Project: Codecasa 43 Full Beam Vintage Series F.76

The path was taken when at the Monaco Yacht Show 2011 Codecasa Shipyards unveiled in front of the whole world their new Vintage Series, through the exhibition of the first unit the 42 Hull F73, that achieved such a resounding success among the industry fans and experts to be awarded with the Nautical Design Awards 2011 for the Best Interior Design.  Two years later, that success was strengthened through the launching of sister-ship, Hull F75, completed in July 2013. Same as the previous Yacht and still fully representing the distinctive and identifying traits of the whole line, this hull was also inspired by a classic style and traditional lines in the exterior design as well as in the interior, as by a continuous and careful application of cutting edge and last generation technologies, able to obtain the best performances in terms of reliability and safety, comfort for the owner and his guests, respect and safeguard of the environment.  Confirming their strong confidence in this new line of Yachts, Codecasa Shipyards delivered in Summer 2015 the first unit of the new 50 Vintage Series Hull C121, and in Summer 2016 it is scheduled the launching of the new 43 Full Beam , the design of which was developed starting from the platform of the 42.  The new 43 Full Beam, thanks first of all to its overall length increased of about half a meter in the aft area with respect to the 42, offers more comfortable working and service areas around the tender installed in the aft garage.  Innovations, anyway, go far beyond. The interiors designed by Tommaso Spadolini who, with the co-operation of the in-house technical staff, got down to work and developed a totally new layout, designed on purpose for Hull F76.  As far as the owner’s areas are concerned, the major innovation is the full beam layout of the owner’s Suite, located forward on the Main Deck as on the two Codecasa 42’s, but featuring larger spaces than on these two units, enabling to add also a private office inside the apartment.  Going up to the bridge deck, the captain’s cabin with its en-suite bathroom is adjacent the wheelhouse. On the Codecasa 43 Full Beam, therefore, the Captain has his own cabin in direct contact with the bridge and separate from the other four Crew cabins in the lower Deck, all of them for the yacht staff. Larger and brighter hallways and a panoramic staircase connect the three interior decks. Bigger windows than the ones of the 42 are the key features of all areas, from the Owner’s suite up to the main deck and bridge deck salons.  The shipyards designers skillful hands, anyway, did not overlook the exterior decks either and they did their best to make them even more comfortable and equipped: an exterior living area with sofas, settees and tables in fact has been created in the Portuguese bridge forward the wheelhouse, obtaining an extremely private and reserved space, very useful when the yacht is moored at the dock. The sun deck is equipped with a Jacuzzi tub, installed far forward.  Equipped with two Caterpillar 1650hp each able to reach a top speed of 16.5 knots in light displacement conditions and a range of 4,000 nautical miles at the cruise of 11 knots, the Codecasa 43 Full Beam Vintage Series, same as the two previous units of the 42, is meant to become another excellent achievement for Codecasa Shipyards, a small jewel of the sea, able to assure a safe and comfortable cruising in any weather and sea conditions, with interior volumes slightly under 500 tons GRT, absolutely remarkable exterior spaces, clean and elegant lines, reasonable consumption, and very high building standards.

New Model: Hatteras 70 Motor Yacht

It's really coming full circle at the moment for Hatteras in the last two years, with new models proving to be a success after another.  The motor yacht series is the one that most benefited since Versa Capital took over Hatteras in 2013, with three new models being presented in a space of couple years.  Designed as the 100 and the upcoming 90 by Enrico Gobbi of T4 Design Italy the 70 Motor Yacht fits perfectly in the Hatteras puzzle, filling the gap perfectly in between models. The 70 Motor Yacht features a four double cabins lower deck, with a crew cabin and lobby aft. The main deck is offered with two arrangements one reflecting a more American open area, and the other offering a more conservative Mediterranean Europe approach.

