New Model: Dale 35 Classic

Dale presents the new 35 Classic, which truly perfectly illustrates the way of approaching a truly bespoke build as desired by its owner.  The 35 Classic is a boat that started from a meeting between the British builder, owner and a blank sheet of paper! Everything from the keel up has been designed to suit his brief of a top performing day boat with accommodation for a tall family who wish to overnight occasionally.  Finally completed hull one of the Dale 35 Classic shows the real meaning of the word semi-custom as every material, color, detail has been carefully matched to the owner’s requirements, whilst the very finest standards of hull construction, fit out and finish will of course left up to the Dale heritage.

Abati Yachts New Web Site

Abati Yachts presents its new web site. Abati was founded in 2004 by Andrea Abati and Alessandro Patrizi.  Abati was started as Patrizi was looking for his own boat and choose a lobster looking traditional cruiser from Austin Parker, and its 42 model. Hearing in a later stage that Austin Parker was in financial trouble decides to take over the premises in Rosignano Marittimo, Livorno but to leave the brand name to the ownership mostly because his idea is to build bigger boats and yachts.  Austin Parker debuts with the 55 Portland in 2005, a very classic looking outside traditional yacht, with an innovative layout which featured separate entrance to the three cabins from the main deck, which is still a unique feature in its size today. The second Abati the 46 Newport arrives the following year, with this model taking a more modern approach to its looks and layout.  What goes around come round and in 2012 Abati is purchased by the Austin Parker ownership as led by Michele Parini, presenting the first new 60 Keyport model of the new management this 2014 year.  Today Abati builds four models; 46 Newport, 55 Portland, 58 Eastport, and its new 60 Keyport flagship. The new Abati Yacht virtual showroom is available in English and Italian language and takes you around with the following buttons; Shipyard, Press Room, News and Events, Dealers Networks, Catalogues, and Contacts.

Project: Dominator D26 M Ilumen

Since Wolfgang Pernsteiner took over Dominator, the company has been making important forward movements to become the elite yacht builder. Now in recent days Dominator has been showing this innovative D26 M Ilumen project on the background of its website. Designed by Alessandro Mancini the D26 M Ilumen seems a break through innovative project from Domintor not only in the looks, layout, but also in the technical side. Dominator will be giving full details of this project during the Cannes show, but as an appetizer I can tell you that the D26 M Ilumen will feature an innovative power system with four modes, a master cabin forward on the main deck with 270 degrees views, and one of the largest flybridge in its size. At this stage we can only say to Dominator to bring the D26M Ilumen on, that is from project to reality.

New Model: Canados Oceanic 90 STS

Its exciting times in Rome in Italy, and at Cantieri Navali di Ostia who launch hull one of its new explorer Oceanic Yachts line. To be exact Canados launch the Oceanic 90 STS, which sold in January of this year. Among the amenities offered by this first yacht is an upper deck owner’s stateroom with private terrace, while a VIP plus two guest cabins are located on the lower deck. The interior decoration is a result of a study undertaken by the in-house design studio in conjunction with the owner. The primary timbers used throughout will consist of limed Grey Oak, Macassar Ebony, WengĂ©, lacquered wood and wood floors. The convertible aft deck, with over-sized modular sofas, will stow a 6.50m diesel powered SACS tender while two three seat personal water-crafts, two Seabobs and one JetLev will be stored in the transom garage. An additional stand-up JetSki will be installed on the deck, right under the 1.5 ton capacity Opacmare crane. The engine room will be buffered from the lower deck amenities by a spectacular sound insulation system engineered like on a fifty meter yacht and the by the vast crew quarters and custom made galley. As the Canados Oceanic Yachts production 90 hull number one maintains the brand-new philosophy whose main features are: extended outdoor and indoor living volumes, ability to carry large toys and tenders, high performance and ability to navigate at economic speed with low fuel consumption, resulting in reduced overall operating costs.  The  Canados Oceanic 90 STS has also the option to be offered in the DiElec version, which stands for Diesel-Electric propulsion. It is a true innovation of the Oceanic range. In this version, the 90' can run either on its two Caterpillar 1925hp engines for speeds up to 27 knots, or alternately, on its two electric motors fed by the two generators. Under Electric power, the 90 STS can run at 8 knots with a consumption in the region of 40 liters per hour.

Improve-it = Princess V39

Princess show again why their success have soured in recent years, by presenting a new cockpit version for the successful V39 which earlier this year has delivered in over one hundred plus of units, in a production run over two years. The new Princess V39 will now have an option for its exterior deck, with the choice to order it with an aft sun-pad. The well sized sun pad has been made to enter into the current layout and takes a small portion from the C-shaped settee to port side, with the aft end taking overhang space, about two feet into the bathing platform.  This new option from Princess on the V39 shows the Plymouth British boat builder attention to warmer climate regions as the Mediterranean and the Caribbean.

