Brunswick to Establish Brazil Plant

Brunswick Corporation will establish a manufacturing plant in Brazil to produce boats for South America's largest country and the surrounding region, the company said today in a release. The plant, which is to be located in the Perini Industrial Park in Joinville, Santa Catarina, Brazil, is planned to have nearly 150,000 square feet of manufacturing space and will eventually employ up to 150 people to produce several Bayliner and Sea Ray sport boats and cruisers, which will be sold through a network of local dealers along with other Brunswick boat brands and models. Brunswick plans to have locally manufactured product available in advance of the 2012 summer boating season. When in full operation, the plant will have the capacity to produce more than 400 boats annually. Brunswick anticipates it will begin hiring to staff its Brazilian operations within the next 30 days and will meet with its dealer base in the next few days.

Cigarette Hits the Loto

Cigarette and its fans enjoyed a busy weekend of powerboating on inland lakes while much of the eastern seaboard was pummeled by Tropical Storm Irene. Two major annual events were fortunate to draw large crowds and many Cigarette enthusiasts for some of the best performance boating of the 2011 summer season. The Lake of the Ozarks Shootout provided entertainment to all who attended to see new speed records set in 2011, but it also provided great entertainment to Aldo Waters who took delivery of his new 39' Top Fish Open at the event. While this is his first Cigarette, Waters was "wowed" by this new 2012 center console model. Its Ferrari paint scheme of "Daytona Nero" accented with "Corsa Rosso" cut a striking silhouette on the Lake of the Ozarks. Down in Lake Lanier, Georgia, the third Castaways Bikini Contestants Get a Light from Cigarette annual Pirates of Lanier Castaways Poker Run brought together another group of enthusiastic powerboaters. Cigarette Racing Team's President and CEO Skip Braver and Pier 57's David Woods, Cigarette's dealer in Pickwick, Tennessee, hosted the Miss Castaways Bikini Contest at the high-tech and high-energy mobile party trailer that Pier 57 added to its fleet last year. Lake Lanier Islands and Sunset Cove was the host property for this event which was recently expanded and enhanced by Lanier World at Lake Lanier Islands, a rocking water park that kept powerboaters up to their ears in water-even after they got off their boats! Lanier Parners of North Georgia, a non-profit organization that benefits area children's charities, is assisted by a prestigious group of sponsors, this year, including Pier 57. The Poker Run and all of its activities create lasting memories for Camp Sunshine's children with cancer and Children of Fallen Soldiers-as well as for the boaters who came to support the causes. This year, a fifth stop was added to the north end of the lake, expanding the range and run and attracting more "heavy metal" as more and bigger boats attended, said John Woodruff, a new Board member for the organization.

Cigarette Makes a Stop to the Emerald Coast Poker Run

This Florida Panhandle tourism hot spot is known for its pristine white beaches and emerald green Gulf waters. The multi-day event is a fund raiser for The Emerald Coast Foundation which serves many area children's charities. A feature of the event is a multi-stop Poker Run, organized by The Florida Powerboat Club at which Pier 57 and Cigarette Racing Team will be up-front and center. Laird is also owner of AJ's Seafood & Oyster Bar, a 26-year institution in the center of the Panhandle, and good friend of David Woods, owner of Pier 57, Cigarette Racing Team's dealer from Pickwick, Tennessee. Woods has been a sponsor of the major powerboating event for over a decade and looks forward to the run as an opportunity to showcase his newest powerboats and socialize with his customers. On the run Pier 57 showed a new 39 Top Gun Unlimited with twin Mercury Racing 700 engines and a 39 Top Fish Open with twin Mercury 300 Verados, both models being among the most popular of the Cigarette Racing Team current line. The Emerald Coast Poker Run features a Captains' Party at AJ's on Friday night, August 12, a main event of the Run which takes place on Saturday, August 13. The weekend-long boat show is also staged at the AJ's dock. The lP Casino in Biloxi is the main sponsor along with Miller Lite, Pier 57 and a number of other key location and media supporters. A Ford F-150 truck, provided by Gary Smith Ford is the grand prize for the Poker Run. The Florida Powerboat Club's Stu Jones announced over 100 boats pre-registered by the end of July and approximately 200 powerboats are expected, filled with fun-seeking participants who add to the Emerald Coast Foundation's coffers.

Cigarette Lip-Ship Performance

Phil Lipschutz lives, eats and breathes Cigarette, and has for over 30 years. His new website, lipship.com, tells the story of his entrée into powerboat racing and how it shaped his life-long career. A collection of videos brings the dealer to life with interviews and historic shots of his early days in racing, and then adds excitement to the boat line-up by showing the beauty and grace of the Cigarette powerboats in action. The website is a pictorial primer on all the models in the Cigarette Racing Team Line, as well as a full picture tour of the boats offered for sale through the dealership. A Boutique of some standard Cigarette gear also offers some proprietary Lip-Ship Performance apparel for customers who enjoy being a part of his network of performance boaters. The Parts library shows the basic replacement parts for routine maintenance and the News page keeps viewers up-to-date on Lip-Ship's customers, their boats and their onboard journeys.

Invitations to view the 58 Targa Gran Turismo will be given to boat owners at scheduled stopovers with some surprise visits to various bays and harbours en-route. The scheduled stopovers included Alicante and Dénia, Ibiza town, Puerto Portals, Cala D’or, Puerto de Pollensa, before heading to Mahon in Menorca, Cannes, Antibes, Nice, Monaco, San Remo and onto Portofino.

