Azimut Winner at Boat Builder Awards 2024

Azimut has been awarded at the prestigious Boat Builder Awards 2024 in the “Collaborative Solution between a Builder and its Supply Chain Partner” category, together with Volvo Penta.  The award, organized by IBI and METSTRADE, was presented to the winners on Wednesday, 20 November by the jury, which recognized the innovative nature of the technology developed by Volvo Penta and piloted for the first time in collaboration with the R&D Department of the Azimut|Benetti Group.  Through this project, the two companies introduced the first hybrid-electric version of the Volvo Penta IPS Drive on the new Azimut Seadeck 7. The revolutionary hybrid-electric package, installed for the first time on board this yacht, allows her to moor and sail in fully electric mode at speeds of up to 11 knots, smoothly switching between electric and thermal motors without the need for an onboard generator. The Hybrid Boost enables more powerful acceleration, while the energy recovery system allows for regeneration while sailing, and the fast charging mode enables quick battery recharges through the use of thermal engines. During anchorage, the onboard batteries power all onboard services for up to 12 hours, offering an intimate and completely silent experience at sea. The system also facilitates access to zero-emission zones, fully respecting the environment.  Thanks to this new hybrid-electric system and advanced naval architecture, Azimut's Seadeck 7 allows discerning owners to achieve a reduction in emissions of up to 40%, representing the pinnacle of solutions currently available to lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.  “We are honoured to have been recognized with the Boat Builder Awards," said Marco Valle, CEO of Azimut|Benetti Group. "By incorporating the Volvo Penta hybrid-electric package on the Seadeck 7, we are pioneering hybridization in boats of this segment, while enhancing efficiency and ensuring seamless operation in yachting. This innovative solution not only reduces consumption and emissions, but also enhances the onboard experience for our customers. We are proud to be at the forefront of an evolution that will have a positive impact on both our waters and our owners”.  “We are proud to have been recognized together with Azimut in our efforts to drive innovation forward on the path towards decarbonization within the marine industry,” said Johan Inden, President of the Marine Business at Volvo Penta. “Collaborating with like-mind pioneers is an essential aspect of shaping the future boating experience. In this pilot, we are demonstrating a winning combination of unique technology and cutting-edge yacht design – designed to drive efficiency, performance, and elevate the overall experience.”

Azimut-Benetti Group Chairman Wins Entrepreneur of the Year Award

Giovanna Vitelli, Chair of Azimut|Benetti Group, is the National Winner of the twenty-seventh edition of the EY Entrepreneur of the Year® Award. The independent jury, composed of representatives of institutions, economics and industry, awarded the prestigious recognition to Giovanna Vitelli for “not only  directing the company  towards growth in size and profitability, but also for inspiring technological advancements and projects focused on sustainability, employee well-being and corporate social responsibility.” A recipient for the award is selected each year by EY – global leader in professional services for auditing and accounting, tax and legal assistance, transactions, and consulting – among Italian entrepreneurs who have contributed to the economic, social and environmental growth of the country. The winners stand out for their capacity to transform, innovate and promote sustainability, demonstrated in the context of significant challenges and continuous change. After practicing corporate law, Giovanna Vitelli joined the Board of Directors of the family Group Azimut|Benetti in 2000, progressively took the lead in product development, and became Chair in 2023. The Group – the world’s leading manufacturer of mega yachts for twenty-four consecutive years – closed the latest financial year with 1.3 billion euros of revenue, representing a 55% growth over the last four years. In continuity with the mission and values of the Group founded by her father, Giovanna Vitelli identifies the constant investment in innovation as the determining factor in maintaining leadership and generating value for people and the local community. Thus, the product development strategy – consistent with the positioning of both the Azimut and Benetti brands – includes the creation of new trends and onboard lifestyles, as well as technological advancement, trailblazing the way to reducing environmental impact. Since the beginning of her entrepreneurial journey, Giovanna Vitelli has explored new frontiers of nautical design, encouraging technical offices and designers to rethink onboard spaces and offer today’s owners a more contemporary lifestyle, focused on conviviality, elegance, and proximity to the sea. Recent examples of this are Benetti’s Oasis Deck® and Azimut’s Seadeck Series, both of which are top sellers in the market. In this process of evolution, the Group has established itself as Design Hub with many international collaborations, introducing architects and creatives to the sector and thus enriching it with new and innovative influences and solutions. In the field of environmental sustainability, the Group’s strategy combines pragmatism with an ambitious vision offering the best results achieved today in emissions reduction through the development and integration of the most effective solutions available: weight reduction, high-efficiency hulls, hybrid propulsion systems, and onboard power management. At the same time, in collaboration with independent organizations and universities, it promotes the establishment of certification standards for consumption and emissions, in order to guide the industry towards an increasingly conscious and mature approach. In support of the strategy, Chair Giovanna Vitelli has launched a drive to strengthen the managerial culture and governance by also establishing the Azimut|Benetti Group Corporate Academy, aimed at the professional education and growth of the people, with the goal of transferring the expertise that embodies Italian excellence in technology, engineering, and manufacturing within the company, while also supporting young people entering the world of yachting. “I believe that this award represents recognition for the results obtained by the entire Group as we accompany our clients into a new era of yachting and a new way of experiencing the sea,” declared Giovanna Vitelli, Chair of the Azimut|Benetti Group, adding, “As a family company, we have the privilege of looking ahead and creating value over time. Today, this means committing to reducing emissions to make the nautical world more sustainable, which inspires other players in the sector to do the same. But above all, it means continuing to combine the greatest beauty with the most sophisticated technology. My thanks to the 2,250 people who work for Azimut|Benetti Group around the world and who, together with me, continue to chart the course.”

