaudron. On Sunday, Seagull Chaudron, and the #44 Iko Case, another Chaudron hull with the female team of Shelly Jory and Adrienne Ciantar, whose family manufacturers the Chaudron hull and whose brother Aaron pilots the Seagull, left the pack at the green flag, but could not hold on as Team 26 made an move on the outside at the mid-way point in the race and never looked back. Team 26 was followed across the finish line by Seagull/Chaudron and Baia Atollini, a Donzi/Mercury package. However, the rookie team of Daniel Cramphorn and Kim Collins fell victims to the same rule that moved them up on Saturday and were penalized four minutes for violating the speed limit. After penalties, the endurance race win to Seagull Chaudron, with Baia Atonelli finishing second and the ladies of Iko Case taking third.
After all the sorting out was completed, the Supersport Grand Prix of the Sea ultimately went to Seagull Chaudron, with Baia Atollini taking second and Team 26 Racing finishing third. The World class racing of the Powerboat P1 Championship next move is to the historic new venue of Istanbul, Turkey, June 19-21 before moving on to Sweden, Italy and Bahrain. Additional good news for P1 also came during the opening race confirming San Benedetto del Tronto for the Italian Grand Prix of the Sea on the 3 to 5 July, and if the racing in September in Sicily will be confirmed this will make it for 12 total races in six different venues for the 2009 season, hoping this serves to encourage more teams to participate in both classes.

New Model: Estensi 500 Goldstar C

Estensi new 500 Goldstar C is another of the new models unveiled by this Italian builder during the Genoa Show. Second large in the more C for classic Goldstar lobster yacht line up, the new 500 Estensi just crosses the border to enter yacht territory, and is also fourth largest model from this quality appreciated Italian boat builder. As told in the project preview of the same model before its launch last year, the 500 Goldstar C shares much in common with the more modern looking 480 Goldstar S, like the ever important hull shape, and also the interior layout offering in fact an identical three cabin two head layout, with a crew cabin with head. The main difference is basically for the classic looks of the upper structure, the patio door in this case more traditional with wooden inserts, and the stern is also a squarish affair again calling to the past times. The squarish stern solution also gives a major cockpit space compared to the slightly smaller 480 Goldstar S, and the bathing platform is also more detached although still being an integrated design in its traditional ways. Power is from a standard option of twin 550hp, with performance data so far not being communicated.

Powerboat P1 - Malta GP Endurance Race

Maltese hero Aaron Ciantar was the hero of Valletta on Sunday night after the 43 Seagull Chaudron hull triumphed in Sunday’s second round Endurance Race to earn the new Ukranian Spirit Team its first Grand Prix of the Sea trophy. Cheered on by a great number of local fans, the pair continued their dominance of the SuperSport Class following Team 26 Racing’s four-minute penalty for over-speeding. The raw British pair of Daniel Cramphorn and Kim Collins were inconsolable at the post-race presentation having to look up to the home favorites instead of celebrating a debut Grand Prix series win. Benefiting from Team 26 Racing’s over-eagerness on lap four (twice) and lap six, 38 Baia Attolini were promoted to second spot in the race and ultimately in the overall standings. Aaron’s sister and co-pilot Shelley Jory took the bronze medal in the Endurance race, in their 44 Iko Casa P1’s first all girl team.
In the Evolution class 88 SNAV OSG proved to be the model of consistency as the crew of Giancarlo Cangiano and Hannes Bohinc claimed the Endurance race honors. Profiting from 10 Cigarette Smash Poker’s third lap retirement, courtesy of the Italian team’s crazy spin-out at the East end of the course, SNAV OSG romped home ahead of 47 Silverline and mid-race pacesetters, 77 Lucas Oil Budweiser, even affording the unusual luxury of dropping their speed to around 70mph with two laps to go, safe in the knowledge that victory was assured. Engine problems meant 66 Cranefield Wines failed to make the starting line whilst the 53 Metamarine Pignolo 53 did not race also today after Friday’s incident in practice.

