Project: Terranova T92

During the Cannes 2017 boat show Italian Terranova showcased two new projects set to expand the line of the explorer trawler boats of the builder.  After presenting the smaller leaner T74 here, now its time to  showcase the project for the T92.  The T92 will be the third super yacht for Terranova to go above the important over eighty feet size, and just as the bigger T115 and smaller T85 will feature a triple deck layout.  Terranova has not given much public information about the T92 but expect a similar layout to the T85 with more spaces.  As to speed for T92, the Terranova yachts feature semi displacement hulls, so we would imagine a 15 knots max, and cruise from 12 to 8 knots.

New Model: Van Den Hoven 1850 Executive

Dutch Van den Hoven present the new Executive 1850, an extension of its 1700 series. Both the exterior and interior have been designed by John van Leeuwen in cooperation with yacht designer Arnold de Ruyter. The curvaceous lines give the side view an even more stylish appearance. The 1850 is available both with and without a flybridge. The overall concept is carefully considered: elegant with lots of space, Van den Hoven are build of steel so that all client wishes can be realized. The Executive 1800 leverages on all the benefits and experience of its sister vessels in the Van den Hoven fleet and then goes a step further. A striking example is the capacity to close off the entire aft deck by means of a practical yet luxurious awning set-up so that it can still be used when the weather is less pleasant. The outside decks have a natural walking flow and the flybridge version adds a whole new dimension to the sailing experience. With a small outdoor kitchen, fridge, comfortable settees and an extra steering position, this area is the equivalent of a rooftop terrace. Protection from the sun can be provided by a stylish, practical bimini.  There is a great deal of space on this yacht, as is typical for Van den Hoven, with the engine compartment placed entirely aft. Project: Sunseeker 50 Predator

Sunseeker adjourns the the Predator family by an all-new 50, the new entry point for this definitive range. Setting a new benchmark for the smaller performance format, the innovative Predator 50 is remarkable in offering both open and closed capabilities.  Exemplifying the latest in Sunseeker’s cutting-edge design, every detail of the Predator 50 has been designed to perfection, but this new boat’s hidden treasure is the entertainment space that it affords. The Predator 50’s design is enhanced by the addition of a fully opening hardtop roof and a beautifully executed folding cockpit door and hinged window providing an open plan cockpit/saloon. This is complemented by forward and aft cockpit seating which can be folded down to create an enlarged sun bathing area. The spacious saloon makes an equally idyllic setting for entertaining guests in opulent luxury with panoramic views. This makes the Predator 50 a truly open or enclosed cockpit boat, unusual in this size of sports boat.  The interior is just as impressive, with a combination of fine materials and large windows ensuring the full-beam master stateroom, which comes with a generous en-suite, achieves the perfect blend of comfort and elegance. The forward VIP cabin exudes a light yet luxurious feel and features a scissor berth for complete flexibility. Up to four guests can be catered for in style and comfort on the water or an additional bunk cabin can be created in lieu of the lower saloon thereby providing accommodation for six persons in three cabins.  Another key feature for this model is the ample exterior space. A stylish and highly sociable deck boasts a spacious foredeck seating and sunbathing area complete with optional retractable pram hood canopy. Moving aft, Sunseeker’s beach club concept offers an inviting space for family and friends to enjoy the optional built-in BBQ, overhead ‘rain shower’ and fold-down transom seating. Finally, but most importantly, the integral garage which is synonymous with the Predator range, can accommodate a Jet Tender over three meters with an easy launch system via the hydraulic bathing platform.  The Sunseeker Predator 50 is to be fitted with the new Volvo 600hp engines mated to shaft drives, with optional electric steering and joystick maneuverability.

