Improve-it = Otam 80HT

Otam continue to evolve its 80HT and with this new unit confirmed sold and started construction in March has now arrived in its seventh hull, in twenty years and all fully custom units.  This new hull #007 as Otam likes to call is the most customized yet, although we should have gotten used to the Genoa based builder where each unit is more customized to the previous and an evolution of the species.  Calling it an Improvement is also wrong as each Otam even the smaller ones are all mostly bespoke creations and very-custom units with even the shell changing and evolving.  For example this Otam 80HT will be fully build in a Kevlar Carbon construction and will feature bigger windows, with this giving a lighter feel to the hard-top structure looking similar to that of the 58 more then the other previous six 80s.  Unchanged are the engines with the Otam 80HT powered by twin MTU 2600hp and Arneson surface drives good for a top speed up to 48 knots, as is the naval architecture by Umberto Tagliavini, with the basis coming from the Fabio Buzzi designed 80 Record from 2001 which eventually became the Otam 80HT hull number one when this unit was transformed to a pleasure super sport yacht.

New Model: Otam 58 GTS

Otam presents the new 58 GTS, an evolution of the 55 Millennium launched in 1999 and with this hull number 26 shows it is here to stay and evolve.  In reality this is the fourth evolution and version of the 55/58 hull with the 58 Open being the second, and a lightly changed 58 HT being the third. Designed by Giuseppe Bagnardi from Rome the new 58 GTS is a full custom design from the layout inside to the new open but protected hardtop exterior.  For the layout below the owner of Bad Boys, the name given to the first 58 GTS opted for two spacious staterooms a galley and no lower deck saloon. A crew cabin to starboard with a separate access from the technical room to port side is also located at midships. The first Otam 58 GTS is powered by the large option of twin MTU 1822hp with Arneson surface drives, good for about 55 knots wide open throttle and 48 knots cruise, or Portofino to Porto Cervo in just about four hours.  Two other smaller engine options including the first for Otam for an IPS pod propulsion choice are available.

Project: Otam 90 GTS

Otam present the project for a 90 GTS set to launch in 2024.  Designed by Giuseppe Bagnardi, the 90 GTS is another version of the 80 Record hull as designed by Fabio Buzzi, which has been the successful story of the 80/90 Otam series which keeps on re-writing the manual what a custom boat really is, even though the basic foundations are those of the 80 Record boat, which smashed the Round Italy Venice to Monte Carlo, Monte Carlo to London, and Round Britain records in 2001.  The 90 GTS, if we include the 85 GTS should be the eight hull based on the 80 Record, though rightly so since upwards from the waterline this a total different yacht Otam is calling the 90 hull number one.  The first 90 GTS will mostly serve as a day and chase boat to the owners larger vessels, but Otam is already proposing various variations on the theme above from a soft top version, full or half-height windows, and single or double hull windows for the master stateroom at midships. The first Otam 90 GTS is to be powered by twin MTU 2600hp engines with surface drives propulsion with an estimated over forty knots top speeds estimated.

Project: Otam 58 GTS

The Otam 55 and later renamed as 58 has always been a best-seller, but the 26th hull in build at the Genoese shipyard appropriately named ‘Bad Boys’ takes the iconic design a step further.  Restyled by Giuseppe Bagnardi of BG Design Firm in Rome, the new-look 58 GTS takes the sporty DNA we all expect in an Otam yacht and ratchets it up a notch!  The updated exterior styling offers a semi-open deckhouse with a sharply raked windscreen and wraparound glazing for the en-plein air feel of a true open combined with the protection from the sun and wind of a hardtop. It also provides a more aerodynamic profile and less turbulence for better performance and more onboard comfort at high speed.  Integrated into the hardtop are two air intakes; another two are positioned to port and starboard on the foredeck that funnel air directly into the aft engine compartment underneath the two large sun-pads either side of the central walkway. These can be raised hydraulically for easy access to the engines and other equipment.  The covered cockpit is equipped with a bar unit, corner sofa and a comfortable ding area.  The swim platform and exhaust grilles in the transom have also been redesigned with the latter now integrated and disguised in the nameplate.  Like all Otam yachts, the 58 GTS is built for speed and lives up to its ‘Gran Turismo Sport’ suffix: powered by twin MTU 1825hp engines coupled to ASD14 Arneson surface drives, it has a top speed of 55 plus knots and cruises comfortably at 48 knots.  What hasn’t changed is the high-performance hull form by Tagliavini Marine Design, built using a mix of Aramat and vinylester resin to guarantee total safety and high comfort even at high speed in rough seas.  As with all Otam products, customisation is key and the 58 GTS is being built to the specific brief of her owner, who has also requested a bespoke Böning console for the pilot station.  Below deck, the Otam 58 GTS features two ensuite double cabins, an open-space galley and third single cabin with bathroom for an extra guest or crew member.  The lamination of a second hull is already complete and can be delivered within eight months of sale. The first Otam 58 GTS ‘Bad Boys’ is due to make her debut at the 2022 Cannes Yachting Festival.

