Cantieri Navale Vittoria Receives Second Buyout Proposal
Italian shipyard Cantiere Navale Vittoria has received a second proposal for the purchasing of its facilities. According to CEO Dr. Stefano Lupi, this comes only two weeks after the initial proposal was received. "It was predictable and desirable that new players would present themselves, and this is what is happening," Lupi said. "I am sure that following the opening of the competitive procedure which we hope will start as early as August, there will be other investors available to formalise their interest in the acquisition." According to president Paolo Duò, the second proposition is an improvement on the first in terms of payment terms and amount asked. "I consider it a truly very interesting option for Cantiere Navale Vittoria. In fact, it stands out in terms of vision, institutional relations, competence and economic-financial reliability," he explained. "There is an important relaunch project behind it, and this is in the full interest of our staff, customers, suppliers, credit institutions and all local related industries." The initial proposal would see the yard receive additional financial support from the architectural firm Studio Mangano of Reggio Emilia in Italy as well as legal support from law firm Francesca Martinolli. After joining with Fusetti, the group formed a plan to rescue Cantiere Navale Vittoria from imminent bankruptcy proceedings, comprising a binding offer and deposit, which it then presented to the appropriate governing bodies. "On my part and that of the team, there is total dedication in rebuilding the bright future that an Italian excellence like CNV deserves," Fusetti said of the proposal. "We will bring resources and new initiatives in the naval field, with the aim of safeguarding the greatest possible number of jobs and ensuring continuity and development over time."
Ferretti Group New Hospitality for Metal Super Yacht Division
The new executive office building of Ferretti Group’s metal superyachts division is part of a project to upgrade the Ancona shipyard, a benchmark in the luxury yacht industry and the Group’s multi brand production hub. This is where CRN metal super and megayachts from 60 to 90 meters are designed and built, along with the entire Custom Line made-to-measure composite range from 30 to 43 meters and the full-aluminum branded flagship superyachts: Riva Superyacht Division from 50 meters upwards, Custom Line 50 meters and Pershing 140. This strategic production site represents the state-of-the-art in terms of know-how and yacht design, with the highest standards of research, innovation, expertise and craftsmanship: values that have always been imprinted in CRN’s DNA. The project to redevelop Ferretti Group’s entire Ancona Superyacht Yard was launched in 2016, focusing initially on the production sheds and then taking in the administration buildings and hospitality area. The first five years saw the construction of seven huge new industrial sheds with cutting-edge technological, comfort and energy systems (all the sheds have heating, cooling, air extraction, solar power and special production systems). A key milestone in the shipyard's strategic expansion project was the opening in December 2023 of the new administration building for Ferretti Group's metal superyachts division. The new multi-level building, covering around 4,200 square meters and accommodating over 150 employees, brings together the company’s identity, history and know-how in an innovative and highly recognizable industrial architecture project that combines aesthetics, functionality and sustainability in a workplace designed for wellbeing. The construction and decoration of these new spaces exude elegance, sophistication and expertise, giving owners and other guests an immersive experience that starts with the first exploratory meetings and continues throughout the entire journey of creating a pleasure vessel. Two guiding principles inspired the design, one is the idea that the shipyard is like a CRN megayacht, with elements that echo Italian aesthetics and the functionality, comfort, noble materials and exquisitely bespoke qualities of every aspect of a pleasure vessel, and the other is the desire to promote the local area as the leitmotif of a project designed to consolidate deep ties with the city of Ancona. This made it possible for an avant-garde architecture project to be effectively integrated in its surroundings, at the very heart of the yacht building district in the regional capital of Marche and a gateway to the tourist marina and commercial port. The façade system is a key element in the building’s relationship with the outdoor spaces and its recognizability in the eyes of people arriving in the capital of the Marche region. In-depth studies into the location and its colors, as well as its relations with the surrounding area, inspired an architectural design characterized by abstract geometries in steel, by the transparency of the extensive glazing and by the marine color tones of the pillars. The project’s materials and colors reproduce and amplify the surrounding ecosystem so that the offices become what can best be described as a “vertical landscape”.
