New Model: Columbus Atlantique 43m

Columbus are delighted to announce that, following its official delivery of Atlantique 43 M/Y Night Fury II has set sail. The first of three constructions belonging to the Atlantique line due for delivery this summer, steel and aluminium M/Y Night Fury II will be exhibited at the next Monaco Yacht Show 2024. With a volume of 462 GT, exterior and interior design are courtesy of Hot Lab studio and they depict the “Architecture for Voyagers” fundamentals: a balanced combination of stylistic, design and functional elements devoted to the full enjoyment of every single moment spent out at sea. The naval engineering was devised by Palumbo Superyachts in collaboration with the Hydro Tec studio. The sailing-yacht style stern of Atlantique 43m is perhaps its most distinctive feature. This area features a central swimming pool surrounded by a C-shape seat facing astern. The transom is very low on the water; with the choice for the aft section to lower to just 50cm above sea level, which combined with the addition of two lateral folding side wings enhances the feeling of direct contact with the sea. The lower deck is endowed with four double cabins; two VIP with private bathroom along the sides and two twins. The forward area of the lower deck is dedicated to the crew and it houses four double cabins, all with bathroom, the crew mess and the laundry. The captain cabin is next to the wheelhouse. The 5.5m tender is at the stern with a garage on the starboard side. The main deck forward has been arranged so as to house both the second tender (rescue boat) and two jet skis. Powered by two 1300hp Cat Acert engines, Columbus Atlantique 43 can reach a maximum speed of fifteen knots, with a cruise of fourteen, and a range up to 3400 nautical miles at twelve knots.

Exumas Night Storm Beaches an Azimut and Sea Ray Yacht

A night storm with wind speeds over forty knots which struck the Exumas, the Bahamas just after 23:30 hours of Thursday 27 June, beached a 25 meter Azimut super yacht, an eighteen meter Sea Ray yacht, a rib, and a couple of jet skis.  Video footage from the helm of a Lazzara super yacht shared on social media by its captain Pascal Gademer shows as two Sea Ray sport yachts pass forward, drifting and dragging anchor as the sudden announced storm creates mayhem in this partly protected bay at Staniel Cay.  Pascal's super yacht actually avoids these drifting yachts with engines and thrusters, as they pass very close by.  The Sea Ray sport yacht is reported to have sheared one of its pod drives and probably has some hull damage to account for.  The Azimut super yacht grounded in Little Farmers Bay further South.  No injuries to persons are being reported.
The Sea Ray yacht in the grounding is an L590 as produced from 2015 to 19.  Sea Ray introduced its L yacht series in 2014 with the L650 Fly, a Euro looking line up of yachts to compete with European exports but with US amenities.  Ultimately the L series offered five models from 55 to 65 foot with Sea Ray stopping the production in 2019.
While the grounded pictured Azimut is a Magellano 25 Metri, a model which debuted in 2020 to a design of Ken Freivokh, with naval architecture by Pierluigi Ausonio, and has so far been delivered in twenty units.

Project: Palm Beach PB85

Representing nearly three decades of innovative Palm Beach Motor Yachts design and construction, the PB85 is set to become the new flagship of the renowned global yacht brand.  Entering the Superyacht realm is a natural progression for Palm Beach Motor Yachts, the acclaimed builder established by ocean-racing champion and performance yacht builder, Mark Richards.  Since its founding in 1995, Palm Beach Motor Yachts has garnered international recognition and a devoted following among enthusiasts of technologically advanced, meticulously designed and built, high-performance motor yachts. They are becoming increasingly known for their impressive fuel efficiency and range, consuming less fuel than other yachts in their class.  The Palm Beach PB85 is designed to be available in three exterior versions; Sedan, Extended Flybridge as pictured above, and Skylounge choices.  The interior of the PB85 will offer an upper galley layout, with this getting more space in the Skylounge option as this version does not feature a main deck helm station.  Lower deck accommodation is for three double cabins forward, with two cabins for crew located at midships located in between the engine room and fuel tanks.  The Palm Beach PB85 is to be powered by twin Volvo 1000hp with IPS pod drives and or twin Man 1300hp on line shafts with top speeds up to 26 and 27 knots respectively.  As is usual for Palm Beach the PB85 is whisker light weighing at just 43 tons unloaded, and thanks to this able to give an impressive 700 nautical mile range at 21 knots with the Volvo set up.  Give or take this would be about 8% more with the shafts set up, which is still an impressive number.