New Model: Bayliss GameBoat 60

The first GameBoat built by Bayliss Boatworks was delivered to her owners in October 2017.  The Bayliss GameBoat concept was created, simply and directly, to chase fish; it is everything you need, and nothing you don’t. The GameBoat is not a charter boat, nor a production boat. As far as construction, fit, and finish, the GameBoat is no different than Bayliss Boatworks other builds. This is a high-quality, custom-built concept with a confined group of layouts for the owner whose main priority is fishing. By design, these boats have a simple interior layout, and include a concentration on rod and tackle storage, fishing efficiency, low maintenance, and speed.  The Bayliss GameBoat number one was named Mama C and is the product of over 30,000 man-hours and nearly 16 months of labor; she will be spending much of her time at southern latitudes, chasing sailfish.  Bayliss GameBoat 60 profile is unique with no front mask or tower; fishing efficiency and low maintenance are her main priorities. Her Matterhorn White hull pairs effortlessly with her custom blue bottom paint and boot stripe. A faux teak toe rail and half round adds pristine detail to the topside.  The flybridge layout draws from the classic center console style, complete with a faux teak helm pod, full electronics and plenty of storage. Bench seating is built-in on both port and starboard sides, in addition to seating forward of the console. Built-in teaser reels nest above the helm in the bridge hardtop.  The cockpit is adequately stocked with custom refrigeration boxes, plenty of tackle storage, and a large ice bin. The teak deck, cover boards, coming and built-in transom fish box complete the functionality of Mama C’s cockpit.  Bayliss GameBoat 60 interior lacks no detail or functionality. Synthetic flooring keeps with the minimalist maintenance program, and is installed throughout the galley and salon. Every cabinet is faced with horizontally laid sawn grain teak veneer. The galley is clad with quart-zite counter-tops, and fully equipped with a Viking microwave, two-burner Wolf induction cook-top, and two Subzero double-drawer refrigerators. Copious amounts of storage throughout the galley and in the dash make for a travel-ready boat.  Down below, her two stateroom/two head (with tackle room) layout ensures plentiful accommodations; each stateroom features two extra-large bunks and a central companionway.  Above each bunk is a custom cabby for electronics storage and charging, while vast tackle storage is built-in under each bunk. In the forward stateroom, the carpet lifts to reveal covert in-deck storage in the machine tunnel, intended for additional provisioning on longer fishing trips.  Both heads, one forward of the galley, and one forward of the forward stateroom, boast quart-zite counter-tops and sturdy, attractive fixtures. The second day head, located just aft of the galley, ensures easy and quick access during a busy fishing day.  A custom-designed tackle room, complete with a reel locker, perfectly fits the fishing storage needs of the GameBoat 60 owners. The neighboring full-size chest freezer ensures a well-stocked fishing program that is equipped to travel. Bayliss GameBoat 60 is a swift mover, with a top speed of 44 knots, and her cruise can range from an easy 32 knots up to 38 knots.  Bayliss GameBoat 60 is also equipped with a Seakeeper 9.

