A sixteen meter Apreamare traditional yacht with two persons onboard ended aground at the entrance of Fiumara Grande, Fiumicino to the outskirts of Rome on the early afternoon hours of Tuesday 21 November.  The Fiumicino Harbour Master and Civil Protection was immediately on the scene, saving the two boaters, who had no injuries.  The Apreamare yacht was coming from Sardinia direction to Fiumicino, when at the end of its trip had trouble with one engine, making manoeuvring in the Fiumara entrance difficult and ultimately ended aground.  An operation to remove the yacht is scheduled for tomorrow morning.
The Apreamare in this grounding is the 16 as designed by Tommaso Spadolini with naval architecture by Umberto Tagliavini and produced from 2002 till 2005.  The Apreamare 16 was evolved and replaced into the 54 model with main deck patio door, and a renewed stern bathing platform design.

New Model: Fabbrica Italiana Motoscafi 440 Regina

Fabbrica Italiana Motoscafi also known with the acronym of FIM has debuted in the fall of 2023 its new 440 Regina model.  A sport cruiser of over eleven meters in length the 440 Regina fills the gap in between the 340 Regina which debuted the brand in 2021 and the 2022 introduced 470 flagship model.  The FIM 440 Regina like the smaller 340 and bigger 470 models is a surprise in the market presenting itself as a hybrid between a walk around day and cabin sport cruiser.  For the 440 Regina Fabbrica Italiana Motoscafi changes design duties bringing in Alessandro Lottici, a young designer from Brescia which debuted in 2018 with his aLot studio.  For the 440 Regina, Lottici brings a soft curved exterior but keeping inline with the smaller and bigger FiM models family design language. The interior is also design furnished by LDI a company from Rome, which presents a two plus two layout, with a forward U-shaped saloon which converts to a double berth, galley, head, and a spacious full beam midships master stateroom. In the exterior the FiM 440 Regina shines its best qualities in an all walk walkaround fore to aft deck, giving relaxing and lounging space features in all areas, with a large central wet-bar behind the centre console served by a central dinette further aft.  The FIM 420 Regina is also available with opening bulwarks which increase the space in the sun-pad and bathing platform area by about 40%. The FIM 440 Regina is powered by Volvo 410hp as standard with optional 440hp and or triple 400hp Mercury outboard petrol gas options also available.

Fairline Squadron Burns Down in Swansea Marina

A thirteen meter Fairline flybridge cruiser went ablaze while berthed at Swansea Marina, to the Southwest of Wales at 17:52 hours of Sunday nineteen November.  Five fire fighting crews from Swansea Central, Swansea West, Morriston, Gorseinon and Llanelli responded to the fire, taking about an hour to control and two hours to extinguish.  No one was injured in the fire, with the causes of the blaze reported as accidental, with the flybridge cruiser ending half sank, and her flybridge deck burned out.  A fire involving two small boats happened in the same Marina on the end of May of this year.
The Fairline in this fire is a 43 Squadron as designed by Bernard Olesinski and produced from 1994 to 1997.  The 43 was the Squadron range entry model, Fairline's flagship flybridge line which in that time arrived up to 65 foot.  The Squadron 43 came as a replacement to the Fairline 43 and was replaced by the Phantom 46.

Unattended Flybridge Boat Ends Aground Near Alghero

An unattended flybridge boat of ten meters in length ended aground in between the waters of Bosa and Alghero to the West of Sardinia on Sunday nineteen November.  The boat was first reported by the Guardia Costiera, during a random patrol on Sunday afternoon, who then called assistance to the Vigili dell Fuoco, who intervened with a helicopter, in order to drop two specialized divers in the area.  Upon arriving on the boat, and following an inspection onboard the two divers found it to be unattended.  The Guardia Costiera is now looking to trace the ownership of the flybridge boat.
This abandoned grounded boat is a Rodman 1040 as released in the mid noughties.  The Rodman 1040 Adv is part of the fisherman cruiser line of boats of the Spanish boat builder. The 1040 Adv came out as an evolution of the 1040 with a different stern layout, with the model replaced by the 1090 Evolution Flybridge.