Project: Steeler NG50 CS

The CS is the latest version of the Steeler NG50. This CS letter mean center sleeper, and this model has been developed for owners prefering a central midships stateroom to a master room forward. The result is a yacht with three double cabins all served with heads. Two en-suite for the owners and VIP cabins, and a guest day head shower located to starboard. Interesting is that the guest day head and shower features two separates doors. The pilothouse in the CS is also longer than in the NG50, which creates a spacious lounge with an integrated galley. It goes without saying that the client has the freedom to choose the layout, and it is possible to opt for a kitchen and dinette in the fore section. The clearance of the Steeler NG50 CS is just 3.35m, so the French canals remain easily accessible.

The 75 Yacht is the second model to follow the much sought after 28 Metre Yacht flybridge design features which integrate a very beefy full radar arch or hard top seemingly in the top deck, and add a dark paint warping the lower windshield. The 75 Yacht features Sunseeker latest larger then large side windows. The interior is a four double room layout for guests. A crew cabin sleeping two is located aft. Project: Elandra 5

The Elandra 5 is the new project and boat brand to come from down under Australia. While being a totally new brand the founders of Elandra have long been in the business of boat building, and come to the market with an interesting sport yacht, which makes semi-customization, sea keeping, and a strong build quality its trade marks. Designed by Tom Barry-Cotter the Elandra 5 will follow what most new sport cruisers are offering in recent years; a lower deck dedicated to the cabins, and a main for living.  The lower cabin deck of the Elandra 5 offers three cabins, with an owners midships full beam room, and a VIP cabin forward which surprises for its space with the double berth looking to the starboard of the ship offering added leg room. The main deck of the Elandra 5 is a split level living area, which joins outside with inside.  A tender garage with a space for a jet rib and an easy launch system is featured aft.

New Model: Back Cove 41

It's been something of a surprise when the 41 was announced considering that a criteria for all of Back Cove line of Traditional down East inspired cruisers is for a single engine installation. But a year later to the project presentation Back Cove launched the 41, who even in design stages showed a high client interest with four orders coming from the renderings. As it stands hull one was launched in early 2014 just in time for the Miami boat show. The 41 is a spacious cruiser with a two double cabins twin head lower deck, and a main deck which serves as both living and entertainment areas joined together. Galley is to port side, with a C-shaped double duty dinette settee opposite. To fore starboard is the helm station, which also features a side door giving direct access to the side deck. Class One - Vee One - Mediterranean Grand Prix Race Two

Victory and Chaudron produced the stand-out performances of the afternoon and dominated race 2 of the Mediterranean Grand Prix, cruising to emphatic victories in their respective classes in a dramatic race that was red flagged after Abu Dhabi crashed out at the first corner, both Faleh AL Mansoori and Rashed Al Tayer emerging unscathed from the upturned boat.
It was a bitter blow for Al Mansoori and Al Tayer on their debut Grand Prix outing in their new boat, and after going second quickest in qualifying earlier in the day were running in second spot behind Victory at the first turn when they hooked and went over.
The boats were led round under the yellow flag and from the restart Victory’s Arif Al Zaffain and Nadir Bin Hendi dropped the hammer and simply disappeared off into the distance and were unchallenged throughout to take the win and complete a perfect weekend in Ibiza for the Dubai duo on their first outing together in Class 1 since 2011.
Ugur Isik and Christian Zaborowski produced another solid performance and despite breaking two gearboxes over the weekend picked up another podium finishing in second place, with Guido Cappellini and Mikhail Kitashev on their first outing together also picking up a second podium, with third.
It was a frustrating and disappointing day for Fendi Racing, with Luca Fendi and Giovanni Carpitella failing to make the start after breaking their gearbox yesterday, and any hopes of team success faded early when Tarek Oktem and Miles Jennings limped back to the pits before the restart.
The honours in V1 went to Aaron Ciantar and Dominic Martini in Chaudron who, like Victory, left their rivals in their wake to win unchallenged over the 12 laps, taking the chequered flag with the chasing pack well in arrears, finishing on the same lap as the C1 boats ahead of them to take an early lead in the Championship standings.
Second home was Karelpiu, the team switching driver for race 2 with Federico Montanari teaming -up with Antonio Schiano. The duo held off a strong challenge from Aquasport on lap 3 as the two outfits thundered through the start-finish line side-by-side and then from a momentarily advancing Tommy One.
The drive off the afternoon belonged to Drew Langdon and Ian Blacker in Silverline who found good pace mid race, moving up from sixth spot on lap 2, passing Bernico-New Star and overhauling Aquasport and Tommy One on lap 7 to take the third step of the podium.

