Also meeting with great satisfaction was Atlantis, the specialist for opens, which was in attendance in Miami with its entire line, including two new models – the 38 and the 58. Likewise noteworthy are the recent sales and service agreements concluded with MarineMax and with a broad network of Azimut dealers in Central and South America, with the company achieving good sales success and making new contacts. At the halfway point of the 2011/12 boating season, Azimut has reached

Cigarette with Myco Tilt Trailer

While tilt trailers are nothing new to fans of high-performance catamarans, V-bottom hull enthusiasts who visited the Miami International Boat Show February 16-20 where in for an eye-popping surprise from MYCO Trailers --the world's first V-bottom display trailer designed to show off the inside of a boat while it sits on dry land. Firsts are nothing new for the Bradenton, Florida-based manufacturer, so when Cigarette Racing Team wanted to showcase the interior of its new 39' Top Gun Open at the Florida Powerboat Club's November 2011 Key West Poker Run Village, the two companies put into development an idea they had been kicking around for several years. The results are even more impressive than they sound. The trailer's debut at Key West provided an additional Wow! factor reports Cigarette CEO & President Skip Braver. The MYCO V-bottom Tilt Trailer will be displaying another impressive Cigarette offering at the Miami Boat Show in booth B-23, and based on the reaction from other boat builders, the trailer will soon be available to OEMs and dealers of all boat brands. The tilt trailer was originally developed to tow catamarans through the narrow streets of Europe and on U.S. highways to avoid "wide load" restrictions. Tweedie hints that the next logical step for the V-bottom trailer will be a version suitable for towing in the tilt position, which will require some additional engineering and design.

Heesen Yachts, world leader in design, engineering and construction of luxury superyachts, is thrilled to announce that Team Synergy won third place in the match races at the RC44 – Puerto Calero Cup, held in Lanzarote (Canary Islands) from February 8 to 12. Fourteen teams returned to Puerto Calero to start the 2012 RC44 Championship Tour, three months after the final of the RC44 World Championships. The battle for the Puerto Calero Cup, the first leg in this year’s circuit, was waged in open waters. The challenging racing course makes Lanzarote one of the best sea sailing venues in Southern Europe. A wide range of sailing conditions gave the teams a great challenge at their first appearance after the winter break. Team Synergy, led by America’s Cup sailor Ed Baird won five out of six match races, placing third in the overall ranking. The team was less fortunate in the fleet races, where they ranked 13th due to a series of major break-downs.

Heesen Sponsor Synergy RC44 Team

Heesen Yachts, world leader in design, engineering and construction of luxury superyachts, is thrilled to announce the main sponsorship of the Synergy team for the 2012 RC44 Championship, founded by America’s Cup skipper Russell Coutts back in 2007. With a mix of amateurs and professionals in the crew line-up, the class attracts some of the world’s leading business minds as their owner-drivers along with many of the world’s top international sailors. The RC44 is established as one of the world’s leading yacht racing circuits. This year’s tour offers the competitors 25 days of diverse and challenging match and fleet racing at some very different venues across Europe: 8 – 12 February; Puerto Calero – Lanzarote, 28 March – 1 April; Cascais – Portugal, 30 May – 3 June; Gmunden – Austria, 18 – 22 July; Marstrand – Sweden, 3 – 7 October; Rovinj – Croatia. Synergy Russian Sailing Team (RUS 13) races on hull number 24, launched in 2010. Boat Owners and helmsmen Valentin Zavadnikov and Leonid Lebedev together with American tactician Ed Baird will lead the team Synergy, which won 15 match races last year and finished 12th overall both in 2010 and 2011 seasons. Having also run successful TP52 and Louis Vuitton Trophy campaigns, Synergy’s goal is to develop top level yacht racing in Russia by creating professional crew to compete against the world’s best sailors. RC44 is a light-displacement, high performance, one design racing yacht conceived to be fast downwind and powerful upwind. Co-designed by four-time America’s Cup winner Russell Coutts with naval architect Andrej Justin, the class endeavours to keep competition as fair as possible by ensuring the boats are strictly identical in terms of construction, shape of hull, appendages and weight/weight distribution as well as deck layout, equipment and sail plan. With everything, from the keel to the tip of the mast, made entirely from carbon, and with a powerful sail plan, the RC44 is rapid downwind, commanding upwind and performs exceptionally in both light winds and heavier breezes. Hull, deck and stern scoop are built in sandwich construction of epoxy resin and exclusively carbon unidirectional and biaxial fabrics, while the twill carbon woven rowing is used to give a smooth, clear, carbon look finish on all external surfaces. The keel is built of carbon pre-preg material in carbon moulds post cured at high temperature and pressure in an autoclave. A weed cutter is fitted in the keel leading edge. The trim tab is built in carbon with RTM technology. The lead-antimony bulb is cast in CNC machined steel mould for high precision and faired with epoxy compound. The rudder and tapered rectangular section rudder shaft are one piece carbon built with RTM technology in a high precision female mould. The rudder shaft structure is FEM optimised and dimensioned according to ABS loads for speed of over 26 knots.

