Class 1 - Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

Race 1
Team Abu Dhabi's Rashed Al Tayer and John Tomlinson are celebrating a famous victory after winning race 1 of their home Grand Prix, ahead of Victory 2010's Mohammed Al Marri and Giorgio Manuzzi, with Giovanni Carpitella and Class 1 debutant Luca Fendi completing the podium in Negotiator. But there was disappointment for World Champions Arif Al Zafeen and Nadir Bin Hendi in Fazza, who, having led from the first corner saw their race lead disappear on lap 10 after pulling off the course with an electrical problem. For Al Tayer and Tomlinson their first win together was rich reward for pushing the World Champions hard from the start, narrowly failing to overhaul them to lead at the end of lap one. After taking all their long-laps early and trading places with Skydive Dubai and Victory 2010 they moved back into second place on lap seven, taking the lead on lap 10 and going on to take the victory, completing the 12 lap, 53.29Nm course in 31mins 44.59secs at an average speed of 179.19kmh.
Second place for Mohammed Al Marri and Giorgio Manuzzi in their first race together and in the new Victory designed boat on its first competitive outing, was some consolation for the team, after seeing Skydive Dubai's Abdullah Al Mehairbi and Talib Al Sayed retire on lap 7 with engine problems and a race win disappear three laps later. There was also an impressive performance by Class 1 newcomer Luca Fendi, racing alongside fellow-Italian Giovanni Carpitella, making-up four places from their start position to bring Negotiator home in third place.
Relekta's Paul Gaiser and Christian Zaborowski produced their best result of the season, improving on their sixth position in qualifying, to take fourth place to finish ahead of Nicola Giorgi and another Class 1 newcomer, Sandro Sardelli, in GiorgiOffshore. Fazza and Skydive Dubai were classified in seventh and eighth places, with GSG Ceramic Design failing to make the start of the race due to engine problems. Any hopes of a possible pole and race win double for pole-sitters Kolbjorn Selmer and Jorn Tandberg, who briefly led the race from the start flag, ended early on lap 2, retiring with oil pressure problems after all but turning Welmax over on the run to the first corner.

Race 2
Defending World Champions Arif Al Zafeen and Nadir Bin Hendi produced a Championship winning drive to clinch a tenth World title for Dubai's Victory Team, winning a dramatic and incident filled race 2 of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, with two separate incidents involving Victory 2010 and a collision between Skydive Dubai and Negotiator, forcing race officials to immediately red flag the race and call for a restart. Second place went to Welmax's Kolbjorn Selmer and Jorn Tandberg after a titanic battle for podium honours with their Norwegian rivals Relekta, with Paul Gaiser and Christian Zaborowski producing an outstanding performance to take their first podium of the year. The drama unfolded at the first corner when race leader's Mohammed Al Marri and Giorgio Manuzzi spun-out and then rolled Victory 2010, with both pilots emerging unscathed from the upturned hull.
The high-impact coming together between Abdullah Al Meharibi and Talib Al Sayed in Skydive Dubai and Italians Luca Fendi and Giovanii Carpitella in Negotiator, that sidelined both boats, happened almost immediately. From the restart the World Champions were in a class of their own, emerging from the outside start-leg with Fazza out front and comfortably clear of the chasing pack, with Al Zafeen and Bin Hendi going on to take their 19th career wins, completing the shortened 12-lap race in 30mins 26.42secs.
Behind the race leader's a titanic three-way race-long fight for the remaining two podium places was played out with just seconds separating Relekta, Team Abu Dhabi and Welmax, with Welmax coming through to take second place from Relekta on the penultimate-lap. Relekta's first podium of the season was the result of an outstanding drive by Paul Gaiser and Christian Zaborowski who heroically held off their challengers for ten laps before finally conceding second spot. For race 1 winner's, Team Abu Dhabi, it was a case of the podium that got away from them after Rahed Al Tayer and John Tomlinson were given a penalty long-lap for missing a turn buoy at the end of lap six, dropping them to fourth place, with GiorgiOffshore's Sandro Sardelli and Nicola Giorgi completing a solid points scoring weekend finishing fifth, whilst an already frustrating weekend for Guido Cappellini and Giampaolo Montavoci in GSG Ceramic Design ended with them stopping just minutes after the restart. With their third World titles already secured Arif Al Zafeen and Nadir Bin Hendi will now turn their attentions to trying to overhaul Team Abu Dhabi in the battle for the Middle East Championship in the final Grand Prix of the season in Dubai, 9-11 December.