Project: Kadey-Krogen 66

Kadey-Krogen has recently presented a new important project of four explorer yachts which sets the sights of the American manged company into a bigger size series of models. All designed by Dave Glasco and the in-house design team, this new Kadey-Krogen line of projects is a very important one as it presents four distinctive models; 64 Expedition, 66, 68 Expedition, and 70. An 80 is currently is advanced project stages. The 66 will offer three different lower deck options; with the main difference coming from a plan which replaces the third cabin into a storage room. The main deck is also offered in three different configurations. Twin engine powered the Kadey-Krogen will feature a sea-worthy long range full displacement hull shape and long range fuel tank capacity of over 10977 liters.

The Gamefisherman 42 Walk-Around Sportfisherman features as the title says full use of its deck space. Two options exist outside, a more angler set up with tower as pictured above, or a hard top plus riggers choice. Below is a layout with a V-shaped double berth to fore, shower head to starboard, and galley opposite to port side.  Weighing at under eight tons in light mode the Gamefisherman 42 Walk-Around Sportfisherman reaches top speeds of forty knots with twin Cats 575hp engines.

Class One - Vee One - Mediterranean Grand Prix Race One

Thirteen boats lined up for the first race in over two decades with Class 1 catamarans and V1 mono-hulls running side-by-side, with Arif Al Zaffain and Nadir Bin Hendi carrying on from where they left off and last raced together in 2011, cruising to an easy victory in race 1 of the Mediterranean Grand Prix to win by a massive 49 second margin.
The Victory duo who earlier in the day shared the pole position spoils with LFF10, led from the start and were never challenged, going on to complete the 13 laps in 35:41.85s.
Despite matching the winners in qualifying Luca Fendi and Giovanni Carpitella could not match the sustained pace of the leader’s, but looked comfortable in second spot when they suddenly hit trouble on lap 9 and stopped.
From third place at the end of lap 1 Guido Cappellini and C1 rookie Mikhail Kitashev held off an initial challenge from Ugur Isik and Christian Zaborowski in Relekta-Zabo-Isiklar before opening out a comfortable advantage to move into and take second spot following the exit of LFF10.
The Relekta-Zabo-Isiklar crew in turn faced a race long challenge from Faleh Al Mansoori and Rashed Al Tayer in Team Abu Dhabi’s new MTI, who passed them on the final lap to take the chequered flag in third, only to be hit with a 25-second post-race penalty for destroying a turn buoy, handing the podium spot back to Isiklar and Zaborowski, the Abu Dhabi duo dropping to fifth behind LFF8-Polimersan.
The performance of the day came in V1 from the Tommy One crew of Maurizio Schepici and Stefano Bonanno who powered their way through the field from a long way back in fourth spot, first passing Bernico-New Star, then the early race leader’s Chaudron before setting their sights on and overhauling the pole sitters Antonio and Giuseppe Schiano in Karelpiu, to take the win in 36:33.39s.

Magnum Marine New Web Site

Magnum Marine presents its new web site.  Magnum was started up in 1966 Miami, Florida and was the third of the half a dozen fast-power-boat builders founded in the sixties and seventies by Don Aronow. For the record Donald Aronow was the creator of the famed Thunderboat Row in Miami where Magnum is still located, and his other founded companies are Formula in 1961, Donzi in 1964, Cigarette in 1970, and Aronow Powerboats in the eighties and all his companies revolved around the deep vee underwater shaped hull for the most part designed by Jim Wynne and Walt Walters. The Aronow hull Jim Wynne design was similar in concept to the Ray Hunt 1958 deep-Vee, but evolved the design to more high performances. In 1968 Don sold Magnum to Apeco, and eight years later in 1976 Marchese Filippo Theodoli took over Magnum from the US firm to transform its legacy into a status symbol sport yacht builder. Filippo Theodoli idea was to keep with the super fast sea worthy deep vee 24 degrees hull add to it a bullet proof construction, and the luxurious comfort associated of a yacht fifteen meters or more in size. The Italian vision was complete a year later presenting the first and largest open Sport Yacht over fifteen meter of the times with the Magnum 53 Maltese in 1977, which subsequently was delivered in over fifty examples in a production run lasting till 1995. Following the 53, the Magnum of Theodoli continued to present other cruisers; the 45 and 40 and in 1984 it continued to push the sport yacht size limit presenting the 63 Sports with lines by Pininfarina, in 1989 the 70 also by Pininfarina, and the 80 again at the hands of the Italian firm in 2000. Driven by Filippo Theodoli the 63 went on to do the impossible by winning the Miami Nassau Miami for three times in a row with a diesel powered sport yacht, reaching speeds over eighty mph, and beating smaller faster boats thanks to its consistent speed in rough waters. Filippo died in 1990, and today Magnum is managed by wife Katrin, and son Giovanni who produce a limited customized two boats a year of the current six models from 44 to 100 feet. The flagship of the range the 100 is currently in planning stages, with the current largest Magnum still being the 80, which was delivered in two units so far. New Model: Overmarine Mangusta 165 E

