Fabio Buzzi 1943 - 2019

Fabio Buzzi tragically left for the better World on September seventeenth 2019 at around 2100 hours in a Montecarlo Venice record breaking attempt which ended in tragedy in the final moments.  Records which Fabio Buzzi made so many times his in the years all over the World.  Fabio was a firm believer of application of his design theories with the real test being that of competition, which he was very much involved since 1960.  A unique trait of the genius that was Fabio Buzzi was not only involved in hull design but also in his expertise in diesel engines which he revolutionized in the eighties with Seatek, and also in that of propulsion with the Trimax surface-drives.  Buzzi was born in Lecco, Italy in 28 January 1943 to a family tied for centuries in building and design.  Buzzi started his involvement in powerboat racing in 1960, in 1971 he graduated from the Polytechnic of Turin in mechanical engineering with a thesis of self construct vessel, and in the same year FB Design is founded.  In 1974 he build his first powerboat a three pointed hydroplane called Mostro, first ever build boat with Kevlar 49 and with it will set at the time a World speed record for the S4 class at 95.39 knots. FB Design first specialization is high performance vessels, and later over the years enters the area of building specialized fast patrol craft for military and maritime control.  In 1986 with Carlo Bonomi, Fabio Buzzi founds SeaTek, specialized in high performance diesel engines.  Fabio Buzzi will collaborate over the years with many yards in designing hulls, most of which coming from his native country Italy.  His most known and famous boat building collaboration was with Milan fast sport cruiser and yacht builder Cigala and Bertinetti in the eighties, off which with them he will produce various legendary models most of which the famous Nitro 50, which was baptized as Cesa 1882 in the Class One offshore, and recently reborn as FPT red.  Cesa 1882 won two World Championships in 1988 and 89, and was unstoppable in racing when the sea got choppy and rough and the design over the years evolved into the Kerakoll, and then in the Metamarine/Tommy One, both taking top honors in the Enrdurance Powerboat World champions.  Other builders which saw Buzzi collaborate where Off Course, Tecnomar with the first TB series it launched in mid eighties, Novamarine for the high performance rib cruisers and yachts line, Alfamarine with the 43 and 50 models, and Otam which has the 80 HT and 2019 launched 85 GTS model based on his 2001 FB Design 80 Record hull.  That 80 Record which did the Montecarlo to London record.  Buzzi also collaborated with Sunseeker twice selling to the British company the design of the XS 2000 and the 2019 launched 38 Superhawk, this later being his recent 38 Stab with more refined finishes.  Fabio Buzzi has over the years conquered over 26 titles and records.  His designs have captured 52 World Offshore titles, 22 European Offshore titles, 27 Italian Championships, forty World speed records, and won seven Harmsworth Trophies.

New Model: Riva 14.92 mt Dolceriva

The Riva Dolceriva was the surprise novelty at this years 2019 Cannes boat show by the Ferretti Group.  This is day slash sport cruiser re-invented, with a unique sophisticated design born from the since early nineties Riva designers Officina Italiana Design, the studio of Mauro Micheli and Sergio Beretta.  That is over 25 years, of designing Riva, and Micheli and Berretta really have the pulse what the legendary brand and its unique sophistication mean.  The Dolceriva measures over fourteen meters and this is an open sport cruiser conceived to all intents and purposes to live life on board outside and inside in an absolute comfort, which aims to challenge the market with some unprecedented strengths. The exterior is spacious and an opening bathing platform doubles the beach area aft, while as center stage we have two sun-pads, an L-shaped dinette to port side, with a sofa and wet bar opposite, while forward we have a helm station and a companionway settee to port side.  Below is a lot of space for a single cabin forward with an L-shaped relaxing dinette and galley opposite. For the Dolveriva Micheli developed a new exterior pattern with a dividing space in between the shear line joining the hull window with the windscreen.  According to Ferretti Group we will see more of this in future Riva's and I really hope so as the design is actually unique giving a lot of equilibrium.  The Riva Dolveriva is powered by twin Volvo 800hp engines as standard with optional 1000hp units, and V-drive shaft line propulsion.

