Azimut Grande Arrives in Dominican Republic

On July 1 2011, the first Azimut Grande bound for the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean was delivered to its owner. Part of the Azimut Grande collection, the Azimut Grande 105’ is a planing boat which - together with the jewels of Benetti – makes up the mega yacht division of Azimut-Benetti. Launched from Miami, Florida, the yacht sailed over 1,000 nautical miles to reach its Caribbean destination of La Romana (the Dominican Republic). During the challenging crossing, both Azimut’s shipowner as well as the boat captain were impressed and enthusiastic about the yacht’s technical and navigational qualities. The owner and a select circle of guests were waiting at the destination to celebrate the official delivery, boat christening and launch ceremony. The party continued on board, giving the guests the opportunity to enjoy the spaces, layout and exquisite cherry finish decor which do full justice to the style that Caribbean yachting is known for. The Azimut Grande 105’ will remain in La Romana for just a few days before setting sail again for an inaugural cruise to the Virgin Islands.

Beneteau Group Nine Month Sales Up

During the first nine months of FY 2010-11, sales climbed +19% in relation to the same period the previous year. This improvement took the Group's sales up to €677.7 million, with its two businesses contributing towards this performance: The boat business recorded €488.9 million in sales, up 20.1% over the first nine months. This growth is in line with the target for the year, and confirms the strong penetration achieved by the Group's brands across all market segments. The housing business posted €95.4 million in sales for the third quarter, an increase of 12%, with sales for the first nine months up 16.2% to €188.8 million. This rate of growth over nine months, stronger than expected for the whole year (+12%), reflects the desire among professionals to have new models to help ensure a positive welcome for their customers as of spring. In light of sales generated during the period and the level of the order book, the Beneteau Group is able to confirm its initial sales forecast of €920 million for the year, up 18%. As the world's number-one sailboat builder - both mono- and multi-hull - the Beneteau Group has continued to develop its business on the powerboat market, and is now one of the leading players in Europe. Cigarette Toy of Summer

The Robb Report, Curtco Media's prestigious guide to life's finest tastes, noted the Cigarette 42X Ducati Edition, in the July magazine's third annual "Toys of Summer" issue. Titled "Offshore Thrilling" the article compared the Cigarette 42X on water to the Ducati Superbike on the racetrack--neither sacrificing style for speed. Last year, the Cigarette 39 Top Fish Open center console boat was also selected for the honor, showing the diversity and appeal of the Cigarette Racing Team's model lineup. The 42X Ducati Special Edition made its debut at the 2011 Miami International Boat Show, sporting a pair of Mercury Racing's newest 1100 HP engines. The engines, which run on regular pump gas and still easily reach triple digit speeds, are an innovation for the performance marine market. This introduction also marks the strategic alliance that Cigarette and Mercury Racing have enjoyed over the years as the iconic boat manufacturer has worked closely with the most recognized propulsion brand in powerboat history to validate its newest engine introductions. Adding Ducati this year to the marketing mix broadened Cigarette's performance partnership with AMG Mercedes. At last year's Miami International Boat Show, a new customized 46' Cigarette, labeled "Inspired by AMG" featured Mercury Racing's new 1350 top horse powered engines. While the custom-built 42X Edition featured Ducati brand red and white upholstery, paint and logo and was displayed with an array of new Ducati motorcycles, the boat was all Cigarette Racing Team in quality and design. A new top-performing, customized entertainment system by JL Audio, called "Pure," was also introduced, specifically engineered for Cigarette's cockpit and cabin configurations to deliver fine tonal quality in a challenging marine environment.

Cigarette Takes the Lead

When John Rosatti decided to get back to performance boating, he wanted to do it in a big way. Rosatti, a long-time powerboater who had gone from racing to yachting as he raised a family and built a car empire and yachting business, decided it was time to re-power his ride. He visited with Phil Lipschutz, at Lipship Performance, Cigarette Racing Team's Miami dealer, who used to take care of Rosatti's racing boats in the 1970's. That was when Rosatti owned a 35' Cigarette Mistress--Aronow's favorite, among other race boats. He took one look at the new 50' Cigarette Marauder at the Miami International Boat Show and was star-struck. Lipschutz introduced him to Fred Kiekaefer, president of Mercury Racing, who provided full background on the new 1350 HP engines and the deal was done. The Cigarette will keep good company with Rosatti's "other" boat--a 160' Christensen, "Remember When"--his second Christensen, which he keeps at Fisher Island. His captain, Henry Duplessis has had his performance boat introduction in the Marauder. The duo has clocked 120 mph easily and has been leisurely cruising Biscayne Bay at 80. The 2011 Cigarette Marauder was completely redesigned to accommodate the 1350 engines including the deck, cockpit and engine compartment, creating a sleek, long stretch of aerodynamic hull, balanced to handle the power of 2700 HP. Rosatti has been cruising with the boat to New York and Newport over the summer and may plan a trip down to the Keys as well.