Project: Pershing 5X

After many years we see Pershing coming to the sub sixty feet sizes with a total new project, the 5x. I remind to my readers that the last new project in this size from Pershing was the 56 from 2005, which later on became the 58 and today is the 62. The 5x is an innovative departure for Pershing which takes design cues from the much acclaimed and best selling 2014 introduced 70, and brings them in a smaller package of 54 feet length-over-all.  The 5x will also bring some first not only for Pershing but for all the Ferretti Group, with the 5x being available with Volvo IPS pod drives, along with the usual high performance surface drives option.  Yes it has been ten years plus since 2005, when IPS was presented to the public and Ferretti Group publicly never showed interest in the forward looking pod system. Honestly this is a curious turn of events, and will be interesting if we see more Ferretti Group boats with IPS pod drives from now on.  The Pershing 5x will have a one layout of two double cabins, including a full beam midships owners cabin, and VIP suite to fore. In between the cabins is a C-shaped dinette to port side, and L-shaped galley opposite.  So far the 5x is offered in a two cabins layout, but seeing the main deck is of the enclosed or fully open hydraulic variant, I think it would be easy for Pershing to offer a third cabin option albeit small in replacement of the dinette below.  From the layout rendering I can see the Pershing 5x feeling bigger to what actually she is, especially when looking or coming from aft, with an interesting large yacht feel coming from the aft-deck going to the side deck up until midships. As this whole area will be of a flat deck format, no steps.  Now performance numbers, the Volvo IPS will have the 725hp units and will give 35 knots max speed and 30 cruise.  Cat surface drives option will be of 1000hp and give a 45 knots top speed to the 25 ton Pershing 5x.

Fairline Goes Down

2015 ended with the bad news about Fairline going bankrupt, one of Britain's top three builders who has a huge following and has delivered over twelve thousand boats since its founding in 1963.  Fairline has paid the price for being a slow reactor in the last ten or so years, a full beam midships sixteen/seventeen meters motor yacht with the 2008 launched Squadron 55, meaning eight years behind Azimut 55 does not cut it for example.
Seeing the future of Fairline is hard.
As buyers go this should not be a huge problem, unless you really like Fairline.  Todays buyer has a competitive alive choice, filling the void with Fairline's inept reaction of the last years, and that of forever never coming for a new model.  The likes of AbsoluteBeneteau Group with the MonteCarlo and Prestige brands, and Galeon are the new comers in this stage of the last five to ten years.  Then you have the traditional competition from Azimut, Princess, and Sunseeker
The Fairline brand is full of potential, and the following is great, but being competitive and always attentive to the latest trends is a must and not an option any more nowadays.  That is you cannot react two years or more down the line to put an astern galley if this what the clients and market are asking for.

Bavaria and Transfluid Agree to Coperate

Germany’s largest shipyard for catamarans, sailing yachts and motor boats, Bavaria Yachtbau GmbH, and the well-known Italian power transmission manufacturer, Transfluid Trasmissioni Industriali, have reached a cooperation agreement. The aim is to offer innovative hybrid drive trains for yachts built by Bavaria Yachtbau. The first yacht from Bavaria Yachtbau to be fitted with a Transfluid hybrid system is the new semi-displacement motor yacht Bavaria E40.  Bavaria Yachtbau GmbH and Transfluid Trasmissioni Industriali share a flair for innovation, a high level of technical expertise and strong quality demand. The two companies have now reached a long-term cooperation agreement on the development and installation of hybrid drive line in yachts built by Bavaria Yachtbau. The Italian company from Gallarate has almost 60 years of experience in building power transmissions for industry and vehicles. It is in particular in the field of hybrid systems for marine applications that Transfluid engineers and technicians have a wealth of experience. One unique feature is the possibility to use Transfluid's hybrid system, which consists of a hybrid module that integrates the clutch on which the electrical machine is mounted and connects directly onto the flywheel of the Diesel engine. The new semi-displacement motor-yacht Bavaria E40 is the first project on the agenda of the engineers of Transfluid and Bavaria Yachtbau. They will be in a position to test the first prototype of the Bavaria E40 in the spring 2016. The first boat with a hybrid propulsion will be available at the end of 2016. During navigation the skipper can switch between Diesel and electric mode or use the booster mode in which both propulsion systems are used together, without the need to stop the boat. Only a simple button is required for the innovative Transfluid hybrid system to switch between modes.  Ugo Pavesi, Managing Director of Transfluid, confirms the value of this innovative project, in line with the recent International Agreement signed in Paris for world pollution reduction. This project promotes "Slow Sail", a new way to live and enjoy the sea.  Transfluid is proud of this partnership with a world leading boat builder.  This agreement shows the excellent reputation achieved by Transfluid not only regarding industrial products but even focusing on marine applications.