Ferretti Group and Bologna University Present First Degree Course
With a Memorandum of Understanding signed by Ferretti, Emilia Romagna Regional Administration, Bologna University, Cassa dei Risparmi Foundation and Forlì Municipality, which establishes a virtuous network of public and private partners, the new Master’s Degree Course in Marine Engineering, based in Forlì, gets under way in academic 2024-25. The course is keenly awaited because the Emilia-Romagna, Marche, Abruzzo and Puglia areas are reporting significant industrial and employment growth in the yacht building industry. Hence the constant need for professionals with high level technical and specialist expertise. Ferretti Group, which has five production sites on the Adriatic coast, is one of the main backers of this teaching and research initiative, which represents an act of commitment and of giving back to the community by promoting the boatbuilding know-how that is one of the strengths of this geographical area. To achieve these goals, Ferretti Group has partnered with the scientific and educational excellence of the University of Bologna, which is as recognised internationally as it is rooted in the local areas it serves. The degree course is the first step in the creation of a centre of excellence in Forlì, one with the standing to attract researchers from Italy and internationally and to provide support for the creation and incubation of yachting industry startups driven by highly innovative technologies, increasing the attractiveness of these areas and fostering the development of the Blue Economy. The work of the Industrial Engineering Department, as well as involving teaching provided by internationally recognised experts, will focus on increasingly advanced research, including hydrodynamics and methods to reduce hydrodynamic and aerodynamic drag (performed at the international CICLoPE facility in Predappio). “This new Degree Course will generate energy and produce qualified resources who we enthusiastically welcome. Located here in Emlia-Romagna and on the Adriatic coast are some major shipyards that make a great contribution to the Italian yacht industry’s world leadership in pleasure vessels up to 60 metres,” said Ferretti Group CEO Alberto Galassi. “Transferring knowledge and sharing experience through a university-level project has the dual function of creating jobs and providing our industry with well-educated professionals who can rise to future challenges in the yacht industry.” University Rector Prof. Giovanni Molari said: “The course will train post-graduates to work in the design and production of pleasure vessels and the relative components, in all stages of product development. The new course will be organised at the Forlì site, ensuring access to numerous laboratories and to the potential offered by aerospace and mechanical training opportunities, and our hope is that it will continue to exploit significant synergy in various areas of marine interest such as fluid dynamics (the Forlì Campus’ CICLoPE is a very important international research facility), propulsion and composite materials. With this innovative educational project, the University confirms its focus on training that increasingly takes account of the needs of the local area and industry.”

Holterman Launches Holterman Refit
Holterman Shipyard, the Dutch builder of tailormade steel and aluminum yachts and superyachts, is celebrating its 60th anniversary with the official opening of a new department: Holterman Refit. It signals another milestone in the development of the yard which, since its founding in 1964, has built hundreds of highly prized yachts and whose Xtreme series – which began with the multi-award-winning X-105 Lady Fleur – continues to demonstrate the team’s capability to build exciting, avant-garde, tailormade superyachts to the very highest standards. It is not only this experience that will drive the new Refit division, however – Holterman has already undertaken numerous refit and maintenance projects in the past and already boasts a dedicated team who bring experience and backgrounds in both sail and power yachts. This will allow the new Refit division to take on complex and demanding projects up to around 50 metres in length, applying the shipyard’s trademark straightforward approach to ensure a top-quality, maximum-efficiency outcome no matter the demands of the refit or the type and style of yacht. Indeed, the Holterman Refit team is already making its mark, in May 2024 welcoming iconic J-Class yacht Hanuman for an extensive refit project that will touch all areas of the yacht, from moving deck hardware to replacing interior elements, installing new air conditioning and fridge-freezer systems, upgrading the hydraulic system and painting the underwater body and topsides. It’s a demonstration not only of the breadth of capability the Refit team displays but also of the faith Hanuman’s owner and crew had in choosing Holterman Refit to undertake their demanding project, which includes an equally demanding timeline.