Greenline Slashes Carbon

Greenline Yachts is taking another big step in the direction of responsible yachting by offering on the entire range alternative solutions to the old generator paradigm. The New Responsible Power Pack technology, a sound combination of bigger battery package and alternators, allows lower emissions without any compromise on the way the yachts are used. Among the other benefits al boats will now offer at least 48 hours of silent battery power at anchor or docks. Owners can run the entire house (including aircon full blast) and make the most of their home on the sea without the noise, vibration and smell of a generator. Not to mentions consumptions!  Instead of a generator, Greenline will fit a high-powered alternator that can take power from the engine when it runs to recharge a large lithium battery bank. In this way, the yacht can arrive at its destination with full batteries, ready for days of silent operation at anchor. When energy is used efficiently, the autonomy of the yacht can be extended for days by using solar power to cover hotel loads such as induction cooking and lighting.

Wally Unearths the Innovators of Tomorrow

Wally is reaching out to the next generation of innovators as part of the celebrations to mark its 30th anniversary. The famous Monegasque yachting brand has been offering students the chance to pitch their own ideas as part of an initiative called wallybeacon. Three winning projects have received a cash prize.  The wallybeacon event reached its climax on 18-19 November, when the winners were chosen at an event held on H-FARM Campus. But the process began earlier in the autumn with a call for proposals which attracted over 80 students grouped into 20+ teams from international universities: ARSUTORIA SCHOOL, Università Bocconi, H-FARM College, Istituto Europeo di Design, International University of Monaco and POLI.design.  The challenge set by Wally was to develop an idea that delivered in one of three broad domains: personal goods, innovative living or smart services and experiences. In order to focus students’ thinking, the first category was focused on to footwear, bags and luggage; the second to multifunctional furniture and functional design objects; and the third to digital products, services and “phygital” experiences (the blending of digital and physical).  Once they had formed a team and picked a topic, participants had to come up with their idea, which they submitted to an initial selection process. The 16 teams that were successful at this stage then received support and mentoring from Wally and MAIZE — Designing Futurabilities, a company specialized in strategic design, part of Jakala Group. Each team had two business training sessions to develop their commercial understanding, four mentoring sessions to support the product/service itself and a final session aimed at refining the pitch deck.  Winning required not just a great product but a fantastic presentation in front of a panel of experts. To that end, teams were urged to think hard about who they were targeting and how. As well as conducting a market survey to validate the idea, they were asked to draw up a business model and a start-up roadmap, all taking sustainability into account. Teams were also expected to produce a prototype or a design concept.  Wallybeacon is a project designed to identify the next generation of innovators and teach them how to develop and present an idea professionally. Wally, long recognized as a symbol of innovation and revolution in the yachting market, sees value in passing on the principles that have led to its success and acclaim. At the same time, Wally benefits by building connections with the leaders of tomorrow.

