Project: GX Superyachts 34 RPH

GX Superyachts has unveiled the project for an upcoming GX34 at the Palm Beach International Boat Show 2025. With sleek, timeless design and fantastic exterior spaces, it is proof positive that responsible design need make no compromise on comfort or functionality. The announcement of the new model comes hot on the heels of news that building work has already begun on the brand’s GX42 flagship. There has been such a clamour of interest around the debut of this exciting new sustainable super yachting business, that it made sense to proceed quickly with a second model. Like its bigger sister, the heart of the GX34 project is the tantalising promise of the full superyacht lifestyle without the full CO2 emissions that usually accompany it. Under the banner of the Responsible Yachting movement, GX Superyachts is spearheading a revolution in the way that even large yachts can maximise electrical power and reduce their reliance on traditional diesel. The result for the GX34 is emissions that are 30% lower than the standard. Through sister company Greenline Yachts, GX Superyachts can draw on decades of experience in hybrid diesel-electric propulsion. The solution combines twin 200kW electric motors with up to 2132kW of diesel power, for the best of both worlds. There is silent and vibration-free electric propulsion over short distances with powerful, efficient internal combustion engines for greater speeds and distances. A vast lithium-ion battery bank of up to 800kWh permits optimum power management. With the option of up to 46 solar panels for. The GX34 RPH set into the superstructure and hard top, the GX34 can generate up to 30MWh of solar energy per year to spend long periods at anchor without the need to switch on the generators. Even with the air conditioning turned right up and the help of the very efficient battery, the yacht can run hotel systems in silent electric mode for up to 48 hours, ensuring guests get a comfortable night’s sleep. And with a greater reliance on natural ventilation, that silent period lengthens considerably. When battery levels fall too low, super-efficient generators start up automatically for rapid three-hour charging. And for longer, faster passages, the twin diesel engines take the strain. In this mode, the electric motors can serve as battery chargers as well, utilising energy ‘wasted’ by the engines. This ensures that the GX34 reaches its destination with full batteries. The GX34 delivers impressive performance, boasting an oceanic range of 10,000 nautical miles in hybrid mode at six knots. It cruises comfortably at twelve knots and can reach a top speed of sixteen knots, depending on the chosen performance package, which includes the option of twin 749kW engines. Larger engine configurations and "Hybrid Sport" packages are currently under study. To create an exceptional product takes exceptional design, so GX Superyachts has assembled a team of internationally prominent designers. Marco Casali is responsible for the exterior looks and the interior styling, while Francesco Rogantin of NAMES has tuned the naval architecture for maximum efficiency and stability. The yacht unveiled at Palm Beach is the raised pilot house RPH variant, with a low-profile flybridge crowning the superstructure. But like all GX Superyachts, there is a Fly and an even slicker Coupe version available, where the roof of the superstructure forms a single elegant convex curve. All models feature a generously shaded guest cockpit aft with dining space and comfortable lounge seating. A sensational entertaining and relaxing space is centred on the lower aft deck, which grows to more than 50 square metres of space when the two side wings are lowered.  There’s the option of a saltwater pool integrated into the aft platform, which has been designed to lift and store a tender up to four meters long. On the GX34 RPH version, the generous flybridge deck can be configured according to the owner’s wishes. Informal dining, epic lounging space and a bar are all part of the vision, and the designers have also studied the option for a Jacuzzi, positioned aft with an unbeatable view. Proportions for the interior are equally grandiose. There are five guest cabins, the jewel of which is naturally the owner’s stateroom, occupying pride of place forward on the main deck. From the owner’s king-size bed, there are sweeping 270-degree views of the horizon through deep glazing. Naturally enough at this scale, the owner is welcome to bring their own designer to the project, but Casali has imagined an interior that perfectly complements the clean, aerodynamic lines of the exterior. It’s all about natural woods, leathers and stones that create a comfortable, calming oasis. These are carefully selected for their sustainability, closing the circle on this yacht’s philosophy of Responsible Yachting.

