Antonini Navi Celebrates Keel Laying

During a private ceremony held at its La Spezia shipyard and attended by the owner, Antonini Navi has laid the keel of the new 32-metre Explorer Yacht, a full-custom with delivery planned in 2025.  Keel-laying is a key moment in the process of building a yacht. Accompanied by a small group of friends, by the head of marine engineering and layout at Hydro Tec, Sergio Cutolo, and by management and various representatives from Antonini Navi, the owner contributed to this important milestone that follows the ribbon-cutting by ‘symbolically’ welding the first section of the hull.  The structural steelwork will be completed by the end of June 2024 and the hull will be joined to the deck in July, again at Antonini Navi’s La Spezia yard. The fitting-out, curated by Milan-based Hot Lab studio, will start in August.  In the next few days, Antonini Navi will be staging another keel-laying ceremony, this time for the Seamore 33, which has been sold to an Italian customer presented by brokerage company Mediayachts.


Archipelago Yachts Awarded DFT Funding

Archipelago Yachts, in partnership with Chartwell Marine, Boat Electrics and Electronics (BEE) and Engineered Marine Systems (EMS), has been awarded funding as part of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition Round 4 (CMDC4), which will enable the progression of a methanol-powered low carbon emission leisure vessel.  Following a four-stage process, which involved five independent assessors selected from industry and academia, the British boat builder has been chosen as one of six businesses which were successful in their applications.  This project is part of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition Round 4 (CMDC4), funded by the UK Department for Transport (DfT) and delivered by Innovate UK. CMDC4 is part of the Department’s UK Shipping Office for Reducing Emissions (UK SHORE) programme, a £206m initiative focused on developing the technology necessary to decarbonise the UK domestic maritime sector.  Dr Stephen Weatherley, founder of Archipelago said: “We are thrilled to be awarded this funding, which is going to make a huge impact for the future of the maritime industry in terms of sustainability. The funding will be used to create a methanol demonstrator vessel, powered by clean bio-methanol, creating a low carbon emission leisure vessel. Since founding Archipelago, clean maritime solutions have always been a huge focus for the company and this grant is allowing us to honour that, which is amazing.”  The Archipelago 47, designed by award-winning naval architects Chartwell Marine, was the first vessel designed in the range at 47 feet, bridging the gap between performance, range and luxury accommodation. The yacht was designed to feel like a home, making it the ultimate family cruiser with easily accessible and serviceable systems.  The propulsion system which will be used for this new sustainable vessel was designed by Archipelago and Chartwell with collaborators BEE and EMS. The design boasts a revolutionary parallel hybrid system, combining the clean energy derived from a pair of methanol reformers and hydrogen fuel cells.  Archipelago was up against 20 other applications in the competition, of which 17 were assessed with 11 chosen for final interviews and six approved for funding.  As part of this project the methanol-powered vessel will be demonstrated in the UK for a one-month period during March 2025.


Azimut Wins 2024 Powerboat of the Year

The Azimut Magellano 60 was recognized as the winner of the European Powerboat Award for the category of yachts up to 20 meters during boot Düsseldorf 2024  At Flagship Night, the nautical industry event organized by Boot Düsseldorf with the publishing house Delius Klasing on January 20th, the winners of the 2024 European Powerboat Award were announced, spotlighting the best boats tested by the jury during the previous nautical year.  Azimut’s Magellano 60 is the winner of the “up to 20 meters” category. Presented for the first time at the 2023 Cannes Yachting Festival, the already award-winning Magellano 60 also amazed the jury of the European Powerboat Award, which is made up of authoritative international experts from the main European nautical publications. They explained their decision to award Azimut, stating that “the Magellano 60 impresses in the motor yacht class up to 20 meters. In addition to its successful visual appearance, the Magellano 60 is characterized by her newly developed hull, which ensures perfect handling at both slow and fast speeds. The workmanship and safety standards are also of the highest level”.  The Magellano 60, in fact, guarantees high performance with the efficient Dual Mode semi-planing hull, which cruises in total comfort at low speeds and can reach higher speeds, all the while mitigating the impact of waves and optimizing the yacht’s consumption and emissions.  At just 60 feet, she is a true crossover of the sea, complete with all the comforts appreciated on long voyages. The elegant external lines traced by Ken Freivokh combine with the large spaces on board; the most characteristic part of the Magellano 60 is the stern, which is transformed into an Infinity Terrace with a transparent parapet that offers visual continuity with the sea. Additionally, the natural extension of the Main Deck to meet the cockpit helps to harmonize the experience of the yacht with nature.  Today, the Magellano 60 is also synonymous with reduced emissions, because she is the first boat in the Azimut fleet to run on HVO, the biofuel produced by Eni Live (Eni Sustainable Mobility) with 100% renewable raw materials*. According to the results of the tests carried out by the Shipyard, this biofuel, combined with the Dual Mode hull, supports high levels of performance and a reduction in well-to-wake CO2 emissions of more than 80% compared to a yacht of comparable size powered by fossil fuels.

Benetti 150 Years in Book by Assouline

Benetti is the protagonist of the new book from Assouline, the prestigious New York publishing house with nearly 2,000 titles sold worldwide on topics such as luxury and design. This extraordinary publication takes the reader on a fascinating journey around one of the world’s most famous shipyards.  Founded in Viareggio in 1873, Benetti has a long history of tradition, innovation and success in the luxury yacht building industry, and this book written by Kevin Koenig, one of the world’s most authoritative yachting journalists, captures the brand’s essence and gives readers deep insights into its evolution. Using archive images, the volume bears witness to the passion and hard work that have contributed to making Benetti one of the world’s leading luxury brands.  The book accompanies readers through decades of challenges, successes and innovations of the Shipyard, from its founding through to the 1960s, when Benetti invented the concept of the modern megayacht and launched the iconic and timeless ‘motopanfilo’ yachts with the Delfino, Gabbiano and Mediterraneo lines, and from the technological revolution of the 1990s and 2000s, which saw the introduction of diesel-electric engines on the Ambrosia III (now available for practically all Benetti yacht families), through to the “giga season”, a period of just 100 days in 2020 that saw the launch of the M/Y Lana, M/Y Luminosity and M/Y IJE, three giga yachts over 100 metres long and including the largest hybrid in the world.  Benetti has shown an untiring commitment to excellence by collaborating with the best engineers and top international designers, some working in sectors such as architecture, art, automotive and fashion, to generate stylistic contamination and an endless flow of new developments.  In the book significant attention is given to famous owners who have chosen Benetti yachts over the years, attracted by the quality of the craftsmanship and the idea of being able to enjoy the beautiful experience that only life on board a yacht like this can offer. Bilgin Wins Boat International Innovation Award 2024

Bilgin is thrilled to announce that M/Y Leona, the 80-meter masterpiece super yacht, has won the first place in the category “Outstanding Exterior Design - Motor Yachts, 60m and above” at the BOAT International Design & Innovation Awards 2024. The award ceremony, held on January 28th in the picturesque setting of Kitzbühel, witnessed the gathering of industry luminaries and connoisseurs of luxury yachting.  Leona stands as a beacon of excellence, crafted to the exact specifications of her discerning owner. Designed in partnership with Unique Yacht Design, Leona's exterior exudes an aura of modernity and grace, characterized by sleek lines and a dynamic hull form.  According to Emrecan Özgün, the Founder of Unique Yacht Design,  “Her main attraction in terms of exterior design and difference compared to her sister ship Tatiana is the red and white color combination on the hull.”  The judges also remarked that the striking red hull and elongated profile made her clearly stand out among the finalists and was a significant factor in earning the award.  At the heart of Leona lies a commitment to environmental stewardship. Canados Returns to Racing

For its first season returning to racing, team Canados-Gladiator took second place at the 2023 Offshore World Championship despite electronics issues that have affected the Mercury engines. After all problems got solved, the Gladiator Boat won the final taking the lead from first lap until the end.