Improve-it = Itama Forty

Itama chose the most important boat show in Italy, and one of the greatest global platforms to unveil a limited edition of its great classic, the Forty. This version is born to celebrate the one hundred delivery of this unique timeless sport cruiser, with the intention to go over the brand history. The Itama Forty was the first of the new Ferretti Group models entrusted to Rome designer Marco Casali. Today the range has five models starting from the Forty up till the 2008 launched Seventy Five flagship. Restyling of Itama Forty no. 100 proposes style features typical of the earlier eighties and nineties Amati models: lacquered interiors, an even cleaner and clearer design, with white as prevalent colour, and the typical nautical style. Moreover, interiors include stylish furnishing items for the bathroom and kitchen from the prestigious JVstore di Jannelli&Volpi, not to mention the important partnership with Brionvega which, together with yacht designer Marco Casali, designed a Cubo Itama Edition radio, produced in a limited number of models that will embellish the new yacht. The rest stays the same for the successful Itama Forty from the very sea worthy deep Vee 22 degrees dead rise hull, a two interior plan choice for a single or twin cabin, 35 knots performance with twin 450hp engines, and the choice for an aft sun lounger or U-shaped settee.

Project: Horizon 46 SC

Horizon presents the project of the 46 SunCat. A very interesting proposal for the fact that this is a one hundred per cent clean energy moving craft, which follows what Horizon showcased in the small 23SC about a year ago. But being fair to Horizon here the Sun Cat project is much complicated for the larger size, and more weight which totals 21 tons. The 46 SC is also supported with efficient batteries which totals 48 kWh these being used for propulsion, mooring, and other boating activities. Accommodation is also interesting having a very spacious main deck layout with a saloon having two sofas, an L-shaped galley, and a central helm station. Down below is space for the owners spacious room located in the middle and two shower heads. One of which is for the guests and has a separate entrance.

New Model: Luhrs 30 Open

Luhrs presents the new Thirty Open an entry level Sportfish Cruiser, able to offer good performance and comfortable accommodations for its size. Fishing amenities are shown in the wide beam offering stability, the Carolina flare which keeps water away, and a raised bridge deck with sunshade giving optimal visibility. Luhrs also present the 30 Open with a long list of standards, that in this size are usually optional, of which surely the most surprising item is the custom welded aluminum tower with hardtop. Smart design coming from bigger boats also make the 30 Open stand out, like a good deck moving capability, and easy access to all service points, this including the engine room. Below is also a modern interior combining comfort, versatility and durability into one very livable package. You'll appreciate the common sense layout V-shaped settee to fore, galley and shower head on entrance. Finishing is vertical grain for the cabinetry and Grey Corian counter tops. The V-shaped saloon dual settee converts easily into four individual berths to provide plenty of sleep space. Inside is also a six large rods and reels store. Power is from twin Yanmar 260hp engines.

Improve-it = Haines 35 Offshore

One of the popular Haines models, the 35 Offshore gets added with new choices which shows versatility from this family run company. During the past September in the Southampton show Haines presented a new walnut interior fit out, which now sits as an alternative to the standard cherry wood finishing to the 35 Offshore. This new choice adds to the popularity of the 35 Offshore, who has received various consensus from customers and media alike for its layout plan having an owners suite shower located below, comfortable living area on the main deck saloon, and twin diesel power which give speeds up to 18 knots to the semi displacement hull.

New Model: Cranchi Fifty 6 Soft Top

Cranchi present its second new model for the 2010 season with the Fifty 6 Soft Top launched in Genoa. This new model is third in Cranchi's 2009 launched upper size Yacht Class range, but also number three for using Volvo IPS drive in the family of this Italian builder. Cranchi's Fifty 6 Soft Top, follows recent sport yacht trends for a hard top with a very open feel on the main living cockpit deck. This means a fully opening soft top, and sides opened up to allow fresh air. Measuring an overall length of sixty feet this new Cranchi makes the exterior a very spacious one with the usual layout, C-shaped settee, sunpad aft and an unusal central helm station with two bucket seats. Down below is space for two large cabins, mid ship for the owner, to fore for the VIP guests, and a medium sized third L-shaped bunk for guests, which are joined here by a C-shaped saloon, and galley. Class 1 - Abu Dhabi Preview

