New Launch: Feadship 42.50m Hull. 709

Feadship launches the 42.50 meter hull number 709 named Callisto. what the Dutch builder calls a textbook example of what is meant by the term ‘pure custom creation’. Built to a precise size to match her berth in the Mediterranean, Feadship #709 seamlessly balances the owners desire for a 42 meters 21-knot-fast superyacht with specific accommodation and outdoor entertainment wishes based on their rich experience at sea. The result is an exceptional one-off superyacht for repeat clients which sets a new precedent for bespoke luxury cruising below 500GT of volume.  The 42.50-metre Callisto was launched by the Feadship yard in Aalsmeer in the Netherlands at the start of April 2022, sixteen years after the delivery of the first Callisto hull number 671. This 65.20-metre Feadship is still used by the owners as a world cruiser and has been kept in premium condition ever since, including two refits at Feadship in 2014 and 2021. She was the first superyacht fitted with an ultra-advanced rudder-roll system and the owners set out to be equally innovative with their second Feadship called Callisto.

Fairline Yacht Destroyed by Fire in Peninsula

A 23 meter Fairline Yacht titled m/y Pegasus went ablaze at around 0300 hours of Friday morning fifteenth July in Gig Harbor, Peninsula, Washington.  Gig Harbor fire fighters were called at Harborview Drive to find the yacht well engulfed in flames, with the fast assistance from the water of West Pierce Fire and Rescue boat Endeavor able to contain the fire only to two boats, with a second neighbouring yacht to the starboard side also receiving burn damage. The Fairline yacht in the fire eventually sank, with the news being that no injuries where reported with both yachts being unattended at the time of the fire.
*Update June 2023*
The accident report issued by the National Transportation Safety Board found that the Fairline yacht m/y Pegasus burned down due to oily rags containing raw linseed oil stowed in an aft compartment being the cause of the fire.
The Fairline in this fire is a 2012 Squadron 78 Custom as designed by Bernard Olesinski and produced from 2007 till 2018 in 86 hulls.  The Squardron 78 Custom was an evolution of the Squadron 74 i arriving in 2007 with an extra large extended bathing platform aft, and launching the Yacht Division program involving all Fairline yachts upward of sixty foot.  Other improvements onward from 2012 was the change to square larger portholes, and the option of a hard-top.  A total of 115 Squadron 74 and 78 Custom in a fifteen year production run making it one of the most produced yachts in its size.
The other damaged yacht in this fire is an Ocean Alexander 64 Pilothouse as designed by Ed Monk and produced from 2001 till 2011.  The Ocean Alexander 64 Pilothouse was an extended cockpit version of the smaller 58 introduced in the same year, and was replaced by the 65 Pilothouse in 2011.

Project: Alia 60 meter

Turkish super yacht builder Alia presents a 60 meter project, reuniting the build team responsible for the 54 meter Al Waab with Dutch studio Vripack for the design and naval architecture, and GCC-based SF Yachts that will serve as project manager and owner’s representative throughout the construction. The owner is an experienced yachtsmen who has owned several yachts of various sizes over the past decade. For this latest project he requested an Ice Class standard with which to travel around the world with his family.  The owner’s brief has focused on a high performance, go-anywhere yacht that can accommodate a large family for long periods at a time. With an interior volume of 810 gross tons and generous exterior spaces, the family members will be able to enjoy extended cruises without having to return to shore for provisioning or refueling. With the addition of an Ice Class hull, the yacht will be able to go anywhere, anytime. In addition, close attention is being paid to the technical and logistical requirements to ensure the super yacht is as easy to operate and maintain for the crew as possible. Unusually, for example, the spacious galley and crew salon-dinette is on the main deck forward, where there is also a technical room with access to the side-loading tender garage. A popular social area on board that benefits from the high volume is the sprawling beach club on the lower deck that has a massage room, dive store and steam shower in addition to a gym and chill-out zone. As on Alia 54 meter, semi-transparent side panels create a wind-protected area and further connection to the water. The lower guest accommodation comprises no fewer than six guest suites: two cabins with twin single beds and four VIPs with double beds. An elevator connects all levels from the lower deck to the sun deck. The master stateroom is on the upper deck forward to enjoy the best views high above the water. This suite includes a very large walk-in wardrobe and a dedicated owner lounge overlooking a private foredeck. The new Alia 60-metre project is scheduled for delivery to her owner in 2024.

New Model: VanDutch 56

Van Dutch presents the new 56 an update of the 55 model, and current flagship of this now Italian, Cantiere dell Pardo owned and build sport cruiser and yacht builder, although a 75 is apparently in initial construction and project stages.  Subtle and important changes differentiate the 56 from the 55, the most important being that the 56 is now powered by Volvo IPS pod drives, versus the line shaft of the 55.  She is indeed the first VanDutch to be powered by IPS, and considering the use of Pardo of the Volvo pod drives we might see more of this on future VD models.   Other changes are the large bathing platform now keeping the same beam of the hull, and also having a design detail which brings her out of the hull.  Outside this is what makes you differentiate the 55 from the 56. On the accommodation front the Van Dutch 56 is near identical, with the lower deck offering a two cabins Sleep version and an open plan Lounge Version.  In both versions if you convert the dinette forward and the lounge aft the sleeping accommodation is for four persons.