New Model: Otam 70 HT

Otam confirms once again its strong identity and its aim of building yachts characterized by extreme customizations and excellent performance and reliability, making craftmanship the distinctive feature of the Italian shipyard. Proof of this is the newly launched Otam 70HT that will make its World debut at 2021 Cannes Yachting Festival in beginning September.  With one-off design by BG Design Firm, as well as bespoke engineering and hull lines by Umberto Tagliavini Marine Design, the new OTAM 70HT is the epitome of the dynamic performance and timeless style that has made the iconic Italian brand instantly recognizable around the world.  Strong attention has been paid to details and stylistic features typical of the Otam brand such as the low centre of gravity, the large air intakes on the sides of the sundeck in the bow, as well as on the hard top. All air intakes convey into the spacious engine room, as in every Otam yacht. The exhaust vents are cleverly integrated into glossy black grilles in the aft bulwarks either side of the swim platform and can be accented with strip LED lighting, to become another design element themselves.  As with all Otam products, customization is a trademark and a clear corporate choice. With an overall length of just over 22 meters, and 21 degrees of deadrise, the 70HT offers an unmatched seaworthiness, unrivalled space and great comfort for a fast luxury cruiser of her size with extraordinary efficiency.  The owner of the first Otam 70HT chose a cockpit and salon with sofa seating along the portside for hosting large groups. Another cool design feature is the up-and-down electric glass screen separating the interior lounge and exterior cockpit, specifically requested by the owner. The glazing completely retracts between the two C-shaped sofas and, when lowered, opens up the interior and cockpit to provide a single en plein air space so owner and guests can interact whether they are inside or outside. The new Otam 70HT offers a comfy sunbed on top of the transom tender garage together with a second generous volume sun bed on the foredeck, integrated in the center bow muscle.  The first unit as chosen by the owned did not  feature a tender garage in order to maximize the beach area.  A key feature of the interiors is the futuristic dashboard, also designed by BG Design. It’s inspired by the aeronautical and automotive world and the design resembles the console of a jet fighter.  There are different options also available on the accommodation deck: Otam does not impose any solution but it designs the interiors together with the customer, always delivering an exclusive final product.  This first hull has a three cabins layout with an owner’s suite, two guests, separate galley and a crew cabin for two in the bow with independent access for a total privacy. Clients are free to choose their own layout and interior solutions, limitless customization is Otam calling card, synonymous with luxury craftsmanship in the world.  The first unit is powered by twin 2000hp MTU engines coupled to Arneson drives and custom Otam-Rolla propellers.  The shipyard also offers a most powerful version with 2400hp CAT, reaching a top speed of 53 knots which, combined with the hull designed by Marine Design by Scorzoni Tagliavini and Moltedo, ensures an unparalleled efficiency.  Seakeeper gyro stabilizers can be fitted for best comfort both under way and at anchor.

