Three boaters were saved as a twenty meter Hatteras sportfish yacht sank four nautical miles offshore to Pascagoula in Jackson County, Mississippi on the late morning of Friday 31 July. Following a distress call the aircrew of HC-144 Ocean Sentry advised about the emergency with the US Coast Guard Pascagoula turning to the scene with a water pump to the de-water the vessel, this made in order to gain time. Following this a small boat came to the scene and saved the boaters, with the yacht ultimately sinking. The cause of the sinking was not reported.
The yacht in this sinking is a Hatteras 65 Convertible Series I as designed by Jack Hargraves and produced from 1986 to 1998. The 65 Convertible Series I was a replacement to 60 Convertible Series I, and was replaced by the Hatteras 65 Convertible Series II.
