Azimut Benetti Yachting Gala 2013 at Portofino

The Azimut|Benetti Group invited more than 600 select clients from all over the world to the sixth Yachting Gala, which took place during the last weekend of June in the splendid setting of Portofino. It gave guests the chance to see an exclusive preview of the brand new Azimut 80 and to raise a toast to Benetti, crowning the 140th anniversary celebrations for the oldest Italian superyacht boatyard. The weekend was full of events and smiles, smiles made even more special thanks to the charity initiative organised in partnership with the Operation Smile Italia Foundation, which is chaired by Santo Versace. This exclusive Yachting Gala for the numerous enthusiasts of Azimut Benetti’s luxury yachts has become a traditional event and was held this year on 29 and 30 June against the wonderful backdrop of Portofino. Over the two days the guests could spend all their time taking part in sea trials and visiting the splendid Azimut Benetti craft in this beautiful, unique setting. Portofino Marina was “branded” with the Azimut Yachts name thanks to a two-year partnership that involves the company based in Avigliana sponsoring the jetties and staff uniforms. At the end of each day dedicated to the fun and the pleasure of sailing there were gala evenings reserved for important celebrations.  The weekend opened on Friday 28 June with an exciting gala evening in honour of Benetti’s “first” 140 years. After the important celebrations held during Milan Design Week 2013 and the Rio de Janeiro Boat Show, the oldest Italian superyacht boatyard returned to Europe for a special toast reserved for all the people who have really made the company a success: its latest clients and the most loyal boat owners from all over the world. Clients with ideas and expectations that represent new challenges and constant stimuli to maintain excellence in technology and construction: the only conceivable course for the boatyard’s next 140 years. Together with Benetti, the evening’s special partners were the Antico Setificio Fiorentino, Cà del Bosco and Stefano Ricci, as Benetti ambassadors around the world who reflect the utmost in high quality Italian craftsmanship. Saturday and Sunday offered plenty of opportunities for sea trials and tours to explore the Azimut collections. The special guest star among the 18 models set up for the occasion was the new Azimut 80, which was available in an exclusive preview to the 600 plus guests invited by the Italian Group, the leading company in luxury craft production, as a mark of the special attention that the Group has always paid its clients. Azimut 80, scheduled to be officially presented at the Cannes Boat Show in September 2013, is the first boat longer than 72 feet to be entirely designed at Avigliana and is fitted with incredible panoramic windows and guest cabins that offer the utmost in comfort and are destined to revolutionise the way we sail. Most importantly the Yachting Gala 2013 was also an opportunity for the Azimut|Benetti Group to plan and achieve an important objective: to finance the work of the non-profit Operation Smile Italia Foundation chaired by Santo Versace, by raising enough funds to allow at least 200 children to smile again, and at the same time to give them a new life. Like the event as a whole, this initiative was a great success too, thanks to the enthusiasm and the awareness of Azimut|Benetti’s friends, a sign (which cannot be stressed enough) that the strength that comes from working together can really make a difference: we not only reached our goal, we went beyond it – 420 will be children who will benefit from the care and carry on a normal life thanks to the generosity of donations. The Foundation consists of volunteer doctors, nurses and health workers who carry out humanitarian missions in more than sixty countries around the world, correcting serious injuries and deformities through plastic surgery.

Bayliner President Letter

When you make people happy for a living, it's hard not to love your work. As president of the global leader in recreational runabout boats, I am lucky to have just that kind of job. Bayliner has been sharing the "So Worth It!" on-water lifestyle with fun-loving families for decades, and I am honored to be a part of that. Over the past several years, the feedback from Bayliner owners has been a wholehearted thumbs up. That affirmation is best symbolized by Bayliner's five consecutive Marine Industry CSI awards, which are only awarded based on exceptionally high customer-satisfaction scores from new boat owners. The happiness of all those owners reflects just as brightly on Bayliner's worldwide dealer network. Bayliner dealers don't just sell our boats; they support you throughout the ownership experience, meeting any of your boating needs. Toward that end, our engineers and boat builders work tirelessly to continually update and reinvent our product line. Take our new Deck Boats, which offer the capacity for big crews and even bigger on-water aspirations. Then of course there is Element, our innovative new M-hulled 16-foot runabout that has captured the imagination of the boating world since its debut at the New York Boat Show. We've always prided ourselves on remaining accessible to boaters of all budgets and experience levels. That's why Bayliner has kept its Scorching Summer Sale in full swing through mid-August; prices on two of the world's most popular models, the 175 and 185 Bowriders, have been slashed with rebates. Truly, Bayliner is More Loved, More Chosen, More Dependable and More Thoughtful than our competition.