Custom Line New Web Site

Custom Line presents its new web site.  Custom Line was founded in 1996 by Carlo Moschini, Ottavio Caschino, with Norberto and Alessandro Ferretti joining some months later.  With the joining of the Ferretti brothers, Custom Line becomes the big 25 meters plus super yacht brand of Ferretti, and sets the first stage of the Ferretti Group creation.  In the beginning Ferretti Custom Line will build its first units at the Moschini shipyard in Fano, who in that time was also building yachts and super yachts under its own Siar Moschini brand from 21 to 43 meters, but this ends prematurely in 1999 when Azimut-Benetti Group buys the shipyard.  In around 2000 Custom Line will make a short production move at the Ferretti yard in Forli, and then sets up home at the Ancona Ferretti Group super yacht yard in 2002, where today it has five dedicated sheds in the 80,000 square-meters facility.  Custom Line shows its first three projects, the 94, 106, and 112 in the end of 1996, with the entry level 94 launching in 1998, and the 112 in 2001, and the 106 remaining as a concept.  From 1998 up till today Ferretti Custom Line has build over three hundred super yachts from 26 to 42 meters, which makes it one of the most successful super yacht builders in this size segment.  From 1996 till 2018 all Custom Line were designed by Giovanni Zuccon, Ferretti's main designer from 1990, with the second generation Navetta 33 and Navetta 42 being his last two designs.  From 2017 Francesco Paszkowski is given duty for the planning line with the 120 in 2017, with Filippo Salvetti given the Navetta series from the second generation 30 in 2020. Today Custom Line offers eight models, three in the Planning and five from the Navetta line which start from the Navetta 30 and go up to the alloy build Navetta 50 project. The Custom Line latest model is the 140 which debuted in 2022, with the Navetta 38 project set to launch in 2024. Project: Azimut Grande 30M

Finally we are presented with some details of the Grande 30M project which was announced during Azimut yearly Cannes Yachting Festival press conference.  A new super yacht designed by Alberto Mancini, the Grande 30M will sit in between the top selling 27M and 32M models, and brings style cues in an evolutionary way from the 2022 launched 26M and 36M as designed by the same designer.  For the new Grande 30M Alberto Mancini presents a sporty profiled raised pilot house design with a semi-wide body main deck, and a unique fully flush upper deck with a full walk-around fore to aft and for the full length of the yacht.  The Grande 30M will also feature latest designs from Azimut Grande line, from the Deck2Deck Terrace which expands the aft deck when raising the garage hatch, to the Infinity Skydeck, and the Glass House with fully disappearing full-height windows transforming into a veranda open on three sides, establishing a union between the large aft lounge and the Infinity Pool which overlooks the sea off the bow.  The Grande 30M will feature interiors as designed by M2atelier of Marco Bonelli and Marijana Radovic, who for the Azimut-Benetti Group will create fluid and informal spaces set in a sustainable minimalism. No details of the layout are presented as yet but seeing the rendering above, expect a huge forward fore-deck master stateroom, and a four guest cabin below. The Grande 30M is also part of Azimut Low Emission Yachts, which today includes over half of the brands models guaranteeing a twenty to thirty per cent reduction in consumption and Co2 emissions, thanks to the use of carbon fibre, dedicated hull design for this efficiency and the use of pod propulsion.

Itama Cruiser Saved from Sinking near Villasimius Sardinia

A fourteen meter Itama sport cruiser with one man onboard was saved from sinking near Geremias, Villasimius, to the South of Sardinia at 16:00 hours of Friday seventeen November.  Two Vigili dell Fuoco rib boats assisted the boater, who called a May Day as the boat was taking water, and heading into the rocks.  The Vigili dell Fuoco crew and divers from Selezione Navale blocked the water entry and emptied the boat with the help of two water pumps. After this the boat was towed to the harbour of Capitana, with the boater assisted by 118 emergency crew who gave him treatement as he arrived at the marina.  The cause of water entry was not reported.
The boat in this near sinking is an Itama 45 first version as designed by Mario Amati and produced from 1985 to 1988.   The Itama 45 was modified in a second series version in the fall 1988 and then produced till 1995 for a total of 36 units being build.