As customers step out of their vehicle in the dedicated personalized VIP parking space they are greeted by the grand ambience in the foyer that was designed to give the look and feel of the brand DNA with deep blacks and a sophisticated minimalist look. Guests are then greeted with a personalized message on the large TV display screen as they are welcomed by the Maritimo staff who then usher them up to the new Maritimo reception space. Taking the stairs to the first level, you arrive at the most convivial of reception areas, where a personalized digital screen is displaying your boat of interest. A full bar will look after your preferred refreshments is also available, along with Pommery Champagne to make it most special of occasions as you start your Maritimo journey. There is a grand boardroom and a bespoke interior design room where new owners are taken through every color and finish available on their Maritimo to personalize their vessel just the way they like it. With all of that done, owners and guests can return down to the carpark, where they are shown to one of two Maritimo VIP buggies that will whisk them away to begin their tour through design, R&D, lamination, steel and timber fabrication, and then fit-out and finishing. More than four years ago now, the extensive new buildings within the complex have been upgraded and improved. Just recently, the design studio inside received a significant makeover to ensure it was on par with the main customer experience center where the tour starts and ends. This space gives guests an insight into where the vessels originally come to life and sometime guests will get a glimpse of the future of Maritimo. Expanding on this, Maritimo’s Marketing Manager, Simon Stewart, commented, “There has always been a customer centre at Maritimo, but now it is more grand experience for clients where every part of the visit feels more resolved and a true reflection on what we stand for as a brand. To that end, we now greet them literally from the moment they step out of their car, and then chaperone them through the whole journey to provide that unique Maritimo experience.” “The factory itself has also undergone a makeover, with fresh white paint and black accents to reflect the boats themselves, it is all very Maritimo now. Customers can see boats on the water, and/or visit one being built in the factory. It is very personalised, and we tailor the experience to suit each client.” “Our factory tour has always been spoken about very highly, as it does provide a wonderful connection with the brand, reinforcing what you would expect from a luxury manufacturer. This is even more so the case now with the additional works we have undertaken, along with the packages they receive at certain milestones along their journey.” “Customers have been blown away with the changes that have been made in the last 12 months which is the result we were aiming for. This obviously has an immediate effect on the perception of Maritimo the brand, and reconfirms everyone’s desire to be part of such a distinct, luxury, dream fulfilling pathway”, said Stewart. “It is really important to us to have the customer know that they are the priority at all times. Wants, needs, and desires take on a different form when you get the luxury motor yacht level, where quality and service literally have to exude from every touch point in what can often be a multi-year process.” “As we have more and more overseas customers it will be fantastic to welcome them to the factory for a tour and even a hangover experience in Australia. For them to see and experience first-hand the dedication our entire team put into creating their craft is bound to be utterly captivating.” “The new, complete factory tour is available to anyone considering a new Maritimo. We encourage them to book through their consultant, and we do look forward to welcoming them to the Gold Coast.” “There is even more personalisation to come, which buyers will see when they return to witness the creation of their new Maritimo. From factory to boat show, Maritimo Migration to next new craft, we are sure our customers will enjoy their time in our family even more than before”, said Stewart in closing.

