New Model: Prestige 620 S

When speaking about the Prestige 620 S it is hard to categorize this model from a Sport or Flybridge Motor Yacht.  This new sport flybridge category started out with a jockey stand on the top of the hard top of larger around eighty sport yachts, but this is recently being more evolutionized to include more spacious bridges.  The Prestige 620 S is a further evolution of the 60 model with a redefined stern area which has its bigger change in the extended bathing platform.  For the rest the 620 S is the same as the 60 version with three large cabins, a clever main deck with its highlight being the astern galley and the opening sunroof which opens a third of the roof. Good fuel consumption comes also with the 620 S thanks to IPS pods and twin Volvo 700hp eninges which give a top speed of 30 knots.

Improve-it = Casa 54 HT

Paying attention to market demands and modifying a current model to suit more to the client needs has always been a good way for a boat builder to move forward.  This is what Casa from the South part of Rome, in Italy did with its current 54 HT flagship model by presenting the new cockpit layout.  This alternative versions replaces the sun pad with an L-shaped settee on the aft deck of the 54 HT, making the area a lounging place.  The Casa 54 HT is a three cabin hard top sport yacht and also offer two version choice for its internal layout plan with a galley up or below choice.  With the galley below choice the third cabin moves more forward becoming a bunk berth layout but still offering a third head, this being smaller then to that of the standard plan.  Power for the Casa 54 is Man 900 or 1100hp engines with line shaft propulsion as standard, or optional surface drives being available.

Project: Heesen 55m YN 17255

Heesen Yachts is proud to announce the sale of the first 55m steel fast displacement motor yacht.  Hull number: YN 17255 has been sold thanks to a beneficial collaboration.  The Heesen 55m steel fast displacement class was first introduced at “The future is now” Press conference held at the Monaco Yacht Club during the 2012 Monaco Yacht Show, where this Dutch shipyard presented several new models: as well as the 55m steel fast displacement, the 42m fast displacement equipped Hull Vane - sold even before it was introduced on the market, and the 45m fly bridge.  Working with the most radical thinkers, these three new yachts were developed to overcome seemingly opposing attributes: to go faster but use less fuel, to increase range and speed, optimize performance but reduce environmental impact, to enable uncompromised interior design without compromising performance.
YN 17255, whose fast displacement hull form was developed by Van Oossanen Naval Architects, will reach the remarkable maximum speed of 16knots with a range of 4.500Nm at a cruising speed of 13 knots. Frank Laupman from Omega Architects created the elegant lines of this new Heesen 55 metre.  YN 17255 also boasts extensive outdoor spaces with its 110 square metre sun deck and a 70 square metre Owner’s private terrace located forward. Tenders and toys are stored in the garage located at the front of the vessel and launched from the two gull-wings doors on each side; hence the lazarette can be dedicated to a wide beach club and gym with a generous swim platform that allows the Owner and guests to swim and relax right at the sea’s edge. Twelve guests are accommodated in six cabins: the master suite traditionally located on the main deck forward features a side recessed balcony; a full beam VIP on the lower deck alongside two twins and two doubles. YN 17255 will be delivered to her Owner in Summer 2015.

Project: Astondoa 63 Top Deck

Some projects come which try to re-invent the wheel of how a boat should look, many go while some are perceived well by the market and create a new segment.  The Astondoa 63 Top Deck designed by Luiz de Basto is a very innovative concept for its layout, looks, and what it brings on the table.  From a certain point of view the 63 Top Deck can look as it is one of those crusing boats which take tourists around in popular coast line areas, investigate close and you notice this is not the case.  Surely looking at the renderings it brings a lot of fresh design in a nineteen meter sport yacht.  Obviously the most interesting part is the main deck and its full use of space from fore to aft.  This creates an unusual spacious area for entairtainment, with bar areas, lounges, sunpad, and a jacuzzi spa bath.  Below the standard layout offers two cabins sleeping five, plus a saloon galley lounge area to fore.  Power is twin Volvo 700hp with IPS pod propulsion with estimated top speeds of 36 knots and a cruise of 25.