Princess Enviromental Accreditation

Plymouth based Princess Yachts today became the first significant British boat builder to achieve the Rina Green Plus (Y) notation for their entire range of V Class and Flybridge yachts up to 24m (85 feet). The award provides an independently verified environmental accreditation from the classification society RINA and applies to each individual model which is assessed for its environmental impact. The rigorous testing investigates all aspects of the craft from engines and electrical systems to materials and substances employed and Princess are the first brand to demonstrate the compliance of every vessel applicable for the process. Princess also lead the way in responsible manufacturing too and in 2010 became the first major motor yacht manufacturer to be awarded ISO14001 in recognition of achievements in reducing the affect on the environment. This followed a stringent year-long company review into every aspect of the manufacturing activities, products and services, from materials usage, noise and emissions, to energy management and waste disposal. A significant part of the company’s environmental initiative is the use of large scale resin infusion technology, a closed mould process which almost completely eliminates emissions in the workplace and local environment. This advanced technique also offers significant quality, weight and structural benefits resulting in better hull performance and fuel efficiency.

Riva Trophy 2011

The fourth Riva Trophy, an annual event organized by Monaco Boat Service, Riva’s Monaco based dealer, was held from 8th to 10th of July 2011 in the beautiful setting of Monaco. Taking part in this exclusive event were Owners from all over Europe who have made Riva their greatest passion. As always, this three day event full of style, elegance, amusement and fun, featured both sports competitions and unique events, such as the première of the shipyard’s latest model, the new Riva Iseo, a 27 footer runabout, heir to a long history of excellence and craftsmanship. Classical models, ‘living’ proof of the shipyard’s long history were, as always, on display throughout the event, together with the brand’s latest product range. The Reliability Trial was held after the opening of the event at the Monaco Yacht Club and the arrival point was located along the elegant beaches of St. Tropez. In the evening, the new Riva Iseo was presented and displayed in Place de la Mairie, St. Tropez, in front of the Monaco Boat Service boutique. The photographic exhibition “Immagini nei cantieri Riva” (“The Riva Shipyard in Pictures”) by international photographers Gabriele Basilico and Mario Cresci was on show inside the town council building. The exhibition presented some of the most beautiful images featured in the book edited by the cultural branch of the Italian publishing house Il Sole 24 Ore. The event’s main sponsor was apparel brand Cains Moore, that gave all participants an exclusive technical jacket, the inside of which features the reproduction of a work of art by Renato Missaglia, specifically designed to celebrate the entire event. Dinner and musical entertainment took place on the striking St. Tropez dike. During the evening, besides music and dancing, a charity auction in favour of the Kings of Kibera association, which sustains the project “Street kids care” providing houses and education of street children in Kenya, was held. For this prestigious event Vhernier jewellers donated one of their extraordinary creations to be sold during the charity auction, together with a work of art which represents the new Riva Iseo by Renato Missaglia. This image was also featured on the bottle labels of Pasqua wines. Once again Pasqua wineries and Riva enjoy an ongoing relationship on occasion of their most important events. Other important sponsors included Radio Mibtecarlo, featuring the special articipation of Maurizio di Maggio who was the special auctioneer and presenter of the soirèes.  During the picnics, aperitifs and dinners of these three days devoted to the Riva’s gems, the guests toasted with Italian cocktail Bellini produced by Casa Vinicola Canella as well as prestigious Veuve Cliquot champagnes.

Riviera’s large boat program project manager Paul Wrench said the owners of this 70 extended the flybridge rear deck, which provided added cockpit protection from the elements and increases the flybridge entertaining space. Paul said the skipper came to Australia once during the construction phase and then for the sea trials prior to shipping and he was very impressed with the vessel, saying it ran very well and the performance was in line with their expectations. Director of sales and marketing for Europe, Asia and the Middle East, David Taylor said the owner was from Switzerland but kept his boat in Gibraltar, which is at the mouth of the Mediterranean.