Cranchi Private Show Continues

The Cranchi Private Show programme continues: from week to week, a selection of vessels will be available for interior tours and sea trials reserved for media and customers interested in purchasing a new yacht.  The Cranchi Private Show is held at the “Italo Monzino” Marine Test Centre, Cranchi Yachts’ permanent showroom on the Adriatic, in a splendid natural setting easily reached from Milan, Venice, Treviso and Trieste airports.


Feadship Sets Sail on Diamond Jubilee Celebration

The year 2024 is the beginning of Feadship’s Diamond Jubilee, a year-long celebration. While it may be 75 years for Feadship, the combined experience of De Vries (1906), De Voogt (1913) and Van Lent (celebrating its 175th anniversary this year) amounts to a maritime legacy of an astonishing 404 years, a number unmatched in the industry.  Since the modest origins in 1949, today Feadship has an astounding 1,700-metres of yachts under construction, including ground-braking projects like hydrogen fuel cell propulsion: the majestic 118.80-metre Project 821. Now Feadship has four shipyards in the Netherlands: Aalsmeer, Amsterdam, Kaag and Makkum and operates in eight other locations: Hoofddorp, Leiden, Papendrecht, Moordrecht, Heiloo, Waddinxveen and in Fort Lauderdale, USA. Feadship employs over 2,000 people and is seen as a beacon of excellence in superyacht craftsmanship.  It’s been a staggering growth curve since the first Feadships appeared at the New York National Boat Show, two years after a group of marine business owners gathered for an organizational meeting at De Roode Leeuw café in Amsterdam in 1949 to devise a plan to sell Dutch-built boats abroad. Far from the glamour that now surrounds the superyacht industry, Feadship sprung from a pragmatic – perhaps even desperate – post-World War II plan to rescue Dutch industries by kick-starting exports to generate much-needed hard currency. With most of Europe digging out literally and financially, boat builders wishing to prosper in needed to look further afield. The United States represented by far the most attractive potential market. Assured of some government support, six boat builders launched Feadship, the First Export Association of Dutch SHIPbuilders with one purpose: “to promote the export of luxury craft to the United States of America”. Each of the members pledged the sum of 500 Dutch Guilders (purchasing power of € 2.400 today) to the cause – a significant amount at this impoverished time for a clearly ambitious venture.  The well-known naval architect and former boat builder Henri de Voogt joined Feadship soon after. His role was to be the designer of the future Feadships and often the chief salesman. It was a simple plan; each yard would contribute a boat designed for export and all would share in the cost of marketing Feadships abroad. All hopes and many jobs shipped along with three small boats – 8-metre and 10-metre motor cruisers and a 6.50-metre daysailer – sent to the January 1951 New York Boat Show. Crowds packed the Feadship stand eager to see the sturdy steel hulls and all yachts were quickly snapped up. With news of custom yachts of 23 and 30-metre ordered by prominent Americans in 1952, and 17-metre Capri and 19-metre Coronet crowned Queens of the 1953 and 1954 New York Boats shows respectively, Feadship was off to the races.  The early years were not without teething pains and troubles with agents, cash flow, and the withdrawal of several original members, but with glowing reviews and ninety yachts already sold in America in the first eight years, the potential rewards for persevering in the market were clear. The builders of two of those very first Feadships shown in the US, Royal Van Lent and Koninklijke De Vries, now are juggernauts of the superyacht world and the Feadship brand has delivered over five hundred yachts to date, with another four slated to deliver in 2024.  Just as adding furniture maker Van der Loo to their team in the 1950s and De Klerk later gave unprecedented quality to their yachts’ interiors, the yards determination to innovate in technical areas with corrosion control, mechanical and electrical systems, aluminium and carbon fibre construction and the use of glass made Feadship the brand that sets industry standards.  Feadships such as Sussuro, Ecstasea and Predator sent luxury into the fast lane, while yachts like Savannah and Obsidian showed how luxury could have less impact and launched Feadship on its campaign to net zero by 2030.


Feadship Announces 2024 Young Designer of the Year Award

Pradipta R. Hakim of Indonesia captured the 2024 Young Designer of the Year (YDOY) Award with his concept yacht Blueminance. This is Feadship’s first time as the official sponsor of YDOY, a programme that fosters creativity and excellence within the yacht design community. The award was announced last night as part of the Boat International Design & Innovation Awards event in Kitzbühel, Austria.  The highly regarded YDOY award is recognised as a platform for young, aspiring designers to showcase their skills and gain recognition within the superyacht industry. “At Feadship, we firmly believe in nurturing aspiring talent and fostering a culture of attainable innovation in yacht design. This collaboration with BOAT International Media allows us to share our profound passion and extensive expertise with the next generation of designers,” said Farouk Nefzi, Chief Marketing Officer at Feadship.  This year the entrants, all of whom must be under 28 years of age, were asked to imagine themselves as junior designers working for Studio De Voogt, Feadship’s design division. Their assignment was to develop a superyacht concept design as might be shown at Feadship’s yacht show displays. The brief required the concepts to be futuristic, include environmental innovations, make use of current and ‘near-future’ technology, and show a comprehensive, workable deck layout. The yacht’s length was up to the designer. Contestants also had to render their interior design concept, anticipating how owners' onboard lifestyles might evolve in the future.  The jury of twelve superyacht design professionals narrowed the 26 entrants to six finalists before meeting for a day-long discussion and decision. Jury Chairman Roger Lean-Vercoe said Hakim’s “well-presented design showed strong, innovative and attractive lines, which were accompanied by an extremely well-drawn general arrangement plan and an appealing interior design.”  Tanno Weeda, Studio De Voogt’s Head of Design, notes that Hakim’s presentation, “immediately made me curious and would like to know more about it. He presented good substantiation for his concept. I believe it is a buildable, Feadship-worthy design.”  An enthusiastic supporter of Feadship’s decision to partner with Boat International Media for the seventeenth edition of the YDOY programme, Weeda added, “It is important that young talents can develop within the yachting industry and are informed of new technology. We want to encourage a generation of open-minded, new people who are not yet in a design straitjacket to join and excel in the yachting industry.”  Winner Pradipta R. Hakim is a student at Indonesia’s Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, a public university located in Surabaya, East Java, with a strong emphasis on science, engineering, and innovation, especially areas that support industry and the maritime sector. In addition to opportunities throughout the year to visit Feadship and superyacht shows, Hakim also wins a cash prize of €3,000 to help further his career goals.


Ferretti Yachts Triumphs at Boat International Awards 2024

InFYnito 90, the Ferretti Yachts maxi-flybridge designed for a sustainable seagoing experience, has been acclaimed at the keenly awaited Boat International Design and Innovation Awards 2024, in the Outstanding Lifestyle Feature category. The award ceremony took place on the evening of Sunday January 28 in the magnificent alpine setting of Kitzbühel, at an event attended by many leading names in the yachting world.  These prestigious awards are reserved for projects deemed the most innovative not only in terms of naval architecture and cutting-edge engineering solutions, but also according to criteria such as the design and elegance of the hull.  Ferretti’s award in the ‘Outstanding Lifestyle Feature’ category is yet another endorsement of the success of this innovative new proposition from a brand that is charting a new course under the banner of sustainability.  Ferretti Yachts InFYnito 90 is the result of collaboration between the Strategic Product Committee led by Piero Ferrari and the Ferretti Group Engineering Department, with exterior design by architect Filippo Salvetti and interiors by Ideaitalia.  One of the main elements that convinced the jury was the iconic ‘All–Season Terrace’, a covered area forward that perfectly embodies the inspiration behind the yacht’s design, that of putting people at the centre. Jet Tern Selene New Production Facility

Jet-Tern Marine, a name synonymous with innovation and craftsmanship in the yachting world, has embarked on an ambitious journey signing an agreement to construct a state-of-the-art production facility, sprawling over 38,000 square meters, at the same location as the current Zhuhai Selene Shipyard. This development marks a significant milestone in a commitment to excellence and innovation.  Slated for completion in September 2024, this ultra-modern factory will be equipped with cutting-edge technology. Envision a space where 3D printing meets meticulous craftsmanship, where CNC precision converges with artisanal attention to detail. Features like an air-conditioned, dustless environment, vacuum resin infusion, a carbon fibre heating system, and specialized cranes and warehouses are just the beginning. This high-tech hub will also bolster Jet Tern manufacturing capabilities but also aligns a dedication to environmental stewardship and sustainable practices.  In response to the growing demand and to adhere to local government regulations, this new site also expands Selene capabilities. The new facility will house four new production lines, including the eagerly anticipated Selene 62 Clipper semi-displacement and the Selene 80 Ocean Explorer escalating production and sales to an impressive 40-50 luxury yachts, averaging 56-60 feet, annually. This expansion is a testament to Jet Tern commitment to quality and trust in the support of its global dealers.  But there’s more as alongside the factory, the Selene Shipyard will now boast a magnificent new yacht marina. Set against the picturesque backdrop of the riverbank, this marina will feature thirty berths, offering unparalleled convenience for sea trials, outfitting, and mooring. It’s more than a marina; it’s a sanctuary for Jet Tern yachts and a testament to an ethos of luxury and excellence.  