Moonen Two Refits

Having recently completed the build-off of a Dixon 120 and the refitting of a custom Heesen motoryacht, Moonen Refits has now embarked on two new projects. The Moonen 72 SJS is being comprehensively upgraded technically and aesthetically while the Moonen 84 Aurora is being given a brand-new paint system. SJS was launched as Lady Jalinka in 2001, an impressive example of the Moonen 72 displacement range and the first yacht designed in a successful partnership with Rene van der Velden. Her new owners brought SJS back home to Moonen following their first cruise in Scandinavia last summer in order to customise her to their requirements. The exhaust system has been redesigned to bring the sound levels below even Moonen's renowned high standards. A complete new dashboard is being fitted along with a new navigation system, while new upholstery and leather for the sofa will ensure that the wheelhouse looks as good as she operates. The main lounge is being given a new ceiling, TV + lift and settees, while the three lower deck suites are being given a fresh individual colour scheme. Meanwhile, the owners of the Moonen 84 Aurora have brought their dark-blue beauty - originally launched in 2004 - back to the yard for a complete new paint job. As often, the Moonen Refits team is partnering with the acclaimed Dutch experts from Klaver Yachtpainting for this type of specialised work.

Riva Carlo Birthday

Everything is ready in Sarnico to celebrate Carlo Riva, the globally renowned and esteemed entrepreneur whose unique ingenuity has left an indelible mark in the history of pleasure boating and who, over the years, was capable of turning the Riva brand and the Sarnico boatyard (which have been part of the Ferretti Group since the year 2000) into a reference for the entire Italian and global boating sector. I have always cruised towards Riva as one would cruise towards a longed-for horizon, and I have always considered Carlo Riva as a master a owe a lot to, from both a professional and a personal standpoint. This is why I am delighted to be able to give him my best wishes for this extraordinary moment in his outstanding life - says Ferretti Group’s Chairman Norberto Ferretti. Carlo Riva was born in 1922, he is an engineer and was appointed “Pionere della Nautica” by UCINA (the Italian Marine Industry Association) in 1988 and “Personnalité de la Mer” by Albert II of Monaco in 2005; today, on 24th February, he blows out 90 candles. Born into a family of boat builders, he had an immense passion for boats and boat building since his early years and was then the Master who, in the 1950s, turned this brand into a synonym of style, status and perfection, also thanks to models like Ariston and Tritone, Sebino and Florida, all the way to Aquarama, which was launched in 1962. All crafts which have made Riva a symbol of Made in Italy creations all over the world and were the object of desire for noble people, actors, sports champions, businessmen and celebrities. Among them, it is enought to mention Sophia Loren, Brigitte Bardot and Liz Taylor, Sean Connery and Jean Paul Belmondo, Richard Burton and Jackie Stewart. But there were also royalties, princes and sheikhs from all over the world. The motor boat Aquarama, whose 50th anniversary is being celebrated this year, embodied the triumph of Carlo Riva’s production philosophy, becoming the symbol of the shipyard and of the Riva brand everywhere in the world. However, celebrations will not end with Carlo Riva's birthday and the anniversary of his legendary Aquarama: these important occasions will indeed usher in a long series of events that will unravel throughout the year and will culminate in the celebrations, in June, of the brand’s 170th anniversary.  On that occasion, a special website will be created, featuring in-depth, interesting information about the 170 fantastic years of this business adventure, characterised by inexhaustible passion for innovation, design, and the constant improvement of the boats' quality and safety, all aspects which have turned Riva into a true icon in the world of luxury and international boating.