Nine boats will line up for this week's Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and a repeat of last year's race win-double by World Champions Arif Al Zafeen and Nadir Bin Hendi will seal the Emirati duo their third World titles.
The Fazza pairing already has one trophy under their belts after clinching the 2010 European Championship at the Italian Grand Prix in Stresa in October, taking six wins from a possible eight this season, and head into the penultimate Grand Prix of the season carrying a 33-point advantage over their teammates in Spirit of Dubai. And, barring any kind of technical meltdown are on course to give Victory Team a tenth World crown.
For the Spirit of Dubai crew the title may be beyond their reach but they know they can cover off the 2010 Champions elect from an unlikely but still mathematically possible title challenge from either Negotiator or GSG Ceramic Design, and will be looking to defend their second place in the points standings by adding to their tally of four podium finishes since teaming-up in Sweden.
Three teams field new pairings this week; Italian outfit GiorgiOffshore bring in Italian motor racing driver Sandro Sardelli to take the driver's seat in the Lamborghini-SCAM powered GiorgiOffshore to make his Class 1 debut alongside experienced throttleman Nicola Giorgi.
Giorgi makes his 73rd Grand Prix start in Abu Dhabi and will be looking to try to repeat his podium success in the Edox Pole Position last year, and to consolidate on this season's performances, which saw him start strongly to finish fifth and fourth in Brazil, grab a podium in race 1 in Sweden and finish sixth in race 2 in the Italian Grand Prix.
UK based Chris Parsonage Racing field an all-Italian driver line up, with Giovanni Carpitella who raced with team owner Parsonage last time out in Italy joined in the Lamborghini V12-powered Negotiator by Class 1 debutant, Luca Formilli Fendi, who has competed in XCAT and Class 3 and for the last three years in P1, lifting the European Championship in 2008.
Carpitella, who made his Class 1 debut in 2002, will not be fazed by a seventh driver change in 30 race starts. In 2009 he guided Al Hameli to a podium on his Class 1 race debut in Abu Dhabi and this season powered two of his drivers to podium successes and race wins, Manuzzi in Norway and Al Tayer in Sweden, on his way to finishing second overall in this season's European Championship.
Looking to build on an already impressive debut season in Class 1 with four podium finishes and currently lying in fourth place in the overall points table GSG Ceramic Design's Guido Cappellini reforms his partnership with fellow Italian Giampaolo Montavoci, who earlier this year won the GPS (P1) World title.
The pair raced together at the season-opener in Brazil, finishing fourth and third, with Montavoci, who last year achieved his best-ever finish in the overall World Championship standings in his twelve years of racing, finishing fourth, looking to continue his extraordinary run of consecutive points-finishes, which began back in Arendal in 2007, and now extends to 22 Grands Prix and 26 races.
Denied their first race win together in race 1 in Italy after being handed a post-race penalty-lap, Welmax's all-Norwegian partnership of Kolbjorn Selmer and Jorn Tandberg has, on occasion this season, looked the crew most likely to upset Fazza's dominance and although out of the running in the race for the World title, a run of three consecutive wins in qualifying puts them at the top of the Edox Pole Position Championship standings, ten points clear of their arch rivals. A fourth win this weekend would all but secure the title barring any major mishaps.
Relekta's relatively new Norwegian-Brazilian pairing, who came together at the Norwegian Grand, will be aiming to up the pace this weekend and to build on their fifth place finish last time out, as more time on the water gives Christian Zaborowski and Paul Gaiser the opportunity to fine tune and develop their partnership.
Team Abu Dhabi will line up for the first time in their home Grand Prix and in front of a partisan crowd, double race winner, Rashed Al Tayer, and American John Tomlinson will be confident that they have the credentials to target a podium finish after narrowly missing out on their debut outing together in Italy.
After taking podiums in Brazil and Norway, then stepping back from race duties in Sweden, Victory Team's double World Champion Mohammed Al Marri returns to the cockpit to make his 70th Grand Prix appearance in the team's third boat, Victory 2010, teaming up with Italian Giorgio Manuzzi, also returning to racing after double podium success in Norway.
The action starts with first practice on tommorow Wednesday afternoon, a second practice on Thursday morning followed by qualifying in the Edox Pole Position and Race 1 - 53.29Nm, 12 laps including three long laps. A final practice on Friday morning is followed by Race 2 - 71.39Nm, 16 laps, including five long laps.

Project: Fairline 58 Squadron

Fairline decide to update and redesign the award winning 55 Squadron to create the 58 Squadron, scheduled for launch at the London show coming January 2011. The new 58 Squadron incorporates key design trends and ongoing signature Fairline styling as seen on the latest generation models. The key change here will be the longer length hull which sees the introduction of an extended cockpit seating area. The extended aft deck also brings greater headroom above the bed in the fourth-crew cabin. Panoramic windows feature throughout the boat. The new length also allows for a larger master cabin. To help make the most of the time on the water, the innovative, patent-pending concealed mechanised Fairline Tender Launch, for either a Williams 325 Jet RIB or a Valiant Dynamic 2.7m, is fitted as standard. Following the Squadron 65, the latest model features an overhead lift-up transom shower. A two-stage, sliding patio door allows the area leading from the cockpit to the saloon to be opened up. Giving further space to these living areas, the high level lockers have been relocated from both sides of the saloon and cleverly designed storage has been positioned in the saloon sofa; simply lift the top cushion to reveal. Another change are newly designed mid-level lockers in the starboard guest cabin which are now twice as wide.