Leopard Yachts New Facility

Italian firm Cantieri Leopard Investment has announced plans for a brand-new shipbuilding centre located along the Navicelli Canal near Pisa. The proposed project is estimated to cost around 25 million euros and is currently awaiting approval from the requisite authorities. In the meantime, Cantieri Leopard Investment has opened discussions with interested parties looking to purchase the land and take over the development for a new construction or refit facility.  According to Leopard Yachts the canal leads directly to the port of Livorno for unobstructed access to the sea, making the production site ideally situated to form a new industry cluster similar to Viareggio and La Spezia.  The plans refer to a new shipbuilding centre covering approximately 37,880 square metres of the yard's existing property, consisting of a production building with the capacity for six yachts up to 65 metres in length, an administrative office building, operational yards and a dock leading to the water's edge. The facility will also be equipped with a towing and launching basin and a 1,200-ton travel lift.  A key focus of this project has been to optimise on-site energy efficiency and autonomy with special attention going towards the yard's operational processes, including its air and water emission treatment. The site will also feature the use of photovoltaic panels expected to provide at least 60 per cent of its annual energy requirements when operating at full capacity.

Riva at Palm Beach Cavallino Classic

Emblem of Italian style and craftsmanship Riva took part in the Palm beach Cavallino Classic, the prestigious event dedicated to the world of Ferrari held each year in Palm Beach.  One of the best-known vintage Concours d'Elegance in the United States, the competition showcased some of the Maranello-based brand’s most iconic models. Palm Beach Cavallino Classic, in which celebrated its thirty-third anniversary this year, took place from January 25 to 28 at two of Palm Beach’s most exclusive resort locations: The Breakers and Mar-a-Lago. At The Breakers, Riva has exhibited the magnificent Riva Anniversario, the 33-foot open powerboat created in a limited edition in 2022 to celebrate two anniversaries, the 60th and 20th of the Aquarama and the Aquariva respectively. Riviera Announces 2023 Apprentice of the Year Winners

Australia's premium luxury motor yacht builder has proudly announced the outstanding achievements of its apprentices in the 2023 Riviera Apprentice of the Year Awards.  With a highly skilled team of over 900, including more than 100 talented apprentices, Riviera's commitment to nurturing the master craftspeople of tomorrow underscores its pivotal role in shaping the future of Australia’s marine industry.  The awards ceremony, held as part of the end-of-year celebration at the Riviera facility and attended by the entire Riviera team, commemorated four extraordinary apprentices who demonstrated qualities including communication skills, professional growth, and a proactive attitude in their respective trades.  The winners of the 2023 Riviera Apprentice of the Year Awards are: Caden Fletcher (Electrical - Second Year), Samuel Gross (Engineering - Second Year), Zidane Farkas (Composite Tech - Third Year), and Connor Baruksopulo (Timber & Composites Machining - Second Year).  Expressing gratitude and praise for the team of apprentices, Riviera Apprentice and Training Manager, Keira Badke highlighted their crucial role in the marine industry's future. She reaffirmed Riviera's commitment to investing in the training and life skills education of apprentices, along with technology, plant and machinery, to maintain its position as one of the world's leading boat builders.  "Our outstanding team provides unparalleled support to our apprentices, with over 90 percent successfully transitioning into significant roles at Riviera. 
Our philosophy is that to build world-class motor yachts, we must inspire world-class craftspeople,” said Mrs Badke.  Nicknamed ‘the machine’ for his unwavering focus, Samuel Gross's exceptional work ethic secured him an award this year. Reflecting on his achievement, Samuel shared, "I worked hard throughout the year, so it feels awesome to have earned this recognition."  Caden Fletcher, acknowledged for his dedication and attention to detail, expressed enthusiasm for Riviera’s supportive apprenticeship program, emphasising the nurturing atmosphere and opportunities available, stating, “We’ve touched on everything: all sorts of electrical work. I’ve been put with a great crew, and have learnt so much.”  Zidane Farkas, describing Riviera as a close-knit family, expressed pride in being honoured alongside a select group of winners. Highlighting the immense support he had received, Zidane noted, “Everyone is willing to guide you, all the managers —  they are always happy to help.”  Connor Baruksopulo, a two-time award recipient, credited the supportive environment at Riviera for his success. "It is reassuring to know that the work I am putting in is noticed and drives me to push myself harder than the year before," Connor said.  In her address to the team, Apprentice and Training Manager, Keira Badke emphasised, "Whether you are in your first year or fourth, each is a stepping stone towards greater heights. Riviera Opens New Apprentice Academy 

Australia’s premium luxury motor yacht builder Riviera is making a significant investment in the future of young Australians seeking a career in the marine industry by opening its own state-of-the-art training centre, The Riviera Academy of Excellence.  The Academy, based within Riviera’s 16.8-hectare Gold Coast facility will allow the motor yacht builder to train, in partnership with Major Training Group, their 150 apprentices onsite across 10 individual trades, including composite technology, marine craft construction, diesel fitting and cabinetmaking.  The centre was officially opened on January 12 to coincide with the company’s 2024 apprentice sign on day, which saw 52 bright new apprentices welcomed - 27 school based and 25 full time apprentices - for what is the biggest training intake in the company’s history clock on for their first week as aspiring boat builders.  Reflecting the growing diverse and dynamic group of people embarking on their journey to become luxury motor yacht builders, 12 females are part of the Riviera class of 2024.  “It’s always an exciting day for these young apprentices and their proud families,” said Keira Badke, Riviera Apprentice and Training Manager.  “Our holistic training program offers strong support for our apprentices where we teach their chosen trade skills alongside coaching life skills to help nurture world class people that will help build our world class motor yachts.  “They really are the master craftsmen and women of the future and from their very first day with Riviera we want our apprentices to know that we will do all we can to help them be the best they can be.  “It’s often their first real working day, so naturally, they’re eager to commence learning their trade and ultimately, begin to help us build our beautiful motor yachts.”  The Academy was officially opened by Senior Training Instructor Darren Kearns and Instructor Justin Leigh-Smith who both completed their apprenticeships in 1996 in marine craft construction with Justin serving his apprenticeship with Riviera. Both also have had esteemed careers with Riviera with Darren serving over 18 years and Justin 30 years.  Darren and Justin will be leading the training for the Academy which is a 680 square metre state-of-the-art facility comprising of two fully operational workshops, two learning hubs including a dedicated drafting room, offices and meeting room.  Within the facility there are two ‘Halls of Fame’ recognising Riviera’s past graduated apprentices who now hold key roles within the company and an impressive showcase of Riviera’s national and international awards for excellence.  The Academy has partnered with Milwaukee, a global leader of professional tools to provide the latest equipment for use by the apprentices, including the most modern air filtration system to ensure the centre remains dust free.  Riviera is responsible for training over 400 tradespeople through its award-winning apprenticeship program over the past 30 years, which involves partnerships with 37 schools in southeast Queensland and northern New South Wales.  Rodney Longhurst, Riviera’s owner and a former carpenter and joinery apprentice himself, is extremely passionate about supporting the growth opportunities of his team.  “I’m exceptionally proud that our Riviera team will be mentoring these talented new apprentices and giving them such a great opportunity - it’s immensely rewarding for me, personally, to see our apprentices develop into such accomplished mature adults and great Australians, all with world leading boat building skills,” he says.  “Our significant investment in our new Academy of Excellence reflects our investment in all our team.  “We want each and every person at Riviera to be the best they can be.  “So many of our senior managers and tradespeople have completed their apprenticeships here, highlighting the rewarding and long-term career pathway that we offer at Riviera.”

