New Model: Azimut 66 Flybridge

At the Düsseldorf boat show 2016, held in the last week of January Azimut premiered the new 66 Flybridge, again an example of the ability to innovate that has made the Italian yacht builder a World leader. The 66 is part of the Flybridge range, the most classic and long standing of Azimut’s collections, and the one which has seen the most important renewal of  stylistic and technical content over the past years and decades, always making the Italian builder a leader with the innovation it brought to the flybridge motor yacht. The process of renewal of the range began with the Azimut 80 in 2013, to continue with the 50 in 2014 and the recent 72, unveiled in September. And so the team of Azimut technicians has been faced with the difficult task of producing a new twenty meter motor yacht combining all the innovations appearing in the most recent models of the new collection, a process that has transformed the Azimut 66 into a true icon representing the entire range. Harmonious lines of the 66, designed by long standing since 1990's  Azimut designer Stefano Righini, with the hallmark shark’s fin shaped side window, the particularly spacious elongated flybridge and the fore deck area transformed into an exclusive lounge. The carbon fibre superstructure makes the vessel considerably lighter and increases its interior volume. Designer Carlo Galeazzi, who worked on the interiors of the Azimut 66 with the shipyard’s styling office, not only came up with the usual refined decor but focused his attention on the need to optimize use of space, obtaining extra storage space in the already ample interior volumes to make an even more convenient motor yacht.

Project: Cruisers 54 Cantius

It's been an interesting turn around for Cruisers in recent times, with the new flagship 60 Cantius designed by Facheris fully embracing European style design.  The Cantius range showed up in 2010 with the 41 and since then this has been the point of reference from Cruisers.  Now the US builder sets its game up again and introduces a smaller sister to the flagship, with the project of the 54 Cantius. Like the 60 and all Cantius for that matter, the 54 is a fully enclosed open hard top sport yacht with patio door. The 54 has a standard layout of three cabins; VIP suite to fore, third bunk cabin to starboard, and a full beam owners room at midships with a very large sized walk in wardrobe.  An option is available to change the third cabin with a lounge sofa.  Power for the Cruisers 54 Cantius come from twin Volvo 725hp with IPS pod drives propulsion.

Mario Amati 1933 - 2016

Mario Amati, unforgettable founder of Cantieri Navali di Roma, Itama, which he established in Rome in 1969, has passed away Saturday 20th February at the age of 83.  Mario Amati was a brilliant designer, and the innovator of a unique style of iconic sport cruisers and yachts. Amati was also a technical innovator having been the inventor to launch the hull integrated underwater exhaust system in 1981. Open yachts designed by those who love the sea for those who adore it, the Itama brand name recalls the surname of the founder, read backwards in the sea.  The big fiberglass open models which started with the 38 in 1980 immediately became popular as cult objects owing to their elegance and simplicity of lines, the reliability of their technologies, their strong character and their precise stylistic imprint.  Mario Amati sold a big part of Itama to the Opera fund of Bulgari in 2001, who then sells the brand name to Ferretti Group in end 2004.

Hatteras New Web Site

World famous yacht builder Hatteras presents its new virtual World wide web showroom. North Carolina's Hatteras was founded in 1959 by Willis Slane, and in March of the following year launched its first model a 41 foot twin cabin sportfish christened Knit Wits designed by Jack Hargrave. It broke tradition at the time for being the first boat produced with fiberglass in this size. Testimony to the quality of Hatteras and the good choice of fiberglass the Knit Wits is as today at a near to fifty years still in service, and was recently refitted to mark a showing in the 2013 Fort Lauderdale boat show. Two years after the launch of Knit Wits, Hatteras followed it with a second model the 41 Double Cabin, this time of a motor cruiser style. In 1967 Hatteras due to increasing demand for its boats added a second factory along the one in High Point, in the coastal town of New Bern also in North Carolina, this in 1997 replacing totally the original premises. Innovation was always part of Hatteras DNA not only in the beginning but during all its current story introducing a number of firsts like the quick-disconnect device in 1980, first production builder to use five bladed propellers in 1985, using integrated propeller tunnels in fifty feet plus yachts, and the convex hull as introduced on the 54 Convertible in 2002. After Slane Hatteras featured various owners over its story which included AMF, Genmar, and Brunswick in 2001.  Last year 2013 in Summer, Brunswick sold to Versa Capital Management. The current line up from North Carolina's most famous boat builder offers eleven models in three ranges: Motor Yachts, Convertibles, and Express.  The entry level model is the 45 Express introduced in the fall of 2014, flagship is the Summer 2013 launched 100 Raised Pilothouse, while the latest new model is the 70 Motor Yacht.  The new Hatteras web site takes you around with the following buttons: Models, Experience, Request, Our Story, and Find a Dealer.  Hatteras also features its social hubs; Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, and Pinterest with button links located at the bottom of the page.

Project: Carver C50 Command Bridge

It's been an interesting design evolution for Carver since the builder launched the contemporary looking C34.  Some models make a design turn around for a builder, and the C34 when launched in 2013 did just that for Carver.  Since then the range has all become similar in looks to this break through model, with the five models all representing a further next evolution to the C series. The latest new C50 Command Bridge from Carver is a spacious yacht with a large three double cabin interior.  Apart the spaciousness, the C50 also impresses for its layout, see private entrance to the full beam owners cabin. It also impresses even more when one sees the dimensions of the C50 Command Bridge, short of fifteen meters in length, and less to five meters in beam. Power options are also versatile starting from small standard 480hp, to optional 600 and 715hp Cummins engines.