Project: Arcadia 47m For.Th

Arcadia the Italian shipyard intends to expand their vision to even larger yachts, vessels that often interrupt the relationship between the owner and the sea with attempts at majesty that sacrifice the pure pleasure of going to sea.  Arcadia continues to look ahead and has decided to confirm their entry into the world of steel hulled vessels with their new For.Th range, this standing for Forward Thinking. This project closely follows the yard’s philosophy, and together with Hot Lab Studio, the collaboration that produced the successful A100+ continues.  Regarding engineering and producing the first unit of the new range, Arcadia is considering possible foreign partnerships, to ensure that the project proceeds in full respect of the yard’s highest quality standards.  The first model of the For.Th will be 47 meters long, with a maximum beam of 9 meters. Contact with the surrounding environment will be assured by the use of large glass surfaces and open transoms on both the main and upper decks. Arcadia typical linear design is contrasted by an almost completely glass prism, of clear architectural inspiration, providing the interiors with a great amount of natural illumination. This concept brings extreme contrast and is emphasized by the sharp modeling of the superstructure, whose fragmented elements create an appearance of distance, just like glass prisms. A light frame, in chromatic contrast with the rest, ideally reunites the shapes in a play of solids and voids that permits daylight to inundate the interiors.  Usable space is concentrated just a bit forward of amidships to allow for ample sunlit and shaded areas on the after decks, but the play of solids and voids, that literally fragment the lines of the yacht, suggests of an upward movement towards the stern, restoring dynamism to the whole.  All exterior design solutions reflect the maximum in conviviality. Design philosophy for the proposed interiors is based on a refined and contemporary open floor plan, clearly citing modern real-estate design. Spacious salons closely interact with the open air, doubling our perception; the proposed layout links interior to exterior in a relationship without barriers. All this on a yacht with a displacement of just under 500 gt.  The sundeck is surrounded by a discreet, low level structure that provides a base for the slender hardtop struts. The bodywork is painted completely black and merges with the glass prisms that delineate the bridge windscreen. The solar panels are lodged inside the prisms, a traditional Arcadia design distinction. Here the Italian yard proposes the possibility of a transparent Jacuzzi surrounded by a spacious C-shaped sunbathing area located on the forward half of the deck, with two linear settees and a central table tastefully set on the after part of the deck. The bar zone is found in the central part of the deck, facing aft to serve guests on bar stools next to the pool.  There is another bar on the upper deck, shielded by a laminated structure that lets the sun filter through when desired. One of the many solutions for the upper deck that Arcadia has also developed includes two facing L-shaped settees. This configuration creates the quintessential convivial area, covering an incredible 43 sqm. The convertible sky-lounge is another distinguishing feature of the Arcadia style; the full-height side windows slide forward until they completely disappear from sight, while the settees are placed to allow every seated guest to feel the sea breeze. Light inundates the area vertically from several skylights.  Of great interest is the proposal for a separate dining area, similar to the typical layout found on yachts over 70 meters long, connected to the kitchens below by means of a pantry that assures precise and discrete attendance by the crew, without disturbing the guests in any way. Taken all together, 68 sqm. of space is dedicated to the guests on this deck. The upper deck is completed by the Captain’s private quarters, with direct access to the wheelhouse.  The layout proposal for the main deck’s aft area also ensures the maximum in use of space. First, the dining table for eight, sheltered and shaded by the structure of the overhead deck. Then, after a large ”C” shaped settee, a spacious sun bathing area with removable backrests, providing further seating for guests, with a beach club/gym located below, separated from the stern by a large glass door aligned with the swimming platform. This solution lets a large amount of light through and eliminates any barrier to the view of the sea.  Also featured on the left and right of the 53 sqm. main interior salon are full-height glass doors that open onto the side decks, while access to the owner’s suite is through the owner’s office. This not only increases privacy but also assures considerable acoustic insulation. The suite offers completely dedicated to the owner, and also features a private lateral terrace.  On the lower deck, guests have two VIP cabins at their disposition, with private bathrooms and studios. The guest area is completed by two twin-berth cabins with private bathrooms. An excellent feature is direct access to the crew area, permitting the crew to service the guest area without having to use the guest stairs.  Ultimately, this is an extremely innovative and revolutionary yacht that maintains the Arcadia styling, a yacht that continues to confirm the yard’s role as a trailblazer and protagonist in what is ultra modern yachting.