Tropical Storm-Force Winds Hits South Florida

Tropical storm-force winds hit South Florida and the Treasure Island on Thursday, sixteen November.  The winds started gusting at over fifty knots at around 04:00 hours of the morning with the storm calming down jest before 18:00 local time.  The storm caused a lot of damage in the area, toppled a lot of trees, destroyed tents, broke loose a few boats, and three hundred power cuts happening during the day.  In Jensen beach a catamaran ended slamming in a dock, while a ketch finished beached and aground and partly toppled into a seawall after it broke loose.  The picture above shows also a sport-boat-cruiser of about eleven meters in length which partly sank, and was hanging with the dock near Gateway Boulevard in Boynton beach.
The sport-power-boat-cruiser in the above sinking is a Formula 419 SR-1, as designed by  John Adams and produced from 1991 up to 1996.  The 419 SR-1 was Formula flagship when introduced in 1991, and with triple engines reached  speeds up to seventy knots.  The 419 was evolved and replaced by the Formula 419 FasTech, which was the boat with a three-step hull.

New Model: Lyman-Morse Monhegan 42

Lyman-Morse recently launched the semi-custom Monhegan 42, the latest yacht from the long-standing and successful relationship between Lyman-Morse and C. Raymond Hunt Associates. Riding on Hunt’s time-tested deep-V hull design, the Monhegan 42 showcases Lyman-Morse’s proven method of creating series-built semi-custom cruisers and yachts. This allows owners to customize each boat to suit their needs within the existing design; and allows Lyman-Morse to provide many of the attributes of a custom yacht with far less lead time. The Monhegan 42’s power comes from twin Cummins 550-horsepower with traditional line shaft propulsion in tunnels for top speed up to 32 knots and a cruising of 28 knots.  As with every Lyman-Morse build, the Monhegan 42 combines traditional style with cutting-edge construction technology and modern amenities, such as Scrimp resin-infusion in the hull, which maximizes strength and reduces weight, Humphrey Interceptor trim tabs, and Side Power bow and stern thrusters.  The helm station of this third Lyman-Morse is custom to the owner’s specific needs, with oversized display screens. Accommodation below deck features a galley and dinette/lounge area for meal preperation and dining, a head with saparate shower staill, and primary stateroom forward. This owner wanted to be able to lie down on the settee and relax, so the team at Lyman incorporated a custom footwell into the layout to allow for optimal relaxation. Interior joinery is made from South American mahogany, with teak and wenge accents. The Monhegan 42 exemplifies Lyman-Morse’s unparalleled ability to produce bespoke, semi-custom boats that deliver unrivaled performance, safety, and convenience at sea.

Project: Galeon 470 Skydeck

Galeon presents the 470 Skydeck project, set to debut in 2024.  Designed by Tony Castro this 470 Skydeck is a second generation 470 and will replace the original model which debuted in 2018.  This new version is based on the outgoing 470 Skydeck model, same hull and an evolution of design with the main difference coming from the larger hull windows.   Another subtle difference in the new 470 Skydeck comes in the layout of the sport-fly-bridge or as Galeon calls it, the Skydeck, which now features a helm station to port side with a C-shaped lounge on the other side versus the central helm of the outgoing 470.  For the remaining at least in the plans shown so far, the Galeon 470 Skydeck is identical to the previous first version; with an astern galley layout main deck, and three double cabins below of which is a full beam owners cabin.

New Model: Mazu 92 DS

Mazu has debuted its new 92 DS, which brings two important novelties in the Turkish builder line-up, that of a new 27 meter flagship, and the launch for its displacement series.  Build with a steel hull and composite super structure, to a design of Red Yacht Design of Cana Gokhan and Fatih Surekli from Istanbul, the 92 DS brings the unusual and original off squarish looks of Mazu's successful sports cruiser and yacht line into a displacement yacht, along with vertical bow and full height windows. One can say a lot of things about Mazu's 92 DS looks, bringing something original, and in competition with the likes of the WallyWhy and Princess's X-series  with the difference that she is build of steel.  Mazu also says its unusual looks give the volume of a yacht at least ten meters bigger.  The Mazu 92 DS offers accommodation for eight guests in four cabins with an owners stateroom located on the forward part of the main deck. Being build of steel the layout of the Mazu 92 DS can also be customized to reflect an owners need.  The Mazu 92 DS is powered by triple Volvo 800hp with IPS pods drives, the first steel hull build to offer this match up, with initial speeds giving top speeds up to eighteen knots.  Following its Cannes Yachting Festival debut the Mazu Displacement Series has started in a good start with two other 92 DS under construction, and the initial construction phase of the larger 112 DS starting at the start of 2024.