Riva Special Guest at Arte Fiera Bologna

Riva, a brand by Ferretti Group, took part with the Aquariva by Marc Newson at Arte Fiera, the contemporary art exhibition that took place at the venue of BolognaFiere form 27th to 30th January 2012. The Aquariva by Marc Newson was the special guest of Arte Fiera, the annual event that celebrated its 36th edition, making Bologna the Italian centre for modern and contemporary art during the last week end. The Aquariva project by Marc Newson is the result of the partnership of two of the greatest representatives of International design: Officina Italiana Design – the studio which has been designing for 20 years the style of the crafts by Riva, manufactured in the glorious shipyards funded by Pietro Riva in 1842 – and Marc Newson - the famous Australian designer who is the protagonist with his works of many collections, even permanent ones, in the greatest museums and art galleries in the world. This artistic union led to the review of the historic 33-foot model featuring smooth and elegant lines, through which Newson expressed its personal view of nautical design. The result is the creation of an exclusive Aquariva model, a timeless classic, connecting the past with the present, tradition and innovation. The Aquariva by Newson is an extraordinary match of style and functionality, a glance to the period of the Dolce Vita of the 50’s and 60’s which looks towards the future, in line with the latest trends of nautical design. This result has also been achieved thanks to the special materials chosen by the Australian designer: the wood-like textile-based laminate (a phenol composite, the forerunner of fiberglass), used for the deck area and the helm station; the anodized aluminum instead of steel and chrome brass, an unusual choice in the nautical sector which allowed giving a high-tech touch to the classic and elegant flair of Riva, a myth of the sector, a synonym for the exclusivity and luxury of the Italian style. The exclusive Aquariva by Newson was launched last year as limited edition, 22 hulls only, and is distributed all over the world through the Riva dealers’ network.

Project: Bering 50

Bering is a fairly young US builder, who builds Explorer yachts from fifty up to 78 feet.  So far the company has launched two models, a prototype, and the 55.  The looks are based from the Norwegian fishing boat, with a modern minimal touch.  Unlike many competitors in this segment Bering has decided to stick to steel for building its yachts with a declared 3/8 of an inch thickness used for the bottom.  The Bering 50 will be the entry level model with a two deck layout and a flybridge.  Huge customization is a big factor in any Bering, and the plans presented show four interior choices; of two or three cabins. A huge difference in the interior plans is also a choice where to fit the engine, with a midships, or aft location option for this.  Single or twin engine choices are available as is hybrid by Regen Nautic.  Cruising speed is 8 knots, which should a good range even with the standard five thousand liters fuel tank, and more so with the ten thousand optional choice.