Nicola Antonelli, 36, a graduate of the IULM University of Languages and Communication in Milan, started his professional career at Ducati Motor Holding S.p.a., in various roles within the Sales & Marketing division. He collaborated with internationally renowned companies in the maritime industry before eventually becoming part of Sacs Tecnorib Spa.  “I could almost say that it is a return to my roots, as boating is a family legacy and an industry that I have always followed from up close,” said Nicola. “More than 10 years in a company of excellence such as Ducati have been invaluable and have given me insight into the macro-trends of the automotive industry, from which the marine sector sometimes draws inspiration and looks to. Sanlorenzo and Volvo Penta Collaborate to Decboranize

Sanlorenzo and Volvo Penta have on Monday 22nd January announced they are working together to bring Volvo Penta’s IPS Professional Platform, the industry’s most advanced technology and propulsion platform for commercial marine vessels and superyachts, to two new Sanlorenzo yachts, the SX120 and the SX132. The two models are expected to launch in 2025 and 2027 respectively and will be the first superyachts installed with the IPS Professional Platform. Volvo Penta and Sanlorenzo are showcasing their plans for the new IPS-powered yachts during Boot Düsseldorf in Germany, 22 January 2024, at the show’s blue innovation dock.  The new IPS Professional Platform is a unique marine innovation, offering unparalleled comfort, performance, and sustainability for a new class of marine vessels and superyachts. Celebrating a year marked by great achievements, including the acquisition by Intech Boating, an unprecedented operation in the nautical sector, Sessa Marine has shown that more than 65 years of tradition in the market, combined with the search for innovation and multiculturalism, are capable of strengthening the brand and making it stand out in the global nautical sector.  For 2024, the shipyard announces its return to the North American market, with Sessa Marine US, located in the city of Aventura, Florida, which will also be responsible for marketing and distributing the brand's products to the Caribbean market. Leading the new Sessa Marine US operation are executives Vanderlei Pallhano and Guilherme M. de Lima, partners in the new Sessa Marine and Intech Boating global project, and Marcelo Puscar, responsible for managing the American project. In addition to a service office for relationships with clients and prospects, the new unit will also have a structure and staff to support the service and maintenance of the boats. As part of this strategy, next February Sessa Marine will exhibit two boats at the Miami Boat Show, through new commercial partners.  With the reopening of this market, the expectation is that vessels sold in the region will account for 30% of the group's turnover this year. The operation is already underway with nine new Sessa units arriving on American soil by the end of January. These are the C36 IB, C36 OB, C40, C44, F42, and F48 models, manufactured at the shipyard's Brazilian plant. Viking at Pelagic Rockstar Offshore Tournament

Congratulations to Team Fish Tank/Galati for their back-to-back win at the 8th annual Pelagic Rockstar Offshore Tournament. The team came out on top of the 91-boat fleet after two days of fishing the largest tournament in Central America. With captain Ben Horning at the wheel, the anglers released 40 sailfish for the win. Last year, the team fished Galati Yacht Sale’s Viking 64, but this year Chris and Laura Jessen (who contributed a combined 15 sails) offered up their newly delivered Viking 64 Fish Tank. Now on to the Los Suenos Signature Triple Crown – good luck!

The Viking 48 Fish On took 2nd Place Team honors during Operation Sailfish. Eight releases clinched the spot during Leg #1 of the Quest for the Crest Sailfish series. Trophy Wife, a Viking 52, was the 2nd Place Team and Karen McCann was the Top Lady Angler. Top Angler with five releases went to Matthew Rodriguez on the Viking Priceless. Markos Argiros, fishing on the Viking Twin Reels, claimed Top Junior Angler. The Viking 54 Olde Floridian weighed the Heaviest Tuna.

Project: Italyure 50

At the end of 2023 Italyure announced it started construction for its upcoming and all new 50 flagship model.  Designed as the smaller 38 and 35 by Maurizio Marzocca, the Italyure 50 is a further development of the 45 project which was announced in 2022, and since then has been modified and extended to be bigger and more comfortable.  The Italyure 50 versus the 45 also features a redesigned T-Top which is now enclosed forward, and has been extended further aft.  For the 50, Marzocca like the smaller Italyure models presents a walk around sport yacht with length over all fore to aft easy deck use.  The exterior main deck layout of the Italyure 50 offers two central aft and fore-deck sun-pads, with a central console helm station which has a galley behind and a dinette for ten with opposing settees further aft. To the fore-deck in front of the sun-pad is also two opposite looking settees.  Down below the Italyure 50 is offered in two layouts; a two cabins two heads with an L-shaped lounger, and or a three cabins two head version.  The Italyure 50 is to be powered by twin Volvo 550 or 600hp with IPS pod drives, and or Cummins or FPT 650hp on line shaft propulsion.  Interestingly the Italyure 38 which is the first model presented by the Italian Neapolitan builder in 2021, and since then has sold in over twenty units, has seen a preference for line shaft propulsion.

New Model: Colombo 40 Bellagio

In mid 2023 Colombo launched its new 40 Bellagio model, a replacement of the 36 Bellagio which was presented in 2011.  The Colombo 40 Bellagio comes from a design of CentroStile who presented an open sport day cruiser with a cabin accommodation for two, inline with the Como's builder historical heritage.  To the previous 36 the new 40 Bellagio gets a redesigned aft deck which is easier to use, with a central passage way leading to a deep safe cockpit which offers a settee to port side and wet-bar grill opposite.  The cabin with entry from a central door on the main deck offers an open layout which welcomes you with a settee to port side, shower head opposite, and forward twin berths which transform to a central double berth with a scissor movement.  The Colombo 40 Bellagio is powered by twin Volvo 300hp on stern drives and go up to 440hp with IPS pod drives, with a total eight power plants to chose including of which are four gas petrol engines.

Improve-it = Cantiere Delle Marche Nauta Air 108

Cantieri delle Marche has recently sold the second unit for a Nauta Air 108 model, and what would be the sixth unit of the Mario Pedol and Massimo Gino Nauta studio from Milan Italy, designed semi-custom series.  The Nauta Air series debuted in 2014 with two 90 models launched in that same year, and was followed with a 108 in 2016, and then a 111 a year later, and a 110 in 2019, with these last two units being both extended custom units born from the 108 platform. An evolved model within the Nauta Air series, this new 108 features subtle enhancements and modernized exterior lines for a truly captivating and contemporary appearance. Among the main differences with the previous Nauta Air 108, the fashion plates are visually integrated with the dark windows that run along the Main deck salon and a six meters tender with its crane are located on the main deck forward. Her interiors are bright and airy, and the generous hull volume allows for spacious lodging for the Owners and their guests. Accommodation is split between the Main deck master and four spacious cabins below decks, but guests are likely to spend most of their time either in the cockpit, with its uninterrupted views aft, or on the sprawling Sun deck. Night quarters for five crew members are on the lower deck and the Captain cabin is adjacent the wheelhouse on the Upper deck.  Hull number two of the Nauta Air 108 is to be powered by twin 715hp Cat engines for top speeds up to thirteen knots, a cruise of twelve, and up to 5500 nautical miles of range at nine knots.