Project: Tankoa T560 Apache

Tankoa the Italian boutique super yacht yard has started construction on a 56-metre full-custom superyacht for a client who also knew no bounds. Developed by designer Alberto Mancini, the new Tankoa T560 Apache draws its inspiration from Mancini’s 76-metre T760 Apache design that was unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2021. It’s no small feat to take the features of a large yacht and translate them into a smaller package, but the Tankoa team and the Mancini studio relished the opportunity. The inception of the Tankoa T560's development took place initially at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in 2022 specifically for a young American couple, with active participation from Fraser Yachts USA Fort Lauderdale Office. The sale was successfully finalized in early August 2023 and Fraser Yachts will be also involved on the project management side during the construction.  Tankoa T560 Apache is to be build of steel with aluminium super structure, and will feature a large aft beach club which extends further in size with drop down bulkheads, and is also served by an informal dining/lounge space.  The owners stateroom is to be located on the upper deck, and will feature an office space, and a front terrace with a private personal fore-deck pool.

Projects: Princess S65, Princess V65

Princess present the project for a second generation S65, and a model set to replace the S66 produced from 2019.  The new Princess S65 gets the Pininfarina design treatment outside with a redesign of the upper structure, now cleaner and less busy with softer lines and the additional now fore to aft never ending hull windows.  The new Princess S65 is based on the 2023 outgoing 2019 launched S66, with an identical beam and a bit more length, and will feature the same astern galley four double cabins lower deck layout. Apart the looks the key differences in the S65 are in the aft deck, fore-deck sun-pad, and the sport-fly-bridge.  The aft deck will have a difference with the flybridge stair case now moved to port side from starboard, while to starboard side of the patio door will be an option to have a unit or an additional L-shaped settee looking aft. The fore deck sun-pad is to be split in two with a central passageway, with these offering a three movement pattern for a standard sun bathing layout, lounges with raised back, and a settee facing backwards to socialize with the forward C-shaped dinette.  The last of these changes is in the flybridge with the dinette located to starboard position and a wet-bar aft of the bridge.  The second generation Princess S65 just as the outgoing S66 is to be powered by twin Man 1400hp engines with line shaft propulsion for top speeds up to 38 knots.

The project for a new V65 will mark the fourth generation of this model, which is to be based and all but identical to the S65 but without a sport bridge.  So the V65 is the exact same as the S65, including the four double cabins and astern galley main deck layout, with the main difference that it does not feature a fly-sport bridge up top, this replaced by a larger half-roof size opening hard-top.  The V65 carries a certain history in Plymouth, with the first generation debuting in 2000 as the flagship and largest ever made Princess sport yacht in those times.  The first generation will sell very well for Princess, about fifty units in four years.  A new mark.2 which is a redesign of the first generation using the same hull but new super structure looks, fully enclosed hard-top with patio door, and a full beam owners stateroom will debut in 2005 produced till 2008.  The last third version is produced from 2018 till 2021 and features the same hull as this new version, which debuted with the S65 in 2015.

New Model: Windy 40 Camira RS

During the 2023 Fort Lauderdale boat show Windy debuted its new 40 Camira RS model, a replacement to the 39 Camira.  A twelve meter sporty cruiser, full of the Norwegian brands DNA, the Camira 40 RS comes with a full beam T-top which covers a spacious cockpit deck, which features a traditional Mediterrean layout; aft sun-pad, C-shaped dinette with opposite wet-bar, and helm station with passenger forward facing settee to port side.  Inside the Windy 40 Camira RS will feature an interior sleeping four in a two plus two cabin layout, with a V-shaped dinette which transforms to a double berth, and a double or optional twin berth at midships.  In between the berths is a galley and a shower head to starboard.  The layout is all open plan, although in the renderings the midships cabin is shown as being door bulkhead separate, so it is not understood if there is a choice to enclose this, or Windy changed the layout to open plan in production.  The Windy 40 Camira RS is powered by twin Volvo 400hp as standard, and or optional 440hp engines with stern drive propulsion for top speeds up to 44 knots.  A Windy 44 Camira SX is also available, this featuring twin 450hp or triple 300hp outboards, length overall of an extra one meter, and fuel tank increased by 300 litres to 1200.

