Project: Beneteau 32 Antares

After revamping all the Antares range in the 2009 season Beneteau presents the project for a new 32 in this range. Designed by Sarrazin the 32 Antares, is based on the 30 and will be the smallest twin engined flybridge in the Beneteau range. As to everything there is two sides of every coin and while the twin engines of the 32 Antares gives easier manoeuvrability in port, better balance underway, and greater security you will be paying a price for more fuel of about 30% at the pump and a double to service and parts. Accommodation for the 32 Antares offers a two cabin interior same to the 30, minus the engine room. Sizes are all also the same to the single engined 30 Antares, although beam is surprisingly slimmer by six centimetres for the twin engined 32 Antares. www.beneteau.com

New Model: Haines 400

Haines is a UK builder mostly known at home who specialize on British looking motor cruisers. This Norfolk based boat builder recently launched its latest flagship model the 400 which was presented the past July, and made its official debut during the Southampton 2010 show. Although I found about them only recently, Haines has been in business for thirty years since 1980, and is good to see a company still believing in improving and taking to the future a British looking design. The new Haines 40o is as any pure British cruiser a forty feet aft cabin motor cruiser with a superstructure design by Justin Haines. Having contemporary British looks with proven sea keeping ability, the 400 represents a leap forward for Haines upgrading its size by five feet from its previous large offer, but having also choices at heart in hull shape planning or displacement, engines single or twin, wood type options, but also for a further dinette to port which reduces the galley size. The 400 incorporates latest trends toward light spacious living areas, with large bonded windows and roof hatches. The exterior plan offers a large enclosed aft deck area with seating for eight, double helm to starboard with an easy to operate canopy, and wide side decks for safety which lead to the fore deck sunbathing area cushions forward. Interior accommodation plan presents a U-shaped saloon, entertainment centre with TV on the aft bulk head, and galley with two large double master cabins with spacious en-suites below. The galley is an impressive feature of the 400 with spaces abounding and full beam offset size from port to starboard sides and includes a large stainless fridge freezer, four burner hob, combination oven microwave, and good work top space. Fitting out is in light oak veneer finish with walnut steps, flooring to the galley, feature panels, along with blinds to all windows giving a contemporary look. Hull one which featured a planning hull was fitted with twin Volvo 330hp engines giving 30 knots wide open throttle speeds. Important to note that choices are part of the 400 not only in hull shape planning or displacement, engines single or twin, wood type options, but also for a further dinette to port which reduces the galley size.

New Model: Italian Yachts 72 Jaguar

Since I saw the rendering for the new Italian Yachts 72 Jaguar over a year ago I was inspired by its looks, mostly because it has a very sport profile to its lines. Designer Roberto Angel who comes from the school of designer Paolo Caliari this one being a big contributor in the seventies and eighties to the copied by everyone Italian modern yacht, keeps the Jaguar heritage to the entry level Genoa built Italian Yachts 72, and presented an aggressive looking sport yacht which looks going fast even when tied up. But the 72 Jaguar is not only this. It also features practical elements like its deep side decks, which take you safely to the fore peak but here developing into a full beam protected area. The fore deck is also a clever and modular having an area with a forward looking settee, and a different central circle shaped sun pad. Not a first here as another Italian builder located more South presented this on its flagship model two years ago but surely cool, and apart this it does not interfere the helmsman view if persons are seated on the sunpad while underway. I wonder what kind of choices one can do to that circle shaped sun pad. May be for extravagant clients a small jacuzzi pool can be fitted, or for the more practical ones this can be made to transform to a circle shaped dinette. The standard accommodation plan for the Italian Yachts 72 Jaguar offers three double cabins all with private heads. The owners stateroom is located to mid ship, while the VIP suite is to fore. Crew accommodation is for two members in a separate cabin. Power to the 72 Jaguar is from twin MTU 1500hp standard or 1600hp optional, with ZF Searex surface drives propulsion giving a wide open throttle max speed of 45 knots.

Improve-it = Linssen 25.9 Grand Sturdy

Linssen Yachts takes a course of innovation introducing a 25.9 Grand Sturdy with a hybrid propulsion system. For this improved unique 25.9 Grand Sturdy Linssen adopted the new Mastervolt E Power which uses the DriveMaster 7.5 Ultra electric motor, combined with a 48 V Mass Combi, and four LI-ION batteries what becomes a particularly efficient drive system. The DriveMaster arrangement is backed up by one of Mastervolt’s proven 3kW Whisper Generators to cope with the power demands of serious cruising and longer voyages. When travelling slowly, the main arrangement will provide up to eight hours of relaxed, fully electric cruising facilitated by the lack of vibration, engine noise or exhaust fumes. At cruising speed, the range is around 3 hours without generator backup. At the end of the day on the water, manoeuvring into a berth becomes a pleasure, helped by the high torque provided at lower engine revs. Another integral part of the electric propulsion system being installed on the 25.9 Grand Sturdy hybrid version is Mastervolt’s 48 V Mass Combi combined battery charger and inverter. This intelligent power management system combines a sophisticated battery charger with a pure sine wave inverter. On the Linssen 25.9 Grand Sturdy, it will ensure smooth battery charging and drive power when the boat is using the Mastervolt Whisper Generator for extra motoring range.