New Model: Magazzu MX-11 Coupe

Magazzu is making a huge statement in the large rib cruisers sector presenting interesting models.  Most important some of the large models still have the feel and usability that a rib should offer while still presenting over night accommodation for two below.  This is certainly the case for the MX-11 Coupe presented by Magazzu in 2012.  The full exterior of the MX-11 Coupe are indeed complimented by a cabin which sleeps two in a Vee shaped berth, and featuring a shower head to starboard side.  A galley is located outside behind the centre console on the large main deck.  Power choices start at 500 and go up to 900hp with max speeds estimated of 60 knots possible with the large options.

Project: Viking 75 Motor Yacht

What goes around comes around is a popular saying and one that emerges again at Viking, as the US builder announces plans to build a new 75 Motor Yacht.  Viking exited the motor yacht market with the last 60 Cockpit Sport Yacht delivered in 2001. This model was a strong performer and during its reign was recognized by Boating magazine as Boat of the Year in 1995. Much has changed in the motor yacht arena over the past decade and the development of the new 75 Motor Yacht, a strategic collaboration between the Viking design team and the firm of Michael Peters of Sarasota, Florida, reflects a number of innovations and refinements in this portion of the market. The exterior profile is sleek, curvy and embodies a number of style cues from the Viking convertibles including the teardrop salon windows, and distinctive molded feature lines in the hull and superstructure. The fiberglass hardtop and raked side supports replicates the look of the Sky Bridge, a very popular appointment found aboard enclosed bridge convertibles. An integrated molded swim platform is planked with teak for secure footing for boarding, as well as water sports activities. Shapely port lights and master stateroom hull side windows contribute style and function, and the full wrap-around anodized aluminum bow rail and wide side decks make for convenient passage when moving forward to handle dock lines or anchoring. The 75 Motor Yacht starts with a freshly designed hull to take full advantage of the available power, Viking also opted for a convertible style running surface renowned for ease of handling and sea-keeping ability. The first boat, which will deliver in early fall of 2014 will have a pair 1925hp Caterpillars, with speed estimated going for a 30 knots cruise and a mid thirty top end. The Viking 75 Motor Yacht tri-level layout demonstrates an intelligent use of space with accents on family comfort and usability. Twin molded fiberglass staircases lead from the teak planked swim platform to the aft deck with its U-shape lounge and table. A glass door slides open to the salon this featuring a custom made sofa and cocktail table on the port side faces teak cabinetry with a built-in entertainment center and flat screen television, which rises on an electric lift. Moving forward, the center area combines a formal dining area with seating for eight, and a galley.  A lower helm station is complemented with a pair of leather seats and additional seating is available at the port settee. Lounge seating also is provided forward on the main exterior deck, along with a large sun pad making this a most versatile area at the dock or under way.  Below, accommodations include five nicely proportioned staterooms, each with its own head and shower, including a full beam master suite and crew quarters with private access from the stern.  Topside, the flying bridge deck is ideal for entertaining and relaxing with multiple lounges, a wet bar and grilling area and a center line helm. The Viking 75 Motor Yacht will have its inaugural appearance for the fall of 2014.

The Used Problem

A few years ago, before 2009 recession hit us a boat coming with a good brand name and maintenance used to bring a solid return, and I actually know a lot of cases where owners lost little to nothing when they sold used.  Sometimes people also made a surplus on the purchase. The important part was maintain it well, make it look good, and things used to work out on there own.
In recent years though change hit the world economies and with the recession, the first object people seems they want to get rid off is a boat.  This is all natural since the up keeping expenses of a boat are usually not cheap and these can double or triple to the least if you keep it in a more exotic place i.e. highly demanded luxury marina.
But does this cycle create a circle of people not buying boats anymore cause of the lose they suffered?  Unlike cars which have the same cycle boats cost a considerable amount of money to buy and keep.
So here lies the used problem, that up until the used market stabilizes and these will start to have a more decent return the new build market will not see the growth it had before 2009.  At the moment this looks a bit far away, making buyers and bargain hunters with opportunities which I have never seen before and actually till recently did not exist.
If you are a buyer I am sure this brings you with endless opportunities plus huge savings.

