At least a dozen boats were wrecked in a fire which started on the early hours of 02:30 of Friday fifth June at the Cottage Park Yacht Club on Orlando Avenue at Boston Harbor in Winthrop, Massachusetts. Winthrop Fire responded to the fire, and were later assisted by Massachusetts State Police, and the marine units of Boston, Everett and Massport. Two boats broke free in the fire, making the operation more delicate and complicated. US Coast Guard and Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection was notified, and now its for the clean up operation. No injuries were reported from the fire, with the cause of the blaze being unknown.
Cottage Park Yacht Club was founded in 1902, and embraces club membership along its leisure boating facilities. Cottage Park Yacht Club holds two world championships titles: 1963 Star World Championship, won by Joe Duplin and Francis Dolan, and the 2007 Snipe World Championship, won by Tomas Hornos and Enrique Quintero. Cottage Park Yacht Club also hosted the Snipe North American Championship in 1999, 2008 and 2014, and the Western Hemisphere and Orient Championship in 2021.
