A nine meter powerboat with four persons onboard, started to sink and later capsized at the entrance which connects Lake Michigan to Black River, in South Haven, Michigan on 18:55 hours of July nine. According to witnesses the powerboat entered the channel stalled and semi-sunk, with four persons onboard ending in the water as the boat raised its bow before it capsized and sank. The four persons where assisted by a nearby boater who threw life jackets, and then took rescued three people out of the water and onboard, with a fourth being helped out by people from the jetty. The four people were uninjured. Van Buren County Sheriff Marine Police and South Haven Area Emergency Services responded to the sinking. A salvage operation has been organized to recover the powerboat.
The powerboat in this capsizing looks to be a Wellcraft Scarab 30 Panther which was produced in around the mid eighties.
