Project: Michael Rybovich 70 Sportfisherman Hull#9

Michael Rybovich has in the end of 2022 starting to build its ninth hull, what will be a 70 Sportfisherman.  Fully custom and to be build in the jig method, Michael Rybovich hull nine will offer a four cabin with three heads interior, with an owners stateroom located forward, and a VIP suite located at midships on starboard side.  The living like most sportfish yachts of this size is on the main deck with a galley forward to starboard featuring a central bar alley, dinette opposite to port, and welcoming sofa on entrance.  Michael Rybovich 70 Sportfisherman is to be powered by twin Cats 2000hp.  Speed estimates are not given, but 68 Sportfisherman Hull#3 had a top speed of 42 knots in a smaller two foot length and one of beam and slightly less powerful engines.  So expect the 70 Sportfisherman Hull#9 wide open throttle numbers around the forty mark.

New Model: Viking 54 Open

The largest express-style yacht Viking has ever built, the 54 Open series consists of three models; the 54 Open, 54 Sport Coupe and 54 Sport Tower. The Open Series made its world premiere at last year’s 2021 Fort Lauderdale boat show with the Sport Coupe version featuring a custom radar mast atop a three-sided fiberglass deckhouse. A few months later, Viking showcased the 54 Sport Tower for the first time with the gorgeous FarNiente at the Miami boat show.  At the Fort Lauderdale 2022 in end October Viking completed the circle presenting the 54 Open which featured a custom Palm Beach tuna tower, and unlike the Sport Tower and Sport Coupe, this model has a three-sided wraparound windshield with space between it at the hardtop, allowing a more open-air environment on the command deck. The 54 O can also be delivered without a tuna tower as a sleek express yacht.  The 54 Open’s fiberglass windshield frame is designed and fabricated in-house at Viking adhering to strict tolerances, what is a single-piece fiberglass part perfect windshield.  Above is a shot of the show-bound first 54 Open in its final stages of construction, with a tower designed and fabricated at PBT in Riviera Beach, Florida. Atlantic Marine Electronics, another Viking subsidiary, has pre-installed the wiring for the tower electronics. The first Viking 54 Open also received a teak cockpit sole.  Back in New Jersey, the next 54 Open which will also be fitted with a PBT tower, is in the mechanical department ready for its powerplant of twin Man 1550hp and gyroscopic stabilizer Seakeeper 16 installations.

New Launch: Jarrett Bay 56 Open Convertible Hull #67

Since the launch of Hull #57 the 46 Sportfisherman in 2011 Jarrett Bay has taken an innovative approach in some of its custom builds which break the standard mold of the sportfish cruiser or yacht.  This recently launched fully custom Jarrett Bay 56 Open Convertible Hull #67 titled m/y Renegade is again following to that approach which I am sure comes from a challenging clients request, which the Carolina boat builder is ready to make for a happy customer.  Hull #67 for example may look your traditional sportfish convertible with flybridge, but upon closer inspection, you’ll find an additional lower helm station and convertible bulkhead that makes her a unique hybrid with the ability to transform and open its main deck.  This layout changes how the interior works with a main galley located on the lower deck, while a dinette and smaller galley is located on the main deck.  Accommodation is for four, with a master cabin forward, and a guest cabin with twin bunks to starboard.  Jarrett Bay’s ride characteristics and performance are complemented by twin MTU 1600hp which give the 56 Open Convertible top speed up to forty knots.