New Launch: Feadship 47.00m Hull. 697

Feadship has launched the 47-metre hull. 697 for an experienced owner keen to revisit the classic era of the Dutch super yacht builder while enjoying a rich range of cutting edge on board facilities. Reminiscent of beauties such as Feadship’s 1992 Aurora B., she marries a striking midnight blue hull with a sophisticated superstructure in Matterhorn White aluminium and exterior teak woodwork with stainless steel details. The elegance of hull. 697 is in her tasteful classic design. Signed by Feadship De Voogt Naval Architects, the yacht’s profile appears deceptively simple until you notice the delicate grace of her silhouette, the walk-around deck-house, the curved gunwale of the sun deck forward and the cambered teak deck, all discreet characteristics underpinned by superlative craftsmanship. The traditional design is enriched by the interior architect, who added several subtle contemporary touches such as large windows and bright spaces. Perhaps the most striking modern components on Project 697 are the grilles on the mast, the sides of the superstructure and the main deck forward: these are part and parcel of the underlying aluminium structure. Perfectly clean, even and harmonious, and yet representative of avant-garde design, metalwork and paintwork, they epitomize the yacht’s resolute but unassuming elegance. They were also exceptionally difficult to build. A similar element is the lacquered teak handrails in the gangways on both decks not commonly seen on yachts for quite some time, this graceful nautical feature is staging a comeback. The outdoor seating areas on the main, bridge and sun deck are finished in teak, creating a traditional feel offset by the clean stainless steel and teak stairs connecting the decks. The sliding doors connecting the lounges with aft open spaces have been finished in lacquered teak on the exterior, while the other exterior doors mirror the white of the superstructure. The sun deck contains a wealth of sun lounging space. The centralized mast, a rare sight nowadays is modestly styled in keeping with the classical style. This required Feadship to incorporate a lot of clever engineering in order to fit the emergency generator and switchboard exhausts. The result is an ingenious technical Tetris puzzle within a stylish conical shape with integrated decorative grilles. The interior echoes the exterior in its delicate nautical theme overlaid with contemporary details and state-of-the-art technology. It consists entirely of high-gloss dark European walnut panels, light oak parquet, white wooden ceilings and judiciously placed white paneling. The galley, which adjoins the owners’ stateroom and is designed with a clever central nook where the owners and their guests can spend time, is exceptionally spacious and well-appointed, featuring the same high-gloss lacquered walnut finishing with exclusive stainless steel counter tops an outstanding example of a bespoke solution that reflects how time at sea will be enjoyed.

New Model: Tecnorib Pirelli 1900

Launched at the 2017 Cannes Yachting Festival, Tecnorib extend the Pirelli partnership and present the new 1900 flagship model. Designed by Mannerfelt, the new Tecnorib Pirelli 1900 is built to the highest standards of quality, starting with the resin infused hull and the 100% carbon hardtop, designed to lower the center of gravity and improve performance. The new Pirelli 1900 reprises the lines of the previous 1400, but reinterprets them from a new, innovative, perspective, with an even greater focus on the development of communal areas. The outstanding feature is the design of the carbon hardtop, which extends aft to protect the cockpit. At the bow is a huge sun lounging area, while in the stern, the entire cockpit area can be customized. The hull has been designed to offer high performance without compromising on comfort: it isn’t particularly narrow, which translates into hospitable interiors with a height of up to two meters. In the engine room, two Man 800hp engines are coupled with Top System surface dives with a top design speed of 45 knots, while remaining easy to handle at all times thanks to the joystick and automatic trim system. Below deck the interiors are elegant and essential. The basic layout features two cabins and the central living area, containing the galley, a dinette that can be transformed into an additional berth, and a dining table. The owner’s cabin is in the bow, in the stern, the guest cabin, a head and a big and extremely practical technical storage compartment that, in a second solution available can be a third crew cabin. As always, the distinctive Pirelli tire tread design appears on the inflatable tubes, like all the boats in the range, with the pattern of the Blue Wet tread used in top track races paying tribute to the expertise gained by Italian firm designing tires for extremely wet conditions.

blogger - Creating a New Class

The launch of the new Azimut Grande 27 Metri made an innovative hit in the industry, thanks to its semi wide body raised pilot house design, it does what yachts a few meters bigger do in a smaller more compact super yacht size.  To be truthful this is nothing new in the yachting industry, and it has been a pattern since ever.  Something is launched in a certain size, and the other builder offer it in a smaller and more price competitive model.
The semi wide body concept seems also to be having the growth and what started to become more popular in recent years in the 28-30 meter size, it is now going into smaller dimensions. It will be interesting in the coming years to see if it will go into even smaller sizes less to 26 meters.
On the aesthetic side of the design, the smaller you go in a wide body the challenging, easily turning wrong to the eye it can get.  But the advantage of space and an owners stateroom on the forward part of the main deck will exist more in the coming years.  Think of this as the full beam midships owners staterooms in sixteen meter flybridge yachts.
Truth be told is that the Grande 27 Metri leads to new interesting times and again the defender is Azimut.  It will be interesting to see how the other builders will compete and challenge the Grande.

