Sea Ray Ends Beached in Lago Maggiore

A nine meter Sea Ray sport cruiser ended beached in the Camporella area of Lago Maggiore in the North of Italy on the evening night of 21 July.  A costly error of navigation which according to reports from the area made the sport cruiser do about thirty meters in low water before ending aground, mostly because the Lake is currently sitting about one meter less in tide to what is on current electronic charts.
The Sea Ray in this beaching is a 305 Sundancer as produced from 2009 to 2017, strictly for the European market, but based on the 2003 launched 315 Sundancer with some design differences, like the radar arch, port holes, and the addition of a three part hard-top option. The 305 Sundancer was replaced by the Sea Ray 320 Sundancer.

New Launch: Heesen 67m YN 20067

Heesen has launched YN 20067, named m/y Sparta. At 66 metres, YN 20067 is Heesen largest steel super yacht so far. Sparta grew out of the Project Avanti concept which Heesen presented with Winch Design at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2018. YN 20067 immediately impressed for its yacht's athletic lines, and the design has remained true to the original concept, with only minor adjustments made to the swimming pool. Winch Design expertly incorporated Heesen's DNA to create a unique, low-profile, sporty, and elegant yacht that looks simply stunning on the water. YN 20067 sports a classic Snow White livery with a contemporary touch: metallic Venetian red and metallic anthracite grey accents that give her a particularly dashing look. The super yacht's profile is characterised by a reverse bow, augmenting her apparent length and emphasising her slender form, which is complimented by a bold and assertive sweep of thermo-bonded tinted glass from bow to stern.  The lifestyle on board YN 20067 revolves around family and togetherness. The centre of the social whirl is on the main deck aft, where a full-beam main saloon connects perfectly with the low, open-air beach terrace for enjoying life in and next to the sea. A transformer passerelle platform provides easy access to the water, while the 6.5m infinity pool is also a breath-taking sight, offering a visual link between onboard life and the vastness of the ocean.  This Heesen super yacht outdoor spaces feature custom-designed furniture by Winch Design and beautifully crafted by Siebensee and Leerdam. A matching custom limo tender, a mini version of the mothership, is conveniently stored, along with the water toys, behind the gullwing doors of the forward garage.  Winch Design made the most of the yacht's generous 1,200 GT interior volume. The general arrangement boasts two separate owner's suites on a private deck and four guest suites on the main deck. A movable partition separates the forward suites to create a full-beam VIP or a large playroom for younger family members. An elegant staircase and glass elevator serve all three decks. The lower deck is home to a 65 sqm wellness area, Japanese-inspired, featuring an elliptical whirlpool, steam room, sauna, gym, and beauty area. Carefully considered movement flows throughout the accommodation areas will allow the crew to work efficiently and unobtrusively.  The Winch Design interior is based around three different elements, with each deck representing a different component: the lower deck is themed around water, the main deck around earth, and the upper deck around air. Linking all the elements are the staggered panels of an oak staircase by London furniture maker Alex Hull, with vertical lighting to bring its intricate carving to life.  The earth-themed main saloon features dining chairs with seat backs upholstered in real palm leaf. In the relaxed seating area, a large coffee table takes centre stage, made from two parts of a dark-stained trunk of oak, and featuring a leaf-shaped, forest green marble top with a leather finish, to provide a tactile and 3D effect.  The décor of the master suite on the upper deck aft beautifully captures the lightness of air, using soft fabrics, sky blues, mother-of-pearl inlays and an abstract patterned Tai Ping carpet. In contrast, the forward section is centred around the theme of space, with a constellation wall artwork as the focal point.  YN 20067 stunning interior features exquisite cabinetwork created by Heesen Yachts Interiors, with technical areas and crew quarters crafted at the shipyard. Heesen is one of the few shipyards in the world to own its fine cabinet-making company in Winterswijk in the eastern Netherlands.  Heesen 67m YN 20067 will now undergo the final commissioning phases in our harbour before heading to the North Sea for intensive sea trials.