Project: Otam Custom Range 115

Following in the wake of the award-winning first unit in the Otam Custom Range the 35m Gipsy, designed by Tommaso Spadolini, , the Ligurian shipyard now present another fully engineered 115-foot proposal. However, the only thing the two projects have in common is their length overall, with this new design arriving as one of the fastest alloy super sport yachts on the water capable of reaching 44 knots.  The exterior lines by BG Design Firm, the same studio behind the new Otam 70 HT, are inspired by the aeronautical and automotive worlds to reflect the brand’s racy DNA. Design details include the chromed ventilation vents in the transom and the air inlet on top of the hardtop.  The deep-V hull has been developed by Umberto Tagliavini Marine Design to provide excellent seakeeping, comfortable entry into waves and high speeds. Extensive Finite Element Analysis nsures a rigid hull that is not prone to flexing or twisting, while Computional Fluid Dynamics serve to optimize performance and handling at sea.  Clients can choose between a 3-engine configuration with MTU 2600hp engines and a KaMeWa waterjet central booster for a top speed of 44 knots and a cruise of 32, or twin units of the same engines for a top speed of 35 knots, cruising at 28.  The four stateroom standard layout comprises an airy, open-plan salon and dining area behind the wheelhouse on the main deck where the extensive glazing is designed to provide panoramic sea views, even when seated. There are two ensuite guest staterooms on the lower deck, a large VIP stateroom and a full-beam master stateroom amidships, together with a gym or SPA or a big pantry for best service on board. Otam is to build what Clients desire and request with limitless solutions can be designed the reflect a Buyer’s preference in full.

Improve-It = Otam 65 HT

The second of three new Otam's for 2020, this unique 65 HT has been delivered. The iconic exterior has been adapted to meet the specific demands of a deeply passionate and brave owner, driven by the desire to create a brand new design, a true one-off in Otam style. At the customer’s request, the Francesco Guida Design firm designed the styling and details of the internal layout and of the external cockpit, giving the yacht even more personality and translating the specific requests of the customer with a high attention to detail.  The interiors have been inspired to that of a private with raw carbon being visible in some areas to underline the performance aspect of the sport yacht.  This Otam 65 HT also sets itself apart from previous 65 units for having extensive use of carbon fibre in the build process, and also for being equipped with twin 2000hp MTU engines.  These engines set a new record for Otam's 65th anniversary, making it the fastest build ever by reaching top speeds up to sixty knots and a cruise of fifty knots.  Considering that most Otams reach fifty knots max this is a huge achievement and may 65 feet plus 65 years does indeed equal sixty knots.

New Model: Otam 85 GTS

Otam is pleased to announce that the 85 GTS full custom version was launched ahead of schedule, having successfully achieved greater speeds than the ones established in the contract. The new Otam 85 GTS which is based on the 80 Record HT model hull but differs in everything else.  The Otam 85 GTS will have its official debut at the 2019 Cannes boat in September 2019.  The design and engineering of this custom fast open fast super yacht is powered by a pair of 2600hp MTU engines and Arneson transmission that can reach and exceed 45 knots maximum speed and 35 knot cruising speed, is the result of the collaborative efforts of CEO Gianfranco Zanoni, who is also Production director and tester as Otam mechanical engineer, and Umberto Tagliavini, from Marine Design and Services.  The Paris based Joseph Dirand Architecture firm, represented by Maxime Foster, dealt with all the details of the interior layout and design, according to the wishes of the owner. Max Riedl from the German company Cornelsen and Partner was the Technical Surveyor representing the owner, with Damien Sauvage from Sauvage powerboats acting as commissioning supervisor.  The external layout offers huge convivial and relaxation areas, translating the needs and requests of a customer who wanted to customize and build this unit as an Open Day Boat for his summer property. This 85 semi-open GTS is therefore able to cruise safely and without turbulence, ensuring the greatest comfort aboard even at top speeds above 45 knots.  The shape of the semi-open hard top is made with advanced composite materials that have been specifically modeled according to the customer’s specific style. It integrates the engines’ air inlets, protects the areas served by grills for outdoor lunches and dinners and perfectly conceals the mechanism for opening the top, which is also fully customized.  With the two large master-suites each with their own bathroom in the bow and at the center of the yacht with max beam, in addition to the practical galley and the living room/dinette opposite, and another third bathroom for the guests, the spaciousness of this yacht’s internal layout can be immediately perceived. The crew's quarters in the bow can be accessed independently from the VIP and Guest areas for high quality of life on board.