New Model: Maritimo 440 Offshore Convertible

Maritimo presents its new entry level model with the 440 Offshore Convertible which is a cruiser usable for fishing. This means it is not a pure big game machine as the experts of the genre will notice but none the less it still can be used for some competitions. Presented by Maritimo's boss Bill Barry-Cotter during the opening of the Sydney boat show the new 440 Offshore Convertible is a very competitive Sportfish Cruiser, and features unseen solutions in this size like the internal staircase to the enclosed bridge. It also has other extraordinary features as astern galley, bi-fold doors which open the saloon to the aft deck, and buoyancy tanks in the engine room. This last feature introduced first in the Sanctuary Cove presented Maritimo C47 Sports Cabriolet. The interior offers a three cabin two head plan, with owners room forward, and two cabins to mid-ship. The main deck presents a split area saloon, with the welcoming galley looking aft, and the fore part having two L-shaped settees. Helm station is on the three part covered, forward and side raised bridge. Power is from twin Volvo 435hp with IPS pod drives.

Project: Mano M37 Gran Sport

Mano seems to be putting a lot of new models in recent time and after launching its M42,50 flagship in early Summer this Italian boat builder moves on to present this M37 Gran Sport project. The M37 Grand Sport seems an expansion of the M32 Gran Sport project presented over a year ago and is designed by Naples firm Cabes Yachts. Taking innovation at heart both Mano and Cabes present a center console with a full length cockpit with cabin spaces nearly competing to those of a cruiser in similar sizes, with a lower deck offering an owners cabin to fore, double berth to midship, shower head, L-shaped saloon, and galley. The 37 Gran Sport is also full of options not only to color choices, but also to what regards its fitting out. Its exterior offers four choices to decide from; the radar arch model as the picture above, full open, T-bar, and last a glassed hard top covering all the center console. You also have inside options where an owner can choose to swap the galley for a second settee. With this you will have the galley on the main deck, which stands behind the central helm position only. But can be an interesting option for those who use such a boat mostly in Summer. Choices again are vast to what regards powering the M37 Gran Sport with a total of eleven engines from Mercruiser, Volvo, and Yanmar from twin 220 up to 320hp. Propulsion comes from all the stern drives from these three engine manufactures, and the option of a Volvo IPS pod drive option.

New Launch: F&S 54 Hull 15

F&S from Delaware presents this new 54 feet Hull number 15. Designed by Applied Concepts this cold molded custom built Sportfish Yacht is for a repeated customer who with this launch is now on his third F&S following 62 Hull 8 from 2006, and the 2007 built 45 Hull 10. Applied Concepts and Jim Flloyd's F&S presented a Sportfish Yacht which certainly is coming from the future with innovative super structures being testimony to the revolution this 54 feet classic Carolina lined hull wants to show. F&S hull number fifteen breaks the mold indeed with its all-weather bridge and unique composite tower. The main deck area is also a living closed-open cross over, having comforts associated with a flybridge but being a light filled area. The revolutionary tower built of composite sits on the hard top which covers the main deck, and indeed it does offer the comfort of a flybridge, although space is limited to two persons. The main deck welcomes you on its two step raised area with the mezzanine and full entertainment relax zone under the hard top which has an L-shaped settee, a central pompano style helm station with bolster style seat, and two co-pilot seats. Down below the interior has been made simple with a spacious C-shaped sofa, two open bunk berths, galley, shower head, and an owners stateroom to fore. Power to this 54 Hull 15 is for not so big twin Cats 1015hp.

Project: Pershing 58

After no new models launched in 2009, Pershing wants to make the 2010 year one full of them, presenting three novelties in this years fall, and after taking the 50.1 in Cannes, at Genoa it presented the 58. As it is easy to see with this rendering this new 58 comes from the updating of the successful 56 model launched in 2005. With the Pershing 58 Fulvio De Simoni updates the super structure, and adds the hull with six large view windows, three per side situated in all of the three large cabins below. As those who follow Pershing can see the hard top now takes the New Idea looks as presented with the 72 in 2007, and there after followed by all new models launched since then. In particular De Simoni 58 new hard top lines take a lot of inspiration from the 72, 64, 80, and the new 92.

