New Launch: CRN 72m hull.139

On thirteen March a new full-custom CRN super yacht was launched today at the Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard. The CRN 139 Project has been christened in a private ceremony. 72 metres long, over twelve meters in beam and with a gross tonnage of 1,880 GT, the vessel has been designed and built by CRN, which also developed the entire naval architecture. The concept and the exterior lines were created by design and architecture studio Vallicelli Design, while architects Nuvolari Lenard took care of the interiors and their subdivision together with the yard. The result is a fully bespoke 72-metre steel and aluminium yacht spanning 6 decks and accommodating up to twelve guests and nineteen crew. The CRN M/Y 139 is a super yacht with a striking sense of style. She combines functional and design solutions in a sophisticated overall harmony, while the superstructure exudes an essential visual concision emphasised by the smooth external lines that impart an original, elegant aesthetic. This sublime fully custom super yacht vaunts extremely generous internal and external spaces, devised to offer the owner family a memorable on-board living experience in total privacy and comfort. Among the many standout features, the large full-height windows lend a softness to the lines, offsetting her impressive dimensions. The new 72-metre CRN M/Y 139 is a supreme expression of CRN’s design and construction skill – that talent for creating unique, distinctive designs that reflect and enhance their owners’ vision, personality and style. Another three full-custom CRN yachts are currently under construction at the Ferretti Group Superyacht Yard, the multi-brand hub in Ancona stretching over almost 80,000 sqm. These are the 67-metre hull.143, the 85-metre hull.144, and the 70-metre hull.145. Also taking shape there are a Ferretti Custom Line Navetta 50, a Pershing 140 #03 and Pershing 140 #04 in aluminium, plus a Riva 50Metri #03 and a Riva Superyacht Division 54Metri in aluminium and steel. In addition, the entire Ferretti Custom Line production output is being built there too, with 27 yachts now under construction in the sheds or at the finishing and testing stages at the docks prior to delivery to their owners.

New Model: Cantiere Delle Marche RJ 115

Cantiere delle Marche has launched the first RJ 115 model, titled m/y Stellamar this is the second RJ series following the 130 launched in 2021.  The RJ series stems from a fruitful collaboration between the yard’s team and the talented Francesco Paszkowski who has developed a successful series of contemporary modern explorer yachts with an RJ 130 delivered and two more RJ 115 and RJ 155 in the pipeline, this commissioned by the owner of ,/y Stellamar.  Needless to add that this represents an attestation of trust for Cantiere delle Marche and provides a further reference within the yachting community. All models in the RJ line share a strong personality characterized by extremely well-balanced volumes and proportions throughout the design, as well as those characterizing features as, for example the invisible crane.  The RJ 115 project pays respect to the most exquisite yacht design tradition while implementing it with highly sophisticated design solutions. An extensive use of glass in the bulwarks and the open stern enhance the visual continuity with the surrounding environment. RJ 115 profile is tense yet it encompasses sensuous lines that add an unrivalled elegance to her exterior design. With this project, Francesco Paszkowski shows that medium size dimensions are not the enemy of creativity as they make it more effective. Paszkowski succeeded in providing the 35m super yacht with large spaces and luxury amenities while staying true to her explorer yacht’s soul, a peculiarity which sets Cantiere delle Marche from the other players in the super yacht industry.  The RJ 115 is an elegant yet robust, reliable, environment friendly, long range explorer super yacht with unrivalled technical equipment that allow her Owner, family and friends to enjoy safe journeys to the most remote and secluded areas of the globe. For all technical aspects, CdM has drawn not only on the expertise of its in-house design and engineering department but also that of long-standing partner Hydro Tec entrusted for the naval architecture.  The interior layout of this first RJ 115 was tailored to the Owner family’s specific needs and provides ensuite accommodation for eight guests in four lower deck cabins, and a master stateroom on the main deck forward. A crew of seven has their quarters on the Lower deck in three cabins while the Captain’s is next to the wheelhouse on the Upper deck.  A cleverly designed layout offers easy circulation and a functional connection between the decks with all exterior stairs located on the port side and large side walkways. Great emphasis has been given to outdoor areas with large lounging/dining areas on all decks. Yet, should you have enough of sun and wind, when you enter the Main or Upper salon you don’t lose contact with the outdoors as vast windows light the rooms while visually connecting them to the sea beyond.  On the Lower deck you realize that natural light and views are not reserved solely to the upper decks as all four guest cabins on the Lower deck, two Vip and two twin cabins, are indeed bright and airy thanks to large windows.  The yacht’s interior design and decoration are easy on the eye and shapes remain just as soft as the neutral colour palette. Textures of both wood and fabrics also play a central role by echoing materials found in nature. The interior decoration of Stellamar, in its entirety, work in harmony creating warm and welcoming environments. An extensive use of bright natural oak for flooring and ceilings and cream leather wall panelling gives the interior a soothing atmosphere throughout the yacht, in both social and private areas. Paszkowski designed all fixed furniture and chose, together with the Owners, most of the loose furniture and accessories by renowned manufacturers such as the Arpège Meridienne sofas by Christian Liaigre for the lounging area in the Main Salon, the Poliform Saint Germain sofa in the Skylounge, armchairs Archibald by Poltrona Frau, Cassina Hola chairs in the dining area whose table boasts a beautiful Breccia Aurora marble top. All bathrooms share the same bright and relaxing mood thanks to matt white statuary marble coupled to natural oak. The shower stall in the Owner’s bath is equipped with infra-red sauna and hammam.  The RJ 115 is a full-displacement explorer vessel with steel hull and aluminium superstructure. and powered by twin heavy-duty Caterpillar 724hp each  allows for range of around 5500nm at an economic speed of nine knots.