It’s premier for the Nimbus 34 Nova HT at the Göteborg Boat show this February. The hardtop is of an entirely new design and can be fitted with an electric canvas canopy, and a door facing aft or an electric glass sunroof and fixed sliding doors.  The electric canopy maximises the roof opening, both width and lengthwise, providing extra light and airiness on sunny days. The cover door facing aft contributes to giving you as much open air feeling as possible and results in an entirely “open” layout. The hardtop, fitted with the electric glass sunroof, features heavy stainless glazed sliding doors facing aft. The sunroof is the same model as in the Nimbus 365 Coupé, recently chosen as the “European Motorboat of the Year 2012” in Düsseldorf.  Other new features include integrated spots in the right places for good, functional lighting. This sale of the 41m Classic is also very important for ISA coming from a repeatable customer, with a delivery schedule date for 2013. ISA is a yard that sticks to provide owners with large innovative super yachts that express personality and luxury, and this 41 meter Classic is the result of the yard's desire to propose its own changes, without the restrictions of the current trends. The design of this steel hull aluminium upper structure super yacht is based on three fundamental elements: the visual centre back on the stern, an aggressive streamlined bow and the lines linking the stern and the roll bar continued by the two spoilers connecting the main deck with the upper deck. The final result of these apparently contrasting elements offer an extremely balanced appearance and a compact lightweight feel. The interior design will be executed by ISA.  Powered by two CAT 1001hp engines the 41m Classic will reach a max speed of 14 knots. The owner went more for a guest layout; with one master and four guest cabins, it can accommodate ten guests in luxury and comfort.

Web: Faeton New Web Site

Faeton boats from Spain, since 2008 part of the Astondoa Group presents its new virtual World wide web Showroom.  Faeton was founded in 1980, in Spain. In this period the Greek god named Spanish company has built over three thousand boats from 23 to forty feet.  In the early nineties Faeton was the first of the Spanish boat builders to produce an open deck bow rider day boat.  In 1995 Faeton created another bench mark for itself with the presentation of the 780 Moraga, a shaft propulsion fishing cruiser which sold over eight hundred units since its introduction.  This success also set a stage for Faeton using famous US hull designer David L.Napier for its boats.  In 1997 Faeton starts an expansion plan which leads to 2000 when the company buys a new yard with 100.000 squared meters of land, forty thousand of which covered.  In 2005 Faeton started a restructuring plan in order to improve the design of its models into a new age.  The Spanish Almeria located builder currently offers four Series; Cruiser, Moraga, Scape, and Formentera which present a total of sixteen models.  The entry level model is the F-26 Scape, and the flagship is the F-380 Cruiser.  Faeton new web site is available in Spanish, English, Italian, French, and Portughese language.  The new web show room takes you around with the following buttons; Range, Company, News, and Contact.

New Model: Cabo 40 Hardtop Express

Preparing itself for the upcoming Miami boat show, Cabo has just a couple of weeks ago launched hull number one of the new 40 Hardtop Express.  This new Cabo shares hull with the famed 40 Flybridge, and follows design footsteps of the latest one year ago presented 44 Hardtop Express model, showing the same concept in a smaller size.  The 40 Hardtop Express will also in my opinion be a competitor to the bigger model, thanks to its versatility of two choices below; single cabin with saloon, or two cabins.  In both formats owners room remains to fore, with the twin bunk berths second cabin replacing the L-shaped settee to starboard.  Outside is all Cabo with a huge cockpit offering all what any fisherman wants, thanks to the wide beam.  But Cabo makes also comfort for guests a must, with a nice mezzanine on the aft deck, and L-shaped lounger behind the center console helm.  Power is from twin Cummins 600hp these with ZF Zeus pods, or 715hp Cummins or Cats with line shaft propulsion.  With the option of Cats and shafts the Cabo 40 Hardtop Express reached 36 knots in its first tests.

Project: Casa 38 HT

Starting up with a 54, and 46 feet models, Casa now looks to a smaller 38 model, and after presenting the Open version project now shows the 38 HT.  A model which represents more the philosophy of the central Italy, South of Rome located boat builder, who so far has always built hard top cruisers and yachts.  The 38 HT copies in all but the hard top the open version, with the well laid interior appearing again.  This making the best use of the spaces offered, presenting itself with two cabins, two shower heads, galley, and an L-shaped saloon.  The aft deck is all for the sun lovers, with sun pad to aft, and C-shaped settee in front, with the helm, and wet bar located opposite to starboard.  Casa seems also resolute on plans to show a well laid engine room with easy to reach secondary items.  Power is from twin Volvo 300hp with estimated speeds being a max of 38 knots.