Formula Photo Shoot

Formula boats recently took a crew of 22 members to the beautiful island of Bimini in the Bahamas for the upcoming Model Year 2012 season, and it was a complete success! Although the temperatures were scorching hot each day, it was hard to complain when looking at that gorgeous turquoise blue ocean and the sun glimmering off the Formula hullside—it makes you sit back and just say “wow!” The boats photographed this year were the luxurious 45 Yacht with Sapphire Blue Metallic Imron Designer Graphic, the 40 Performance Cruiser in Black Onyx Metallic Imron, the 400 Super Sport in Black Onyx Metallic Imron, the 350 Sun Sport in Morning Sand Metallic Imron with Tropical Red accents and the all-new sporty 310 FX5 in Black Onyx Metallic Imron with FX accents throughout. The boats performed and looked amazing each and every day on the gorgeous Bimini blue water.

Fountain Captures Master Angler

“The A-Team,” a professional angling team aboard a 38’ high performance Fountain center console fishing boat, took “Master Angler” honors at a fishing tournament certified by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest. A record-breaking crowd of 2,200 participants flocked to Dauphin Island, Alabama, to compete in the 2011 Annual Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo held July 15-17. By the end of the tournament, 1,992 anglers had checked in at the weigh station, and the Fountain Powerboats “A-Team” had taken the very top prize. Fishing around the clock with minimal sleep, “The A-Team” crew of Alden Thornton, Chris Bazor, Carl Carder, Zack Seals, and Elliot Cain were forced to contend with some of the worst weather in the history of the 78-year tournament as they chased down the winning fish. Meanwhile, Bobby Wade, another angler fishing from a Fountain 38’ center console, weighed a 25.75-pound dolphin to take second place in the Dolphin category.

Mulder Holland Yacht Experience

A select group of Dutch yacht builders and related companies have joined forces in the new Holland Yacht Experience concept. Their goal is to bring the supreme quality offered by the Dutch yachting industry to the attention of a broader audience via joint promotion and representation on the French Côte d’Azur. Mulder Shipyard, along four other renowned family businesses created this new intiative. All the Holland Yacht Experience participants have a long history and a strong focus on continuity within their specific field of expertise. By pooling their resources, the partners offer owners and their representatives a platform that emphasises a diverse offer of yachts and a broad range of services. The recent economic situation has caused a shift in the market, leading to higher demands for yachts that combine high-quality construction, durability and steady value with a strong focus on service and after sales. The companies participating in Holland Yacht Experience have all built their success on precisely these qualities. The concept offers the participating members a base and office facilities on the internationally celebrated main boulevard of Cannes, La Croisette, in the redeveloped harbour of Port Canto. This allows the companies to profile themselves to potential customers in a professional way from a top location on the French Côte d’Azur throughout the year. Visitors to the centre can access detailed information on the products, services and rich history of the member companies. In addition to acquiring information, visitors to the Holland Yacht Experience Centre can acquire a quality yacht, have their boat refitted, order maintenance activities, put their yacht on the market or request a berth, all under one roof and in an accessible way. This makes the Holland Yacht Experience Centre a powerful venture that guarantees carefree sailing pleasure.

Nordhavn North East Open House

The 6th annual Nordhavn Yachts Northeast Open House last week was a great success led by a terrific line-up of yachts and an impressive turnout of Nordhavn prospects. The weather gods smiled down upon us last Friday, July 15th, as we managed to somehow designate the seemingly one humidity-free, sub-90s degree day in the month of July in New England for which to invite Nordhavn clients to inspect our Nordhavn 43, 47, 55 and 64. PAE staff, including company president Dan Streech, and Nordhavn owners alike, assisted attendees as they walked through the boats lined up at the docks situated in front of our Northeast office in Portsmouth, Rhode Island, and picked up information and some nifty giveaways thanks to sponsor Pantaeinuys Insurance. Guests were also treated to a replica Nordhavn 75 Expedition Yacht Fisher put together by Fred Heim, a pro model builder and fan of Nordhavns. Although we decided not to launch the boat, the scaled down remote-control EYF powers beautifully through the water (just like the real thing!) and comes complete with actual working thrusters and stabilizerrs.

Riviera CEO Announces Retirement

On 11 August John Anderson the Chief Executive Officer of Riviera, Australia’s largest and most awarded luxury boat builder announced to the company’s 400 strong staff his plans to retire and return to the United States in September.

Riviera Exports Defy Industry Trends

Riviera, Australia’s largest and most awarded pleasure boat builder continues to export defying industry trends with its latest shipment of 10 new boats with a retail value of USD$12.3 million, shrink wrapped in heavy duty plastic and ready for shipping next week to varying ports around the globe. Riviera will export one 4400 Series II Sport Yacht, two 5000 Sport Yachts, two 38 Open Flybridges, two 43 Open Flybridges, one 51 Enclosed Flybridge, one 53 Enclosed Flybridge and one 61 Open Flbyridge to Riviera’s global dealers based in Miami, Puerto Rico, Panama, Sarasota on the west coast of Florida, Seattle and the Seychelles. All boats are retail sold to owners. This achievement is certainly no mean feat given the current economic climate, the strong Australian dollar, lack of government support for the wider manufacturing sector and fierce global competition. Riviera’s brand and communications manager Stephen Milne said the new 53 Enclosed Flybridge was bound for Florida and the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show in late October where it would be showcased for the first time in the United States. Riviera’s chief financial officer Neal McCulloch said it had been a difficult time for Australian manufacturing and export over the past few years as a result of the economic landscape and more recently the high Australian dollar. Mr Milne said Riviera’s export sales had grown over the past two years with EU$6.3 million in exports to Spain and France and a further USD$4.1 million to Russia, USA and Turkey in the past six months. This latest shipment of 10 boats leaving the Riviera factory next week bound for the Port of Brisbane and Port Botany in Sydney to be loaded onto ships as deck cargo and shipped to their final destinations.