Project: Otam 85 GTS

Otam with more than sixty years of power boating experience is proud to present its new 85 GTS, the result of the Italian yard’s research after the success of its iconic 80 HT.  The project was developed with long-standing partner Umberto Tagliavini’s and in collaboration with Niccolò Pasquini and Alessio Riccobaldi from R+P Architecture studio, the latter already working on further Otam Custom Range models. For the first time, the owner of an Otam may choose between several configurations for the bow area, including the possibility of a lounge and coffee table or a spacious sunbathing area.  The result is a flexible Open that offers the maximum in comfort both while underway and at anchor.  The special supercar inspired gullwing hardtop, with a structure based on a central spine, while underway with the wings lowered give a sense of complete protection with very little turbulence, and when at anchor all you have to do is raise the two wings to feel in close contact with surrounding nature.  This sensation is amplified by the open transom that allows for easy and safe access to the water and by the bow area that provides another place to use as either a dining or sunbathing zone, always with the maximum level of comfort and privacy. Confirming the intention of Otam not to limit either the aesthetic or technical customization possibilities, the yard lets the owner choose all the details and customize in pure Otam DNA every part of the boat, from the interior layout to every single particular.  Comfort is linked to the sportive character inherent in Otam’s DNA with the two propulsion options: twin 2600hp MTU engines for a top speed of 45 knots and a 35 knot cruising speed, or twin 1925hp CAT engines for a top speed of 38 knots and a cruising speed of 32 knots. Both options use Arneson surface drive propulsion for the best in efficiency.

Project: Otam Custom Range 115

Otam presents the Custom Range 115 a demonstration of the will and ability of the Italian yard to propose super yachts with ever changing aesthetics. With sleek modern lines this new concept designed by Niccolò Pasquini and Alessio Riccobaldi from R+P Architecture closely follows the guidelines requested by a potential buyer, who has requested styling diametrically opposed to the classic lines of the 35 meter Gypsy, launched in 2016, the first unit in the Otam Custom Range, which was awarded some of the world's most prestigious awards: the 'Showboat Design Award' and 'The World Superyacht Award'. So, compared to Gypsy, here we have a more classic main deck layout, characterized by a fifty plus square meter zone completely dedicated to the owner, where he can decide himself how to use the impressive available space in line with Otams Custom Range philosophy that allows for limitless personalization possibilities.  In this first proposal, the day area of the main deck includes a large lounge, a dining area, a day toilet and a spacious kitchen. The seventy squared meters of space on the lower deck is completely dedicated to the guest's quarters, featuring four fully equipped VIP cabins. The fifty square meters of crew space is worthy of note and includes three double cabins, a spacious dinette and the laundry. This gives crew the maximum in comfort with separate access to maximize guest privacy. Looking aft, choice is the key for the garage and the beach club. The owner can choose between a classic garage, or a garage with a lateral opening to host a larger tender. With the former, the beach club features a platform with easy and safe access to the water for the guests. If the owner chooses the garage with a lateral opening, the total area dedicated to the beach club is even larger with even more possibilities for customization: diving area, bar, children's playroom, and gym, all in accordance with the owner desires.  To conclude the panorama of options for the lower deck, as always the Italian yard has dedicated special attention to the engine room, assuring ample space and a functional layout to provide the best possible access to all machinery for obvious reasons of safety and maintenance.  Returning to the upper deck, the concept of customization is clearly illustrated by the possibility to use the exterior part of the deck to host either an entertainment area or a seven meter long tender with it's own launching crane. In the yard's first layout proposal, the noteworthy In and Out dining area is surrounded by full height windows that never interrupt contact with the sea and the surrounding environment. The upper deck salon can also be completely personalized according to the desires of the owner.  This deck is also host to the bridge that directly connects to the captain's quarters.  The thirty square meters of fore-deck area are dedicated to sunbathing, with the possibility to create another dining area sheltered from prying eyes, thanks to the height of the bulwarks. The fully functional forward part of the deck is dedicated to docking and anchoring gear and equipped with two large storage compartments.  The layout of the fifty plus square meters of sun deck is at the complete discretion of the owner: in the yard's first proposal, a jacuzzi is located at the bow and surrounded by two large sunbathing areas with two fore and aft L-shaped settees, a bar zone and another dining area sheltered by a hardtop.