Sanlorenzo Strengthens Financial Position

In the worst ever year for the world economy 2009 - and even worse for the yachting industry - Sanlorenzo was able to limit its turnover reduction in a small -9%, corresponding to € 181 mln turnover (with € 17,5 mln Ebitda) compared to 2008 € 198 mln turnover (with € 24 mln Ebitda). The lower profit was due to the depreciation of the trade-in boats that in 2009 was internationally estimated between 20 and 25%. Sanlorenzo didn’t recur to an aggressive discount policy thanks to the strength points of its brand: Tailor made yachts on owner’s requirements, Classic and sober design, marking a timeless value, Steadily rooted European market, but open to new realities. Direct distribution through the Brand Representative sale network, made of companies in majority participated by Sanlorenzo and maintained a competitive advantage and the strength of its brand, being able to increase its 2009 budget by 8%, foreseeing a 2010 turnover of € 196 mln (with € 17,2 mln Ebitda). Sanlorenzo steadily maintain the course of its provisional budget, elaborated in 2009, avoiding the many dangerous market “shoals” where “run aground” most of the major Italian and foreign groups. With € 196 mln turnover (with an Ebitda of fairly 10%), Sanlorenzo achieved to maintain its company size and to consolidate its worth, with a result even similar to the pre-crisis figures (2008 turnover, see before). This financial result, confirmed by the board on June 14th was achieved by delivering to their owners 19 planning motoryachts built by the Ameglia Division and 9 among planning, semi-displacement, composite and metal motoryachts built by the Viareggio Division for a total of 28 new yachts which happily cruised during the 2010 summer. In 2011 actually Sanlorenzo conquered the third position in the Global Order Book edited by the American magazine Showboats, the annual statement of the orders to the superyacht industry, just behind the first position of Ferreti Group (which lists in this GOB five brands, Ferretti Yachts, Custon Line, Crn, Pershing and Riva) and the second position of Azimut-Bentti Group (listing the two brands Azimut and Benetti). Joining in 2011 the very selected group of 40m+ superyacht builders, gathered in the SYBAss, Super Yacht Builder Association, with its flagship, the 46 Steel, 46 metres steel hull with aluminium superstructure, Sanlorenzo is delivering in these days the third hull and started the construction of the fourth. 46 Steel will be on display at Monaco Boat Show in September.

The benefits of extensive model tests and CFD program development are very apparent in engineering such a performance.  The Feadship 77.70 meters also has a creative and innovative interior style and layout. The accommodations for twelve guests are located on the lower deck, while there is a private owners deck with its own aft seating area, full-beam stateroom and separate study. A contra-flow swimming pool, a massage beauty saloon and a spacious sun deck with outdoor cinema are among the many other first class facilities. Space for crew is for twenty members.

Hinckley New Web Site

Hinckley located at the Southwest Harbor, Maine USA is considered a legend among the boat builders, and now this famous name presents its new World wide web virtual showroom.  Founded in 1928 by the family Hinckley, the company while being mostly appreciated for its classic lines was also among the first in building fiberglass boats, putting a rolling furling main sail, and hot and cold water system on a sailboat in 1948.  Hinckley is also a pioneer and today its boats are built what is patented and called the Dual Core system, which is fiberglass composite building technique with Kevlar on the outer skin, and Carbon fiber used in the inside shell.  In 1996 apart signalling a return to power boat building Hinckley was again an innovator when it launched it Jetboats range designed by Bruce King who redefined the Down East lobster boats, with its jet drive propulsion and the patented JetStick.  Today Hinckley offers two range of boats the power Jetboats, and Sailboats which offer a total of eighteen models.  The small entry level model is the T29C in the Jetboats range, and the largest Hinckley is the 70 Sou'wester of the Sailboats range.  Recent upcoming models in the power range is the T48 Mk.II MY and FB models.  Hinckley new web site takes you around with the following buttons; The Hinckley Experience, Jetboats, Sailboats, Service, and Contacts.