Riva 170 Year of Emotions
Using the word ‘legend’ to talk about Riva is far too easy; it is much more difficult to describe the factors that perpetuate this legend. 170 words are printed in the very first pages of the book: each of them can be considered as a brick making up a large, constantly expanding castle. Try to read them in a sequence and you will see how easily you will visually and emotionally associate them with Riva. This is how Ferretti Group’s CEO Ferruccio Rossi introduces the book that enshrines the history of Riva, written by those who have experienced the brand’s 170-year history first-hand. The book includes 170 statements and unique pictures that can be browsed through or read in a sequence to take a step into the very heart of a brand which represents one of the most significant chapters in the history of Made-in-Italy production. Excerpts of letters, dedications, acknowledgements, and feelings put on paper, all sharing one common denominator: ‘Legend’; the pleasure of being onboard a Riva yacht, an icon of quality and design, pure craftsmanship and engineering perfection. A tribute to those who have put their heart, soul and expertise to the service of boatyards for more than a century. As you turn every page you will come in contact with the core values of a brand, a world leader in the yachting industry since time immemorial, still capable of constantly striving towards the future: tradition, family, exclusiveness, quality, design, care for details, lifestyle.  Owners, dealers, designers, managers, engineers, photographers, collectors, workers, sports champions, and celebrities have joined their voices to testify how delightful it is for everyone of them to associate Riva with the ‘Legend’. The pictures, taken over a 60-year period, are also a tribute to Cantieri Riva and to its historical and current models. These pictures allow us to take a journey through past and present times from very unusual perspectives: historical and modern pictures, snapshots of details and events, black & white ad colours spots create a bridge between the past and the present.

Sanlorenzo Environmental Award Winner
Since 1958, Sanlorenzo shipyard is a leader in the production of strictly tailor-made motor yachts. The Yard's entry for the 2012 Environmental Award Edition is their most ecological model in water and environmental protection: the Sanlorenzo SL94. With her unmistakable Sanlorenzo lines, the SL94 exemplifies elegance, balanced volumes and the proper ratio between covered and open spaces. Sanlorenzo shipyard combined new styling elements in perfect harmony with a series of innovations that continue to leave the yard's family feel of yacht planning unaltered. The Sanlorenzo SL94 was designed taking full advantage of the increasing environmental awareness that characterizes today's yachting industry, with the Sanlorenzo Technical Department responsible for the development of the SL94's eco-friendly systems. In awarding the Trophy, the UIM made special note of the electronic probes used to monitor and prevent oil spillage and the electric actuators used to avoid hydraulic oil leakage from the steering systems. On board sewage treatment is carried out by an IMO approved plant, while fuel usage and tank levels for the main engines and the gensets are continually monitored from the wheelhouse. Other important key points are the climatization plant optimization and the low energy lighting system. It is also important to underline that the Sanlorenzo SL94 is produced with fiberglass structures characterized by a low-emissions manufacturing process: the deckhouse and deck are made using vacuum-infusion resin, and the entire hull is built with the vacuum-infusion process using vacuum bags for PVC bonding.

The public introduction of Next Wave included a series of new technologies and design breakthroughs that mark the first examples of Next Wave thinking in action. These include Quiet Ride™, first seen on the SLX Series, which reduces engine noise and vibration by nearly half; and SkyFlow Design™, first displayed on the award-winning 510 Sundancer, which eliminates the "cave" effect of most cruisers by blurring the line between indoor and outdoor spaces.  Additional Next Wave technologies include TabletTunes™, which is a standard feature aboard the 610 Sundancer and is available on every Sea Ray Yacht; Concealed Outboard Propulsion, modeled on Boating Magazine's Boat of the Year, the 370 Venture; Dynamic Running Surface, first available on the 230 SLX; and TrueJet, the product of a groundbreaking partnership between Sea Ray and Weber Motors, featured now on the 21 Jet.

