Project: Dale 40 Aft Cockpit

So after the positive reviews of the recently launched Dale 40 Aft Cabin by TT Design, the British builder and design firm follow it with a project for the Aft Cockpit version.  Important changes between the two boats, from having one helm instead of two, and losing the spacious master aft cabin of the Aft Cabin version.  Still you do gain a very sweet and conservative line with the 40 Aft Cockpit version which does never look old, and for this you get a spacious just above sea level aft cockpit entertainment area.  The Dale 40 can be powered from twin 300 up to 600hp engines and reach top speeds up to 29 knots with the largest of engine options.

Super Yacht Collision in South East Italy

A 41 meter super yacht titled m/y Blue Magic collided and then sank a seven meter fiberglass build sailing boat during its marina manoeuvring in Santa Marina di Leuca on the afternoon of July 23.  Thankfully the incident left none injured, but passers by where outraged on the coldness of one of the crew who just dropped the mast on the sinking craft without checking if anyone was hurt.  Some news sources are also claimed the sailing boat was in the spot to be scrapped.  Blue Magic seems to have hit some technical difficulty in gear engagement and in the instance kept on pushing forward hitting and sinking the small sailing craft on its bow.
M/y Blue Magic is a 1998 build Heesen 4700 as designed by Mulder and semi-produced from 1998 to 2009 in eight units.  Blue Magic was last refitted in 2017.

Project: Sanlorenzo SL96 Asymetric

Sanlorenzo present the project for the SL96 Asymmetric with exteriors and layout designed by Bernardo Zuccon, and interiors by Laura Sessa. The design consolidates the direction taken in 2018 with the presentation of the SL102 Asymmetric, which the company calls the world’s first asymmetrical yacht, and showcases Sanlorenzo's ability to work with the concept of space, reinterpreting it from alternative perspectives and exploring different ways to exploit it. SL96 Asymmetric is born of this approach, with a side deck on the starboard side, but not the port, because it has been moved up to the roof of the superstructure in order to free up a large surface area for the interiors and offer more space, light, relaxation and flexibility of use.  The concept of asymmetry springs from a meeting of different minds and creative approaches. Car designer Chris Bangle’s brilliant original idea has been developed by Bernardo Zuccon with the shipyard’s engineers and designers.  Possibly in this kind of design of present modern Italian motor yacht the SL102 Asymmetric is the first of its kind, but certainly this concept has been used in the past by other American and Asian build motor yachts.  Still Sanlorenzo gives it a new spin thanks to a lower bulkhead which increases light and views to the dining area.

