An eleven meter Itama classic cruiser titled m/y Toby ended aground in Ibiza on the early hours of Thursday 24 August. The classic cruiser was cruising with eleven persons onboard when apparently it made a course error and ended aground on the islet of Nigra Petita, and to the South of Ibiza and the North of S'Espalmador. The Itama was recovered on Monday 28th and taken to Eivissa Marina to a yard for the necessary and needed repairs. The Itama was reported to have sustained no hull breach, but had damage to shafts, propellers and P-brackets, and a scratch on the forward V-section of the hull.
The Itama in this grounding is a 1995 build 38, a design project of Mario Amati produced from 1979 up to 2001 in 176 units. The Itama 38 debuted in 1978 first as a wood build prototype, with production switched to fiberglass a couple years later. The Itama 38 was also the first boat with an under hull exhaust system presented in 1981, and was updated in 1985 as it received the long windscreen. The Itama 38 was replaced by the 40.