Project: Solaris Power 70 Grand Coupe

Solaris Power presents the 70 Grand Coupe project, as designed by Dragani.  The 70 Grand Coupe is based on the hull lines of the 70 Long Range project which Solaris Power presented the past Spring and is also designed by Dragoni, with the difference between the two yachts is that the 70 Coupe as the name entails has no flybridge.  Other differences is that the aft deck of the 70 Coupe has a sun-pad aft deck, offered in two from three of the layouts available.  The standard Version A and optional Version C are an aft sunpad version, while Version B comes with the opposing settees dinette as found in the 70 Long Range.  For the interior this theme continues as the standard Main Deck Layout A offers a different layout with galley to starboard, and optional Layout B and C having an astern galley to port as found on the flybridge version.  The lower deck in Solaris Power 70 Coupe is a standard four cabins three heads layout, with an optional Cabin Layout B replacing the fourth single berth cabin with a day head by the stairs.  The Solaris Power 70 Coupe is to be powered by twin Volvo 725hp and or optional 1000hp with IPS pod drives.

Unattended Yacht Collides Into Container Ship in Biscayne Bay Miami

A 26 meter super yacht titled m/y Waku collided with a CMA-CGM container ship as this was being towed and tug controlled in Biscayne Bay, Miami on 25 November.  Instagram Seafarer_Obscura posted the video on his channel to what looks a strange accident, for the fact that there seems to be no one on the yacht before and just after the collision.  Waku looks also to be powerless in the video clip, with its anchor fully up and current drifting as it collides bow first into the container ship starboard side, damaging its safety railing with the impact.  With the anchor fully up the first thought on what happened is that the yacht broke free from its mooring, but it is not understood as the video is cut after the collision.  If anyone has  information about this collision please leave a comment below.
M/y Waku is a Cheoy Lee 84 as designed by Tom Fexas and produced in three units in the mid noughties.  The Cheoy Lee 84 came out came as a replacement to the 81 and then evolved in the 88 model.

Project: Absolute 70 Fly

Absolute present the project for the 70 Fly, a new flagship for its Flybridge range which today starts from the 47 Fly model and features a total of five models.  The 70 Fly integrates Absolute latest spirit of innovative design and strong attention to detail, with spacious, light-filled interiors enhanced by panoramic windows that offer breath taking uninterrupted sea views. The 70 Fly is also full of the modern and dynamic exterior lines that Absolute introduced with the 47 Fly in 2019 and has then evolved into the bigger models.  As is with the latest Absolute the 70 Fly offers the spacious and bright outdoor areas, designed for maximum comfort and refinement, include a versatile cockpit terrace with modular furnishings that allow for personalized space arrangements, and a convertible bow sundeck, ideal for moments of absolute freedom on the open sea.  The aft area, featuring an innovative sliding platform, facilitates direct access to the sea while also introducing a higher level of elegance, with soft lighting and dedicated relaxation and entertainment spaces. Sealine New Web Site