Out-News = Montecarlo Venice Record Attempt Ends in Tragedy

A record attempt between Monte Carlo and Venice ended in tragedy the evening of seventeenth September at about 2100, just some minutes away from concluding the feat.  The fast powerboat of around twenty meter in length finished against the San Nicoletto breakwater, in the locality of Lunata in the Venice Lagoon.  The San Nicoletto breakwater is a protection barrier for the Mose, a mobile gate aimed in protecting Venice when the high tide of the Northern Adriatic occurs.  News are reporting that the twenty meter fast powerboat crashed on the breakwater at a speed of eighty knots, and with the impact ended on the other side of the breakwater.  Departing from Montecarlo on Monday at 1100 hours, the record attempt at this stage was nearly completed with only minutes away from success.  The timing of the feat at this stage, and excluding the pit stop was at 18 hours thirty minutes. Three pilots; offshore legend Fabio Buzzi, Luca Nicolini, and the Dutch Eric Hoorn lost there lives.  In grievous condition also other popular offshore name Mario Invernizzi, who is reported as at today in stable conditions.
Fabio Buzzi was piloting most possibly one of his FB Sixty fast boats which had top speed capability up to seventy knots in full load condition.  We still do not have many details of the craft, Fabio Buzzi was using for this Montecarlo - Venice which made his many times, over the years.  Buzzi most recent record of the challenge came in twelfth July 2016 with a twin 1600hp MTU powered FB 60, who did the course in 22 hours 5 minutes and 42 seconds with an average speed of 52.3 knots.
A separate Fabio Buzzi memorial in our Legends section will go online tomorrow.

New Model: Absolute 47 Fly

Absolute new 47 Fly represents the getaway for the Italian brand, who since its inception in 2003 have seen its client and fan base featuring an interesting growth.  During the initial years of the brand the smallest model was the 25, and now today it is the 47, which is even larger then the flagship model of the beginnings which was the 45.  This new 47 Fly replaces the 45 and although part of the Flybridge range from Absolute is an interesting cross model, as it takes in looks and ideas a few features from the Navetta range.  The three double cabins two bathrooms lower deck layout for example is similar to that of the Navetta 48, with the cross-layout of the owners stateroom forward having a lot of similarities, with the extra beam and length of the later offering that bit of extra space.  The 48 Navetta here features a difference having the choice of a crew cabin aft.  The 47 Fly as all recent Absolute features an astern galley layout, while the flybridge looks to be one of the largest in its size.  The Absolute 47 Fly looks bigger then it is thanks to a lot of vertical use of space.  The Absolute 47 Fly is powered by Volvo's new 480hp with twin IPS pod drives propulsion.

Project: Beneteau Gran Turismo 32

With the project of the Gran Turismo 32, Beneteau and Italian designer Andreani rethink the nine meter sport cruiser with some clever touches of space usage.  This a sport cruiser made to please boaters looking for an innovative no compromise use of space layout with huge rethinking going into the outside space.  For example outside the Gran Turismo 32, feels a sport cruiser but when you start moving around it has the feel of a walk around with easy movement between the aft and fore deck, thanks to an asymmetrical layout, and an opening glass to starboard side which makes fore deck connection easy.  Below the Gran Turismo 32 feature a wal-nut finished interior sleeping four in a traditional two plus two layout; convertible dinette to V-berth forward, and a midships cabin.  Also it is important to point out to the spaciousness of the shower head located to starboard which features a separate shower cubicle.  But the surprises of the Beneteau Gran Turismo 32 does not stop here and beside the innovation of space usage outside, the success of this model might come from the fact that it is available in both inboards with stern drives, and or outboard powered engines.

Project: Dominator Ilumen 42m Tri Deck

Dominator apparently will announce the sale for the Ilumen 42m Tri Deck its new flagship in the upcoming Cannes 2019 boat show.  The Dominator Ilumen 42m Tri Deck continues the evolution of the now fully dedicated upwards of 24 meters super yacht builder, and come from a design of Alberto Mancini, the designer responsible for all the Ilumen range.  The Ilumen 42m Tri Deck is set to be delivered in 2020, and is a triple deck super yacht with a hard top sun deck, and fast semi displamcent hull with bulb.  The Ilumen range was introduced in 2014 and from a unique model in the line up, has since then taken over the Dominator range.  This is a bit of a pity as I think the Dominator range of high quality semi custom motor and super yachts from nineteen to 25 meters did have a special place in the market.

New Model: Vanquish VQ58 Hardtop

Vanquish has launched the new VQ58 Hardtop, a sport yacht that expresses the Dutch builder philosophy of custom made to order build sport yachts. Project: 3B Craft 31 HT

3B Craft from Italy presents the project for a 31 HT model.  The 31 HT shares hull with the 31 CC model, with a complete redesign to it's super structure transformed into a sport cruier with a three peace fully enclosed hard top design.  The 3B Craft 31 HT should perform extremely well, having a hull designed first for center console sport fisher, and second having a rare attribute in it's size of being propelled with line shafts.  This is a sport cruiser designed to cruise offshore, at an overall length of just over ten meters.  The 3B Craft 31 HT will feature an interior sleeping four in two cabins, forward owners cabin and a second cabin with two bunk berths.  Living will be all on the main deck, with C-shaped dinette and galley opposite layout.  The standard hard-top is open, though options exists to have the area closed with a patio door, or a vertical cover which gives the best of both worlds. Out-News = Super Yacht Nero Overturns in Genova

