Project: Leopard 28m

Things are getting in motion at the revived Leopard Yachts, with this 28m project starting construction in 2022.  Leopard returned back to life in 2021 acquired by Seven Stars after Paolo Picchiotti blessed the acquisition of the legendary name, which was a sub name of Cantieri Navali Arno introduced in 1973 to the avant garde Poalo Caliari designs introduced in that year, which eventually became permanent.  The Leopard 28m comes from a design of Andrea Ramasco, known for his work for Amer yachts, and naval architecture courtesy of Optima from La Spezia.  Permare is helping in the construction of this first Leopard 28m, with the new ownership having high hopes in following the success of the Paolo Caliari 27m Sport model sold in 48 units in a sixteen year production run from 1995 to 2011 which this model replaces.  The Leopard 28m will feature a sport bridge design, and a sleek profile full of windows.  Leopard is not giving any details for the interior of the 28m, although sport yachts in this size usually have a four double cabins layout with full beam owners stateroom, and two crew cabins for three or four persons.  The Leopard 28m is to be powered by triple Volvo 1000hp and IPS pod drives propulsion who should give an estimated top speed up to 32 knots and a cruise of 28.  The first unit is expected to go in the water this 2023 year.

Paolo Caliari 1932 - 2014

Remembering Paolo Caliari also known as the father of Mediterranean yacht design who left for the better World on Sunday 13 April 2014.  Born in 1932 Paolo Caliari becomes a World renowned yacht designer who contributed not only to the birth of the so called Italian Mediterranean style of yachting, but is considered as one of the fathers of contemporary style.  He played a pioneer role in shaping yacht design as is known today, understood as a combination of knowledge, skills and processes, which are organized around technological research.  Paolo Caliari is the designer of many legandary boats mostly characterizing a combination of both aggressive forms and clear, elegant straight lines.  In his career Paolo has worked for a whose who list in the global yachting industry from the sixties till the nineties for such names as Alalunga, Arno, Baglietto, Denison, Donzi, Esterel, Intermarine, Mochi, Picchioti Proteksan, Roscioli, Sanlorenzo, Tecnomarine, Wellcraft, and Vosper.  One of his longest standing collaboration came with Cantieri Navali dell Arno and its Leopard range which started in the seventies and continued till near the end of his career.  Arno Leopard made a special hit with the mid eighties started important 20m model, at that time the largest open sport yacht which made school and over the years morphed in a series of models including the popular 27.  Paolo Caliari best selling design was the Tecnomarine C42 which started production in 1973 and lasted till 1986 and sold over one hundred units.  Caliari at some points in his career also had a brand of his own with the Caliari Yacht offshoot produced in collaboration with Mochi in the late eighties and early nineties. Worth to note that some of the famous Italian Yacht designers and naval architects who will make hit over the years also started as assistants in his studio; Aldo Cichero, Andrea Basicalupo, Anna and Franco Dellarolle, and last but not least his son Pier Luigi Caliari who with assistance from father Paolo and collaborators Carlo Donati and Carola Gentilini founded the Caliari Architects Yacht Design in 2010.