Pershing 92 is the latest model which continues the new idea course as set with the 72 in 2007, and later on followed by the 80, and 64. New window profiles, larger aft deck, more spacious interior, and a sport flybridge helm up top which makes more of this unseen area are the novelties for the 92 to the replaced 90 model. Project: Baia 24.5 Sevolution

So far this new style of new generation hybrid hulled Explorer style yachts seems to have mostly involved only the large groups as Ferretti or Azimut, so seeing Baia a family yard which produces about thirty boats a year coming with the 24.5 Sevolution innovative project is a reply to all these excuses from some other builders. This is not the first time that Baia thinks out of the box as the South Italian Neapolitan builder has also in the past launched other innovations. Indeed Baia was the first company to use the now famous Arneson surface drives commercially on the B50 in the early eighties, and to invent a removable hard top system for its 48 Flash in 1998. 24.5 Sevolution thinks further featuring an other innovative unedited hybrid hull shape coming from Italy which joins displacement, semi-displacement and planning characteristics all in one. To create this Baia collaborated with the Federico II university of Naples. Not sure if 24.5 is the size here, as Baia on its website article talks for for two yachts of 26 and 29 metres with project speeds of 22 knots max, 18 cruise, and best economy at 16 knots. Various options will also concern to the fitting out from the fore deck, to the flybridge which can be used as entertainment or to stow up to two large private water craft tenders. Baia also speaks of a novelty to what concerns the interior volume where a house style fitting out should be possible. Power to this one deck explorer Super Yacht will be a diverse solution of diesel engines, electrical power, and solar panels with pod propulsion from ZF or the Volvo IPS system to be used. Now the bad news in this very interesting project is that Baia says it will concentrate the 24.5 Sevolution line to only bigger super sizes of 24 metres plus, which considering the recent success the other Italian builder has had with a new fifteen metre model will surely be a lost chance to them.

New Model: Azimut 50 Magellano

One of the most expected models to be presented in Genoa, this was the Azimut 50 Magellano which generated a success to its builder beyond all forecasts as reports say production is sold till well into the 2012 year. There is many references to which this success is given from the dual mode hull by Bill Dixon, Green Plus Rina Certification, Hybrid optional choice with the addition of two electric motors, and to the four choices of the lower deck. As one can see versatility and an Explorer yacht which does not miss many beats from anywhere you look at it is key. The 50 Magellano seems to reply to current yachtsman demands for an economic to run yacht which is not slow as the 18 knots cruise speed says, but is also comfortable at slower speeds. Here Azimut was wise as it applied the concept of last years presented 74 in a more popular size, and this trend is to continue next year when the known Italian builder will present a smaller 40 Magellano with the same concept of ecological boating, dual mode hull, and comforts which come from its faster range of boats but are applied for the first time in this type of yacht.

Projects: Bavaria 43 Sport, Bavaria 43 Sport HT

Bavaria presents the project for a new 43 Sport series to be available in both open and hard top versions, a model which will replace the long standing 42. These new models follow Bavaria revamp of the line as started with the current motor boat flagship the 46 Deep Blue, and continues the collaboration with BMW Group DesignworksUSA. The 43 Sport open version will only differ from the HT model for the hard top. The interior will be a three cabins six berths, or two cabins four berths choice, and following recent Bavaria trends a huge size cockpit with what looks an up and down hydraulic platform for tender stowage is to be found. Power will be a choice of Volvo's from 370 up 435hp with selection of stern drive or IPS forward looking pods propulsion. The Bavaria 43 Sport HT hard top version continues the large window area theme as seen on the BMW Group designed Bavaria's offering a technical and functional design. Here as it is visible, a lot is coming from the little sister the 38 Sport HT, with advantage of bigger sizes everywhere. The large sunroof can be opened with an integrated manual soft-top, which is also available to operate electrically. Thanks to the low rim in combination with the optional fold-out pedestal, the driver can look outside the windscreen whilst driving without any obstructions. The front wind screen, and side hard top windows can also be chosen to be heated. For the rest this hard top version is identical to the open 43 Sport, with advantage that a more comfortable use can be made during Winter time.

New Model: Cruisers 480 Cantius

First announced in the fall of 2008 as the Cruisers 460 Sports Coupe project, the Oconto Wisconsin USA boat builder finally presents this model now 480 Cantius. For those asking about the name to this 48 feet sport cruiser, it is dedicated to Cruisers parent company KCS International Inc founder Cantius Stock. A total new model based on the Volvo IPS pods propulsion, the 480 Cantius has been two years plus in the making, and its hard top design has also been a choice given to Cruisers owners, customers, and friends. This boat stands out for its versatility as an all year round cruiser and being able to close down and become a cozy affair in seconds. This thanks to sliding patio doors, and the electric sunroof. Stand out features are two galleys, very interesting the one on the main deck being astern, three total saloons including the one on the aft deck, full beam mid ship owners suite, and a third shower head. This last a unique feature for a Sport Cruiser of this size. A VIP suite room to fore completes the accommodation layout below decks. Tender stowage is onto a hydraulic up and down moving bathing platform aft. Power is from standard Volvo 375hp or optional 435hp both with IPS pod propulsion, which makes docking a breeze.