Project: Sanlorenzo 50Steel

Sanlorenzo present the 50Steel project, a new entry level in its Steel super yacht range which today offers five models and expands up to a 73 meter project currently inbuild and scheduled to launch in 2025.  The 50Steel comes from a design of Zuccon, the designer of all Sanlorenzo yachts since 2018, what will be an innovative super yacht, especially to what regards sustainable technology, but also a new way of seeing space.  For a first the Sanlorenzo 50Steel is to be equipped with a fuel cell technology which generates onboard yacht electricity with both generators and engines switched off. Another new never seen feature in the 50Steel is a new patented design called HER acronym for Hidden Engine Room, which gives extra space to the owner and his guests.  With HER the 50Steel gains unseen space in the lower deck which goes for the Ocean Lounge which offers over 120 square meters just above the water aft.  This Ocean Lounge will feature three unfolding terraces on three sides; aft, port and starboard, and will lead to a gym-spa area which with a split level design that takes guests to the cabin area forward or the living and lounging of the main deck.  The Sanlorenzo 50Steel has a volume of 499 gross tonnage what will feature five guest suites for ten guests, with crew accommodation for nine in five cabins, and three entertainment areas on each floor.  Power for the 50Steel will come from twin Man 1450hp engines for a top speed of sixteen knots.  The first 50Steel is scheduled for a mid 2024 launch and is reportedly being build for Sanlorenzo boss Massimo Perotti.

Record Snowfall in Juneau Alaska Sinks Eight Boats

Record snowfall in between thirteen to 25 January in Juneau, Alaska has sunk about eight boats, and damage partly sank some more.  The first heavy snow storm arrived on the thirteen January and that did over half a meter of snowfall in one night.  Since then and for twelve days the storms did not stop, with January 2024 reaching over a meter and half of snow fall, sixteen centimetres less to the record set in January 2009, when 191 centimetres of snowfall was recorded for a whole month.  Of the eight boats that sunk two are pleasure boats, with the rest being mostly commercial fisher-craft.  Some pleasure boats suffered a partial sinking, also because most of these are kept in covered slips as the above picture shows. 
Juneau is located to the South-East of Alaska, in the Gulf of Alaska, bordering to the North with the Bering Sea and to the Pacific Ocean in the South.  Juneau has a population of just over thirty thousand with temperatures that reach twenty degrees Celsius plus in Summer and going to below zero in the Winter months.

New Model: Bolide Yachts 80

The niche market of the super fast sport yacht beyond 24 meters has seen a new interesting player emerge in 2023, with Bolide Yachts first 80 model, what the Italian yacht builder calls the first Hyper Muscle Yacht.  Saying Bolide Yachts is new, is actually an understatement as the man behind the Italian yacht builder, is none other then fast planning hull specialist designer Brunello Acampora, who with his Victory design firm has designed and consulted an endless list of some of the best hulls in the last four decades.  With Bolide Yachts firsty eighty model, Brunello goes a step further creating the fastest yacht above 24 meters in size, which reaches an impressive 73 knots of top speed. For reaching this speed Acampora took four years to design and fine tune the Bolide 80 two stepped deep-Vee hull to match this performance, and going into pain staking detail for a light weight and stiff full carbon fibre construction, and a triple Man 2000hp power designed around a custom surface drives combination.  The Bolide 80 though does not stop with the performance and offers an interesting mix of luxury thrown in, with a design element which is both unique and futuristic in both the exterior and interiors, with the lower deck offering a two double cabins accommodation sleeping five.  The lower deck also offers a separate galley to port side with adjacent crew cabin, and saloon entertainment area which uses the full five meters plus of beam of the hyper muscle yacht.  Interested?  Bolide Yachts 80 is limited to ten builds of one or two hulls a year, with each build being semi-custom, and a price which starts at nine million euros.  Bolide Yachts is planned to have five models in the future with Brunello Acampora having preliminary details drawn in for both a smaller 70 and a larger 170 model nearly finalized.

Swan's motor yacht division was launched in 2021 after a careful study of the market. Leonardo Ferragamo, Chairman of Nautor Group, had been thinking of entering Swan in the power segment for a long time, but he wanted to début with a product able to make a difference, in an already crowded segment.  Ferragamo already entered the motor boating sector with the Camper and Nicholson brand which he bought in 2001 and launched two Ray Hunt designed traditional looking down-East inspired line producing two models a 42 in 2004 and a 50 footer in 2013, with three other projects which went up to a 42 meter super yacht.  The first Swan powerboat was the Shadow which arrived in 2021, followed by the inboard OverShadow 42 in mid 2023. The passion for this adventure, together with the market request have asked for a bigger motorboat leading us to this Swan Arrow project, a 23 meters sport yacht, designed according to the Swan iconic DNA.  Swan Arrow is a sporty and elegant yacht, designed by Jarkko Jamsén, the motor division resident designer, who also penned the two smaller models. With elegant and contemporary design, refined lines and voluminous interior, Swan Arrow is a sport “open” yacht well suited to extended cruising.  To be build in resin infusion with a mix of glass and carbon fibre matrixes the Swan Arrow is a full walk around design, with a fully enclosed hard-top and a spacious walkaround deck plan. The protected cockpit characterized by an opening roof and sliding and pivoting glass door system allows a full panoramic view and an “al fresco” feeling when opened, while remaining cosy, protected and private when closed, perfectly conceived for a yacht designed to enjoy the very best while cruising and at anchor.  Another innovation of the Swan Arrow is the opening platform which becomes a beach area of about fifty squared meters, not floating directly on the water but taken to a higher level thanks to the use of the side openings, altogether creating a real terrace on the sea.  The interior of Swan Arrow displays all the typical details that made Swan yachts iconic, but also introduces new elements and materials.  The space has been maximized offering a “home like” feeling for this 23 meters sport yacht conceived with a two configuration choices of two or three guest cabins.  In the three double cabins layout Arrow accommodates six guests in a captivating space: port side is a dedicated galley, midships full beam master stateroom with a walk-in closet and en-suite; a VIP suite forward, and a twin cabin, both with their own head to create separate and private areas.  The crew quarters for two people is further forward, allowing great privacy for the owners and their guests.  The alternative layout offers two spacious double cabins with a lounge area amidships in between the owners stateroom and forward VIP suite, with a starboard side  saloon with a dedicated dining area and L-shaped sofa taking the spot of the third cabin.  The Swan Arrow is to be powered by standard twin Volvo 1000hp with IPS pod drives for a speed up to thirty knots, with an optional triple set up of the same engine and propulsion which should add an extra ten knots of top speed.

Sunseeker Yacht Partly Sinks in Haulover

A 22 meter Sunseeker motor yacht partly sank while berthed in a Marina at Haulover, Miami on the late morning of 24th January.  According to reports on social media, the Sunseeker yacht had a sea-cock failure in the forward part of the hull, leading to it partly sinking, with a short video snap showing as rescue operations are underway by Fast Response Marine Towing and Salvage on the Instagram channel Oldhatfishing.  A day later to the accident, on the 25th January the Sunseeker yacht is filmed again, this time by Wavy Boats YouTube channel as its being towed out of Haulover Inlet and into the Atlantic Channel again by Fast Reponse, probably taking her to a yacht yard for repair.
The Sunseeker yacht in this sinking is a 74 Manhattan as designed by Don Shead and produced from 1999 up to 2001.  The 74 Manhattan, was a new entry into Sunseeker's line up as a filler between the 84 and upcoming 64 Manhattan.  In 2002 Sunseeker updated the 74 Manhattan with the Mk.2 version, additional side profile window, and three vertical hull side windows added to serve the midships master stateroom, with the model replaced by the first generation 75 Yacht in the fall of 2003.