Improve-it = Clipper 52 Cordova

Clipper has launched a pilothouse layout for its popular 52 Cordova Series II.  The pilothouse is a new option for the internal layout, offering the crew a dedicated navigation station forward, beside the helm. The navigation station includes a wide, upholstered bench seat, fold-up working table and space to spread paper charts. To accommodate the navigation station, the Clipper design team moved the galley aft, and redesigned the saloon to offer a U-shape lounge with a multi-purpose dinette table. The dinette table slides out for easier access and is mounted on a gas strut pedestal. The table can be lowered to create a coffee table effect or to operate as the base for a cushion that turns the lounge into a generous double bed. Of course, the Clipper 52 Cordova with the pilothouse option maintains all the classic Clipper features including the three double cabins, walk-around decks, side and aft boarding doors, stainless steel sliding aft saloon doors and air conditioning throughout.

Project: Fairline 80 Squadron Custom

It's been rumoured for a long time, since 2004 for sure, of Fairline going over the eighty feet barrier, and finally the British builder presents officially the rendering of an upcoming new 80 Squadron Custom, which will replace the current 78 born 74 flagship.  The 80 Squadron Custom looks distinctively Fairline outside following design patterns the yard has embraced since the late nineties.  A style which started from the medium sales lucky 52 and 62 Squadron series.  So far Fairline is showing great flexibility in this new flagship with a choice of four lower deck plans; offering from three suites, two four room choices, and one very hard to find in this size and more charter friendly five cabins plan.  One of the four cabins plan, also offers the distinct feature of having an owners room forward, this in this size being always located to midships. The main deck looks also innovative on plan with a standing high pilot house.  Two cabins, plus lobby for crew are located to aft.  So far no performance and engine numbers are given, but I do accept the usual Fairline around 30 knots performance.

Web: Lazzara New Web Site

Lazzara, updates its world wide web showroom to a new version. Officially founded in 1990, though in reality Lazzara roots in boat building go much more before this, being the Lazzara family in its third generation of boat builders. After this in 1960 he starts Columbia Yachts which in 1967 sells, and a few years later moving to Florida in the early seventies creates Gulfstar Yachts. Bellagio is a new sport yacht currently under construction with a length of 16 meter, designed by the famous Dutch naval architect Vripack and build at Mulder.  The yacht is standard equipped with three cabins; one big owners cabin, a comfortable double guest cabin and even a crew cabin. The owners cabin has an ensuite bathroom, complete with shower and toilet. In the wheelhouse the yacht has four pilot seats, upholstered with the finest leather. Project: Absolute 72 Fly

The Absolute wave never stops, and the Italian brand headed by Angelo Gobbi shows its next project, one of important relevance for a new flagship, the 72 Fly.  This model takes over the mantle as biggest Absolute from the 70 STY launched in 2008, going two feet larger, and expands the flybridge range as introduced in 2010, and today having four models from 40 to 53 feet.   As shown in smaller models, Absolute head of design Sergio Maggi also on the 72 Fly, concentrates on modern Italian looks using huge window surfaces to make the owner and guest having a touch feeling with the exterior environment.  Down below a four double cabins with three heads interior plan is offered.  Power will be from Volvo engines, with IPS pods propulsion, and I imagine here a twin IPS1200 with 900hp engines set up.  Absolute having among the best experience with the Volvo IPS pods being one of the first users, starting in 2006 and powering nearly all other models minus the entry level 40 SC.