Project: Maritimo M48 Cruising Motoryacht Series II

Maritimo is celebrating the one hundred boat milestone for its most popular 48 Cruising Motoryacht with the launch of the Series II model. The M48 Series II takes on a number of the design concepts first seen with the new generation M56 and newly launched M53 Cruising Motoryachts. The hallmark wings over the side decks have been deleted, giving the superstructure a more streamlined look. The hull now sports a large port light on the port side to flood the master stateroom with natural light. Continuing the smoother look, the designers have also deleted the skipper's door to starboard forward in the saloon and extended the starboard lounge forward to the bulkhead. This offers more seating to relax in the spacious saloon. The galley has not been overlooked, with full height refrigerator and full-height swing-out pantry included. Access between the galley and aft cockpit is dramatically improved with bi-fold doors that tuck away to open the entire saloon. Of course the designers have maintained the most popular elements of the original craft first launched in 2007. The new M48 has the hallmark walk-around decks and internal staircase, three cabin two bathroom accommodation, spacious saloon and large flybridge. In fact the flybridge has been slightly extended and a sunroof is now standard. The Maritimo M48 Cruising Motoryacht Series II will be launched in the beginning of 2011.

New Model: Hatteras GT60

The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show was the the place where Hatteras presented its new GT60. The first installment in the Hatteras GT Series, the 60 is the fore runner of an exciting family of tournament class convertibles designed for serious anglers. Two further projects a 54, and a 63 are scheduled to launch in beginning of the coming 2011 year. Hatteras says that the GT60 is the culmination of fifty years in convertible design and propulsion development, combined with the latest technological advances in materials and methods utilized in fiberglass construction. The new Hatteras GT60 takes its exterior design cues from the current 60, but a newly redesigned cockpit and a touch of panache added to the overall looks give it a unique style of her own. The interior accommodations found in the GT60 are not only more open, but are designed with a level of sophistication not often found in a convertible. Hatteras also offers the option of three lower deck layouts one of which is a four double cabin plan, galley down choice, and an enclosed bridge option. Larger window framing allows for better views, and beautifully combined wall coverings and exotic woods create a more open layout while continuing to provide a warm and luxurious environment. But what is most noticeable about the GT60 is its performance, and as promised by Hatteras this is a forty knot boat as was the special GT Series Edition of the now replaced 60 Convertible model. In fact with the large twin Cats 1900hp power this is the speed of the new GT60 a fast forty knots, which goes down to four nautical miles in all time cruise mode.

Project: Salpa 30.5 Gran Turismo

Salpa presents the project of the 30.5 Gran Turismo which continues the trend of hybrid concepts coming from Italy like the Altantis Verve to the new Mano Gran Sport models. That is joining a walk around functionality with that of a cabin boat. The Salpa 30.5 Gran Turismo exterior will use all its deck to offer an aft with two L-shaped settees, central console helm with glassed hard top, fully equipped galley, and a sun lounger on the fore peak. Down below the 30.5 Gran Turismo can sleep four persons in two beds one coming from converting the U-shaped settee to fore, and double coming from mid ship. The head room surprises for space and a separate shower stall. Hull is to a design of legendary Renato Sonny Levi, although I do not know if this comes from the old 30 Laver or is a complete new concept. Whatever the case the roots of this legendary designer are there so if Salpa did good work in its research and design departments the 30.5 Gran Turismo should be one of the best riding boats in this size. Power is a standard of twin stern drives Volvo 200hp diesels.

Propulsion: ZF Pod 2800

ZF Marine Group introduces a revolutionary new approach to Pod drive and joystick control technology in small pleasure craft applications, which extends its availability to a larger segment of the pleasure boat market. In conjunction with SeaVee boats, ZF Marine has developed a complete propulsion system solution around a center console sport fishing application that will offer joystick control and maneuverability while employing the pleasure craft industry’s first single Pod drive line. The heart of the propulsion package from ZF Marine incorporates 3 main components. The ZF 2800 Series Pod drive rated at 480hp. This Pod has been redesigned to offer 180 degrees of total movement, 90 degrees of rotation to both port and starboard from the cent reline. The ZF 185 AC Thruster that introduced to the market at last year’s Fort Lauderdale show. The ZF 185 Thruster is designed to offer proportional thrust, 30 minute continuous duty cycle, and smooth, quiet operation thanks to a patented thruster tube design. ZF Marine’s proven SmartCommand controls with Joystick. The joystick system is engaged when the Easidock feature is activated via a button touch on the SmartCommand control head. During normal at sea operation the 2800 Pod drive is restricted to 30 degrees of movement in either direction from center. This restriction of movement is released in Easidock mode and the POD now has full 180 degree movement. The ZF 185 AC Thruster is also brought online at this time. As the vessel operator directs the joystick in any direction or combination of directions the joystick system incorporates POD thrust and varying amounts of thrust from the bow thruster. Proportional control of the thruster means smooth engagement, and only as much thrust as needed to move the vessel in the desired direction. Proportional thrust, combined with an electronic compass tied to the main JMS control unit means there is no vessel yaw during sideways movement. ZF Marine’s patented iAnchor station keeping functionality is also included in the Single Pod System. With the press of a button, iAnchor will compensate for wind and current holding the vessel’s position to as little as a 3 foot radius.