Riviera Dealer Awards

Innovation and creativity in these challenging times has earned R Marine New Zealand, Riviera’s most esteemed Dealership of the Year award. The annual Australia/New Zealand Dealer of the Year awards recognise excellence, outstanding achievement and dedication to Riviera’s loyal owners and brand. Dealers are judged on their ability both to service Riviera customer needs and boats, conduct client events and professional representation of the brand, overall boat sales both of new and pre-owned Rivieras, co-operation with the factory’s business guidelines, ethics and communication with dealer support services, dealership presentation and customer satisfaction. The annual Dealer Awards have been running consistently for the past 17 years. R Marine New Zealand dealer principal Bruce McGill said winning the Dealership of the Year Award would not have been possible without the tremendous effort put in by each and every member of the 18 strong team. Riviera director of brand and communication Stephen Milne said it was pleasing to see a high level of passion and strong sales results in these challenging times.  R Marine Queensland’s service technician Sharm Brown was awarded this year’s award for Service Excellence by an individual in Australia/New Zealand for his dedication and exceptional customer service. Sharm has spent a lifetime in the marine industry, having worked with his father who owned the slipway at Runaway Bay Marina before gaining his skippers ticket in the mid 90s. Sharm has worked on vessels as large as 50 metres and has also owned his own commercial crabbing vessel. Sharm said he enjoyed working for Riviera and he was thrilled to receive the award. R Marine Sydney was recognised for its outstanding sales success with the highest number of boats sold in the region during the past 12 months and dealer principal Michael Joyce was presented with the award for Sales Excellence by a dealership in Australia/New Zealand. R Marine Sydney dealer principal Michael Joyce said it was an honour for his dealership to receive these awards. Peter Devery began his career in the marine industry 13 years ago and prior to that he completed an apprenticeship in the Air Force where he fitted guns and missiles to air craft. Peter said he was proud to be working with Riviera, a world class brand.

Riviera Mystery Weekend

The first clue was a horse shoe, which led Riviera owners Jan and Peter Barr to their mystery anchorage at Horseshoe Bay, Peel Island, which is located in Moreton Bay, east of Brisbane. On board their new 43 Open Flybridge, Sequel, Jan and Peter made the 30 nautical mile journey from the Gold Coast to Peel Island with a fleet of 18 Rivieras ranging in size from 36 to 56 feet for a mystery weekend over the 8th, 9th and 10th of July. After dropping anchor at Horseshoe Bay, Jan and Peter joined 42 fellow Riviera owners on the beach for drinks and hors d’oeuvres where they were given their next clue for the following day’s adventure, which was a tour of the leper colony on Peel Island. Peel Island’s history dates back to the early European settlement in the 1800s when it was used as a quarantine station for new settlers. In the early 19th century to as recently as 1959, Peel Island was a hospice for people suffering from leprosy, which is a chronic disease causing skin lesions and deformities and in 2007 the island became a National Park. Jan said the story of the leper colony was ‘enlightening’. For M360 Sport Cruiser owners Graham and Ann Belby, this was their first R Marine Queensland Experience. Graham said they also enjoyed meeting other Riviera owners and people with whom they had so much in common.

Sunseeker Summer Cruise in Mallorca

The ingredients to making yachting fun include excellent logistical organisation, a carefree high-spirited atmosphere and a social get-together with like-minded Sunseeker friends. This year's popular summer cruise, a permanent fixture in the Sunseeker Germany event calendar, was once again a real success this year. On the 29th to 31st July 2011, a total of 92 Sunseeker clients and friends enjoyed the flotilla of yachts to the Balearic Islands, Formentera and Ibiza. This year's theme incorporated a 'Sunseeker Pirates Cruise', and provided the ultimate pirate experience on water whilst revealing event details via messages in bottles. On the evening prior to the great departure, guests arrived at Port Adriano and got to know one another over cocktails and a barbecue.  On Friday morning, the party of 24 yachts set off in two arrow-shaped groups each with 12 yachts in the direction of Cala Llonga on the east coast of Ibiza for a first stop. Following a lunch break, the cruise headed towards Formentera, the most unspoilt of all the Balearic Islands and famous for its stunning sandy beaches. Many guests took the opportunity to cool off in the crystal clear waters and took the time to relax. An unforgettable image was the impressive sight of the motoryachts anchored in front of the restaurant Juan y Andrea, while the Sunseeker party feasted on delicious seafood specialties. The following day, the flotilla set course for Ibiza and Cala Bassa. Here, fun and games awaited guests in the Cala Bassa Beach Club. Using the ever popular Seabob, the water babies cruised around the beautiful bay and sea, both above and below the water. The flotilla moved on to S'illa des Bosc and anchored there to enjoy the delicacies of the Island later in the day. Stopping for a swim in the enchanting small bay of Cala Benirras, provided the perfect ending to the three day Sunseeker Summer Cruise, along with many happy memories to take home. The Sunseeker Germany team were on hand throughout to assist with any questions and to help guests drop anchor at all times.

