New Launch: Columbus Custom 50M

Columbus Yachts, a brand of Palumbo Superyachts, is pleased to announce the launch of m/y Anjelif, a new 50-metre full custom built entirely in aluminium.  This 50m Columbus Custom is the seventh super yacht launched by Columbus, tailor made to the needs of her experienced owner and packed with technical and stylistic innovations like the hybrid, diesel-electric propulsion. Furthermore, this superyacht makes use of two distinct and highly advanced technologies: one through the application of cold plasma for the sanitization of air coming from outside and used both for ventilation and air conditioning; the other one dedicated to room sanitization at pre-set intervals to ensure daily safety. The first guarantees the efficient elimination of airborne viruses and bacteria in the incoming airstream, while the second automates the sanitization of each internal area of the boat. Exteriors and interiors are by Marco Casali of Too-Design while the engineering is by the Palumbo Superyachts team. The interior design has been rigorously developed with natural and ecological materials and includes a gym on the main deck, a sauna, massage room. The swimming pool in the transom with exposed teak finish is of very scenic effect, while a second Jacuzzi is located on the top deck. At the bow, we find a functional zone complete with sunbathing area and a touch & go helicopter docking platform which can be eventually transformed into an open-air cinema. The layout includes 4 decks, with the master cabin positioned on the main deck forward and 4 double cabins below deck. The crew is made up of eleven members accommodated in seven cabins. Columbus Custom 50m has a 499 GT gross tonnage and can reach a maximum speed of 20 knots with a range of 3000 nautical miles at 12 knots. The diesel engine system includes twin MTU 2636hp each, while twin 175 kW Kohler generators make up for the electric one. The hybrid system, developed thanks to the consolidated experience of Palumbo Superyachts in this specific field, provides for the possibility of using two electric motors in diesel-electric propulsion with a power of 100 kW each for a speed of approximately 9 knots. The electric motors coupled with the propulsion motors, can in turn be used as shaft generators, allowing navigation with the gen-sets off. A latest generation lithium battery pack is used as electricity back-up, avoiding any possibility of blackout during the transient phases. Columbus Custom 50m will have its world premiere at the Monaco Yacht Show 2023.

Project: Columbus Crossover 42

The Columbus Crossover 42 project comes from a design by Sergio Cutolo of the firm Hydro Tec for exterior and naval architecture, and interior by Francesco Guida.  The Crossover 42 stems from the need of housing large tenders on a rather compact forty meter super yacht, and at the same time endorsing the lifestyle that equates to a yacht on which to concentrate all the holiday activities. The 42 is the smallest model in the Columbus’s Crossover modern explorer work boat inspired super yacht series which features two other 51 and 57 meter projects. All guest suites and entertainment areas are located forward, leaving the aft section free for an up a tender up to eight meters in length and 2.5 tons in weight and other large water toys. When cleared and with bulwarks folded down, guests can hang out in the open-plan beach club with pool and unobstructed view, as an alternative to enjoying the sundeck and upper deck.  The Columbus Crossover 42 overs five guest cabins which includes a master stateroom on the forward part of the main deck, and four s suite on the lower deck.  Crew accommodation is for seven in four cabins located forward of the lower deck.  Powered by twin Cat engines with a full displacement hull the Crossover 42 reaches speeds up to fourteen knots, with a cruise of twelve, and long range capability up to four thousand nautical miles at ten knots.  The first Crossover 42 has started construction the past May 2022 in Savona and is set to launch in Spring 2024.

New Model: Columbus Sport 50

Columbus Yachts, brand of Palumbo Superyachts, launched and completed the first sea trials of the new 50-metre Sport M/Y K2 at the Ancona shipyard.  Born in 2011 with its award-winning 40-metre models, the Columbus Sport line confirms its success.  Featuring a vertical bow and sleek lines, this project has broken the mold of the time and has become an icon of sportiness and elegance.  The fleet is now enriched with a new 50-metre model which encompasses the distinctive elements of this design and combines new aesthetic features to an engineering development of the hull which in navigation guarantees a high level of comfort even in rough sea conditions. Columbus Sport 50 stems from the naval engineering of Palumbo Superyachts in collaboration with Hydro Tec. The external lines and the interior design are penned by Luca Dini.  Characterized by several unprecedented solutions designed at the owner’s request, who is on his third project with Palumbo Superyachts, Columbus 50 Sport  accommodates eleven guests in five comfortable cabins assisted by eleven crew members housed in seven cabins. The aluminium hull and superstructure together with a gross tonnage of 499 are definitely one of the strength points of this vessel that, combined with a maximum draft of 2.2 m, make her a one-of-a-kind yacht on the market capable of sailing in shallow waters.  Powered by two 2600hp MTU engines, Sport 50 reaches a top speed of 21 knots, a cruising speed of seventeen with a long range for transoceanic passages.  Performance analysis at the lowest speeds reported very interesting results, also considering the keel structure, with a consumption of seventy litres per hour at ten knots.  From a technical perspective, another carefully-considered aspect was noise and vibration reduction: during the sea trials just carried out, Columbus 50 Sport achieved extremely low noise levels in the guest cabins. This is particularly remarkable as they were obtained at 85% of maximum engine power, at a speed slightly above 20 knots.  Columbus Sport 50 is scheduled to make her official debut at the upcoming Monaco Yacht Show in September.

This can be seen in the vertical bow, a distinctive feature that this model itself has helped make an iconic and sought-after feature on today’s yachts.  The exterior design expresses dynamism while maintaining well-balanced proportions, conveying an original style without being over-the-top and ensuring that its aesthetic will never go out of fashion. The pronounced edges and facets give the Columbus S 50 sleek lines, as well as making it easier to improve the layout of the interior spaces. Suffice to say that the bow area, for example, can comfortably accommodate the entire crew.  The owner’s desire to enjoy as much natural light as possible in the interiors has been fulfilled by the use of extensive glazed surfaces on all decks and particularly on either side of the main deck, where the outer gunwale is designed in such a way as to enjoy a complete view of the sea, even when sitting on the sofas in the lounge.  But the tailor-made technical solutions requested by the owner are the truly distinctive feature of Columbus S 50. The customer, who has a longstanding friendship with Giuseppe Palumbo based on mutual esteem, is perfectly aligned with the corporate approach adopted by the Group, which translates the engineering expertise, experience and construction capabilities typically found in the shipping industry, for application in the pleasure yachting sector.  Construction of the new 50 meters Columbus S superyacht will soon start in the Italian facilities based in Ancona, and the delivery to her owner is scheduled in Summer 2020.

The technical launch of this beautiful Superyacht was attended by local Authorities, shipyard workers, national and international brokers and specialist press. Late motive is the phrasing of the bright ceiling colours, intersected by darker wood panels, and the brown of the Italian walnut floors, with inserts of calacatta gold marble.  Palumbo Columbus 177 offers an interior accommodation with six guest cabins sleeping twelve, which include a full beam owner’s stateroom with balcony and VIP suite on the bridge deck.