The latest Overmarine Mangusta 165 hull no. 9 is the very latest example of evolution and the perfect combination of comfort and speed.  There are a number of important technological innovations on this yacht as well as improvements in performance, including a new propulsion system with quadruple MTU 2600hp engines, 4 Rolls Royce Kamewa NP waterjets and 4 Seakeeper stabilisers. This driving system has an excellent weight/power ratio, as the engines are lighter than the previous ones and so there is less weight in movement when the yacht is at sea. These last generation engines are also more efficient and have a modular functionality. The waterjets are also stronger as the design has been renewed in order to offer a better performance at lower consumption. The result is that this yacht can reach similar speeds as in the past but consumes less: 35% less at 20 and 30 knots. The optimised layout in the engine room has provided the space to install 4 stabilizers for improving stabilization when the yacht is both at anchor and under way: 50% less rolling with half metre waves. Efficiency has also been improved meaning sailing is very comfortable at low speeds, too. Each and every owner can really decide whether to sail at high speeds or 20/30 knots with good drive efficiency and greater efficiency of consumption, without however, ever having to renounce to being comfortable on-board. This yacht is proof of the shipyard’s continuous evolution, but also of its ability to understand the market and anticipate client demand. Greater opportunities for this successful model, which can now also be proposed in the E evolution version with a number of external aesthetic features, most meaningful and recognizable being the window profile design of the deck house.

Project: Custom Line 28 Navetta

Ferretti presents the project for a new Custom Line 28 Navetta, a model which will replace the 26 as entry level of the semi displacement line. Designed as all Ferretti Custom Line by the usual Zuccon and the Group's Advanced Yacht Technology department cooperation the 28 Navetta will make its debut in the coming Cannes 2014 boat show.  For this model Giovanni Zuccon gave the 28 Navetta a more explorer yacht look, thanks to the higher bow, mid-ship reverse sheer line, a triple-deck design which makes fuller use of the upper floor, and the sun bridge up top.  The 28 Navetta also comes with two important innovations; patented dual mode transom, and the innovative RINA Italian registry certified 1.4 square meters view windows in the lower deck for the cabins produced with Amaregroup. The patented dual mode transom made in collaboration with Besenzoni makes the 28 Navetta stand out for two important items; largest bathing platform beach space of nine square meters in its size and tender garage for up to 4.45 meters.  Goes without saying that easy hauling is the word for the tender launch and recovery and there is no need for any davit in doing this operation thanks to the mechanism of the flood-able garage.  Accommodation wise the 28 Navetta will offer five guest cabins with an owners room on the main deck. Three similar sized VIP rooms; two at midships and one to port side characterize the standard layout. The 28 Navetta also has two options for the main deck; with the main difference of the plans being the astern bar to starboard in plan B. Engine wise the Ferretti Custom Line 28 Navetta will be powered by twin MAN 1200hp engines, which give a top speed of 16 knots, 13 of cruise and long range of 1250 nautical miles at an economic 10 knots.  The 28 Navetta is also a step ahead in the construction and will be fully infusion built, use special sun resistant materials for the final paint finish, and has a high attention for the sound proofing of the vessel to guarantee maximum silence during navigation.

New Model: Viking 75 Motor Yacht

It was an important Summer in New Jersey at the Viking factory first for celebrating its first important half a century, second for presenting a new model line up for this fall which will feature four new models and include a new 92 feet flagship and the re-entry into the yacht segment. The most prolific of all the medium sized builders has finally decided to return to the yacht market since 1995, but in reality the new 75 is a completely new breed and unlike its previous nineteen year ancestors challenges European design to the max. The new 75 Motor Yacht features all latest coming from Europe; as the fore deck settee, up and down bathing platform, and one of the best layouts for a 23 meter motor yacht, both above and below deck. It is just a pity that hull one will feature a more US enclosed bridge, as I am sure an open flybridge version would have enticed a few European buyers in Fort Lauderdale coming this fall. The Viking 75 Motor Yacht surprises for space, layout, and technical sides, on paper it looks to have a lot going for it. The main deck has abundance of space; saloon, dining table, standard open plan galley, passenger dinette forward and a day head. Below will be four double guest cabins, with an owners stateroom located amidships. Aft is space for two crew cabins which sleep four and share a head. On the technical side Viking points out that the new 75 Motor Yacht will feature a totally new hull shape which will be performing and in line with the very high standards sport fish yachts usually require. Hull one pictured above will be powered by the largest of the options of twin 1925hp Cat engines which Viking estimates will give top speeds in the medium thirties.