Project: Riviera 53 Open Flybridge

After launching the Enclosed Flybridge version during the Sanctuary Cove boat show, Riviera presents the project for the 53 Open Flybridge model.  So far no launching date is given for this model, but seeing the success of the enclosed flybridge version I would not think this to be a long wait. The 53 Open Flybridge will feature many of the elements of the enclosed bridge version with some distinctive differences and most of all a more sportfish dedicated layout.  This is shown especially on the flybridge with the helm located to stern for supervising the game fisherman during combat times.  Other differences for this new 53 Open Flybridge are also to be found in the staircase located outside instead of inside as for the enclosed bridge version.  A stylish fixed hardtop covering all the fly is also to be found up top which also features a C-shaped dinette, and wet bar.  Down below the layout continues the spacious plan of the new 53 with a full beam owners stateroom with en-suite head and walkin wardrobe, VIP suite, and twin bunk guest cabin. A crew cabin to midships is also available.  The main deck interior continues the practical layout with an astern galley, and two settees located to fore.  Power is from triple standard Volvo 435hp, and optional twin 900hp, or Cats 1015hp engines.  Propulsion is always coming from pods drives in a triple first generation IPS600, to other options as IPS1200 or ZF aft looking versions coming with the larger engine choices.

Powerboat OGP - Netherlands Grand Prix Cancelled

Due to a decision coming from Council of State of the West Frisian Islands, Ocean Gran Prix has been forced to cancel the Netherlands, Den Helder Gran Prix set to be held between the 4 and 7 August.  The Province of North Holland which signed an agreement to dispute for five consecutive years the Powerboat Endurance Grand Prix at Den Helder in Marsiep, has made an appeal to the Regulations Department and while the 2011 race is cancelled accepts to renew its appointment for next year.  Ocean Grand Prix responsible for the promotion of the Powerboat Endurance races has now decided to find a replacement venue with a date to be confirmed on the 30 September and 02 October.

New Model: Bavaria 43 Sport

Bavaria continues to renew its range of motor boats and the 43 Sport represents its second large in size model replacing the 42.  Again the new Bavaria is a design by BMW Group Designworks USA, a collaboration which started with the current 46 Deep Blue flagship and now covers all the motor boat range. Large exterior spaces are the standard of the latest Bavaria and the 43 Sport does not disappoint in this regard offering also a lower deck choice for a two or three cabins plan.  In both cases the owners room is located to fore, with the three cabin version offering a separate shower and head rooms to the master cabin.  In the three cabin version you also get a smaller saloon in L-shaped form versus the larger C-shape found for the standard two cabin version. Power is from twin Mercruiser gas of 430hp or Volvo diesel of 370 or 435hp.  This last optional choice being available in IPS pod propulsion only.

Improve-it = Cigarette 50 Marauder

In the first half of 2011 Cigarette showed an improved version for its 50 Marauder flagship model.  The first boat showing this modification was a Poker Run Edition named Lipschutz.  This boat featured a new deck design which enhance more the aesthetics and style of the current Cigarette flagship.  With this Cigarette shows again how it is always tweaking and elaborating its boats improving them by time.  The 50 Marauder 'Lipshutz' also was the first Cigarette to be power by twin Mercury racing gas petrol SVC4v engines which deliver 1350hp each.

New Model: Sunseeker 73 Manhattan

Sunseeker launched the new 73 Manhattan at the January London show.  The 73 Manhattan should be a replacement of the 70 model launched in 2007, and is a bit longer and offers five centimeters more to the beam.  The exterior follows Sunseeker Yacht range heritage with a very large radar arch, and windows characterizing all parts of the interior from the lower cabin area, to the main deck.  Modern amenities complement this model from a fore deck bench settee to a very large all entertainment dedicated flybridge. Below is a four stateroom plan, which surprises for having two VIP cabins to fore and to starboard.  Many choices are available inside from having a more Italian style separate galley on the main deck or open plan version, to a fourth head or utility room.  Another option is that of a three cabin plan which moves the galley to the lower deck.  A two person crew cabin is located aft.  Tender stowage is on an up and down bathing platform with Sunseeker being among the first European builders to offer this back in the days on the 56 Predator. Power is twin MAN 1550hp which can reach top speeds up to 34 knots, and 25 of cruise.  A joystick option for easy manoeuvring is also available.

