Project: Benetti B.Neos 40m

During the 2025 Cannes Yachting Festival Benetti presented the B.Neos project, a reportedly but not confirmed forty meter super yacht concept.  B.Neos embraces the proportions and silence of sailing yachts, favouring instead the pleasure of the essential and beauty of simplicity.  Coming from the Greek word néos, meaning new young and fresh the Benetti B.Neos is designed by Malcolm McKeon for exteriors who brings classic chic lines, with interiors by Francesca Muzio FM Architettura. Both the designers focused in offering a motor yacht with fluid lines and spaces, and an intelligent layout embracing classicality with a modern twist. B.Neos focuses on a new generation of owners, a philosophy for a smart yacht, technological, unconventional, that redefines the traditional codes of super yachts.  Instead of the relentless pursuit of volume, see no wide body main deck, with a smooth S-shear line B.Neos offers an intelligent distribution of space, designed for an owner who rejects the superfluous in favour of a more direct and functional experience, where technology makes it possible to enjoy silence thanks the standard hybrid propulsion.  So far it is not understood if a Benetti B.Neos is under construction, or this was an offered inbuild project, with technical details beside the designers name, and hybrid type propulsion being the only information provided.  Also it is not reported if the Benetti B.Neos is to be build of fiberglass, aluminium, or steel.

Sea Ray Cruiser and Two Boaters Saved in Fjallbacka, Sweden

Two boaters were rescued as an eight meter Sea Ray sport cruiser lost power and ended on the rocks near Fjallbacka, Sweden before 20:00 of Thursday ninth October.  After receiving an alarm from the Sea and Air Rescue Center the Swedish Sea Rescue Society goes to the assistance of the Sea Ray cruiser with the RS Fjällbacka vessel.  As they arrived to the Sea Ray cruiser the rescue vessel finds it hitting the hard reefs in a perilous situation.  The conditions are challenging, but the Fjallbacka lifeguards who were in the middle of an exercise before the call act calmly and manage to pull the Sea Ray cruiser out to safe deep water.  After this they control the damage, and although the hull has taken a beating, it is not taking water, as the Sea Ray sport cruiser is then towed to a safe harbour in challenging seas with high waves.
The Sea Ray in this accident is the 268 Sundancer as produced from 1986 to 1989.  The 268 Sundancer was a replacement to the SRV260 Sundancer, and was replaced by the second generation Sea Ray 250 Sundancer.

Project: Princess 106 Odyssey

Princess Yachts, the UK’s largest luxury yacht manufacturer, has announced its return to the thirty meters plus superyacht segment with the announcement of the 106 Odyssey project at the 2025 Monaco Yacht Show.  A bit of Princess super yachting history, the Plymouth yacht builder entered 24 meters plus sizes in 2001 when it launched the 25M, this was followed by always expanding sizes and under one hundred foot for a decade, that is when Princess buys part of the Devonport Naval Base in 2011, and enters thirty meters plus sizes in that same year debuting the 32M.  The 32M is followed by the largest Princess to date, the 40M, and then by the smaller 35M and 30M.  In total 38 yachts were build in eight years over thirty meters with the most successful being the 30M sold in fifteen units, and the 35M the least as it was delivered in seven hulls.  The 106 Odyssey marks the return for Princess in the thirty meter plus segment after an absence since 2019, and is the first model in a forthcoming range of larger yachts with a more ship like exploring presence, unlike the previous M range which had sleek modern lines. The 106 Odyssey is a super yacht designed to deliver more volume to square meter for its size, and will offer numerous interior configurations, possible from an innovative layout, and a range of optional packages to ensure customer choice is both simplified and wide-ranging. Princess say the 106 Odyssey is engineered for distance and long range, although thus far with this first project announcement they have advised no distance capability details, but they are saying it will feature a hybrid fast displacement hull.  As layout goes the main deck features an expansive cockpit and transom with flexible furniture and drop-down balconies designed to adapt effortlessly to every occasion. The owner’s suite includes a private lounge or ante-room, a dressing area, and a spa-inspired en-suite bathroom, while the upper deck offers configurable layouts with bespoke furniture options, an optional spa bath, and floor-to-ceiling windows and skylights that create a bright, airy sanctuary. The lower deck is to feature a full-beam VIP stateroom that can be transformed into two en suite double cabins, providing up to four elegant guest cabins in total. Crew quarters are located forward and include three cabins for five crew members, including a private Captain’s cabin and a welcoming crew mess.