New Model: Sunseeker 54 Predator

Officially presented about a year ago Sunseeker have been very slow in promoting the 54 Predator. This model is basically a redesign of the 2005 53 Portofino model which it now replaces. Rumour has it that the slow promotion is due to the fact that there is some 53 Portofino Mk.II unsold models around the globe, so this model has been kept a little bit under warps since launched a year ago, even tough in my opinion it is one of the most valid recent Sunseeker's. The hard top design follows a very open feel, and the cockpit just as the bigger 60 feels quite large. The 54 Predator can also accommodate two personal water craft, from a rib in the stern garage to a jet bike on the hydraulic up and down bathing platform. Accommodation is a three double cabin interior with a layout identical to the replaced 53 Portofino. Owners stateroom to fore, and two double cabins to mid ship. Obviously furnishings and living areas as the galley and saloon have been redesigned now feeling more spacious. Hull one of the 54 Predator had a very cool white oak with black wood trimming fit out. Power is a max up to twin 865hp Cat engines with shafts which should give a top speed of up to 33 knots. Future options should also include pod drives which Sunseeker seems to have embraced fully in recent times, but so far there is no speed data for this choice.

Haines New Web Site

Haines Marine from the United Kingdom presents its new virtual online showroom. This UK builder is at the moment a bit unique in its country for a few reasons. Most important is that it is still owned by its founders Bob and Mary Haines who established the company in 1980. But other important reasons are that Haines is one of the few British builders who designs its boats around British weather, and also has an inland waterways or offshore hull choice for some of the models making its cruisers ideally suited for river cruising. In its successful history Haines has also received the prestigious Motor Boat Monthly Customer Service Award. Located in Norfolk on the East Coast of Britain, today Haines builds a total of six models which start from the 31 Sedan, and end up with the just introduced 400 flagship. Haines new website takes you around with the following buttons; About Us, The Range, The Experience, Stock Boats, News, Owners, and Contact Us.

New Model: Benetti Class 93 Delfino

The new 93 Delfino by Benetti, which starts in size this years introduced semi custom Class range concept builds on the 2007 introduced 85 Legend model with modification to the upper deck and most of the window profile and design. These changes makes the two decks and a half 93 Delfino look totally different with architect Stefano Righini taking a more classic approach in the exterior, and considering that the name comes from a past Benetti model it does have to be like this. Interior is a spacious five double cabins for guests with the owners suite on the main deck. The living main deck is a three split area having in the entrance the relaxing and dining area, a middle part with day head and galley, and the fore peak reserved for the owners suite. Tender stowage is located to aft in a garage housing a Rib, and jet bike. Power is two choices, standard being the Cats at 1001hp each which give a 14 knots max, and 13 knots cruise.

Project: Intermarine 85

Intermarine 85 is the fourth project set by this Brazilian boat builder new course, and unlike the other models here design is entrusted to designer Luiz de Basto who is also responsible for the ten feet smaller 75. So for its four models from 55 to 85 feet coming up in 2011 Intermarine has used three different designers. Measuring 88 feet overall the 85 flagship will launch last of the new four models and is set to be in the water for the fall of the coming 2011 year. Just as in the smaller 75 Luiz de Basto takes a very European approach in the looks with a very sporty low profile lines. Surprising elements are the jacuzzi on the fly which is still hard to find under one hundred feet, the large glassed windscreens which reaches up to the flybridge deck, and very large bathing platform. Inside new ideas continue to come up and interesting is the compact L-shaped settee by the helm station good for the guest to entertain during trips or for the captain to make his charts course, spacious crew room aft, large full beam owners stateroom, and two heads VIP suite. Down below is space for four double cabins all with private shower heads, but the owners room really surprises for having two bathrooms one of which the one to port-side having a bidet and full bath, and a full walk in wardrobe. Power will be from twin MTU 1800hp engines with speeds estimates being a fast 34 knots for this sixty ton yacht.