Project: Jet Tern 30 Serena

After making good market success with its Selene range of trawlers, and following up with the planning Mediterranean looking Artemis range presented in 2009 Jet Tern from China present a new range for a Sport Cruiser boat with the new 30 Serena.  The Serena range was already presented with an open outboard of 22 feet.  But this new 30 Serena project takes things to another level for the Chinese boat builder with a host of Mediterranean looks and concepts.  Accommodation plan for the 30 Serena is for a four berth interior, with galley and separate head.  But interesting is the cockpit deck which features a dinette with two opposite bench seats, L-shaped settee, helm station, and a small wet bar.  Not bad for a boat which measures over all just thirty feet included an extended tender stowing bathing platform.  Standard power is from twin Mercruiser 220hp gas engines which should give a 30 knots top speed.

New Model: Mustang 50 Sport Cruiser

Since being taken over by Maritimo, Mustang presents its second model the 50 Sport Cruiser.  Not an entirely new model as the 50 Sport Cruiser is a redefined Maritimo C50 Sports Cabriolet, but features one important difference, with the current Mustang flagship being powered by Volvo IPS pods.  Since then Maritimo have presented a new Maritimo C50 IPS Sports Cabriolet available only for the US market which is same in all areas as the Mustang 50 Sport Cruiser, but it will be interesting for the future if we will see more re badged Maritimo's entering into the Mustang brand. The IPS propulsion choice of the Mustang 50 Sport Cruiser allows a new lower deck layout with a larger midships located owners stateroom.  The other cabins are located fore for the VIP, and a single guest berth to starboard side.  The main deck has also been redefined now offering a more socialising living area with an astern galley.  Power is from twin Volvo 435hp engines which are propelled with IPS forward looking dual propeller pods

Projects: Beneteau 49 Flyer Gran Turismo, Beneteau 44 Flyer Gran Turismo

Beneteau continues to extend the Flyer Gran Turismo range and presents the 49 Flyer Gran Turismo project.  This project is based on the 47 Monte Carlo which it will replace, but features important novelties mostly coming from extended windows on the main deck, new larger view windows for the fore VIP cabin and an up and down hydraulic bathing platform to aft.  Thanks to the bathing platform and tender garage it will be possible for the 49 Flyer Gran Turismo to carry two tenders.  The interior plan should offer the same layout of a two or three cabin choice as the Monte Carlo model. Power is again trusted to twin Volvo 435hp engines with IPS600 pod drives.
The Beneteau 44 Flyer Gran Turismo project is rethinking of the most recent 42 Monte Carlo model.  As the 49, the 44 Flyer Gran Turismo are similar offering new view windows in the forward VIP cabin, and a larger more extended bathing platform.  But the aft sunpad does look a bit larger in the renderings shown on the website, which will be a result of a larger tender garage.  Inside the 44 Flyer Gran Turismo should offer a spacious two cabins layout, with the galley and large fridge standing out as one of the largest in this size type boat.  Power should again be for twin Volvo 370hp with stern drives.

New Model: Galeon 780 Crystal

In a nine part series PowerYacht took you into the construction journey of the Tony Castro designed 780 Crystal and now finally after a two years plus wait, the new Galeon flagship is in the water.  Just shy of a Super Yacht in its model designation the 780 Crystal is in actual fact on over all length just above eighty feet.  The new Galeon flagship offers hard to find features in this size; like the day head located on the entrance of the main deck, an astern bar overlooking the aft cockpit, glass sun roof which opens over the lower helm, and larger to the usual jacuzzi spa on the flybridge.  Down below the surprise continues with the 780 Crystal offering larger to usual spaces in a four double cabins arrangement, with all of the rooms having en-suite shower heads.  The owners stateroom located to midships surprises for its space and offers a walk in wardrobe, lounge settee, and a desk.  Surprising an office desk is also featured in the fore VIP suite, and one of the guest cabins, this again being a hard to find feature in a four room boat measuring eighty feet.  The crew cabin of the 780 Crystal located to aft with a separate entrance will have two cabins, a small galley, dinette, and a shower head.  Power for the Tony Castro designed modified Vee planning hull of the 780 Crystal is from twin MAN engines from 1500 up 1900hp.  Hull one was powered by twin MAN 1800hp reaching speeds over 33 knots.

