A sport cruiser of about ten meters in length with two persons onboard went on fire first and then exploded at Cala Uccello, on the Pelagie Island of Lampedusa on an accident which happened on the late afternoon of fourth August. When the two persons saw the fire they jumped in the water, who were then collected by a young man which was nearby with his rib, transporting the two boaters to Cala Pisana. One of the two boaters, a 49 year old man from Lampedusa was taken to a polyclinic in Lampedusa for suffering from various fire burns, and was then later helicopter transported to an intensive therapy unit in Palermo. The Port Captaincy of Lampedusa has opened an investigation on the incident.
The ten meter sport cruiser in this fire looks to be a Gari 37 Shaitang as produced from the nineties and to the early noughties. The Gari 37 Shaitang was an evolution of the 35 Shaitang which was released in the eighties.