Powerboat P1 - Malta GP Sprint Race

It was the opening race of the 2009 Powerboat P1 Season, and the eight months of waiting could have not been more gratifying for the millions of fans of this motor sports. First lets start with the winner of today's race in Malta which was of super domination in the Evolution Class, by the 10 The Fantastic 1, and full of surprises in Supersport with 26 Team 26 Racing finding themselves in first thanks to a four minute penalty handed to 38 Baia Attolini. The Evolution Race really finished as it started, with the 10 The Fantastic 1 looking more like doing a race with its own. Thinking that yesterday they did not even participate to the Power Pole because of problems to one of the engines all what was shown by Cigarette Racing Team Europe was impressive. In second 77 Lucas Oil did a good performance following there same place at the super pole yesterday. Nigel Hook Racing looked close to offer a fight in the early stages of the race with the winning number 10 boat, but the speed of the Cigarette was over whelming. 88 SNAV OSG settled third, 47 Silverline fourth, and 66 Cranefields Wine placing fifth. As expected the damaged 53 Metamarine Corse Pignolo 53 did not participate after yesterday accident during sea trials. Supersport Class, was back again to competitive edged racing. There was some nice racing here, with the first half of the race having a tight fight for first place between 38 Baia Attolini and 43 Seagull Chaudron. Still impressing and racing as if there is no tomorrow and climbing up four places was the new 2009 entry 26 Team 26 Racing who running its first lap as fourth ended up in second place, and lastly a four minute three time speeding penalty to 38 Baia Attolini gave them the first place. To appreciate the comeback of Team 26 Racing one has to see the racing. Big disappointment for sure to the 38 Baia Attolini after defending a number of attacks from the the 2008 Championship winners in 43 Seagull Chaudron and finishing officially in fourth place, after receiving over speeding penalties. The penalty to the Baia Attolini team gave to the 2008 title winners with the new 43 Seagull Chaudron second place after ending the race in third. Same story for 17 Mas Force Spirit of Belgium who will sure be happy of there third place. Also a 4:30 of penalty to the 2007 and 2008 title winning Racing Project 44 Iko Casa now all female driven boat, which put them back to only one step in fifth position. Team Al & AL Racing two boat entry finished both at the end of the line up with a retirement for the old 22 Big Sergio boat and a fifth place to the new 28 Blue Shaft.

Powerboat P1 - Malta GP Power Pole Metamarine Accident

The Powerboat P1 season get going with the first Power Pole in Malta with 43 Seagull claiming the SuperSport timing and 88 SNAV OSG taking Evolution honours, but the talking at the pits where all dedicated to the incident involving the 53 Metamarine Pignolo boat during sea test just half an hour before the official start.
Metamarine was involved according to testimonies in a 360 spin out while going out from Valletta's Grand Harbour, and later on at a slow speed went on to hit the harbours break water. Both drivers at the helm Marco Pennessi and Max Ferrari where taken to hospital, one suffering from slight and the other from grievous injuries, but both stable and comfortable after the accident. The boat according to Metamarine stuff suffered non mechanical damage with hull, propellers and rudders looking good, but the topsides mostly the engine hatch and closed cockpit wind shield showed all signs with the impact to the water.
In Supersport the domination of the Chaudrons seem to continue with both the new 43 Seagull and double title winner Racing Project 44 Ikocasa taking one and two. Third place for 38 Baia Attolini who are over eight seconds late from the 2008 title winning drivers and there new boat, sister to the 2008 and 2007 winning hull but powered with new Ilmor engines. 17 Mas Force with renowned and longer boat in the Supersport fleet 43 Nortech boat came fourth. Team Al&Al will feel a disappointment pinch with there new Blue Shaft placing sixth, and the old no.28 Big Sergio fifth. Lastly British Wreckless Team 26 did also a fine job placing initially fourth, but a miss to a pole put them in last place. We spoke to Kim Collins the team driver who told us after competing as a wild card in Vigo in 2008, wants to make all his best to win as much as he can for the first full season. Kim Collins also explained Team 26 important project racing in this season with a Donzi 38 ZR, but also a plan for a new boat in the future. Still Team 26 managed to compete just in time as two hoses where managed to be fixed before the start of the pole.
In Evolution team OSG seems to want a repeat of its previous successes in Malta, by taking the Powerpole for close to two seconds from the other new Outerlimits Lucas Oil boat. Worth to note that Team OSG won the 2007 and 2008 Malta Grand Prix. 47 Silverline making the step from Supersport to Evolution will be happy of there third place, and Cranefields Wine missed completely the buoy during the run up therefore losing time and placing last from the competing boats. Cigarette Smash Poker did not start after having trouble with one engine during the sea trials.