New Model: Atlantis 44

Atlantis presents the page two of its new direction with second 44 model debuting at Genoa. Important to note that both the new Atlantis models represented a full novelty and where not just a make up change to an old design. The 44 replaces two units from Altantis who both sold quite well, the 42 which was the first badged Atlantis, and the top selling Gobbi designed 425 SC. Young designers Neo Design who take over from Righini as expected bring a family feeling to the details shown on the 48 presented just about a month ago in Cannes. You have the open feeling with a hard top which is light on features, and the cockpit although smaller features a similar layout to the bigger sister with a sun pad aft, C-shaped dinette, galley opposite, and lounger under the windscreen. The interior has also a similar layout to the 48, with a full beam owners room, VIP suite to fore, galley, and a C-shaped saloon. Basically if you compare it to the 48 you miss a high low bathing platform, a smaller aft deck, and stern drive propulsion instead of line shafts. Stern drives do consume less to shaft or pods, although higher maintenance costs are to be had. Power for the Atlantis 44 comes from Cummins 350hp with an unusual for a European builder for having a Bravo Three dual propeller propulsion set up. So far there seems to be no Volvo option, we will see if this will change.

Project: Codecasa 50 Serie Vintage

Codecasa the Italian super yacht builder presents this new interesting 50 meters project which also launches the new Vintage series line. Codecasa has so far in its history always produced sport yachts with planning hull and a complete alloy build, or the three decks moving palaces who in most cases have a steel hull, aluminium super structure and semi displacement underwater shapes. This new 50 Vintage will have a construction as the standard three decks Codecasa super yachts, that is of steel hull and alloy super structure. Its design focus is on having traditional looks like an axe bow coming from the early twentieth century ships, straight lines, and a stern which although sloop also represents the past. Accommodation will be for five double guest cabins of which three being VIP, and an owners apartment. Crew accommodation is for eight members in four cabins, plus a chief engineer and captains cabin. Power is from twin 2448hp Cat engines which will give a 17 knots top speed at light load, and a 12 knots cruise which gives a 6000 nautical miles range till you need to refuel one hundred thousand litres of diesel.

New Model: Mondomarine 40 Meters Semidisplacement

A success on the market for its super yachts induced Mondomarine to launch the 40 Metres Semidispacement. Unlike recent Mondomarine which are built of alloy or steel this 40 meter named Villa Reis was built in fiberglass composite material. This new model is based on an in house project by Mondomarine design team, with an interior by architect Luca Dini. The external lines of this 40 Metres Semidispalcement which is the the fifty fourth yacht boasting the logo by the Shipyard of Savona related to Mondo Group of Gallo D’Alba, are characterized, by the wheelhouse, perfectly circular and with a semi circle view. A difference is the positioning of the sun-deck area, provided with a Jacuzzi, in the outside bow area of the upper deck, instead to the usual stern cockpit or on the sun-deck. The interior layout, rather traditional in the layout and with a neo-classical touch, includes the owner’s suite complete with a study in the wide body area of the main deck, a large salon with dining room and the galley on the same deck. Four guest cabins are located on the lower deck while the upper deck includes a living room, a gym full of light, the Captain’s cabin and the wheelhouse. The interiors with their sober and elegant lines, the meticulous care for stylistic details, the use of light wood for the floors of salon and lounge and of Italian Walnut wood and Radica of Madrona for the furniture, the marbles of great value and the ceilings in light Alcantara make the rooms warm and comfortable and emphasize their classic and elegant character. Power is from twin MTU 1500hp which give a 17 knots top speed, a 15 knots cruise, and an economic 11 knots which gives 2600 nautical miles.

Project: Horizon 80 AquaCat

Taiwan boat builder Horizon continues to present new range and style of boats which go out of the usual thinking like that of its successful Mediterranean looking Elegance series. This time is turn for a Power Catamaran with the 80 AquaCat which knocks a mini Super Yacht size, thanks to its overall length of eighty one feet. As expected the 80 AquaCat benefits of the usual catamaran advantages of better stability, and less water resistance especially at medium speeds. This last equals to better fuel economy. Horizon also says minimum draft but there data state 1.50 metres which seems a standard and similar to a planning mono hull of this size. Accommodation for this two deck and a half will be for three guest cabins with owners stateroom on the main deck, and two identical VIP suites on the lower deck. Two other twin bunk cabins what look to be for the crew or kids on plan are located to fore peak of the hulls. The two deck and a half 80 AquaCat was designed by Australian architect Mark Ellis who has quite a resume of power catamarans to his name and here presents a twin bulbous hull shape.