Project: Jeanneau 36 Leader

Jeanneau presents the project for a new 36 Leader, which follows the exterior looks and much boasted hull shape of the larger 40.  Indeed like the 40 the new 36 Leader features a superb V-shaped hull designed by renowned American naval architect Micheal Peters, and a sporty design by the Garroni Designers. The exterior of the 36 Leader features a sofa, a double sundeck, a spacious saloon, while for the interior Jeanneau decided to innovate boasting a layout, with an  unexpected two-and-a-half volumes.  By day, the interior saloon is a spacious, entirely open living area with impressive sea views, while by night, the owner's cabin converts into a magnificent suite with bar and sofa.  In an effort to bring you a unique level of comfort at sea, Jeanneau has incorporated a separate shower stall, as well as three berths, in the aft cabin. These are just some of the clever features that make the 36 Leader unique in this size of sport cruiser. The 36 Leader will be powered by a three engine choice; two Volvo diesel 260 and 300hp, and petrol gas from Mercury of 300hp.

New Model: Hinckley T43

It is a totally new Hinckley, the T43 represents the way forward for the down East Rhode Island located highly estimated boat builder. The designers at Hinckley with the new T43 where thinking to increase space and designed a wider boat compared to the three inches longer T44, thanks to an extra foot of beam. She is a two cabin, one en-suite one guest shower head below traditional cruiser, with the focus being on the entertainment area of the main deck. The galley on the T43 is located on the forward port side of the main deck, adjacent to the helm station opposite. An important detail of the T43 will be the touch of a button disappearing enclosure which splits the outside from the inside when closed, and unites them when open. In the new T43 we see Hinckley continue its support to water jet propulsion, but also its recent added choice of Volvo IPS pods.  Engine is a standard 550hp Cummins with Hamilton water jet, and optional Volvo 435hp with IPS pod drives. Speed estimates are for a max of 34 knots.

Project: Hatteras 45 Express

This project announcement from Hatteras came as a big surprise to me and brand fans alike. Hatteras has not gone sub fifty feet for quite some time, and its last model produced shorter to this size was the 43 Convertible Series II which ended production in March 1998. The Hatteras 45 Express will change this, and sees the legendary Carolina brand return sub fifty after sixteen years, with an express which outside seems to be based a lot on the Cabo 44 to what regards the looks.  The interior has a different layout and will be available with two options; single or two cabin layouts. The single cabin version features a large double size C-shaped settee.  Outside Hatteras is also offering two options; fully tournament sportfish rigged with tower, as will be hull one, or a more cruiser friendly version.  Hatteras also announced that they are already working on a 52 Express. The Hatteras 45 Express will launch and be presented in end October during the Fort Lauderdale boat show.