Riva Per Sempre A History of Achievements and Innovation
1842 saw the birth of the boatyard that soon became a legend, establishing itself as an emblem of yachting and a symbol of elegance and innovation. Over 180 years of tradition, style and cutting-edge expertise masterfully told in “Riva Per Sempre. A history of achievements and innovation”, a documentary written and directed by Francesca Molteni and Antonio Vettese and produced by Yacht Design, Boat Show Television and Muse Factory of Projects. The documentary premiered in Milan will be aired in prime time on Sky Art, on Tuesday July 16 at 9.15pm, and streamed on the NOW platform. “Riva Per Sempre” looks back over the highlights in the exciting history of Riva, the boatyard founded in 1842 on Lake Iseo by shipwright Pietro Riva and now an international icon of yachting and a symbol of Made in Italy excellence. The documentary explores the evolution of Riva, from the first fishing boats to the racing powerboats of the 1920s and ‘30s, and from the age of Italy’s la dolce vita to the industrial development promoted by Carlo Riva. It spans the period from the iconic Aquarama to the launch of the first Aquariva in the noughties and the return to superyachts with the Riva Superyachts Division, culminating in the brand’s grand 180th anniversary celebrations in 2022 and more recently the dual listing on the Hong Kong and Milan stock exchanges. “When passion takes shape it becomes a Riva: style, innovation and beauty,” said Ferretti Group CEO Alberto Galassi. “Great stories are an experience handed down from generation to generation, and this extraordinary documentary tells us in moving words and images how to conquer the world with the power of a dream.” The documentary set in the Sarnico and La Spezia shipyards, the Superyachts Division in Ancona, The Gritti Palace in Venice and the Riva Private Deck in Lezzeno on Lake Como is a celebration of Made in Italy excellence, of Carlo Riva’s grand entrepreneurial vision, and of all the people who have contributed to the brand’s prestige. With the help of archive footage and more recent images, Riva’s over 180 years of history are told in the words of Ferretti Group CEO Alberto Galassi and Piero Ferrari, Ferrari Vice Chair and head of the Ferretti Group Strategic Product Committee. Period footage of Carlo Riva and stories told by artist Mimmo Paladino, actor Pierfrancesco Favino and designers Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta of Officina Italiana Design are interwoven with interviews with the production managers of the La Spezia and Sarnico shipyards, and analysis by Elena Dellapiana, lecturer at Politecnico di Torino, and journalist Antonio Vettese.

Over 60 new apprenticeships are now being offered by Australia’s premium luxury motor yacht builder, Riviera. The Gold Coast based manufacturer is looking for over 60 talented, young craftsmen and women to join its already 950-strong team – seeking 40 school-based and 20 full-time apprentices. In addition, Riviera is seeking a further 30 general hands, production employees and qualified tradespeople to join its team. There are 10 individual trades available through the Riviera Academy of Excellence training program, covering Marine Craft Construction, Composites, Cabinetmaking, Diesel Fitting, Fabrication, Electrical, Timber Composites Machining, French Polishing and Upholstery. The final Apprentice Program Information Evening for 2024, to be held at Riviera’s world-class manufacturing facility on July 25, from 5.30pm, is now open for pre-registration. Riviera strongly encourages females to also consider a career in the luxury motor yacht industry. “We had a record intake of females in January this year, so we’re hoping to grow on that success again in 2025,” Riviera Apprentice & Training Manager Keira Badke says. “Historically, boat building has been seen as a male industry, but with the broad range of apprenticeships we now offer, that has very much changed. “With our growing number of females there’s such a great dynamic across all our departments, and everyone works together here to create our world-class motor yachts. “A career in boat building can even take you around the world, as Riviera exports around 60% of our annual production internationally and has a growing operations base in Florida in the United States. “At Riviera though, it’s not just about training the best boat builders, but helping to create the best people. “We love giving opportunities to young locals and keeping jobs on the Gold Coast. “Anyone who’s interested in boat building and our related trades is encouraged to pre-register for our final Information Evening for 2024.” At any given time, Riviera is training about 150 apprentices, from first to fourth year. Over the past three decades, around 400 tradespeople have earned their qualifications through the company’s award-winning training program. Many have continued to grown and developed with the business and now hold key roles within Riviera. In January, Riviera opened its state-of-the-art training centre, the Academy of Excellence, located within the company’s 16.8 hectare facility where apprentices learn life skills alongside their chosen trade. This 680sqm centre comprises two fully operational workshops, two learning hubs including a dedicated drafting room, offices and meeting rooms. “I’m exceptionally proud to be helping mentor our talented apprentices and giving them such a great opportunity - it’s immensely rewarding for me, personally, to see our apprentices develop into such accomplished mature adults, with world leading skills,” Riviera owner Rodney Longhurst says. “Our significant investment in our Academy reflects our investment in all our 950-strong team. “We want each person at Riviera to be the best they can be. “So many of our senior managers and tradespeople have completed their apprenticeships here, highlighting the rewarding and long-term career pathway that we offer.”