Sunseeker Baltic Cruise 2011

Following many requests from Baltic Sea customers, the Sunseeker Germany team arranged a second joint cruise from 6th to 7th August 2011. To ensure clients felt welcome, all guests arrived at the Sunseeker pier at the marina in Neustadt (Germany) on the evening before the great departure, and got to know one another over cocktails and a delicious barbecue. The picturesque sunset provided the perfect start to the event. On Saturday morning, eight motoryachts set course for Poel Island, where in the idyllic marina of Kirchdorf, all 23 attendees enjoyed freshly smoked fish. The flotilla first set off in the direction of Wismar, passing by Europe's largest shipbuilding hall followed by the city marina of Wismar, before the marina of the Baltic Sea resort of Kühlungsborn was reached around late afternoon. Many heads turned when stunning Sunseeker motoryachts arrived at the marina and docked along the North pier, which was exclusively reserved for Sunseeker. The day was perfectly rounded off with a pleasant dinner where guests enjoyed a stunning view across the marina and of the display of Sunseeker yachts. Sunday morning saw the Sunseeker crew organise a VIP shuttle to the five-star Grand Hotel in Heiligendamm where breakfast was served, followed by a guided tour of the luxury hotel. Experiencing yachting together was very well received by all attendees. The Sunseeker Baltic Cruise is certain to be a permanent date in the Baltic Sea's event calendar for the future.

Project: Galeon 420 HTC

Galeon presents the project of the 420 HTC, which shares hull with another currently in construction model the soon to come 400 Fly.  From a technical point this latest Galeon hard top sport cruiser project designed again by Tony Castro represents one of its most innovative model which comes in the form of a sliding aft deck settee which can module as to one needs.  From a sun lounger to a dinette. But as the Polish builder has showed in the last years the 420 HTC has other innovations, which comes also in the patio door which opens all to join the interior main deck with the exterior aft cockpit.  The hard top also extends on the aft deck and this opens all up, this being also seen on the 700 Raptor.  The 420 HTC also follows latest design instincts and offers a full living on the main deck, in a split level saloon which offers on entrance a C-shaped sofa, opposite settee, and on the raised area galley and helm station to starboard.  The glass hard top in this area also opens for about half of the roof, which makes the HTC become a very open boat.  Down below is space for a standard plan with three cabins, and two heads, and owners room to fore. A two cabin layout with what I imagine a large full beam cabin will also be available.  Power will be from twin 220 up to 435hp engines in various propulsion choices of stern drive, pods, and shaft line.

New Model: Intermarine 42

Intermarine continues it's expansion plan and this new 42  represents the entry level of its seven model line up which goes up to 85 feet.  The 42 is a design by Luiz De Basto who is so far the major contributor of the new Intermarine course, being also responsible for the lines of the 65, 75, and 85 models.  The other designers of Intermarine new route are Fernando de Almeida 53 and 60, and BMW Group DesignWorks USA with the 55. Here again we see the European influence in the exterior looks, with a touch of Brazilian practicality coming in various areas; a much larger to the usual aft deck, crew cabin aft, and a gourmet center with grill, sink and cutting board.  The crew cabin is surely a hard to find feature in a flybridge motor cruiser of this size.  The interior layout of the 42 follows a classical layout of living on the main deck with C-shaped sofa and opposite settee, galley below, and two double guest cabins below.  The owners room with a large head and separate shower box to port side is located to fore. A double guest cabin is featured to starboard, this one having a large view window with opening port hole and two single berths, which if desired slide to become a double VIP french style berth.  A guest shower head completes the accommodation layout.  The exterior of the Intermarine 42 also impresses for its large flybridge; with C-shaped settee and sunpad, hydraulic up down moving bathing platform, and a gangway located to starboard.  Another impressive feature of the 42 is also the front windshield which just as the big 75 features no mullions at its center and improves visibility from the lower helm. Power is from twin Volvo 435hp engines with traditional reliable shaft propulsion which give a 31 knots top speed.
Technical Data:
LOA - 13.7 m (44.9ft) with pulpit
Hull Length - 13.4 m
Beam - 4.15 m
Draft - 1.15 m
Displacement - 13.5 t unloaded, 16.5 t loaded
Fuel Capacity - 1100 l
Water Capacity - 500 l
Accommodation - 4 + 2 guest berths, 1 crew cabin aft
Max Persons - 14
Engines - 2 x Volvo D6 435hp
Propulsion - line shaft
Speed - 31 knots max, 27 knots cruise

Project: Itama 45

Itama presents its new project of the 45 model.  Based on the hull lines of the Forty launched in the fall of 2005, the model which started the new course of the Ferretti Group ownership since Itama was purchased from Bulgari in 2004, and put Rome designer Marco Casali responsible for the design of the famous Italian opens.  The new 45 as outlined by Casali and Ferretti Group Advanced Yacht Technology features new elements in the technical department and some design touches which represent a change for the very traditional looking Itama's.  This as the above modified rendering shows, will be in the 45 what is the first Itama to have a sweeping stern.  It will be interesting to see how the Itama purist takes this change which still look traditional.  Other changes are a larger and hydraulic up and down moving bathing platform, new large windows on the hull sides, and invisible telescopic gang way under the port side located transom door.  The accommodation plan is the same as for the Forty featuring a choice of a single or twin cabins, sleeping from two to six people including the convertible dinette.  But a change in the bathroom which has been rotated to ninety degrees can be found, this giving more space.  Power will be from twin Cummins 480hp in line shafts.