Engine: Volvo Penta D13-800MC 800hp

Volvo Penta is introducing the D13, a new inboard marine diesel for marine commercial applications. The D13 in 800hp versions delivers impressive performance with low fuel consumption and minimal exhaust emissions. It is suitable for fast patrol boats in high speed operations as well as for performance work boats requiring low life-cycle costs. Massive low-end torque is also the feature of Volvo Penta’s inboard diesels from low rpm, a prerequisite for rapid and safe acceleration. The new D13 is equipped with Volvo Penta’s highly efficient twin-entry turbo with pulse charging, the power in each exhaust pulse provides the pulse pressure. The D13-800 features dual-stage turbo technology which helps produce a torque of over 2900 Nm even at 800 rpm. This gives superb acceleration with virtually no sign of smoke. Another important feature is that the D13 retains a very high torque throughout its speed range. This makes it possible to maintain good operating speed even with a heavily loaded boat or in rough seas. EMS 2, the engine control system developed by Volvo, regulates fuel injection and monitors engine conditions. The system controls the unit injectors, one per cylinder, which operate at a pressure of as much as 2000 bar and atomize the fuel for optimum combustion. The result of this efficient combustion is lower fuel consumption for the D13 than the previous model, at the same power output. The D13 is also very low on noxious emissions and particulates. All versions are certified to the IMO NOx Tier 2, EU IWW, and US EPA Tier 2 requirements. They also meet the upcoming US EPA Tier 3 emission regulations the world’s most stringent. The D13 is available with quick-shift reverse gear that provides very fast but soft shifting with a minimum delay. The reverse gear also comes with a low speed function as standard, which means that the speed when idling drops by 50%. Low-speed mode is available as an option for all reverse gears. The D13-800 have the same robust basic architecture as the Volvo D9, D11, and D16 inline-6 diesel engine platform. The platform features a robust block design, wet liners, rear-end transmission, ladder frame and a single cylinder head with overhead camshaft operating 4 valves per cylinder and the injectors. This contributes to smooth running, high reliability and long-term durability.

New Model: Astondoa 50 Fly

Astondoa launches its new 50 Fly model, a flybridge motor yacht of just fifteen metres which features incredible spaces for its size. May be the only sin for the Christian Gatto designed 50 Fly just as the smaller 44 sister is just for copying too much the triangle bow of a certain Italian builder, but for the rest the 50 Fly breaks new ground in this size for its space which is over whelming. The 50 Fly has also to be appreciated because it does this without looking too heavy on the lines. The most important area of the 50 Fly is its lower deck, this place having three double cabins, and two heads. Nothing new here, sure but the owners stateroom is full beam, and the third cabin is no bunk. So that is also an improvement on the Astondoa 55. You can also get an extra crew cabin which stands behind the master room as optional. The main deck is the other thing to like, and versus recent designs goes a bit backwards having a split level saloon with dining and helm in the raised part, and saloon with C-shaped sofa and entertainment desk on the lower welcome area. Power is from standard twin Cummins 600hp in a shaft propulsion configuration, although to get these spaces I am sure the ZF Integral vee drive units are used. None the less nothing wrong here, but according to some dealers web site an IPS option just as the smaller 44 should be available here with IPS800 choice.

Project: SACS 13 Strider

SACS present the 13 Strider project, which will be the third version of this hull first presented last year in limited edition Lancia di Lancia, and then followed by the recently launched Coupe model. The 13 Strider continues the Christian Grande collaboration who presents a rib cruiser with a lot of open spaces outside, but also offering a comfortable cabin for a couple below. Cockpit, sun pad and aft platform of the 13 Strider have unparalleled dimensions for the sizes offered here. An other interesting design element for the 13 Strider is the centre console with a sporty aggressive look. Outside is also space for a small galley in the cockpit, with a retractable bimini protecting this living area and aft sun pad from the sun. The interior design shows the high class of the rib with exotic wood, elegant furniture and trendy accessories. Four choices of power systems are available from two diesel; Cummins 350hp or FPT 480hp with surface drives, and petrol gasoline; twin Mercruiser 320hp or 425hp with stern drive.

New Model: Bavaria 38 Sport HT

Bavaria continue to develop its new Sport range with the launching of the third model, and first hard top in the range, the 38 Sport HT. The BMW Group DesignWorks USA Sport series was launched a year ago in September 2009 with the 28, and this new 38 Sport HT model as the title says is the hard top version of the open launched in January 2010 at the Dusseldorf show with the same layout in the below cabin and main deck. As said for the open version the 38 Sport HT exterior aft deck offers a variety of features; sun pad aft, C-shaped settee, wet bar with grill, helm station, companion seat, and a lounger to port side fore. The 38 Sport HT hard top which is the difference here allowing all weather rain or sun cruises and features well laid panorama view windows, and a roof which opens up a big portion far down. Below we have the two cabins four plus two berths interior which can be made to suit one taste thanks to three woods and twelve different combinations. Power for the Sport HT is for a five engine, and three stern drive choices two of which are petrol gasoline engines. The smallest and largest options are both diesels starting from twin Volvo's 260hp up to the large 370hp choice.

