Two boats of about ten meters in length went ablaze and were wrecked by fire at Son Rise Marina, Sandusky, Lake Huron for a fire which started on 11:00 morning time of Thursday seven July 2022. The fire started on a ten meter Carver boat and then jumped to similar sized Regal sport cruiser. Fire Fighters from Sandusky and Huron fought the blaze form both water and land, taking an hour to control and turn off the fire. In addition to firefighters, personnel from Erie County Emergency Management Agency, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources arrived to assess the scene. Emergency Management Agency advised that little pollution came from the fire, and then notified the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and the National Response Center. A pollution protection boon was put around the wrecked vessels. No injuries were reported, with six other boats reporting fire and smoke damage. The cause of the fire is not reported.
The boats wrecked in this fire are a Regal 33 Express as produced since 2017, and a Formula 34 PC with the T-top option as available since 2009.