Powerboat OGP - Siracusa, Sicily Preview

For the third consecutive year Syracuse is in the calendar of the Powerboat Endurance calendar, and this today represents one of the most important fixtures of the season.  Syracuse or Siracusa in Italian is one of the most picturesque harbours of the Med, with the classic medieval age Fort on the entrance welcoming you inside one of the largest natural harbours in the World.
This year Syracuse is the second stop of the season, and this will be a novelty which has in its previous been the closing round of the World championship calendar.  The leaders in both classes; 2B1 Furnibo #33 Evolution, and Jolly Drive Racing Team #06 in Super Sport will have to watch there back as the competitors will make sure to use the trap of a calmer inside, with that of a more turbulent waters outside area part of the track.  For this season Powerboat OGP will also deliver for the first time three round races in a Grand Prix, and Syracuse for this will offer more racing to the fans, and to the racers themselves. The races will be held one each day from Friday, with the Power Pole moved to earlier hours in the afternoon.

Improve-it = Fipa Maiora 27

Fipa Maiora launches another of the very successful 27 series, which has some important differences to other previously launched sister yachts.  Called Antharah this latest 27, which was launched in mid July easily noticeable difference is the large glued view window on the center of the lower deck, this serving owner and VIP staterooms.  This again being another novelty with both VIP and owners suite located to midships, and also served by a separate stairs from the saloon.  The other two guest cabins located to fore are served by a stairs from the wheelhouse.  Another novelty is the movable partition in the dining room located in the saloon this separating the place from all other areas.  As all launched 27 models Antharah is a custom built, a must of any Maiora which since its foundation has always distinct itself for launching yachts to owners request, and a high level of customisation.   This latest Maiora 27 is powered by twin MTU 1935hp engines, which give a 29 knots top speed.  But bigger engine options up to twin 2600hp MTU are available for the 27 and for those desiring more speed.

Jet Tern continue to upgrade the size of the Selene range and present the project of the 128 Ocean Trawler.  The new Jet Tern flagship is the result of an international collaboration of designers and architects under Howard Chen's design team leadership. Howard Chen has worked closely again with renowned Dutch designer Guido De Groot and a group of International consultants to develop a contemporary take on a long range yacht whilst capitalizing on Jet Tern construction reputation for experience in the displacement type hulls.  Like the currently in construction 92, the 128 is also a design by De Groot, the third for the China based builder.by the Dutch architect.  The main difference of the 36 feet longer new flagship 128, is that it is a a triple deck displacement super yacht with a sundeck on top. Built all in fiberglass as the smaller sisters the 128 Ocean Trawler also sports the more modern look of all the Selene's with a sharp angled bow, giving her together with her round surfaces and stylish feature lines on the side more sleekness. The Selene 128 Ocean Trawler will offer a five guest cabins accommodation located in the lower deck with two guest and VIP cabins all featuring en-suite heads, and an owners state room located in the front-part of the main deck featuring a bath, large shower area and a fantastic view through the large windows in the hull.. The crew area is located in the bow of the yacht, and has got space for ten persons. In the stern of the lower deck there is a technical space and a special area for diving gear.  This area is connected to a very large swimming platform. The spacious main salon is located on the main deck and is directly connected to the aft deck. The round dining table provides space for twelve persons. The galley is situated in the middle of the main deck. The bridge third deck has a luxurious full beam lounge with a bar, pantry and comfortable U-couch.  The captains cabin is also located on the bridge and has direct entrance to the helm and the yachts office. As on every Selene, the Portuguese bridge leads to the bow, where the foredeck lounge is situated with a large U-couch and a sunbed area.  The Selene 128 Ocean Trawler is certified by ABS and MCA requirements for yachts, creating a solid platform for enjoying remote destinations with family and friends.

Project: Princess V39

Princess return to sub forty feet size in a period just short to ten years, with the project of the V39.  This latest project is significant seeing other British builders giving again great consideration to this size.  May be the sales of over two hundred units in less to two years of a certain British builder owned by a US firm had a say in all this interest. The latest Princess under the forty feet mark was the not so successful 38 with flybridge produced from 1999 till 2003.  A previous V39 was produced from 1994 till 96 before the model get modified aft with bathing platform extension and became the good selling V40 proudced in its Mark One version for ten years. The V39 follows latest trends of a hard top sport cruiser with a two cabins with single head lower deck plan.  Plans are not shown although I do imagine a very traditional plan below with owners room to fore, and aft guest cabin to midships, with a galley and saloon in between. The exterior will offer as Princess say plenty of seating and a wet bar.  No open version will available and the roof will be a soft material offer.  Standard power is from twin not small Volvo 330hp with stern drive propulsion.

New Model: Mulder 1500 Favorite

Mulder continue to steam ahead and launch the second model of its traditional down East lobster looking Favorite range and after putting into the water two units of the 1400, follow this by putting the first example of the little bit larger 1500.  The first unit of the 1500 Favorite designed by Guido de Groot and Mulder shipyard, and built in all alloy with the Vripack technique is a white colored hull model.  In the 1500 Favorite which has the same beam and draft as the one meter smaller 1400, an owner gains a back looking L-shaped settee in the aft deck,  larger galley which unusually is in front and under the helm station to starboard, and a second guest shower head.  Accommodation is again for two cabins; with owners room to fore, and a guest cabin to starboard.  Hull for the 1500 as in all the Favorite models, and some other Mulder's is the choice of a semi displacement round bilge, or a more planning hard chine shape.  Hull one of Mulder's 1500 Favorite was a round bilge hull shape with twin Volvo 330hp engines. Power options is for four choices in the shaft propelled round bilge hull from twin Volvo's 150 to 435hp, and a single choice twin 435hp and IPS pods in planning hard chine shape.