Super Yacht Nero has overturned during launch procedure the tenth September in mid afternoon in Genova, at the Amico and Co shipyard.  According to reports Nero overturned because of a support panel giving way during launch.  Four persons have been reported to be injured, while two have been rescued from the yacht itself.  Reports have later confirmed that the harbor master and fire service of the city have later on during the day attended the scene.
Measuring 90.1 meters Nero is build in steel by Corsair Yachts at China's Yantai Raffles shipyard, to a design from Neil Taylor, interior by Luxury Project, and Imt Marine Consultants responsible for naval architecture.  S/Y Nero features accommodation for twelve guests in six cabins, with twenty crew, and is powered by twin Cat 2333hp engines which allow for top speeds up to sixteen knots, and a cruise of fourteen, giving a range of 3800 nautical miles.   Nero was last refitted in 2016.

Project: Bluegame BGX 70

Bluegame presents the project for its new flagship the BGX70, to a design of Zuccon, and engineering by Luca Santella.  This is motor sport yachting re-defined in quite a few lines, cause the Bluegame BGX 70 is really different to everything else.  From a certain view point, especially the stern the BGX 70 takes ideas from modern explorer yachts, think Sanlorenzo SX, Arcadia, and ISA Extra.  But forward and its layout re-invent everything else.  The look of the main deck and pilot station have a tug boat feel, with living amenities inside which double outside both forward and aft.  In the interior of the main deck a central pilot station features an L-shaped dinette to aft with a galley opposite to starboard.  From the living area is the access to the cabin area, and or two VIP suites located in the forward part as in the three cabin Lower Deck A configuration.  In the layout A the other half of the lower deck accessed via the large aft deck from a patio door, is all dedicated to an owners mini apartment welcoming him in a spacious lounge room, and forward of this featuring a full midships owners stateroom.  In the layouts B and C, which feature two cabins, the lower deck is all connected and will feature a C-shaped lounger in between the cabins, or two opposite settees.  In both these layouts there is a day head for guests upon descending from the stairs.  The Bluegame BGX 70 is to be powered by standard Volvo 900hp or optional 1000hp engines with IPS pod drives.  The large engine option allow for top speeds up to thirty knots, with the standard giving 28 knots.

New Model: Greenline 45 Fly

Greenline will expand their range of eco-conscious motor yachts at the 2019 Cannes boat show with the introduction of the new 45 Fly. This all-new model is already proving a sales hit with 25 confirmed orders and production capacity doubling to two units per month. Delivery time is now early summer 2020.  Greenline 45 Fly is unique in its sector, both in terms of its impressive variety of propulsion options and the choice between three lower deck layout, which offer from two extremely luxurious ensuite cabins with walk-in wardrobes or a three-cabin variant with two spacious bathrooms.  Thanks to the fourth generation of Greenline’s game-changing diesel/electric/hybrid technology no boat of this size offers the quiet, emission-free sustainable boating experience that the 45 Fly does. The combination of solar panels, an in-line electric motor and inverter-charger mean that 230V AC is available at all times without the need to resort to a noisy generator.  A significant added benefit is totally silent, emission-free cruising for up to thirty nautical miles at five knots, perfect for inland navigation or approaching anchorages. The Greenline 45 Fly is equipped with domestic-standard appliances including a full-size fridge/freezer, induction hob, oven and AC sockets so there is no need to use adapters. Every Greenline model has AC power as standard and the technology works constantly to maintain a stable feed of domestic energy without needing to resort to shore power or a generator.  Volvo Penta and Yanmar engines are available and, as standard, the boat is fitted with a pair of 220hp shaft drive diesel engines but up to twin 370hp motors are available for a top speed of 25 knots. For those craving higher performance and the ease of joystick control, Volvo twin 380hp and or 440hp are available with IPS pod drives propulsion, the latter capable of 30 knots. The shaft drive and IPS hulls are built specifically for their drive-train ensuring optimum performance whichever propulsion choice is selected.  Renowned architects JandJ Design are responsible for the exterior styling and naval architecture. Though Greenline 45 Fly may have a sporty profile and beautiful lines, it is a practical and spacious cruising yacht, ideal for extended stays on the water with family and friends. Between the sheltered cockpit, comfortable fore-deck with its collapsible canopy for shade and deep, well-proportioned flybridge, guests will always be able to find their perfect corner to relax in. Options such as the transom galley with BBQ grill and sink, and the hi-lo bathing platform are practical additions, which also offer an invaluable connection to the water. Here there is also dedicated storage for water toys with the option of a hydraulic hatch to make access as easy as possible.  On board, a new partnership with lauded Italian superyacht designer Marco Casali of Too Design lends a stylish, sophisticated air to the interior filled with natural light thanks to the liberal use of glass in the superstructure.  Greenline Yachts signature aft-galley configuration links seamlessly with the cockpit and puts the cook in the heart of the action whether they’re serving outdoor areas or the expansive internal dinette.  The 45 Fly is brimming with outstanding features but the amidships master suite is the ace up its sleeve. Fitted with a king-size island bed and flooded with natural light by its large hull windows, this cabin feels as if it has come from the class above. The ensuite is big enough to incorporate a separate shower cubicle but it’s the walk-in dressing room that really sets it apart from the competition. Fitted with hanging storage, drawers, bright spotlights and a dressing table, this is a slice of luxury unheard of on a craft this size.  Incredibly, in the standard layout configuration guests in the forward VIP cabin have a similarly extravagant walk-in dressing area of their own, providing unrivalled levels of comfort for all on board.  The forward VIP has over two meters of headroom and bathes in natural light thanks to eye-level windows that align with cut-outs in the forward bulwarks for stunning views across the water. Classy round portholes at bed-level offer ventilation without the need to turn on the air-conditioning.  Alternative deck layouts sacrifice the main cabins walk-in dressing rooms in order to make space for either a small double bed or pair of bunk beds and a sizeable wardrobe; three such generous cabins are a rarity on a boat of just fourteen meters. Though up to six people can comfortably sleep aboard the 45 Fly, its safe, protected side decks and the door at the lower helm plus a bulwark gate mean it is very easy to handle as a couple or even single-handed if required.

