Moonen New Web Site

Moonen Yachts from the Netherlands presents its new virtual World wide web showroom. Moonen was founded in 1963 at the Dutch town of Den Bosch first under the name of De Ruiter shipyard. In 1981 following new ownership entrance by Alhena, it is renamed to Moonen. In 1985 Moonen builds is first super yacht above 24 meters with the launch of 26 meter Cassiopeia S, and in 1992 the company follows more into this by launching a semi-custom design platform of 24 meter in size. The steel and aluminium semi-custom line is a success for Moonen, creating over the years quite a few recognizable designs in the 24 to 30 meter size. Still the semi-custom platform does not stop Moonen from building fully custom larger boats and the launch of 37m White Heaven III in 1998 is a testament to this what will be its larger super yacht for quite some time, superseded by the 38 meter Snowhite in 2009, and then by 41 meters Sofia in 2014 its largest build to date. Moonen has also in 2009 opened its second facility in Groot-Ammers some fifty kilometres away from the original home factory. The new facility has increased Moonen building size capability up to 50 meters from 35, thanks to a new larger hall. Moonen currently offers two lines; Semi-Custom, and Full-Custom. The Semi-Custom range offers six models and starts with the 30M Matica, and expands up to the 50M Monito. Currently Moonen has two super yachts in nearly completed state; a 36m Martinque and the new 110. Moonen new website takes you around with the following buttons; Available Yachts, Portfolio, Fleet, Pre-Owned, About, Media, Contact, and Careers. Moonen is also present in social media with bottom buttons taking you to its; Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, and Twitter pages.

Project: Sunseeker Superhawk 55

Sunseeker went all guns blazing during the Cannes 2021 boat show, presenting four new models and three upcoming projects for 2022, and announcing the return of the Superhawk name since the demise of the 43 model around 2012 with this new 55 project.  With Andrea Frabetti at the helm great things are coming from the Poole based builder, and now his work is turning full circle.  The Superhawk 55 is a sixteen meter with a beam of just under five meters sport yacht, offering a spacious main deck layout with central sun-pad, and a nice central wet bar behind the centre console type helm station.  Of note is that half of the exterior is covered by an overhang, side opened hard-top, and another important detail is that the aft part from the radar arch to the stern makes also full use of the beam.  Down below the Superhawk 55 also offers nice spaces with a standard two cabins layout; owners room at midships, and guest forward, and an option for a third in replacement to the lower deck saloon to starboard.  A galley is also located below to port side in between the cabins.  Performance wise the Sunseeker Superhawk 55 will be powered by twin Volvo 725hp with IPS pod drives and speeds up to 38 knots.   The Superhawk 55 is an innovative project to come from Sunseeker, with some brilliant ideas on the main deck giving the feel of a large centre console and when launched should be one of the most good looking sport yachts in its size.  My only gripe is that with the near to five meter beam and performance numbers it is difficult to picture this model in the Hawk-Superhawk line-up, but more about this in an upcoming blogger.

Hatteras Yacht Partially Sinks in Middle Bass Island

Heavy winds hindered and grounded a seventy five feet Hatteras motor yacht on Middle Bass Island on Lake Erie on the morning of twelfth September.  The cause of the accident are unknown but reports are claiming that the yacht lost its power and ended grounded and with this doing damage to the hull bottom beneath the engine room.  Unfortunately the yacht has also discharged some oil pollution from its fuel vents.  The owner was assisted by the Marine Coast Guard Safety of Detroit, Toledo section.  The Hatteras yacht was salvaged on 17 September.
The yacht in this accident is a Hatteras 75 Cockpit Motor Yacht as produced from 2000 till 2003.  The Hatteras 75 Cockpit Motor Yacht, also known as the 75 Series for its two variants, the other being the Sports Deck version without the lowered aft cockpit deck, also had four different lower deck layout arrangement choices.