Project: Monte Carlo Yachts MCY65

Beneteau Group's Monte Carlo Yachts gets into second gear and presents its model number two by appearance with the project of the MCY65.  This new Monte Carlo is again a design of Nuvolari Lenard and is set to be presented in Cannes, and features the same innovative elements as found on the first model of the range the MCY76.  The MCY65 is a three cabins motor yacht, with an owners stateroom to midships, VIP suite to fore, and two single berths guest cabin also with private shower head to starboard.  A crew cabin for two is located to aft, with entrance on the bathing platform and from here another access to the engine room. The living main deck is a split level area with latest design elements as an astern galley and fully opening patio door, which makes it become a single part with the aft cockpit.  The flybridge is a cozy place, and is covered for most part by the carbon made opening T-top and features a C-shaped dinette, lounger to port side by the helm station located to port.  Impressive for the MCY65 is the weight of only 33 tons loaded which is among the lightest for a boat measuring over all 64 feet.  Power is from latest generation twin MAN 1000hp which should give a top speed of 31 knots, and a cruise of 27.  Propulsion has so far not been advised, so I am curious if it will have ZF pods as the MCY76 or traditional shafts.

Project: Cranchi 58 Fly

The fourth upcoming project to come for 2011 from the Cranchi stable is the 58 Fly, which is also model number four to join the Yacht Class line since this was presented officially two years ago with the Sixty 4 HT.  Just as other Cranchi's the 58 Fly shares hull lines with another model, in this case the fall 2010 launched Fifty 6 Soft Top, but a total different use of space is to be found, especially to what regards the lower deck.  For a boat this size and with IPS pods the 58 Fly accommodation plan is surely one of the most spacious, and which has made the best use of the 2005 launched propulsion system.  Not just because of the three cabins but what each of these offer.  For example both the owners stateroom to midships, and VIP suite located to fore offer a walk in ward robe solution, and this is done without sacrificing any space from the third cabin which still has two single parallel beds.  Surely unheard for a boat this size especially considering the space the owners room to mid ship with breakfast dinette to port by the view window offers. An optional crew cabin located to port side with a separate entrance from the aft deck is also available.  The main deck is also modern in its solution with an astern galley, L-shaped sofa, raised L-shaped dinette, and central single seat helm station.  The flybridge is also well sized offering the today much used layout of C-shaped settee to aft, wet bar with grill, sun pad to fore, and helm station to starboard.  Tender stowage is to be on an up and down hydraulic bathing platform.  Power is from twin Volvo 600 or optional 700hp with IPS pod drive.  Estimated speeds are a max of 34 and a cruise of 26 knots with the bigger 700hp choice.

Project: Colombo 39 Alldays

Colombo presents the project of the 39 Alldays, which is a restyling of the 37 dedicated to US market requests.  This 39 version is more young looking and abandons the classic contrasts of the original 37 Alldays, with the mahogany friezes disappearing and give way to metallic dark finishes that match the light grey colour of the side and the stern.  Furniture, textiles, accessories, express modernity, to conquer foreign markets with typical Italian style.  The 39 Alldays just as all the new Colombo since the Sarnico Group take over is a project of Brunello Acampora of Victory Design for the hull, and Nuvolari Lenard for the lines. The 39 Alldays just as the smaller 37 offers the layout plan which gives a high level of comforts with a living on the main deck, spacious aft cockpit, and lower deck sleeping five adults in two cabins below.  Power is from twin Volvo from 300 up to 370hp with IPS pod propulsion.

Project: Absolute 53 STY

Absolute has decided to make 2011 one of its most prolific years, and after presenting two new projects with the 40 model in Fly and STY versions, follows it with the 53 STY.  This model is in my understanding a replacement of the 2007 launched 52, although Absolute has so far not confirmed this.  The 53 STY is based on the hull and lines of the 2010 launched 50 Fly model, and continues this young, prolific and successful Italian builder faith in Volvo IPS pod propulsion.  A system which powers all of its model minus the entry level 40 STC. The 53 STY which mean Sport Yacht, is a three cabin boat which can be fully open, or enclosed with patio doors and sunroof making it a boat for all seasons. Cozy in Winter, open for air in Summer.  The living of the 53 STY minus the galley is located on the main deck, with the exterior also featuring an aft sun pad, and C-shaped dinette.  Down below is three guest cabins, galley, and a crew cabin to aft.  Owners stateroom is to fore, with a VIP cabin located to starboard side with a private entrance to the guests head.  Power is a choice to twin or triple Volvo 435hp engines.