Class One - Vee One - 2014 Season Preview

The Spanish Island of Ibiza is all set to host the heavyweights of world powerboat racing when they take to the waters off Playa D’en Bossa for the Mediterranean Grand Prix on 5-7 September.
For the first time in over two decades catamarans and monohulls will race alongside each other in the UIM Class 1 and V1 World Powerboat Championships, with an anticipated 14-boats lining up as the revised new-look Championships format debuts in Ibiza and Class 1 returns to Spanish waters for the first time since 2006.
CLASS-ONE
Defending and six-time Class 1 World Champion Arif Al Zaffain reignites his formidable partnership with Nadir Bin Hendi as the Victory duo start their title campaign and go in search of the Dubai-based teams 14th crown and look to extend its seven-year Championship winning streak.
Back together in Class 1 for the first time in two years, Al Zaffain and Bin Hendi will be intent on a winning start and adding to their impressive strike-rate, winning 20 times from 28 outings to clinch three World and Middle East titles and a European and Pole Position Championship in three years.
Looking to unseat them will be last year’s Championship runners-up Ugur Isik and Christian Zaborowski in Relekta-Zabo-Isiklar. After considerable modifications to the boat and further work on the Mercury engines the team is confident that it can challenge for the title as the Turkish-Norwegian pairing goes in search of that elusive first win together that they so narrowly missed out on in Italy last year, to complement their multiple podium finishes.
Also looking for their first win together is the all Italian pairing of Luca Formilli Fendi and Giovanni Carpitella in Fendi Racing’s number one boat LFF10. Throttleman Carpitella strongly believes that with the problems they faced last year now fully resolved they too can challenge unhindered as front runners and improve on last season’s five podiums.
A revised line up in the second Fendi outfit LFF8-Polimersan sees defending European Champion Miles Jennings switching seats to take the throttles with Tarik Oktem coming in to drive, both Fendi boats running SCAM V12s.
Team Abu Dhabi retains the same line up that ended last year with a double podium at their home Grand Prix, with Faleh Al Mansoori and three time race-winner Rashed Al Tayer launching their challenge in a new Randy Scism designed and built MTI and switching from V12 to Mercury V8 power-plants.
Making a welcome return to frontline racing after opting not to compete in 2013 but to manage his team from the side lines is ten-time F1H2O World Champion Guido Cappellini, whose collaboration with entrepreneur Andrey Kitashev marks the debut of Russia into the Championship, with Mikhail Kitashev stepping up and in to take the throttles beside Cappellini in the DAC 40 Mercury powered Newstar-Poliform.
FA.RO. ACCIAI is expected to complete the Class 1 line-up but the team is yet to reveal who will race.
VEE-ONE
The news of the combined Championships drew an immediate and positive response with seven teams from across Europe signing up to race in V1.
Two entries from Italy sees Evolution and Super Sport Champions Maurizio Schepici and Marco Pennesi teaming-up in the Metamarine, Seatek-powered Tommy One, with father-son pairing of Antonio and Giuseppe Schiano, who lifted the Super Sport European and Italian Championships in 2010, returning to racing after a three year absence in the Mercury-powered Fountain 42, Karelpiu RG-87, which will carry the colours and flag of the Circolo Canottieri Napoli (Naples Rowing Club) which this year celebrates its centenary.
Team owner-driver Siegfried Greve who finished second and third overall in the Endurance Championship in 2011 and 2010 heads up German outfit Searex Racing’s challenge alongside countryman Udo Gross in the Searex built, Searex-engined Hercules Sagemann.
Aaron Ciantar will again put the Chaudron powerboat brand firmly in the international spotlight when he lines up alongside 2011 French Champion Dominique Martini in the 13-metre Chaudron Canopy 41.
Ciantar, 34 from Malta, will be targeting a fourth world title to add to the two he won in Super Sport in 2008 and 2009, and the title he won in the Key West Championship in America in 2011 in the same boat he will race in Ibiza.
The UK challenge is led by Bullet Racing’s hugely experienced Drew Langdon racing with fellow-brit Ian Blacker in the Fountain 42, Express Marine powered Silverline. A former European and British Endurance Champion, Langdon kicks off his campaign and will be aiming to break his World title near misses, finishing second in the Endurance Championship in 2009 and second in Super Sport in 2007, 2005 and 2004.
Two entries from Belgium sees Aquasport’s Nico Huybens teaming-up with Briton Daniel Cramphorn and Bernico-Newstar yet to finalise who will race alongside Nico Bertels.
The teams take to the water for first practice on Friday [5 September] morning followed by official qualifying at 14.45hrs [local]. Saturday morning practice is followed by race 1 at 15.30hrs, with a final morning practice session and qualifying for race 2 at 15.30hrs on Sunday.

Project: Storm S-65

Storm Yachts from the Netherlands continues to fill its line up with interesting distinctive models. The S-65 is the third in a line-up which starts and with the just launched X-53 and expands up to one hundred feet. The X-65 model which is currently in construction in Holland features a fast displacement hull and is to be available in two different versions; wheelhouse and fly-bridge option.  The flybridge version adds an extra open air lounge up top plus a second helm station. Interior wise the S-65 will have a three double cabins with one of the largest owners midships stateroom in this size. She will be built of aluminum and features the patented FDFH hull. New Model: Frauscher 747 Mirage

Following an exclusive premiere hosted by Feltrinelli the Italian Frauscher importer in June 2014 on Lake Garda, the new stylish day cruiser from the Austrian Shipyard is now ready for her official launch at the international market. Given the great success encountered last year with the 858 Fantom, Frauscher Shipyard decided to reconfirm the same designers, willing to bet once more on this award winning team. For the 747 Mirage as well, Harry Miesbauer was in charge of the hydrodynamics, while the whole design project has been followed by the renowned Austrian studio Kiska, who gave the 747 Mirage a unique and unforgettable style, managing to perfectly balance elements from Frauscher’s traditional design with new super-car inspired features. Thanks to a deep Vee hull, and long water line the 747 Mirage‘s performance perfectly matches her looks, putting its top speed at 56 knots with the large Mercury 430hp petrol gas engine.

Coming Back

Before the recession and some states going crazy on yachts with controls and extra taxes there was a few quality brands around which got a lot of recognition for building nice cruisers and yachts, with some of these unfortunately closing the doors.  With things improving slowly in the last year we are seeing some of these brands return. Some are coming with a new ownership, others are re-opening with the old management or part of back in the helm.
It was a boom period up until 2008 and suddenly the market deflated in some months. To add fuel to fire, some primary yacht states; Italy and Spain at the fore front started running after money from yachts. You can understand at the time how in the best of times it all turned sour to the medium and small sized companies. Especially those who where investing to become bigger, better, and a more global brand. I am sure very few would not have done the way up, considering the order books of some builders in between 2005 and 2008.
Some of the returning brands are saying that the current market is a shy improving one, with the most of the clientele asking for a quality medium sized craft sub fifteen meter. The yacht size between fifty and eighty fee is still in nowhere land, that is unless one is a global brand and is very strong in the North American market.