Belize Arrives in USA

The first Belize 54 Sedan has now arrived in Florida in the United States where she will make her American debut. Riviera’s International Sales Director, Chris McCafferty said the new Belize Motoryacht line had attracted a lot of interest from boating enthusiasts in the Americas. Australian couple Richard and Annette Barnes took delivery of the first Belize 54 Sedan in April 2012. As seasoned seafarers with 10 long distance voyages under their belts, the Runaway Bay couple ordered their new Belize 54 Sedan off the plan and worked closely with designers to ensure their dream boat met all of their cruising requirements. Mr Barnes said the boat building process was an exciting journey.  The couple selected a stainless steel bench for the galley and a host of electronics and navigation aids including, two 15” G Series Raymarine screens plus AIS, radar, a second depth sounder, a weather station showing wind speed and direction, thermal night vision camera, engine room and anchor cameras. Mr and Mrs Barnes tested out their new Belize 54 on her maiden voyage from the Gold Coast to Bait Reef in tropical North Queensland, a round trip of some 1400 nautical miles. Mr Barnes said the Belize was a class act. The Belize 54 Sedan feels very large in scale with its full beam master stateroom and wide side decks which make moving around the exterior of the yacht very easy and comfortable. Everything is well proportioned and feels substantial. Then there is the saloon and connection to the large cockpit and all the little design details and different fittings that are a credit to the attention to detail, level of quality and craftsmanship.  Such is the quality of a Belize Motoryacht and the confidence in the brand, a five year structural warranty is offered by Belize. The bespoke Motor Yacht line, Belize Motoryachts is inspired by classic luxury details and timeless style, Belize Motoryachts has just released the new 54 foot Sedan and Day Bridge models

Heesen Yachts New Board Members

Heesen is very pleased to announce that Mark Cavendish has been appointed as Sales and Marketing Director. Mark replaces Fabio Ermetto, who left our company at the end of June 2013. Mark has worked closely with Fabio at Heesen Yachts for many years (since 2008), and has more than 35 years experience in the naval and yachting industry. Mark will further professionalise the sales and marketing operations of our company. In addition, we are very pleased to announce that Niels Vaessen also joins our board of directors, in the capacity of Finance Director. Niels has previously worked at PwC and has been working for Heesen as finance manager since 2012. Together with Hans Boerakker, who already is a managing board member and will continue in his capacity of Production Director, our managing board is now again composed of three managing board members. We are confident that this new team will successfully manage the shipyard and continue to build on the existing strengths within the company.

Horizon Green Energy Initiative

Since its establishment in 2000, Atech composites, a member of Horizon Group, has been fully committed to researching and employing the best manufacturing methods for FRP composite hulls and large yacht components. In the past few years, Atech has extended their FRP efforts to wind blade repairs, drawing upon our advanced yacht building experience and technology to help promote green energy sources, and Horizon currently holds status as the only shipyard in Asia that both manufacturers yacht hulls and repairs wind blades. Horizon's foray into wind blade technology began in 2009, when Atech successfully created the first 42-meter wind blade; in 2012, Atech was certified by GL to professionally repair wind blades, and this year, we are happy to report that Atech has gained blade repair orders from three well-known companies in Taiwan. GL certification is a requirement in the wind power industry, as there is a strict standard for materials and repair quality, and workers, procedures and documents must all be inspected prior to the start of a project. Atech also upholds the ISO quality system, which is adhered to in the manufacture of all Horizon yachts, during all wind blade repairs, and our engineers are able to repair the blades on-site or 50m in the air, while the blade is still assembled. As the demand for renewable energy sources grows in Taiwan, Horizon is confident that our green energy initiative will help breathe new life into the wind blade industry.

Also suppliers were invited to answer technical questions from guests. Riviera, Australia’s favourite and most awarded luxury boat builder has continued to defy industry trends recording AUD$37 million in luxury new boat sales in eight weeks, including two 63 Enclosed Flybridges and two of the company’s flagship 75 Enclosed Flybridges bound for Australian and international owners. These large boat sales come just weeks after Riviera’s popular Festival of Boating in May, which recorded 14 new boat sales from right across the diverse range totalling AUD$21 million. These latest sales totalling more than AUD$16 million are a further positive sign for Riviera as the company heads into the Sydney International Boat Show, which opens on Thursday this week. At the Sydney show, Riviera will stage a large floating display featuring eight new models including the world release of the new 50 Enclosed Flybridge and the Sydney debut of the new 565 SUV. Riviera’s chairman and owner Rodney Longhurst said that 65 per cent of the boat sales achieved since the Festival of Boating represented export sales.  Riviera’s Chief Executive Officer, Wes Moxey said Riviera’s forward order bank for Riviera was continuing to grow and that the company was now looking to bolster staff numbers as a result of demand. Riviera’s Sydney International Boat Show display will be located on the southern end of the Cockle Bay Marina, Darling Harbour from August 1 to 5.