Project: Azimut S8

The Alberto Mancini era in Azimut continues moving at a very fast pace, and here comes the S8 as a surprise project announced less to a week just before the Cannes boat show.  But this is not a project for 2020, the S8 will make its debut in the upcoming Cannes boat show, joining the other 2020 novelties; S10, Azimut 78 and Atlantis 45.  Brimming with charm, the S8 adopts the new style codes expressed by Mancini for the S sport yacht and super sport yacht collection, in which he interprets drive, modernity and sportiness in their most sophisticated and intriguing sense.  The S8 replaces the successful 77S launched in 2014, and features as latest Azimut model the exclusive combination of carbon tech with a triple Volvo IPS pod propulsion system, making her a sporty yacht equipped with leading-edge technology.  The extensive use of carbon; for flybridge, deck and platform, and the triple installation IPS propulsion system; optimized with a significant investment of resources and effort by Azimut Yachts Innovation Lab, bring with them a long series of undeniable benefits that make this model unique in the panorama of Sport Yachts, something which is the blue print of all the S range excluding the new thirty meter S10 flagship.  S8 stands out first and foremost for her unprecedented maneuverability, silence and significantly lower consumption than similar size super sport yachts. With a more compact engine room, the Azimut S8 layout is one of a kind: not only does the night area accommodate four cabins and four bathrooms, but there is also a big garage with room for two water toys; a standout feature for a super sport yacht of the size,  and a closed galley on an intermediate deck between the main and lower decks. This means that the main deck is dedicated entirely to indoor and outdoor lounge and dining areas. On this deck, designed for socializing, the same design approach has been used for both interiors and exteriors, resulting in a seamless sense of continuity.  The perfection of the layout is completed by crew quarters consisting of two cabins with access through a side door aft of the superstructure.  The interiors by Francesco Guida are available in two decor versions: Platinum and Black Pearl. Both welcoming and sophisticated, they stand out for the colors and materials used. The Black Pearl version will be the one presented at Cannes.  At technical level, many of the solutions proposed by the ECS Enhanced Cruising Solutions program have been used: active trim control, which automatically adjusts the yacht’s trim and ensures the best possible consumption efficiency; joystick driving, which maintains the course set at all speeds, guarantees comfortable, safe driving with perfect control, and provides an intuitive, user-friendly interface; and, finally, an integrated on-board control and monitoring system, which also includes an interface system with the main services, including air conditioning in the yacht’s various settings.  The Azimut S8 will be be powered by triple Volvo 1000hp with IPS pods propulsion and will reach top speeds up to 34 knots, and cruise effortless at 27 knots.