The Wandering Hillybilly Aquila Power Cat Ends Aground

A sixteen meter Aquila power catamaran of the YouTube vlog The Wandering Hillybilly and titled with the same name, ended beached in Mountain Trunk Bay, to the West of Virgin Gorda Island on the afternoon of 23 January.  A Vlog on the The Wandering Hillybilly documented the incident, which happened because the yacht broke from its swing mooring, while the owner, i.e. Alan and five guests just swam to shore for a meal at the Sugarcane Restaurant.  As Alan arrived to the beach, who was the last of the group to make the ten minute swim to shore, the guests advised him that the yacht was following him. Seeing this Alan jumped back to save the Aquila catamaran, which at this time was just about ten meters from the beach.  With high risk Alan managed to get onboard, and as soon as he was on his way to the flybridge to save the Power Catamaran, disaster struck as the hull hit the seabed.  Alan still tried the last hope, firing her up and with the starboard engine tried to move her away from the beach, but all was too late, as the yacht was already grounded and beached.  A great moment came after all this with Alan and his guests managing to tie The Wandering Hillybilly in order to avoid her from hitting the rocks located just a meter to aft.  The day later Alan with help from Aquila dealer MarineMax salvaged the power catamaran, taking her to a boat yard in Spanish Town, Virgin Gorda, some three nautical miles South from the beaching accident.  Unfortunately the damage to the Aquila Power cat was more extensive then anticipated, a few holes in the hull, both P-brackets punctured in the hull, severely bent rudders and propellers, and engine room filled with sand and sea-water.
The Wandering Hillybilly is a 2022 Aquila 54 Yacht power catamaran as designed by the Jacep and Jernei Jakopin brothers and produced since 2021.

New Model: Sacs Rebel 50G

In the fall of 2023 Sacs debuted its new Rebel 50G model.  Designed by Christian Grande the Rebel 50G is one of the most complete maxi-ribs ever made, which escapes the narrative of a day boat with over-night accommodation, not because it cannot do that part of use, but also because can also be used as a yacht.  A fully enclosed fifteen meter hard-top the Rebel 50G offers a main enclosed living area with dinette and galley with its lower deck offering two double cabins; master cabin forward, and a twin berth cabin at midships.  An option exists to have the forward cabin replaced by an open entertainment area with J-shaped lounge to port side.  The options on the Sacs Rebel 50G do not stop here, with four options also available for the aft cockpit deck; garage/sun-pad, stern lounge, forward lounge, and free standing.  The Sacs Rebel 50G is powered by twin Volvo 725hp engines with IPS pod drives for top speeds up to 36 knots and a cruise of 28.

Project: Tornado 43 WA

Tornado present the project for the 43 WA, a walk-around sport cruiser designed by Michele Frese.  In this size the Italian builders seem have taken the bug for offering walk-around centre console sport cruiser, with Tornado being the most recent to enter this segment. A walk around centre console has the ability to use all fore to aft deck with easy usage, but also having a decent lower deck accommodation sleeping four.  The Tornado 43 WA will offer a deck with a central sun-pad layout which is followed by an L-shaped dinette, and then the helm station located central offset to starboard.  The fore deck will feature a forward V-shaped sun-pad, while another interesting feature will be the drop down bathing platform aft, which goes down in a three steps movement, making it easier and more comfortable to go down in the water.  The Tornado 43 WA will also be flexible for its power and propulsion choices, offered in four options, which start from twin Volvo 440hp on stern drives, and go to twin FPT 550hp on shafts, and then to 600hp with surface drives or same power gas power Mercury outboards.

New Model: Manda Yachts s05

Manda Yachts arrived in the scene in 2023 first with the s07 model in May at the Venice boat show, and then it followed it four months later with this new s05 which debuted during the Genoa boat show.  A project of Ceccarelli, Manda is an interesting new offer in the market, with a particular design which is difficult to categorize, feeling an explorer with a sport attitude.  Depends how you want to see it, probably Manda is both these things, although this new s05 probably is a bit more sporty, especially if spec'd with the bigger engines which give her a 32 knots top speed.  But forgetting speed aside Manda Yachts is a particular living yacht, with both the exterior and interior feeling spacious and liveable like a high end loft by the sea in just fifteen meters of length.  Manda Yachts s05 also comes as the bigger sister with the free aft deck which joins with the interior lower deck saloon, and while this is not something new; Sanlorenzo SX, BlueGame BGX, and Evo Yachts V-line have all been there before Manda, the s05 takes the credit for offering this in just fifteen meters of size.  The s05 offers a main deck covered with a T-top for the living part, this offering an L-shaped dinette to port side with wet-bar exterior galley and helm opposite to starboard, which is followed by a sun-pad aft and to fore deck and a forepeak forward looking settee.  The s05 lower deck uses about 70% of the space and is offered in three lower deck layout choices, with the standard plan featuring a two cabins two head layout with master cabin forward, and twin L-shaped bunk guest cabin to port side.  A single cabin option also exists, with the option of having a dinette area for four in replacement to the second cabin, and smaller L-shaped sofa.  The Manda s05 is offered with IPS propulsion only and powered by standard twin Volvo 480hp for up to 24 knots speeds, and larger 550 to 600hp engines option.

Ferretti Yacht Destroyed by Fire in Angra dos Reis Brazil

A seventeen meter Brazilian made Ferretti yacht titled m/y Nannaj 1 went ablaze in Ilha da Jipoia, Ilha Grande Bay, Angra dos Reis, Rio de Janiero, Brazil at 14:45 of Saturday twenty January.  Soldiers from the Angra barracks responded to the blaze which was extinguished just after 1700 hours.  No one was injured in the fire, with the amount of persons onboard the yacht and what caused the blaze not being reported.  The yacht was wrecked in the fire but it did not sink.
Nannaj 1 is a South American made Ferretti as designed by Zuccon and based on the 550 model as produced in Italy from 2004 till 2007.  The South American Ferretti's are distinct for having a larger and different aft deck stern layout.

Fratelli Aprea New Web Site

Fratelli Aprea presents its new website. Fratelli Aprea was founded in 1890 by master ship wright Cataldo, in the gulf of Sorrento.  Fratelli Aprea focus for a century has been that of building custom to order and repairing wooden traditional Gozzo's and small and medium size fishing boats.  An important turn around for Fratelli Aprea comes during World War II, when Franco Aprea decides to put used Jeep gasoline engines in a Gozzo, following the commissioning of boats by the US Army for a special mission. Fratelli Aprea enters fiberglass boat production in the nineties, with a key difference to the competition who build similar boats for using a semi-planning hull with a deep V-section forward, rather then a planning shape.  Today Frattelli Aprea offers eleven models of the Sorrento line which start from the pure gozzo looking 7,80 Tradizionale / Open and go up to the Sorrento 50 Cabinato.  In 2023 Fratelli Aprea also debuted its new Brunello Acampora designed Lancia centre console with traditional line series, which debuted with the 52 model, and is planned to feature four other models from ten to 22 meters in size.  Fratelli Aprea new web site is available in Italian and English language and takes you around with the following buttons; Home, Company, Gozzo Sorrentino, Design, Models, Charter, Service, Usato, and Contacts. Project: Alia Yachts 43m raised pilothouse

Alia Yachts in Turkey has started construction of a new 43-metre project with aggressive exterior lines by long-term design partners Omega Architects. In build for a client based in Miami, the design is styled around the relaxed, open-air lifestyle in Florida and the Bahamas. Omega has deliberately kept the profile low-rise and sleek with a menacing pelican-beak bow, helped by the raised pilothouse layout spread over two-and-a-half decks. With ample al fresco areas that include lounging and sunbathing on the aft deck, the foredeck, and the sundeck that also has a hottub, the new design takes the raised pilothouse configuration and stretches it to 42 metres and 380GT. The all-aluminium vessel has a shallow Bahamas draft and a Fast Displacement Hull Form known as FDHF by Van Oossanen, another of Alia’s Dutch design partners. The FDHF outperforms conventional displacement and semi-displacement hull forms at low, cruising and maximum speeds by providing high efficiency throughout the power curve. The interior comprises four guest suites on the lower deck, a master stateroom with walk-in wardrobe on the main deck forward. The lower deck further houses space for 7 crew as well as a very nice sized gym and side-loading tender garage. Sliding glass doors on both sides of the main saloon means there’s always a fresh breeze flowing through the interior. The interior design is by newcomers Yodezeen, a pair of designers from Kyiv with a studio in Miami. Powered by twin MTU 2600hp main engines, the yacht with have a top speed in excess of 22 knots and a range of 3,200 nautical miles at twelve knots. She is scheduled for delivery in summer 2024 and will make her debut at the autumn boat shows.