Fifty Meter Classic Super Yacht Fire Damaged Near Agropoli, Italy

The classic fifty meter super yacht Espadarte under Valletta Malta flag was saved from a fire as it was cruising about seventeen nautical miles offshore to the coast of Agropoli, in the Cilentan Coast of the Tyrrhenian sea to the South of Naples, on the late morning of Thursday ninth October.  The Maltese flagged super yacht which also had sixteen persons onboard between crew and guests was assisted by two Guard Costiera vessels departing from Agropoli and Marina di Camerrota respectively, both of them carrying Vigili dell Fuoco fire fighting squads. The crew with assistance from a nearby boater also tried to control the fire before the Italian Guardia Costiera Coast Guard arrived, but had no success.  When the Guardia Costiera arrived the first operation was putting the sixteen persons to safety, and then to control the fire, which they did with success.  Following this the classic super yacht, which was handicapped and without power was towed to the harbour of Salerno, arriving there at 02:00 early hours of the following day.  For the towing operation to the harbour, the Port Captaincy of Salerno ordered that the Vigili del Fuoco squad remain onboard, due to the high risk of the fire re-igniting.  The blaze was reported as starting and confined to the engine room, as the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Motor Yacht Espadarte is a custom 50 meters as build by Portugal's Arsenal do Alfeite yard in 1968, to military specifications and exterior design by Jorge d’Almeida Araujo.  Espadarte has had some high profile owners over the years, from its first commissioner which was reported but never confirmed to be the then Prime Minister of the Estado Novo regime of Portugal.  After the fall of Portugal's New Order in 1974 the yacht was sold to Saudi-based Sheikh Mouffak al-Midani, who will in the nineties sell to Greek TV station and shipowner John Karageorgis.  Espadarte was last refitted by Lusben in 2018.

New Model: Lancia Aprea 42

Lancia Aprea follows its first 52 model act with the smaller 42 which debuted at the 2025 Cannes boat show.  Again a design of Brunello Acampora, the smaller 42 follows the theme of the bigger sister, in bringing a walk around sport cruiser in a classic theme.  A lancia Sorrentina in form, although both the 42 and 52 augment the details; from the curved tumble home stern to the extra flared bow, all this make the Lancia Aprea a unique offer in the always more competitive walk around cruiser market.  Like its bigger sister the Lancia Aprea 42 is again a very semi custom offer, from ten unique color for the hulls, the first unit featured a unique Aurora Gold, and the choice theme continuing inside the cabin.  For example hull one had a forward double berth which can be spec'd as a U-shaped dinette which transforms to a double berth, and a midships cabin with twin berths and can be ordered as a double.  Other endless options come also to the power and propulsion; which start from twin 320 and go up to 440hp for the inboards, and propulsion choices of stern drives, to IPS pod drives, line shafts, and outboards with twin or triple's set up.  The outboard version is to be most powerful and faster of the choices; available with twin or triple Honda and Mercury from 350 to 400hp, giving maximum speeds up to 45 knots.