Bennetti and Henrik Fisker Team Up

Entrepreneur and acclaimed international designer Henrik Fisker, the founder of Henrik Fisker Design, and influential global superyacht builder Benetti are joining forces to create a series of innovative 50 meter superyachts. The collaboration is focused on a new 50 meter yacht with naval architecture by Benetti. The yacht will be designed in California and built at the Benetti facilities in Livorno, at the heart of the Tuscan coastline.  The concept will integrate a new platform developed by Benetti’s engineering team with Fisker’s sporty exterior and interior designs.  Fisker is pioneering a new design concept to enhance and optimize the on-board experience by utilizing more space on the vast superyacht for both hosting and leisure. The design will add a new “human flow” element to reduce unused space and increase its usability. The yacht exterior will have a dramatic body using light weight carbon fiber and other exotic materials, as well as optimized ocean views from all major cabins and use reclaimed wood, integrated solar panels and optional hybrid power. The interiors will feature the new design concept for each of the three decks that will enhance the space and emphasize comfortable and clean luxury living in a pristine environment. The interiors will feature advanced and sustainable materials, and state-of-the-art technology for automated controls and optimal power management. Benetti Mega Year Book Celebrating Success

The Benetti Magazine is aptly called BE Inspired by Italian Genius. To complement its more informative take on all things Benetti, we have decided to launch an annual yearbook called, not surprisingly, Benetti Inspirations: and since our business is in mega-yachts, we have chosen to make this a mega-book.  The extra-wide horizontal format showcases our differently styled yachts and provides a perfect layout for our extraordinary collection of both exterior and interior shots.  Benetti Inspirations also offers a unique insight into our way of life: from the backstage of our advertising to the craftsmanship and dedication to quality that link us to our partners. Benetti Inspirations will be launched at the Miami Boat Show with a dedicated event for the yachting press.

Fairline Future Secured

The new company, Fairline Yachts, is funded by two long term UK-based Russian investors, who are both highly experienced in managing and developing marine businesses and in the production of high technology products, IT and media services. Both are also passionate boat owners.  Russell Currie has been appointed as Managing Director to lead the new business. With nearly 30 years directly relevant experience, Russell has a very strong background in the luxury motor yacht industry. A Fairline dealer since 1998, Russell is CEO of Fairline North Mallorca, where he has achieved over £90million of sales. Prior to his role at Fairline North Mallorca, Russell was Engineering Director at Sunseeker International’s factory team based at Mallorca, and was Chief Test Engineer at Princess Yachts International before that. The appointment of Russell ensures continuity of senior management at Fairline Yachts and safeguards close customer and boat dealer relations under the new ownership structure.  The newly formed company will operate from its manufacturing facilities in Oundle, Northamptonshire.