Pardo Yachts New Web Site

Celebrating half a century in pleasure boat and yacht building Pardo presents its new web site.  Cantieri del Pardo was founded in 1973 by Giuseppe Guiliani in Forli concentrating in its beginnings for building quality racing sail yachts under the Grand Soleil brand.  This strategy proofs successful for Pardo, with its first model the Grand Soleil 34 designed by Finot becoming Mediterrean champion in 1974. This success is followed by the Grand Soleil 40 designed by Massimo Paperini who will win World and Europen IMS class C2 championship, and the 37 who wins the World, European, Italian, and Spanish titles twice in four years. In fifty years Cantieri dell Pardo has also characterized itself for the use of top designers; Alain Jezequel who will update all the line from 1983 till the end of that decade, German Frers who will do the same in the nineties, Bruce Farr designing the 1992 launched 64 Maxi One flagship, Doug Petterson, Jacep Jacopin, Massimo Paperini, Botin and Carkeek, Claudio Maletto, Marco Lostuzzi, and Matteo Polli.  Cantieri del Pardo will have new ownership from 2006 as it bought by Rhone Capital, who will in 2010 sell to the Bavaria Group, with this selling again in 2013 to the family Trevisan.  In 2018 the two Pardo managers Fabio Planamente and Gigi Servidati will take a majority stake in Pardo, with Wise Equity taking a sixty percent share in December 2020.  In the fall of 2023 Calzedonia Group buys Cantieri Navali dell Pardo.  Pardo has also in 2020 bought motor boat builder VanDutch yachts.  Cantieri del Pardo entered motor boating production twice in its story.  The first was with the Hudson and Ricci brand from 1989 to 96, and the two 40 and 54 models designed by Wynn and Walters for hull and Fred Hudson for super structure. The second motor boating production entry came with the Pardo Yachts in 2017 debuting with the Zuccheri designed 43 model, which sold over one hundred units in its first year of production.  Currently Pardo Yachts offers eight models in three ranges, which start from the P38 of the walk around line, and go up to the GT75 which is still in project stages and set to debut in 2024. Viking 92 Beaches in Delray Beach Following Black-Out

A 28 meter Viking super sportfish yacht titled m/y Pastime under US flag with three crew onboard ended beached in the East area of Delray Beach, Florida on about 15:00 hours of Friday third November.  The 28 meter sportfish yacht lost total electric and mechanical power while underway from Palm Beach to Fort Lauderdale, with the engines stopping to run and all electrical systems going in black out South of Boynton inlet, becoming an incapicated vessel, in three meter wave seas, and thirty knots Easterly winds.  As it stopped without power and already beached TowBoatU.S arrived on the scene trying to tow the yacht, with no success as Pastime snapped multiple lines in all the towing attempts, with over tens of tries in pulling the ninety tons behemoth failing both on Friday and Saturday.  Success for the towing arrived on Sunday fifth November, at about 15:15 as finally with a higher tide, and removal of fuel and liquids, Pastime was removed from Delray beach and towed for a three hour trip by TowBoatU.S to the Viking Yacht Service Center in Riviera Beach, Florida.  TowBoatU.S used twenty persons and five vessels to clear the Viking sportfish, in what was a delicate, difficult, and unusual operation.  No one was injured in the beaching and operation of towing, with Pastime reported to lose power because of a malfunction to the fire suppression system which switches all electrical and mechanical systems off.  According to photos from the Viking Service Center, Pastime had both rudders bent, minimum prop damage, and a scratch to its Vee bottom.  On ten November Viking Yachts released a press statement about this beaching incident, which to be fair has little to do about them also because this a seven year old yacht.
M/y Pastime is a 2016 Viking 92 Convertible, hull ten of the 92 and the first to launch with the open bridge layout.  Launched as the Enclosed Bridge in 2014, the 92 was Viking's flagship at launch, expanding its size by ten foot from the 2009 launched 82.  21 units of the 92 have been made till 2022, with the model replaced by the Viking 90 at the start of 2023.
Previously named m/y Sweet Tuna, this Viking 92 Convertible was sold in 2022 for under nine million US$, and renamed to Pastime and according to some reports was displayed just one week ago at the 2023 Fort Lauderdale boat show as a brokerage yacht.