Galeon New Web Site

Galeon presents its new web site. Founded in 1982 by Wieczysław Kobylko, also known as Janek, for Galeon it is a small start which will lead to an important growth into the years, that will make it one of Europe's important and innovative production boat and yacht builders. In the beginning Galeon started building small dinghies and fiberglass fishing boats. In 1992 Galeon starts its path to growth as it gets a contract to build boats for a French boat manufacturer. In 1996 Galeon launches the 280 Fly with inboards, soon followed by the 380 Fly, an important step which shows the way forward to build its own cabin cruisers of important dimensions. In 2002 Galeon will split the small outboard boats into the Galia brand, which today builds eight models from four to seven meters. 2003 marks the start of the still ongoing collaboration with British yacht designer Tony Castro, who debuts with the at 440 Fly, Galeon flagship model for a couple years. In the fall of 2006 Galeon presents its first yacht over fifty foot 530 Fly model, this is followed a year later by the larger 640 Fly twenty meter flagship, in 2009 by the 700 Raptor, and then the 780 Fly in 2011. For eleven years the 780 Fly will be Galeon largest model, that is until the 800 Fly arrives in 2022. While going bigger has been important to upscale the image of Galeon, the Polish builder boldest step came in 2015 as it introduced the 500 Fly with folding bulk heads expanding the aft deck entertainment spaces. Although the folding or expanding bulkheads solutions were used by other boat builders in the sporty and super yacht segment, the 500 Fly was the first flybridge yacht to use such solutions. This proved to be a winner for Galeon as the company started to use the expanding space solution on nearly all the models above twelve meters in size. Other important steps for Galeon was expanding its production facilities in Gdansk, while in 2012 Jacek Kobylko, Wieczyslaw son takes over the direction of the company. In 2014 Galeon also enters the North American market, with this step becoming an important growth decision as it signs exclusive representation with MarineMax in 2016. Currently Galeon produces 23 models in six lines; GTO/GTI, Hardtop, Sport Cruiser, Flybridge, Skydeck, and Explorer. Galeon's offer starts with the just arrived 335 GTO, and goes up to the 800 Fly, with its latest offer being the 430 Explorer, and 620 Fly. Galeon's new website takes you around with the following buttons; About Us, News and Events, Yachts, and Find A Dealer. Galeon is also on social media with bottom right buttons taking you to its Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Issuu pages.

New Launch: Alia Yachts 53m ALY531

Alia Yachts has at the start of 2025 completed another exceptional custom yacht in the form of the 53m hull number ALY531 and code during build as Project Sea Club, and now renamed as m/y Limerence. The owner took delivery of the finished yacht in January after a demanding construction process that was only possible thanks to exemplary teamwork from designers, suppliers, owner’s rep, and Alia Yachts.  Alia Yachts ALY531 is totally unique in the truest sense, with every detail developed specifically for a new breed of yacht. The concept born as a support vessel quickly evolved into an utilitarian steel and aluminium project capable of carrying a treasure-chest of toys but also boasting superyacht standard guest accommodation and seductive open deck space. It also had to be efficient to operate, with a fast, sea-kindly hull and a truly oceanic range for off-the-grid exploration and fun. To achieve this complex balancing act meant making Limerence far more than just a voluminous custom support vessel. It required a robust vessel built to exacting superyacht standards that was able to fulfil the role of entertaining and accommodating guests in multiple social spaces. To that end, she has two guest cabins and a larger master suite that can sleep up to six guests altogether. Then there’s the comfortable, stylish saloon, a stunning aft deck lounging and dining area and a supercool sundeck with a bar and loungers - not to mention the huge beach club just above the water. But the ace up the sleeve of this design, which comes from the pen of Azure Design & Naval Architecture, is the unique raised aft deck, which doubles as a fully certified helicopter deck for an Airbus H145 and as a huge entertainment space. Not only can it bunker and secure the chopper, but with the aircraft away, it serves for large gatherings, extended lounging and even as a dancefloor. What is more, the flush lighting means that the deck can be converted for use as a volleyball or basketball court with a net wall around the outside. Alia Yachts 53 meter ALY531 full complement of toys makes for an eyewatering list. Besides the Airbus helicopter and Triton 660/7 submersible, there is a 13m custom guest launch also built by Alia, an 8.2m custom Cockwells beach lander and a 6.1m Ski Nautique waterskiing boat. Sailing boats are not neglected, either, with two RS Teras and two RS Cat 14s stored aboard. There is still plenty of room for smaller toys, too, including two 230hp Sea-Doo WakePros, two Yamaha Superjets and two Seabobs. There are foiling flight boards and jet boards, stand-up paddle boards, pedal boards, tandem kayaks and a host of boards and skis for towing. All that in addition to a dive shop, an enormous inflatable beach park and a survivor obstacle course.