Monthly News - August 2014

Benetti Biggest Yacht in Cannes

Ocean Paradise is a 55 meters in aluminum and steel and it based on a consolidated and tested Benetti platform, yet rich with innovative contents, especially with regards to partitioning, interior design, decor and fitting out. With Ocean Paradise, Benetti gives further proof of their second to none capability in interpreting and adapting to Owner's requests. Many elements make this yacht an example of custom avant-garde solutions: from the furnishings to the highly elaborate illumination plan, with the use of novel architectural solutions and the combination of both transparent and opaque materials that emphasize the traditional relationship with the sea, or a more contemporary look and feel, as required. All this is coordinated and managed by BEST(Benetti Exclusive Sea Technology), the proven domotic system adopted by the yard aboard several vessels and very much appreciated by Owners and crew. The Benetti Ocean Paradise was also conceived to fulfill the specific need of the charter activities, but despite this is characterized by several notable one of a kind elements, such as the designer's research for solutions that guarantee communication between adjacent environments and especially with the sea, even while relaxing in the main saloon or lunch area. This was obtained by the intense study and development of the height of the opaque elements, and the adoption of Plexiglas and crystal materials, with the absence of bulwarks in the floor to ceiling windows in the salon. Minimalist, but never cold, and always connected with the sea: these were some of the guidelines given by the Owner for the development of this project. The Benetti team of interior and exterior designers interpreted the desires of the Owner, bringing it to an ideal fruition from both the technical and aesthetic/functional points of view.

The veteran offshore throttleman began racing with his wife last year in the P1 SuperStock series and have had a roller-coaster-like season in 2014.Last month in Tampa, the pair started strong winning the pole position in a drag-style qualifying round, only to be plagued by gremlins during racing. Overmarine Mangusta in Cote D'Azur

The official inauguration of the Overmarine Group branch office in the CĂ´te d’Azur was held last 31st July. Many people and Mangusta lovers attended the event, celebrating together with the managers of the company the new important and exclusive location. The new office is strategically located in Port Rayon, Golf Juan, nearby Cannes. All guests had the opportunity to admire a yacht of the Mangusta 105 series that was docked in front of the office. Opening this new office in the CĂ´te d'Azur is part of the work of strengthening the brand and strategic consolidation which is leading the Group to preside directly over strategic markets such as the United States and France. Mr Welch said both dealerships achieved the highest sales results across the Australia/New Zealand dealer network and deserved to be equally recognised for this achievement. R Marine Sydney’s dealer principal Michael Joyce commended his team for their positive attitude and continued commitment to the Riviera and Belize brands. The Service Excellence by a Dealership award was presented to one of Riviera’s newest dealers, R Marine Mandurah, located about 72 kilometres south of Perth, who over the past 18 months established a reputation for high quality service within their local boating community. Sun Reef Reinforces Position in the Middle East

Reflecting the growing interest in Sunreef Yachts in the Middle East, the company has announced their expansion into Bahrain - as a subsequent phase of the company’s plans for GCC expansion. After the 3 month presence of 70 Sunreef Power DAMRAK II in the Middle East, the shipyard decided to open in 2013 the first office in Dubai (UAE) which was the key step in spreading the brand and product awareness in this area. At the beginning of 2014 the company presented the most outstanding luxurious catamaran models including 90 Sunreef Power and Sunreef 165 ULTIMATE at the Kuwait Yacht Show and Dubai International Boat Show. Furthermore in March 2014 Sunreef Yachts organized a series of exclusive events held in 4 locations in the Gulf region during which the futuristic trimaran concept 210 Power Trimaran was presented - with 64 m in length and almost 1000 m2 living space that makes it the biggest vessel of this type on the market. The hightened interest of the local customers was certainly a reason for the opening of the new local office in Bahrain. Surrounded by the crystalline waters of the Persian Gulf, with a rich industry and relaxed cultural rules, "The Kingdom of the two Seas" is a fertile environment for the sale of Sunreef catamarans. At the same time, the Bahrain office will be a portal in which Sunreef Yachts will be able to showcase itself on the broad Middle East yachting market. The company`s vision is to fulfill a gap in the GCC's leisure marine market with truly unique luxury catamarans, offering much more than typical monohulls - ideal stability, exquisite custom luxury design, incredible space on board, speed, long range and low fuel consumption. The Sunreef Yachts business in Bahrain will be headed by Anna Nowotarska who is with the shipyard more than 5 years now.

Viking Summer Chores

While many Viking employees are taking advantage of the August plant vacation week, work around the facility continues at a record pace. Among the major projects under way has been the removal and replacement of the concrete pad surrounding Buildings 2 and 2N. Of course in the Viking tradition of building a better boat every day, the company has taken the same approach with the improvements. Thus, we have added radiant heating beneath the new concrete to prevent the buildup of ice during the winter, which will make it more convenient for the Travelift, as well as enhance the safety for our people. A special thanks to Bayview Nurseries and Garden Center of Northfield, New Jersey, for graciously supplying us with beautiful foliage for Building 1.