New Model: Sanlorenzo SD132

In a private ceremony held in Monaco on the first week of April Sanlorenzo presented its new SD132. Coming from a design of Zuccon, the SD132 is the largest ever to come from Sanlorenzo SD line, replacing the SD126 as the flaghsip, but is also the Italian builder largest fiberglass build to date.  Debuting in 2007 with the Paszkowski designed SD92, the SD line was the first initiative of Massimo Perotti new ownership to branch Sanlorenzo in other areas of motor yachting, beyond the offer of modern conservative looking planning motor yachts the respected Viareggio builder was known for at the time.  The SD line proved a winner for Sanlorenzo which as at today has delivered over a hundred hulls, in a total of seven models from 27 to forty meters in size.  This first SD132 was titled m/y Andiamo, which translates in English to Lets Go and also featured interiors designed by the same Zuccon.  While featuring the same classic inspired design the SD132 is full of modern amenities like an expandable beach area with drop down bulk heads which is also connected to the aft deck, and features a bar area with TV, but also a side tender garage, and a second garage on the bow deck.  The Sanlorenzo SD132 unlike other SD models is also asymmetric with it being wide body to starboard of the main deck.  The Sanlorenzo SD132 is powered by twin Man 1650hp or Cat 1622hp for speeds up to seventeen knots, a cruise of thirteen, and maximum range up to 3200 nautical miles.  The Sanlorenzo SD132 has already gone off to a flying start with five other hulls already signed before this first unit was completed.

Frans Heesen 1940 - 2025

It is with deep sorrow that Heesen Yachts announces the passing of its esteemed founder, Frans Heesen. Frans passed away peacefully on Wednesday April 23, aged 85 years old in his hometown of Oss, and is survived by beloved wife Petra, his children, and grandchildren.  A mechanical engineer Frans founded Heesen in 1978, when he purchased the Dutch subsidiary of US Striker boats.  With the purchase of Striker Boats, Frans sees the potential of building aluminium boats rather then the Dutch standard of steel, and will enhance the material even further and into larger sizes over the years.  Proof of this comes in 1979, a year later to the Heesen founding as its launches its first 20 meter yacht as designed by Pieter Beeldsnijder and build of aluminium.  This first build will be proof of Frans spirit of innovation and what will be the defining of Heesen’s future, which is followed again when he decides to embark on the challenge of building the ground-breaking fifty knots or nothing top speed 38 meter hull #7038 as commissioned by American millionaire John Staluppi, with naval architecture by Frank Mulder, and Gerhard Gilgenast and Cor D. Rover taking care of design.  High risks involved this building as Staluppi will include penalty clauses if the yacht will not reach fifty knots, $100,000 for each knot below the targeted speed, and a right of refusal if does not do 48 knots.   Frans will take the order for what will become the famous m/y Octupussy, risking the shipyard’s demise, but ultimately hull #7038 is a triumph for Heesen that will propel the Dutch name to global status among yacht connoisseurs, as it will indeed be the fastest yacht above thirty meters in the eighties reaching a top speed of 53 knots during sea trials.  Frans Heesen will again show his spirit of innovation in 1996 when he will build a new record breaking yacht, as he delivers the 38 meter hull #10137, m/y Obsessions, which will be the largest sportfish yacht of the time.  Courage, exceptional ability, and visionary leadership and instinct to identify and nurture talent have been fundamental to Frans success, which has made over the years Heesen Yachts a story of growth. Frans dedicated his entire life to Heesen, fostering an environment that felt more like a family rather than a business.  Frans will sell Heesen in 2008, although he will stay in the board till 2012, guiding and solidifying the Dutch semi-custom and custom super yacht builder to solidify its success into the future.  Frans’ contributions have left an indelible mark on the motor and super yachting industry and everyone who had the honour of working with him.  Frans presence will be profoundly missed, with his spirit and vision being the backbone and the guiding force of Heesen Yachts today and into the future.

40 Boats and Yachts Destroyed by Fire in Nautica Aqua Olbia Sardinia

Forty boats and yachts from ten to thirty meters in length were destroyed in a super fire at Nautica Aqua yacht yard shed in via Madagascar, Cala Saccaia, Cipnes industrial area, Olbia for a blaze which started just after 15:30 of Tuesday 22 April.  The Olbia, Arzachena and Tempio Vigili dell Fuoco, plus the specialized units of Costa Smeralda airport, coordinated by the Sassari fire station responded to this complicated extinguishing operation, which with a shed full of boats and yachts, made it become an oven fuelled by glass fibre and the fuel inside the vessels.  The fire fighting operation lasted till the following morning, and seventeen hours to turn off and extinguish.  In a miracle no one was injured in this fire with the exception of one yard worker which suffered little smoke inhalation and was treated on the spot.  The 118 Emergency helicopter was also involved, along with the local police and Carabinieri.  It is not confirmed how the fire started, if from a boat or yacht, or an electrical failure in the shed, with an investigation being opened to find out on what really happened.
Nautica Aqua was founded in 2012 by Raffaele Virdis a previous service manager with Ferretti Group, and Gruppo Gaias a property developer from the area.  With this synergy Nautica Aqua grew fast, operating two big sheds; Aqua and Aquarius adjacent to each other in Madagascar street.
It will be impossible to note all the boats and yachts in this fire, but information has come that a Cerri 86 Flying Sport, Itama 50, Magnum 53 Maltese, and an Otam 65 have been lost.  We will update this list if more information will come along.