Project: Benetti B.Yond Limited Edition 40 m

Celebrating 150 yeas, for 2023 Benetti is presenting a long list of projects, including of which is the B.Yond Limited Edition, a forty meter four deck explorer super yacht available to purchase for one year, starting the past July and will end on the same month in 2024.  The B.Yond Limited Edition, is based on the B.Yond 37M which debuted in 2022, with a hull extended by three meters in length, creating additional exterior spaces and volumes, especially in the upper deck.  Thanks to the extended hull the B.Yond Limited Edition will feature a stern which gets more generous dimensions and will include a sunbathing spot and a scenic infinity pool with a glass bottom.  The B.Yond Limited Edition will also be available in an exclusive elegant metallic colour called Vulcan Grey, embellished with a distinctive black shield, with a refined golden waterline gracing the yacht from stern to bow, with a gilded backlit Benetti logo adorning the sides of the Upper Deck.  The B.Yond Limited Edition just as the three meters smaller sister will offer five double guests cabins on the main deck, including an owners stateroom located forward.  The lower deck will feature five crew cabins for eight to ten crew including a large captains cabin located at midships.  In between the crew quarters is the large galley serving all the yacht and a C-shaped for the crew.  Also in the lower deck is a gym room.  Fair to advice the B.Yond Limited Edition’s layout, is supported by a host of pre-engineered solutions that are one of this series’ strengths, makes it possible to redefine the existing spaces and adapt them as alternative hospitality areas to suit the owner and guests’ specific needs.  The B.Yond Limited Edition also offers as an option the E-Mode Hybrid propulsion system, developed in partnership with Siemens Energy, which optimizes on-board energy consumption, making it the most sustainable in its segment. This innovative system offers four different operating modes, including Full Electric. This zero-emission cruising option allows the B.Yond Limited Edition to enter marine protected areas typically off-limits to motor yachts with diesel engines, offering a unique opportunity to explore ecologically sensitive areas while respecting the environment. Based on an average annual use of 1,000 hours, 400 underway and the rest at anchor fuel consumption and CO2 can be reduced by up to 24%, and NOx by a maximum of 85%.  The B.Yond Limited Edition has a range of 8,200 miles at nine knots in Eco Transfer mode, almost double the range of similarly sized explorer super yacht with the two generators off and only one internal combustion propulsion engine in operation.  As the smaller 37 meter the forty meter B.Yond Limited Edition is designed by Stefano Righini, what is the designers last project before leaving for the better World in 2021, with naval architecture for the full displacement hull by Pierluigi Ausonio.

Sunseeker has in the end of Summer 2023, launched its new Ocean 182 model, the enclosed bridge version developed on the Ocean 90 which debuted in 2021.  Sunseeker Ocean 182 is called for its gross tonnage volume rather then its length, and is a model designed around the North American market, were enclosed bridges are pretty popular for yachts above twenty meters in size.  Thanks to the enclosed bridge and the removal of the helm station the Ocean 182 expands the size of the entairtenment area on the main deck, freeing space for a double to size compared to the 90 relaxing sofa, with the forward area featuring a larger galley to port-side and dinning area for eight.  The helm station in the Ocean 182 is located in the enclosed bridge, which behind and fully climate controlled and protected from the environment is another large C-shaped saloon with entairtenment area opposite.  To aft of the bridge is the open part, which uses about a third of the upper deck area and features an L-shaped chaise lounge with wet-bar opposite.  For the lower deck the Sunseeker Ocean 182, features a four double cabins layout full beam but not midships located master stateroom, and a VIP suite with separate passage way forward.  Two crew cabins with a shared bathroom, and a lobby featuring a dinette and galley is located between the engine room and the guest cabins area.  The Sunseeker Ocean 182 is powered by twin Man engines from 1650 to 2000hp with top speeds up to 27 knots and a range of about 1100 nautical miles at twelve knots.