Riviera Welcomes Hollywood

Hollywood film stars John Cusack and Thomas Jane put the pedal to the metal in a challenging and thrill-filled Hard Drive through Riviera’s manufacturing facility recently. The high-speed car chase through Riviera’s 14-hectare state-of-the-art Coomera factory was filmed for an action packed scene in the multi-million dollar feature film Hard Drive which is due for international release in 2014. Directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith, Hard Drive, is a film about an American thief (Cusack) who arrives in Brisbane looking for a getaway driver. He hires ex-Formula One driver turned driving school instructor (Jane), who puts his Formula One driving skills to the test in a thrilling car chase around notable Gold Coast icons including the Q1, Surfers Paradise and Riviera in a bid to outrun the police and the mob. The car chase certainly revved up on set at Riviera with Cussack and Jane weaving around and under multi-million dollar luxury boats narrowly missing the massive propellers, zooming through the factory floor, passed boats under construction and with the police in hot pursuit it was time to cut to the next scene with cameras strapped to the car windscreen to take in all the in car action. Riviera’s director of brand and communications Stephen Milne said it was an honour to have the large film crew on site at the home of Australia’s largest and most awarded luxury boat builder.

Albert Gerritsma of Selene Yachts Northern Europe gave a presentation on future plans and developments within Selene Yachts Europe. One of the owners talked about sailing in his native land of New Caledonia. And the presentation by Guido de Groot was also very interesting: He talked about his work as a designer, with special attention for the philosophy behind the new larger Selene Yachts Ocean Explorer models. Sunseeker Gets Eddie Jordan Visit

Following on from an eventful weekend at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Eddie Jordan paid a visit to Sunseeker to meet the team and catch a glimpse of the 155 Yacht.  This was Eddie's second visit to see the new Sunseeker 155 Yacht and the team in charge of the build were delighted to meet him once again. They worked tirelessly in the lead up to the visit so that Mr Jordan could see the progress of the Yacht. The timing of Eddie's visit meant he was able to see some of the key milestones in place thanks to a guided tour courtesy of the Sunseeker team. Starting on the upper deck and gradually making his way down to the lower decks, Eddie was able to get a closer look at the new installed mouldings, and also the nearly completed engine room. What's more, Eddie and his team were able to relax in the crew mess and soak up the comforts of the 155 Yacht for a while. Eddie finished his visit by acknowledging the skill and effort put in by the Sunseeker team to create the new Yacht. Thriving in the world of Formula 1, Eddie certainly has an appreciation for finely engineered, precision engineering, so his endorsement meant a great deal to the team.

Viking Ocean Showdown

As fishing tournaments go, the Viking/Ocean Showdown is nothing short of an amazing family event sandwiched between two great days of offshore fishing. What began as a friendly rivalry 23 years ago between the Healey family of Viking and the Leek family of Ocean 24th edition took place on July 10-14, 2013 at the Canyon Club Marina in Cape May, New Jersey. After several years in a row taking the coveted Viking/Ocean Showdown Trophy, the Viking team came up a little short in this year's tournament with Ocean Yachts scoring 601 points to Viking's 300.5. Viking had a few highlights with Justin Healey catching the heaviest tuna at 154 pounds aboard the Viking 70 an impressive feat on 30 pound line. Wayne McGee aboard the Krazy Salt's, another Viking 70 Convertible, took the top dolphin slot with a 34-pounder. Brian Martin fishing on the Y's Guys captured the Top Junior Angler prize with an 11 pound dolphin. As always, the team from South Jersey Yacht Sales and the Canyon Club Marina did an outstanding job keeping all the participants well fed and entertained throughout the event, which began with the Captain's meeting on Wednesday, July 10th. The pool party on Thursday was interrupted with summer showers, but the troops regrouped in the big tent and enjoyed a flavorful bar-b-que during the afternoon. Fishing resumed Friday and Saturday and concluded with the Awards Banquet the night of July 13th. Congratulations to all of those participating in the family friendly tournament, a popular Cape May fixture for 24 years.

Viking One Two

Cowpoke's decisive win at the Treasure Cay Championship propelled the Viking 61 into first place in the overall 2013 Bahamas Billfish Championship standings. Despite the lead, Cowpoke needed a strong performance in the final tournament of the Series to insure the overall title. Several contenders for the crown were within striking distance. One such contender was the Viking 61 Blue Eagle whose owner, Brad Jones, changed his team's tournament itinerary to include the Series' final leg at Marsh Harbour. During the Marsh Harbour Championship, Cruiser Crews' Cowpoke added one blue marlin, one white marlin and a sailfish to their total. Blue Eagle, on the other hand, released three blues, won the tournament and picked up some bonus points. Cowpoke's bounty was enough to insure First Place Overall for the Florida cattle rancher whose team won the Series. Blue Eagle finished the season in Second Place Overall in the Championship. During the 2013 season, team Cowpoke released five blues, eleven whites and three sailfish. The team finished first at Treasure Cay and third in the Guana Cay Championship. Cowpoke captain Mike Brady received the Lindsay Forde Memorial Trophy. Fishing three of the four BBC tournaments, Blue Eagle released six blues, four whites and two sailfish. Those points and bonus points for a first place at Marsh Harbour and a third place at Treasure Cay resulted in a Second Place Overall trophy.