Arno Leopard New Web Site

Arno Leopard updates its website to a new platform. Arno Leopard starts in 1973 but the story starts in 1907 when Giuseppe Picchiotti and Sons is founded on the limits of the Arno River.  Picchiotti is according to historical data a family which is part of Italy and Tuscany's naval history since the sixteenth century when Grand Duke Cosimo I dei Medici develops the Navicelli canals in order to make transport of goods to Pisa and Livorno easier and faster, with a 1575 document showing Picchiotti as a shipwright on the Arno river.  Apart Arno Leopard, Picchiotti is an important name in the Italian yachting scene after World War Two, from the actual Picchiotti of Viareggio, to 1972 founded Tecnomarine of Filippo, and the eighties Bluemarine from Paolo.  In 1935 Raffaello, Alessandro, Lorenzo and Nello, the sons of Giuseppe Picchiotti rename the yard to Cantieri Navali Arno.  Up till the sixties Cantieri Navali Arno will help and be part of the Picchiotti family boat building linage helping out in the various internal and international governments commissioned builds. During World War Two Cantieri Arno suffers the total destruction of the yard, burned down to the ground by the German army.  Following the war and with help from the US Government Cantieri Navali Arno is rebuild.  In the sixties Cantieri Arno is part of the Picchiotti from Viareggio, helping in the building of some of the successful semi-production wood cruisers and yachts models which debuts in 1955 with the Versilia and will end twelve models later and the 68 in 1975.  Arno will become a separate entity from Picchiotti in 1973 when it presents its first Leopard 15mt model as designed by Paolo Caliari, which coincides with the shipyard signing an exclusive sales agreement with Gerard Rodriguez.  Paolo Caliari will go to design all the Leopard models till his retirement; totalling elven models and finishing with the 26 MY model which launched in 2000.  In 1984 Arno Leopard launches its first fiberglass yacht, the Sport 19, with the prototype of this model build in aluminium.  The Leopard Sport 19 along with it's evolutions the Sport 20 and Sport 21.50, will prove very important for Arno, also because when launched the 20 was the largest sport yacht ever produced. The new millennium sees the production yard move to a bigger nine covered sheds establishment, with easier sea connection for the bigger yachts, and Andrea Bacigalupo a Caliari pupil taking the task of continuing the family feeling in the Leopard designs from 2004. In 2008 after 28 years of cooperation, Arno cancels the exclusive sales agreement with South of France based Rodriguez Group.  Arno Leopard current range features two lines Composite and Steel, and starts from the 32 M up to the still in project 56 M. Its latest model is the 2010 launched 43 M. The new Arno website is available in Italian and English language and takes you around with the following buttons; Company, Shipyard, Yachts Range, Service, Preowned, Charter Club, and and Contacts.

New Model: Arno Leopard 43M

Continuing its aim into bigger sizes Arno shipyard launches its second current large model the 43M, which follows the 46M presented in 2008. The 43M continues the Super Sport Yacht philosophy, with exterior design entrusted to Andrea Bacigalupo, and the interior to Cristiano Gatto. The 43M apart being luxurious wants also to present a practical design helping living elements join with those of the open sea life. Worth to note the incredible space of the main deck having a length of eighteen meters, which offers comfortable living areas. The lower deck offers four double guest cabins; owners to mid ship, VIP to fore, and twin guest room. Crew accommodation located to fore peak is for seven berths, and this area includes a lobby with saloon and galley. Interesting notes of the 43M are the Jacuzzi bath on the invisible sport flybridge, and a tender garage with space for three personal water crafts, including a RIB up to 5.65 meters in size. Performance is from a standard three MTU 2399hp engines giving 34 knots max, or plus four knots to this with the additional booster.

Projects: Arno Leopard 43M, Arno Leopard 56M

Arno Leopard who comes from its announced independence from Rodriguez Group, will go to the upcoming Autumn boats shows by presenting its new 43M, and also giving further preview details of the 56M project. The first pictured above is the project of the second in size in the current Leopard range. This new model as the above rendering clearly shows takes a lot from the current Arno Leopard flagship, of which the 43M will be only three metres short. The 43M will be built of fiberglass and continues the Leopard Super Sport Yacht heritage. Still as has been the case with the bigger Sport Yachts of later generation, a further second flybridge helm station is available upon request. Designed as all recent Arno Leopard by Architect Bacigalupo, who has been quite a genius in giving a smooth transition to the previous Caliari designs, which still feature in the range as the 23M and 27M. The 56M will be Arno Leopards future flagship, and if I am correct at 56 metre will also be the biggest fiberglass built to date. What impresses surely of the 56M in this design rendering is that this three deck Super Sport Yacht, has very sleek looking lines which hide the height and this predominant feature. Surely Architect Bacigalupo did work the length to his advantage, none the less this might make a trend for the creation of bigger sport looking super yachts. Launching for the new Arno Leopard flagship is scheduled for 2010.