Fire Burns Five Boats in La Paz Mexico

A fire which broke out the early morning of second November burned down and sank five yachts from eleven to 32 meters at Marina Palmira, in La Paz, Mexico.  The fire is reported to have started on a seventeen meters Azimut yacht, which then moved to the other four burned out boats, and damaged at least five more.  Tim Prouty gave an account of the accident on the Latitude38 website, when he saw the first seventeen meters flybridge yacht starting to burn on its stern port side at about 03:00 hours early morning time.  With a soft breeze blowing starboard to port the fire eventually jumped to the next boat, then the other, until five boats totally burned down and sank, including of which, and last to get the fire a 32 meter Hatteras super yacht.  Fire fighting crew response came at about 03:30 but an hour later to this the fire had already engulfed the five boats and yacht which burned down and sank.
The yachts in this fire are an Azimut 58 Full as designed by Righini and produced from 1998 to 2002, the one that looks to have started the blaze, followed by what look to be two Riviera models, and then jumping to another Azimut 43S.  The Hatteras super yacht which burned was a 2019 100 RPH m/y Optimus and hull number five, which was also the last build of this Enrico Gobbi designed series which debuted in 2013.

Project: Bayliss 75 B31

In October 2022 Bayliss started the construction for a 75 custom sportfish yacht.  This 22 meter custom sportfish yacht is a sister-vessel in hull dimensions to the Spring 2022 launched B27, and the third 75 unit from the Carolina builder. Bayliss debuted a seventy plus feet yacht in Summer 2011, when it launched the 73 foot B14, at the time its flagship, which was followed by larger 80, 84, and 90 models in a five years time frame.  This Bayliss Boatworks 75 custom sportfishing yacht is designed to accommodate a large crew and maximize fishing efficiency. Unique for this project is the salon layout, featuring a centre island and a two-person dinette to starboard side. She is to feature walnut finished interiors with custom cabinetry throughout, and four double cabins three heads accommodation layout.  Like B27 this new Bayliss 75 is to be powered by twin MTU 2600hp, with the older sister vessel reaching speeds up to 44 knots with those engines.

Special is Optional

Fairline has launched its new Squadron 58 model, debuting at the 2023 Southampton boat show in September.  For Fairline the Squadron 58 name is a special one, with the 2002 to 08 first version selling 210 units in a production run lasting six years, making it the most sold model of the British builder flagship Squadron flybridge yacht range. On the contrary the second generation Squadron 58, which was an evolution of the 2008 launched 55 was not so successful, lasting in production less to two years and then evolving into the Squadron 60 with an over-sized bathing platform.

Looking sleek and stylish this new third generation Squadron 58 breaks new ground for Fairline, which for the first time is offering optional drop down balconies extending the size of the aft deck when opened, and an extendable in length to aft bathing platform.  The balconies are not a new feature for flybridge yachts of this size, with Galeon being the first to offer this on flybridge motor yachts with the 500 Fly in 2015, and today extended to most of the Polish builders range above thirteen meters.

The thing though with the third generation Squadron 58 special features is that they are all an option, three expensive options to tick.  If Fairline really wanted the new Squadron 58 features to stand out some of it needed to be standard, like the port side drop down bulk-head which brings the galley area outside, and the extended bathing platform aft.  Fairline's argument for not making the stand-out features as option, is that in standard form the Squadron 58 is competitive and similar priced to the other yachts in the segment.  But when you are the new kid and the latest arrival, do you want to level compete with those who have dominated this size in recent years.  Think again about Galeon, who give one drop down bulkhead as standard, and with this made huge inroads in recognition and sales in the European and North American market.

It is still early day to see the fortunes of the Squadron 58, but when it will come with the data with all the stand out features being optional, will Fairline really know if they are popular or not, cause of a cost rather then the customers not enjoying the feature.