Project: Cranchi 54 HT

Cranchi goes into the fall of 2013 with four important new models from 29 up to 54 feet in size.  This project coming in the Hard Top line will introduce a 54 feet, new model for 2014, and is born on the hull of the 54 Fly model introduced in 2012.  The 54 HT project leverages the layout of the interior and all the mechanics on the Fly version, with an attractive Hard Top designed by Cranchi Design Centre suiting the lines of a sport yacht of this size should have.  To remind you the interior of the 54 offers a three double cabins lower deck, with a full beam owners stateroom, and a saloon with a forward galley arrangement adjacent to the helm station this located to starboard.  A new concept for the 54 HT is the sunbathing deck above the saloon with stairs leading being electrical and disappearing in the extended hard top covering the aft deck when not in use. Power engines are the same as those proposed for the Fly version: twin Volvo 600 or optional larger 700hp units both powered with IPS pods.  Top speeds should be a max of 32 knots with standard engines, and 34 knots with the twin 700hp units.

Project: Fairline 48 Squadron

Fairline has been very clever in its recent total new model adventure, placing out three designs with the use of one hull and all of these targeting different type customers uses and needs. The 48 Squadron as understood is based on the hull of the recently launched Targa Open, and soon to come Targa Gran Turismo of the same designation.  The 48 Squadron as has always been since the 62 launched with this name in the early nineties is a flybridge type cruiser.  This new Squadron also marks itself as being the first pod driven flybridge boat by Fairline. As expected this new Squadron is very similar in many regards to the other 48's from Fairline in the layout and external looks, with the main differences coming in the aft deck, and the spacious flybridge up top.  Since the past decade Fairline has often been credited of offering among the larger flybridges for size, and this seems to be again true with this new 48 Squadron.  Up top the 48 Squadron definitely scores points for the large L-shaped settee which can convert to a huge sun pad, which comes along with some other nice details as a wet bar, and forward facing settee alongside the dual seat helm station located to port.  Down below the offer is again for a choice of three double cabins, or two cabin plan with the double bunk berths replaced by an L-shaped saloon settee in the later plan.  The owners stateroom is a full beam amidships located with an en-suite shower head.  A galley is located below in between the cabins, which is a feature Fairline should rethink on the 48 Squadron considering how much astern kitchens have gained in popularity in recent times. Power for the 48 Squadron is twin Volvo 435hp engines with IPS pod drives.

John Freeman 1917 - 2013

It is with regret that we have to announce the death of Mr John Freeman one of the pioneers of the modern marine industry. He passed away peacefully at home in Devon on Friday 26th July 2013, two days before his 96th birthday.  Mr Freeman who led an interesting life and sparkled with energy and enthusiasm was one of the paramount leisure craft manufacturers from the 1950's to the 1980's. He manufactured over 6500 cruisers from 22ft to 41ft with a range of 27 models. Mr Freeman was born into a farming family in 1917; he was very keen on woodwork and by the age of 12 was making poultry houses to help sustain his family. At 17 he built his first caravan - it had a wooden frame and 'deck chair' canvas for the sides! He spent the war years in the RAF continuing the caravan construction while on leave and after his de-mob in 1946.  At this time polyester resin was an unknown quantity but he experimented with it during the development of his caravans. GRP caravans were very heavy and not so successful however the idea of a boat led to the first GRP production line for family cruisers with the 'birth' of the iconic Freeman 22 in 1957. The introduction of the Freeman brand was at Olympia during the London Motor Show. Mr Freeman, at this time, revolutionised the industry by producing a ready to go, all the comforts of home, user friendly boat you could just order. There was no longer any need to commission an architect to design or a boat-builder to construct your individual vessel. The highest quality craftsmanship and materials were used in production to the degree of buying a tree and using the same grained veneer throughout each cruiser. As there were very few wholesalers at this time Mr Freeman designed and manufactured his own fittings. The continued success of the Freeman brand is owing to the fact that we are able to continue to supply virtually all of the original fittings and through the Freeman Owners Club we expect to be able to secure their future.  Mr Freeman will be greatly missed but his inspiration will live on.