B is for Build Classic Riva Sinks

B is for Build vlog classic twelve meter Riva titled m/y B is for Boat sank on Thursday eighteen January in Riverplace Marina, Portland, Vancouver.  The cause of the sinking as reported on B is for Build YouTube vlog was a raw water inlet pipe in the engine room which froze due to cold weather, and a water filter cannister which cracked open with the ice.  B is for Build made two videos about the sinking, the  first going into the news about the sinking, and the second showing the re-float of the classic Riva.  B is for Boat was floated back in it's berth, with the plan being to take her to a boat yard, and Chris promising a rebuild of his classic Riva sport cruiser. 
B is for Boat is a 1990 Riva 43 Tropicana as designed by Giorgio Barilani, and produced from 1989 to 1997 in 53 units.  The 43 Tropicana shared hull with the 42 Malibu and 42 Caribe, with all this coming from a length extended 38 Bravo hull released in 1979.  B is for Boat was repowered in Spring 2021 with twin petrol gas LSX 750hp from previous Cummins 420hp diesels.

New Launch: Codecasa Classic Yacht 24 Hull F242

Codecasa Shipyards are pleased to announce the launching of the Classic Yacht 24, hull number F242 and titled by its ownership as m/y Vero. The launching of this classic looking Codecasa was made on Monday eighteen December 2023 in Viareggio. This beautiful classic inspired yacht is a unique and customized model built with love and passion exclusively for an Asian client introduced by Camper and Nicholsons. Codecasa hull F242 features classic looking lines and a timeless elegance, and is the result from Italian designer Luca Dini. The hull was designed by Names Studio of Francesco Rogantin in collaboration with Codecasa Shipyards and guarantees excellent performance. Powered by twin Man 1550hp engines Codecasa Classic Yacht 24 can reach maximum speeds of 25 knots and has a range over two thousand nautical miles at nine knots. The interiors feature a saloon and the owner’s stateroom on the main deck deck, with three en-suited guest cabins on the lower deck.  Two crew cabins with twin berths are located aft.  This project was initially presented by Cantieri di Pisa in 2016 as the Kitalpha 22, with the first unit announced sold in the Cannes show of that year.  Financial difficulties for Cantieri di Pisa meant the Kitalpha 22 construction never passed the initial project phase with Codecasa taking on Luca Dini project on 2020, extending it by two meters and modifying it to become the Classic Yacht 24.

Project: Tiara EX 54

Tiara present the project for a new EX 54, its second model of the EX line and what follows in less to two years the debut of the EX 60, the Holland Michigan boat builder current flagship and largest ever build to date.  A fully enclosed sport yacht with conservative looks and entertainment utilitarian amenities, the EX 54 is very similar to the EX 60 in both looks and substance albeit a bit smaller in size, and comes with the same modular aft cockpit selections, although in this new project these are reduced to three against the five of the two meters bigger sister. The EX 54 will feature the same three double cabins layout with two heads, with a full beam midships owners stateroom, a VIP suite forward, and third cabin with bunk berths layout.  The main deck is  reserved for entertainment, with flip down bulkheads serving the lower part of the aft cockpit. The three choices for the aft cockpit revolve the lower part in between the lower and two step upper part with choices involving the aft settee looking forward as standard, which can be ordered as an aft adventure unit, or glass patio with modular settee.  The Tiara EX 54 is to be powered by twin Volvo 725hp with IPS pod drives propulsion.

New Model: Itama 45RS

Itama 45RS came out in Summer 2023, a new update which follows the 45S presented in mid 2017, and the third version of the 45 model which debuted in 2011.  The new Itama 45RS features three important updates to the 45S, updated two cabin layout with larger shower head, renewed helm station dash, and flush hatches on the fore-deck.  The Itama 45RS cabin layout has been redesigned to offer a larger shower head, located in the same port-side area of the previous model, but now longer in length.  Ferretti Group did this by moving the galley to port side from starboard, and the L-shaped dinette the other way round.  The 45RS new helm station dashboard is redesigned to feature two twelve-inch multi-function displays which can be upgraded to twin sixteen-inch in the optional version.  The helm station is also now finished in carbon-fibre, with a wheel clad in fabric coordinated with the outdoor upholstery or alternatively on request in teak.  For the remaining the Itama 45RS keeps the features of the 45S, including the central windscreen opening which also creates a comfortable and safe passageway to the foredeck.  The Itama 45RS is powered like the 45S from twin Cummins 550hp on integrated U-drive line shafts for top speeds up to 34 knots, and a cruise of 29 knots for a range up to 200 nautical miles.

Lightning Strike Sets Sea Ray Yacht on Fire

A seventeen meter Sea Ray sport yacht titled m/y No Mas went on fire after it was struck by lightning while berthed in the canals of Cape Coral, Florida on Monday fifteen January.  A strong tornado with thunder storms and heavy rains hit South West Florida, causing damage and 64 cancelled and 173 delayed flights on the day.  Cape Coral Fire Department fast responded to the fire, saving the Sea Ray from fully burning down.  
The same Sea Ray seventeen meter sport yacht returned to social media news as it was reported in colliding with piers and other boats in a towing on the thirtieth March.  
No Mas is a 2007 Sea Ray 55 Sundancer, as produced from 2007 till 2009.  The Sea Ray 55 Sundancer came out as a replacement to the 550 Sundancer, and evolved into the 580 Sundancer in the fall of 2009, recognizable by the hull window glazing and the up-down extended bathing platform.

New Model: Omikron Yachts OT-60

Olympic Marine a renowned Greek ship-yacht repair yard presents its Omikron Yachts brand, debuting its first OT-60 production model. Designed by Juan Kouyoumdjian for hull shape, Lorenzo Argento exterior and interior, Ciarmoli Queda interior style the Omikron OT-60 proposes a vision of sustainability by combining the quiet, easy-going lifestyle and efficiency of sailing with the convenience and space of a motor yacht, renewing the slow explorer yachting and traditional Eastern Mediterranean seagoing style.  With efficient engines and a custom efficient hull design by Juan Kouyoumdjian the OT-60 is optimized for cruising at ten to tewelve knots, while eight knots will give a 1000 nautical miles range, consuming just 1.5 litres per nautical mile. Both the propulsion and hull shape are optimized for minimum disturbance, for a silent, stable and serene cruising experience which becomes a time to relax and recharge, as on a sailboat. The exterior design and the interior layout are the work of Lorenzo Argento, interior styling is curated by Ciarmoli Queda Studio. Solaris Power presents its new web site.  Solaris Power arrived in 2019 as the motor boat and yachting arm of Solaris sailing yachts.  Solaris started out as the sailing yacht brand of Se.Ri.Gi which was founded in 1974 by Puntin and De Cesco in Aquileia by the River Natissa, on the Northern East part of Italy and the Adriatic sea, what is still the home for sail yachts production.  In the first two years Serigi is a sub-contractor to other builders fitting out sailing boats mostly those for Benello from Livorno, debuting the Solaris name and its first sailing yacht, the 37 designed by Frans Maas three years later in 1977. The first Solaris is followed by a second 47 model designed by Sparkman and Stephens in 1979, which was based on the Illiria 46 from Benello who ceases operation in 1977 following the dead of Giacomo Benello the owner.  Solaris will keep expanding its sailing yacht line with a Frans Maas designed 39 in 1981, and the Zero line as designed by Doug Peterson which debuts with the 65 model in 1987 and is followed by a raised saloon Zero 76 in 1995.  In 2001 Solaris presents a fully dedicated racing sail machine with the IMS 52 Mascalzone Latino as designed by Bruce Farr.  In 2006 Solaris debuts its modern looking Bill Tripp designed 48 model, showing the North East Italian builder new design language.  The current Solaris sail yachts designer Javier Soto starts in 2013 with the 72 Classic, evolving Tripp's design language and since then has designed all the sailing yachts by the North East Italy yacht builder from fifteen to 33 meters.  Giuseppe Giuliani takes over Solaris in the end of 2010, and since then has expanded it to ever new heights, not only by expanding the sailing yacht line but by also debuting the motor boat Power line in 2019, and purchasing semi-custom sail yacht specialist CNB which was founded in 1987 and since 1992 has been owned by Beneteau Group.  Giuliani enters boat building in 1973, when he funds Cantieri del Pardo Grand Soleil, and in 1998 will also buy Dufour from France, to then sell all to a US investment firm in 2006.  Solaris first motor boat comes in 1997 when it gets a one off commission for a traditional down-east lobster boat looking 47 Express Cruiser as designed by Bruce King and build in cold moulding.  After this one off motor boat it will take 22 years for Solaris Power to arrive with Giuliani first updating his high-end Performance Boats establishment in Forli he created in 2008 to accommodate motor boat construction, and team up with Norberto Ferretti and yacht designer and naval architect Brunello Acampora.  Norberto will leave the project in 2020, while Brunello Acampora has since then designed all the eleven models of the Power line.  Solaris Power line debuts with the 55 Lobster in early 2019 which is followed by the 48 Open on the fall of that same year, 48 Flybridge in 2020, and the 48 Lobster in early 2021.  Solaris Power currently offers eleven models divided into the three; Open, Coupe and Lobster, and Flybridge lines, which start from the 40 Open and go up to the still in project 60 Open, with its latest model being the 52 Open which was presented in 2023. In 2019 Solaris Power also showed a project for a 78 Lobster, although its current largest build to date is the 57 Lobster which debuted the Power line in 2019, then named as the 55 Lobster model. Project: Antonini Seamore 33