New Model: Wally Why150

During the Venice 2023 boat show, Wally debuted its Why150 model.  Just five centimetres over 24 meters in length, the WallyWhy150 is the second model in a range which follows the provocative three meters larger fifty GT more volume Why200 launched in 2021.  With the same team of designers of Bassani for exterior lines and concept, Vallicelli for the interiors, and Ferretti Group for engineering as the larger Why200 sister, the principle of the Why150 is the same, that to put as much usable volume in size possible.  To do this WallyWhy150 is again a full wide body design with its main selling point being again the owners stateroom on the forward part of the main deck which gives three quarters circle uninterrupted views.  A unique master stateroom not found in larger sized super yachts.  The WallyWhy150 though again strikes a unique balance of offering uninterrupted inside and outside spaces, especially on the main deck which offers open spaces which can be fitted as desired by its owner during build, and can be designed to carry a tender up to four meters in length.  The WallyWhy150 is powered by standard triple Volvo 900hp engines with IPS pod drives for speeds up to 21 knots and or optional 1000hp and 23 knots of max speed.  Though provocative and futuristic as Wally can be, the Why series is gaining fans with five units of the Why200 sold thus far, and two more units of Why150 ordered on plan.

In the early afternoon of Thursday thirteen July a fifteen meter Azimut motor yacht called a may-day for assistance as it was taking water in its engine room and in risk of sinking.  The Azimut motor yacht left Livorno harbour going direction Cecina, with two persons onboard, when the helmsman noticed that the Azimut yacht slowed down and started to ride bow high.  The Azimut yacht was assisted by two Guardia Costiera vessels, the CP 867 which came from Livorno and the GC B60 fast rib from Cecina, who after calming down the two crew, assisted the yacht to Cecina where a travel lift was ready to take the Azimut up for inspection and eventual repairs.
The Azimut in this near sinking is a 50 Fly as designed by Stefano Righini and produced since 2014.  The Azimut 50 Fly came out as a replacement to the 48.

Project: Michael Rybovich 70 Sportfisherman Hull #9

Michael Rybovich has in the end of 2022 starting to build its ninth hull, what will be a 70 Sportfisherman.  Fully custom and to be build in the jig method, Michael Rybovich hull nine will offer a four cabin with three heads interior, with an owners stateroom located forward, and a VIP suite located at midships on starboard side.  The living like most sportfish yachts of this size is on the main deck with a galley forward to starboard featuring a central bar alley, dinette opposite to port, and welcoming sofa on entrance.  Michael Rybovich 70 Sportfisherman is to be powered by twin Cats 2000hp.  Speed estimates are not given, but 68 Sportfisherman Hull#3 had a top speed of 42 knots in a smaller two foot length and one of beam and slightly less powerful engines.  So expect the 70 Sportfisherman Hull#9 wide open throttle numbers around the forty mark.

Pursuit Hits Stuart Sand Bar

A ten meter express sportfish cruiser ended aground when it hit a sand bar in Stuart Florida on the late morning of eleven July.  A video doing the rounds on social media shows the sportfish doing sustained planning speeds when it practically stopped to a standstill in a space of a few seconds.  BoatU.s. assisted the express sportfish and surprisingly and thanks to a careful removal it had very little damage, and left the spot with its own steam.  In the same area or very close by a sand bar nearly sank a fifteen meter sportfish in end February and was saved by the same BoatU.s. team.
The sportfish express in this grounding is a Pursuit 3400 Express as produced from 1997 till 2002.  The 3400 Express is one of the few inboard made Pursuit powered by twin diesel engines on shafts.

Project: Sunreef 44 Ultima

During the fall 2022 Sunreef presented its new Ultima range, first with a 55 and now with this smaller 44, which was first announced as a 45. The Sunreef Ultima range presents itself as a fast power catamaran range, designed with hybrid propulsion showing Francis Lapp leadership in offering forward thinking catamarans of all types.  The Sunreef 44 Ultima will offer a large aft deck with openable side bulk heads extending size by about fifty per cent in this area.  Living is to be under the hard-top on the main deck, with a dinette to port side and galley opposite, with dual seat central console helm station forward.  Accommodation is located below with the two hull offering identical double berths with a private shower head layout.  Sunreef has not announced any engine data or performance numbers for its Ultima range, although the photos show them going fast and press releases call them as eco-speedsters, so imagine speed above thirty knots for this 44 Ultima.