New Model: Baglietto 55m T-Line

Baglietto, a historic and legendary Italian name with 160 years building luxury superyachts, has launched its new 55-meter motor yacht named Severin's on Saturday, July 6, at it's shipyard in La Spezia at the presence of her happy owner, his family and friends, the yacht crew and the owner representative from the Edmiston team.  Known as hull no.10225, M/Y Severin's was showcased for the first time in the warm light of a golden sunset on the Gulf of Poet at the presence of many guests, civil and military authorities, international media, CEOs and business executives, as well as the team who was part of the construction and their respective families.  After the flag-raising ceremony, Italian singer, performer and X Factor finalist, Aba Chiara, sang the Italian national anthem and Michele Gavino, CEO of Baglietto, gave a welcome speech on behalf of the shipyard. The launch M/Y Severin°s followed the traditional baptism ritual of the sea, with the christening of the yacht and the Champaign bottle crash.  This new 55-meter hull is part of Baglietto’s traditional platform designed by Francesco Paszkowski Design.  The vessel’s soft and sleek lines reflect Baglietto’s traditional Italian style and, together with the lowered gunwales and side air vents, will embody the Seagull brand’s distinct aesthetic features. Francesco Paszkowski designed the warm and cozy interior in collaboration with architect Margherita Casprini.  The layout, which is set up perfectly for charter with a total of six cabins, was developed through the wonderful cooperation between the client, Baglietto and Francesco Paszkowski Design.  The main deck is dedicated to the family. It has a vast master suite with a central bed, a secluded office, and a walk-in closet. Two guest cabins for the family members are located on the same deck as well. The central lobby hosts a panoramic lift in marble which connects the three decks. The main saloon aft at the entrance offers an in-and-out area with an elegant space enclosed by a glass window that can be completely opened. The dining area has a central round table which completes the main deck layout.  On the lower deck, there are two additional guest cabins, with the crew area next to the professional galley. The crew’s quarters include a crew mess room and six crew cabins all with ensuite heads. The captain’s cabin is on the upper deck next to the modern wheelhouse, which has an integrated system provided by Telemar.  One more guest cabin is located on the upper deck, which has a multi-functional space furnished with a sofa and two Pullman beds. This area can easily become a playroom, or a massage room as required. The interior layout is complete with a living room, conversation area, and a gaming table. Outside, always on the upper deck, you can find a dining table for ten with a bar and relax area located aft.  The sun deck, a Baglietto trademark, is astonishing: 150 square meters of al fresco space entirely devoted to gatherings and outdoor activities. The stern offers a vast sunbathing area with freestanding sunbeds, while a relax area is located under the shadows of the roll bar. The two pop-up tables can transform this space into a cozy dining spot. There is also a swimming pool and bar on this deck.  The placement of the tender and toys in the fore-deck allows more space to be dedicated to the Beach Club, which has double access. The Beach Club offers 55 square meters of space to relax with a steam shower, bar, and an additional area perfect for a gym and spa. The Beach Club faces the sea, ideal for those tranquil moments on the water.  The yacht is certified with the maximum class by Lloyd’s Register of Shipping and has received two Caterpillar engines 2719hp push her at a maximum speed of 17 knots and cruising speed of 12 knots.  M/Y Severin's, hull no. 10225, is an example of Baglietto’s flexibility and full use of its T-Line production.  Baglietto is recognized all over the world for its Italian design and craftsmanship, as well as its cutting-edge technology and performance. It relies on a state-of-the-art, entirely renovated shipyard, capable of ensuring an average production rate of three to four yachts per year. To date, there are four super yachts under construction at Baglietto’s modern La Spezia shipyard: a 43-meter HT Fast Line; a 54-meter, a 40-meter, and a 48-meter T-Line, three of which set to be delivered in 2020.

Project: Canados 919 Gladiator RD

Open is back?  Or so many would say since the news of this new Canados 919 Gladiator RD project and order follows the launch of the new Otam 85 GTS.  Let's say the interest is growing, in a size upward of 25 meters, something which they always have suffered with the exception of the Mangusta 80 which sold in loads onward of 1994 till about 2007 when then Overmarine modified it to the hardtop style of the other models.  Canados has in recent years build a name in the super sport yacht today called the Gladiator range, thanks to a fast and very performing 90 Open it launched around ten years ago.  Before that Cantieri Navali di Ostia was been famous mostly for its conservative looking flybridge motor and super yachts upward of fifteen meters.  The 919 Gladiator RD is the continuation of the 90 Open and brings a lot of innovative thinking in its deck design used from fore to aft as never seen in this size, bringing to a certain extent ideas and philosophies more akin to the large centre console currently invading the North American market.  Moving around the Canados 919 Gladiator RD will be safe thanks to the full walk around bulwarks, and the centre console influence brings  fresh design thinking in this size.  The interior of the 919 Gladiator will be offered in a fully custom choice of three or four cabins layout, with a separate galley and two crew cabins for three or four persons.  Performance wise Canados is keen to point out that the 919 Gladiator RD will be the fastest super sport yacht in its size reaching top speeds up to 52 knots, and cruise comfortably at 44 knots with the large powerful option of triple Man 2000hp engines and surface drive propulsion combination.  Still for those wanting to go slower the Canados 919 Galdiator RD is offered in twin engine installations with surface drives or more conservative and slower line shaft propulsion.