Project: Baglietto 40m Panam

With this project Gavio Group seems to have an identity crisis, as this listed in both Cerri CCN and Baglietto website under construction, although to be fair the yacht more looks like the later then the former, with the stern and raised pilot house all shouting out to the winged brand.  Announced as a project in Cerri's website Panam was the fifth Fuoriserie super yacht, that is before it got rebranded as Baglietto.  Baglietto 40m Panam comes from a design by Francesco Paszkowski, who took care of both exteriors and interiors, the latter in cooperation with Margherita Casprini.  Sleek and aggressive, this Baglietto stands out for her impressive performances, ensured by the aluminium alloy hull and three 2600hp MTU engines and three KaMeWa water-jet engines, which push her up to a maximum speed of 31 knots and a pleasant cruising speed of 25. All technical components, the mast and the roll bar are in carbon fibre, so as to reduce overall weight.  The straight bow endows this yacht with a a modern, dynamic and powerful look, further enhanced by the large irregular-shape windows that let plenty of natural light into the interior saloon.  The layout features a large salon on the main deck, separate from the dining area thanks to a “green” wall. Forward, the full-beam master suite is fitted with a walk-in wardrobe and a bathroom with hammam. Two folding balconies open up on the sides.  Four guest cabins are located on the lower bridge, which also hosts the professional galley. On this same deck, forward, are the captain’s cabin, 2 double cabins, the laundry and the crew mess. Behind the engine room is the semi-float-in garage storing a 17’ tender, while a pleasant beach area can be enjoyed aft, open on three sides and fitted with a beach platform transformer granting very easy access to the sea.  The fly bridge features a large aft custom-made pool with counter current swimming system, while a sunbathing area can be found at the bow.

New Model: Benetti Motopanfilo 37M

On 29 July in Viareggio the ceremony for the launch of the first unit of the Benetti Motopanfilo 37M, whose elegant lines evoke memories of the finest nautical traditions with a contemporary twist to meet the needs of modern owners. Inspired by the Benetti “navette” from the ‘60s, the Motopanfilo 37M was conceived as a shell, reinterpreting those iconic, glamorous features and incorporating them into a timeless design across the yacht’s four decks. Lazzarini Pickering Architects designed the interiors and Francesco Struglia, in collaboration with Benetti, signed the elegant exterior lines.  Down by the sea, the transom nods to the iconic models of the Sixties in the form of a beach club allows easy access to the water. The central face of the transom, sharply inclined downwards, opens up to reveal a bathing platform surprisingly ample for a 37-meter. On the Main Deck, the tradition of wood and its enduring links with the sea have not been overlooked. In the saloon, modern-style glazed surfaces and gently curved ceilings amplify natural light thanks to the extensive use of warm wood and light colours for the floors. Towards the stern, the ceilings take on a double-curved effect, a testament to the shipyard’s excellence in craftsmanship. The owner’s suite is located toward the bow of the main deck, carrying the captivating design forward. On the Lower Deck, the respect for the innate character of each environment can be seen in the choice not to straighten the cabin walls, allowing them to follow the gentle, relaxed curve of the hull. The ubiquitous rib structure appears here with an inversion of colours and materials compared to the Main Deck. The four comfortable guest cabins amidships accommodate double beds and toward the bow, in a separate area, three cabins are dedicated to the six crew members. From the lobby, a spiral staircase winds around the central mast that rises through two decks as it accompanies guests to the sky lounge on the upper deck. The aft part of the Upper Deck is designed for convivial moments in the open air, with areas for relaxation, conversation and sunbathing. The captain’s cabin is adjacent to the wheelhouse, and on the exterior towards the bow, guests are welcomed by a Jacuzzi and sunbeds. The Observation Deck, once carved out around the main mast but on the new Motopanfilo 37M positioned above the hard top, provides a sheltered nook in the sky, absolutely intimate with a special view. The displacement hull, designed by P.L.A.N.A. PierLuigi Ausonio Naval Architecture, ensures smooth navigation and maximum comfort while onboard. The Motopanfilo 37M is powered by twin Man 1400hp  as standard or 1650hp optional units, giving maximum speeds of 16 or 18 knots respectively, with a range of 3,800 nautical miles at the 10-knot cruising speed.