New Model: Windy 29 Coho

Presented in the early part of 2013, the new Windy 29 Coho is a natural evolution and replacement of the long standing 28 Ghibli model, and incorporates the Norwegian builder latest design stints.  Designer Hans-Jorgen Johnsen was quick to put Windy's freshest looks as shown in other previous latest models as the 31 Zonda, or 26 Kharma; case in point is the similar outside lines, windshield profile, and electric canopy function.  Still the new 29 Coho adds new stuff of its own as the three view hull windows in the cabin, which add a yacht feature to the sports aggressive lines of the outside.  The 29 Coho is a sports boat still it offers adequate accommodation for a couple down below for a short trip or a weekend cruise thanks to a double berth, separate shower head, and small galley.  Power is a Volvo a single engine from 260 up to 370hp units.  Twin power options should be available at a later stage.

Project: Princess V48 Open

In May 2013 Plymouth based shipyard Princess Yachts launched their first sports boat designed with the Volvo IPS pods propulsion system, the V48, which is set to make her international debut at the  Southampton Boat Show in September. Now for those who want the simplicity of IPS with a true open boating experience, Princess is pleased to announce the launch of the V48 Open.  The V48 Open features a spacious open cockpit with generous seating around a teak table, creating the perfect space to enjoy life on deck. There is a further ‘J’ shaped seat forward, adjacent to the twin helm seats providing companion seating when underway. Aft of the cockpit is a large sunbed positioned above the tender garage which can accommodate a three meter jet RIB. An electrically operated sliding sun roof provides versatility to enjoy the complete open boating experience.  Like her sister model, the V48 Open’s resin infused hull is designed to quicken the transition to plane, improving efficiency whilst delivering outstanding performance and handling. Combined with the Volvo IPS joystick control, the V48 Open is a highly capable craft both at sea and at close quarters. Below decks, the V48 Open provides accommodation for up to six guests with two large en-suite cabins including a full beam owner’s stateroom amidships and a forward guest cabin, which can be specified with an optional ‘scissor berth’ system to create a double or twin beds as required. The generous saloon seating can be converted to provide additional sleeping space for occasional guests.  The Princess V48 Open will make her international debut at the Cannes show in September 2013.

News: Nord West July 2013

The Aquistion
Wednesday, 10th of july, Runo Gillholm could with great pleasure announce that the purchase of the North West and Najad was a fact.  "It is with great joy and anticipation we can participate in the reconstruction of the Nord West and Najad's brand," said Runo Gillholm, owner and founder of Gill Holm Marina since 1992. New Model: Nordhavn N120

The Nordhavn 120 hull number one has undergone successful ocean trials and departed the South Coast Marine factory in Xiamen, China on July 12th. The yacht will be delivered by a crew of staff from Pacific Asian Enterprises, Inc. including Nordhavn’s vice president, Jim Leishman, and Chief of Design, Jeff Leishman. One port of call was scheduled for Hong Kong on July 16th. From there the crossing will take approximately 25 days with an arrival to Vancouver in mid-August. Due to logistics, the sheer mass of the vessel as well as economic factors, it’s been concluded that N120 hull number one will be delivered on her own bottom. With a non-stop range from China to Vancouver running at displacement speed, the decision to “drive” her home was made thoughtfully, however, confidently.  After nearly five years from concept to construction, P.A.E. is thrilled and greatly anticipates the impending unveiling of the Nordhavn 120 at the boat shows in the fall of 2013. Our architecture and design team, together with the craftsmen at South Coast, engineering contractors, the phenomenal interior design staff at Destry Darr and countless vendors have cultivated a world class yacht. At the surface, the N120 is a naval engineering feat; as capable as it is luxurious. But the yacht also proves to be a symbol of P.A.E., persevering at a time when the superyacht market is in a virtual tailspin.

Project: Island Pilot 310

Island Pilot presents the project of an entry level 310, taking a fresh approach in creating a smaller, more affordable, economical, motor cruiser.  Accommodation wise the 310 presents an island double berth in the bow, with a second cabin with an extra-long double berth. Both cabins are in the bow, next to the head. Immediately across from the head is the pantry with additional storage for provisions. The master has a pair of full-height hanging lockers, a bureau to starboard plus shelves and lockers. The main deck saloon has a raised settee to port, efficient galley to starboard, opening side windows and functional helm with instrument cluster. Double sliding polycarbonate doors open to the aft cockpit, combining both spaces to create a large social area. The roomy aft deck has a comfortable L-shaped settee, steps to the side decks and a door opening to the integrated swim platform.  Island Pilot feels that the needs of one cruising couple are not necessarily those of another, that is why the 310 is offered in three different engine set ups suiting explorer go slow, planning speed fans, and semi displacement shafts options. Engines choices start from a single 125hp, go to twin 220hp with line shafts, and end with double stern drives of 300hp.  Top speed is over 30 knots with the more powerful engine choice.