Improve-it = Otam 45 Millennium

For the fall of 2017 and available in a build time of around eight months, Otam presents a new open transom version for the 45 Millennium, popular entry level model of the Ligurian fast sport cruiser and yacht builder.  Produced since 1997 the Otam 45 Heritage later on renamed as Millennium has been a popular made to order model in its line, making success for its aggressive performance and second to none sea keeping abilities thanks to a pure deep-V hull.  This new addition of the Otam 45 Millennium also adds new propulsion options such as the choice of Volvo IPS pod drives.

New Model: Otam SD35

With this new flagship launch Otam has made again a statement to the way it approaches the market.  Built of alloy and featuring three decks the new SD35 is a new kind of launch to the previously build 75 high performance sport cruisers and yachts from 45 to eighty feet Otam has delivered.  Yet again Otam has again impressed, for its current largest build to date. The Italian builder in the build of this new flagship is also very proud of the all Italian nature for the SD35 from the designer to the builders. It will be interesting to see how Otam will feature in this market in the future. A builder from Rome had a similar pattern about a decade ago yet till today it only delivered one 140 feet triple deck super yacht, despite it being of good high quality.  So the question comes automatic is the SD35 just a one off or we will see more of it from Otam.  I think only the future will answer the question.

Project: Otam 80 Millennium Open

Italian yacht builder Otam presents the project of the 80 Millennium Open, which is one of the most exciting sports yachts to hit the market in a long time. The 80 Millennium Open retains all the technical virtues of its predecessors 80 HT-Hard Top. There is the classic deep-V hull with its generous dead-rise angle that cushions the ride. The Otam power goes around a hearty two or four engine propulsion option;  leisure and performance versions, original MTU 2600 HP diesels coupled with the Arneson drives can be replaced by four MTU with Trimax drives. The new version of the Otam 80 is the result of the idea of a completely open yacht that fulfills today’s market demand for super sports yachts and chase boats. Starting with the proven Fabio Buzzi hull shape, the yacht designer Alberto Mancini wanted to emphasize speed, with a very protective windscreen that wraps around both sides of the cockpit and terminates with the large carbon air intakes, clearly derived from automotive lines. The roll-bar is color coordinated with the hull scheme, that Mancini and Otam wanted in five different custom color variations, with colors that are unique, sporting and elegant; Racing Blue, Maranello Red, Titanium, Black and Gold Grey. Of course, full custom color schemes are always possible. The deck layout was specifically designed to take advantage of the external cockpit: a facing twin C-shaped settee that can be covered with the Bimini top or an optional hard top, and a double bar completely equipped for both a day trip or a real open air passage: ice makers, capacious refrigerators and grills. The spacious sun bathing area is astern, above the tender garage, with another sun-pad zone to fore. All the outdoor upholstery uses new materials especially designed to integrate with the tones of the chosen hull color scheme. The internal layout is available in the three or four cabin versions, with the owners suite amidships and the VIP suite forward, with two twin cabins, or as completely customized guest cabins. The 80 Millennium Open represents a yacht that promises speed with a twist of luxury, with a top speed of 50 knots, but Otam is still experimenting with propellers and is confident that a new set of Rolla propellers will take this up to 55-58.