Flybridge Cruiser Ends Aground in Les Ecrehous Jersey

A nine meter Beneteau flybridge cruiser titled m/y Orianna ended aground and atop of the Ecrehous reef in Les Ecrehous, Jersey Island, to the South of the English Channel before 11:00 hours of the morning of Friday tenth September 2021.  RNLI Jersey Coast Guard safety vessels from St. Catherine and St. Helier sped to the scene, picking the crew who in the meantime where rescued by Seafaris, who was doing its daily patrol in the area.  The crew suffered minor injuries from the impact and where taken to the Jersey main land for assessment.  Later in the day with the tide going down the Beneteau flybridge cruiser became a social media sensation, as it set at about four meters above sea water level, even though the boat was never in danger of falling over as the below photo might make you think.  With high tide coming in the following day, the Beneteau motor cruiser was recovered and taken to Gorey Harbour for repairs.
The Beneteau flybridge cruiser in this grounding is an Antares 9 as designed by Andre Beneteau and was produced from 2003 to 2008.  The Antares 9 was as a replacement to the 9.05, and was replaced by the Sarazin designed 30 Antares in 2009.

Project: ISA Yachts 80 Continental

ISA Yachts, a brand of Palumbo Superyachts, leader in the construction and sale of custom and semi custom superyachts, confirms that the construction of the steel hulled Continental 80 is progressing smoothly on schedule.  The interior fitting is expected to start in January 2022 with a potential delivery to the Owner in early 2024.  Enrico Gobbi of Team for Design penned the exterior lines, while the naval architecture is by Palumbo Superyachts.  The construction is an ‘on spec’ project started and financed by ISA Yachts to reduce delivery times and offer a well-established naval platform adjustable between 70 and 80 meters of length.  The ISA brand has always been synonym for excellence and quality and the 35 superyachts, between 30 and 66 metres delivered from 2002 to date, actually prove it. Project ISA Continental 80 is a very architectural yacht with well balanced volumes and ‘streamlined’ lines. Its exterior design is highlighted by squared and rigorous windows for incredible panoramic views from all the main indoor areas.  A distinctive detail is given by the terraces in the central section of the boat; in particular, the one on the Upper Deck looks like a real balcony and lets more light flood the salon.  Other strategic areas are just as brightly lit, like the gym in the Sky-lounge and the salons on the Upper and Main Deck. Another emblematic feature of this yacht is the stern infinity pool. Its rectangular shape spans the beam of the deck and stands out for its aft wall formed by 2 glass sheets with water cascading between them.  So arranged, the swimming pool leaves ample room for large sunpads and lounging, transforming this portion of the Main Deck into an extension of the actual beach area to which is connected by a flight of stairs. The Upper Deck can be considered a proper owner’s deck with lounge and living areas astern and the master suite forward. Equipped also with touch-and-go landing, the yacht ensures direct access to the owner’s quarters for maximum privacy.  The interiors will be designed by Luca Dini will have seven cabins accommodating up to twelve passengers assisted by nineteen crew members housed in ten cabins. 80 Continental is to be powered by twin MTU 3003hp engines reaching a seventeen knots maximum speed and a twelve knot cruise speed with a range of 6200 nautical miles.

Flybridge Cruiser Partially Sinks Near Venice

A flybridge cruiser of about fourteen meters in length was found partially sank in the morning of nine September in Coarle, Darsena dell' Orologio which translated to English means the Quay of the Watch.  The flybridge cruiser was floated again on the morning of September 11, and according to unconfirmed reports the boat sank for a failure to a raw water tube, which takes water to the engine sea-water pump. Darsena dell'Orologio is located further North East from Venice, and is a marina which offers just short of five hundred berths.
The flybridge cruiser in this accident is a Solcio Biondi 44 Fly as designed by Dall' Abaco and  produced from 1989 till the mid nineties.  The Solcio Biondi 44 first released as Open and then as Fly, with a success of about thirty units being built in total, with the Fly being the more popular of the two versions.  Norway's Fjord dealer Solcio collaborated with the Biondi boat yard to offer a thirteen meter cruiser.

New Model: Beneteau Gran Turismo 41

The new Beneteau Gran Turismo 41 has been a successful evolution which first appeared with the Monte Carlo 37 in 2007, as the old saying says you do not change a winning horse. With this model helped by Italian designed Andreani the Beneteau motor boating section starting to have success in a size type market usually dominated by British and Italian production boat builders.  The Monte Carlo 37, became the Gran Turismo 38, then 40, and now fourteen years later into this new 41, with each evolution keeping on with the success of the previous.  If you look at the new Gran Turismo 41 layout one sees that very little has changed inside from the Monte Carlo 37, the Gran Turismo 41 evolving outside in looks and in the cockpit layout, here offering more space and becoming better with each new version.