Engine: Baudouin 6F21 1000hp

Baudouin present the 6F21, a six-cylinder, 12.5-liter engine producing up to 1000hp, enabling a best-in-class power density in a very compact and light original marine design. This level of performance was achieved not by a single development, but by evolution in multiple technologies. The 6F21 includes a strengthened engine structure to withstand high torque and a higher cylinder pressure well over 200 bar. A two-stage turbocharger system is also fitted on the engine, along with two intercoolers, and a high-end common rail system, operating at 2200 bar. To keep the overall weight down, light materials have been utilized. In the 6F21 every part that can be made of aluminium, is made of aluminium. Cast iron and steel are only used when stress and temperature demand it. Flywheel housing, the oil sump, covers, brackets, supports, and even heat exchanger bodies are all constructed from light alloys. The end result is a high power and lightweight engine, but one that still promises a long life, with the robustness that Baudouin are known for. Every 6F21 engine also has optimized maintenance for low total cost of ownership, and complies with IMO II and EPA III standards, with IMO III and EPA IV following soon. The 6F21 delivers a genuine marine design with marine components, such as individual cylinder heads that make maintenance easy, even in the smallest of engine rooms. The fuel filters are mounted in the front to allow an easy and quick maintenance, and there is no need to dismantle any part of the engine in order to reach a component. The latest safe technology is also included as standard, such as double wall HP pipes, a protected rail, fuel leak sensor, and marine-approved components and monitoring systems. Like all Baudouin units, these are not ‘marinized’ truck engines, but specialized products designed for the challenges of working life at sea. The 6F21 is available in the two other duty ratings with continuous compact power. This includes best-in-class for power output at intermittent duty 815hp, and light duty 900hp. Overall, the Baudouin 6F21 is one of the best engines in-class for power density throughout all three duty ratings.

Project: Itama 54

Ferretti Group looks back to Itama, as it presents the totally new 54 project as designed by Tommaso de Luca.  A totally new Itama has long been coming since 2009 and the Fifty, the last totally new model from the Ferretti Group owned iconic blue and white open yacht, and as the new models which came from 2012, like the 45 and 62 and subsequent S and RS were all in reality evolutions of the Forty and FiftyFive from 2006 and 2007 respectively.  For this new Itama 54 project Ferretti Group bring new designer Tommaso de Luca, a previous Luca Bassani of Wally prodigy, who will have to bring a cautious evolution side, against the revolutionary one he was taught.  De Luca replaces Marco Casali, who marked the Ferretti's Group Itama since they own the name from the end 2024, with his designs bringing success and a soft evolution respecting the name to the letter.  54 means also a second generation model, with the Mario Amati Itama 54 as produced from 1985 to 2001 being also the flagship till 1996.  For his first Itama De Luca brings traditional input in this new 54 like the windshield which is similar to the Mario Amati 1986 launched 45, which then evolved as 46 in 1995, and then the 50 in 2003, with new evolutions incoming; see angle outwards stern, and fore deck which is not flush and drops slightly down in the middle section, and will also integrate a sun-pad.  The 54 will also feature window glazing serving the cabin area on the hull side.  The accommodation on the cockpit is superb, and the Itama 54 will feature spaces nearly competing with those of the 62; a C-shaped lounger forward, a C-shaped dinette, the large sun-pad aft with storage underneath all lying to starboard, with helm station and wet-bar behind it to port side.  The Itama 54 lower deck will feature two cabins, two bathrooms, a galley and a dinette.  The spacious master cabin forward contains a central bed with two large storage drawers in the base and two wardrobes. The guest cabin located to midships can be furnished with a queen-size bed or bunk beds. Next to the fully appointed galley is a dinette with a sofa and a table.  The Itama 54 will be powered by twin Man 730hp as standard or optional 850hp with line shaft propulsion, with top speeds of 33 knots and 37 knots respectively.  The first new Itama 54 should arrive in the half of this year.