Improve-it = Tornado 38

In the fall of 2022 Tornado launched its latest improved 38 model.  This latest Tornado 38 is powered by twin FPT 450hp with line shaft propulsion.  Other shown improvements to the 38 where the new glazed windows on the hull side which replaced the traditional port hole windows.  An iconic model the 38 was launched by Tornado in 1985, inspired not little from the Magnum 38 from the sixties and seventies and produced in over five hundred units over the years in four variants; Classic/Sport, Flush Deck, Sedan, and the Cruising version.  The popular first two versions signified a different cockpit layout, with the Sedan launched in mid nineties being the rare hardtop version, and the Cruising from 2010 offering a more spacious lower deck and a revised cockpit layout.  A T-Tender 38 project presented in 2018 never materialized.  Today the Tornado 38 is simply called by its size with the model being similar in layout and cockpit to the Flush Deck version.  A Tornado 38 with shafts is not completely new, as the Italian builder build a few of these on order back in the eighties and nineties.  Going into its fiftieth birthday in 2025, it will be interesting to see if Tornado will do something special to celebrate its forever classic 38.

Project: Van Der Valk 21.27 metre Project Micamo

Van der Valk Shipyard in the Netherlands is taking its fully custom approach to the next level with the 21.27-metre Project Micamo. This bespoke flybridge motoryacht has been ordered by a client with precise requirements in terms of range and led to new rules being set by the Japanese flag state authorities. With a sophisticated exterior and interior by Guido de Groot Design, Project Micamo is set to showcase the finest Dutch craftsmanship to Japan in a unique way when delivered. It also confirms how far Van der Valk is prepared to go to meet custom demands. The owner of Project Micamo is keen to sail on his own keel to the Ogasawara Islands, a UNESCO World Heritage site located some 500 nautical miles south of the main Japanese archipelago. A 24-hour ferry service runs to the archipelago from Tokyo and the maritime authorities have strict rules in place for commercial vessels that are equivalent to those applied to container ships. No regulations were in place, however, for a 20-metre pleasure craft making such lengthy passages so these had to be specifically adapted for Project Micamo. Months of dedicated engineering, careful calculations, stability booklet updates and more have underpinned construction of the hull.  Van der Valk Project Micamo will feature a four double cabins layout with an owners stateroom at midships, while the main deck will offer a more a more traditional central galley plan.  Project Micamo is to be powered by twin Volvo 1000hp with IPS pod drives for estimated top speeds up to 29 knots.

Beneteau New Web Site

Beneteau headlining brand of Groupe Beneteau presents its new web site. Beneteau was founded 1884 in Vendee by fully qualified ship builder Benjamin Beneteau, who sets up a boat yard with the family name building trawlers for fisherman. 24 years pass and as any builder who beats the age of time Benjamin sets provocation in motion when in 1910 he builds the first engine boat called "Vainqueur des Jaloux", Conqueror of the Jealous in English which sets a lot of drama and also gets accused this is scaring the fish away. In 1928 Andre Beneteau son of Benjamin takes over yard management duties, and two years later he shows the way forward building "Le Jeannot" a faster design trawler which he christens Poursuivante, translated in English to Pursuer. It is 1945 the ending of World War II, which prompts Vendee and the fishing fleet of the area needing a total rebuild, and Andre pursues his creativity by presenting the first trawler boats with bridges. This is followed in 1955 with more tuna fisherman thinking creating the first live bait storage. In 1964 the third generation Beneteau boat builders Annette Beneteau Roux, brother Andre, and husband Louis-Claude Roux take the helm pursuing the road into recreational boats and the use of fiberglass as a building material. A year later passes and Beneteau exhibits for the first time at the Paris boat show presenting the Peches Promenade concept of fishing pleasure boats. 1967 Beneteau follows more its production instincts launching the Forban and Galion models which achieve great success and are followed by another break through of Baroudeur a pleasure cruiser with living aboard comfort. 1973 sees Andre Beneteau responsible for design present the 32 Evasion first two masted yacht from the brand, and two years later this is followed by what the critics call one of his best projects the Astroblade. Between this in 1974 Beneteau launches a still today model range, its first planning motor boat the Antares, and in 1976 the 30 First designed by Andre Mauric is presented. This also marking a line which is still as at today existent. 1981 sees designer German Frers present the First 42, recognized at the time as one of the most stable sailboats. In 1982 Beneteau is recognized as the largest production boat builder of the time. A century has passed since its founding in 1984 and Beneteau goes public on the Paris stock exchange. This is followed by more production facilities two years later when Beneteau opens a new building plant in Marion, South Carolina USA. 1987 sees the launch of another line with the Oceanis designed by Philippe Briand, and another innovative 35.5 First with project by Philippe Starck and Jean Berret is launched. In 1992 Groupe Beneteau is founded today featuring twelve boat building brands: Beneteau, Jeanneau, Lagoon, Prestige, CNB, Monte Carlo Yachts, in 2014 it Four Winns, Glastron, Wellcraft, Scarab all USA brands, and in 2018 Delphia from Poland and Seascape from Slovenia.  Beneteau current line up features a total eight different ranges of sailing, motor cruisers, and motor yachts; which start with the First 14 and go up to the Grand Trawler 62. New Model: AB Yachts 80

