Propulsion: Volvo IPS 40

Volvo Penta IPS range introduces a new, larger marine drive, the IPS 40. The new Volvo Penta IPS 40 drive is designed with a pioneering dual power input concept, which manages the power to the water in the most efficient way, but also acts an important enabler to utilize different combinations of energy sources. Starting series production in 2025, the new Volvo Penta IPS 40 drive will be powered by two Volvo Penta D13 1000hp engines, paired with a compact after treatment system to comply with the latest IMO Tier III standards. But, the platform is already prepared for a mix of power sources; from combustion engines running on renewable fuels to fully electric or hybrid solutions. The dual power input design offers flexibility and modularity on the journey towards increased sustainability. The new Volvo Penta IPS 40, as usual to the IPS platform can be installed as twin, triple or quad, meaning each vessel will have from 4 to 8 power sources. The complete package from helm to propeller is designed, verified and serviced by one integrator Volvo Penta. Volvo IPS 40 can be fitted on vessel from from 25 to 55 meters, dual up to twin 1000hp engines per driveline, twin, triple or quad drivelines and up to 8000hp per vessel, new counter-rotating propeller series in bronze, possibility to install to displacement, semi-planning and planning vessels and speeds from twelve to forty knots, steering angle up to forty degrees with dual electrical steering motors, Gear ratio 2.91, and integrated package with compact SCR system

Ten Boats Burned in Marseille Marina Fire

A fire in Estaque Marina in Marseille on Tuesday 27 June at about 1430 hours burned ten small boats from five to about eight meters in length.  Fifty fire fighters, sixteen fire engines, and two fire fighting boats from Marseille rushed to the scene to control the flames which they managed to extinguish at 18:00 hours.  Of the ten boats, six are totally burned, with the other four having fire damage.  Three boons where deployed around the fire area and damaged boats in order to contain pollution.
Estaque Marina is located to North West of Marseille, about four nautical miles by sea and ten kilometres of road distance from the sea side city.

Project: Rio 45 Daytona

Rio presents the Daytona 45 project, set to debut in the fall of 2023. This new 45 follows on the footsteps on the ten meter S model which debuted the Daytona range in 2020, and fourteen meter L model from 2021.  Again a project of Marino Alfani the Rio 45 Daytona is a sport cruiser with walk around features.  Two large side bulkheads one to each side which are about 25% of the boat length and will flip downward and extend the aft deck floor space and create a massive beach club.  These bulkheads are among the largest per length of boat, and when down and open the floor space in the area is increased by about 50% compared to when it is closed.  The Rio Daytona 45 will offer a lower deck interior sleeping four and a galley.  The standard accommodation area presents itself with a forward island double, and a midships cabin with twin berths.  A tender garage is also located aft, but probably if one would take the outboard options, this is lost, as the Daytona 45 has the feature of having the outboard engines hidden under the aft sun-pad. The Rio Daytona 45 is to be powered by twin Yanmar 370hp diesel engines with stern drive propulsion, which will give speed up to 38 knots.  Petrol gas outboard option is also available from twin Mercury 400hp with top speeds up to 44 knots.

Classic Trawler Burns Down Near San Juan Islands

A classic eleven meter trawler explorer cruiser with two persons onboard went ablaze near San Juan Islands, Washington on the morning of Saturday 24th June.  After making a distress call the two boaters where assisted and off boarded to safety by a nearby boater, with the trawler left to burn, that is until Cascade Pacific Sea Scouts heard the VHF call and turned on the scene with SSS Propeller to control the blaze on the boat.  The Cascade Pacific Sea Scouts controlled the blaze until a fire boat from Seattle arrived to the scene and continued fire fighting operations.  The SSS Propeller had just departed into a ten day trip Summer event, when they heard the VHF distress call, and turned on the scene 35 minutes later.
The explorer cruiser in this fire is a hard to decipher Grand Banks 36 similar unit.  The first call in this would be an Island Gypsy 36 but it has different straight shear line, and then a Monk 36 Classic, but here again we have a different railing and windows serving the aft cabin.