New Model: Jeanneau NC14

Jeanneau NC line has received extremely positive feedback since it first appeared in the market on 2010 with the 11 model.  Prove to this is that the 11 was soon followed by an NC9 in 2012, and now Jeanneau adds it with the new NC14 flagship.  The NC14 is again a design from Garroni who was helped by Jeanneau, and for this model also by British Tony Castro.  The NC14 follows what her smaller sister did before her, a fully enclosed sport cruiser with plenty of live aboard features able to make a long period cruise extremely comfortable.   Prove to this is for example the lazarette located amidships,  which has space for a washing machine, a wine cellar, and a freezer.  The interior layout offers two cabins below, and a choice to have a second guest shower head or this to be replaced with a small office in the owners room and a large walk in wardrobe.  The main deck is a functional affair with a C-shaped saloon, dinette, and to port side, and a dining table for four to port side.  Some nice details making life on-board easier are to be found all around; the sliding door by the helm station to starboard, the fully opening patio aft, sun roof, and nice safe walk deck wider to the right. The Jeanneau NC11 is powered by twin Volvo, from a standard 300hp or optional 370 units with IPS pod drives.

Project: Clipper 28 Hudson Bay

Down-under Clipper Moor Yachts shows the project for a new smallest model the 28 Hudson Bay, a sedan that is hand built and designed in the classic lines resembling cruisers from the fifties, and a bit of lobster looks into it but built to today’s technology, styling and optioned with the latest features.  The 28 Hudson Bay brings the classic lines of yesteryear together with today’s components and fit out. A combination of hand laid fiberglass hull and deck, a choice of classic hull colours, molded hardtop with large overhanging roof, sliding tinted side windows, a sunroof and hand finished Aniegre wood trim and accents.  The 28 Hudson Bay is designed with a generous cabin with two berths, a galley, fridge and separate shower/toilet.  Good thinking is also given to give undercover protection in the cockpit with a double forward facing helm seat that reverses at anchor for relaxing and entertaining, with  seating in the rear, a large over sized swim platform completes the package. The 28 Hudson Bay is powered by a Steyr 144hp diesel electronic engine with shaft drive efficiency.  Launching is scheduled for November 2013.

New Model: Fairline Targa 48 Open

A real nice new model from Fairline this is in small words the new Targa 48 Open.  This new model shows a couple of stints from Fairline, the first is the use of the word Open in the word designation which is something I think we will see more in future large Targa models without a patio door dividing the saloon from the aft deck.  The second is the return of the Volvo IPS pods on a Fairline model.  Fairline had the Targa 44 GT launched to high acclaim in 2007 with Volvo pod drives, only to be made a stern drive boat in the fall of 2009 up until the end of production in 2012.  The Targa 48 Open features a spacious main deck with a traditional layout of an aft sun pad able to accommodate a jet tender just short of three meters, a large C-shaped settee, an L-shaped lounger to port, and a helm station to starboard.  The Targa 48 definitely feels Open, when one for example opens all the electric canvas roof.  Down below the Targa 48 Open comes standard with a two cabins layout; having a full beam owners cabin amidships, and a VIP suite to fore which can become two single berths thanks to its scissor movement.  In between the cabins is a galley to port and an L-shaped saloon to starboard.  In case one opts for the three cabins version the saloon settee is replaced for a twin bunk berths cabin.  Power is twin Volvo 435hp with IPS600 forward looking pod drives.
Technical Data:
LOA - 15.38 m (50.5ft)
LOA - 14.73 m ex bathing platform

New Model: Sunseeker 80 Sport Yacht

Another exciting new exclusive on PowerYachtBlog, this time coming courtesy to one of our British friends, picturing one of the novelties from Suneeker to be launched in the coming fall; the 80 Sport Yacht just as the model was launched outside of the builder premises in Poole. The Sunseeker 80 Sport Yacht is a further development of the Predator model of the same designation launched the past September 2012.  As is a standard procedure in recent times on sport yachts over twenty meters, the difference between the two models is the addition of a flybridge or as sometimes it is called a sports bridge in the 80 Sport Yacht. Still Sunseeker seem to offer a spacious offer up top with the bridge having a C-shaped settee to starboard, a central wet bar, and a two driver and co-pilot seats serving the helm to port.   For the rest this model is the same as the 80 Predator with four double guest suites, a crew cabin to aft, and a full lounging saloon main deck.  Power options start from standard twin MTU 1550hp, optional 1950hp units, and the surface drive only available 2640hp fast performing large offer.
Technical Data:
LOA - 24,9 m (81.8ft)

Fuel Capacity - 6000 l
Water Capacity - 1200l

Improve-it = Sabre 54 Salon Express

Sabre have re-designed the 54 Salon Express  with a number of unique features and design elements mostly involving the galley, the day head, but also a new engine choice. The 54 Saloon Express most important improvement comes from the galley highlighting the open interior layout with the half-way down position.  In this redesign the cabinet joinery details fine woodworking have also been tweaked to a higher standard.  Other new features of the galley are the upscale fixtures, the dishwasher and the sub-zero drawer refrigerators.  Another great feature of the 54 layout: the Day Head has received a tweak.  This space is well designed and yet extremely practical, the benefit of a day head is that it keeps traffic out of the staterooms which translates into the greatest level of privacy for owners and guests. Outboard surfaces of the day head are covered with solid cherry staving with Sabre’s signature hand rubbed finish.  It blends wonderfully with the cherry and stainless steel grab rail located under the counter.  There will be lots of light in this space with a full mirror bulkhead and full mirror door. Also worth noting is that the Sabre 54 will be one of the first production boats to be fitted with the Volvo IPS950 which should give a cruise speed in the high 20’s and a top end speed over 30 knots.