New Model: Bavaria 43 SportHT

Bavaria continue to update its sport cruiser line, and as it has done in recent years presents the 43 SportHT, the hard top version of 43 Sport model.  Designed by BMW Group DesignworksUSA the 43 SportHT has basically the clever laid plan of the normal open Sport version both above and below decks, and can sleep from six in two cabins, or eight persons in the three cabin optional choice layout.  The cockpit of the 43 is huge, offering an extended bathing platform, aft sun pad, C-shaped dinette, L-shaped settee all to port, and helm with a galley and wet bar behind it to starboard.  This area is up to the dinette covered by the hard top which can nearly all open up.  This makes the 43 SportHT become a very open boat, with the benefits of quick closing the hard top offers.  There is as the standard open version three engine options for the Bavaria 43 SportHT, but I think the gasoline standard power of twin Mercruiser 430hp is very misleading for a boat which has thirteen meters of length and has as its vocation to cruise.
Technical Data:
LOA - 13.83 m (45.3ft)
Hull Length - 13.22 m
Beam - 4.41 m

Displacement - 11750 kg unloaded
Fuel Capacity - 1500 l
Water Capacity - 410 l
Accommodation - 4 berths in 2 cabins, 6 berths in 3 cabins

Project: Azimut 62S Italia

Azimut presents the project of the 62S Italia, what is a further development of the 62S model with bigger engines, and modified interior and exterior.  The 62S Italia as Azimut's press release says gets closer to the 72S model in some features and more so in the interior, being now finished with Zebrawood, instead of Wenge.  The hard top of the 62 S Italia gets also a new look now having two glasses which are also curved and feature an Anti-UV film.   The crew cabin of the 62 S Italia is expanded having two berths, and the standard plan of the guest rooms will have three cabins as standard.  The galley of the 62S Italia has also been modified and can now be separated from other areas thanks to the sliding doors. The 62S Italia will also feature a new innovation from the Azimut Benetti Group called the Bird's Eye View, what is a system of three docking cameras that reconstruct the boat’s image in real time with respect to the dock and the other craft, merging the sources into a single view, which will make it possible to execute maneuvers with great precision.  The 62S Italia will also be powered with twin MTU 1150hp here having a total of 270 more horses versus the previous 62S, which will give a top speed of 37 knots.  Surprisingly there is no mention so far if a ZF4000 pod option will be available for this new version.  Considering that the 62S was used as Research and Design for the new big ZF pods I did accept this new 62S version to have them as standard.  So far Azimut seems not much a big fan of pod drives using them in only two models; 43S and Atlantis 50x4.

Project: Sessa 34 Key Largo Inboard

Sessa presents the 34 Key Largo, what is a step into the future from the Italian builder and its well known  center console line up.  This model is to be available in inboard as rendering above, or with outboard version which has just been launched. But the 34 Key Largo moves the barrier and challenges what we have seen coming from other builders with some innovative features, offering an accommodation and well thought out layout which looks to other more cruiser orientated customers.  For the 34 Key Largo, Sessa has pulled out all it has in terms of studies, development and quality: 1500 computer files, 200 m² resin parts modelled with the 3D moulding machine and more than 300 different components that make up the boat.  The 34 Key Largo is a center console but also a cabin boat which offers a ten centimeters short of two meters head room below.  The layout here can sleep four in two areas; convertible V-shaped settee which becomes a double bed to fore, twin berth to midships under the stairs, galley, and separate shower head.  The cockpit deck offers an all the boat living area; center helm, wet bar, sun lounger to fore, L-shaped settee, and a sunpad aft which in only available in the inboard version. An optional rigid T-Top with electric bimini which covers the cockpit is also available.  The Sessa 34 Key Largo power is in its stern drive inboard version twin Volvo petrol 320hp or 220hp Diesel engines.  The outboard version is powered by twin Yamaha 300hp and can reach top speeds up to 45 knots.

Engine: Volvo D6-400 400hp

Volvo Penta invented the high-performance diesel sterndrive in 1977 and has been the undisputed market leader in this constantly expanding segment ever since. The latest addition confirms this position: a 400 hp version of the D6 engine, matched with a refined DPH Duoprop drive which equals to be the current world’s most powerful diesel sterndrive.  Back in 1977, the high performance diesel sterndrive was launched in the form of Volvo Penta’s D40 with single prop drive. A mere 125 hp powered boats such as the Sunseeker 23 DC. The launch of Duoprop and the compressor concept quickly made Volvo Penta the first choice for diesel sport performance.  The D6-400 engine is based on the proven design of the IPS600 engine. Compared to the current D6-370, the 400-version has supercharging with a larger turbo and a tuned mechanical compressor. The charge air cooler has increased capacity to handle the increased flow, and the cooling system has a new heat exchanger and improved oil cooling. The combustion chamber features modified design, a new valve position and increased capacity injectors. The efficient combustion leads to low overall emissions.  Torque is also important in the new D6-400 and this is where the Volvo Penta compressor concept excels by producing charge air, and thereby a massive torque directly from low rpms. The D6-370 is today unmatched and the new D6-400 is 10 % better. Already at 2000 rpm it reaches its maximum torque of 970 Nm – enough to produce safe and fast acceleration onto the plane for great driving enjoyment.  Another Volvo Penta specialty is to develop engine, drive and propellers as a package, rather than separate components. This is essential to transform the torque and power to acceleration, top speed and driving pleasure. The DPH Duoprop drive was introduced in 2003 as the strongest and most efficient sterndrive ever. To handle the D6-400 while still maintaining a slim and efficient underwater body, Volvo Penta developed new technology.  The upper unit comes with a new bearing box with a new roller bearing, a reinforced suspension fork and redesigned gear geometry. The lower unit features gear with geometry developed by Volvo Penta and made from unique super-high tensile steel with efficient lubrication. Lubrication has also been redesigned to ensure that the drive can handle the tremendous forces with high reliability.