Project: Sunseeker 40 Portofino

PowerYacht announced a smaller Sunseeker a year ago when at the Southampton show 2010 the British builder was showing renderings for a new small 38 Portofino.  Now Sunseeker officially presents this project, renamed as 40 Portofino which will compete against other British and European builder in this very competitive size and market segment.  Recently the British seem to have recaptured this size; see new Princess, just improved Fairline 38 Targa now with hardtop option and three berth midships cabin, and future upcoming offers also coming from rejuvinated Broom.  The 40 Portofino sees Sunseeker go to just forty feet in some years now. Smallest model was for a certain time the more performance orientated 43 Superhawk stopped in production in 2010.  The 40 Portofino is more a cabin hard top sport cruiser, with what looks on plan a spacious well laid two cabin sleeping five layout.  The aft cabin will feature a three berths cabin.  In between is a saloon and galley, with a head to starboard serving guest and owners with an en-suite door from the owners stateroom. Propulsion which was my question mark for this model will be efficient to run stern drives.

New Model: Intermarine 53

Another important step for Intermarine which with the new 53 designed by Fernando de Almeida attacks a very important size in the market.  The 53 was presented by Intermarine at the final 2011 Soa Poalo boat show, along with another important novelty the 65.  Including the 53, Intermarine in a space of one year has launched five models of the new line, the others being; 42, 60, 65, and 75.  A 55, and the 85 flagship are currently in the making. Designed by architect Fernando de Almeida, the 53 continues Intermarine evolution of modern European lines outside, with original large view windows in both the main and lower decks. As is expected Intermarine 53 pursues the usual features of the Brazilian company, larger to the usual in similar size bathing platform, aft deck, and no mullions windshield.  Inside the architect went for a modern, yet sober layout with a single step only split level saloon separating relaxing areas in the welcoming settee, and small day galley, and helm in the forward part.  Surprisingly below we have another more spacious L-shaped galley, located in between the three double cabins, and two shower heads.  The owners room is located to fore and features an en-suite bathroom.  A single bed crew cabin with shower head is located to aft.   Power is from twin Volvos 670hp with top speeds up to 31 knots.

Project: San Juan SJ 60

A project for San Juan, the SJ 60 which will represent the flagship of its eight model line up which starts at thirty feet.  As all San Juan the new 60 feet flagship will be a traditional down East lobster boat inspired yacht.  As the picture above shows this model will be a flybridge based.  Although I do imagine a hard top choice variant to follow this version in the future when this will be launched.  San Juan has in the past also shown design for a very similar to this 75 model, which was never launched.  We hope that the 60 brings better luck to this builder.  I once viewed an SJ 48 and the quality was very impressive, followed by a not easy on the pocket price tag.

New Model: Innovazioni Progetti IP 58 SF

A first for Innovazioni Progetti which with IP 58 SF presents if first flybridge motor yacht.  So far the North Adriatic sea based builder has always concentrated on the sport open style of boat.  The IP is also a new range for Innovazioni Progetti introduced in the last year and already having three models,. This new line joins the long standing Mira, and Alena.  Architect Michele Carnevale for the 58 SF, opted for a Sport Fly design, which is confirmed with the sunpad, and a double seat helm station layout.  Inside is a three cabins interior all having independent bathrooms. Power choice is a standard of Volvo 800hp, or optional MAN, and triple Volvo 435hp with IPS pod drives.

Project: Mulder 75 Wheelhouse

Following a custom order Mulder has recently started building a new 75 Wheelhouse which will be delivered in 2013.  This new Mulder will be the largest model of the always growing and sober looking Wheelhouse fleet, which currently features three models 63, 70, and 73.  The 75 Wheelhouse will measures over 23 meters with a beam of over five and a half. The yacht will have a round bilged hull and a maximum speed of around 20 knots via twin Caterpillar C12 engines of 715 hp each. Her sophisticated lines, dark blue hull, white superstructure, and solid teak decks and gunwale will make for a highly elegant appearance. The interior will be spacious and well thought through, with an owner's stateroom, a VIP suite and two guest cabins. A tender storage space and crew cabin will be installed aft.