Azimut-Benetti Group Takes Full Control of Fraser

Azimut|Benetti Group has acquired the remaining share capital from V.Ships, a minority shareholder of Fraser for many years, thus leading the Group's stake in Fraser from 83% to 100% of the share capital. This acquisition is a key step in the Azimut|Benetti Group's development and expansion strategy. Fraser Group is the world’s largest provider of consulting services for yacht and superyacht ranging from Sales, Charter Retail, Charter Management, Yacht Management to Crew Placement. Fraser buys and sells over 50 super yachts a year, for a counter value of more than half a billion euro, and holds about 15% worldwide market share, which makes it the market leader. The Group manages directly 120 superyachts, some of them considerably large, with dozens of crew members. It operates around the world with direct offices in Munich, Fort Lauderdale, San Diego, Seattle, London, Palma, Bodrum, Doha, Dubai, Kuwait, Singapore and Sydney. In this context, Azimut|Benetti's operation will allow Fraser to continue the growth trend that has been going on for years and has led the company to a leading position in the industry. Technology is key: the new frontier are the innovative propulsion systems developed by Rolls Royce exclusively for Benetti.  Azimut Yachts’ expansion plan, on the other hand, focuses on an intense launch program of new products from the five collections (Grande, Flybridge, S, Magellano e Atlantis), thanks to significant investments in research and development, the progressive use of carbon fiber and the involvement of the world’s most renowned interior designers.  In this overall framework, Fraser will be another asset to offer owners all around the world the utmost service for yacht managing, chartering or reselling their yachts.