Project: Sunseeker 53 Manhattan

Sunseeker presents the project of the 53 Manhattan, what is a further development and replacement of the 52 model.  A difference of larger windows both on the top and lower decks shows on the outside of this new project.  The lower deck for examples replaces the three vertical windows, with a large glassed surface as found on the latest Sunseeker models.  But differences are found in nearly all areas; from the aft deck now available in two options; sunpad or small sunpad and settee, and the third guest cabin now having two in line berths in replacement to bunks, larger owners stateroom with berth being in the center and looking to aft, and a split level saloon with a C-shaped dinette to port side on the raised area by the helm.

New Model: Jet Tern 63 Apollo

After making a good name with the Selene trawler explorer cruisers and yachts range, and following this with the Artemis modern planning boat line in 2010, Jet Tern takes another challenge to the Power Catamaran and presents the 63 Apollo model.  For this new challenge Jet Tern hired important French names for the design of its first catamaran, and the results has been good seeing that hull two is under construction, and a smaller Apollo is at the moment in the tooling department. The 63 Apollo a name which represents the Greek God of the Sun, is a three cabin Power Catamaran, and surprises for having the owner stateroom located on the main deck, and in the centre part of the boat.  This apart giving extra comfort is unusual in a yacht of nineteen meters even in a catamaran.  The two other guest suites are to be found one in each hull, and both offer circle shaped large view windows.  An extra optional fourth double cabin is available on request.  Living space is impressive and thanks to the eight meters plus of beam the 63 Apollo offers 145 squared meters of space, this being divided with a galley located behind to starboard of the central helm, and lounge sofas found on the entrance of the main deck.  Power is from twin Cats 1010hp engines which give a top speed of 28 knots, and a cruise of 25, but a long range option of smaller 450hp Cats is also available.

Projects: Cranchi M 40, Cracnhi M 35, Cranchi 30 Endurance

After making the last two years concentrating on its new Yacht Class line which today features three models and goes up to 66 feet, Cranchi goes into the fall of 2011 in full attack to the sport cruiser market between the thirty and forty feet mark with three upcoming new projects set to launch in Cannes and Genoa.  This is a size which without a doubt showed Cranchi build a strong reputation for quality and reliable boats since the early nineties.  The first of the projects shown above is the M 40, which takes a lot from its exterior looks from the latest new model coming from Cranchi what is the 56 Soft Top. But the M 40 is a huge challenge which represents a size which have given a lot of growth to Cranchi, think models as the 40/41 Mediterranee, or 39 and 41 Endurance.  The M 40 has a lot of strong features from a very spacious aft cockpit deck with sun pad, C-shaped settee, a couple loungers, and dual seat helm station, to a spacious cabin area below.  This sleeps a total of six or seven, in two cabins plus a convertible dinette.  It also features two heads, and a very so far on plan spacious looking galley.  Power for what is an over all sport cruiser of 44 feet in length is from twin Volvo 300 or 330hp engines with dual prop stern drive propulsion.  Speed estimates for a boat weighing close to ten tons dry are of 33 knots max with the twin 330hp engines.
The M 35 is again a hard soft top sport cruiser from Cranchi.  In my thinking this model is the hard top version of the 36 Zaffiro, and  should replace the highly successful and still wanted over one thousand units delivered 34 Zaffiro.  The M 35 does in fact share hull shape from the 36 Zaffiro with an identical length and beam, with the same sleeping six in two cabins including the convertible dinette lower deck layout.  The main deck aft cockpit is still a split level area but has been redesigned with the entrance now moved to port instead of starboard as is the 36, and features an extra lounger and new style wet bar.  Power choices are the same to what the 36 Zaffiro offers from twin 260 to optional 300hp Volvo engines.  Top speed is a 34 knots max with twin 300hp engines.
The Cranchi 30 Endurance continues the legacy created in the eighties by what is a classic from the North East Italian boat builder the 31 Endurance.  With the 30 Endurance Cranchi joins the other Italian builders who think walk around style outside, and a comfortable cabin area below.  This brings a good compromise for a day boat, with good cabin space for a small family to cruise.  In fact the 30 Endurance sleeps four below in a convertible dinette, double berth at midships, and a separate shower head.  The galley is located outside, and a light material sunroof on top of the center helm is also available as optional.  A total of five Volvo engine choices are available in both petrol and diesel from a single 270, to twin 225hp.  Speed estimates are for 32 knots max with a single 320hp petrol engine.

Project: Cheoy Lee 46m Marco Polo II

Cheoy Lee continue to upgrade its Marco Polo Series, and present the second of the series what is a 46m  transocean super yacht designed by Ron Holland to explore the world's remote regions.  Marco Polo II continues the concept of hull one of the series what is a European quality built in China, typifying her builder's approach to modern fuel efficient green cruising.  Accommodation for the Cheoy Lee 46m Marco Polo II is a four or five double guests cabins, with an owners stateroom, apartment style located on the top deck.  The Marco Polo series features a seaworthy efficient hull with a bulbous bow. Her look is practical and purposeful and low maintenance silken finish suits her word girding role. The Cheoy Lee 46m Marco Polo II is to be powered by a single 1911hp Cat engine, with a spare wing 315hp jet propelled motor.  Top speed is a 14 knots max, 13 cruise, and an economic of 10 knots giving 6000 nm of range.