Improve-it = Maxi Dolphin MD51 Power

Maxi Dolphin launches a new improved version of the MD51 Power. This sport yacht is once again the expression of the Maxi Dolphin philosophy to build custom projects suited to the clients needs. Here it combines the designer style typical of its range with advanced technological research resulting in a unique sport yacht. This new version has also the capability to handle all electric, electronic and infotainment systems through an Apple i-Pad, which is located on the noticeable central aileron radar arch. But this improved MD51 Power achieves a lot more by reviewing some of the components, such as: carbon inserts on the boat sides, that set off the metallic light blue paint of the hull; windscreen extended to aft, offering extra protection; air outlet grills on the transom enlarged, to underline the power of the craft; prow with integrated Led navigation lights and the drive seat turned into a one place capsule. The interior arrangement is an open space; with many details and parts in carbon fibre like the companionway’s steps, skirting boards, washbasin and centre table enhancing this sport yacht look. Power for this sophisticated open sport yacht is twin Volvo 435hp with IPS forward looking dual propeller drives propulsion giving a max speed of 38 knots.

Project: Heaven 42 Open

After making it to the global headlines a couple years ago with the launching of the biggest Rib Yacht ever built the 80, Heaven returns with a more normal sized project that of the 42 Open. Taking similar looks from the smaller 34 Cruiser and sitting in between the sportier 40 Open, and 45 Open models, the 42 Open project is a Rib Cruiser which will measure a length of thirteen metres and will be a comfortable hard top cabin boat but with the added security of a rib. Its cockpit layout is in fact more made for cruising with a C-shaped settee aft, two L-shaped wet bars which can be fitted with an optional exterior galley, and a two person seated helm station. The 42 Open lower deck offers a plan with two cabins for a total of four berths, galley, and a shower head layout. As usual the rib benefits are featured in the Heaven 42 Open like that of a fifteen maximum persons capability, and a top speed of 48 knots with the largest option from twin stern drive engines.

Project: Clipper 54 Hudson Bay

Down under Clipper Yachts has been hard working developing a new line of sedan sport yacht and cruisers for the Australian boating lifestyle and so here come the first project of this new line, the 54 Hudson Bay planned for a worldwide launch at the Sanctuary Cove boat show coming May 2011. The design brief for the first Hudson Bay model was to combine classic styling with contemporary lines, and most importantly a functional sport yacht layout for family boating with a good livability. Saying it in more basic this means the new Clipper wants to unite a live aboard concept with that of a day boat. Two lower deck accommodation designs will be available. A choice between a three cabin two bathrooms plan, or two cabins two heads with a rear kids cabin for teenage privacy. In the two cabins version the full beam mid ship owners room also gets a full bathtub in its en-suite head. Living area of the 54 Hudson Bay is located on the main deck with galley and L-shaped saloon settee divided by the aft cockpit with patio doors. Tenders will be mounted on a standard hydraulic swim platform aft which makes launching recovery easy. The 54 Hudson Bay will also unveil a unique design for this size with the feature of a foredeck lounge area along with a walk through seating and dining. Clipper believes this new Sport Yacht Hudson Bay range will offer families a good blend of indoor and outdoor living and accommodation for days away at sea with a gorgeous exterior styling that exudes class and elegance. Clipper's blue water cruising credibility will also be evident on the hull design of the Hudson Bay which share similarities with the proven Cordova's which are equally comfortable cruising at 12 or 20 knots. A smaller 47 Hudson Bay is also on the works, this to be launched in the end of 2011. Watch this spot for details on this project.