Ferretti Custom Line Wins MBY Awards 2016

If a good beginning makes a good ending, this 2016, when Custom Line celebrates its 20th anniversary, is destined to become a long season of successes and awards. And it couldn't be otherwise, when your fleet may include the Navetta 28, jewel of the brand's semi-displacement series. In fact, this remarkable maxi-yacht has won the 2016 “Motor Boat Awards”, the first of this nautical year, held by IPC Media of Britain - the publishing house of some of the most famous European magazines in the sector.  The award was presented to the Italian maxi-yacht during a gala dinner on January 11th at London's Rosewood Hotel, as part of the 62nd edition of the London Boat Show, set to continue until January 17th.  The Ferretti Group is attending the show together with its exclusive dealer Ventura UK.  Custom Line Navetta 28 triumphed in the “Custom Yacht” category, where the other seven finalists included some of the most important new crafts introduced by major international shipyards over the past several months. It's an award of exceptional value, as borne out by the fact that each yacht is professionally tested by expert journalists from the British publisher before it can enter the “short list” of finalists and thus be eligible to win.  “We're really pleased to begin the year of Custom Line's 20th anniversary with this award that honours one of our most important yachts - said Stefano de Vivo, Ferretti Group Chief Commercial Officer.  This is true not only because the prize was given in Great Britain, home of many of our most important competitors and a country with a great nautical tradition and culture, but also because it is awarded by a jury of professionals who choose the winner after an exhaustive series of sea trials and after taking into account the technical, appearance and innovative features of each yacht.  This victory also highlights the effectiveness of the design and build strategy that Custom Line has followed over the years, a strategy that has made it one of the most commercially successful brands on international markets.”  In this way, Custom Line Navetta 28 is continuing its remarkable run as the major player in its market segment, which it has enjoyed since its début at the 2014 Cannes Yachting Festival. Indeed, the Custom Line Navetta 28 has been successful on every market where it's been introduced.  From Europe to the Middle East all the way to Hong Kong, where the yacht debuted last October.

Gulf Craft Brings Luxury Seafaring to Omani Waters

Nordhavn's Depart for Cuba

A convoy of Nordhavns set sail yesterday from Key West, bound for Havana, Cuba, marking the first time a group of Nordhavns has explored the waters around the island nation. A second group of Nordhavns is set to converge in Cuba later in April, while still others will make the trek solo over the coming months.  Chatter amongst Nordhavn owners regarding a “Cuba Rally” has run rampant ever since the U.S. and Cuban governments announced a renewal of diplomatic relations last year. While several Nordhavns have individually been able to freely visit Cuba, now American owners – who make up the majority of Nordhavn ownership are finally able to take advantage of the unique cruising grounds and discover what it is that has made Cuba a popular tourist destination for the rest of the world.  The owners of more than 30 individual Nordhavns gathered at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show last November to meet and discuss final details regarding a Nordhavn rally to Cuba. It’s been months and months in the planning, said Cuba Rally Committee co-chair John Phillipson, culminating with the countdown that started in Miami last week. There, boats provisioned and readied prior to making their way down to Key West where most of the participating boats departed en masse. Meanwhile, others set out from other parts of the U.S., the Southern Caribbean and even Europe.  Once in Cuba, the boats will be together, though each with an individual itinerary, according to Phillipson, since some are restricted by the number of weeks they are able to stay. In those instances, the boats will spend most of their time in and around Havana while boats staying longer will visit Varadero, Trinidad, Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba.  Despite the legal Cuba travel opportunities that now exist for Americans, there is still a great deal of risk and many regulations must be adhered to.  Still, in the opinion of Phillipson as well as those in the group – the risks don’t outweigh the rewards.  A second fleet of Nordhavns is gathering steam for an early April departure to Cuba. Unlike Phillipson’s group which is strictly owner-organized and self-directed, this second rally will be under the guidance of Peter Swanson, editor-at-large for AIM media group which includes Passagemaker Magazine. For a fee, owners will pay to participate in what Swanson refers to as a Legal Cuba Rally via one of 12 general licenses that authorize U.S. citizens to travel by boat effectively eliminating the “risks” of visiting Cuba faced by those who ad-lib their trips. AIM will be overseeing America-Cuba cruises under the current regulations of the “people to people” exchanges, which don’t require a license or paperwork, but do include guidelines Americans are expected to follow. As their tour leader, Swanson becomes the “person subject to U.S. jurisdiction”, meaning if anyone in the group isn’t following the rules – knowingly or unknowingly – it’s his head on a platter.  The two Cuba rallies make an important commentary on the Nordhavn brand, said Jim Leishman. .

Nordhavn Embarks on Maiden Voyage

One of the most gorgeous Nordhavn 68s ever manufactured left Dana Point, CA, last week bound for Mexico on what is her first major journey. Nordhavn Yachts Southeast salesman and delivery captain, Devin Zwick, is at the helm of the yacht, enjoying a trouble-free delivery throughout Baja, Mexico en route to La Paz. What could be described perhaps as a leisurely delivery, there’s been no shortage of port stops with the owners enjoying visits to Rosarita, Isla Santa Margarita and Cabo San Lucas to name a few.