New Model: ISA Yachts Extra 86 Fast

The new ISA Yachts Extra line which premiered in 2018 with the entry 76 model, a 24 meter explorer yacht that develops a new concept of cruising all designed by Francesco Guida has today expanded with the larger Extra 86 Fast sister.  This 26 meter super yacht can accommodate up to eight people in four cabins, all with en-suite bathrooms. The layout of the living area includes the galley situated aft which, through a large and bright window with an automatic up/down system, allows direct communication with the outdoor dining area. This modern and innovative solution allows to have a full-beam living room forward, furnished with large sofas and an extendable table, for a contemporary and refined design.  The original design of the external profile expresses the strong personality of Extra 86 Fast. It is characterized by the play of contrasts between the clear and soft fiberglass surfaces and the elegant dark windows. The sizeable seamless windows generate the feeling of being inside a large crystal dome and provide floods of light and unparalleled panoramic views to the elegant interior living.  The layout design revolves around the desire to guarantee maximum livability everywhere on board: an example is the exceptional beach club of over fifty square meters, enabling guests to have pleasure of living comfortably in contact with the sea. The cockpit is spread over three levels sloping towards the water. While at the bow a large sundeck and a comfortable sofa create a fourth relaxation area.  Access to the crew area is at bow and connects to two cabins, three beds, with the respective bathrooms.  The fly deck offers a second wheelhouse, a full-beam maxi-sundeck and a bar serving a living area with a C-shaped sofa, to fully enjoy from an elevated position long and pleasant crossings or convivial lunches at anchor. The Extra 86 Fast version is capable of reaching a maximum speed of over 30 knots thanks to triple Volvo 1000hp engines.  To follow the Extra 86 Fast, in August ISA will launch also the new Extra 93, followed by the Extra 130 Alloy aluminum model.

Project: Van Dutch 56

Van Dutch present the project for a new 56 set to replace the 55. Outside very little has changed but the 56 might have a slightly longer windscreen.  The most visible changes will come in the cockpit deck, which now will feature a wet-bar to starboard, while the two L-shaped settees stay but are now independent and do not integrate with the forward settees.  Another difference will come in the helm station now featuring a glass station looking upright.  The lower deck layout will offer more flexibility now available in four different versions; Lounge and Daybed, Lounge and Master Cabin, Secondary Sleeper and Daybed, and Secondary Sleeper and Master Cabin.  These layouts vary from a very open area sleeping two, to a two cabin version which sleeps four.   All versions have one head, and a galley and dinette in between the cabins or between to the lounge areas.  The Van Dutch 56 is powered by twin Volvo 900hp with shaft drives delivering top speeds up to 38 knots.

New Model: Absolute Navetta 68

Absolute continue to expand and with this new 68, the fifth model in the Navetta range which today expands from 48 to the 73 flagship model.  The Navetta 68 is also Absolute third in size model, and sees the North Italian brand make an important presence above the twenty meter size, filling the gap between the 62 and 73 models, and offering a slightly smaller alternative to the flagship in a similar four cabin layout.  There is a lot of things to like, but its four cabin layout seems really coming from a motor yacht about two meters larger.  But do not be mistaken the Abolsute Navetta 68 is also a revolution of space and size on the main deck, and the flybridge. The 68 Navetta is also one of the few models in this class and size that has stayed true to an astern galley layout.  Performance wise the Absolute Navetta 68 is powered from twin Volvo 900hp or optional 1000hp engines.  Hull one was equipped with the smaller 900hp units and delivered an interesting top speed of 25 knots and a cruise of 20.  A long range speed of ten knots gives about 600 nautical miles of autonomy, which is good but not spectacular when you have a name and the looks of an explorer yacht.

Out-News = Hurricane Dorian

Hurricane season has arrived and it seems to have started with a blast.  Dorian was the first major hurricane of 2019, and started to form in August 24 first as Tropical storm, and then moving to Lesser Antilles in August 28 and developing as a hurricane.  On August 31 Dorian became category four, and the day after it reached category five, reaching sustained winds of 185 mph, and a low pressure of 910 millibars.  After reaching category five Dorian slowed down not little remaining nearly stationery on Abaco Islands and the Grand Bahamas island from September 1 to 3, causing extensive damage to the islands, with the high sustained winds, storm surge, and heavy rain fall.  At least thirty people are reported to be death by the havoc of Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas, with thousands of homes destroyed.  Reports are also saying that every single marina in the Grand Bahamas has been destroyed.  Dorian is now directed to Florida though the hurricane has so far decreased to a Category two.

New Model: Prestige 420 Flybridge

Prestige present its second generation 420 Flybridge model.  The new Prestige 420 features some important changes outside with a different line; fuller bow and larger hull side windows.  But the changes do not stop and also go technical, as it sees this mid size motor cruiser returning to traditional line shaft propulsion, from the previous Volvo IPS pod drive set up.  The Prestige 420 Flybridge features a two cabin layout two head layout, with the main deck presenting an astern galley layout. A single head version is also available replacing the second head with an utility room featuring a washing machine, while various wood choices are available for the interior fittings from Moabi, to Grey Oak, or Wenge.  The flybridge features a stair case to port side with an L-shaped dinette, sun-lounger and wet-bar to starboard, and helm station to port side.  An optional hard-top is available though personally I see it taking away not little from the lines of the 420.  Power for the Prestige 420 will come from twin reliable Cummins 6.7 liter block in 380hp and or optional 420hp engines.  As usual to Prestige an S version with hard top for Coupe lovers is also being produced, watch this spot to have more information on this new model.