National Marine Manufacturers Association President and CEO Frank Hugelmeyer and Senior Vice President of Government Relations Robyn Boerstling visited Viking for a plant tour and discussion about issues impacting our industry. “The primary focus was how Viking and NMMA can build a proactive strategy to better position the industry against a myriad of regulatory threats, such as the North Atlantic Right Whale Speed Rule, marine engine emissions and access to public waters,” said John DePersenaire, Viking’s Director of Government Relations and Sustainability. “Teaming with the NMMA has been incredibly beneficial for Viking and the marine industry at large. By leveraging their resources, expertise and support, we are confident that we will be able to tackle challenges more effectively and efficiently.”
Viking on Fox News Again
Fox News has once again turned to Viking to alert America to the government overreach of NOAA’s proposed 10-knot Vessel Speed Rule along the Eastern Seaboard. Reporter Douglas Kennedy interviewed Viking’s Justin Healey aboard a Valhalla 41, demonstrating the technology available today to detect humans, marine mammals and objects in the water. Viking and the marine industry continue to hold the position that technology – rather than speed reductions – is the answer to protecting the North Atlantic Right Whale. Justin explained our case, saying: “As a third-generation boatbuilder, it’s frustrating to feel like you have to battle with the government when technologies are in place today – including radar, AIS (Automated Identification System) target technology and the FLIR advanced infrared technology that can show a whale well in advance to avoid any sort of collision.” Fox’s Kennedy interviewed Viking President and CEO Pat Healey in December 2022 at the Viking plant, several months after NOAA proposed the rule, which is still under government review. Viking has been an integral part of the marine industry’s effort to raise awareness and lobby against the rule, which would have a devastating impact on the boating and fishing community. Viking Triple Crown Champs Again
The Krake family’s Viking 72 Team Supreme has won the Gulf Coast Triple Crown for the second consecutive year. With captain Chase Lake behind the wheel for the four-tournament series, the team released 21 blues and a white. Going into the final leg, the Blue Marlin Grand Championship, Team Supreme was in 2nd place in the series among the 66-boat fleet. The team knew it was a numbers game. So when they released their magic seventh blue, they secured enough points to take the crown, “it was pandemonium, my crew was fired up,” said Chase. “We had seven blue marlin. I’m stuck at seven,” Chase said, referring to six trips that tallied seven blues. “We actually let a kill-fish go. If we don’t think it’s going to be first place, we release it.” This win puts Team Supreme in a special circle with only three boats winning multiple titles and only one other doing it back-to-back. Jon Gounsoulin’s Viking 70 Done Deal won the Triple Crown in 2012, 2013 and 2017. In addition to Chase, Team Supreme is comprised of mates Seth Brennan, James Arnold, Allen Krake and anglers Alex Krake, Lisa Krake, Hunter Smith and Lennie Stephens. But don’t think this crew is done yet. After logging 43 blue marlin this season, the team wants to see if they can release 100. Chase said the most anyone has caught in the Gulf of Mexico in a calendar year is 63. “It’s possible, it could happen,” he said. “We’re going to try our best and blow the record out of the water!” Galati Yacht Sales’ Carmine Galati had this to say, “Team Supreme’s back-to-back Triple Crown is beyond impressive. Their consistency among the very impressive competition makes a powerful statement. This accomplishment cannot be overstated. Proud and honored to work with Allen, Chase and their team. WOW!” Sitting pretty in 3rd Place is the Viking 70 Mis Ma’am. The team had a solid season with a 2nd Place finish at the Orange Beach Billfish Classic, but Cooper Yancy sealed the deal at the Blue Marlin Grand Championship. With captain Chase Johnson at the helm, Cooper hooked a 123-inch fish on the first night of the tournament. The next morning at the scale the fish weighed 650.4 pounds. Enough to take Heaviest Blue Marlin for the tournament and clinch the 3rd place spot in the series. The fish also claims two spots on the MongoOffshore Challenge board which will conclude on September 30.