Project: Riva 63 Virtus

Riva announces the project of the 63 Virtus.  This new sport yacht project follows an open boat concept and is the largest open ever built by the renowned Italian brand.  The 63 Virtus uses the water lines of the 63 Vertigo model and follows the concept of the 52 feet Rivale but in a larger size.  Design is again trusted with the long standing collaboration of Micheli's Officina Italian Design, since the eighties designer for Riva.  Inside a large salon area accommodates a full dining table welcomes you to the lower deck.  Here light and dark shades of oak and opaque polished lacquering provides a modern touch to the traditional elegance characteristic of Riva. Its open interior exteriors are perfect for entertaining. The cockpit is covered with a large, electronic hydraulic operated Bimini-top and features two large sundecks, three sofas, fridge, sink and upon request a grill. Power is from twin 1360mhp MAN engines which take the Riva 63' Virtus to top speeds of 40 knots and a cruise of 35 thanks to a hull equipped with tunnel propulsion for ultimate ease and handling for the smoothest ride out on the water.

New Model: Codecasa 42 Vintage F.73

Codecasa launches its construction hull number F.73, the much awaited 42 Vintage model.  A new departure for Codecasa with the 42 Vintage who in the last two decades always presented us with models who look at the present and future, with that always unique approach to Italian design.  Designed by Della Role long time collaborator for the shipyard who for the 42 Vintage inspired himself to unique craft of days gone by as the Moratti owned Parragina, or Kennedy's  Marlin to evoke the sense of retro to this new chapter in Codecasa long written history.  But most of all the 42 Vintage does not want to look as a yacht attacking the sea as latest modern generation designs but one which is comfortable on the water, and giving respect to it. The 42 Vintage also inspires classic style in all areas of its five double cabins interior with an owners stateroom located on the main deck.  Finishing is for light color with white marble and lacquered wood. Power is from twin 1650hp Cat which give a 17 knots top speed, and a range of 4000 nautical miles on one 60000 liters fuel tank at 11 knots.

Web: Vismara Yachts New Web Site

Vismara Yachts specialized in building custom builds for its clients presents its new World Wide web showroom.  Vismara was founded in 1984 when its founder Architect Alessandro Vismara graduated at Southampton Collage specializing in Applied Hydrodynamics and Performance Prediction.  This for Alessandro a collaboration with Perini and later on in 1990 continues with Swedish sailing yacht builder Baltic Yachts.  Today the collaboration with Baltic Yachts still continue not only in an engineering way, but also as Vismara is service refence in the Mediterranean.  Vismara has build a lot of sailboats but in recent years started building power boats delivering as yet four very different models both in size and shape which start from the eight meter 28 Mas, to the 80 Record.  The latest launch which went in the water early on in 2011 is the MY68 Navetta. Four more motor boats are currently under construction from 56 up to a 115 footer.  Vismara new web site takes you around with the following buttons; Home, Vismara, Activities, Partnership, Yachts, Brokerage, Download, News, Contacts, Baltic Yachts Italia, and Blog.

Improve-it = Azimut 88 Flybridge

For the second half of 2011 Azimut makes new improvements to the 88 Flybridge, second small in the famous Italian brand super yacht sizes and launched in 2009 as a further evolution of the 85 model.  These new changes  occur on the inside without touching the Stefano Righini designed exterior profile. But in the inside we have a change of designers with Salvagni taking over from Galeazzi and presenting two changes: the layout of the lower deck and the decor.  The first involved moving the bathroom in the master cabin toward the stern, thereby creating a buffer that isolates the master cabin from the engine room even more. The new layout also made it possible to modify the stairs, which now have a more discreet access into the suite. To port, in full light, a breakfast zone was created, with two armchairs and a table.  Corresponding to the opposite window is the vanity. The wardrobes are built into the walls and have a slightly larger storage volume. With the master cabin change a  second layout change was possible in the saloon, with the stairs going down to the owners room making possible to position the day bathroom longitudinally, with a resulting gain of space for the dining area.  The decor modification stands out immediately. All the forms have been changed with architect Salvagni, who designed the interiors, transforming the shapes by softening corners and creating curves. Breaks in continuity between ceilings and walls are seen everywhere. The system of portals that separate the rooms become a new loop system that invites passage through the softness of the rounded forms. Also in the master cabin the curves of the new decor are repeated, seen in a wraparound headboard that includes the bedside tables. Another instance of particularly interesting design is represented by the slits for opening the wardrobes: they design a soft shape, an invitation to open and enter into the comfort of one’s clothes. There is no lack for mirrored surfaces, which further augment the sensation of space.