Project: Solaris Power Lobster 48 Hard-Top

After launching the Power 55 in the first part of the year Norberto Ferretti promised that a full line of Solaris Power tradition inspired cruisers will be complete in a two year time frame.  The Solaris Power Lobster 48 Hard-Top will be the next way point in this promise, set to debut in the Dusseldorf boat show 2020.  The Solaris Power Lobster 48 Hard-Top is again a design to Brunello Acampora which at this point we have to believe will design all the range, and its pretty atypical of Norberto who does like to stream line a model brand series range to one designer, to give it character and recognition.  The Neapolitan designer follows the Lobster 55 in the 48 and presents a modern take on the traditional down East element design in a two meter small size.  The Lobster 48 Hard-Top will be offered with two layout choice for a two cabins plus crew, or a single cabin with a lower L-shaped lounger and an extra storage compartment to port side.  The Solaris Power Lobster 48 Hard-Top will be standard powered by twin Volvo 435hp engines which will give a top speed of thirty knots, and optional 480hp which give a rather enthusiastic estimates of 35 knots maximum for only 90 extra horses and the same Volvo 5.5 liter six cylinder block.  A Solaris Power 48 Flybridge is also in the works.

Project: Cayman F520

Cayman yachts continues its philosophy of bringing a new model each year, and for 2019 it will present the new F520 at the upcoming September 2019 Cannes boat show.  Designed by Ferragni who is the design firm responsible for the incredible work they did on Cayman's new 2018 model F920 flagship.  For the second Cayman model the Cremona Lombardy design firm went for more conservative looks outside, looking at certain angles to be a motor yacht from a decade ago.  The upright flybridge design and low radar arch also reminds me to a certain extent of the Cayman 50 Fly launched in 2007.  But the new Cayman F520 is not all nostalgia and here we have some modern touches from the IPS pod propulsion, to the forward bench settee on the fore deck, and large hull side windows.

Two Persons Saved from Sinking Yacht Near Palmarola

Two French nationals were saved when a sixteen meter sport yacht started sinking near the islet of Palmarola and offshore to Gaeta, on the early morning 01:30 time of Saturday sixth July.  The two French nationals aged 47 and 53 years respectively had left Fiumicino in direction to the island of Ischia, when about half way into the one hundred nautical miles trip saw water starting coming into the engine room of the yacht.  Seeing this the two boaters first tried to stop the water ingress and then when finding out that this was not possible released the EPIRB and abandoned the sinking yacht.  The EPIRB message arrived to the Guardia Costiera of Gaeta who immediately dispatched one of its vessels for search and rescue, finding the two boaters about twelve nautical miles offshore to Gaeta onboard a life-raft.  Later the Guardia Costiera also located the semi-sank sport yacht, and then took the two French boaters to Gaeta harbor where they also received a medical check up.
The sport yacht in this sinking is Cantieri Navali dell Mediterraneo Continental 50 Tender, a model which debuted in 2009, based on the standard Continental 50 but featuring a full fore to aft walk around deck, and large forward dinette, with this traded for less spacious lower deck accommodation.  The Continental 50 Tender evolved and was replaced by the 54 model in 2019.  CNM was founded 2003 debuting in 2006 with the Continental 80 model.

Two Injured in Johns Pass Marina Florida Formula Boat Fire

Two men were injured as a ten meter Formula sport cruiser exploded first and then went ablaze in Johns Pass Marina, Treasure Island, Florida on the early afternoon of Friday fifth July.  The 34-foot Formula cruiser went ablaze after fuelling up, with the marina manager reporting it went ablaze as the sport cruisers started its engine, with the stern bursting into flames.  Following the blaze the two men jumped in the water, as marina staff pushed the boat away from the dock as its mooring lines burned away with the fire.  Treasure Island Fire Rescue responded to the fire as the two men suffered first and second-degree burns, but did not go to the hospital.  The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The Formula sport cruiser in this fire is a second generation 34 PC model as produced from 2004 to 2015.  The second generation Formula 34 PC came as a replacement to the first generation series which was produced from 1991 to 2002.