New Model: Holterman X-78 Fly

Holterman has launched the second hull of its X-78 model, with this new unit being the Fly for flybridge version and set to go in the Mediterranean sea.  The first Holterman X-78 Fly was finalized ahead of delivery to a highly experienced owner, and is another addition to the groundbreaking Xtreme series line-up from Dutch shipyard Holterman. Drawing on the technical and construction prowess of Holterman, the X-78 Fly is designed by Bernd Weel, and features interiors by Kitty van der Kamp, and naval architecture by Sea Level and Diana. The owner was also integral part of the design and build with him input coming at every before and during construction stage.  With X-78 Fly, Holterman Xtreme series which launched to universal acclaim with the award-winning X-105 in 2022 is here to stay bringing ever a growing stable of thoroughbred luxury yachts and super yachts. Holterman’s philosophy in developing the X-78 Fly was simple but multi-faceted, take the X-78 Sport, a non-flybridge variant that was built for and delivered to an owner who wanted the best yacht he could get for cruising the confines of the Dutch canals, and elevate it literally to the next level with the addition of the perfect flybridge. The genius lay in the development of the X-78 Sport specifically to include a future Fly variant, using the same aluminum hull and superstructure, advanced engineering platform and lower and main deck layouts for efficiency but adding the Fly to create the ultimate boat for the Med and beyond.

New Model: Azimut Seadeck 6

When Azimut enters a genre or invents a new one it is always revolutionary!  So when the Seadeck line of eco-friendly and eco-conscious yachts was announced in early 2023 it looked from the beginning that the yachting sector was up for an innovative shake-down experience.  The Seadeck line is Azimut's most eco-friendly series to date which promises a 40% reduction of emissions in a year of usage, a huge result considering that the Italian yacht builder has been going eco-conscious since 2012 and the debut of its 55S model.  The 6 as all following Seadeck's are a mild or optional full hybrid planning sport yacht, which takes eco-friendly yachting into its next step in a long journey ahead.  But as usual for Azimut the criteria has to meet the purpose so designer Alberto Mancini was instructed to bring a new style yacht giving with a mix of exploration and sporty details which give best of use, while a new hull shape by NAMES which features a sharp entry promises reduced consumption at all speeds, and re-thinking of the construction and finishing materials used.  That is why the Azimut Seadeck 6 uses cork as replacement to teak for its deck, and carpets are made of re-purposed raw materials, with the same thing being done to 30% of the yachts skeleton. The Azimut Seadeck 6 debuted in mid-April first during the Milano Design Week 2024, with its official showing coming in end May at the always growing Venice boat show.  The first Seadeck 6 is fitted with the mild-hybrid zero emissions hotel mode, a 42 kwh lithium battery pack which will give up to eight hours of silent generator-free boating, with a full hybrid system of which the yacht is ready to embrace coming before the end of the year.  The Azimut Seadeck 6 is not yachting re-invented, more repurposed to be one of the most environmental clean and innovative yachts in the market today, which will entice buyers mostly with its expandable outdoor areas, like its drop down bulk heads which extend exterior spaces in a different way to yachts of similar size.  Look at it and then you see that it is actually a beach club from a forty meter super yacht, but fitted to a seventeen meters.

Motor Yacht Sinks in Fatih Ahirkapi Istanbul

A nineteen meter flybridge motor yacht titled Yazicilar under Turkish flag with eight persons onboard started sinking near Fatih Ahirkapi, in the district of Istanbul Turkey at 13:30 of Monday 24 June.  Seeing water coming in the captain of the motor yacht called for assistance, with the Turkish Coastal Safety General Directorate coming in and rescuing the eight persons onboard.  Following this the yacht was reported fully sinking, with the eight boaters given a medical check, of which all appeared to be in good heath.  The cause of the sinking was not reported.

