New Model: Maxi Dolphin MD70 Power

Since launching the Power line back in 2007 with the 51 model Maxi Dolphin has teased for larger units in project form, first with an MD61 in 2008, then a 65 in 2016, and last this MD70, which was announced in 2020 and launched just before Summer 2022.  For this new project Maxi Dolphin changes design duties to Francesco Rogantin, who brings similar lines to the smaller MD51 and 53 models as designed by Roberto Starkel. Honestly if this was not told I would have assumed Roberto Starkel designed the MD70, as it is near identical looking to the smaller MD's, with slight evolutionary differences at the stern. The interior of the first MD70, is designed by Nuvolari Lenard who presented a two double cabins; forward VIP and midships master stateroom, with a crew cabin sleeping two.  As in any Maxi Dolphin light weight plays a big role in the construction of the MD70, with a carbon fibre epoxy vacuum build followed by interiors made of Nomex sandwich with all this giving a light unloaded weight of just 33 tons.  The first Maxi Dolphin MD70 Power which will have support duties to a super yacht is fitted with twin Man 1300hp engines coupled to KaMeWa waterjets propulsion for top speeds up to 43 knots and a cruise of 34.

Project: Maxi Dolphin MD70 Power

Maxi Dolphin, the Italian shipyard founded in 1987 and managed by MD Technologies since 2016, is working on the construction for a new MD70, flagship for its MD Power line. The MD70 Power is a fast, luxury cruiser designed by the in-house Design Office together with Rogantin Studio in charge of the hull, and with Advanced Mechanical Solutions as far as structures are concerned.  Hull and deck are built using Maxi Dolphin’s signature technologies with pre-preg glass, carbon fibre, epoxy, vacuum laminated and post cured in the shipyard’s 40-meter oven. Interiors are lightweight and built in Nomex sandwich and pre-preg linen. The variable geometry hull was developed by CFD, focusing on the best sailing trim and seaworthiness. Propulsion is guaranteed by two Kamewa water jets and two MAN 1300hp, allowing for 40 knots and 37 knots of maximum and cruising speed respectively. The first MD70 Power is intended to act as a support boat for a super yacht, with a special interiors layout with an owner’s suite, a large living room complete with galley, an ample bathroom and a cabin accommodating two crew members. The boat’s deck plan also has a special configuration, while the standard Cruising version, in addition to the several Maxi Dolphin’s typical tailored interior solutions, features a deck plan aiming at living in close contact with the sea. The Cruising version also features a large sundeck aft of the cockpit, which is connected to an Opacmare’s platform. Forward there is a real living room with table and dinette, as well as a second sundeck.  The delivery of the new MD70 Power, which joins the other two models of the Maxi Dolphin’s Power range, the MD51 and the MD53, is scheduled for the 2021 summer.

New Model: Maxi Dolphin Tender Nauta 48

Maxi Dolphin Tender Nauta 48 is a one off custom build, unique in its genre for looks to serve as a chase boat for a super yacht.  Designed by Nauta Design, the Tender Nauta 48 design brief was for a chase boat with usage going from scouting anchorages, entering in harbours restricting the bigger vessel by draft, and last for occasional cruises by the owner. The coolness of the Maxi Dolpin Tender Nauta 48 is the exterior, looking as a chase boat of the coast guard.  Look into detail and the luxury pedigree will show up.  Still this is a sport cruiser full of thought out design details such as the minimum draft of less to one meter thanks to jet drives, and a spacious cockpit designed for entertaining, a rubber fender all around to make.  Interior accommodation is for a master cabin, with a cabins cabin, and a spacious galley utility room.  The forte of the Tender Nauta 48 is the spacious exterior cockpit with two aft looking sunpads, and two C-shaped dinette.  Maxi Dolphin Tender Nauta is powered by twin Cummins 600hp which allow her to reach top speeds up 38 knots.