New Model: Princess V39

Princess definitely show a stunner in the looks department with the V39, a model which is the new entry ticket into the line up of Britain's second largest boat builder.  Presented early last month at the London show, Princess have high hopes in the new V39 and the good reviews all show a bright future coming up.  The V39 presents itself as a traditional two cabin sport cruiser; owner room to fore, and twins or double convertible guest cabin to midships.  The aft deck is a split level area with a small step dividing the dinette aft, from the helm and and a lounging settee with a wet bar to starboard.  Huge glass surfaces in the midships cabins and on the fore deck are the revolution in this model, as I think in many areas it is still a bit old.  See step split exterior cockpit deck, and interior layout does not bring any news.  Many in this size today offer two shower heads, or a cabin with three berths to say the least.  Considering a length of 41 feet plus that is not much. Power is twin Volvo 330hp which should give top speeds around of 38 knots.
Technical Data:
LOA - 12.98 m (42.6ft) incl pulpit
LOA - 12.65 m excl pulpit
Beam - 3.81 m
Draft - 0.56 m excluding props and drives
Displacement - 9100 kg loaded
Fuel Capacity - 700 l
Water Capacity - 300 l

The Azimut 100 was presented by surprise at the Genoa show, where it was finished just in time for this important fall season event.  This new super yacht model carries some weight on its shoulders, because it is officially the first Grande model launched within this new Azimut over 100 feet concept.  The 100 so far does not replace the 105, but by the looks, it might take a customer or two. Designed as all Azimut's minus the explorer Magellano line up by Stefano Righini, the 100 is a two and a half deck super yacht, with as tradition or inventor is full of huge view windows in all areas, and carries the traditional form follows function layout of the North Italian boat builder.  The standard accommodation plan features four guest cabins, with owners stateroom located to midships. The fore part which on many competitors this size features the owners room has a secondary relaxing lounge.  A crew area sleeping four in three cabins, with two heads is located to aft.  Power is from twin MTU 2200hp with traditional line shaft propulsion which reach a max speed of 26 knots.

Improve-it = Viking 50 Convertible

Following its success with the 42 series launched in fall 2010, Viking has build a prototype 50 Convertible with the new big ZF4000 pods units.  For creating the new modified bottom of the 2008 launched 50 Convertible, Viking used its one million dollars five axis pro filer.   The new hull now consists of propeller pockets, where to accommodate the ZF pods, and a redesign of the transom to accommodate the Humphree Interceptor trim tabs.  The 50 Convertible with ZF4000 also needed structural modification as the big pod units weigh over 900 kg each and fit directly to the hull, mounted to a dedicated stringer system capped with aluminum reinforcement.  Performance wise the Viking 50 Convertible with ZF4000 pods and Cats 1150hp delivered over 39 knots of top speed, 2 nautical miles per hour more to the standard shaft version.  A cruise speed of 32 knots also gave over 20 liters per hours less of consumption for the ZF4000 Viking 50. Needless to say the ZF4000 50 Convertible provides easy side manoeuvring thanks to the pods and the joystick system. So far the Viking is not offering the 50 Convertible to the market, due to the extra costs involved in the making.  Although the US New Jersey company is willing to build one if a client desires it and is reluctant to pay the extra costs involved for this version, so far delivered only as prototype for ZF.

INBUILD ~ Galeon 430 HTC Part 1 of 5

Thanks to Galeon we show you again a new journey in the building of hull one of the upcoming 420 HTC.  In this photo we are seeing the development of the tooling for the super structure of this enclosed hard top sport cruiser.  The 420 HTC like most of the Galeon's from 2004 onwards is designed by renowned British designer Tony Castro, and will share hull with the October Genoa presented 400, now renamed as 420 Fly.  One interesting feature of the 420 HTC will be the transformation feature of the aft deck, which can develop in various forms; single large sunpad, two chaise relaxing lounges, or in a settee for dining.  Another winning feature of this upcoming model, and also as the 420 Fly; will be the three double cabins featured in the lower deck.