New Model: Cranchi Sixty 6 Flybridge

Cranchi basing itself on the hull of the first model of the new Yacht Class the Sixty 4 HT presents a new flagship with the Sixty 6 Flybridge. As usual to Cranchi good engineering and well planned interior and technical areas make the difference in its models. Unusual characteristics for a flybridge but found in the Sixty 6 are the wet bar galley in the aft deck, the sunpad settee conversion to stern, and the jockey style raised helm station inside. Accommodation is a three double cabins plan plus a single berth crew cabin aft, and as the large window suggests there is a spacious full beam owners stateroom at mid ship. The galley is located below, and although the layout plan shows it being a bit enclosed I still think an option for a main deck choice should be included in this size. The interior main deck saloon looks also a bit less in size versus the competition but large windows and a lot of natural light will give the impression that it is actually bigger, although you do get a larger aft deck for this. The flybridge is again smallish for a twenty meter yacht but then again you have a free area aft which can be used how you want it. Some details also leave me confused in the new Cranchi Sixty 6 Flybridge like the stainless steel radar arch or the support pillars for the overhang of the extended fly. Nothing wrong in these but from a certain point of view they do look a bit economic, and less clean to the lines of the Sixty 6 Flybridge. Power is from twin MAN 1400hp which give wide open throttle speeds of 33 knots.
Technical Data:

Project: Gamma 16

Launching the first Gamma 20 model the past Summer this Italian boat builder follows it with the project of the similar but smaller 16. An interesting challenge for Gamma and designer Vripack to themselves and to the market. So it will interesting to see how the Italian Mediterranean market reacts to a 16 metre explorer yacht build of steel. Measuring an overall length of 62 feet which comes in actual fact over eighteen meters the Gamma 16 will offer a three double cabin interior with full beam owners stateroom, VIP suite to fore, and twin bunk guest third cabin. A crew room for two is to be located aft. Power is a not so large twin Volvo 575hp engines which should give a top speed of 16 knots, and a range of about 1200 nautical miles at an economic cruise. Bigger engines can add the top speed to another 2 knots. Considering the estimates of a heavy 44 tons half displacement weight these look good estimate numbers.

New Model: Rodman 31 Spirit

In the fall of this season the Spanish boat builder Rodman with the help of Italian designer Fulvio De Simoni presented the new Spirit line launching its first 31 model. The 31 Spirit is an interesting new model from Rodman, and with it this well respected Spanish company stretches its market to Northern Europe and to those who want a boat to use all year round. While in this concept Rodman also extended there relationships with Italian designer Fulvio de Simoni who they started working since the 2006 launched 54 Muse. Even in that case it was a new range set up from Rodman which today features four distinctive models including the 74 Muse flagship. The 31 Spirit is a very versatile boat and its most distinctive feature is the circular settee in the cockpit which thanks to its movement extends and opens the size of the aft deck. But that is surely half the story as a fully enclosed pilot house with sunroof and patio door, a living in the main deck, a well sized shower head, and two double cabins complete this sport cruiser. Versatility is also key to this project and in fact the 31 Spirit can be powered for a coastal slower more economic use with a single engine in this case a Volvo 300hp, or a twin faster safer optional of two 170hp units.

Project: Princess 60

Princess present the project for a new 60, which will replace the 58 model. Based on the hull of the model it replaces the 60 will feature a change and improvement in all areas from the internal layout plan offering more spaces, to a redesigned super structure, new deck arrangement, and larger windows in all areas. The most important novelty here is the moving of the galley, now on the main deck from below, and a three head layout instead of two. Finally Princess walked away from the 58 galley situated in the lower deck by the cabins, which is not so good on anything above fifty feet where luxury and comfort becomes of a certain importance. Below the owners suite, and VIP remain to a similar plan although both are larger to what was offered on the 58. Other important novelties are the hydraulic up and down bathing platform, aft deck with two transom doors, and longer extended flybridge. The flybridge is also larger now having a C-shaped settee to starboard, and sun pad to aft. Completing the new design are also latest generation Princess window profile similar to what was introduced with the 62 in 2006. Power choices are three double engines from Volvo and Cat starting from 800 up to 900hp.

Improve-it = Bertram 540

Listening to customers Bertram presents a new version to the 2008 launched 540, aimed at meeting the requirements of the hard core fisherman. Called the Hard Core Fishing version this 540 is recognizable from the outside for its fiberglass brow which makes away with the criticized revolutionary forward windshield, characteristic of this model launched in 2008. Whether the forward windshield was loved or hate is another question, but the truth is that since Bertram presented it we have seen other builders copy it from Riviera to Tiara, to the custom Jarrett Bay. Another change in the 540 is a new main deck layout again looking back to traditional Sportfish yacht design with a galley forward, and additional storage for essentials. Adding this new interior layout to the two previous astern galley versions with lower helm or without, the 540 now has three different main deck plans to choose from. Not bad for a Sportfish Yacht labelled as a production model. The standard 540 with forward windshield which gives a nice full view from the saloon, astern galley, and lower helm option will still be available and is now called the Recreational Version for its more cruising looks, but same sportfish yacht functionality on the aft deck, and flybridge.