blogger - Out-News is Back with a Change

So in July, PowerYacht refreshed the Out-News section.  The original idea of Out-News was to put more basis to marina talking.  Problems from manufacturers which happen during construction and show during the first uses of the boat, an engine, and or propulsion.  Unfortunately this was hard to come by, while manufacturers mishap do still happen, possibly even more nowadays then yesterday, finding the proof and evidence is another matter.  Especially when a guarantee fix needs to come from those same manufacturers.  Meaning that posting photos on the internet usually does not help your cause.
Now from July 2019 this has changed and Out-News has become the bringer of news.  And what a bringer it turned out to be with the month of July and August being particular hot in the happenings around the Mediterranean sea.  Couple of accidents happening every week I guess some even being more surprising to others.
The top news was boats on fire most of which have been old units, but we had a couple sad surprises of news concerning very new craft.  One was the second hull of Dreamline DL30 sinking in its first cruise from Malta to Sardinia.  The accident according to reports was very unfortunate and has nothing to do with the construction of the vessel.
Interesting to note that this was the second news in a year that a new construction goes total loss, after the Tecnomar Evo 120 caught fire in May at the builders shipyard in Massa Carrara during final fit out.  In past years we had similar accidents, I remember recently the Lurrsen in September 2018, and a Benetti in July of 2018 both being super yachts in phase of construction.
So that is some more Out-News for you!

Out-News = Ferretti Super Yacht in the Rocks

So I cannot say I know much about this accident involving a Ferretti 810 RPH with what appears a Panamanian flag which crashed into a reef.  This photo appeared in my social media feed on Saturday 31 August, in early afternoon, and beyond that I do not know more.  This is the second accident of this type in 2019 after we had a Princess V78 which had a similar but worse damage in Sifnos, Aegean Greek Islands in early July.  By the picture I would say the Ferretti was going at slow displacement speeds.  The location appears Eastern med; Croatia, Greece, or Turkey.  If anyone knows more please advise by leaving a comment in this post section.
Produced from 2003 to 2005 the Ferretti 810 RPH, was a further development of the 80 RPH model with the main recognizable difference being the larger port hole windows located at midships, serving the owners stateroom, and a bit larger extended bathing platform aft.  The 80 was a model born from the hull extension and updated super structure of the 225 Fly in 1997, Ferretti's flagship from 1993 up to 96.  All three models; 225, 80 and 810 where designed by Zuccon who did all Ferretti onwards from 1990 up to 2017, and the model was then replaced by the 830 in 2006.  The 810 RPH features a four double cabins lower deck layout, with two aft crew cabins for four persons. The RPH as in raised pilot house free'd space in the main deck, making this area more spacious to the standard version. The Ferretti 810 RPH was powered by twin MTU 1550hp which gave top speeds of thirty knots and a fast cruise of 27.

Moonen Under New Ownership

Dutch superyacht builder Moonen Yachts in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, is under new ownership. An Australian couple, Matthew and Louise Baxter are the new owners of the shipyard. Matthew, of Scottish origin, is a successful Australian businessman and entrepreneur, who in 1972 established the A M Group, a privately owned worldwide group of manufacturing companies of which he is executive chairman.  Louise and Matthew first discovered Moonen Yachts whilst sailing on Pittwater harbour in Sydney where they came across the beautiful Moonen yacht, Aurora (Moonen 84). This lead to their involvement with Moonen, a mid-sized Dutch pedigree shipyard with a dedicated and highly skilled team.  In Matthew’s words “It is a privilege to own a yard like Moonen. The brand has an impeccable pedigree, the yachts are true Dutch quality and the team is young, reliable, talented, and very loyal to the company. These characteristics are fundamental for success. I realise that the yard has to re-energise, but we are well prepared with a strong strategic plan and a strong balance sheet, I see a promising future ahead.”  The shipyard is very honoured and excited with Mr & Mrs. Baxter as their new owners. “We have trust in these new investors and have faith that they will establish a strong future for Moonen Yachts” says Johan Dubbelman, Moonen’s CEO. The 30 to 50 meter market is solid for well-built designs, and our plans are to increase production. Currently we have one, award winning, 36-meter Martinique in build, she’s 50% ready. The focus is to have her on display at the Monaco Yacht Show 2020.  Our aim is to scale up production efficiently and start two new build projects in the upcoming 6 months. Following on with the current build we will start a second 36 metre and a 44 metre, both new and future proof timeless Moonen yachts with interiors designed by the award winning renowned design houses, like Studio Indigo. By building on speculation, delivery times will be shorter and customisation still possible, which is an absolute advantage for our future clients.”  The majority of the staff and workforce, which are very important to Moonen, have been reappointed and are enthusiastic to be part of this strong new leadership. To assure continuous high-end quality, Moonen Yachts will reinforce the cooperation with long-term strategic partners and subcontractors.