Project: Tankoa S520

Tankoa looks forward to its success, and follows the popularity of the fifty metre S501 semi custom platform, with the project of the S520 which was revealed during the 2025 Palm Beach boat show.  Coming again from the drawing board of Francesco Paszkowski, the new Tankoa S520 lengthens the S501 platform from fifty to 52 metres whilst maintaining the same winning proportions found on the previous model.  The S520 is a refreshed and two meter larger S501, in both exterior design and layout choices, with three key differences; expanded stern area, floor to ceiling windows, and more exterior spaces.  A key distinction between the S520 and the S501 can be found in the significant enhancement of the outdoor spaces on offer. This includes a longer and wider sun deck, which now comes complete with an infinity pool, an enlarged upper deck sky-lounge and an extended flybridge.  Paszkowski has reimagined the stern of the S520 so that it joins the main deck, aft platform and beach club seamlessly, thus creating the ultimate beach club concept.  This light-filled space has flexible spaces which can be arranged for a plethora of different purposes, split across two levels and opens up onto two side platforms, resulting in unparalleled contact with the ocean.  Benefitting from three light sources, a porthole facing the pool and two side portholes along the hull this space also features two sunbathing areas protected by glass which are integrated into the hull and enable usability even while cruising.  The cleverly incorporated ‘functional elements’ found in the S520 are numerous, but of note is the crane for the tender at the bow, which has been integrated into the overall design, rather than appearing as a separate technical component. Furthermore, the gangway is seamlessly built into the aft platform, majorly boosting the liveability of this space.  Relocating the staircases to the port side which serves to expand the upper deck aft and establish a fully-dedicated entertainment area the upper deck forward is purely dedicated to toy storage: ideal for the current and future generation of adventurous owners.  For the interior the standard offer is the established collaboration between Francesco Paszkowski and Margherita Casprini, the two designers have collaborated on a number of Tankoa projects over the years from the recently launched T580, the first S501, the S501 Evo, and S701.  Although being a semi custom platform, an owner can still bring his interior designer of choice.  The S520 interior is all about high ceilings and large windows than her predecessor, the architectural choices made by Paszkowski feature overlapping panels and partitions which create intentional fragmentation within the spaces for a distinctively modern effect. On the main deck, the living and dining areas are separated by panels whilst still remaining highly unified spaces. The elements found in the generous owner’s stateroom; a bedroom, lounge, study, walk-in wardrobe and vanity area, function as independent yet connected spaces. The rounded shapes and materials found here effortlessly link areas between floors and ceilings.  Indeed, throughout the S520 the carefully chosen materials cleverly join the different areas, with the subtle grey-toned colour palette extending into the furnishings and reinforcing the strong visual link between interior and exterior spaces.  The Tankoa S502 is to be powered by twin Man 1430hp engines for a top speed up to sixteen knots, a cruise of fifteen, and a long range up to 3750 nautical miles at twelve knots.

Improve-it = Van der Valk Beach Club 660

Van der Valk has launched a Beach Club 660, the fourth hull in the Beach Club series and third 660. Titled m/y Fabchun this latest BeachClub 660 follows the three previous sistership of installing the engines under the swim platform area, freeing up space for the inside rooms and aft area. Built entirely in aluminium, and powered by twin Volvo Penta 800hp with IPS pod drives this latest Van der Valk Beach Club 660 has a top speed of thirty knots. This will ensure that the feeling of calm created by Carla Guilhem’s soothing interior is retained at all times. Key design elements include the geometric looking stairs, a kitchen island that doubles as a bar and a day head in a funky black colour. Large windows and sliding doors in the two salons as well the owners’ suite will provide panoramic vistas as the owners and their guests explore the seas in true BeachClub style.

This space is open on three sides allowing guests to move freely between the various settings as well as providing greater interconnection between the Beach Platform and the indoor Beach Club. Two fourteen-meter fold-down side doors and a spacious swim platform connect the Beach Club directly to the sea, creating a seamless, immersive experience. Spanning a total of 270 square meters, this exclusive Beach Area offers guests an unparalleled connection to the water. Liveaboard Yacht Aground in Key West Florida

A sixteen meter trawler type aft cabin explorer yacht ended aground and partly sank in Bahia Honda, Key West, Florida on the morning of Saturday twelfth April.  The explorer yacht which is a live aboard for three; one man and his two sisters and a dog, is reported to have hit an object and started to take on water.  Seeing this the captain anchored at the bay, with the boat then ending partly sunk and listing to its starboard side, damaging its central keel, and running gear.  With the tide becoming a bit lower by Tuesday fifteen April, the explorer cruiser was righted by the crew and the people who are helping, with the next aim now to  make a temporary repair so they can take the yacht to a haul out yard for full repairs.  Interestingly and according to Trawler Tom who is sharing the story on social media said the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conversation Commission, US Coast Guard, local police, park rangers were watching the story happen but did not intervene.
Trawler Tom who has been assisting the trawler since the accident, also opened a fund raiser on GoFundMe of which I will post a link on the comments section.
The explorer yacht in this part sinking is a Gulfstar 53 Trawler as produced from 1975 to 76 in ten units.  The 53 Trawler shared hull with the 53 Motorsailor, with both models being Gulfstar flagships in that time of production, with the model replaced by the full planning hull 48 Motor Yacht in 1981.  Gulfstar Yachts was founded by Vince Lazzara and existed from 1970 to 1990, and produced both sail and power boats, with the company selling some of its assets to Viking.