Malta has also an important footprint in this series having the honour of building the Supersport boat winner of the championship in both the 2007 and 2008 seasons the Chaudron 41. Maltese Arron Chiantar who is son of Charlie Chiantar, Chaudron founder and owner was also at the steering of the 2008 winning boat. This year the local Chaudron will have again two racing boats lined up for the season but both being a 41 footer with the difference in engines. The 44 Racing Project Chaudron winning boat of 2007 and 2008 will be driven by all females Audrien sister of Arron at the throttles and Shelley Jory taking the wheel. On the other hand the winning team of 2008 will move to a new sister hull to there unstoppable boat on the exterior but a new Ilmor engine package. It will be interesting to see how this develops.
In Supersport a total of seven teams will compete. Team Al & Al from Italy presents two running boats one of new construction no. 28 and the old and reliable Big Sergio no.22. Other interesting to see will be the no.17 US built Nortech with Russian Team of Flanders. Baia High Performance will continue with the 2008 package. A new team to watch is Team 26 with Wreckless which is the only UK running in this class.
The Evolution Class will also have seven boats taking part. With the teams eager to follow where they left in 2008 being the second placed Metamarine 53, and third place 88 SNAV OSG. Other to watch will be the Cigarette no.10 The Fantastic One, and Centurian Yachts join hands with the winning 2007 and 2008 Fountain Powerboats to follow a winning package. 47 Silverline from Team Bullet Racing will also make its step to this grand class after competing in the past in Supersport.
So far the schedule does not clarify if racing for both Classes is separated. Racing is far scheduled on 1400 hours on both Saturday and Sunday for the Round one and Round two race. We hope for this to still be the case as it makes for a better viewing and understanding of the race. The spectacular Powerpole is scheduled for Friday at 1530.

Project: Menorquin MY 120

Menorquin presents the project of the new MY 120 model which the shipyard is launching at the Palma Boat Show. The new Menorquin MY 120 offers unprecedented habitability in its size and style thanks to an interior design distribution which offer accommodation for up to seven guests. Interior wise the MY 120 has two cabins. A master cabin located in the bow fitted with a double berth, and a guest cabin in the stern starboard side which is very versatile, providing various options like two single berths or one single or a double berth. This all comes to fruit thanks to the lower berth extension which converts into a double. The dinette located at port side also converts into an extra double bed, further increasing sleeping accommodation. The lower deck layout continues with the fully equipped galley located to port side, and a double access washroom found to starboard. An interesting feature for the new medium sized Menorquin is the passages dividing the areas and allowing each separate space to function independently, whilst at the same time enhancing features to this new boat. For example, the wheelhouse and the galley are connected by an opening through which daylight enters, and likewise the wheelhouse and the lower deck are connected by steps. The wheelhouse is extremely functional in its design; with ergonomic seating for two with space at the back for storing chairs. Adjacent to the helm is a generous chart table for organizing navigation comfortably. Menorquin with the MY 120 also continues to use woods traditional quality, by using it generously outside and inside highlighting its classic taste. www.menorquin.com

New Model: Maritimo A55 Aegean Flybridge

Maritimo launches its second boat in the Aegean Flybridge range, the A55 sharing a lot in common with its 60ft bigger sibling as well as hull lines with the Sports Cabriolets range. The Aegean A55 welcomes you on the main deck spacious cockpit with a sliding door leading to the saloon via the galley. The galley features all modern conveniences of home including a dishwasher, fridge freezer, cook top with oven and plenty of storage space for food, drinks and utensils. The main saloon features a lounge dining area for six on the port side and a further L-shaped lounge to starboard just behind the main helm station. Accommodation continues the similarities with the A60! The owners cabin with its private en-suite head is a full beam stateroom with trademark view windows in the hull providing natural light and spectacular views. Forward is the VIP double cabin with en suite access to the second head which also is fully equipped. To port and starboard are two bunk cabins with the starboard cabin also housing a washer/dryer. Back on the aft deck we find the external staircase giving access to the flybridge which features a central helm station, a big L-Shaped lounge to port, and another lounge to starboard. Maritimo also points out to the A55 Aegean Flybridge great performance, but also how economical it is to run with not so big twin Caterpillar C12 715hp diesels, giving a economical 25 knots cruise. While all this might be true it would have been nice from Maritimo to give some consumption and range figures to base this declaration. Worth to note is also that like the non flybridge C55 Sports Cabriolet which the A55 is based on, here we also find the tender garage, making it the smallest flybridge to offer this on the market today.