New Launch: Wim Van der Valk 32.00 M Hull no WV0120

Wim Van Der Valk is delighted to announce the successful launch of the 32-metre Raised Pilothouse named m/y Jangada 2. Built for a repeat client of a Wim Van der Valk and a Raised Pilothouse the 24 model, this super yacht is the fifth and at 32 meter the largest to date in the Dutch builder custom aluminium build Raised Pilothouse line.  WV0120 is now being put though her final paces, after which she will head to the Mediterranean for the 2019 summer of cruising along the French Riviera.  The owners of 32M Raised Pilothouse made the most of all their experiences on their first 24.99M Raised Pilothouse to have their new yacht even more customized to their requirements. Working in close partnership with Nick Top and Guido de Groot, they designed some very specific details, ensuring that the VIP suite bathroom on the main deck closes off for use by guests during the day, adding to the crew accommodations and creating an even more spacious galley by optimizing the functional area under the pilothouse.  This kind of smart thinking typifies the genuinely bespoke nature of a yacht that reinforces why our Raised Pilothouse line has been such a hit. And there are many more ways in which Jangada 2 makes a clear statement of her own. She has a minimalist interior style that is based primarily on whitewashed European oak. The flybridge deck has an outdoor dining area, a sunbathing space with plenty of loose sunbeds, an all-aluminium hardtop providing ample shade and a smart wet bar.  The main deck aft is spacious with curved glass sliding doors to the lounge, while a VIP suite forward offers fine views. The full-beam owner’s stateroom is on the lower deck and includes large his and her wardrobes and a dedicated office area. There are three other cabins sleeping seven adults and children, bringing the possible guest total to eleven.

Project: Nordhavn N41

Nordhavn is pleased to announce its newest passage making cruiser, the N41, destined to become it's  next legendary vessel.  With over seven million nautical miles of documented ocean crossings, Nordhavn has set important long cruising records. Last year Nordhavn retired the venerable 40, it's smallest passage-maker explorer cruiser and a record-setter in her own right. It left a void in the Nordhavn product line that begged for a compact displacement expedition cruiser.  Cue the sleek, modern, seaworthy Nordhavn 41, which challenges the notion of the traditional couple’s cruising vessel. Her profile is deliberately low providing a stable and comfortable ride, and her hull design, having undergone an advanced and rigorous analysis, is CE Certified Category A Ocean for offshore conditions. This means the average cruising duo can take on any itinerary with confidence whether crossing to the South Pacific or exploring around the Pacific Northwest.  Comfort and maneuverability is the name of the game on-board. The Nordhavn 41 is available with a single luxurious owners cabin or with two cabins, second guest cabin located to starboard with two L-shaped berths.  The Nordhavn N41 will be powered by twin Kibota 75hp with line shaft propulsion, while a huge 3400 liters fuel capacity will be make her able to do most ocean crossing.  Debut is scheduled for January 2020 during Dusseldorf boat show.

Man Fire Injured as Cuddy Cruiser Explodes in Poquoson, Virginia

A man suffered second degree fire injuries after his seven meter cuddy cruiser exploded near Benett Road in Poquoson, Virginia on the morning of Wednesday third July.  The man was reportedly working on his boat and after finishing it tried to ignite it, when this exploded and throwed him into the water.  Still conscious the man still managed to swim to the boat and untied it, in order to avoid damage to nearby boats.  A nearby person who saw the incident called 911 as Marine Fire Fighter came to fight the blaze from the water.
The boat in this fire is a Penn Yan 248 Heritage as produced in the eighties.  Penn Yan was founded in 1921 by German-native Charles A. Herrman, taking name from the location of its premises.  Penny Wan started building wooden canoes and boats, switching to fiberglass in the early sixties.  Penn Yan is sold in 1979 and will cease operating in 2002.