Pershing Yacht Ends Beached in S'Espalmador

A seventeen meter Pershing sport yacht titled m/y Sophia 1 with two persons onboard ended beached in Pas de Trucadors on the islet of S'Espalmador to the North of Formentera, before 22:30 hours of Saturday 22 June.  Salvament Maritim received a call from third parties that a yacht had ended aground and sent a vessel plus a research helicopter and a notice to other boaters for search.  Ultimately the vessel Zinit finds the yacht and reports its position and that two persons are onboard and not injured.  Following this Salvament Maritim m/v Acrux comes to the scene and offers to take the boaters to Ibiza, which they refuse and say that they are waiting for a private company to come and tow the yacht to a boat yard for inspection and eventual repairs.  Speculation is suggesting that the Pershing yacht had to be traveling at a speed of 35 knots to end in this way on the sand dunes.  The damage is not reported but since the Pershing yacht is on surface drives it will be less to a shafts or pod driven yacht.
The Pershing in this beaching is the 54 model, as designed by Fulvio de Simoni and produced from 1995 to 2003 in over fifty units.  Today considered a classic the 54 is one of Pershing's most important models and was it's best seller up until 2007.   The 54 was available with both shafts and surface drives in its first four years production to then only be available with the later.  The Pershing 54 came out as a replacement to the first generation 52 and was replaced by the 56.

Super Yacht Accused of Starting Hydra Island Forest Fire

A fire works display allegedly launched from the 54 meter super yacht Persephoni I has caused a wild fire to the only Pine forest on Hydra Island, one of Greek's Saronic islands, thirty nautical miles South West to Athens on the night of Friday 21 June.  The blaze was controlled the following Saturday morning, in a difficult operation involving both air and sea fire fighting as the pine forest is not road accessible.  Following this fire the crew of Persehoni I were arrested by arson unit investigators on Sunday 22 June, while the yacht is currently held in custody.  The captain of a nearby yacht has testified that the blaze was started by fireworks originating from the alleged super yacht on Friday evening.
Super yacht Persephoni I is a 2012 Mariotti 54 meters super yacht as designed by Luca Dini.  Mariotti build only two 54 meters models, with the first unit launched in 2008.  Founded in 1928 and located in Genoa, Mariotti had in 2005 entered a partnership with Cantieri Navali di Lavagna Admiral for the building of steel super yachts above fifty meters in length.  This collaboration was ended in 2011 as Admiral was taken over by the Italian Sea Group.

The superyacht has four more VIP cabins on the lower deck, accommodating a total of twelve guests on board and nine crew, including the captain whose cabin is located next to the wheelhouse. Pershing Yacht Saved from Sinking Near Gaeta

A 23 meter Pershing sport yacht titled Miotus and under Italian flag was saved from sinking near Serapo, Gaeta, Italy on the late morning of Thursday twentieth June. The Pershing yacht had departed Gaeta yacht marina with seven persons onboard direction to the island of Ponza when four nautical miles offshore, water starting to come into the hull. Seeing this, the yachts captain called a mayday and then turned direction, and anchored the yacht in a scheduled beach near Sirio, with the Guardia Costiera coming to the rescue with two boats; one to retrieve the yachts passengers to safety and a second to assist the yacht. A specialized firm followed, rescuing the yacht and taking it to safety in Gaeta for investigation on this near sinking.
Miotus is a Pershing 76 as designed by Fulvio de Simoni and produced from 2002 till 2008.  Similar styled to the 88 flagship which debuted in 1999, the Pershing 76 came out as a replacement to the 73 and was replaced by the 80 model.

Yacht Sinks After Running Aground in Vilano Inlet

A seventeen meter down east inspired lobster yacht with two persons onboard, partly sank after it ended aground following water ingress in rough seas at Vilano Inlet, St. Johns County, Florida at about 15:15 of Wednesday nineteen June.  A St. Johns County Marine Rescue crew member noticed the yacht in distress, with the two persons onboard making a mayday call and then putting their life jackets.  At this stage the two persons ended in the water pulled into the seas by the rough conditions, with St. Johns County Fire Rescue rescuing them about two hundred meters away from the yacht position.  After this the boaters where taken to Vilano Boat Ramp but both declined further medical treatment.  A salvage operation to save the seventeen meter yacht is currently being organized.
The traditional yacht in this sinking is a Palm Beach Motor Yachts PB55 model as designed by Mike Richards and debuting in 2012 and still in production today.  Founded in 1995 Palm Beach Motor Yachts has grown in popularity in the last fifteen years, for its combination of high tech construction and ageless classic inspired looks with modern amenities.