Numarine Announces New Dealers

In the last six months Numarine has not only been busy in building new products like the new 60 Fly, 70 Fly and 105HT, but it has also worked hard at improving the reach of its dealer network. The results speak for themselves: Numarine is now present in Spain with its Partner Living by Carlos in Mallorca, and with Yachts & Trade in Italy and Switzerland. Furthermore, in Malta, Morocco, and Tunisia Numarine is now present thanks to BHP Group from Malta, and in Egypt with Planet Navis out of Hurghada.   Yard has also strengthened its presence back home in Turkey with the new Partner Karina in Istanbul.  USA – along with Central and South America could not be left alone, especially now with the confirmed comeback of the market - indeed Numarine has brought on board Grande Yachts out of Maryland with its East Coast facilities and USA network of sub-dealers.  Burevestnik Group from Moscow joined the team for Russia, CIS and Montenegro. Andrey Boyko, CEO of Burevestnik stated “We are happy to be partners of Numarine - we needed in our portfolio a range of competitively priced, high-quality, customizable fly-bridges and open yachts that we could feel comfortable selling to our demanding clientele in search for fresh design and seaworthy performance.”  With its Hong Kong based partner Asian Marine expanding into Thailand and Philippines, and Q7 Marine ready to introduce the all-new 60HT into Australia and New Zealand, Numarine is certainly poised for continued growth in the coming months.

Sabre In The News

Readers who live in southern Maine will probably have seen local news coverage of the Sabre 66 Dirigo as it was transported through the streets of Rockland.  It's truly thrilling for Sabre to have been met with so much excitement and enthusiasm, not only in this aspect, but in every new phase of the 66 project. When Sabre chose to name this line 'Dirigo' they knew pride in this vessel would be immense, but never anticipated the level of acceptance and enthusiasm they have encountered across the state of Maine, and from the boating community as a whole.  It doesn't seem possible, but 2016 promises to be just as exciting, if not more so!

Viking New Year Bang

Peter Rhein and his crew on the Viking 62 Sneaky Pete started the new year off with a bang at the 36th Annual Pelican Club Billfish Invitational. Snotty seas kept the fleet at the docks on Day One but Day Two was a different story. Although still sporty, the boats headed out in search of sailfish. Sneaky Peteanglers David Kenny and Gregory Kizinski each released a sail to put the Sneaky Pete team in the mix.  The weather settled down and Day Three and Four saw 10 more sailfish for the Viking 62. When lines were called, Sneaky Pete claimed Second Place overall and David Kenny took Second Place Angler with nine releases.  As always, Pete was at the helm as nobody runs his boat but him. Having taken delivery of the boat this past summer Pete had this to say, "Our first day of fishing was rough, the weather really was beating everyone up but this boat handled like a baby carriage skipping through the ocean. And no one made it back to the dock before us."  So Pete will attest, the sails have arrived in Florida! The Gold Cup wrapped up yesterday and the last count was just shy of 200 sails released.

Viking at 44th Gold Cup

A chill in the air bode well for the Gold Cup last week. The fleet of 24 boats were snapping up sails with 196 released over four days of fishing and it was up to the final day to see which boat would take the win. When lines were called, three boats were tied with 14 releases which put the Viking 80 in Third Place based on time. The 80 crew was led by Team Captain Patrick Healey with Boat Captain Ryan Higgins and anglers Justin Healey, Don Gemmell, Dave Meyer, Pat Kelly, and Chris Kelly, along with mates Brian Komer and Scott Adams. Dave Anderson fishing on the Viking 70 Krazy Salt's claimed Third Place Angler with five sailfish releases.