Flybridge Cruiser Sinks in Manfredonia

A fourteen meter flybridge cruiser titled m/y Antonella under Italian flag partially sank while moored and unattended at the yacht marina in Manfredonia, on Italy's eastern Adriatic coast on the early morning of July tenth.  The flybridge cruiser was later in the day recovered, by the Mandredonia marina yacht yard.  Some unconfirmed reports are saying the flybridge cruiser sank from a failing generator raw water inlet.
The flybridge cruiser in this sinking is an Ars Mare Advantage 140 as designed by Fulvio de Simoni and produced from 1994 till about 2004.  The Ars Mare Advantage 140 was updated with a sleeker radar arch and other modifications in the year 2000.  Unfortunately Ars Mare stopped producing in around 2007 which is a pity cause it build solid and nice cruisers.

New Model: Vicem 65 Classic Flybridge

Turkish boatbuilder Vicem Yachts has a new addition to its strong fleet of cruisers and yachts with the new 65 Classic Flybridge going into the water. The Vicem 65 Classic Flybridge prides itself on a timeless design inspired to DownEast lobster boats, total customization from construction in fiberglass or cold moulding and shafts or IPS pod propulsion, and excellence in craftsmanship. Those three characteristics run throughout its fleet, but perhaps nowhere are they more evident than aboard this new 65 Classic Flybridge.  This twenty meter Vicem offers an accommodation with two plus one stateroom layout, with an owners amidships master stateroom anda VIP suite forward.  In between the two suites is a galley and a dining/lounge room, with this dinette converting into an enclosed third cabin complete with sliding doors for privacy.  The Vicem 65 Classic Flybridge main deck has a massive, full-teak cockpit with an L-shaped settee and a second dining table for alfresco dinners. The salon has another L-shaped settee, plus additional seating, and excellent natural light thanks to large windows. The two spaces are connected via a door with a frameless, electric window that creates a feeling of openness and continuity. An aft galley in the salon has a small bar area with a sink, icebox, and icemaker that services two alfresco Besenzoni bar stools. Throughout all of these areas, Vicem’s trademark woodwork is on display. The builder relies on years of Turkish craftsmanship to produce beautifully appointed woods which are hard to find in the industry.  As for the boat’s namesake flybridge, there is a wetbar and barbecue, a third L-shaped settee, which can convert into a sunpad and the second outdoor helm.  The first Vicem 65 Classic Flybridge was powered by twin Volvo 725hp with line shaft propulsion which give a twenty knots top speed, though bigger 1000hp engines fitted IPS pod drives will take wide open throttle speeds to 32 knots.  Another feature of this hull #one is a Lithium battery set up which can operate the boat for fifteen hours with the use of generator.

Flybridge Cruiser Goes Ablaze in Gozo Marina

A fourteen meter flybridge cruiser titled Tiffany went ablaze in Mgarr marina Gozo, at around 18:30 hours of Saturday eight July.  The owners had just boarded the fourteen meter flybridge cruiser when it went on fire.  Malta Civil Protection from a boat and the marina pontoon controlled and then contained the fire onboard the vessel and with the help from Mgarr Marina personnel also stopped it from spreading to other vessels, with the only Gozo island yacht harbour being particularly busy in Summer weekends, and a Saturday evening in July.   One of the fire fighters fighting the blaze was treated for injuries.  The cause of the fire are not reported, with an investigation currently underway. Colombo New Web Site

Colombo presents its new website.  Founded by Giacomo Colombo in 1956, he signs the yard as custom in Italy in those times with his surname.  Born 1931 and passionate about boats Giacomo starts to work in ship building as an apprentice, moving to work with Abbate and then with Cranchi, up until 1956 when he decides to go on his own.  He starts with a boat service centre Colombo Menaggio which in 1962 becomes the Riva Boat Service of Mennagio, assisting and servicing the famous runabouts from Sarnico. In 1969 along with long time friend Antonio Ornelli, Giacomo starts series production first in wood, then offering models in both wood and fibreglass, to switch totally to the new material of the time by the end seventies. Colombo was acquired by the Sarnico Group in Summer 2007. The current Colombo range offers eleven models and starts from the 25 Super Indios and goes up to the 40 Bellagio. Colombo was also a pioneer for fitting out its sports cruisers with mahogany finish outside but structurally build of fiberglass. Rybovich Yacht Collision South to Martha's Vineyard, New York