New Launch: Bayliss 72 B25

Bayliss has delivered hull B25, a 72 feet custom sportfish yacht titled Old Reliable. Old Reliable is a name long associated with the Bayliss Boatworks family. In 2003, offshore fly fishing legend Nick Smith, set out to build 64 B5 Old Reliable. Smith, with an already impressive fishing history, set new records and achieved great milestones with Hull 5. In 2019 he set the world record for the largest number of striped marlin caught and released on fly in a single day, and holds multiple other single day records as well. Over the years, Bayliss Boatworks was active in supporting Old Reliable with maintenance and up-fittings, whether state-side or abroad. So, in 2019 Bayliss Boatworks was commissioned to build Hull 25, the new 72 Old Reliable. Upon comparison, you will see many similarities between Hull 5 and 25, as Smith became adapted to many qualities on the original boat. With fourteen years between the builds, there was also great opportunity for modernization and improvement. The same excellence and attention to detail that are engrained in Smith’s fishing practice were utilized when it came time to develop the plans for Hull 25. The hull and topside are coated in Imron Cloud White with a black and gold boot stripe to match her black and gold transom artwork done by Everett Nautical. Hand selected natural teak-boards make up her interior cockpit and coverboards. The toe rail, helm pod and salon door are all faux teak courtesy of Izzy Teak. Her cockpit features a custom rigging station with live-well and rocket launcher. Mechanically, Old Reliable is powered with two CAT 1,925hp which make her reach a registered top speed of 39.5 knots fully loaded. She is equipped with a Seakeeper 18 aftm and a Seakeeper 9 forward for stability, two 25kw Northern Lights generators, and two FCI 1850 gallon per day water makers. Custom Marine Electronics has installed the latest in marine electronics, including a Furuno Omni Sonar. The interior of Bayliss B25 is designed to be accommodating and efficient with plenty of storage for extended offshore trips. The salon is comprised of one large custom L-shaped sofa on the port side and a bar area starboard side complete with a sink, a Hoshizaki cubelet icemaker, and custom actuated liquor storage. The galley features a Wolf 2 burner cooktop, a Viking microwave, two Subzero refrigerator units, one Subzero freezer unit, three Release Marine teak barstools, Nilo River granite countertops and natural cork flooring. The lower level optimizes both guest space and storage. To port is the master stateroom with adjoining master head and to starboard are two crew staterooms with a shared head. In the companionway there is rod and tackle storage and a stacked washer and dryer. At the end of the companionway forward, there is another master stateroom with adjoining head. Both starboard crew staterooms have stacked bunks with teak bases with entrances to the shared crew head. The captain’s stateroom features a TV with separate marine electronic screens. In the master, teak cabinets line the stateroom with two full height hanging lockers and extra storage found beneath the bunk.

New Launch: F&S 61 Hardtop Express Hull #30

FandS present the 61 hardtop express, hull number 30 and called Soul Candy by its owner.  FandS hull thirty was designed as a family-friendly express sportfish yacht with space for entertaining, with a host of custom options that allow the owner-operator to communicate and interact with the crew on fishing trips to the Gulf of Mexico and the Bahamas. One of the primary challenges with FandS hull #30 was to add a tall owner, and superior interior headroom. Keeping the sweeping lines FandS is known for, while accommodating someone of height, would require some out-of-the-gate thinking. The design team created a two meters plus character named Fred within the CAD program, who would be moved around the virtual boat to be sure proper clearance of areas such as the companionway, staterooms and showers. Cad-Fred was also integral to helm line-of-sight, both while running and to the angler in the fighting chair, and because the interior space is directly connected to all the exterior dimensions, it was necessary to consider every detail. FandS 61 Hardtop Express features an eleven squared meters cockpit deck which easily fits the large fighting chair with an offset pedestal and on-deck tuna tubes, essential when you plan on fighting some of the monsters living near the rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. The classic straight lines of the teak cockpit boards tame the curvy, signature FandS radial mezzanine and transom live-well. A giant lazarette is accessible by way of a Freeman Marine deck hatch located under the chair’s footrest and ensures safe, dry storage below for the multitude of systems located there. The bright interior of the helm deck is striking. The hardtop express design allows for a view of the world around her, and FandS takes the view to new levels by incorporating one giant piece of custom curved glass on each side. By doing so, there is little to break that uninterrupted sightline, providing a true, 360-degree perspective. FandS 61 Hardtop Express runs smooth and quiet at all speeds, thanks to the twin MTU 1600hp engines giving a solid cruising speed of 35 knots and a top end of 42 knots.

Classic Bertram Sinks in Fort Lauderdale

An eighteen meter classic Bertram sportfish yacht sank in the evening of thirty November while in its mooring on the Miami river, Fort Lauderdale.  The eighteen meter Bertram sank due to the neglect of recent years, with some reports stating it was not used and rotting in its slip for about ten years.  The day after to the sinking on the first December the yacht was taken and salvaged to the Bradford Yacht Service in Fort Lauderdale.
The Bertram in this photo is a 60 model, an evolution of the top selling 54 in length.  The 60 was produced from 1992 to 2002, and like the 54 and all Bertram's from 1972 till 1998 is designed by Dave Napier. The Bertram 60 like the 54 is renowned for having one of the best seaworthy hulls ever made. Napier modified Vee hull in the seventies was a change deep forefoot entry of forty degrees plus modifying to a closing medium Vee.  This hull design unlike a full deep Vee makes planning easier at slower speeds, and as a fishing platform rolls less in slow trolling on beamy seas   The Bertram 60 had an interior of three double cabins and three heads, with a rare four cabins option.  Power usually came from GM or Cat engines of 1300 to 1450hp allowing for top speeds up to the mid thirties with the large option.  In 1997 Studio Faggioni from Italy updated the interior and tiny bits of the exterior in the Bertram 60, creating the second generation series.   The Bertram 60 was replaced by the Zuccon designed 630 in 2003.