Wider and Team Italia I Bridge

Wider has always stated that "one must keep away from boring convention and have the conviction to follow great new ideas in order to create really exceptional modern yachts". It singled out Team Italia as its partner for navigation electronics, entrusting development of the new, highly innovative bridge development project for Wider 150 M/Y “Genesi” to the company.  Team Italia I-Bridge is an innovative navigation system thanks to which the wheelhouse for M/Y Genesi is unique in terms of design and integration. The console enables users to choose from a variety of settings depending on the navigation context in which they find themselves, thanks to the use of mechatronic technologies which have been specially studied and designed for this super yacht.  From the very beginning, the project for Wider 150 M/Y Genesi was devised and developed giving special importance to the bridge and to the concept of navigation. More specifically, the study of the ergonomics required special solutions and customized electronics.  Combinations and ergonomics were developed and implemented with regards to mechatronics which allow users to adapt the bridge to the navigation context in which they find themselves.  Indeed, besides contextualisation of the navigation equipment for the various possible scenarios (deepsea, bluewater, approaching, mooring, docking) the configuration also provides for variations in the ergonomic settings of the entire dashboard (from linear to C shape configuration). User friendliness and integration are made possible through Team Italia's Mulitcontrol System.  The complexity of the project was dealt with through in-house pre-building and pre-mounting, making it possible to implement a series of functions and solutions actually during the work. The bridge was built at the Team Italia Development Centre thus offering the shipyard greater versatility in terms of technical and functional solutions, and most importantly without hindering the onboard production processes. The last few parts of the installation work were considerably simplified and most importantly made it possible to respect the pre-set timeline for the work.

Project: Vanquish VQ48

The brand-new Vanquish VQ48 was designed entirely from scratch, while respecting the typical lines of Dutch sport boat builder. A major focus was on the input of clients who were looking for a blend of some of the best features of the VQ43 and the VQ50. As a result, the foredeck of the VQ48 features a smaller version of the dinette on the VQ50 plus the popular sun beds found on the VQ43. The design also includes two specially developed steering positions, a large lounge sofa and a smartly designed convertible top which differs from traditional biminis thanks to its tubes and braces. To further underline the ‘drivers’ boat’ proposition of Vanquish Yachts and meet the demands of the clients, this model was developed in close cooperation with renowned designer Guido de Groot, which has an excellent reputation worldwide and has worked on award-winning yachts for yards such as Feadship, Jongert, Mulder, and AB Yachts. Thanks in part to its experience in car design, the renowned agency successfully interpreted our ideas in the best possible way.  The new VQ48 combines the characteristic shape, awesome agility, supreme comfort and premium build quality that all Vanquish sports boats share while taking the design to an even higher level of sophistication. One of the highlights is the way a beautiful rub rail is incorporated into the design. We also offer you the opportunity to customise the VQ48 in accordance with your personal wishes and demands. Inside the VQ48 will feature a double berth a small saloon, shower head, and a galley wet bar.  Power will come from pod drives with 600 and 715hp choices.

Project: Azimut 66 Flybridge

The first month of the new year will see plenty of new developments for Azimut Yachts. At the upcoming Düsseldorf Boat Show, scheduled for January 23 through 31 2016, the Italian yacht-manufacturing company will present the world premiere of the Azimut 66, a new example of the ability to innovate that has made the company a world leader.  The Azimut 66 is part of the Flybridge Collection, the most classic of Azimut’s collections, and the one which has seen the most important renewal of its stylistic and technical content. The process of renewal of the range began with the Azimut 80 in 2013, to continue with the Azimut 50 in 2014 and the recent Azimut 72, unveiled in September. And so the team of Azimut technicians has been faced with the difficult task of producing a new twenty meter motor yacht combining all the innovations appearing in the most recent models in the new collection, a process that has transformed the 66 into a true icon representing the entire range.  Visitors to the Düsseldorf Boat Show will be the first to admire the harmonious lines of the Azimut 66, designed by Stefano Righini, with the hallmark shark’s fin shaped side window, the particularly spacious elongated flybridge and the prow area transformed into an exclusive lounge. The carbon fiber superstructure makes the vessel considerably lighter and increases its interior volume. Designer Carlo Galeazzi, who worked on the interiors of the Azimut 66 with the shipyard’s styling office, not only came up with the usual refined decor but focused his attention on the need to optimize use of space, obtaining extra storage space in the already ample interior volumes to make an even more convenient vessel.   Indeed if compared to the 64, the 66 will offer a four cabin layout, along with one of the most versatile split level saloons in the category, and one of the largest flybridge in the twenty meter size.  Handling wise the 66 will feature a hull designed by Studo Plana, which give a performance of 31 knots and 27 cruise with twin 1150hp Cat engines.