Project: Riviera 565 SUV

Riviera’s design team are putting the finishing touches on the second model in the new SUV range, the sleek, stylish and spacious 565 SUV, which is due for release in May at the 2013 Riviera Festival of Boating, which is held to coincide with the Sanctuary Cove Boat Show. The 445 SUV was met with immediate popularity following its launch in August last year, and already eight having been sold internationally and around Australia.  Following this success Riviera was fast to present a larger 565 SUV project which bases its hull on that of the 53 Enclosed Flybridge. The new SUV range combines the performance blue water cruising abilities of the classic Flybridge with the fish raising abilities of the Offshore Express, and the single-level leisurely entertaining features of the popular Sport Yacht series, creating a vessel with a true bridge between all of these styles.  Featuring three cabins and two bathrooms, the new 565 SUV has a flexible accommodation plan with sleeping capacity from six to eight adults. The stately full-beam master suite features a king size island bed, large hull windows and optional opening port holes for cross ventilation, a walk-in robe, and lounge and television DVD player as standard.  The forward cabin has an optional layout with the choice of either a queen size island bed or a triple bunk bed arrangement.  The new 565 SUV has many clever design aesthetic features such as the sleek, low profile hardtop with two large manually sliding glass sunroof hatches, which bring an abundance of natural light and fresh air into the saloon. The large helm station to port has plenty of room for electronics including three display screens, controls and the Volvo joystick. There are four high-quality helm chairs, two of which swivel 180 degrees to face the saloon allowing occupants to join in the conversation in the saloon area. The saloon features an L-shaped lounge and dining area to port with storage below, on the starboard side is a three seat starboard side lounge. The aft galley, which features the most modern appliances with drawer refrigeration, convection microwave oven, optional drawer dishwasher, four plate cook top with extraction hood, top loading garbage bin, and soft close drawer runners for storage plus overhead storage lockers, and Corian bench tops throughout with infills over the sink allowing for extra bench space. A large awning window and glass sliding door opens the galley into the cockpit area, creating one large entertainment space.  A key design feature that sets this model apart is the expansive and uncluttered cockpit space with plenty of storage including, an insulated fish bin to starboard, plus clever storage inside the engine room hatch. The mezzanine seating to port also features a top loading refrigerated cool box under the seating. There is the option to have a barbecue centre in the transom with barbecue, sink, rubbish bin and storage or optional live bait tank or standard bin, as well as an optional hydraulic swim platform for a smaller tender.  Mr Ford said another clever design feature on this vessel was the full glass panel on the starboard side of the sliding door, which provides good visibility to both the transom corners from the helm.  The new 565 SUV’s décor gives a modern and contemporary feel. Hull two will show a new style interior design, which features two-pack painted finishes, satin American oak timber wall fabrics and timber flooring, which give a true Euro feel. Hull one however will feature a custom décor utilising Riviera’s traditional Cherry interior requested by the owner. The Riviera 565 SUV will be powered by twin Volvo 700hp with IPS pod drives propulsion delivering a cruise up to 25 knots and achieve top speeds of around 30 knots.