Sealine presents its new World wide web showroom.  Sealine was officially started in 1978 although its bases were laid in 1972, as aeronautical engineer Tom Murrant could not find a cabin cruiser he liked, and decided to design and build one himself.  Tom builds the mould for his design and goes to Midland Marine to produce this boat, offering a swap deal, they build it for him and they get the design.  Unfortunately for Tom, Midland Marine was a busy company at the time, and the production for his boat never gets started, it is here that Murrant meets Frank Fish who with Ray Walker and another friend offer him to build the boat in his garage. The result is the 23ft Continental, which gets so much positive remarks, that Tom decides to take five hundred pounds from his life insurance fund, recruit his wife Jane as secretary and set up Fibrasonic in a rented building at Halfpenny Green airfield near Bobbington in Staffordshire to produce the cabin cruiser.  It looks promising but only for a short time as the 1973 to March 1974 Oil Crisis hits the global economy hard in sixth October of that year, doubling resin prices, with the UK government introducing a 25% VAT and a three day week.  But Fibrasconic survives this period which really last five years by branching into industrial moulding, producing items for the British Rail, road signs, Toby Jugs, and sub-contracting other boat builds for Sunliner and Scorpio.  In 1978 the Oil Crisis is over and Tom restarts his boat building bug with the design and build the 19 Weekender, and in just six weeks completes it, with this followed by the 22 Sport and 22 Cabin in the same year.  These three boats debut to the public at the 1978 Southampton boat, under the C-Line name meaning really Cruiser Line, and in the same year Murrant moves to Kidderminster, the site of bankrupt boat builder Dawncraft.  In the end of 1979, the C-Line name was changed to Sealine.  From the beginning Sealine distinct itself for offering gelcoat color options in blue, orange or yellow, but also for presenting a clever volume focused design giving more space to the foot.  The eighties are full of expansion for Sealine and in 1984 it presents the new 30 Statesman flagship.  The size keeps on growing with the 365 Sportsbridge coming in 1988, and the 450 Statesman in 1992, and then into yacht fifty feet plus in 1999 with the T51.  By the end of the eighties decade Sealine also enters the US market, and in 1998 is sold to a Venture Capitalist firm headed by Gerard Wainright.  The Wainright ownership last three years as in 2001 Sealine is sold to one of the largest pleasure marine industry corporations as USA Brunswick takes over the British boat builder for a reported 68 million US$.  The Brunswick period is followed by investment and expansion as Sealine also launches its largest model to date with the T60 in 2004.  Brunswick will sell Sealine in 2011 to Oxford Investment Group.  The Oxford period is dark for Sealine as it will declare bankruptcy a year later, and in 2013 is bought by current owners Hanse Group.  Hanse Group will only buy the brand and some of the tooling as it moves production to Greifswald Germany.  Sealine currently offers three series of boats; C for Coupe, S for Sport, and F for Flybridge for a total of nine models which starts at 33 feet with the C335 and and goes up to the F430 flagship.  Sealine latest new models is the S335 launched in 2022.  Sealine's new website takes you around with the following buttons; Motorboats, Sealine Legend, Magazine, Events, Dealers, Services, Contact Us, and Configure Now.  Sealine is also on social media with right bottom page buttons taking you to its Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and Linkedin pages.

New Model: Benetti Class 44M

Benetti has launched the first unit of its new Class 44M launched in Viareggio, revealing the design work of Giorgio M. Cassetta, who showed an informal, natural settings four decks super yacht which recall the brand’s heritage. Launched in Viareggio and titled M/Y Juno’s 7 the first Class 44M unit was entirely designed entirely by Cassetta who also handled the interiors and the decor in partnership with the Benetti Shipyard’s architects. The designer has defined the yacht as “relaxing”, in line with the aim of the project that, from the outset, was to create informal settings that aren’t overly artificial or sophisticated, where the owner and guests can enjoy the ultimate in relaxation and comfort. These ambiances have been achieved thanks to the skilful use of large transparent surfaces, such as the mirrors on the hull sides in the main lounge that reflect the light and the water, making the spaces even brighter. There was also a special focus on the selection of the materials. One of the standouts are trowelled resin, chosen for the bathroom surfaces instead of marble, which is used exclusively on the main deck for the basins in the owner’s bathroom and the day-head. The varieties of FSC-certified wood used are the result of an in-depth study: antique elm, used for the interior flooring on all decks, preserves the natural knots in the wood and the planks have different widths and lengths to take advantage of every part of the tree. The choice for the walls, on the other hand, is striped ash selected with great care to obtain the ideal pattern for this yacht.  M/Y Juno’s 7 is the ideal yacht for safe, long cruises thanks to a layout meticulously studied to ensure maximum privacy and plenty of storage space. The Benetti Class 44M has four decks: the main deck is home to the owner’s cabin, the galley, the day-head and a spacious lounge with direct views of the water on both sides; the upper deck, in addition to the helm station and the generous interior living space that extends outdoors in the stern, offers an extra VIP cabin as an option; the sun deck provides over 102 square metres of deck space, while the lower deck contains the four guest cabins and the crew area. The beach club designed at the water’s edge becomes an independent, versatile and striking space, while the garage has been positioned along the port side. The level of soundproofing puts this 44-metre yacht at the top of the category, thanks to floating floors and bulkheads and flexible transmission couplings based on state-of-the-art technology, while the air-conditioning and treatment system ensures high-efficiency air circulation with six changes per hour. The Benetti Class 44M is powered by twin MAN 1400hp for a top speed of fifteen knots and a range of 4,100 nautical miles at a cruising speed of eleven knots.