Nordhavn Distance Pennants Awarded

Nordhavns are closing in on seven million miles traveled. That’s 281 times around Earth, and while Nordhavns are known for having more circumnavigations than all other brands put together, we’re not quite at 281. Yet. That impressive mileage total – 6,685,917 nm to be exact comes from 450 Nordhavns cranking out miles here, there and everywhere over the course of the past 30 years. That includes Nordhavn 46 hull #1, the first Nordhavn ever, built in 1989, which is still out there with its liveaboard owners.  This summer Nordhavn heard a lot of the owners, thanks to it's website re-design, many owners were prompted to sign in and log their travels. Since June, 13 Nordhavn owners have earned new mileage pennants, some earning their very first, and one long-time owner netting his 70,000 nm burgee. Impressive stuff, indeed!

Viking at Mid Atlantic

With a record $3.5 million up for grabs, competition is fierce at this year's MA. Anxious crews fishing out of Cape May, New Jersey, and Ocean City, Maryland, have been racking up releases and keeping the weigh station staff running. As of this writing, that fish is the 2nd-heaviest white marlin of the tournament. Michael Rothman's Viking 92 Double Barrel is in 4th place with a 67-pound fish, and Joe Rahman's Viking 80 Auspicious rounds it out in 5th place with a 65-pound white.  A fleet of Vikings have been sitting pretty on the leaderboards amongst the 156 battlewagons looking for the big one. Some of those include the 45 Chain Reaction,Viking 48s Random Chaos and Fish On, the 50 Boy's Toy, the 52 Marlin Hunter, the 58 JT, Viking 62s Reel Toy, Intents and Big Oil, the 66 Torta, Viking 70s Mjolnirand Goin' In Deep, the Viking 72, along with Viking 80s Catch 23 and Amarula Sun. New Model: Viking 44 SC

Creating a model within a platform has been a successful path for Viking in it's smaller sub fifteen meters models, and this is continued in the 44 series already available as Convertible and Open models, which share the same hull with uniquely different deck and interior arrangements. The popularity of the 44 has encouraged Viking to expand the range with striking profiles and special features that showcase the New Jersey builder ability to broaden the appeal of this versatile hull.  Using its five-axis profile machine Viking designed and built a plug and a female mold to create a rakish fiberglass deck house module, fully open to the cockpit while incorporating stylish convertible window lines and a roof overhang. Built into finely tool hardtop is a pair of easily accessed rod stowage compartments.  The Viking 44 Sport Coupe has a distinctive New England or Great Lakes flavor for cruising efficacy and includes a choice of a custom fiberglass mast for the radar and other antennas, or a customized radar arch. In the eleven squared meter cockpit, the 44 SC sports the familiar starboard mezzanine seating arrangement of the popular 44 Open. Engine room access is provided with a convenient center line hatch that’s integral with the mezzanine seating. The SC has been engineered for the installation of a Seakeeper gyro stabilizer, which brings great stability to the sport cruiser to increase overall comfort.  The command deck includes our signature and tournament-proven center-line forward helm station on a raised platform for enhanced visibility. The console holds a bank of electronics displays, and has space for engine instrumentation and other accessories. Recessed compartments accommodate radios and additional equipment, plus accessory switches and controls.  A sliding companionway door and a large set of stairs with a starboard-side vertical handrail lead to the climate-controlled salon. With its five meter short beam, the widest of any boat in this class, the salon is a spacious social area for relaxing and entertaining. The starboard-side galley, which sits opposite an L-shaped lounge with a dinette table, includes teak cabinetry with meticulous joinery and fit and finish, expansive Corian counter tops, an electric range, separate under-counter refrigerator and freezer units and a microwave/convection oven. Other notable amenities include a stereo system with a flat screen HD TV.  In the forward master stateroom, the island queen bed with mattress has a lift-up top with gas pistons and maple-lined storage underneath. There's also a maple-lined hanging locker. Air conditioning, a 19-inch flat screen television and access to the head and shower round out the standard amenities.  The head has custom Amtico flooring, a one-piece molded Corian countertop with rounded edges and a sink with a satin nickel faucet. With its two-person berth, the aft guest stateroom can accommodate another couple and makes for a nice hideaway for the kids.  Twin Man 800hp diesels serve as the standard propulsion package. The engine-room, lazarette, forward bilge and anchor locker are all painted with Snow White Awlgrip for maximum visibility and easier maintenance. A Delta-T engine-room ventilation system, an oil exchange system and an Onan 13.5 kW E-QD Series generator are just some of the standard mechanical and electrical equipment.