Riviera Owners Migrate North for a Cruise

The Whitsunday Islands off north Queensland are a dream destination for motor yachting enthusiasts. A group of 74 tropical islands, large and small, white sandy beaches, secluded bays and anchorages add up to the ultimate motor yachting experience.  For 12 Riviera and Belize owners and their families and friends, the annual R Marine Crawley Whitsundays Migration was a very special experience. The fleet included the R Marine Crawley lead motor yacht, a Riviera 52 Enclosed Flybridge, Double Trouble.  Eleven Riviera Flybridge motor yachts, from a classic Riviera 40, two 47's, a 48 to a pair of 52 Enclosed Flybridges, pair of 43 Open Flybridges, Two Sport Yachts and a 54 Belize Daybridge made up the impressive fleet.  To ensure the best possible voyage, the team at Runaway Bay, Gold Coast, based Riviera and Belize dealership R Marine Crawley scheduled the adventure to take advantage of weather windows throughout the Migration, staying overnight at anchor or in marinas, from Kingfisher Resort on Fraser Island to Rosslyn Bay Marina and the Percy Islands.  Voyaging north from the Gold Coast, the fleet met at Mooloolaba, a short day's voyage from the Gold Coast, for a welcome dinner.  The following day the motor yachts crossed the Wide Bay bar for a passage through the Great Sandy Straits, inside the world’s largest sand island, Fraser Island, about 135 nautical miles to the north of the Gold Coast.  “Ben Crawley briefed us about the Wide Bay Bar at the southern end of Fraser Island,” said Darren Cain who, with wife Tracey, joined the fleet aboard their new Riviera 4800, Fun Time. “It is notoriously challenging, but Ben gave us waypoints to navigate. He even organised for a Coast Guard boat to be on standby.  “In the event, the crossing was nearly mirror smooth, but Ben’s attention to detail and our safety was reassuring.”  “We live in Melbourne and all our boating experience has been in Port Phillip Bay and lakes,” he said. “This was our first time in open waters. Any trepidation was quickly quelled by the experience of all the other motor yacht owners as well as Ben and his crew.  "Our plan is to keep Fun Time in Queensland and commute from our home whenever we can make the time to escape."  For Lance and Jacqueline Dummett aboard their new Riviera 5400 Sport Yacht, Hailstorm, the best day of the entire Migration was the stopover at Lady Musgrave Island, a sand island at the western end of a gleaming coral atoll 32 nautical miles off the coast and 67 nautical miles north of Fraser Island.  “The water was glassy inside the atoll,” said Lance. “We snorkelled and watched the thousands of spectacular reef fish. There were even a few reef sharks.  “Some of the owners fished and took their catch onto the beach to cook over a fire. That’s fresh fish!”  Jacqueline used skills learned at a ladies' skipper course to berth Hailstorm in marinas as well as to help with mooring lines.  A second long-distance family was Alex and Kathy Tonks and their young children aboard their Riviera 40, Mezzaluna. Alex explained the name comes from a restaurant in which they had their first date.  "We live in Sydney and had planned to take our motor yacht to the Whitsundays at some stage. Because it is a long voyage for us we were reluctant to do it alone. We saw the notice about the Migration on the Events page of Riviera's web site and contacted R Marine Crawley. We could not have made a better decision.  "The dinner on the beach at Lady Musgrave Island was a highlight for us. Craig, Bruce, Brett and Roger from the 47 Flybridge Pearl caught several fish, including a huge red emperor and cooked them Fijian lovo style on the beach.  "We now have memories of a great group of people and have experienced boating paradise. Although we had not met any of them before, it was a fantastic group to share the journey with. This voyage has made us so happy to be part of the Riviera family."
Ben Crawley altered the schedule to ensure the flotilla took advantage of weather windows throughout the voyage.  “We arrived in the Whitsundays a little earlier than scheduled,” said Darren Cain. “So we spent a night in Cid Harbour on the western side of the large Whitsunday Island.”  “Then we went out to Bait Reef on the inner edge of the Great Barrier Reef. Tracey and I had never been out onto the reef itself so it was an exciting time for us.  “We loved the beach events and get-togethers that Ben and his team organised for us. It was a great chance to talk with other Riviera owners and learn from their experiences.”  The Cains and the Dummetts took delivery of their new Sport Yachts on the Gold Coast just two weeks before the Migration and all are highly impressed with their new yachts.  Tracey Cain appreciated the luxurious interior of Fun Time while Darren was impressed with the Volvo Penta IPS pod drives. “They are beautifully smooth and quiet,” he said. For Jacqueline and Lance Dummett, the single level lifestyle design is perfect.  “Our previous Rivieras were flybridge models,” said Jacqueline. “We had six people on board at times and the single level of Hailstorm means we can all relax together in a very comfortable environment.”  Lance Dummett said the visibility from the helm of the Sport Yacht is excellent.  “She is a phenomenally good motor yacht,” he said. "We encountered some difficult seas on our way back to the Gold Coast and she handled them with ease, even at 25 knots which seems to be her sweet spot for economy and handling."

Viking Fishing for a Cure

One-hundred boats participated in the ninth annual Bluewater Babes Fish for a Cure female angler fishing tournament earlier this month, raising more than $100,000 for local breast and ovarian cancer patients.  "It was fantastic - we broke all records this year," says tournament co-founder Jennifer McGrath. "This is much more than a fishing tournament. We had a combined 2,200 people at our Friday and Saturday night parties."  The tournament is held out of Sailfish Marina Resort in Palm Beach Shores, Florida. This was the first year the event included a teen division, which fished 11 boats and raised just under $25,000. The crowds feasted on delectable Jersey clams, fire-roasted pork, grilled burgers, hot dogs and of course satiated the sweet tooth with cupcakes and clouds of cotton candy. The DJ kept the party going and the kids found plenty to do outdoors with rock climbing, bounce houses, mechanical shark rides, pumpkin decorating, sand art and more. It’s also built with a comfortable interior, and a remarkable spacious three stateroom two head arrangement or choice of optional tackle center or third head.  Three different layouts are available for the lower deck, with choices for a third head, or office space, or a tackle room.  Standard power is twin Cats 1600hp engines.