Project: Pershing 62

A new project from Pershing is always great news and the Adriatic sea builder now showcases a new 62, which is to be presented live in September at the Cannes boat show.  As is a trade mark for Pershing since its inception in the mid eighties this model is again a creation of Italian designer Fulvio de Simoni, with Ferretti Group technical departments taking care of the engineering details.   The Pershing 62 is an evolution of the 56 and 58 models, sold up till today in over seventy units, and features the same beam of 4.80 meters which suggest the hull should be the same for the most part, with an extra length of three feet.  Still the design of the super structure is entirely new with larger profile windows, and another important difference you get from a 58 to a 62 is also the full enclosed but possible to open all main deck arrangement. An interesting feat here is the single glass which slides down behind the L-shaped sofa which overlooks the aft deck.  Inside the Pershing 62 is offered in two layouts; a three or a two cabins option.  In the two cabins Master and VIP, the third cabin is replaced with a saloon which also has an option of having a convertible double berth.  So far no plans are available as it would be interesting how the layout is different to a 58.  A single berth crew cabin is featured in both the plans.  Power is twin MTU 1381 or optional 1523hp engines with ZF surface drives.  Top speed is 46 knots max with the large choice, three nautical miles per hour less with the smaller standard engines.  Pershing always offers smaller engine options but each time I am looking in brokerage web sites you hardly find a single unit with smaller power, so I don't know why they bother.

New Model: Cigarette 38 AMG Electric Drive

Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing are launched the latest development of their cooperation at the Miami International Boat Show past February 2013. Numerous components from the SLS AMG Coupè Electric Drive have been integrated in the design of the "Cigarette 38 AMG Electric Drive Concept" engineering design. The high-performance drive fitted in the electric super sports car makes the off-shore powerboat the world's most powerful and fastest electrically driven motor boat. With an output of 2,220hp and a maximum torque of 3000 Newton metres the Cigarette 38 AMG Electric Drive is a fascinating new development.  Inspiration for the drive was very close to home for the US-American company, with the SLS AMG Coupè Electric Drive being the world's most powerful and fastest electrically driven series production vehicle in America. The technology, performance and design of the Cigarette powerboat is closely based on the electric super sports vehicle made in Affalterbach, Germany. This joint project underlines the technology leadership earned by Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing.  The 38 foot long Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept powerboat is finished in "AMG Electricbeam magno" - the matt chrome paintwork exclusively reserved for the SLS AMG Coupe Electric Drive. Proudly wearing AMG logos on the side, the powerboat is a clear sign of the alliance between the Miami-based boat manufacturer and Mercedes-AMG GmbH from Affalterbach, Germany. The design features also exemplify the transfer of technology from the gullwing to the powerboat. Mercedes-AMG uses two drive units, each featuring six independent electric motors. At the rear of the boat, each drive unit has its own transmission, one on the left and one on the right. A glance at the engine data proves that the boat is fitted with the twelve compact, liquid-cooled permanent-magnet synchronous electric motors which are the signature piece of the SLS AMG Coupè Electric Drive: each electric motor delivers 138 kW and 250 Newton metres. The maximum output of 1656 Kilowatts and maximum torque of 3000 Newton metres combine to reach a staggering top speed of over 80 knots making this locally emission-free "Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept" the world's fastest electrically driven powerboat. In keeping with the SLS AMG Coupè Electric Drive, the motors and the battery are ideally placed in the "Cigarette AMG Electric Drive Concept". The low centre of gravity and optimum weight distribution ensure sublime handling characteristics during more dynamic changes of direction.