Project: Sarnico 46 Spider GTS

Sarnico present the project for a 46 Spider GTS model.  This project will launch in the fall of this year with hull one being sold to a US client and follows the 40 Spider launched in 2006.  As the smaller model, the 46 Spider GTS will offer clean aggressive looks with comfort and is designed by two of the most respected naval firms being Nuvolari and Lenard for the lines, and Victory Acampora for the hull underwater shapes.  This duo of designers is a symbol of the Sarnico boat building company the first being used since 1994 first on the still in production 45, and the second for the latest models since 2006.  The 46 Spider GTS will distinct itself for larger spaces in all areas.  The 46 Spider GTS will also offer a movable hardtop which covers a big part of the living exterior main deck.  Here is also space for a galley.  Down below the space is for two double cabins, saloon and galley.  The owners room is to fore, and a three berths guest cabin is located to midships. Power for the Sarnico 46 Spider GTS will be from Cummins engines starting at 480 up to 700hp.  As the 2010 launched Grande flagship, the 46 Spider GTS will feature the innovative Flexidrive surface drives propulsion.

New Model: Greenline 70 Ocean Class

The second model from Greenline who after launching the much praised 33 Hybrid goes to more the double size presenting the 70 Ocean Class.  Greenline is part of the Slovenian Seaway Group, and the 70 Ocean Class is in my understanding the hybrid more Eco friendly version of the Skagen 70 with some little differences in the exterior.  A patented hull named Superdisplacement along with optional Lithium powered electric engine with range for twenty nautical miles are part of the new Greenline large explorer yacht package.  You can also have an optional hard top which will feature a solar panel and give three kw of electricity during sun time.  But apart some green features which are optional, standard equipment should be quite generous and also offer ABT Trac stabilizers.  The interior is more looking to that of a standard motor yacht plan then for an Explorer Trawler type vessel with living on the main deck having saloon, galley, dining and helm, and below dedicated to the cabins.  The standard lower deck plan is a double three cabins layout with owners stateroom located to midships, plus a two berth crew cabin to aft.  An optional four cabins version should be presented later on.  Standard power is from twin 800hp engines which give a 22 knots top speed, and 19 knots of cruise.  But Greenline says that at lower speeds a transatlantic range should be possible.

Project: Sealine C48

Sealine present the project of the C48 set to launch at Southampton in September and based on the SC47 model. This new Sealine will be the flagship of its S-Series Sport Cruiser range and will offer modern design ideas merged into the British builder ultimate style.  For starters the C48 features no covers to undo or canopies to unfurl. The helm and saloon are fully enclosed by a signature wrap around screen with an electric sunroof providing full or partial access to the elements. Sliding patio doors link the cockpit to the saloon, creating the largest single social space for a boat of this size. Two large cabins owners to midships and guest to fore both with en-suite shower heads characterize the lower accommodation deck of the C48.  The owners cabin located to midships also features full walking around head room.  Other option for the C48 are high low bathing platform, and electric sunshade in the cockpit for keeping cool.  Standard power is from twin Volvo 435hp with IPS600 pods which although not yet announced should offer similar top speed to what the SC47 gives of about 32 knots.

New Model: Uniesse 55 Sport

Uniesse presents the new 55 Sport model, what is a replacement for the long standing since 2002 produced 54 of the same line which had an average market success.  Measuring over all sixty feet, may be the North Italian builder should change the name here the 55 Sport is based on the same hull of the old model but offers a complete redefining of the deck spaces both above and below. The main reason why this happens is because of the patio door main deck plan which separates living areas up top making it usable all year round, leaving below dedicated to the cabins.  Accommodation offers three double cabins with owners stateroom located forward, this feeling like being a full beam cabin thanks to the movement of the shower head to fore peak.  While Uniesse is not the first to do this it is good to see another builder choosing this type of layout, which in building stage is much more practical to the builder meaning less tooling costs. On the 55 Sport there is also a choice for a galley down or up layout, with the upper choice giving a third shower head.  A crew cabin is located to aft.  The 55 Sport also follows recent trends in tender stowage with the 55 Sport having a hydraulic up and down bathing platform.  Power is from standard 800hp MAN, or optional 1000hp engines which give top speed of 35 and 38 knots respectively.  A surface drives version option should also be available, this pushing top speeds to about 45 knots max.
Technical Data:
LOA - 18.32 m (60.10ft)

Project: Abati 60 Keyport

Abati presents a project for its second large model with this new 60 Keyport.  This new project follows the launch of the new Abati flagship 64 Freeport Fly as launched in the fall of 2010.  The 60 Keyport shows a nice design which follows a good balance of modern traditional as is one of the best looking models from the line the small 46.  The 60 Keyport is a hardtop traditional yacht with a lot of modern thinking going into the looks and function which blend well with the the lobster down East influenced lines.  A three cabin lower deck plan is to be found having an owners suite to fore.  A crew cabin or utility room is to be located at midships.  Power is from twin 800hp MAN which should give a nice top speed of 32 knots max and 26 of cruise.