A collision between a new Ecoline Sport Cruiser of eight meters in length and a Van der Valk of sixteen meters happened at the Cannes boat show on the afternoon of seven September, thankfully with no consequences onboard to both the persons of the eight meter sport cruiser and the sixteen meter sport yacht.  Big shock onboard the smaller sport cruiser who had three persons onboard and got most of the damage, being hit astern. Apart cosmetic and structural damage, the Ecolux sport cruiser also damaged its hybrid module and had to cancel the boat show.  The Van der Valk had small cosmetic damage to its bow area.

Classic Super Yacht Collides into Rock

A classic super yacht of 26 meters in size collided on the island of Proti at 03:00 early morning time of seven September.  With only the four crew onboard, no injuries are reported to this terrific accident, beside the yacht which received extensive damage to its bow.  Some reports are claiming the yacht was cruising at about twelve knots.  The island of Proti is one of the further Southern located of the Greek Ionian islands.  The yacht was miraculously saved from sinking and taken further South to Pilos, made possible thanks to a very good water tight forward bulkhead I add.
This classic yacht is an Alalunga 26 mt as designed by Aldo Cichero and build in the early eighties.  The Alalunga 26 is a further development of the 24 model released in 1973, which then developed to the 25 in the mid seventies.  The 26 is recognizable by the more rounded forward windshield, and no circle shaped port-holes on the topside.
Alalunga where build by Cantieri Navali Santa Margherita, founded by Mario Spertini in 1961, and is renowned for the seaworthiness and nice lines of its yachts, build of wood up until the mid nineties.  Eventually Alalunga entered fiberglass building in the mid nineties, and was renamed as Spertini Alalunga, while the Santa Marina yachts which still build of wood and steel was sold to Cantieri Diano.  Currently the yard is closed, but this name which has its roots in Lavagna, to the South of Genova's Levante coast is an important historical Italian name which gave shape and school of design to the modern motor yacht.

Super Yacht Burns then Sinks in Olbia Yacht Marina

A 35 meter super yacht m/y Siempre went ablaze and eventually sank on 0130 of the night morning of sixth September while in its berth at the Marina di Olbia, Sardinia.  The super yacht had four crew onboard at the time, which where saved and unharmed.  The fire which is reported to have started on deck spread very fast, and took two fire fighting squads about three hours to extinguish.  Siempre eventually capsized and sank, and now leaves the environmental hurdle this type of accident brings.
M/y Siempre is a Tansu 35.2 meter Tigershark Class as designed by Riza Tanus and build in 2010 in Turkey, with a steel hull and aluminium super structure.  Siempre was launched as Ceylan, then renamed to Obo and last refitted in 2020.  Tansu shipyard started operating in 1998 inspired by Pacific Northwest trawler explorer yachts, it entered yacht building in 2001 with the 26 meter Seaton Class super yacht.

Project: Vicem 65 Classic

With three hulls already under construction, Turkish yacht builder Vicem Yachts is proud to announce the project of the restyled and re-engineered 65 Classic. To guarantee owners even more flexibility, the manufacturer will offer the yacht in either their traditional cold-molded construction, or mirroring other recent successes like the 50 Classic also in fiberglass. The advantage of the latter, among other things, is a faster delivery time for owners. Currently Vicem have three 65 Classic models under construction, with two fiberglass and one cold-molded hull in build. Vicem Yachts is well-known as one of the leading cold-molded wooden yacht builders in the world, but the company is equally accomplished at composite fiberglass construction. Fiberglass builds provide Vicem quicker turnarounds as well as easier maintenance, giving the customizable 65-footer a unique combination of style, value, performance and durability. The 65 Classic is also offered with two drivetrain choices, Volvo IPS or traditional line shaft providing the yacht a proven propulsion to achieve around a 23-knot cruising speed and top speeds exceeding 28 knots. Because the engine room is set aft under the cockpit, either installation provides the builder maximum flexibility on interior accommodations. Additionally, the engine room placement allows for significantly reduced engine noise to the accommodations deck. The new 65 Classic has a completely reworked interior whose showstopper is an optional full-beam, mid-ship master stateroom located just under the saloon. In the standard three-cabin configuration, the galley and accommodations live on the lower deck, allowing spacious seating options on the salon and through to the aft deck. Vicem took the opportunity while reworking the 65 Classic’s original design a downeast express-style yacht with high freeboard and traditional lines, this to increase the size of the already large light-gathering windows and portlights, particularly off the front and sides of the saloon. The former greatly improves the visibility from the helm while the latter provides natural light to all living areas of the boat. Custom and Series Builder Connection

Custom sportfish yachts and cruisers builders have been a success in the last two decades, not only growing in size and building bigger yachts, but also in order book, with these custom shops having a two year plus waiting list for a new build.  Today custom builders have a good share of sportfish yacht sales, most of which sell in the largest yacht market in the World of the East coast of the USA.