New Model: Ferretti 620

A launching in Genoa, this is the 620 which replaces and re-examines the 592, from which its origin and inspiration comes. A sporty evolution from Zuccon and Ferretti AYT which features several structural and decorative alterations, outside and inside which endow it with greater livability and comfort. Measuring eighteen meters the Ferretti 620 follows what was introduced with the 630 model in 2006 like single large side windows on the main deck, and the astern galley. With the 620 Ferretti aims to respond to the demands of owners looking for a motor yacht offering a balance between a compact exterior and excellent living solutions. The lower deck has two large guest cabins and a full-beam master stateroom with large, open view windows, typically a characteristic of much larger yachts. Externally, the profile has been made lighter through the insertion of four large windows in the hull: two large windows with portholes which can be opened have been fitted at bow, in the VIP cabin, and two oval windows with double portholes light the guest cabins. The cockpit has been extended in length and rendered more usable through insertion of a fixed teak table and relocation of the gangway to the left a typical solution for much larger yachts in order to make the access point for boarding more functional. Inside harmonious contrasts between the new flamed, bleached oak wood, the original biscuit colour of some structural details and the decor which plays with light colours giving a feel of contemporary elegance, intervene to move the space. The position of the galley has remained astern, as in the previous 592 which continues the continuity introduced by the 630 in 2006, now a feature of all the models under 66 feet of the line. The astern galley is one of the most copied features introduced by Ferretti but here an electric wall solution has been inserted which further increases both the aesthetics and onboard comfort. This wall, completed with the sliding door, isolates and closes the galley environment, turning the main deck into a living area. A number of changes have been made to divide the areas reserved for the crew, the engine room and the tank on the lower deck, resulting in more space and better quality of life on board in the owner area, too. In more detail, compared with the previous 592, the tank has been fitted between the owner area and the crew cabin. The crew now has accommodation which covers the entire width of the hull, with a porthole which can be opened and a separate head. The tank acts as further sound insulation, improving the acoustic quality of the master cabin, and decreasing sound levels by 3 dbA. Moreover, repositioning of the crew area has brought an advantage to the master cabin, too. A large head has been developed, which stretches out full-beam behind the master cabin bed. Ferretti 620 hull is an evolution of the 590, 591 and 592 and is fitted with twin MAN 900hp engines as standard or optional 1100 hp units which are propelled with line shafts and ZF integral Vee drive in semi tunnel props. This last feature of integral Vee drive is a first for a Ferretti, and to my knowledge also on a flybridge motor yacht. Speeds are a max of 33 knots with the large engine option, and 29 knots with the standard 900hp unit.

An unusual new model from Norway's Windy but this is the Dubois SR52 Blackbird. Designed as the title says by renowned yacht architect Ed Dubois, in collaboration with Windy's Hans Jorgen Johnsen the SR52 is a Sport Yacht size tender with a length of 52 feet. Project: Cranchi Fifty 6 Soft Top

Code named as project P-107, Cranchi presents its third member of the Yacht Class line with the Fify 6 Soft Top. A sport yacht of eighteen metres in length the Fifty 6 Soft Top follows recent Italian trends of offering a hard top Sport Yacht with a very open feel to it. The soft top relaized in special material in fact opens to all of the roof surface of the cockpit, and makes the 56 become a real open experience. For accommodation its lower deck layout offers a three cabins with two heads plan. The owners stateroom is full beam, with the queen sized double berth looking to the sides, a VIP room to fore, and a twin L-shaped bunk third guest cabin. A galley and L-shaped settee complete the lower deck plan. The Fifty 6 Soft Top will also be the second Cranchi hull which follows the 2006 launched 43 model to use the Volvo IPS drives in this case in the larger 800 and 900 versions with 600 and 700hp respectively. Estimated top speeds which are usually very true from Cranchi are a 31 to 33 max with the big Volvo IPS900 700hp option. The standard IPS 800 engine reduces top speed by a knot.

Project: Cheoy Lee 83 Serenity

Cheoy Lee presents the project for a full displacement super yacht set to launch in about a years time, the 83 Serenity. This new member of the Cheoy Lee Serenity range is a seaworthy and economical yacht which takes some roots from trawler explorer style small ships. Designed by Michael Burvenich, the 83 Serenity is available in two different forms, a more traditional canoe stern design, or a European model, this last including a Euro-transom with twin stairs from the aft deck to the swim platform. The Euro transom can also be configured with an optional passarelle. The hull is designed with flatter sections aft that enables the hull to run faster than a traditional displacement shape of the same water line length, yet still calculated to be approximately 30% more efficient at cruising speed than a similar sized semi-displacements at equivalent speeds. The interior layout will be a split level saloon offering a relaxing lounge upon entrance with a C-shaped sofa to starboard, a bar with three stools, and dining table. Further forward and up a step is the working area of the main deck where will be a separate galley, day head, and the helm station room which also features an L-shaped settee to starboard. New Model: Atlantis 48

The Atlantis range renewal which comes with the partnership of the young studio of NeoDesign was finally presented officially in Cannes, with the first 48 model. Atlantis announced this collaboration with this new young studio a year ago, and the 48 does represent what eight years before the successful 42 did back in Cannes 2002, which was the first Atlantis model to a Righini design with at the time Gobbi project departments, and Azimut Bennetti Group teaming up. The new 48 replaces the eight years produced 47 which has been a good success for Atlantis in many markets. Taking some cues from the two most recent Atlantis models that are the 54 and 40, the 48 represents the next step of the We Are Open philosophy. That is a Sport Cruiser which yes has a hard top but feels open as possible. That means free airy spaces and a sleek low upper structure. Notes which stand out are the three sunbathing areas, the very open hard top, and wide open spaces. The cockpit of the 48 is spacious, full of open spaces and a layout similar to that of the 54; central sunpad, L-shaped settee, galley, sun-lounge, and helm station. Below you get a two cabins plan with a full beam owners master room with a central double queens berth and en-suite head. Completing the lower deck is a VIP suite located to fore, C-shaped saloon which converts to an extra double berth, and a galley. For tender stowage you have a high low bathing platform aft. Power is from twin Cummins 600hp with line shaft propulsion, good enough for max speed of 35 knots and a cruise of 33.