New Model: Viking 42 Convertible

An important new model from famed US builder Viking who finally after two years of waiting launch the 42 Convertible. This new model represents an important step for Viking presenting its first pod propulsion Sportfish Cruiser from its New Gretna facility in Jersey, USA. At 42 feet of overall length and an optional interior three double cabins choice the new small Viking Convetible also represents the smallest Sportfish with the most berths. It has been a long time since Viking built a boat in this size range, since two years the smallest offer is the 46, and to go smaller to this new 42 it is for the early nineties 38. But Viking points out that the 42 Convertible will have no mistaking its resourceful blue water gene pool, or its fitting out standard resembling its larger siblings in every part of construction. If you see it in Annapolis in the coming days, or in couple weeks time in Fort Lauderdale tell us about this? The wraparound metallic black windshield mask, which blends artfully with the dark tinted salon windows and the aggressive rake of the bow, provides a most pleasing profile. As you can expect there is no lower helm in the 42 Convertible, but a spacious saloon with an L-shaped sofa, L-shaped dinette, and a galley with bar. In the cockpit, Viking signature observation mezzanine affords both seating and stowage, while on the flying bridge, a center console helm flanked with port and starboard lounge seating, and a lounge ahead of the helm is clever and practical. Two ladder back helm seats add a finishing touch. Stylish accommodations below feature hand finished teak joinery and sleeping for four in two staterooms, along with two heads, each with a fiberglass stall shower. An optional three double cabins version layout is available, this having bunk berths in the guest rooms. With this option you get a slightly smaller galley with no bar. Standard power is Cummins 440hp, or optional faster 480hp choice both matched to the ZF Zeus pods with joystick controls.

Project: Beneteau 8 Antares S

Beneteau presents the project of the 8 Antares S, the smallest in this range of motor cruisers suited for cruising and fishing of the French boat building giant. Designed by Sarrazin this baby Antares is suited for boaters who put solid navigation and medium speeds first. You can say the 8 Antares S is for the entry level, but personally I think its more for the boaters who come from the experience of smaller sizes and want something comfortable where to welcome friends and family. The interior of the 8 Antares S is no slouch too, offering a two plus two accommodation plan with a double owners berth below, and a convertible other twin berth available on the main deck. A shower head is located below, while the galley is situated on the more comfortable and fresh main deck. The compact but well planned aft deck offers an interesting C-shaped settee to port side. Power is a single shaft propelled Nanni 200hp engine.

Just shy of thirty feet in overall length the 290 Cruiser offers interesting features as a small tender garage under the sun pad, a spacious versatile layout both outside and inside. You also find features seen on bigger boats as an extended bathing platform and spacious side decks. It is good to see that Starfisher is thinking big boat in all areas from the exterior to the interior. Down below the accommodation plan is for a two plus two berths plan found in a convertible V-shaped settee to fore and a mid cabin. A small galley and head complete the lower deck. Power is for a total of five choices between petrol, diesel, single, twin, Volvo and Mercruiser engines.

Projects: Intermarine 75, Intermarine 60

Brazilian Intermarine follows the announcement of its new strategy aimed at establishing an international quality renowned brand, and the showcasing of the new 55 project model with more upcoming projects all set to launch in 2011. Pictured above is the Intermarine 75 project which is designed by renowned architect Luiz De Basto. Measuring an overall length of 77 feet, the 75 is set to be in the water by mid next year. Here Intermarine and Luiz de Basto use there Mediterranean influences to create what is a European styled yacht both outside and inside. A flush main deck inside, and four double guest cabins all with personal heads characterize this very sporty looking motor yacht. The layout follows a traditional European plan with a welcoming saloon, open plan galley, dining table for eight, and helm station. Below is a full beam owners stateroom which features a walk in wardrobe, VIP suite to fore, and two double guest cabins in between. Impressive for this size of boat will be the crew lobby aft, which apart the two cabins will have a small L-shaped sofa, and a small galley with two burner stove and tub. Power for the Intermarine 75 will be standard twin MAN 1360hp giving 30 knots max, or optional faster choice of 1550hp which add top speeds by four nautical miles per hour. Designed again by a renowned architect this time by Brazilian Francesco de Almeida is the Intermarine 60 project. An interesting proposal the 60 has a Brazilian designer builder connection and as all the four projects so far presented by Intermarine new course is set to launch in 2011. The 60 will sit in the middle of the range between the 55 and 75 models. Interestingly going against usual production trends Intermarine has so far used three different designers for its project models; BMW Group DesignworksUSA for the 55, Franceco de Almeida for the 60, and Luiz de Basto for the 75. The 60 like the bigger 75 follows Euro looks both inside and outside. Its lower deck plan is a three double cabins all with private heads, and a two person crew cabin aft. As recent trends dictate the owners suite is a full beam mid ship affair, and a special note is that all three heads will have a separate shower box. The main deck saloon is a split level affair having a C-shaped sofa reserved for entertainment, and the raised part used for the galley, dining and a starboard located helm station. Special notes for the 60 project are the large glassed surfaces which make for a natural light filled environment inside, as is the well laid out flybridge and aft deck. For the 60 Intermarine have also followed a more normal size aft deck in line with current European trends. Tender stowage will be an aft up and down bathing platform. Power is twin Man 900hp which should give a top speed of 33 knots, and 28 cruising.