Seeing this success it is a surprise how the design and expertise of custom sportfish yacht stays in that realm, and is never teased up by the production builder.  In Italy compared to USA a custom designer would over the years enter into production yacht building.  Zuccon started with Baglietto and after some years went with Posillipo and then in 1990 joined Ferretti.  Righini started with Falcon and Overmarine Mangusta and then joined Azimut in 1993.

There is sometimes a couple exception to this rule.  For those with a good memory might remember the last Ferretti Group Bertram stint in 2013, when the company gave custom sportfish yacht specialist Robert Ullberg designer and product development duties which resulted in the fall of that same year for the 60 project. Things turned out differently for Bertram in 2015 with Gavio Group purchasing the brand and the 60 remaining a project and a design.  Robert Ullberg has designed most of Paul Mann and Bayliss custom builds, and is one of the most recognized and appreciated designers for Sportfish yachts.  Another production build coming from a custom designer was the Ocean Yachts 64 Makaira launched in 2014, which was designed by Steve French Applied Dynamics, known for his work for FandS. Unlike the Bertram 60, the 64 Makaira was produced though, made in the wrong time as a couple years later due to financial difficulty the business was sold.  The model though is still available from the current ownership.

Year is 2020 and finally we have a new custom-production collaboration from Albermarle, who for its new sixteen meter flagship, join collaboration with renowned Carolina custom builder Spencer.  The new Albermarle 53 Spencer Edition is the largest build by the production boat builder who never went beyond to the 410 flagship model.  Unlike the Bertram 60 the Albermarle 53 Spencer Edition is going to happen with the model currently being in advanced stages of construction.  It will be interesting if following this we will see more Custom-Production collaboration, all depending on the success of the 53 Spencer Edition.

Ferretti Gift of Time Short Film

Spending time with the people we love, waiting for night to fall to admire the stars, finding the positive side of every situation, growing and being amazed by the little things: in a fast-paced world that has accustomed us to the frenzy of the moment, some things still need time. “The gift of time” is the short film directed by William9 to present the new Ferretti Yachts 1000, through the words of the famous poem “I wish you time” by Elli Michler.  It is a story about the Italian way of life, about conviviality and love, but most importantly about the importance of knowing how to savour every moment. Three generations are reunited on board the yacht to celebrate the most precious gift that life can offer: time. The soundtrack “Il Mondo”, written by Jimmy Fontana and performed by Alessandro Ristori - accompanies exquisitely Italian imagery, where life is a continuous succession of love stories and emotions.  Ferretti Yachts 1000, the largest flybridge model ever built by the brand, was born in time to be timeless, just like moments of life on board, which are transformed into indelible memories.  “This film celebrates time, one of our most precious gifts and for yachting enthusiasts a key indicator of happiness, because more time means more destinations, more swimming and more sunsets. I agree with Seneca, who two thousand years ago proposed severe punishments for anyone who stole even just an hour of our time,” commented Ferretti Group CEO Alberto Galassi. “Our majestic flagship Ferretti Yachts 100 is an invitation for you and your loved ones to make the most of the gift of time, on a boat where every space and detail are designed to maximise the pleasure of living on the water in the utmost comfort. It is a boat with the wonderful sense of hospitality that comes naturally to us Italians, and the song ‘Il Mondo’, which provides the film with its soundtrack, pays tribute to our unique and inimitable way of life.”  Working with us on this great project were some exclusive partners: Dolce&Gabbana, Galleria Tornabuoni and Pisa Orologeria. Three brands that, like Ferretti Yachts, bring excellence to the world.  The film was given its premiere at the Belmond Hotel Cipriani in Venice and is now available on Ferretti Yachts and Ferretti Group social media channels.  Based on a concept by communication agency Undesign, the film was produced by Sedici:9 and LMC Vision.  Cast members: Angelica Cacciapaglia, Alisa Moldovan, Luca Corradi, Marta Riello, Renato Fornasari, Tommaso De Bellis, Sofia Barbieri and Stefan Bohuky.