Project: Pershing 50.1

Pershing presents the project of the 50.1 which is a reinterpretation of the top selling 50 model launched in 2003. This new sport yacht is again a work of architect Fulvio De Simoni, Pershing designer since ever, in collaboration with Ferretti Group AYT Advanced Yacht Technology, and the Centro Stile team. The new Pershing 50.1 is an expression of the Next Generation which, even with her sporty features, has a three double cabin interior which lives up to the expectations of those who know the style and the elegance of this famous brand. The new 50.1 will have the challenge to continue on the success of the 50 which has been the best selling model of the Pershing fleet for years. The new 50.1 combines great character with a high performance and excellent on-board living conditions. The below deck area is very comfortable and is exemplified by the specific attention to detail and choice of materials, such as the primary use of oak and the carpet for the flooring of the cabin and the dinette. In particular, the area occupied by the dinette features new varnished finishes which give the interiors a contemporary mark, like Matt finishes chosen to replace the previous glossy tones. With innovative aerodynamics and elegant lines the 50.1 is also the current smallest model of the Pershing fleet, as the 46 has been stopped in production for 2011. The 50.1 is available with Arneson surface transmissions which combined with twin MAN's 900hp engines, can reach a top speed of 46 knots, or 37 knots in the standard line shaft version.

Project: Prestige 500 S

Prestige wants to make the last part of 2010 a very busy year for them presenting a total of three new projects. The new Prestige 500 S will replace the 50 S2 and as all the range is a Garroni design, with Premorel for the concept. For the 500 S Garroni follows similar ingenuity details as seen on relative Jeanneau family sport cruiser the new NC11, but here having bigger possibilities due to the extra four metres in size. The interior is full of superb concepts starting with the astern galley by the patio door, to the full beam owners master stateroom. Most impressive is surely that this is a three cabins sport yacht with full beam owners suite layout none of which is a bunk berth. Below offers space for three cabins, and apart the mentioned owners room located to mid ship, we have a VIP to fore peak, and a third two single berths guest room. Other creative ideas are the telescopic aft deck sun shield, and another open canopy for the fore deck sun pads, both of these usually found on boats of bigger sizes. Power options has so far not been announced but the image does show a pair of Volvo second generation series drives which should offer a power of 600 or 700hp to this thirteen tons sport yacht.

New Model: Trader 38 Sprint

A revolution for Trader who has in the past embraced semi displacement cruisers and yachts, and this is the first for a fast sport cruiser, with a full planning hull type model. The 38 Sprint is a cool concept and may be is a real version how a British sport cruiser should look. It surely is made for an all weather use and its aft patio door which opens for two thirds, sun roof, and side-door by the helm make for a good way of showing this versatility. Other features for only 39 feet of length over all are full deep walk around side decks, a one peace windscreen, and the fore part of the saloon settee which turns to become a passengers and co-driver seat. The living area all on the main deck is equipped with a galley, C-shaped settee, and a single seat helm station. Below is two cabin single head layout, with owners master room to fore. SACS presents a most important project with the presentation of its new flagship the seventeen metre Strider Z which according to the builder features a good balance of concepts coming from the auto industry, and an interior style of a villa. Project: Azimut 48 Flybridge

A surprise presentation that of the new Azimut 48 project which is based on the Righini exterior, and Galeazzi interior designed five years produced 47. The changes which the 48 will have will be that of new windows for the the two midship located guest cabins, and an extended longer bathing platform aft with up and down hydraulic movement. Not that the 47 bathing platform was small but this last allows bigger tender stowage, and easier launching and recovery. The windows as this computer edited image of a 47 shows take also the latest Azimut style of its models with three verticals replacing the previous single peace. The norm for other Azimut models with these style windows is also for one of them usually the central to open. For the rest those 47 owners should not act so fast for a change, that is unless you want to stow a bigger tender, as the 48 keeps all the layout of the 47. Surprisingly without having a midship stateroom the 2005 launched 47 has one of the best layouts in this size, thanks to a clever three cabin lower accommodation plan, spacious galley below, and main deck with dining table. But then again being the innovative Azimut which has a usual history of leading in design, it was expected to give something more in this new 48, even tough based on a successful produced model.