A sixteen meter custom Rybovich sportfish yacht collided with a twelve meter express sportfish cruiser titled Salty Seas, south of Martha's Vineyard island to the North of New York on the morning of Saturday eight July.  According to reports the Rybovich yacht was fast cruising at about twenty knots in poor visibility, while the smaller express sportfish cruiser was fighting a tuna.  Luckily no one was injured in this collision, with the Rybovich suffering the worst outcome, as it breached its hull breach by eight meters to its starboard side.  Salty Seas the other boat in the collision suffered a disintegrated pulpit, outrigger damage, and some minor fiberglass dings.  The sixteen meter Rybovich was later towed and taken to a yard for an evaluation of the damage.  A couple months later Michael Rybovich reported on his monthly newsletter that the yacht was destined for scrap even though he offered to save her, with the insurance not getting it that she could be saved.
The Rybovich in this collision is the 54 hull #123 from 2007 and launched as Lizzy Bee, the fourth unit build for a repeat Rybovich customer.  The same repeat customer is currently in his fifth Rybovich, with the 64 Walkaround the first hull of the Micheal Rybovich and Sons era.  Founded in 1919 and building its first boat in 1947 Rybovich from Florida is considered as one of the most exclusive and prestigious custom sportfish builders.
The other boat in this collision is an Albermarle 410 Express as produced since 2002, currently renamed as 41 Custom Carolina Edition.

Sea Ray Sport Cruiser Ends Aground in Lake Ozarks

A twelve meter Sea Ray sport cruiser ended aground in Lake of the Ozarks 8mm West side on the morning of Saturday eight July.  This freak accident is not fully reported but by the way the Sea Ray cruiser ended aground, with most of the hull out of the water it probably was under way at a bit of speed.  The released anchor was made there for safety.  The Sea Ray cruiser was not removed up until two days after the accident, which probably looks like the damage is worse then it looks.  Lake of the Ozarks is in the Missouri region, in the centre of the United States of America.
The Sea Ray in this accident is a second generation 420 Sundancer model produced from 2003 till 2006, from 2004 with the hard-top as this unit.  The 420 Sundancer evolved into the 44 Sundancer in the fall of 2006 with the visible difference being the addition of three vertical port holes in the hull sides.

One Man Injured in Boat Fire at Edgar Evins Marina

One man was treated for severe smoke and heat inhalation injuries after a boat fire which developed on his ten meter sport cruiser in Edgar Evins Marina, DeKalb County, Tennessee at around 21:30 hours of Friday seven July.  DeKalb County Fire Department and Smithville-DeKalb County Rescue Squad responded to the fire, with the boat first burning away from other boats, but then unfortunately after burning its mooring lines drifted to pier C, and minor damaged four other boats until the fire fighting crew attached a tow line and towed her away to a safe area near the shore.  The injured man aboard the boat was first treated by Edgar Evins State Park rangers and DeKalb County Emergency Medical Services before being transported by air medical helicopter for advanced care.  An investigation on the fire is ongoing by the US Army Corps of Engineers, with some unofficial reports stating the fire started from a short in the air-conditioning unit.
The boat in this fire is a Wellcraft 3400 Express as produced from 1985 till 1992.  The 3400 Express was a replacement to the 3400 Gran Sport, and was replaced by the Wellcraft 3500 Corsair.

Project: Astondoa AX8

Since April Astondoa has started a campaign for the launch of its next upcoming model the AX8.  The AX8 apart being a new model will also be a fresh range and style for Astondoa, and what looks in these initial renderings as an explorer inspired motor yacht with huge exterior stern spaces.  The Astondoa AX series looks set to challenge the likes of Sanlorenzo SX series, ISA Extra, and Sunseeker Ocean line.  So far Astondoa is very quiet on details on a yacht which might do its official debut in the fall 2023 boat shows.