Fairline Yacht Ends Aground in Bitez Aktur, Turkey

A twenty meter Fairline yacht ended aground and beached in Bitez Aktur, Bodrum district, Turkey on the early morning hours of Friday third October.  The yacht ended aground while at anchor and drifted to shore, as all those onboard including the skipper were asleep.  The Fairline yacht was reported to have sustained little to no damages from the grounding, also because it ended bow first in soft sand. Following checks the yacht was then later in the morning towed back to deep water.  No injuries were reported from the incident.
The yacht in this accident is a Fairline Squadron 68 Mk.3 as designed by Alberto Mancini and produced since 2022.  The Squadron 68 Mk.3 was a replacement to  the Fairline Squadron 68 Mk.2.

Project: Custom Line Saetta 128

Custom Line present the project for the Saetta 128 model, which is set to arrive in 2026.  The Custom Line Saetta 128 will also present a couple news.  First is that from now on the planning line is to be called Saetta, and second is that design comes from SY Design of Veronica Yien and Matteo Sassone, who take over from Francesco Paszkowki who has designed the planning Custom Line from 2017, debuting with the 120, and followed it with the two other 106 and 140 models.  Teased in summer first as the Custom Line 125 and a replacement to the 120, following the Cannes Yachting Festival Ferretti Group renamed the model to the Saetta 128.  Saetta which translates to lightning bolt in English is also from this fall to be used for the current three 32 to 42 meters planning hull models.  With the Saetta 128, SY Design follows the Paszkowski lines but adds a broken shear which integrates into the glazing of the forward wide body and into the straight lines of the upper deck, with the large profile window mimicking the yacht's side profile.  The Custom Line Saetta 128 will have an interior designed by Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel who present a five suites layout; owners room forward of the main deck, and four guest suites on the lower deck.  Crew accommodation is for eight in four cabins.  Power will come from twin MTU 2638hp for top speeds up to 22 knots, a fast cruise of nineteen, and a one thousand nautical miles range at eleven knots.

Carver Yacht Ends Aground in Sarasota, Florida

The Winner Takes All

The 2025 Cannes Yachting Festival has shown for the most time that it has become the boat show to beat.  Boat and yacht builders like Cannes, and so do the visitors.  The Cannes Yachting Festival also gives a taste of the French Riviera Cote d'Azur Summer, added with the bonus of the latest boat and yacht novelties.

European boat and yacht builders present the news in Cannes.  The French go full on to Cannes but both major Italian and British boat builders have in the last decade, presented the World debuts and announce future news in Cannes, also because most of the international press is at Cannes.  If modern boating is your offer, Cannes is the boat show to be.  But Cannes 2025 also had a World debut from China-American powered catamaran brand Aquila who debuted the new 46 model, showing the international global vacation of the show, beyond Europe.

The Cannes expansion had a lot of help from the Italian yacht builders to grow and become the boat show of all the shows.  A turn around and help to put Cannes at the top, was the fracture between UCINA which organizes Genoa and the major Italian boat builders in 2013.  This fracture continued nearly all the way for the twenty ten decade, and these Italian yacht builders put Cannes as their most important boat show of the year, and also missed-out on Genoa for a few years.  What used to be a warm up for Genoa became the prime boat show for novelties, including the latest new boats, but also the press conferences from all the major names, with other medium and smaller builders following suit.

Will Genoa ever manage to take its past leadership back from Cannes.  It is possible, but difficult in today's globalized nautical World, even though the Genoa boat show is bigger and in some things better.  The current Genoa show strongest points are entry level boats and ribs of under ten meters in length.  Its main problem is traveling logistics and unlike the all tourist Cannes, Genoa has a split economy with its commercial, and industry being important as much if not more to tourism.  Genoa major logistical problem also comes from its small airport, much less connected to Europe and the World then the Nice airport, which serves Cannes and is the third busiest in France and has over fourteen million of visitors a year. For comparison Genoa Airport has over one million passengers a year, and sits in 21st place as airport in Italy.

It's also to note that in recent years Cannes, Genoa, and Monaco have sort of formed an unofficial triumvirate boat show in a break of four days between them in a fortnight, and a pocket distance of less to one hundred nautical miles.  With all three shows bringing something different to the other, from the super yacht specialized Monaco Yacht show, to the all around flavour of Genoa, and its still Summer feel nearly all water show of Cannes.