Project: Heesen 50m Project Nova

In a world full of noise, Heesen believes silence is the ultimate luxury so here comes the new fifty meter project Nova. The exterior of Nova is designed by Omega Architects and it’s a first for Heesen with hybrid propulsion. In this case hybrid means that the yacht can draw on two sources of power for propulsion: diesel mechanical and diesel electrical. Either or both sources can be used at the same time. No batteries. This provides more flexible power management, which means better efficiency, less noise and less vibration. Up to 9 knots Nova will be as silent as when at anchor.  Nova-Hybrid is not only fuel efficient, but also great care in living space optimization designed in this case by Sinot. Featuring Heesen patented Fast Displacement hull the fifty meter project Nova will offer a 16 knots top speed, while a cruise of 12 knots gives a range of 3750 nautical miles.

New Model: Codecasa 50 Vintage C121

In the wave of the great success met by the first two units of 42 meters belonging to the Vintage Series, namely Hull F73 built in 2011 and F75 built in 2013, Codecasa Shipyards delivered in July, 2015 the 50 meters version.  The new Codecasa 50 Vintage Series, Hull C121, named Gazella was also designed by in house by family owned Viareggio shipyard technical staff in co-operation with trusted designers, with the aim of finding the perfect balance between past and present.  For the first 50 meters of the Vintage Series, the Owner has chosen the white color for both hull and superstructure. The plain and traditional exterior lines combine with classic and rich interiors. As soon as you go in, your eyes is caught by the richness of the interiors, which are made of mahogany wood and mahogany plume, with flooring's that feature precious marbles and onyx or carpet with elegant decorations, depending on the areas. The main salon is made of a large conversation area with two big sofas, four armchairs in the red and gold tones, placed around a coffee table of mahogany wood with gilded details.  The whole area of the Salon is well lit by the natural light coming from the big windows and it is further increased by the continuation with the dining room, from which it is divided by a low partition cabinet. The dining room, with its rectangular table with the top of mahogany wood richly decorated with maple wood inlays, is able to sit up to twelve people.  From the dining room, we go into the pantry on the port-side and hence to the galley, equipped with last-generation appliances, distributed between the cabinets and the practical center island. A dumb-waiter directly connects the main deck pantry with the bridge pantry. Going forward on the starboard side, from the dining room we reach the main hallway, the flooring of which feature precious types of marble inlays. Hence begins the main staircase with its elegant handrail of dark metal with gilded details and with the walls covered of a material combining golden-leaf and mother-of-pearl that connects the bridge to the guests area on the lower deck.  The elevator, for four people, connects all decks, from the lower up to the sun deck.  Going forward on the Main deck we reach the VIP Cabin, with ensuite bathroom, which is close to the Owner’s Suite, this latter with private office, large cabin, spacious walk-in closets and two bathrooms, covered of Honey Onyx and connected to each other through the shower, the walls of which are decorated with an elegant floral mosaic. In the Lower Deck there are four Cabins for the Guests, two double-bedded and two twin-bedded, each one of them obviously with its own bathroom. Below deck is also the Crew Area, made of four double cabins, the Chief Engineer’s cabin, the crew mess and the laundry, equipped with three washers and three dryers. From the Crew Area it is possible to reach the deck underneath, with the dry storage, built-in walking-in refrigerators and large cold rooms.  On the bridge there is the cozy sky-lounge, more intimate and less formal than the main deck salon, featuring a comfortable sitting area in front of a large TV, a breakfast table, a bar furniture. Here the main color is blue, chosen for the marble used for the coffee table and bar furniture tops as well as for the upholstering fabrics and the carpet decoration. The deck is completed by a day toilet, a pantry and the Captain’s cabin, this latter directly connected with the radio room and the wheelhouse, provided with modern navigation, search and communication equipment in order to offer the utmost safety to the Owner and his Guests. The exterior areas are comfortable on all decks. The pleasant relaxation area on the main deck aft cockpit alternates with the alfresco dining area on the aft bridge, which is able to sit twelve people. Finally the sun deck has a large sunbathing area, a sitting, a bar corner and then a large Jacuzzi bathtub, for five/six people, provided with comfortable sunbathing mattresses.  Throughout the yacht, the best care has been devoted to the selection of the equipment for the satellite reception, Internet and entertainment systems.  Provided with a Castoldi 21’ jet tender and with Zero Speed stabilizers, Codecasa hull C121 thanks to its twin Cats 2365hp is able to reach a top speed of seventeen knots at light displacement and a range of about five thousand nautical miles at 12 knots speed.