Motor Yacht Burns and Sinks in Korcula Channel

A 21 meter yacht titled m/y La Belle with Croatian flag and four persons onboard, went on fire and then sank in the Korcula channel, North Dalmatia islands in Croatia on Saturday 24 June at around 13:00 hours.  The motor yacht was cruising in the Korcula channel between the islands of Korcula, Hvar, and Vis when it developed a fire.  Immediate the response of the Croatia safety agencies with a rescue boat departing the port of Lostovo first on the scene and saving the four crew members, and a fire brigade from Smokvica arriving a bit later to extinguish the yacht fire, with no success as it eventually burned down and sank in a depth of about seventy meters.  No injuries where sustained by the four crew, and the yacht left no pollution in the aftermath of the fire.  According to the crew testimony the yacht fire was developed from one of the engines.
M/y La Belle is a 1994 Yaretti 2110 reported refitted in 2015.  Yaretti was founded in 1987 by Austrian Walter Sigl with boats sub contracted and build by Horizon in Taiwan.  For example the Yaretti 2110 was based around the Horizon 58 Pantera launched in 1990, extended in length for the extra cabin and some styling differences.  Yaretti stopped production in around the end nineties to restart in 2003 and then stop again in the 2008 financial crisis.  In its second life Yaretti also sold two 2520, 25 meters super yachts.

Project: Feadship 36.5 m Bahamas

Here at PowerYacht we love it when some of the famous names in yachting go out of there comfort zone, and present something different to what they usually are doing in recent times.  This new 36 meter Feadship project Bahamas is just about that, as today the Dutch builder is very rarely seen going in under the forty meter mark. Last build under forty meters was launched in 2017, and before that it was 2008.  Project Bahamas was presented by Feadship during the Palm Beach boat show in March 2023, with some rendering shared on its social media platforms.  She comes from a design of Dutch firm De Voogt and Italian FM Nautica who do the interior.  To be built of aluminium Feadship project Bahamas is one of the modern takes from the renowned Dutch super yacht builder with seamless main and lower decks, creating a clean and minimal yet sporty profile, thanks to the use of clean lines without curves.  Feadship project Bahamas will also feature an extendable beach club aft, with a splash pool and side lowering bulk heads.  Accommodation will be for four double guest cabins, including of which is an owners stateroom forward of the main deck.  Feadship project Bahamas is also a very ecological concept in terms of materials used for its construction, with a proposal to make the floor made with a stone-marble-resin matrix replacing teak.

Super Yacht Vandalized in Ancora Marina Germany

A 32 meter super yacht titled m/y Lady M III was spray painted as a protest by green activists on the nineteen June in Ancora Marina, Neustadt, located in the North of Germany on the Baltic sea to the East of Hamburg.  The activists Letze Generation which translates to Last Generation filmed the activity on social media platforms and wrote a post for policy change against excess in consumption by the super rich.
While everyone has a right to protest in liberal democracies, this is a total wrong way of passing a message.  Probably the emissions generated by all yachts all around the World is less to point zero one per cent, and this is just a stupid way to make a show out of nothing.
M/y Lady M III is a 1994 Moonen 105 designed by Mulder.   While she is the only Moonen 105 build, she had a similar design to the smaller Moonen 83 which sold in five units, and the 80 and 89 one off units.

Each of the four decks on Van der Valk 111.11 has been designed to meet specific needs on a yacht with a fold-out platform aft and a lazarette for jet-skis that will be a superb relaxation area in its own right. In fact, everything about Project 111.11 revolves around entertaining large groups of people in style on a compact boat with lots of volume.
The second project by Van der Valk titled Samba is also based on the 34m Explorer hull, although she will be that one meter longer in length, thanks to its extended bathing platform.  Van der Valk 35m Project Samba is again a build for experienced hands-on owners, with again Guido de Groot taking design duties, with everything from the waterline up on this delightful all-aluminium tri-deck superyacht being custom guided. The interiors, fully customisable as is always the case on Mangusta yachts, have been pencilled by Overmarine's technical department architects working in concert with the Owner, coordinated by Sales Manager Nicolò Strocco, who oversaw the sale. The Mangusta Oceano 39 is powered by twin MTU 1700hp engines that deliver a cruising speed of twelve knots, and a maximum speed of sixteen with a range of up to 2,600 nautical miles, always ensuring Mangusta's traditional noiselessness and, therefore, unmatched comfort.  Also available is a more powerful twin MTU 2600hp which allow the Mangusta Oceano 39 to reach a cruising speed of eighteen knots and a maximum twenty. Overmarine is already into three hulls of the Mangusta 39 Oceano, with the third hull build as speculation and available for a new owner and an expected delivery in around the end of 2024.