Project: Otam 100 Millenium

Otam has recently presented the project for a new flagship the 100 Millennium. At 100 feet in length the new big Otam captures the aggressiveness of its smaller sisters, but presents in its some first solutions for the Otam brand; as a full walk around bulwark protected side decks, sport fly-bridge, and a fore-deck dinette. As in all Otam's even the small 45, customization is key and so is it on the 100 Millennium. The fore deck for example is offered with another different layout featuring three L-shaped dinettes, and two sun-pads. The lower deck standard plan features four double cabins with the usual layout of full beam amidships owners stateroom, forward VIP, and two twin berth guest cabins in between. But even here Otam offers a five double cabins more charter friendly plan, with two VIP suites amidships replacing the large owners stateroom on the standard layout. Crew accommodation features two cabins which share a shower head. To starboard side of the crew cabins at midships is also an L-shaped galley and dinette. Power is standard twin 2600hp MTU or optional triple units of the same engines.

Awaited for like over half a decade this is the Otam 50 Millennium, the most performance orientated of the seven model range from this builder.  Considering that all Otam are capable of fifty knots plus of performance with the large engine choice that is a huge statement.  But unlike its other sister the 50 Millennium takes this titles mostly for a slim hull and an inbuilt integrated surface drive propulsion system.  Inside the Otam still offers accommodation with a forward owners cabin, and port side located guest cabin.  The second guest cabin can also become an entertainment lounger thanks to the opening and sliing of its bulk head. Two shower heads one of which ensuite for the owners cabin serve the guests. An L-shaped galley is located to starboard.  A separate single berth crew cabin is located to fore. The main deck cockpit has a traditional layout with a sunpad, C-shaped dinette, and two settee helm station all this resting to port side with a corridor to starboard.  Power is twin Cat 1015hp which give a 54 knots max speed.

New Model: Otam 58 Millennium Open

Seems like a totally reinvented model but actually the hull lines of the new 58 Millennium Open come from the 1997 presented 55, which recently became the 58 thanks to a redesign of the hard top. But the 58 Millennium Open is a new boat from what is above the hull, and this includes the interior cabin area, exterior aft deck layout, and the super structure. Surprisingly although newer the 58 Millennium Open lines and windshield do embrace more classic looks then to the older HT version. Below the offer is for two layouts with the standard being two cabins owners room to fore, guest midship, and a crew room. Second choice gives a fore cabin with two french beds, a second guest double to midship, and a crew room which moves to fore. Power is from twin 1650hp Cat engines which gives this 28 tons plus Sport Yacht a well respected 55 knots speed.

New Model: Otam 65 Millennium HT

In one of the most difficult periods for pleasure yachting, Otam shows its fighting spirit on display at the latest Genoa Boat Show by presenting its second new model for the 2009 season. The boatyard, which has brilliantly created a tailor made concept to the world of Sport Cruisers and Yachts from 45 to 80 feet, presented itself at Genoa with the second new model for the year: 65 Millennium HT, following the other 2009 novelty of the 58 Millennium Open launched in Cannes. Otam 65 Millennium HT is the fifth model of the Italian Liguria builder and was born from the clever skills of the yards own internal technical office which was given the arduous task of rethinking the concept of a Sport Yacht in the Otam point of view. The modern and slender profile is enhanced by the original design of the windows in the hard-top, all of this underlined by a fine hull line, stretched out on the water that ensures great performance thanks to the planing hull which follows the tradition of the yard excellence of super sea keeping skills. The strong point of the 65 Millennium HT is the integration between interior and exterior, thanks to a crystal main deck patio door that slides away completely allowing one to create a main deck with a single environment with the lounge: an open space of large dimensions which when necessary can be turned back into two areas, separating outside from inside with all its conveniences. A distinctive sign of the Otam models is the bridge to port, with adjustable seats for the master and co-pilot behind which there is a comfortable and spacious couch. In this space, just as throughout the yacht, attention to detail has steered the hand and the thoughts of the designers. Soft, curvaceous lines house a corner bar equipped with a refrigerator and foldaway plasma TV system. All of this surrounded by windows that offer a full exterior view. Inside the standard accommodation plan is for three cabins all with three heads, with a c-shaped saloon, and galley. Owners stateroom is to fore, with a VIP suite located mid ship to port, and a crew or single guest cabin to starboard. Estimated performance which is always above fifty knots for any Otam's does not disappoint with the Santa Margherita 1954 founded builder estimating a 52 knots of cruising speed with twin Cats C32 Acert of 1825hp each.