New Model: Fairline Targa 40

Fairline finally return to its bread and butter size with this new second generation Targa 40.  It would be interesting to know why Fairline took eight years to return in this size segment, which has been its biggest success since when Sam Newington managed to make his brand a household name.  For making up to the long wait Fairline decided to be bold, and so the Targa 40 comes with the interesting option of a drop down bulk head serving the aft cockpit deck to starboard, something a bit unedited on a eleven meter cabin focused sport cruiser which gives as much space inside as it does outside.  Fair to say drop down bulkheads are not new in 2024, Italian yard CNM presented them on its 50 Mediterraneo model back in 2008, and in the last decade all the new generation of sporty more day then overnight cruisers which have replaced the classic cabin sport cruiser in the core sun focused markets have them, they are though a new thing for a boat of this exact type and size even in 2024.  Thanks to the optional drop down starboard side bulk head the Targa 40 fills two shoes which other similar hard-top sport cruisers do not, that of extending its cockpit space and that of having a beach club in just eleven meters.  The Targa 40 impresses in other areas beside the drop-down balcony as well, the garage space under the port-side sun-pad which can accommodate a tender up to 2.3 meters is unthinkable when one looks at it from outside for example.  Other nice features are the flash single level cockpit deck, and the exterior mini-galley with wet-bar, and a lower deck accommodation a cabin sport cruiser of twelve meters offers; two cabins with four berths, plus a convertible C-shaped dinette with galley opposite.  Is the Fairline Targa 40 perfect?  She is nearly there, although twenty centimeters more to the bathing platform would have got her closer to full marks.

Classic Bertram Sinks in Carrabelle Florida

A classic ten meter Bertram convertible sank off the coast of Carrabelle, to the North West of the Florida state on the afternoon of Tuesday eighteen June.  The Bertram was cruising offshore when it called a may day, with Sea Tow captain Dennis Douglas responding to the call, and rescuing the boaters.  Although when Sea Tow arrived on site, it was too late for the classic Bertram as it was already more then half sunk, and to risky to try to make a salvage, with the sportfish cruiser ultimately ending a wreck in the depths of the ocean.
The Bertram in this sinking is the 35 Mk.II, as designed by Dave Napier and produced from 1981 to 1986.  The Bertram 35 Mk.ii came out as a replacement to the first generation 35 which was designed by Ray Hunt, recognizable by very subtle details and was replaced by the 37 Convertible.

Two Teens Killed in Jet-Ski Sea Ray Boat Collision

Two teenage girls riding a jet-ski were killed when they crashed with a seven meter Sea Ray sport cruiser on Lake Marie in Antioch on about 17:15 of Tuesday eighteen June.  According to reports the two girls aged thirteen and sixteen years old were traveling in a northerly direction near the channel to Grass Lake, just north of the Elime Road Peninsula when they collided with a Sea Ray sport Cruiser operated by a 55-year-old man of Antioch and holding three more guests onboard, which was traveling westbound.  Both teens were reported of wearing life vests, and were knocked unconscious and thrown into the water with the impact from the collision.  The passengers aboard the sport cruiser collected the girls after the collision and were given aid then transported to shore and taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, with both pronounced deceased after arriving.  The crash is now under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit and Illinois Conservation Police.

Over Capacity Charter Ends Aground in Virginia Beach

A fourteen meter charter boat was the cause of mayhem in Virginia Beach, Vancouver on Sunday the sixteen of June.  First this boat was filmed in The Narrows being over capacity and listing to one side and looking in difficulty to manovre, then the same boat is reported to have run aground in Broad Bay and possibly damaging the oyster beds in the grounding.  The coast guard later determined that the flybridge cruiser was running an over capacity charter, and also did not cover enough safeties for all the thirty guests onboard.  No one was injured in this accident with Virginia Marine Resource Commission and Virginia Marine Police investigating to see if oyster beds were damaged during the weekend incident.

Project: Duchy 60

Cockwells present the project for the 60 model, the largest leisure boat in the down East inspired looking Duchy Motor Launches brand. Designed by Andrew Wolstenholme the Duchy 60 standard layout provides a comfortable accommodation for five guests in three cabins, with an owners stateroom forward, a guest cabin with twin berths to port side, and a single berth cabin to aft. A galley is located in the lower deck, while a relaxing, sofa dinette is on the main deck. Still it is important to note that the Duchy 60 offers an interior layout that can be tailored to chime precisely with clients needs. The Duchy 60 is to feature a semi-displacement hull shape which powered by rather modest twin 500hp diesel engines on shaft will offer top speed up to 24 knots.
