A 26 meter Canados super yacht titled m/y Manta under Italian flag with eleven persons onboard, sank near Cap du Sentosa, to the South West of Corsica at about 06:30 of Thursday fifteen August. Manta was cruising its August family vacation in Corsica with its owners, the Magli family, with the owner Monica Magli, husband and captain being awake when a collision with an invisible reef breached the hull allowing a water ingress. With the noise from the collision to the reef, the rest of the guests who where asleep or still in there cabins awoke, and left the yacht, some of them still in there pajamas on its liferaft. Hearing the Mayday, a sailing yacht came for assistance first, with no success due to the reefs surrounding the area, which was followed by a catamaran who managed to collect the eleven passengers. A voluntary organization Le Sauveteurs En Mer came following to the scene with a crew of seventeen, which included three divers and a nurse and apart helping the yacht passengers also assisted them with a medical check, with only one man, Monica's husband Alberto needing assistance as he broke a foot finger. A recovery operation is being planned for the yacht with sinking area being banned for any swimming activities.
M/y Manta is a Canados 86 as produced from 2003 to 2017 in 46 units to a design of Marine Technology Services. The 86 is one of Canados best sellers, appreciated for its sea qualities in rough seas, good speed, and accommodation. The Canados 86 came out as a replacement to the 25, and was replaced by the 88 in 2018. Canados also build smaller off shots of the 86, like the 82S which was the first hull of the series, and the 80 model.
The Magli family founded Bruno Magli, an Italian luxury house that specializes in shoes and leather goods for men and women from Bologna Italy, started in 1936, and opened its first factory in 1941, with the company being part sold to Bulgari fund management Opera in 2001, and since 2015 owned by the Marquee Brands.