New Model: Couach 2600 Fly

Couach launched the 2600 FLY on the 24th of June on the Arcachon Bay. With this new model, the French shipyard re-enters the eighty feet sector also referred to as the entry level super yacht size since some time and broadens the scope of its catalogue that features thirteen models from 14 to 50 metres. The Couach 2600 Fly is designed to fill the gap in the range of 22 and 28 metre models, creating a perfect expression of what the shipyard does best: a compact, and functional yacht for enjoyable life on-board and sailing. With a new approach to on-board passenger circulation and space management, the 2600 FLY offers all the trademark features that have established Couach’s reputation: V-shaped planing hull, composite materials, speed, stability and agility, with shaft line propulsion. Couach in-house designer Franck Reynaud began this project with a blank page and has imagined a contemporary model consistent with today’s trends, in keeping with the brand’s distinctive lines that reflect its precision, commitment and marine qualities. Particular among the new features are the stylistic effects borrowed from the 50 metre yacht design; the bow layout, uncommon on a deep Vee shape hull; the flying bridge layout and the large sliding side doors that open the lounge onto the sea. To define the options for layout, always entirely customisable at Couach shipyard, the client drew on ideas from La Pellegrina, the 50 metre super yacht built in 2012. Ambitious choices that led the teams to make even better use of space and stretch every limit. The result is perfect and within its 26 metres and four cabins the 2600 Fly combines all the assets one would expect on a larger vessel. The 2600 Fly will be presented to the press and the public at the Cannes Boat Show in September 2013.

New Model: Maritimo S50 Motoryacht

Maritimo introduces the new S50 Motoryacht, perfect for those looking for everything on the one level. An evolution of the best selling M48, and the M50 Flybridge Motoryacht models, the S50 was well received both in Australia and internationally. The S50 is an interesting sport yacht offering space, fuel efficiency, and performance.  Aboard nice design features include the wide walk around decks, spacious saloon, and the galley aft design with full-size fridge and a well-appointed pantry.  Below is a full beam master stateroom with an abundance of storage in drawers, hanging lockers and underneath the master bed. The mezzanine level above the master has lockers, drawers, a full-length mirror and vanity, ensuring ultimate convenience for all occasions. Guests are accommodated in a guest suite forward, bunks to starboard, and a day head serving both cabins.  The stern has two different options for you to choose from; Maritimo's conventional island module or the new Euro transform with plush seating and rear access to the lazarette.  Twin Volvo 670hp powers the S50 Motoryacht with the choice of either traditional shaft or pod drives if requested, and a hull design made for excellent sea keeping. Project: Viking 42 ST

Creating a model within a model has been a successful path for Viking as demonstrated by the 42 Convertible and 42 Open, which share the same hull with uniquely different deck and interior arrangements. The popularity of these new models has encouraged Viking to expand this theme with a pair of new 42s with striking profiles and special features that showcase  an ability to broaden the appeal of this versatile hull.  Using its five-axis profiler,  Viking designed and built a plug and a female mold to create a rakish fiberglass deckhouse module, fully open to the cockpit while incorporating stylish convertible window lines, and the roof overhang and cabin trails. The 42 ST will be a sharp looking rig with its fitted Palm Beach Towers tuna tower. Add a pair of outriggers and this boat is an ideal ride for the sailfish circuit, cobia hunting and cruising the Bahamas.  Both the 42 ST and 42 SC sport the familiar twin mezzanine cockpit of the Open, along with the practical and feature full bridge deck and a center console station with the available teak finish helm pod, flanking lounge seating, and an inviting interior with teak joinery, a master stateroom forward, and twin berths aft separated by the salon, the head, and galley. With their eclectic style along with the superb running characteristics of the responsive and sea-kindly Viking 42 resin infused hull powered by 600hp Cummins diesels and the articulating Zeus pod-drive propulsion system with joystick controls, these new models are an exciting addition to the Viking line.

New Model: Magazzu MX-14 Coupe

Magazzu launches the first of its MX-14 model series, the Coupe.  This will soon be joined by the Classic version which features a smaller cockpit and longer fore deck, and more spacious interior.  Nonetheless the MX-14 Coupe has also a not so bad cabin layout inside, considering the massive full space outside you get from fore to stern, including two large L-shaped dinettes in mid cockpit.  The cabin offers sleeping accommodation for four persons in a double master cabin to fore, and a convertible L-shaped saloon.  A shower head serves guest to port side.  A galley is located outside behind the centre console helm.  Power is always a variation of what the customer needs on all the Magazzu's with max engine power available up to twin engines totalling 960hp, and stern drive propulsion.  Hull one featured the large Volvo diesel stern drives choice of twin 400hp units.

blogger - Finally

Some sense comes to those managing classes in Europe, and here I am speaking of the Italian government who finally decided to remove the owning tax on yachts up till fourteen meters, and reduce by half from 14.01 till twenty meters.
Better late then never!
Surely this is not enough for what the Italian Yachting industry represents and how the technical government of Monti nearly destroyed and brought it down to nothing.  With the tax, ten years of knowledge and workmanship was lost. Yacht purchase should be promoted not destroyed, and not pictured as a tax evasion hobby of a few elitists, and the root of all evil.  There is so much benefits from yachting in general from the work they bring in marinas, to the building of accessories and the yachts themselves. Something which Italy was always part of.
This is the first breath of fresh air to the Italian boat builders, those affiliated with the industry, and the boaters themselves. Lets hope as they say that the streets lead all to Rome, and that this is followed by other European counties, along with the people managing the rules at Brussels who should incentive boat buying and using as much as they can.