Van den Hoven from the Netherlands has unveiled the dynamic design for an all new Voyager 61 flybridge motoryacht, a result of years of research and design and client consultation.  Construction has started on the first of these spacious all-aluminium fast-displacement yachts that will allow owners to cover distances in good time and exceptional comfort. With more people looking to enjoy a areas such as the Mediterranean, Scandinavia and beyond, Van den Hoven decided to branch out and create a fast yacht in aluminium, developed with one of the leading Dutch designers in this field, Rene van der Velden for exterior and interior, and hull shape by Fred Dorresteijn.  Der Helden has successfully retained the characteristic Van den Hoven lines while drawing an exciting motor yacht. Recognizing that owners will spend a lot of time outdoors as they explore new grounds, the Voyager 61 makes excellent use of the available al fresco spaces. A large flybridge comfortably accommodates eight people who will enjoy the pleasures of the outside galley and the sun loungers. The foredeck also features large sun beds while the aft deck is a pleasant spot for shaded relaxation in the open air. The overall goal of the interior design was to achieve the finest possible blend of space, lightness and transparency, offering a very comfortable living space. A large open galley on the main deck is connected to the lounge and dining room, with one flowing piece of furniture bringing simplicity to the layout while generating a lot of space in optical terms. In a similar vein, the lower deck uses glass walls and doors in the bathrooms to create a unified space. Meanwhile, the extensive use of glass as part of the superstructure further complement the light and airy ambiance on the Voyager 61. The views are excellent too. The last piece of the jigsaw for the Voyager 61 was to create a hull that synthesizes comfort, speed and low fuel consumption. This has been successfully achieved by teaming up with award-winning Dutch naval architect Fred Dorresteijn. The hull has the smallest possible stern surface thanks to an ascending keel line from forward to aft, minimizing resistance and swell when going slower than hull speed.  Speed estimates are for 21 knots from only twin Volvo 725hp and weight of over 42 tones.  Thanks to serious interest noted and based on the many remarks, observations and wishes Van Den Hoven is planning to expand the series with a 70 and a 79 feet Voyager models.

John Erin Edson 1932 - 2019

Founder of Bayliner John Orin Edson, a dreamer and a powerhouse in the recreational marine industry, died on August 27, at age 87. From founding Bayliner to owning super yachts and investing in Westport Shipyards, he had an extraordinary, long-lasting, impact on yachting. Born in 1932, Edson was a boating entrepreneur, from an early age. He grew up boating with his family on Lake Washington in Seattle. When he was just 13, he built his first boat with money from his paper route. He then turned to boat racing on Lake Washington in his teens. The Korean War, where he served in the U.S. Army, interrupted his college years. The lack of a formal degree did not dissuade him upon his return, however. In fact, Edson began building wooden sailboats in the garage of his Washington State home when he came back. Together with his brother Walt, he began selling them in an open lot in Seattle in 1955. Wood-hulled motorboats soon followed. The first year’s success allowed them to start selling other brands, too, in just their second year. Advance Outboard Marine, their dealership, exceeded the $1-million sales mark in 1960. With business booming, and more locations opening, Edson rebranded the company Bayliner Boats. It’s no exaggeration to say that Bayliner revolutionized boat buying. Edson believed a Bayliner should be a reliable, affordable boat for any family. Furthermore, he introduced the Total Value Package, offering a Bayliner boat, motor, and trailer for one price. Before this, each item sold separately. For perspective, consider that in 1982, a Bayliner 1600 Capri, with an outboard and trailer, cost just $6,295. By the time Edson sold Bayliner to Brunswick Corporation in 1986, the brand was worth $425 million. Edson was not yet done with boating and in 1993, he took delivery of Evviva, a 161-foot custom super yacht from Admiral Marine Works. Notably, she was an all-composite super yacht, in an era where naysayers said the material was unsuitable for such a large project. Evivva went on to prove them wrong, winning multiple awards. The yacht still cruises today, as Aurora A.  Evivva also served as a prototype for the Westport 164 series.  Edson became the owner of hull number two in the Westport 164 series in 2006, nine years after becoming the shipyard’s majority shareholder. Naturally, he christened the yacht Evivva, loosely meaning “cheers” or “to life” in Italian.  Edson and his family cruised the world aboard each yacht. In 2014 Edsoin sold his interest in Westport to the Chouest family, selling Evivva the following year.  A noted philanthropist, Edson established the J. Orin Edson Foundation, which supports educational and healthcare causes. He and his wife Charlene donated $50 million to Arizona State University earlier this year. The funds were earmarked for research and education on dementia.  Edson leaves behind his wife Charlene, two sons Jack and Mark, and grandsons John, Alex, Coral, and Mark.