Viking at MidAtlantic Cup
The MidAtlantic Cup a one-day winner-takes-all blue marlin tournament, saw Jim McCarthy’s Viking 58 Covert Mission walk away with the check. Mike Thompson angled the fish which was 113 inches with a 56-inch girth. The blue registered 486 pounds at the weigh station. Held on the Fourth of July, weigh stations are manned from Manasquan Inlet, New Jersey, to Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Viking at Blue Marlin Grand Championship
The only thing hotter than The Wharf’s iconic flaming blue marlin was the bite! The Viking 70 Miss Ma’am was the first blue weighed, and the 650.4-pound fish held on to win what is dubbed the Greatest Show in Sportfishing. Chase Johnson was behind the wheel as Cooper Yancy reeled in the 123-inch fish. Briar Patch, a Viking 68, weighed the 3rd Place Blue Marlin with Mitchell Reilly’s 577.6-pound fish. Captain Chase Lake led Team Supreme (more on them next week!) to 2nd Place Release Team on the Krake family’s Viking 72. Alex Krake released six blues while Allen Krake added another to the tally. The Tuna Division saw a new Blue Marlin Grand Championship record caught by Jaselyn Berthelot on the Viking 58 Rising Sons. Her 197.8-pound yellowfin broke the record which was set earlier in the evening by Mike Roberto on the Viking 61 Crawgator by just 0.2 pounds. Mike’s fish took 2nd Place, while Pickett Reese on the Viking 80 Wynsong weighed the 3rd Place Tuna at 177.6 pounds. David Finklestein, fishing on the Viking 80 CE, hooked the 2nd Place Wahoo, a 38.8-pounder. Teddy Tinney was the Top Junior Angler with five blue marlin released on the Viking 72 Metal Masher. Sixty-six teams caught a Gulf of Mexico tournament record of 106 blue marlin – plus 14 whites and 12 sails for 132 billfish. This was the final leg of the Gulf Coast Triple Crown Championship four-tournament series. Look for a full recap of the series in next week’s Viking View.
Viking at Gulf Cup Blue Marlin Shootout
Michael Butler’s Viking 61 Crawgator won The Gulf Cup Blue Marlin Shootout. With captain Eric Chandler behind the wheel, the team boated a 535-pound blue on July 4th to claim the one-day winner-take-all prize. The fish was hooked after it ate a live bait and put up a 2.5-hour fight. It was 126 inches long (lower jaw to fork length) and had a 60-inch girth. Cypress Cove Marina in Louisiana recorded the official weight. “There were quite a few nice fish hooked,” said Tournament Director Robert “Fly” Navarro. “It was a hot Independence Day!”
Viking at HWY Lowcountry Cup Billfishing Tournament
Fished over the 4th of July weekend, the 2nd annual HMY Lowcountry Cup Billfishing Tournament, based out of Charleston, South Carolina, saw a handful of Vikings in the Winner’s Circle. The Heaviest Wahoo was weighed by Adam Parrish, who also weighed the Heaviest Tuna, 21.7 pounds, and 17.9 pounds, respectively. He was fishing on Ed Parrish’s Viking 50 At Last. The Top Lady Angler was Carson Smith who fished on Mark Smith’s Viking 50 Lady-S. Fifteen-year-old Hunter Alex, fishing on his dad’s Viking 46 Billfish Can Do, was the Top Junior Angler with a blue marlin and pair of sails. Tournament founder and HMY Sales Professional Tim Gredick said, “We had incredible fishing with 25 blues, a white and 113 sailfish released by 17 boats over three days.” This is the fourth of five legs of the South Carolina Governor’s Cup Billfishing Series.
Wajer Summer Day Amsterdam
Recently Wajer celebrated 'Wajer Summer Day’ in Amsterdam, an event especially for owners who have their Wajer in the Netherlands. After a quick gathering at the Wajer hub in Amsterdam, the fleet of 14 Wajers took off to Volendam, a historic fishing village. Accompanied by a cheerful brass band, the group enjoyed some fried fish before heading back to the capital city. Back in Amsterdam, the Wajers took over the canals and ended the day at a restaurant alongside the Amstel River, where they enjoyed a drink and a snack during the sunset. A great way to kick off summer!