Best of 2015

A new year always means a fresh start, with a will to do better then the previous one.  2016 and the years ahead will be an interesting one for the boating industry with the planning boat seeing growing competition in the sub twenty meter sizes from the semi-displacement-planning hull shape. Is fifteen knots really the new cruise speed to be? In a World going always faster I am not so sure.  But for the people who have a lot of time in there hands, it is an interesting option.

PowerYacht's best of 2015 is the Riva 88 Florida. The dominion of hard-top sport yachts upwards of fifteen meters in the last ten to fifteen years, has shown its shortcomings.  The main one is that boating is first and foremost life in the open air, and the three part hard-top reduces this a lot.  Ferretti Group and Riva resolve this with the 88 Florida, thanks to a clever patented hard-top called the Convertible Top which becomes fully open and hides in the foredeck.  Italian invention does it again.

The others.

Cruisers 60 Cantius. Euro looks have invaded North America, and this shows with Cruisers new largest ever eighteen meter flagship designed by Facheris, who brings a modern design language for this 1956 founded company.

Galeon 500 Fly. Flip open side bulkheads are not new, with an Italian builder presenting the technology back in 2008.  Polish Galeon introduces it first time on a flybridge yacht, and the affect is a fresh take how to expand social areas from inside to outside.

Raffaelli 42 Typhoon Sportage. Raffaelli has been quiet in recent years, now returning with this innovative new thirteen meter which tries to give the best of flybridge and hard-top boats.  In the seventies we had some similar designs which turned out to be successful.  Will it do the same today?

Sabre 66 Dirigo. At 22 meters Sabre's new flagship is the largest fully American built and designed down east inspired lobster yacht.  Considering the genre is American it was time to do it.

Sanlorenzo SL86. Replacing your top selling model after twenty years of production and success is not easy.  Sanlorenzo does this courtesy of Mauro Micheli, who is on duty for a smaller similar 76.  Has the Sanlorenzo overhaul started?

Sunseeker 57 Predator. Sunseeker catch with the Italian competition and present a fully enclosed hard top sport yacht with a patio door that fully opens and disappears in the floor.  This is Sunseeker hitting a sweet spot of comfort inside and outside with sporty lines in seventeen meters.

Tiara Q44. One of Americas favourite names does it again, turning the walkaround concept into a hard top sport cruiser full of versatility.  This is an all season cabin, day, and fishing cruising boat in one which Tiara calls the Adventure Yacht.

Wider 150. The third model from Tilli Antonelli Wider goes 34 meters bigger.  But forget the size, as this new flagship is all about using diesel electric propulsion to new affect, including which is a forward located engine room. *

Sweet sixteen. Ferretti 550. Ferretti returns with a new entry level sixteen meter of length flybridge motor yacht model.  For a year or two the famous Italian name abandoned sub eighteen meter sizes, in a strange act of product placement, especially when you think that among its all time best sellers two have been in this sixteen meter size.

PowerYacht wishes to all its followers, friends, readers, and visitors a Healthy and Prosperous 2016 year.