During the 2024 Fort Lauderdale boat show Maiora revealed some details of the latest project with the presentation for the upcoming Exuma 36. Designed by Quartostile for exteriors and Acube for interiors, the Maiora 36 Exuma project is an evolution of the multi-award winning 35 Exuma which debuted in 2020 and redefined the concept of versatility by blending together the looks and lines of traditional raised pilot house super yachts into those of more volume focused explorer style yachts.  An innovative design concept which received positive market response as Maiora has delivered four units in less to three years of the outgoing 35 Exuma model.  Now Maiora's parent company Next Group and designer Quartostile evolve this design to feature more, adding space especially on the upper deck which now uses nearly all the yacht length, but also for offering a cleaner horizontal yacht.  The Maiora 36 Exuma will offer a ten guest suites layout with an owners stateroom forward of the upper deck, and four guest suites below including of which is a very spacious VIP suite to starboard.  Crew accommodation is for five located forward of the lower deck, and also featuring a lobby with dinette and a second galley.  The Maiora 36 Exuma is powered by triple Man 2000hp with triple jet propulsion for top speeds up to 32 knots.

The Palm Beach GT70 is to be powered by twin 1000hp Volvo with IPS pod propulsion sit aft of the single fuel tank, optimizing balance and performance. Below decks, every GT70 offers an oasis of luxurious comfort in three exquisite staterooms, including a full-beam master suite located amidships rivalling larger yachts. The thoughtfully designed galley-down layout allows for an expansive salon area for relaxing, entertaining and dining with friends and family. The helm design and fit-out are reminders that the GT70 is designed for high-performance cruising, featuring double helm seats on both the port and starboard sides, an unobstructed line of sight through the massive single-piece windshield, and side opening windows.

New Launch: Cantiere Delle Marche One-Off 43

Cantiere delle Marche have in July 2024 launched the fully custom One-off 43. Called Project B2 during construction, One-Off 43 has the characteristics of a purebred explorer yacht and is the third fully custom construction from Cantiere delle Marche following Crowbridge in 2022 and Audace in 2019. Her exterior lines by Francesco Paszkowski boast an elegant, awe-inspiring beauty, with the right equilibrium between comfortable interior living spaces and the build and technical reliability to take on the seas, and the confidence to sail head-on into remote destinations. An imposing explorer yacht, One-Off 43 strikes a distinctive pose as Paszkowski designed grand exterior deck spaces so guests can relax in a number of outdoor spots designed to offer maximum privacy while creating the feeling of openness and uninterrupted living spaces. Her bright interiors also designed by Paszkowski exude a refined elegance, combining sophistication with an inviting, unpretentious atmosphere. On the main deck, thanks to a wide body configuration from midship forward, four large suites, almost identical in size and features, are at guests’ disposal. Two more guest cabins are located on the Lower deck amidships. Eight crew members benefit from very large and well-appointed quarters on the lower deck forward. The Captain’s cabin is located on the Upper deck next to the wheelhouse. Tender and jet-skis are stored on the Upper deck forward while a chase boat is at owners’ and guest disposal for coastal exploration and comfortable transfers from the yacht ashore and vice versa. To further enhance guests’ comfort, a large beach club with sauna and hammam is located to the far aft of the lower deck, next to the large swim platform, where there is also a day head. With a robust and overengineered displacement steel hull and light aluminium superstructure, Cantiere delle Marche One-Off 43 has a displacement of around 440t. Her naval architecture which ensures excellent seakeeping and frugal fuel consumption, has been designed by Hydro Tec. Twin Caterpillar 1000hp and a 60000-litre fuel tanks allow a top speed of 14 knots and a range above 5000nm at 10 knots; this means she is able to sail far and wide with no need to stop for refuelling.