Unattended Flybridge Cruiser Sinks in Grado

An attended eleven meter flybridge cruiser partly sank in Grado, in the Northern part of the Adriatic sea on the morning of fifteen June.  The flybridge cruiser was reported to uncared and near abandoned status for some time, with marina users reporting the danger of a sinking to the management.  Grado is a sea-side town village located just in the middle between Venice and Trieste, and in the region of Friuli-Venezia-Giulia.  The sea-side town boasts four busy marinas because of the not far away distance from the Croatian and its hundred of islands coast.
The boat in this sinking looks to be a Dellapasqua Carnevali 11 from the seventies.  These boats where usually build with a fiberglass hull and wood super structure, and powered by Ford or GM diesel engines with line shaft propulsion.

Project: C-Tender 53

Custom Yacht is the new brand of Mauro Corvisieri, who in the first decade of the noughties entered into the scene with the C.Boat range of super and explorer yachts from eighteen to 27 meters.  With Custom Yachts that project should continue but is joined by this new C-Tender series, which debuted with the outboard powered C-Tender 40, and is now followed by this C-Tender 53 which is in final stages of construction. The Custom Yacht C-Tender 53 comes from a design of Valentino E. Gabriele and Francesco Rogantin, and is a walk around sport yacht of sixteen meters in length.  The C-Tender 53 will offer three lower deck interior choice layouts; three double cabins, two cabins plus crew with a three berths second guest cabin, and large open plan double at midships.  The C-Tender 53 is to be standard powered by Volvo 440hp, optional  600hp both these with IPS pod propulsion, and or triple Mercury 450hp outboards with gas petrol.

Sea Ray Boat Crashes Into Irondequoit Pier

An eight meter Sea Ray sport cruiser with one person onboard crashed into the pier of Irondequoit Bay, New York on 22:20 hours of Friday thirtieth June.  Monroe County Sheriff Office, US Coast Guard, Sea Breeze ambulance, and New York State Police responded to the call about the collision, with the sole person onboard taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for minor facial injuries. After receiving treatment the person onboard the vessel was arrested and charged for operating the boat intoxicated and without a boaters safety certificate.  The boat was removed the following morning by TowBoatU.S.
The Sea Ray sport cruiser in this collision is a fourth generation 270 Sundancer as produced from 1998 to 2001.  The fourth generation 270 Sundancer was a replacement to the third generation 270 Sundancer, and was replaced by the second generation Sea Ray 280 Sundancer.

New Model: Delta 48 Coupe

Swedish Delta Powerboats has been an interesting boat builder to watch, standing out from the crowd with a practical but yet innovative product offer.  Celebrating twenty years in business in 2023, Delta being founded in 2003, there is no better way to celebrate with a new model, and here comes this 48 Coupe.  This new 48 Coupe is probably the most complete of all the Delta's that came before her, not that they were missing something, but this one has something suiting more the masses in its appearance, interior layout, and fuel consumption.  The Delta 48 Coupe is a sport cruiser with a performance attitude and while her 42 knots top speed number is not super high with the standard twin 440hp Volvo diesel on stern drives, its stepped deep Vee hull with 22 degrees deadrise say another story, which also translates in efficiency and an impressive 500 nautical mile range. The surprises from the Delta 48 Coupe do not stop here, and once you are onboard it delivers again impressive creature comforts below, with a three double cabins layout, and a living dining galley area located on the main deck.