Viking Win Texas Legends

Bandit for the win! Bert Steindorf's Viking 82 Bandit won it all at the recent Texas Legends Billfish Tournament. With Captain Kevin Scott at the helm, the team released a blue marlin, three white marlin and four sails to top the leaderboard. Third Place was awarded to Cliff Thomas' Viking 68 Mine Time with four whites and four sails. Mine Time also led the Billfish Release category. The largest blue marlin released was on George Gartner's Viking 56 Legacy.

Viking Tami Ann Puts Charlie in the Bag

More than 80 boats fished the northeast's premiere tournament, the Tri-State Canyon Shootout in Block Island, Rhode Island. Topping the board was Frank Mazza's brand new Viking 55Tami Ann. Tami Ann angler Wade Baker brought a big eye to the scales that topped out at a record 278.5 pounds to claim Largest Tuna and the biggest paycheck in the tournament's history. Third Place Tuna was awarded to Scott Rhein fishing on Pete Rhein's Viking 56 Sneaky Pete with a 201 pounder. The largest wahoo went to angler Roland Beamish with a 64 pound 'hoo fishing on the Viking 61 Jolly Mon. The Viking 61 Blue Eyes took the Tri-Fishecta and angler Jim Payliaro secured the top albacore spot with a 61.5 pounder. Third Place Billfish release points went to the Viking 45 Relentless thanks to angler Mike Tucci.

Viking On The Board

First event and a first place win! The Viking 62 Convertible showed up to her inaugural tournament with guns blazing for the Beach Haven White Marlin Invitational. Captain Brian Komer and his crew wasted no time in heading straight to the winner's circle with nine white marlin and the title of Grand Champion and First Place White Marlin Points. Viking 62 angler Bob Shomo, Vice President of Johnson & Towers, brought two whites to the scales to claim the First and Second Place Heaviest White Marlin. Oil Slick added more hardware to the trophy case with a First Place finish at the Yacht Club of Stone Harbor Invitational Marlin Tournament. Captain Ryan Higgins, fishing on the Viking 70, led angler Lonni Rutt to a Second Place Angler award.

Viking Texas Blues

The Rockport, Texas, Bastante Tournament is not only in the books, it is in the Texas State Record Book! Captain Kevin Dearman found some fishy water and Viking 56 Legacy angler Richard Richardson, Jr., went to work. The crew thought they were fighting a shark but when the big beauty surfaced, they realized it was a blue marlin. Richard took about 20 minutes reeling her in while the crew spent more than double that to boat the fish. At the scales the number read 972 pounds, smashing the 26 year old Texas state blue marlin record. Congratulations to Legacy owner George and Donna Gartner for taking Top Boat, Legacy's Kevin Dearman on Top Captain and angler Richard Richardson, Jr., on a new state record.

New Model: Horizon V80

Horizon is pleased to announce the launch and delivery of the first V80 to a new owner in Taiwan at the end of July. The launch of V80 marks two milestones for Horizon, she is hull one of the new model but also the first over 24 meter private super yacht delivered to a Taiwan owner. The Horizon V80 is a cockpit style yacht and was re-imagined from the V72 model after listening to client feedback; increased interior volume and added a variety of amenities and features, such as the ability to accommodate three or four spacious ensuite staterooms and an internal stairwell from the salon to crew. On the exterior, Horizon incorporated a U-shaped settee for eight persons and dual sun-pads in the fore-deck, with the option for a Bimini top if desired, and the crew quarters also saw an increase in space. Horizon’s ability to customize a yacht is one of the main reasons the owner chose to build with the famous Taiwan builder, and he visited the shipyard and met with the in-house designers many times, both before signing the contract and during the build of the V80. Built for a first-time yacht owner, V80 first hull was titled “The One” and also features a number of custom items requested by the owner: a three stateroom layout below deck, with an oversize master; a mahjong area forward of the salon on the main deck; and the galley aft of the engines in lieu of a crew area. The owner liked the V80’s quality, design and performance, and the extra twenty feet plus beam also provided a functional space for his family, entertaining guests and business demands. Bavaria presents the project for a new 400 Sport set to debut the coming fall. As the 360 presented a few months back we again see a model available in four different version; Open, Hard Top, Soft Top and Couple. The most versatile all year use version of the new 400 Sport will the be the Coupe version, who with the opening of the electric sunroof and the generous glass sliding patio doors aft, make the upper saloon becomes a very spacious cockpit joining outside with inside. Below decks the new Bavaria 400 will offers an owner's cabin in the bow, saloon and the galley and VIP cabin amidships. Power options for the 400 will be a total of seven engines; three gas petrol and seven diesel stern drive choices. Standard power base is twin Mercury 320hp gas petrol.