Project: Maxi Dolphin 48 Tender

New order for the Maxi Dolphin boatyard in Erbusco, Brescia for a 48 feet tender boat designed by Nauta Yachts currently being built and completed at the boatyard. An enrichment and enhancement of the boatyard’s experience in the field of motor yachts, the idea behind the Maxi Dolphin 48 Tender project is a fast support sport cruiser for a super yacht of major dimensions.  The 48 Tender will feature a soft and continuous fender line for protection, facilitating the docking at the mother boat.  The exterior design has been inspired by an aesthetic appeal recalling work boats. The tender actually appears to be a patrol boat, yet is distinguished by elegant lines that are in perfect harmony with the essence of a virtually navy and likewise handy boat.  The cockpit has been designed for living the sea with two large stern sun decks, and two adjoining symmetrically arranged living spaces with tables in the hard-top protected area, which can be lowered to create additional sun-protected relaxing spaces. This area is directly connected to the efficient and cutting-edge bridge with front glazing enabling high visibility even in case of night-time navigation.  The below-deck layout provides a comfortable master cabin at bow with en-suite bathroom, a kitchen as well as a sailor guest cabin with private services. The both elegant and cosy style has been enhanced by the use of distinctive materials such as resin-bonded laminated linen for the ceilings, and for kitchen and bath tops.  Power will come from twin 600hp Cummins engines with Kamewa water-jets propulsion.  Design predicted top speed is of 38 knots.

Project: Maxi Dolphin MD65 Power

A further evolution of the MD61 project, Maxi Dolphin's MD65 aims to bring the open yacht virtues of the well received MD51 into larger sizes.  Designed as the 51 by Roberto Starkel, the 65 adds comfort to the package of the smaller models with a spacious standard three double cabins interior being key to some of the pluses of the larger size.  A crew cabin will be located at midships.  An optional layout will also feature two large staterooms with two large cabins, and the owners room moving to midships.  Standard power for the MD65 will come from twin 900hp Volvo engines with the large IPS1200 pod drives, this giving max speeds of 40 knots.  Optional choices will come from Man 1200hp and MTU 1360hp both these units coming with Arneson surface drives propulsion.

Improve-it = Maxi Dolphin MD51 Power

Maxi Dolphin launches a new improved version of the MD51 Power. This sport yacht is once again the expression of the Maxi Dolphin philosophy to build custom projects suited to the clients needs. Here it combines the designer style typical of its range with advanced technological research resulting in a unique sport yacht. This new version has also the capability to handle all electric, electronic and infotainment systems through an Apple i-Pad, which is located on the noticeable central aileron radar arch. But this improved MD51 Power achieves a lot more by reviewing some of the components, such as: carbon inserts on the boat sides, that set off the metallic light blue paint of the hull; windscreen extended to aft, offering extra protection; air outlet grills on the transom enlarged, to underline the power of the craft; prow with integrated Led navigation lights and the drive seat turned into a one place capsule. The interior arrangement is an open space; with many details and parts in carbon fibre like the companionway’s steps, skirting boards, washbasin and centre table enhancing this sport yacht look. Power for this sophisticated open sport yacht is twin Volvo 435hp with IPS forward looking dual propeller drives propulsion giving a max speed of 38 knots.

The interior layout reflects the day cruiser concept of the MD 53: one cabin, two heads and a dinette with galley. New Model: Maxi Dolphin MD51 Cruiser

Maxi Dolphin MD 51 Cruiser is a new version which complements the first sport yacht from this normally custom sailing boat builder. With the MD 51 Cruiser, Maxi Dolphin integrates and completes the layout of the boat. The MD 51 Cruiser builds on the formula of the Power version but is designed with more thought to offer better comfort and a live ability at sea. This version has in fact two large cabins instead of one, a crew cabin, absent in the tender version, and two bathrooms. The dinette is very spacious with contrasting combinations in carbon, floor-boards, leather and teak. Moreover, in the cockpit seats can convert into a spacious sundeck, with possible optional internal housing for a tender which was not possible to include in the original layout. The MD51 is also available with hard top as pictured above, this option also available on the standard Power version. Obviously the new MD51 Cruiser keeps on the unique build quality of its more aggressive sister with a carbon Kevlar fiberglass construction which gives superior strength and lightness.

Project: Maxi Dolphin 61 Power Evolution

The Maxi Dolphin 61 Power Evolution is an innovative project, natural forward step of the 51 Power model presented in 2007. First rendering designs for the new bigger Power model show similar contemporary line as for the 51 model, with a classic American picnic boat influence. Propulsion for the new 61 Power Evolution will be a more speed orientated surface drives system, giving the best usually for a 40 knots plus performance. Interior accommodation details have not yet been submitted but the side port hole windows make you imagine for a loft style interior with a spacious owners cabin mid ship.
