Sanlorenzo Yacht Loses Control Near La Spezia, Italy

A 31 meter Sanlorenzo super yacht lost control and ended in a mooring dock wall at La Grazie, to the South East of La Spezia, Italy after 09:00 morning time of Monday 27 January.  The Sanlorenzo yacht was reportedly moving in the harbour going into to the Valdettaro shipyard, to be dry docked for some works, when its controls malfunctioned, with the yacht crossing the bay from North West to South East uncontrolled but making way through the water before hitting the dock wall.  In the collision the Sanlorenzo also reportedly sank a small speed boat, but no injuries are reported.
The Sanlorenzo in this collision is an SL104 as designed by Francesco Paszkowski and build from 2009 till 2015 in fifteen units.  The SL104 came out as a replacement to the SL100 and was replaced by the SL106, what is a soft evolution of the same model.

Project: Prestige F4.3

Prestige has during the Dusseldorf boat show surprise presented the new F4.3.  The Prestige F4.3 is based on the 420 and continues the dot point evolution of the F-line which debuted with the F4 now named F4.9 in 2023.  Design duties are again by all time Prestige designer Garroni with interiors by Valentina Militerno de Romedis.  The F4.3, like F4.9 and F5.7 looks at the width to not only add space but present it in a more home comfortable dynamic feature especially to what regards the main deck.  The distinct bold design feature of the F4.3 is what Prestige calls the OceanView galley which is not only astern, but takes the full beam of the interior main deck, with the entrance to this area offered from the two side doors rather then the usual aft door.  This is an interesting concept and one which has never been done before, which uses the hated or loved free space more efficiently but also gives an interesting three part ventilation. Other design improvements in the Prestige F4.3 are the flybridge which is also extended to the beam, while the stern bathing platform area is now also offered with a wet bar on waters edge.  Down below the Prestige F4.3 is the least changed to the 420 with this offering a two cabins layout with a choice of two heads, or one bathroom and a large walk-in wardrobe.  The Prestige F4.3 is to be powered by twin Volvo 440hp in V-drive line shaft for top speeds up to 31 knots and a cruise of 22.

Project: Sirena 118

Sirena Yachts takes a step forward in becoming an important player in super yachting with the presentation of its new 118 project, which was presented at the Monaco Yacht Show 2024.  A design of German Frers who is the designer of all the smaller Sirena models the 118 marks the birth of a new larger composite flagship, which follows on the success of the 88 model which has so far been delivered in twenty units since debuting in 2019.  It will be interesting to see if the 118 replaces Sirena 35M steel hulled project announced in 2022, although this is still offered in its website and the look of the two models is different, so considering all these differences the yachts do target a different client base.  Detailed design work for the decidedly contemporary 36m yacht is still under way, for what is to be a sub 300 gross tonnage super yacht.  The Sirena 118 will offer three decks of accommodation surmounted by a large sun deck, with an optional circular pool and lounging area at the bow and a vast beach club aft. Sirena’s trademark plumb bow makes a powerful statement and creates additional volume in an already generous hull. That makes space for a VIP and up to four guest cabins on the lower deck, with the owner’s stateroom dominating the forward section of the main deck. Uniquely, the owner’s stateroom can be spread across two decks, with a spiral staircase leading down to a huge relaxation area, complete with a fold-down swim platform close to the water. Social areas are no less impressive. An informal dining and lounging area fill the main deck aft, with floor to ceiling windows and a seamless transition to the deck outside. There’s more expansive dining and a wet bar on the upper deck, plus a more private exterior deck. The yacht is designed to operate with five crew and this number can be increased to seven thanks to the upper deck captain cabin. The inimitable German Frers has once again developed the yacht’s underwater profile, with lines and an exterior design drawn by Sirena’s in-house designers to transmit the brand’s true DNA. Cor D Rover is responsible for the timeless, relaxed feel to the interior of this first yacht, although owners can naturally customize the project as well. Built in fiberglass the Sirena 118 is destined to be an efficient performer with a fast displacement hull form which with the standard twin MAN 1550hp engines will give the super yacht a top speed of sixteen knots and an economical cruising speed of eleven knots. A more powerful twin 1700hp engine package will give a top speed of 21 knots.

Project: XL Marine 55 WA

Following the debut of the second generation XL Marine 45 in 2024, the Italian semi-custom classic looking sport yacht specialist looks forward and present the project for a new 55 WA.  The 55 WA is to be the new flagship for XL Marine, and is based on the hull lines of the 51, but longer and wider. Naval architect and designer Antonio di Mennato had his hands full on this one, considering that XL Marine deviates from its classic open sporty looks of his previous designs to those of a walk-around with easy use fore to aft deck space.  The XL Marine 55 WA is a bit of a novelty for the sense that it brings classic open looks into a walk-around, unlike the majority of the offers in the segment for a futuristic or modern-classic looks.  As any XL Marine the 55 WA is custom, and is available in endless lower deck options from a one cabin, to two or thee cabins versions, while an optional crew cabin is also available aft. Even the main deck is very optionable, this available with a central sun-pad and side corridors, or central corridor and two sun-pads aft.  But a lot of things can be changed in the XL 55 WA to make the boat fit to owners requirements.  The first hull which is to be finished for Summer 2025 is to feature a central corridor two sun-pads main deck, with the lower deck ordered in the one cabin and an open space layout.  The XL Marine 55 WA is to be powered by twin MAN 850hp and 1000hp engines with integrated U-drive line shaft propulsion, with the small engines giving 33 knots of top speed, and 37 knots from the large option.

Classic Chris Craft Saved from Fire in Villa Igiea Palermo

A classic eight meter cabin cruiser, had an onboard fire as it was berthed unattended, at the Villa Igiea marina, in Palermo, Sicily at about 08:30 morning time of Tuesday 21 January.  Marina personnel tended to the fire first, who towed the boat in a secure area out of harming other vessels, and controlled and turned off the blaze.  The marina personnel did such a good job that when the Fire fighting Vigili dell Fuoco squad arrived, they just had to secure the vessel.  The full operation took an hour as it was concluded by 09:30.  An investigation has been opened to determine the cause of the fire.
The boat in this sinking is a classic wooden build Chris Craft Catalina 28 as produced in the seventies with modified super structure, and cabin windows.