New Model: Rio 34 Espera

Rio Yachts celebrating its fifty years launch the 34 Espera model, which was only shown as a project a couple of weeks ago.  The 34 Espera represents not only Rio's own gift to itself but also a new range for the Italian boat builder which is a tribute to the first wooden craft it build in its early days.  The 34 Espera as said in project review is Rio's vision of an open walk around boat with cabin features.  Of all the models so far presented by other builders the 34 Espera is the more aggressive looking.  Open spaces, center console, and four berth interior are all part of the 34 Espera functions.  Inside the interior also offers a two plus two interior; separate cabin to midships, convertible Vee shaped settee to fore, and a shower head.  The galley is located outside behind the center console.  Convenient side decks lead to fore peak raised deck.  But transformations and hidden tables, passarelle are all part of the exterior functions of the new Rio. Other options for the 34 Espera will be a center light material hard top, and an outboard version with twin Mercury 300hp engines called the Espera TA.  Power of the normal 34 Espera is optional twin Volkswagen 265hp diesel or standard Mercury 305hp petrol gas choice.

Horizon from Taiwan seems to be one of the few builders who is putting a lot of projects and models with catamaran, i.e. dual hull shape.  The PC58 project is indeed the fourth power catamaran coming from Horizon of which two are innovative solar powered models.  Currently under construction with the Scrimp infusion method and set to launch by the fall the PC58 is a design by Winchester from Florida for lines and interior, and Lavranos from New Zealand to what concerns the under water shape.  So far Horizon has not given any details but the flybridge and aft deck do look large in the renderings for a boat measuring seventeen meters in length.  Power is to be from twin 600hp Cummins to what is an asymmetrical displacement shape.

New Model: Mano 37 Gran Sport

Mano presents the 37 Gran Sport an innovative new model which follows what has been coming from Italy in recent times by various builders.  Walk around functionality on top with cabin boat accommodation below.  Of all the offers so far presented the Mano 37 Gran Sport offers the most cabin area having an interior which is just a little bit smaller to what a European cabin boat of this size usually offers.  This comes only to the expense of a great exterior area which uses all the length of the 37 Gran Sport.  Well done to Mano and designers Cabes Yachts.  The outside of the 37 Gran Sport welcomes you aft with two C-shaped settees which can transform in various different forms from two dinettes, a single large dining area, or two sunpads.  To fore of this is also a nice second very large exterior galley, located behind the center console three person helm station.  The fore peak of the 37 Gran Sport is all dedicated to a large sun lounger easily reachable by the steps.  Down below is space for a separate cabin which is the owners to fore and guest double berth located to midships.  A medium sized galley and a small sofa with table complete the lower deck cabin area.  Power is from various twin engine choices from Mercruiser, Volvo, and Yanmar from twin 220 up to 320hp.   Propulsion choice is stern drive or Volvo IPS pods.

Improve-it = Maritimo 440 Offshore Convertible

Maritimo presents a new engine propulsion choice to its 440 Offshore Convertible now offer with the choices of traditional shaft drive propulsion.  The Maritimo 440 Offshore Convertible was launched last year 2010, breaking new ground for a 44 feet flybridge sportfish cruiser thanks to its three-sided enclosed flybridge and internal staircase and an aft galley with bi-fold doors to the cockpit.  The 440 Offshore Convertible was also the first flybridge boat from Maritimo to utilise the Volvo Penta IPS pod drive system. Now the company has introduced more choices to its customers offering the option of shaft drive propulsion, who can select between Volvo Penta IPS600 forward looking dual propellers pod drive with 435hp turbo diesel engines, or Cummins QSB 5.9 480hp with shafts.  In both choices everything remains the same above the waterline of the 440 Offshore Convertible from the three separate cabins sleeping five to the storage space.  In both engines the Maritimo 440 Offshore Convertible can cruise close to 350 nautical miles at around 22 knots and well over 1,000 nm at trolling speed.