Horizon Completes $15 million Yards Expansion

Since its establishment nearly 35 years ago, Horizon Yachts has continuously invested in its facilities and equipment to maintain and further its position as one of the world’s largest and leading yacht builders. The latest infrastructure investment comes in the form of a brand new 9,917sqm production facility constructed on the Horizon grounds in a space formerly used for mold storage.  This new space can now accommodate seven yachts up to 120 feet in length and improves production capacity significantly, allowing the group to deliver 20 to 25 new builds per year.    The expansion is the result of a two-year planning process with an overall focus on production efficiency throughout and to this effect includes the re-designation of existing workspaces and an efficient horizontal production queue. The hull production division of Group subsidiary Atech Composites division has also been relocated to the main yard to streamline the manufacturing process of each hull. Now, each critical stage of construction, from hull production to boat assembly and the final testing will be carried out in the same vicinity.   In addition to the new facility, which officially began operations in February 2021, construction is currently underway on a materials warehouse and a brand-new office building designed to house the factory management department. The new building is expected to be completed in early 2022.

Today, Lars Windhorst, founder and owner of the Tennor Group, takes over the renowned superyacht shipyard Nobiskrug in Rendsburg, Germany.  In the future, Nobiskrug and Flensburger Schiffbau-Gesellschaft, already part of the Tennor group will work under an integrated management and joined administration while operating from their proven locations. Therefore the skills of the specialist for merchant and naval vessels from FSG will be bundled with the know-how of the superyacht builders from Nobiskrug. A symbolic keel-laying plate with a traditional coin documents this important day in the shipyard’s history.  The two shipyards are ideally connected geographically as well, with a travel time of less than an hour, thus enabling a close cooperation.  The continuation of in-depth training currently sixteen young people are apprenticed in seven different professions at Nobiskrug – is also a major concern for him, he said. Over the past two decades Nobiskrug has developed and built unique superyachts.  The shipyard with its excellent facilities, is the ideal place for building high qualitative superyacht projects. Both companies will ensure that the world-renowned shipyards in Flensburg and Rendsburg will continue to stand for innovative, sophisticated and efficient shipbuilding of the future.

Viking Mullica Expansion Update

The tremendous success of Valhalla Boatworks (VBW) has prompted the need for more space at its dedicated manufacturing facility; Viking Mullica. Our sister company is crushing it, with sales exceeding 300 boats since the first three V Series models (V-33, V-37 and V-41) were announced at the Viking VIP Preview in February 2019. With the addition of the Valhalla 46 to the fleet last summer, production of Vikings from 38 to 46 feet was moved to New Gretna and a two-phase expansion at Viking Mullica was set into motion. The two projects will add a combined 16,000 square feet to Viking Mullica’s 88,000 manufacturing footprint, increasing boatbuilding efficiency, capacity and output.  Phase I is moving along right on schedule with the completion this month of a 6,000-square-foot structure that physically connects Buildings 2 and 3, creating one contiguous manufacturing area. The images below show the addition’s steady progress throughout recent months.  “This first phase, which we refer to as an ‘Infill,’ is an expansion of our hull, stringer and egg crate area,” says Viking Mullica General Manager John Leek IV. “The additional square footage will allow us to better organize the manufacturing space for increased efficiency.” In addition to providing more production capacity for the resin-infused stringer grids for each of the four Valhalla models, the area will also be used for transom bustles and fishboxes.  Mullica is located on six acres in the Pinelands of New Jersey, just 11 miles from the mothership in New Gretna. More space and better organization will improve workflow, which in turn helps Viking Mullica’s 200-plus-strong team of shipwrights build a better boat every day. A portion of the extra real estate increases the size of the egg crate area to prep and install fuel tanks (as shown above), internal bulkheads and other components after each hull is pulled from its mold. The existing overhead crane system was extended into the new area, further facilitating the space’s flexibility and utility.  Phase II will soon commence with utility and site preparation. It will extend the backside of Building 1, adding 10,000 square feet of space consisting of 6,000 square feet on the ground level and a mezzanine of 4,000 square feet. "This addition will give us the space we need to produce certain fiberglass parts (hatch lids and doors) that are built in New Gretna utilizing Light Resin Transfer Molding." Phase II is scheduled to be completed next summer.  An evolution of Viking excellence, Valhalla Boatworks pushes center console quality, luxury, performance and fishability to unprecedented levels.