Powerboat GPS - Como Grand Prix

Although the World title of the Powerboat GPS series finished in Siracusa a couple weeks ago, for this year we also decided to follow the ending of the European and Italian championship which was to be made in Como. Apart this race, all the other Grand Prix where held together with the World Championship, so being at it why not give you the result for the European and Italian titles too. This years European and Italian titles closing was to be decided in Como's legendary Centomiglia del Lario; One-Hundred Miles of Lario race which has formed heroes in Power boating many times in its history. This years World and European Champions 60 Metamarine driver Pennesi won it a couple years ago, and in the past we had heroes at the time and boat builders today as Abbate and Molinari take this legendary race. This years sixtieth edition had a total of 21 competitors in the various categories, ten of which come from the famed top Classes of Evolution only three competitors here, and Supersport with a good seven boats running. The race was held in the last September weekend on Saturday 25th, and Sunday 26.
Evolution
Only three competitors in this class but it was double glory for 88 SNAV Kiton. With this OSG racing team won the last two races of the Evolution class season, and take an Italian title. Double second for 66 Cranefields who continue to show the improved pace they showed in this last part of the season. 55 Ukrainian Spirit and the new for 2010 43 feet Chaudron did not finish race one, and ended race two in a last third place out of three competitors in this class. 60 Metamarine Foresti&Sguardi took the European title in advance in Siracusa, and did not need to participate in this race, which was a bit disappointing for the fans.
Supersport
In this category we had a total of seven competitors all challenging for the Italian Championship and four for the European title. A double victory was made by the Fountain of 81 Karelpiu which made this one of the best ever rookie season for the Naples based RG87 Racing Team. This double win, which makes a total of four top spots for 81 Karelpiu declared this Naples team as Italian and European 2010 champions. Second overall in the Como Grand Prix but taking two third places for the improving also rookie Ukrainian team but experienced 2009 World Champion boat of 43 Seagull Chaudron. A third for 38 Baia Attolini which take a second place on Saturday, and a sixth on Sunday. This result make them loose the chance of a European title and a double by just three points. Retirement on race one, and a second place on day two for the fast SV40 Outerlimits 22 Big Sergio of Team Al&Al. Fifth overall for the stern drive powered Donzi of 59 Chrisden. A sixth place for the double 2007 and 2008 World Champion Chaudron 41 feet of Racing project, who takes two fifth places. Last place for this nice looking but still very under performing diesel Zeta Elle boat of Di Cesare Riscaldamenti who takes a best sixth on Saturday, and a last seventh on Sunday.

Improve-it = Lazzara LSX78

The latest launch at Lazzara was an LSX78 painted in platinum color which featured some important improvements on this model which made its debut just about a year ago in October 2009. As you might know the 78 is the natural evolution of the 2006 launched 75. These latest additions showed the improvements which will be visible on the 2011 model years and will include; a foredeck seating arrangement with two cocktail tables, increased size of the aft deck, and a transom beach similar to that of the bigger LSX92. The improved forward seating area will maintain a forward sunpad but in addition to that gains an expansive seating group. For the aft deck the seating moves aft to accommodate a U-shaped seating group while still maintaining a sunpad. This also increases the aft deck in overall size giving you more room for entertainment too. In addition you will notice a beautifully crafted polished stainless steel and teak stairway going up to the flybridge. Lastly the transom beach feature Lazzara yachts made popular with the 92, is now available on the LSX78. This feature allows you to launch the tender and then convert the transom space into a great gathering and entertaining area. In addition the LSX78 also benefited from an increase in tender storage capacity to now include a larger private water craft of up twelve feet and a half or 3.80 metres in length.

New Model: Sunseeker 48 Portofino

Sharing an identical beam, and waterline lenght it is clear that the Sunseeker 48 Portofino is a derivation of the three years produced 47 model it replaces. This new Sunseeker hard top sport cruiser is also the first model from the Poole based British boat builder to be fully dedicated for Volvo IPS pods drives. I remind that the 47 had a choice of having shaft drive or Volvo pods. Would be interesting to know which sold the most of the two. This has given its benefits with the 48 Portofino having the much desired full beam owners stateroom with large side view windows. The guest cabin now moves to fore, and a clever scissor movement can also make this en-suited VIP develop into two single berths. The 48 Portofino has also an option to what regards its exterior main deck which also increases length by a foot in the optional version. The standard is a sun pad with garage underneath layout. But an optional replacement is a small sun lounger aft in replacement to the pad, high low bathing platform, and a longer C-shaped settee. This last main deck option increases overall length to over 52 feet. Power for the 48 Portofino is twin Volvo 435hp with IPS pod drives which gives a max speed of 32 knots.