Spring 2023 has started rather busy for AB Yachts as it launched its new 80 Sportfly model. Improve-it = Palm Beach PB70

In January 2023 Palm Beach commissioned a first 70 model with extended bridge.  Unlike previous 70 with flybridge this new version of Palm Beach flagship model features an extended fiberglass bridge deck, adding space to the flybridge, and covering the aft deck with a rigid protection.  This area on previous PB70 was usually extended with an awning, in order to cover the aft deck from the sun.  The 70 is the current flagship from Palm Beach, and is offered in Sedan and or Flybridge versions.  Other options in the Palm Beach 70 are that for an upper or lower galley, and two or three double guest cabins layouts, plus a crew cabin at midships.  The Palm Beach 70 is powered by twin Volvo 1000hp with IPS pod drives or line shaft propulsion.  Palm Beach are renowned for being super efficient thanks to a unique hull shape design, and light weight construction, and the 70 is a confirmation of this consuming just under two hundred litres an hour at 25 knots, which equals to eight litres per nautical miles at that speed, with Volvo 1000hp and IPS pod propulsion combination. That surely makes it one of the most economic 21 meter yacht on the market today.

Project: Ferretti 1000 Skydeck

The determination of Ferretti to keep raising the standards of comfort and liveability has produced a spectacular new version of the brand’s 1000 model flagship. The Skydeck edition of Ferretti Yachts 1000, is a success story for the Forlì-based shipyard with an upper deck redesigned to create an enclosed, sheltered space that can be enjoyed year-round and conveys the breath-taking feeling of being able to touch the sky.  The first unit of the new model is planned for launch in June 2023, while the yacht’s official debut will be at the Fort Lauderdale 2023 boat show. The Ferretti 1000 Skydeck is the usual collaboration between the Strategic Product Committee led by Piero Ferrari, the Ferretti Group Engineering Department, architect Filippo Salvetti for exterior styling and Ideaeitalia interior design, Ferretti Yachts 1000 Skydeck showcases the brand’s signature values of comfort, Italianness, timeless design and craftsmanship. The Skydeck stands out from the 2020 launcehd 1000 with the new feature for a fully glazed upper deck connected to the aft terrace by a full-height sliding glass door. The result is a second lounge for the owner and guests to enjoy in any weather and whatever the time of year or day. Perfectly coordinated with the interiors, the décor features the same types of wood in a play of contrasts between warm hues and paler, more delicate shades. The Skydeck can be fitted with air conditioning and the shutter slats in the hard top can be opened for natural ventilation. A stairway from the bridge provides indoor access to the deck, which can also be reached from outdoors using the stairway connecting it to the cockpit, while a side door leads to the bow area. The outdoor terrace is another inviting space designed for conviviality with a fiberglass bar unit and stools, while the stern area can be fitted out with free standing furniture chosen to reflect the Owner’s tastes.  Following in the footsteps of Ferretti 1000, the new Skydeck version is versatile and suited to all markets, with interior design solutions that adapt to meet different needs. The yacht’s sporty exterior styling is counterpointed by comfort and wellbeing, the signature features of both the outdoor spaces and the interiors, where the suavely understated design, featuring clean lines and sophisticated materials, conveys a sense of refined luxury and is the ideal interpretation of the values expressed by the “Just Like Home” claim.

Mystery Rendering

These days most project renderings are so realistic that sometimes it is difficult to make the difference from real photos.  The opposite is also true that digital photography has so much tools, that an over polished real photo can look like a rendering of sorts, making it difficult to distinguish the one from the other.

In all this though some boat builders are returning back to the past where a couple lines and little details tell small tiny bits of the new model coming up.  A mystery rendering which leaves you it to ones imagination what the new model will be all about.   This system was used a lot in the nineties.  But we are seeing it return again from some brands.

Pershing for example used it a lot when it started teasing its TO project in 2020, which was then later announced as the GTX116 in 2022, launched in the earlier part of this 2023 year.  Rizzardi is another brand which has always used mystery rendering for its upcoming models, showing five distinct lines of the model building curious anticipation to the interested buyer.

Building curious anticipation is important in new product nearly as designing the boat or yacht.