Antonini Navi announces the sale for the semi-custom 33 metre Seamore.  A new superyacht chosen by an Italian owner, with a planned launch for early 2025, and then to be presented at the Cannes Yachting Festival in the fall of that year.  Seamore 33 is the first of a semi-custom series built in steel and aluminium.  With this new order, the La Spezia-based shipyard, founded in 2020 by Gruppo Antonini in partnership with Aldo Manna, sets a wider-ranging project in motion that will see Antonini Navi build and market this model, with its original, trendy styling, as a series-produced but highly customisable product.  Gruppo Antonini and Antonini Navi’s know-how in steel and aluminium metalwork will make it possible, starting from the same platform to modify the superstructure and sections of the hull, thanks in part to the intrinsic characteristics of the metal.  The project will be developed by the shipyard’s Technical Office together with Hydro Tec on exterior line design, naval architecture and engineering, while Hot Lab will handle interior designs.  The hull profile features a high, dominant bow that gives the design a sleek and sporty feel, while the volumes of the superstructure contribute to an elegant, maritime look.  The concept involves areas designed to be totally versatile and flexible, giving priority to open spaces that create unique settings for sharing and conviviality among guests. One of the most interesting features of Seamore 33 is the more than 150-square-metre open-air living space on the main deck, much of which can be closed off if needed by sliding pocket windows fitted flush with the deck.  Starting from the stern platform and extending for over 18 metres towards the bow, the unit offers a unique perception of the yacht’s seamless spaces and volumes. This huge outdoor area is joined by a further 160 square metres of al fresco space on the upper deck, of which 50 are shaded by an elegant hard-top.  The interiors stand out for their unique design, featuring a perfect balance between classic elegance and modern innovation, where strong, noble teak wood plays a key role paired with delicate pastel colours that tend towards shades of sage green, creating an atmosphere of calm and harmony with the sea.  These successes consolidate Antonini Navi as a niche brand in the construction of luxury custom super yachts

New Model: Princess Y80

During the Cannes 2023 boat show in September, Princess debuted the new Y80, a pocket super yacht which replaces the Y78 after three years in production.  The new Y80 is the second sized Princess's four model Y-range which starts with the Y72 and goes up to the Y95 which launched in the end of 2022.  The Y80 is designed by automotive famous Italian Pininfarina studio and naval architecture coming from the four decades plus collaboration with Olesinski.  For this pocket-sized super yacht Pininfarina and Princess presented a very clean profile for a Mediterranean style both inside and outside, and a soft S-shear line which goes up slightly forward.  Below is also a traditional four cabins layout with the usual full beam owners stateroom at midships, a VIP suite forward, and two guest cabins in between.  The saloon gives an open space feel, further enhanced by the uninterrupted views provided by the floor to ceiling windows.  There is a certain cleanliness of the design which makes it modern yet cosy without feeling minimal.  The main deck also comes with a few options from the standard open galley which can be ordered to become enclosed by electrical move-up panels, and a choice for the aft deck, from the standard traditional forward looking C-shaped dinette to a veranda styled and glazed stern for open views.  The Princess Y80 is standard powered by twin Man 1650hp for speeds up to 29 knots and or 1900hp option for an extra three knots at wide open throttle.

Project: Galeon 480 Fly

Galeon continue to renew its thirteen to seventeen meter range, and after debuting the 560 and 440 Fly models in 2023, comes with the project for a new 480 Fly.  The latest Galeon models are recognizable by the endless glazing on the hull sides, and comes as a replacement to the 2016 launched 460 Fly.  Designed as most Galeon's of the last twenty or so years by Tony Castro, the 480 Fly features the Polish builders deck expansion flip over bulk-head tricks, port-side as standard with the starboard being an option, with an astern galley main deck layout, and three double cabins lower deck, with a full beam midships owners stateroom.  The Galeon 480 Fly is powered by twin Volvo 440hp which go up to optional 600hp engines.  It is not understood if IPS will be an option, but the first unit which is under going final construction phase is powered by shaft drives.  The Galeon 480 Fly is scheduled to debut in mid 2024.

Benetti Super Yacht Partly Sinks in Fort Royal Isle Fort Lauderdale

A 35 meter Benetti super yacht titled m/y Pour Another partly sank near Fort Royal Isle and 34th Avenue, Fort Lauderdale at about 04:00 hours on the morning of tenth January.  The partly sank Benetti was assisted by Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue in the morning who responded with a dozen first responders and also surrounded the yacht with a pollution protection boon, with SeaTow coming later on the scene to re-float the yacht.  SeaTow reported no pollution happened from the partly sank yacht, with a small fuel spill occurring inside the bilges.  After the floating the Benetti yacht was planned to be taken about five nautical miles South at a yacht yard in New River for repairs.  The Benetti yacht was reported as doing maintenance works in its bilges on the evening before, with the crew noticing it going down in the early hours of the morning.  Pour Another is currently listed for sale at 5.2 million US$.
M/y Pour Another is a 2003 Benetti Classic 115 model as designed by Stefano Righini and produced from 1998 to 2006 in 27 units.  The Classic 115 was Benetti's first entry for a semi-production fiberglass series.  The Classic 115 was evolved and replaced by the Classic 120 in 2007, and then again into the Classic 121 in 2011.

New Model: Magazzu M16

In December 2023, Magazzu launched its awaited modern and different first M16 unit.  Designed by Claudio Magazzu the M16 distinct's itself from previous Magazzu, offering a different and radical look, and is also build with semi-rigid tubes, and a full deep walk around design.  This  new Magazzu flagship feels less a rib, and more a yacht then previous models.  The Magazzu will also feature, thanks to its deep walk around design a full fore to aft deck use, with a centre console layout and exterior galley and dinette behind and covered by the T-top.  The cabin layout of the Magazzu M16 welcomes you below deck with an L-shaped settee, and features a master cabin forward, and a guest double berth at midships with two heads. The Magazzu M-16 hull one is powered by twin Volvo 600hp with IPS pod drives, with an option for triple 600hp Mercury outboards and speeds up to fifty knots being available.

Projects: Sialia 59 Runabout, Sialia 59 Sport, Sialia 59 Weekender

Following the launch of the Sialia 57 Deep Silence in 2023, this Polish yacht builder is a new name aiming at specializing in electric yachts powered by the Ampros electric propulsion.  The Sialia 59 platform is offered in three hull variants; Runabout, Sport and Weekender, with this last version being under construction and scheduled for a 2024 launch.  The Sialia 59s, like the 57 come from a design of Denis Popov with hull lines designed by Vripack, followed by an extra light carbon fibre construction.