Viking Expand Dealership

The Viking Yacht Company is pleased to announce that Valhalla Boatworks and Viking Yachts have expanded their dealer network to Bermuda with the addition of PW Marine, owned and operated by The Waterfront Group, a renowned six-generation family business dedicated to the archipelago’s boating, fishing and leisure lifestyle.  “We are delighted to represent the Viking Yacht Company and Valhalla Boatworks in Bermuda,” said William Cox, President of The Waterfront Group. “To be associated with Viking and the Healey family is an honor that represents the values of quality that our families share.” “This was a perfect partnership just waiting to happen,” said Viking President and CEO Pat Healey, above with William. “When it comes to Bermuda, the Cox family has everything boat owners could ever want.”  PW Marine will offer the entire lineup of the Valhalla Boatworks V Series, which consists of four high-performance luxury center consoles ( the V-33, V-37, V-41 and V-46). “We’re also very excited about the potential for our Viking Billfish Series in the Bermuda market,” says Pat. The Billfish fleet consists of the 38 BF (shown above), 38 BF Open and 46 Billfish. “This partnership expands our global distribution into an area that’s truly ideal for both our Valhalla center consoles and Billfish sportfishing boats.” PW Marine also operates The Waterfront Marina, which offers boat owners convenient access to the island’s most central and prestigious full-service docking facilities. The marina is no stranger to Vikings, and recently provided a berth for Krazy Salt’s, the Viking 80 that won the 2021 Bermuda Big Game Classic and Stone Harbor Marlin Invitational.

Viking at Thirtieth Annual Mid Atlantic

The Viking fleet rose to the occasion at the 30th Annual Mid-Atlantic. There was a Viking on practically every leader board, and not only did the Viking 80 win Most Points Overall and Most Points White Marlin but Pipe Dreamer and The Right Place swept the Heaviest Tuna division.  Larry Hesse’s Viking 70 Goin’ In Deep got the party started on Day 1. Captain Walt Harmstead was the first boat to check into the weigh station with a 681-pound blue marlin reeled in by Mike Cassidy. That blue stayed on the leaderboard for the five-day event, claiming 3rd Place.  Captain Andrew Dotterweich was behind the wheel of Todd Willard’s Viking 48 Fish On when angler Josh Jasper hooked up with a white marlin. That fish weighed 75 pounds and claimed 3rd Place.  Our Viking 80 demo layed Day 1, but Captain Sean Dooley turned the cockpit into a mosh pit on Day 2. The reels were screaming as the team released a triple-header shortly after lines in. The furious action continued and the team executed perfectly, ending the day with 16 white flags flying. They added five more to the tally to take the Most Points White Marlin honors as well as the Most Point Overall title.  The Heaviest Tuna division saw dozens of big eyes and yellowfin weighed but Chip Caruso’s Viking 70 Pipe Dreamer dominated the leaderboard. Captain Bryan Boyle put Chip and Andy Confortino on big eyes of 235 and 227 pounds to take 1st and 2nd Places. Bob Hugin aboard his Viking 62 The Right Place finished in 3rd Place with a 188-pounder. The Right Place, with captain Evan Millas at the wheel, cranked in eight tuna for a record of 626 points and 1st Place. Pipe Dreamer was 2nd Place with 231 points.  Shon Craig’s Viking 80 Amarula Sun shook up the final day when captain Dan Veid brought in Gerry Imparato’s 1st Place Heaviest Dolphin at 45 pounds. Ken Hager’s Viking 50 Taylor Jean also took part in “Moving Day”, with Robert Wagner showing up with a 36-pounder at the docks good for 2nd Place.  Amarula Sun’s 57-pound wahoo caught by Gerry Imparato on Day 3 stayed on the board and finished in 2nd Place.

Viking at White Marlin Open

A $9.2 million purse was plenty of motivation for the 444 boats that fished the White Marlin Open based out of Ocean City, Maryland.