New Model: Nord West 430 Flybridge

Nord West will launch a brand new 430 Flybridge motor cruiser at the boat show in Gothenburg taking place from the 2 till the 10th of February. The yard is well known for its production of high quality boats and will now launch a new, slightly larger powerboat to the multi prized 420 with the same high standard, smart design and luxurious comfort that can be expected from the Orust production builder. The 430 will feature the latest in technology installed: twin Volvo Penta IPS engines with joystick control for easy manoeuvring and through a touch of a button or the intuitive DPS system holding the boats position through a series of GPS signals. Nominated as the ‘Motor Boat of the Year’ in both 2007 and 2008 the Nord West 420 has been the inspiration for the now bigger sister together with the 430 SportsTop, which is the yards latest newest model with its successful sports design.  For the first time the yard will now present the new Nord West 430 Flybridge in the same generous hull as the SportsTop and with the remarkable seagoing capabilities and low fuel consumption of the famed 420.  To put it short the 430 hull is a tweeking and slight improvement of the 420 praised underwater shape.  The yard would also like to highlight improvements they have been working with such as reduced sound levels and vibrations. Much of the equipment onboard which normally is extra options on most other manufacturers are in fact standard on all Nord West models. This makes the Nord West 430 Fly on of the most comfortable boats on the market today. The 430 Fly represents the first new model that has been developed since the acquisition of Najad and the interior design will demonstrate how the merging of two strong brands lift each other to new levels of perfection in both design and technique. Smart solutions and spacious storage facilities and a fantastic craftsmanship is the hallmark of this yard. The owner of the yard, Mr. Benny Martinsson, who stands behind the design together with the yards own and very capable development team, have put emphasis on the social space in the cockpit, saloon and on the flybridge. New Model: Riviera 63 Enclosed Flybridge

Riviera launches the new 63 Enclosed Flybridge with a raft of engineering and design enhancements based on its predecessor the 61 and the updates on the recent 75 flagship. Riviera  describes the new 63 as a luxurious and highly capable long range offshore vessel, with many popular design cues taken from the fleet’s prestigious flagship, the 75. The new 63 features a galley positioned central to the party, a cockpit that is an extension of the live-aboard space inside, a master stateroom that is bathed in light and fresh air, an enclosed flybridge that serves as a sky lounge, and refinements to the hull that further enhance performance and sea keeping ability. The new galley is positioned aft, adjacent to the saloon bulkhead, and separated from the large sociable cockpit space by a hinged awning window and full tinted glass door. The result is an extension of light and space from outside in, with guests easily able to converse with whoever is in the galley. Opposite the galley to starboard there is a bar area with ice maker and fridge set under ergonomically raked flybridge stairs, with solid teak treads nested on flawless tig-welded stainless steel supports. A special feature of the saloon bar is an electric lift glassware cabinet which retracts into the varnished cabinetry while under way, yet rises to the occasion at the touch of a button. Forward of the bar there is a spacious U-shape lounge and dinette with seating for twelve well positioned to take advantage of the large TV mounted on the forward dash.  The very large main saloon is bright and airy, with 360 degree tinted windows and offering views from every seating angle and position. The new 63 has incorporated social seating into the cockpit, which is no longer the sole domain of the sports fisherman.  The cockpit now doubles as an alfresco dining experience, with optional opposing fore and aft facing mezzanine seating either side of a solid teak table.  The practicalities of a sport fisher with fully optioned fighting cockpit are enhanced with features like below deck self-draining fish bins, game chair mounting plate solidly glassed into the cockpit floor, and recessed toe kicks. An extensive options list covering rod holders, live bait tank wells and outriggers ensures the full versatility of the 63.  Overlooking the cockpit is the spacious enclosed flybridge, featuring forward helm and aft docking station.  The enclosed flybridge features a hinged awning window and glass door that bolt open to bring outdoors in and unify the space. Wrap around seating to port features folding arm rests with functional storage underneath and a drop down dinette table.  To starboard there is a wet bar with bottle and glass storage.  The aft docking station is located aft to the starboard side of the external flybridge door with excellent visibility of the cockpit and aft quarters of the boat behind. There is an option to upgrade to Palm Beach single side mount engine control levers, which are a favourite with sport fishermen. To port an aft-facing lounge accommodates two people.  Below deck's is a standard four cabin layout sleeping seven in the standard version, with the owners stateroom located to portside midships and featuring large big view windows.  The optional three cabin layout is available with extra space absorbed by the VIP guest cabin, to include a private lounge or a writing bureau. In engineering terms the 63 retains its original shaft drive configuration, and base power is twin 1015hp Caterpillar engines.
